This Tropette to the MAX. She doesn't treat herself as one, but she has a morbid sense of humor and an enormously genki personality, and does kinda look the part, with a slight tendency of dressing in black, being skinny and pale, and she has dark hair and eyes.

This Troper was dark and gothic once. Then she reached the magical age of 14 and decided that drama and writing sad love poetry suck balls and decided to love life and every other living form (except mosquitos). She kept her band tshirts, mesh sleeves, red-black-brown hair and inhuman amounts of jewelry because it kinda became the part of her image (and she looks pretty nice in black). Due to that and to her... specific face features she is still branded as 'a depressed emo chick' at the first sight.

A friend of this troper was unintentionally mistaken for Gothic once (apparently, dark hair + trenchcoat = Goth). Even when he explained that the dark hair was his natural color, and he was wearing the trench because it had been raining earlier that day, some folks didn't seem to believe him. His girlfriend, on the other hand, is essentially a shorter clone of Abby Sciuto.

This Troper is the exact definition of a Perky Goth. She loves punk rock music and its fashions and shopping at Hot Topic. However, this troper also happens to be a {{Genki Girl}}, {{Tomboy}}, and {{Otaku Surrogate}} in a punk rock chick's body.

This troper dresses in all kind of Tripp brand clothing when she can afford it, and always get wierd looks for it. But I never really even act my age, and am only really mopey if I'm lonely or bored as hell. I'm also as respectable as I can be to my elders, though in the case of my teachers, it backfires. And I mean ''really'' backfires.

This troper (yes, doubleplusungood inclusive collective pronouns!) used to know someone who fit this trope to a tee, and was always sweet despite the somewhat saddening amount of verbal abuse heaped on her for her at times bizarre behavior.

With psycho hair that isn't the same color or cut for more than a month at a time, is completely unrecognizable when he dresses up as a normal person for halloween. This troper doesn't know any goths who can't be considered 'perky'. Between 'poly-goth', 'hippy-goth' (A story for another page), 'Designer-goth' and most bizarrely 'not-really-goth-but-go-to-club-heavy-metal-er'.

This Troper, along with most of my friends. In fact, almost every goth I've met. I think the other two are mainly unfair sterotypes re-inforced by angsty teens who are only going through it as a phase. There's more to goth than Wangst.

In fact, being goth doesn't require angst at all! This troper went through the goth phase, but she imitated her goth friends and classmates, so she became a Perky Goth. She did eventually realise it wasn't her style, but she's still perky. As are her friends. Still goth, still perky.

This Tropette is often thought of as Goth, despite spending much of my time spinning in circles and singing.

This troper has actually known a MopeyGoth or two, albeit always with wicked senses of humour, but far more of the Perky variety. One in particular stands out--a man of Hagrid-esque stature with a sharp black goatee, given to wearing black-and-red Hawaiian shirts to the local goth club when he wasn't dressed as Jack the Ripper, and possessed of unfailing good humour. He mentally dubbed him "Satan Claus."

I have been pegged as being emo/goth due to wearing large amounts of black and pink and a generally kuu-mode KuuDere demeanor. They couldn't be more wrong.

One of this troper's friends seems to be one of these. She is obsessed with vampires, writes poetry, loves Johnny Depp...but she's one of the bounciest people I know. She even hugged me on one occasion.

I knew one in high school. She wore goth clothes and goth make-up, but was more perky than most girls. She even became really friendly with me (for only like the last 20 minutes of the day, but still).

This troper wears a long coat, military boots, an ankh, has long hair, and listens to Sisters of Mercy, Wumpscut, and Siouxsie and the Banshees primarily. He's also pretty consistently described as one of the generally happiest people around, with a truly silly sense of humor.

This Troper is an interesting case, as he tends to dress more goth the better his mood. He mostly wore a bright green shirt under a hunting jacket (probably to tick people off or wallow in the misery of the bright, eye-hurting colors, he doesn't remember) during his deepest, {{Hikikomori}}-status inducing depression, moves to charcoal or black shirts under a black oilcloth duster, dyed his hair black once (and dark purple twice) For The Lulz (and several times for CosPlay, but that's not important right now), and in fact tends to be happier when wearing the coat. Seems to have hit the BishounenLine of perkigoth...-iness, lately, though, having switched to black-and-white Chuck Taylors (stupid retailers, stupid tiny clothing budget) and debating the pros and cons of a White [=Mage/Cleric=]-style outfit when less spookygoth-mopey than before, but always goes back to the coat, black jeans, and dark charcoal/black shirt when in a good mood.

This toper is the same way. She wears all black outfits, usually dresses and boots when she's especially cheerful. And then when she's depressed, she likes to go out in public in jeans, a white T-shirt, her seriously mopey face, and a silly hat. Obviously seeing how people react never fails to brighten her mood!

This troper has a friend like this and she always seems to be happy and smiling. She comes to school wearing the most outragous clothes, and you can tell who she is by what she's wearing, and if she happens to be wearing the same thing as everybody else, you can still tell her apart due to her sunny disposition in life. She also gets panic attacks when she sees blood and she dresses up as on of my school's cheerleaders for Halloween. She says that cheerleaders can be so scary sometimes.

This Troper is a CloudCuckooLander StrangeGirl who likes to dress as a dark faerie, listens to Inkubus Sukkubus and wears far too much eyeliner. Well, when she isn't being traumatized and clinically depressed, that is.

I alternate between this and GloomyGoth, depending on my mood.

This Troper has spent many times on gothic forums and have found it that at least half of the real goths are of this kind (while angsty ones are mostly just angsty teens to overcome it).

This troper supports this theory, with an addendum. Those who tend to congregate online will be 50% perky goths (looking to socialize, discuss and vent some... rather non-perky ideas from time to time) 25% mopey goths (with tendencies towards self-pity, though not always in a derogatory way) and 25% romantic goths (who may be, variously, perky or mopey -- but are a breed apart for other reasons). On a bad day, most romantics will act like angsty suburban teenagers. Feet will be stomped. Bitