My group of friends in my math/science class work well as an example.

The Hero: My friend Nate. He’s very.. charismatic, loud, and often disruptive during class . But we love him for it. He’s the redhead of our Blonde Brunette Redhead group (Nate = redhead, Blake, Edgar , and myself = Brunette, Blonde = Paul.)

The Lancer: Me, but I also kind of overlap with the Smart Guy. I’m a Deadpan Snarker, Genki Girl, Black Sheep of the group, being the only girl (and the only Asian) in our entire Five Man Band. I’m also the Cloud Cuckoo Lander, which has earned me the nickname “Space Cadet”.

The Smart Guy: Edgar. He’s a shy, chubby guy who just goes along with what everyone else is doing. He’s the youngest-acting of the group, and spends more time actually doing his classwork than goofing off.

The Big Guy: The oldest of the group, Blake. He is quiet and can give you a Death Stare like no other. Blake has gotten into many fights over the year we’ve all known each other, but he is soft at heart. He’s best friends with the Chick Magnet.

The Chick: Paul. Also called Pauly, Polly Pocket, Jim, and an assortment of other nicknames. He’s the kind-hearted, softer one in our group. Because of that, he’s also the Chick Magnet; and a bit of a Chivalrous Pervert.

This troper's alternative rock band works as a fairly literal Five Man Band:

The Hero: Me, the lead singer, chief songwriter, and keyboardist. I tend to direct practices, schedule shows, and propose which songs we should record.

The Lancer: One of the two guitarists; he writes many of the songs with me. We often disagree and have fairly different styles, but they sound really nice with one another.

The Smart Guy: The drummer, oddly enough. Also a bit of a Deadpan Snarker, he looks and acts like a stereotypical nerd and has MANY creative ideas.

The Big Guy: The other guitarist. Though extremely skilled, he is very, very quiet and does little else but play guitar and act stoic.

The Chick: The bassist. Because I write most of the basslines, he doesn't do much to contribute to the band. However, when the whole band is in an argument, he's usually the one to propose what the compromise should be.

My clique of friends/D&D players fall into this quite nicely.

The Hero: My friend Gerrit, he does lots of the typical leader stuff, and we agreed that he leads us in case of something going bad. He's a bit of a WoobieHero though.

The Lancer: Our friend Ben: Whereas Gerrit is a minor nerd, Ben is a major one, of the Otaku brand. Generally ends up as a second in command to Gerrit.

The Smart Guy: Me. I'm the only one of us with a laptop, and I'm pretty brainy besides.

The Big Guy: Dillon, who's very, very tall.

The Chick: Alex, Dillon's girlfriend, fits the Chick role perfectly. She's definitely TheHeart of the group.

The Sixth Ranger: Raven, Gerrit's girlfriend, doesn't fit anything else.

This troper has had used to know four people who were in an academic group with him, and they fit a FiveManBand -

I did this with dogs too. After the Big Guy and the Smart Guy were KilledOffForReal we bought the Lancer, fitting Three Amigos. Finally, The Chick was killed off too, leaving Foil. However, there was a SixthRanger, so now we're a FreudianTrio, with TheSixthRanger as McCoy (and the TokenGirl), TheLancer as The Spock (disobedient and can convince you to do anything) and me as The Kirk. &D* In my Japanese class, there is a FiveManBand...I am TheSmartGuy and possibly the ButtMonkey....

This troper considers himself the smart guy of the group though everyone else says I'm the Hero for two reasons: 1)I'm essentially the unofficial leader and 2) we already have another guy who is as smart, if not more so than I am. My group also strays very close to a five token band with my lancer/heterosexual life partner being black, our resident big guy being an Asian girl who is, ironically, the smallest of us(she's 4' and weighs 110 lbs and can flip me. For reference I'm 6' and weigh 170 lbs), and our smart guy is an Indian boy who transferred here when we were in fourth grade. We even have a recent sixth ranger addition who's a mexican boy. My GF(the chick) and I are the only white people in the group.

Wings}} This troper is TheChick out of my group of friends. I alomost got offended when I was told this by our TheHero, but I soon found out that you don't always have to be a chick to fill the role.

This troper's French class last year. I was TheSmartGuy. However, now we have three {{Sixth Ranger}}s, one of whom is TheScrappy. Sigh.

Out of all of this troper's friends he is probably The Lancer(also the most competent), The Hero even stated that my boring cynicism is the perfect counter to his ADHD.

This troper is either TheBigGuy or TheSmartGuy. It's difficult to tell, since we're all pretty bright...

This troper is, of course, convinced he is the Hero, since one of my best friends would make a textbook Lancer. My girlfriend makes a great Chick, so the other weirdo (well, weirder than the rest of us) could be relegated to Smart Guy.

This troper and four friends were all in a car on the way to a restaurant. Someone suggested that it felt like we were on a quest, prompting a very long drawn out discussion of just who fills what role in the five man band. We ran into problems choosing which of the two girls (one of which was me) was the chick, considering neither of us wanted the title, it became a competition to see which of us was less girly. We arrived at the restaurant before we could resolve that issue. The waitress was the Sixth Ranger.

How much did you sort out?

This troper has four good friends that he basically considers siblings. They've certainly all but been adopted into the family. If I'm TheHero of the equation, then each of my pseudo-siblings fit quite nicely into the other four character archetypes. For any of my other groups of friends, however, I'm TheSmartGuy.

My {{Nakama}} has more than 5 people in it, but there is a basic core group of three guys and two girls. I guess my boyfriend is TheHero, his best friend is TheLancer, the other guy is TheBigGuy (not so much in literal size but he's very strong), and it's debatable whether I'm TheChick or The Smart Girl. I'm thinking maybe the latter, which puts the other girl in TheChick role. (Interesting subversion, though, in that TheChick likes TheHero but TheHero is going out with The Smart Girl.)

This Troper has a number of friendship circles that can be considered Five Man Bands. Among his college grouping of Asperger's sufferers, he's TheHero, the lone girl is TheChick, and while of his four other friends, he can delineate TheBigGuy and TheSmartGuy (smart being very relative, we're a bright bunch), it's hard determining which is TheLancer and which is the SixthRanger.

Of his high school drama club, he was TheSmartGuy among the seniors (and spent the previous year as a {{Main/Sidekick}} to one of his upperclassmen friends)

In his oldest group of friends, a group stretching back to middle school who are actually attempting to make a video game, which sadly has no chick, he's TheLancer. TheHero is the man who's actually designing the game we're making, my best friend since grade school is TheSmartGuy, and another friend is TheBigGuy

Our particular group of 'tards (TARADOS FTW!) is pretty big, but has two core groups as 1st gen, ie. the ones that came before we arrived and 2nd gen, ie. us freshmen.

First gen has TheHero and pseudogod of us, TheLancer & Chick condences in a long-&-very-straight-haired, overly enthusiatic dude, TheBigGuy who's actually pretty short but can pull off some pretty impressive stuff, TheSmartGuy in the one that has progressed our uni classes the quickest (ie. hasn't failed) and a bunch of Sixth Rangers as drop-ins and whatnot.

Meanwhile, freshmen includes TheHero, me as TheSmartGuy, two Lancers (one for me and another the TheHero. xD) and a bunch of Sixth Rangers. No Chick though. >.>

In my high school marching band's trombone section, This Troper was TheChick and TheScrappy for my freshman and sophomore years. During my junior year, I was one of two rival Lancers. My senior year, I was back to being TheChick and something of a SixthRanger. But there were 14 (and later 17) people in the section, so we had quite a few Scrappies over the years. I think I was the only one to be RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap.

This troper's school's 'karate club'. TheHero and TheLancer switch roles, though, depending on who has the Idiot Ball. There's also the Smart Girl and the ActionGirl-slash-TheBigGuy. I'm somewhere between TheScrappy, TheChick, and the TeamPet.

Although the group is getting larger, the church youth group for which this troper is the advisor was a FiveManBand over the course of the last year. The kids even all have titles. The oldest member ("the General") is a combination of TheHero and TheSmartGuy. The slightly younger boy ("Pieman") is a combination of TheLancer and TheSmartGuy. The older of the two girls ("the Admiral") is a combination of TheChick and TheLancer. The youngest member ("the Giver of Free Hugs") is a combination of TheChick and TeamPet, with some comical TheSmartGuy thrown in for good measure. They form a tight little {{Nakama}} and have a SixthRanger in the form of a kid who can only join the group when visiting his non-custodial parent. Troper, of course, is the TeamMom, with some elements of TheChick.

Let's see, in school after going through most of my time as a Loner, I joined made friends with a group. In my eyes I started as TheChick, got upgraded too TheSmartGuy and eventually ended up TheLancer or TheHero as I got louder and more confident. In the class after that I suppose I was TheSmartGuy in a band without a clear Hero. After that I was TheChick and now I'm back to being TheSmartGuy.

This Troper is the only girl in her Five Man Band so she became The Chick but through Character Developement(or Derailment)she becomes The Lancer.

My group of friends is usually larger than five, but they're fairly easy to place into groups. Oddly, we really don't have a Hero}} Hero, as the most confident out of all of us is definitely TheLancer; he's apt to go against any group plan just to play devil's advocate. We all have a bit of TheSmartGuy in us, although there is one of us who more fully fits the trope than the others. TheBigGuy of the group is actually a girl, completely unassuming until she picks you up and tosses you. Her boyfriend is one of our everchanging troop of {{SixthRanger}}s, who is also TheJerkass, unfortunately. As for myself, I'm usually a mixture of TheChick and TheSmartGuy, and I'm ''definitely'' TheButtmonkey. It's actually a pretty cool position for someone who almost can't be offended.

This troper is TheLancer/half of TheSmartGuy, her slightly more academic friend is the other half, her BFF is TheChick, her athletic friend is TheBigGuy, and pretty much everyone else is a SixthRanger. We had a Hero, but she became TheScrappy and TheWesley and left. Oh, and this troper's brother is the TagalongKid and TeamPet.

This troper has sorted all the characters in her RP group into FiveManBand and FiveBadBand. It's possible she got something wrong, because apparently, the BigBad and TheChick are in love, TheBrute and the EvilGenius have a love/hate dynamic, TheHero nearly killed the Chick, TheBigGuy looks like a redhead Maleficent, and TheDragon is the OnlySaneMan.

This troper is the plucky comic relief to his friends Hero, chick, big guy and action girl

One group of friends that {{Wild-card}} frequently hang out around in school consist of six people. Since one of them doesn't actually go to our school he is the SixthRanger, we have a Hero who invites us to his place most often, a geninue SmartGuy, just a weird one, and ThisTroper and his brother might both qualify as a Lancer and a Sidekick. Sadly though, TheSmurfettePrinciple hasn't gotten TheChick to join our group.

This troper's FiveManBand is also his RockBand - Pistol Glory Kill, totally look us up. In canon - yes, we have a fictional canon - he's the Smart Guy despite being the drummer; the lead singer is our Hero and the lead guitarist the Lancer, with the bassist being the Chick and the other guitarist the Big Guy.

This troper, despite being female, is almost always the Big Guy, due to generally being a lot more powerful than her friends. The only reason she isn't the Hero or the Action Girl is because she's too lazy to take the initiative and would rather just be told what to throw and how far to throw it.

This Troper's group of close friends has six members (including herself). When I first found out about this trope, I tried to apply it to us. Some roles were easy (We have a clear SixthRanger, one of us is TheHero by default and I like to think of myself as the SmartGuy), but some proved difficult. Our hero has no clear lancer, and no one wants to be TheChick even though we are all female. BigGuy is possible to find but not so clear cut.

In his trope-savvy group of friends, they didn't really have a Hero, which was funny. They had a clear Lancer (a guy with generally good intentions but tends to lean on hating humanity), a Smart Guy, a Big Guy, and a Chick (a guy, oddly enough). Due to this Troper's attitude and view of the world, he was voted in as a Hero, though he thinks himself more of a Smart Guy. Guess this is a pretty good example of a DesignatedHero. Of course, the way I view the world (and my dreams) have always invovled me being heroic, so it's not like it doesn't fit.

This Troper's family. My mom is TheHero, my dad is TheLancer (though occasionally it flips), I'm TheSmartGuy (I remember everything and analyze situations), my brother's TheBigGuy (he's good with his hands), and my sister is TheChick (she's affectionate and worries about everyone all the time and always thinks about other people first). Our dog is the TeamPet.

Me and some kids on my bus fit this trope. Sometimes. There's one Hero, two Lancers, a Chick, and a Sixth Ranger/Deadpan Snarker. I'm the Smart Guy, but one of the Lancers views me as the Scrappy.

Oh.... Wow. I just realized my grade 10 class was five people. TheHero (odd, but charismatic guy), TheLancer (a bit of a goof, gets this title by virtue of being the 'second'), TheSmartGuy (probably myself - also the odd-person-out in many things), TheBigGuy (and how!), and TheChick (the only female, who also fits the stereotype).

This troper is part of two very different five-man bands and is the smart guy in both of them; the first is composed by his school friends (The Hero being his best friend, a very egocentric guy; the Lancer is the Hero's best female friend and usually the more mature person in the group; the Big Guy is also a musician and the Chick is the group's more morally minded member), the second one is composed by his "geek" friends (The Hero is the less socially awkward one and the most mature; the Lancer is the funny laid back yuri fanboy, the Big Guy is his brother and the oldest one of the group and the Chick is a yaoi fangirl meganekko).

This troper was part of a FiveManBand during Middle School. I was TheLancer, my friend David was more of the adventurous TheHero, TheSmartGuy was Nate, TheBigGuy was Chuck who loved playing baseball and Adam was a male version of TheChick.

This Troper's family is a FiveManBand: my mom is TheHero, my dad is TheLancer, I'm TheSmartGuy, my younger brother's TheBigGuy (though he's only like 5'8'' and one of the skinniest people I've ever known; he has the GentleGiant's temparment), and my younger sister's TheChick (she's by far the most affectionate: she doles out hugs as often as most people say "hello"). Our dog is the TeamPet.

This troper is contemplating his own four man band. He's the Lancer / TheSmartguy, and his three friends go as follows. Our Chick is the Hero, and the lone girl, while being an action girl. We have a big guy who really is just slightly stronger than us. And we have the blond boy whose a year younger than us that is the comic relief kid and our Heroine's...err, sort of her TeamPet.

ThisTroper, a moderator at a forum, is still trying to assign all of her fellow moderating team members into FiveManBand slots. So far, the admin is TheHero (obviously), she's TheLancer, the second moderator is TheSmartGuy, and... She's still hasn't decided which person is TheBigGuy or TheChick, the third global moderator or one of the regional moderators. She has the other regional moderator is TheSixthRanger though.

This troper's {{Nakama}} fits this surprisingly well, despite being all female. She's {{The Hero}} on account of being the oldest, with her snarky and bossy sister as {{The Lancer}}. {{The Smart Guy}} is played by the brainy best friend who is borderline {{otaku}} at best. {{The Big Guy}} and {{The Chick}} are our pet Lesbians}} lesbians, one of which is quiet but extremely masculine and the other one being feminine and friendly, also the peacemaker.

This troper is TheLancer. His best friend is TheHero. This troper's cousin is TheBigGuy despite being the shortest in the group, has the most muscle. His other friend is TheSmartGuy and the last friend is TheSixthRanger.

This troper serves as The Hero in his Five Man Band. His His best friend is the The Smart Guy, his brother is The Lancer, his first cousin serves as the Chick while her brother serves as the Big Guy. On occasion his third cousin tags along as The Sixth Ranger.

Da_Nuke pretty much grew up with Five Man Bands:

My high school friends are the "Sacred Five". My best friend was TheLancer, my other best friend was TheBigGuy (he loves basketball and tennis), while TheSmartGuy (a psychologist) and the TeamPet (currently a film director apprentice) parted ways after high school. I was TheHero ^^

The electronics major has a Kyon-grade DeadpanSnarker as TheHero, a calmer DeadpanSnarker as TheLancer, a BoisterousBruiser basketball jock as TheBigGuy, a big, friendly nerd as TheSmartGuy, and the token engineerette as TheChick (being her the ''only'' girl in a major full of men). I, being friends with them and from the telecommunications major, am the TagalongKid.

The company where I got my first job worked like an extended FiveManBand. The boss was TheHero, the engineering manager was TheLancer (being this a network solutions company), the hauling dude was TheBigGuy, the engineering department were {{The Smart Guy}}s, the manager and the salesgirls were {{The Chick}}s, and shortly before quitting we got two {{Sixth Ranger}}s at sales. I was one of the Smart Guys.

This troper is TheSmartGuy, her girlfriend is TheChick, her friend from high school and now law major is TheHero, another old friend turned forensic science major is TheLancer, and for reasons no one can remember, we picked up a music major from Massachusetts (the rest of us are from south of the Mason-Dixon line) who's been our SixthRanger.

This Troper and co. make a great FiveManBand. My cynical, conservative friend is the hero, I am the Lancer (except I am much less level-headed than him), My humungo friend is The Big Guy, My big friend is the smart guy, and the littlest nerd is the chick. Oddly enough, I'm also in a band with five people.

If one can accept this troper as the Chick (a bit of a reach but he's generally the emotional one), his set of friends fall pretty nicely into this: The Heroine, The Lancer (Heroine's best friend, pessimist), The Big Guy (plays Football and is the little brother of the Heroine.), The Smart Guy (Actually bigger then the big guy, but certainly weaker and less in shape. Total computer nerd.), and The Chick (just a friend who's highly affectionate. Because the Gods know I am not socially adept).

This troper's table in her beloved Latin class was so much of a FiveManBand that they even gave each other ''nicknames''. She was TheSmartGuy. The guy who lead all the class discussions (because "that's just what he did") was TheHero. TheLancer was the serious, studious opposite of TheHero. TheBigGuy was 6'3". And TheChick was actually a guy.

Come to think of it, her lunch group also qualifies: she's once again TheSmartGuy, and the only other girl in the group is ''definitely'' TheChick. TheHero is one of the weirdest and most charismatic people she's ever met, and TheLancer is TheHero's opposite (unassuming, clownish underachiever) -- and also a complete ChivalrousPervert (we've dubbed him "captain of the innuendo squad"). Our BigGuy is a CloudCuckooLander. We all are, to some extent, but he's the only one who's brought a ''ukulele'' to lunch. It's an interesting group.

This Troper's Scout Troop feel into this in the early years. The Senior Partol Leader was TheHero, being the oldest, and highest ranking. Our Assistant Senior Patrol Leader was undoubtedly our Lancer, but also a subversion, as he was the first of us to get our Eagles and now sits comfortably at 70 merit badges (at age 15, no less). Our Smart Guy was our DeadpanSnarker, and I was the Big Guy, a role I shared with our sixth ranger. And then there was our "Chick" who is still the most mellow of us, and prevented infighting. Sadly, this is all in the past, and I am the only one who remains, training the new scouts.

This Troper has four friends who, together, form a five man band. One of them is a hero/smart guy crossover, another is a lancer/big guy crossover, another one who is a guy but basically plays the role of the chick, another who is a smart guy but with the personality of the team pet, and I am the eccentric smart guy.

I'm currently running a D campaign (3.5), in which there are five main players, plus a Sixth Ranger (plays an elf ranger) who just showed up last session. We have a human cleric of Heironeous (The Hero), an elf rogue (The Lancer), a (nerfed due to being overpowered in 3.5) tiefling wizard (The Smart Guy, and a second Lancer as well), a dwarf fighter played by the only female in the group (The Big Guy), and a half-elf druid who doesn't really seem to fit any category (possibly another Hero?).

In this troper's group of friends, she is a combination lancer/smart guy, being smart and not quite as athletic as their hero, an artsy, charismatic girl. Then there's our 'big guy by default' who is, again, a girl- sarcastic to a fault, stoic and somewhat strong, maybe not physically. And our chick would be our peppy, outgoing, emotional gal- completely unathletic yet blessed with the MostCommonSuperpower and unfairly gorgeous hair.

This Troper, with her six friends, makes up one of these. Said troper is {{The Smart Guy}} (or girl, in this case), with two guys switching/sharing the role of {{The Big Guy}}, a slightly serious and focused girl being {{The Hero}}, a completely crazy girl fulfilling the role of {{The Lancer}}, an all-round nice girl fullfilling the role of {{The Chick}}, and another guy being {{The Sixth Ranger}}, but determined to think that he's {{The Scrappy}}.

None of my three closest friends from high school contest my role as the de facto hero and overall smart one. While there isn't a true leadership in the traditional sense of the word, I'm always the one to call the others out on their increasingly stupid antics. I once told my closest friend (TheLancer) that "I'm Batman" (from a particular Celebrity Jeopardy skit), to which he quickly replied "well, I'm ''the'' Batman." One of them, an artist, fills the role of TheSmartGuy in my stead and another is big enough to round out the package.

Sometimes our group transforms into a FiveBadBand if the situation calls for it.

This troper has been in a few Five Man Bands...in his original group of friends, he was at first TheLancer before becoming TheSmartGuy. After a falling out with that group, I became TheSixthRanger for another group (though I sometimes fill in for TheSmartGuy or TheLancer). With my group of online friends, I'm TheLancer.

This troper has just been recruited to play TheChick / Manager / Interpreter to an actual 5-man rock band. TheHero and TheSixthRanger / TokenWhite are obvious; the others are expected to show tropey tendencies as things develop.

This troper is probably TheSmartGuy of her FiveManBand.

This troper's friends fit exactly into the slot of a FiveManBand, with this troper as TheHero. The only problem is, none of this troper's friends ''are friends with each other'', and two of them (TheSmartGuy and TheChick) actively hate each other.

This troper's Dungeons and Dragons group can definitely be considered a Five Man Band. My roommate (who is a KavorkaMan and a WeirdnessMagnet) is the Hero. This troper (who, as a law student is generally the {{Unfunny}} and OnlySaneMan) is the Lancer. We have a Smart Guy who is a slightly awkward mathematical genius with a penchant for memorizing entire books. We TWO Big Guys - both of whom are girls! One is a rugby playing middle school teacher, and the other a big goofy pharmacist. The pharmacist's boyfriend is a cross between the Chick and a team pet. We even have a Sixth Ranger who acts, essentially, as the lancer's lancer.

The really interesting part is that these are the roles we play in real life. When we game, the roles are different: our Smart Guy is the DM, our Hero always plays Big Guy, the Lancer (me) plays the Hero, and our Chick plays the lancer. Our sixth ranger usually plays the Smart Guy, the pharmacist Big Gal becomes the Sixth Ranger or the Chick. Our rugby-playing Big Gal usually still plays a Big Guy, but she's new to roleplaying - we expect she'll cross-class soon.

Since we don't really have five people in our FiveManBand, this troper has to take on the roles of TheCaptain and TheSmartGuy.

This Troper is actually in quite a few Five Man Bands and in each one, he plays a different role. In his main one, he's defintely the Lancer. In his secondary one he's the Smart Guy, and in his third one, he's the Hero.

This Troper's has his best friend as the hero, His other friend as a Neutral Evil big guy, His brother as a sort of the Chick and himself as a sort of combination of The Chick and The Smart Guy (pretty damn smart but tend to get emotional and is also a teensy bit feminine)

This troper alternates between the Smart Guy (arguably the most intelligent, often comes up with the cunning plan) and the Big Guy (so ridiculously tall that the rest of the group look like halflings in comparison) depending on what's happening with the rest of the group. His best friend is the Hero (the one who decides which cunning plan to follow) and normally the focus is on his ongoing attempt to get with the Chick who has so far managed to turn him down a grand total of five times. The Lancer is locked in a love triangle with both the Hero and the Chick. Interestingly this troper is currently seeing the Lancer of another Five Man Band, and the pair of them find all this great viewing entertainment.

I'm probabbly the hero or the Lancer (depending on perspective) my friend is the Lancer/Hero (Perspective), another of my friends is the Big Guy (more in size than strength), I double as smart guy, my small friend is the scrappy and my explode-y friend is the Sixth Ranger. I geyss you could count either the girl I like or a girl who we talk to a lot as the Chick, but that's up for debate.

I considers himself to be the ChaoticNeutral Lancer[=/=]Smart Guy to a NeutralEvil VillainProtagonist. Our Nakama includes a diminutive ChineseGirl with a fondness for sharp objects (TheBigGuy), and a guy who doesn't talk a lot but is also probably the least insane member of our group (TheChick). There was also this one kid who no one liked (The SixthRanger[=/=]TheScrappy), but he stoped following us around after TheHero publicly humilated him in front of a live audience.

This troper and a group of his friends (who, for the purpose of this confidentiality, we'll call Frank, Bob and Alex). Unbeknownst to each other, we all ended up applying to the same university, and worked out that we could easily form a crime-fighting FiveManBand (Though without TheHero)

Alex - TheBigGuy. He's a black belt in 2 different kinds of martial arts.

Which, unfortunately, leaves this male troper as TheChick.

ThisTroper has been a part of not one but two Five Man Bands. He shifted from TheBigGuy to TheSmartGuy, and the only other member of both went from TheHero to TheLancer.

Undergrad band

TheHero: Aspiring English teacher, black belt, and practicing Pagan. Something of a local celebrity for his distinctive coat, hat, and walking stick.

TheLancer: Science major with some anger issues and reculsive tendencies. Counterpoint to TheHero in that he was the most technology oriented of the group in his free time.

TheBigGuy: Multimedia major who took martial arts with TheHero. Less experienced in martial arts but probably physically stronger. Something of a GeniusBruiser if only for the higher education setting.

TheSmartGuy: English major, with a focus in linguistics. Took great pleasure in listing and classifying all sorts of information. Considered TheChick at first, but got progressively icy and discovered she preferred girls during a lengthy relationship with a man.

TheChick: Majored in elementary english education. Far more gentle nature than the others.

Post graduate band

TheHero: Mechanic in the Marines. Future parents-in-law treated him like the Second Coming. Always something hulking in heavy armor like a Knight or a Warblade in DungeonsAndDragons.

TheLancer: Previously TheHero. Somewhat bitter about becoming TheUnfavorite while he was away. Always the Wizard in DungeonsAndDragons.

TheBigGuy: Employee of the martials school TheHero attended before going off to college. Nice guy, but notorious for speaking or acting without thinking. Dated TheChick for a year. Always a front-liner in DungeonsAndDragons.

The Other Big Guy: Railroad worker and something of a JonasQuinn, as he began dating TheChick within a month after she broke up with the previous Big Guy. Always a martial class in DungeonsAndDragons.

TheSmartGuy: TheBigGuy of the undergrad group, but physically outclassed now. One of two members to even consider something higher than a bachelors. Typically the "research guy" in most matters. Without TheBigGuy, finds increasingly finds himself as the OnlySaneMan in the room. Tries to fill party holes in DungeonsAndDragons while typically serving as comic relief.

TheChick: Works in retail. Has never made it a secret she's wanted a baby for some time. Always plays elves who serve as TheStraightMan in DungeonsAndDragons.

This troper and his friends fit into a FiveManBand oddly well, and these traits are most noticable when we're all on X-Box Live. (To keep it confidential, this troper will simply identify them with the first letter of their screennames)

TheHero: H, who will always lead the charge and is the guy everyone turns to for making group decisions and hosting the games.

TheLancer: G, who also doubles as TheSmartGuy, plays support for TheHero of the group and will often have the most information available.

TheBigGuy: N, shamelessly. He will always clamor for the best and most powerful weapons, will make a beeline straight for the enemy and start hitting them as hard as possible, and who could care less about strategy.

TheChick: Y, a very laid-back and level-headed guy who has a knack for putting things into perspective.

We'll often be joined by a wide variety of Sixth Rangers drawn from our pool of associates, but they tend not to fit into any of the roles particularly well.

I sort of fill a combination between The Lancer and The (male) Chick. The group really lacks a Smart Guy since we all fill that role. In another group, I am The Big Guy/Hero.

In This Troper's case, we're all Literature majors so we're (supossedly) all Smart guys yet we (the closest 5) manage to form a FiveManBand anyway.

TheHero: Somewhat laid-back girl who, when not taking leadership herself, usually has it thrust into her hands.

TheLancer: Gets along best with TheHero but they usually have differing points, and tends to be second-in-command; female, too

TheSmartGuy: Also the comic-relief, oddly. She's got the highest grades of us and is the first we call to review our papers.

SixthRanger: Most laid-back of all but still smart; mostly TheQuietOne and, oddly enough, the youngest, she often overlaps with TheSmartGuy.

TheChick: This Troper; gets along with everyone and usually exhibits traits of TeamMom and TheHeart. Only male save for...

TheBigGuy: not exactly a friend, mostly a TagalongKid with shades of CovertPervert, would be the SixthRanger if he hadn't left uni...

This troper is TheChick doing lead vocals within the context of her band. I was formerly TheSixthRanger doing back-up vocals until the one of the lead singers decided to quit the band unexpectedly.

This troper belong to an aarray of different five man bands through the years, here is the line of the most important of them:

Primary School: back at primary school, at first was me and my brother, usually when we were alone fo face agains our BigSister, we could have been at first ThoseTwoEvilGuys, but we have been more of CainAndAbel, a cousin of ours joined us, making as PowerTrio of ThreeAmigos, eventually another freind i used to got to school together become our smart guy and another one wich was older than us became the Big Guy (wich he managed to later one become the hero, my brother the lancer), eventually i and my brother grew apart and unfortunaly i'm no longer part of the group.

Early Hich School: this troper unfortunaly doesn't remenber quiet well but if i'm not wrong my cousin and i and my smart guy freind returned joining with some other menbers wich one was ax crazy (sometimes i see him as the ace) with a vast troop of sixth range

This Troper was The Chick at first because she was the only girl but soon became the Lancer in The Five Man Band. With her best guy friend as The Hero but in her opinion, if she was The Hero, he would be The Chick.

This Troper and his buddies fit into this ''creepily accurately'', given that most of us play the appropriate instrument/s (though we sadly do not have a band... well, not one with all of us in it):

TheHero is my best friend, a blonde haired and blue eyed HotBlooded ChivalrousPervert (plays guitar and sings);

TheLancer is me, a black haired (and eyed) DeadpanSnarker DepravedBisexual (I play guitar and bass);

TheBigGuy is a six feet, seven inches body-building dude (plays drums);

TheSmartGuy (doubling as TagalongKid) is the aforementioned body-builders irritatingly LiteralMinded best friend ("doesn't like" music);

TheChick is my girlfriend, both TheHeart and the OnlySaneMan (plays keyboard and sings);

and TheSixthRanger is an (often absent) HotBlooded IdiotHero buddy, who thinks he is TheAce. (Plays bass.)

This troper's group of friend. We have:

The Hero is my best friend, a hyperactive keet and somewhat of a cloudcuckoolander (only a bit of one)

The Lancer is my other best friend who is also hyper but more down to earth

The Smart Guy is me, the perky goth artist

The Big Guy is my little sister who is tall for her age and a genki girl

The Chick is my little brother the tag a long kid with a hair trigger temper

Team Pet is my dog who likes to follow us everywhere

This troper's major friend circle consists of one of these (plus one two).

TheHero is my bro, a nerdy, level-headed plotter (with the occasional backbone problem) who is generally the ringleader of our bunch (or, often, the GM). NeutralGood.

TheLancer is yours truly, a snarky go-getter, prone to accidents and occasionally can't phrase something well. The RedOni to TheHero's BlueOni. LawfulNeutral.

TheSmartGuy is our SophisticatedAsHell counter-culture aspiring musician, often dead-set on powergaming, exploits, and all that--mostly because he can. ChaoticGood.

TheBigGuy is our resident jock/nerd crossbreed, an avid WorldOfWarcraft & LeagueOfLegends player and a textbook example of BrilliantButLazy. ChaoticGood.

TheChick is TheHero's girlfriend, a FieryRedhead with an obsession for Pokemon and similar franchises. Foolishly believes Ariel to be the best princess when it's clearly Jasmine. LawfulGood.

The Cloudcuckoolander goes to our last member, a younger bloke whose mind always seems to be elsewhere. Generally unpredictable, with a history of computer trouble. ChaoticNeutral.

The Sixth Ranger (or in this case, seventh) is a ''colossal'' LargeHam who hasn't become a formal part of the group--''yet'', thus making him a case of IncomingHam. Boisterous and has a startlingly good memory. LawfulGood.

In this troper's men's choir last year, the bass section seemed to fit the trope quite nicely.

TheHero: John, while not the leader of the group, he is essentially TheEveryman and the most likable person in the section.

The Lancer: Chris, he was quite the DeadpanSnarker and was the sections second-in-command.

TheBigGuy: PJ, physically the strongest and has the lowest voice.

TheSmartGuy: Rob, the leader, and for good reason. He was the most knowledgeable about music and probably the smartest one in the group.

TheChick: *sigh* me. I was the weakest physically and had the least amount of music skills. I was (and still am) the voice of reason and the OnlySaneMan.

TheSixthRanger: Matt, despite not being in the section, he was friends with every member and became a bass that year.

In this troper's (ZeoR95) RS class we discovered that our table managed to fit this trope very well (using first initials for confidentiality)

TheHero: A, only by process of elimination, as everybody else fitted another trope

TheLancer: M, for being of a good alignment, but just not bothered to be good and for being the coolest out of us all

TheSmartGuy: Me, H for being the smartest, most nerdy of us all

TheBigGuy: C, for being the most violent, HeroicSociopath

TheHeart: S, for being the nicest of us

TheScrappy and TheBumblebee: J, mostly the Scrappy, but we call him The Bumblebee to make him better, not that he likes it, though.

This Troper has played most of the roles at some point in his life.

TheHero: Of my game development team.

TheLancer: Provides a HotBlooded foil to the more level-headed leader of my first voice acting group, and a more snarky one to my LoveableSexManiac buddy who Admins my most frequented forum. I also provide this role in my family (Mum being TheHero and TheChick who keeps us together, Dad being TheSmartGuy who always has the answers to everything, my little bro being TheBigGuy on account of being the most physically active of us, and me providing the hot-blooded enthusiasm and simple approach to problem-solving).

TheBigGuy: To my main circles of friends at university, due to being physically taller than most and a ''lot'' less reserved than the various Smart Girls and Lancers. GentleGiant is very much in effect. As is LargeHam.

TheSmartGuy [=/=] TheLoad: During highschool. Didn't do much except read books and avoid people.

TheHeart: To my second voice acting team. Also doubles up as a TeamDad, on account of being one of the older members.

This editor's family would count. Dad is TheHero, Mom and I are both TheLancer, I'm TheBigGuy (Dad even calls me that!), my sister is TheSmartGuy, Mom is TheChick, our dog Samson is the TeamPet, and our SixthRanger is my sister's boyfriend, at least for now.

This troper's group of friends fits pretty well into the five man band categories:

TheHero (female): RedOni law student / waitress who basically brought the group together.

TheLancer (male): Laid-back BlueOni foil to the heroine. The rest of the group constantly ship them, but they both insist WeAreNotAnItem. Yeah right.

TheBigGuy (male): GentleGiant, despite being a well-built mechanic and amateur boxer.

TheSmartGuy (me, male): DeadpanSnarker, barman and aspiring writer. VitriolicBestBuds with the big guy, even though he could easily crush me if he wasn't such an EmotionalBruiser.

TheChick (female): The ultimate TeamMom, frequently calls the rest of us "kids", even though she's technically one of the youngest (only by about a month, though).

SixthRanger (female): Quiet, shy newcomer who was recently revealed to be TheWoobie, and now gets endless affection from the rest of the group, and has become the big guy's {{protectorate}} and the smart guy's platonic life partner.

I attend a club for teenage girls with autism/Aspergers, and we form a Five Girl Band:

TheHero: Thyme(yes, that's actually her name), who started the club.

TheLancer: Kiya, Thyme's best friend.

TheBigGuy / BoisterousBruiser: Emily, who's as smart as she is strong, and could easily kick your ass. Definitely the most outgoing of us.

TheSmartGuy: That would be me, though it's hard to say, as we're all pretty smart. I'm just the most bookish.

TheChick: Sophie, the quietest and the kindest of the group.

In a game of {{Pathfinder}} I am playing, we almost have a five man band:

An halfelin bard able to boost us by singing and also not too bad with a rapier and proficient with a short bow (TheHero)

A thief really interested in money, good at backstabb, and from the most powerful country around (TheLancer).

A druidess not really good at battle due to low combat stats and abyssimal die rolls, but able to heal us (TheChick).

Me, a female wizard with no damaging spells but with a few StandardStatusEffect, from a nomadic tribe where heterochromia is believed to be the sign that the child is destined for the mystic arts (A SureWhyNot moment from my DM) (The smart girl).

While we don't have any big guy, we have my cat and our druidess' puma.

This troper's Five Man Band works like this:

Robert is our local leader, if only because he's the binding force in our group. A lead guitarist, he's rather deep on and off the stuff. He's also a (partially unwilling) chick magnet.

Melissa is one of Robert's sidekick and sarcastic girl as well as the one who balances our stoner hero.

Mariah is our local empath. She's a shy girl, but is really fun and pleasant to be around. She has (in typical fashion) liked our hero forever but he's had a rather long string of girlfriends.

Jade is (aside from me) the tallest of the group. She's very good with words, but seems to alternate between cold-hearted "Snark mode" and her caring, happy-go-lucky personality. However, she does more damage with her... um... endowments rather than her fists.

John is great with arguments. He's a member of Model UN and is a very smart dude, but he tends to screw the system and get away with it either because of his latent smarts or ridiculous lucky streak.

This Troper ended up joining in towards the end of 8th grade year. I also give a lot of advice, but I am generally the only one with foresight and common sense or smart guy territory. They've been friends for years, so I was rather out of the loop and got stuck with that position.

Paul is definitely the lowest member on the totem pole. He was quiet when he came to our school in freshman year, but when we became sophomores he turned into the Jerk Jock of our circle.

My brother once set up a game on Roleplay Gateway (said game folded due to writer's block, but anyway), where the accepted cast of characters could've formed a dynamic along these lines. This is how he saw it:

Emily Elliot ({{GMPC}}) - Adventurous, cheerful-yet-impulsive young girl skilled at both sword-wielding and minor Rune magic. TheHero clearly enough.

Rorikt Selestat ({{GMPC}}) - DeadpanSnarker (borderline IneffectualLoner) with a MysteriousPast, somewhat of an AloofBigBrother to Emily, and definitely seems to know a lot more about what's going on than he should. Easily TheLancer in terms of personality, but in terms of magical power he's more reminiscent of TheMedic or even TheChick. Plus he gets kidnapped alot.

Anaya Northwood (created by ''Ashleigh Jaye'') - Quiet wanderer with traits of the EmotionlessGirl, fights with a Big Freakin' Shuriken and the only purely physical-based party member. TheBigGuy ability-wise if not in any other way.

Telos de'Tarni (created by ''Dziva'') - Sassy street thief, the closest thing the game had to a FemmeFatale, and grew up in the most futuristic realm in the story. Also able to use 'black magic' and possessing numerous connections throughout the underworld. Best fit for TheSmartGuy (There was also MadScientist in-training Xander Knight, whose player never gave his username and left before the game could begin, somewhat disqualifying him).

Hazen Torek (created by ''On Your Mark'') - An (adopted) aristocrat with a moral code, easily the most emotionally sensitive and insistently noble out of the five. Despite not being a NonActionGuy, could very well be TheChick (His original draft was more along the lines of TheHero, but the GM, a touch sensitive himself as he was, wanted to avoid SpotlightStealingSquad amongst the players and insisted a rewrite).

This tropettes five member College Republicans club can easily fit this trope:

The Hero: Kim, who was the club president before she graduated.

The Lancer: Brooke, her best friend.

The Smart Guy: Gaitlin, Kim's fiance and a chemistry major at the time.

The Big Guy/Smart Guy: Cameron, who was also the 'Tech Head'.

The Fifth Ranger: Me, because I joined the club relatively late in the school year.

One of my Bleach fanfics expands on the existing FiveManBand by a complicated margin, half of hich double as Lancers for Ichigo or Rukia: Tatsuki Arisawa, Homura Shizuku, Senna Kisaroku, Ikumi Unagiya, Matsuri Kudo, Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, and Ashido Kano. Alternatively, the extra members form their own FiveManBand:

BigGood: Ikumi Unagiya, ringleader of her own Fullbringer crew and CoolBigSis for the surviving Modsouls.

TheHero: Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck.

TheLancer: Senna Kisaroku, with a backstory similar to that of Ami Shiba from the Vizard Trilogy by An Origami Fish.

TheSmartGuy: Ashido Kano, who holds an astute knowledge of Hueco Mundo and the Arrancar, being a practitioner of survivalist guerrilla tactics.

TheBigGuy: Tatsuki Arisawa, a Fullbringer with an ability that merges martial arts together with brute force.

TheChick: Homura Shizuku.

SixthRanger: Matsuri Kudo.

Aishido ends up getting his own FiveManBand during his time in the limelight:

BigGood: Kukaku Shiba, the leader of the Tonozetsu, a vigilante movement comprised of former Shinigami officers and counterparts, later forming into a coordinated resistance army for the Rukongai, now developed from a slum district into an organized village.

TheAragorn: Sarin Kurosawa, formerly the lieutenant of the 9th Division, currently the Tonozetsu supreme commander.

TheHero: Ashido Kano, returning to the Soul Society from exile as a WildCard; a dangerous vigilante, a future revolutionary, a helpful sleeper ally, or a prodigious candidate for the captaincy?

TheLancer: Sojiro Kusaka, an ex-lieutenant for the 10th Division, with his own gripes over the Soul Society's machinations.

TheSmartGuy: Ginjiro Shirogane, Renji's predecessor and the main supplier for the Tonozetsu; Matsuri Kudo, hard-working and responsible, with an interest in reading and writing; Maki Ichinose, a master at using his enemies' tactics against them with his Nijigasumi Zanpakuto.

TheBigGuy: Susumu Hirasago, the ex-lieutenant of the 7th Division and the leader of most Rukongai gangs, who prefers brute force over tactics; Fujimaru Kudo, a lazy slacker that happens to have obtained bankai.

TheChick: Miyabi Seitetsu, a former 3rd Seat noted for her promiscuity and prostitution rings.

This tropers 5 man band has been a 5 man band for almost 4 years

TheHero: my cousin Leslie mainly because shes older than us. shes very outgoing and doesnt really care about peoples opinions about her.

TheLancer: my friend Dante hes kind of a jerk a pervert and manipulative but is otherwise pretty awesome

TheBigGuy: my sister Kina she doesnt really talk so much unless you get on her bad side shes also kind of like leslie. also she once knocked out 2 guys by tripping them and punching them repeadetly

TheSmartGuy: me. they admit im way more smarter and creative then them... they are so nice to me

TheChick: my friend nina who usually claims that she only hangs out with us because she needed more friends

Back when I was about nine and had fantasies going on adventures with favorite characters, I imagined me, Angela, Jorge, Achmed, and Maria as one of these. We were even called the Five Musketeers. Here's where we fit.

The Hero: Me! (Duh.)

The Lancer: Angela Delvecchio/Jorge Garcia. (She was my favorite female backyard kid, but she and Jorge could switch roles depending on the story.)

The Smart Guy: Jorge Garcia/Angela Delvecchio. He knew a lot about finance-enough to impress my mom, who's a finance professor-which is pretty obvious from a boy whose dad is an accountant. The glasses didn't hurt either. However, he and Angela could switch roles depending on the episode.

The Big Guy: Achmed Khan. A rockin', LargeHam, wild, genki guy. Pretty manly, especially compared with the adorable Angela, nerdy Jorge, and girly Maria. There's one episode where he introduced Jorge to RockAndRoll.

The Chick: Maria Luna. Loves pink and ponies. The girly girl to Angela's {{Tomboy}}.

There are also the PunkRock kids at school. They are ''not'' a FiveBadBand (well, Melanie I'm not so sure about...), because that refers to teams of villians, not dark people, and DarkIsNotEvil. Let's see....

TheHero: Beverly, the DeadpanSnarker, rose haired, {{Bifauxnen}} (sometimes, her ElegantGothicLolita wadrobe makes her look feminine sometimes.) Likes the AvengedSevenfold and LinkinPark.

TheLancer: Melanie, an asian punk IceQueen. She's an interesting case of TheLibby-she puts down other people (like me) but while most libbies look like "pop chicks" or supermodels, it's unusual to find a libby who looks like, oh, let's say, Kelly Osbourne. But my school is "where you can be yourself" so it's not at all unusual to find people interested in the punk subculture. Her birthday is today BTW. She is also the TokenEvilTeammate, everyone else in the group is nice.

TheSmartGuy: Grace, an orange-haired girl who likes Edgar Allen Poe and TheBeatles. She's also a {{Bifauxnen}} and speaks in a classy accent.

TheBigGuy: Julian. A BadassLonghair GentleGiant overlapped with DarkIsNotEvil who loves TheBeatles.

TheChick: Dan. A NiceGuy who's pretty skinny, and complemented on my cut-up shirt I'm wearing right now. He has long-ish hair that's sometimes dyed. He likes TheBeatles and {{Nirvana}}.

My four friends and I may be arranged like this:

The Hero (or more accurately, the Anti-Hero): Me,obviously; always with some thing to do (but usually a crazy idea that others don't see plausible)

The Lancer: My friend Vero, who is more down to earth than me.

The Chick: My friend Wendy, writing fairy tales. She is also a Girly Girl.

The Smart Guy: My friend Ana (I qualify as well, but...)

The Big Guy: My friend Silvia; even though she is in fact the shortest, she is tough and rude. She is also a Tomboy.

This site has me seeing the FiveManBand everywhere I go. But the easiest one to pinpoint would be the IRC roleplay adventure where I now spend most of my free time:

TheHero: Deoxys. ChaoticGood or NeutralGood, depending on the episode. Used to be pretty active with his NaughtyTentacles despite his appearance, but that's changed more recently due to Jessica. Has a legendary (in-universe) weapon, the Blade of the Southern Cross. Also has a city-sized TransformingMecha, the Neo-Colossus, as his flagship. Bit of a ScienceHero, something of a galactic conqueror (the good kind, not the EvilOverlord type) but left his Empire to find a proper Empress. Also counts as the BigGood following his promotion to Commander-General of Westrider.

TheLancer: Mewtwo. LawfulGood, originally bordering on LawfulNeutral until saving two androids, one shut down due to a suicide mechanism following his dismemberment and the other alive and begging for help, from brainwashing at the hands of Manfred, the Golurk ruler of a pocket dimension that only had a brothel in it, and reviving and repairing the shut down one. Easily ticked off, but ultimately still heroic. ScienceHero.

TheSmartGuy: Dr. Johnson. LawfulGood. Deoxys' best friend and second-in-command for a long time. An Alakazam, with somewhere around the typical intelligence for the species. ScienceHero, even more than Deoxys or Mewtwo. Saw right through pretty much every trick the enemy had right from the beginning, and came up with the "backup plan" that ended up becoming the first adventure of the story.

TheBigGuy: Genesect. ChaoticGood with signs of ChaoticStupid. DumbMuscle, bordering on TooDumbToLive sometimes. But he's got a good heart, which makes up for his utter lack of a brain. Once played as TheDragon to an AntiVillain after a fight with his "uncle" Deoxys, and proved himself to be a HeroAntagonist in that role, even managing to get the "bad guy's" daughter to fall in love with him.

TheChick: Jessica Finch. ChaoticGood. Deoxys' girlfriend, ArtificialHuman, her dad was the predecessor to Genesect's former AntiVillain boss and was the same type of guy due to being a clone of the same MultiversalConqueror, she was developed in the image of the MultiversalConqueror's long-dead daughtera really long story going back about a million years. ActionGirl.

I myself have a FiveManBand: (we're all Jerks with hearts of gold, mind you)

TheHero: My buddy Chris, who is also a bit of a {{Casanova}}. If you know him, he's a pretty decent dude, but he can be an ass. If we were an actual group of protagonists, he'd definitely be an {{AntiHero}}. Recently, however, he's changed, now that he's found someone he actually cares about.

TheLancer: I myself, since I am very much his polar opposite and do not think similarly to him in most situations. I'm a {{Gentle Giant}} and a bit of a pacifist.

TheSmartGuy: My friend Thy (pronouced "tee") who is a bit of a CovertPervert.

TheBigGuy: My friend Jose. He's big, he's strong, he's got decent intelligence, and he's quite boisterous.

TheChick: My friend tony, since he complains a LOT. But he also can become the co-{{smart guy}} if the situation is correct.

This troper's main circle of friends fit this quite well. For the sake of anonymity, each is referred to as a color that fits their personality. (Note: The colors are based on an existing set of characters. Cookie for the person who guesses it.)

My twin brother Green is TheHero, a master of the ImprovisedWeapon, and my Red Oni.

My friend Orange is TheLancer, a pacifistic anarchist who occasionally lapses into AxCrazy territory. Very religious and political.

I'm Blue, TheSmartGuy and often a CloudCuckoolander.

My friend Red Is TheBigGuy, who proudly refers to himself as a meat shield and randomly goes on berserker charges at a slight provocation.

Violet is Green's girlfriend, and TheChick. She keeps the rest of us from killing each other, and is scared of Orange sometimes.

Green here. Violet fits the role further as The Chick due to the fact that barely a week ago Red attacked both Blue and I after taking away his headphones (see above). She Is the only reason he didn't end up with more than a fractured knuckle.

Others who have variable roles:

White: At first glance seems to be TheAce, but occasionally acts like a selfish prick, believes himself to be unbeatable in a fight

Black: Acts like a Jerkass toward everyone except Red.

Yellow: The only atheist in our group, tends to strongly antagonize Orange.

Indigo: Generally serves as a mediator when Blue isn't available, often random.

This troper's family of 5 is a FiveManBand.

My dad is TheHero, the one who basically leads the family.

My younger brother is TheLancer. he argues with dad a lot, but they can work well together.

My other younger brother is TheBigGuy. He is the most agressive, and also the strongest.

I myself am TheSmartGuy. I'm the best in school and the most intellectually-oriented.

My mom is TheChick, who tries to keep the family from fighting. Also an ActionGirl.

We also have a TeamPet.

This troper's dogs are like this:

Benji is TheHero, being the one to start bark-fests and growl to stop ones he doesn't approve of.

Norman is TheLancer, often not growling and is a lot lazier than Benji.

Ivan is TheBigGuy, since he is the largest (and oldest) of the group, as well as being very strong and not a huge fan of playing. He also growls and barks the second-most (only beaten by Benji).

Oscar is TheSmartGuy, quickly doing the most logical things when he isn't playing. May also be a bit of a big guy, since he is ''extremely'' strong at holding a rope in his mouth (but he's the youngest and smallest of the gang).

Chester is TheChick, simply because he is extremely prissy. My mother nicknamed him "the prissy dog".

This troper and his group of nakama fit this perfectly, traveling places together and even totaling five people. However only The Big Guy and The Chick are male.

The Hero is hot-blooded and very active, coming up with ideas and making the rest of us run to keep up.

The Lancer in contrast is calm and collected as well as tall, dark and bishoujo.

The Smart Girl is the smallest member of the group and also the one who tends to figure out the logistics when we all travel.

This troper is The Big Guy, being the largest and strongest member of the group and tends to not show much emotion.

The Chick tags along with the rest of us and spends a lot of time talking about love and peace

This Troper and her friends at school fill these roles fairly well:

This Troper's oldest friend (10 years, and I'm 15), who I will call by her initial L, is TheHero. She has the closest any of us have to a DarkAndTroubledPast, and she's good in a crisis - people will usually listen to her, and with good reason. She's also smart (most of us are, as we go to a school for gifted-ish high school kids), sometimes painfully honest, and has a quirky but hilarious sense of humor. However, she tends to underestimate herself, which is why she needs encouragement from...

TheLancer, who I shall call A. Much crazier than the somewhat down-to-earth L (you do not want to see A when she gets hyper), but also a caring TeamMom kind of figure. Gets along with just about everyone.

TheBigGuy is F, who is ironically the smallest of the main band, physically speaking. Don't let that fool you. She is living proof that Mother Russia (along with spending her middle school years at a charter school that is, if she is to be believed, hell on earth) Makes You Strong. Tough, smart, and just a little AxCrazy, God help you if you mess with her or someone she likes. She does, however, have a soft side and plenty of HiddenDepths, but we're still trying to figure out exactly what they are.

I, E, am TheSmartGuy (F could fill this role too, but I could never be TheBigGuy, so this fits better). Fairly self-explanatory: I'm pretty academically oriented, know a lot of random facts, and have a good memory. I also tend not to get emotionally involved in most situations, preferring to analyze them instead. This means that, rather than actively disliking people, I tend to just sit smug and secure that I know what makes them tick. I laugh way too much and have been described as "always flustered," which fits the "nerdy and awkward" part of this trope.

TheChick is N (it could also be me, but this was the only way that all the roles are filled, and we fit equally well). She's usually the one rolling her eyes at the antics of the rest of us. She also organizes us and calls us out when we're being stupid, brings us out of bad moods, and is usually the one to settle arguments (mostly between or at least involving L or F, as A and E don't fight much).

We also have a SixthRanger, H, who is a year younger than the rest of us and so goes to a different school. She is a close friend of A (who used to go to her school), L, and E (both from ballet class), but she has met F and N several times. She will be joining us at our school next year. She is an IllGirl, TheLinus, and a Dojikko, as well as one of the best examples of a CloudCuckooLander I've ever seen in RealLife.

Our TagalongKid is another student, C, who acts like a CheerfulChild and looks like an overgrown preschooler. She's quite smart, so we view her as something of a BadassAdorable.

This Troper's friends in her Summer P.E. class have evolved into one. She assigned everyone roles, and so far, everybody likes their roles, especially TheChick.

TheHero is fairly calm and collected. She paces herself when she runs, unlike everyone else. Major ShipperOnDeck for This Troper and TheLancer.

TheLancer is PlatonicLifePartners with the Hero. He's a DeadpanSnarker with an emphasis on the deadpan. Has recently became This Troper's running buddy, since they run at about the same speed and pace. It only leads to more ShipTease in-between the two, even though This Troper jokes about her position in the FiveManBand and how she'll get paired up last.

TheBigGuy isn't really close to everyone, but he was given a spot because he was the only one who fit the qualifications. Bigger than everyone else, and stronger. He's a NightmareFuelStationAttendant.

This Troper is TheSmartGuy. She's not the least athletic of the group, but she is the one who remembers the details of what they're supposed to do that day. She's also the one who finishes the required packets first and gives everyone else the right answers. TheChick likes to joke around and call This Troper her 'love rival' for the Hero's affection. It creeps out both This Troper and the Hero.

TheChick is the least athletic of the group. She's also an {{Otaku}} and the CloudCuckooLander of the group. She was the one who was the most excited about getting the roles, and tried to assign everyone power ranger colors.

TheSixthRanger is this Troper's HeterosexualLifePartner. She's TheQuietOne, and doesn't really fit in with the rest of the group.
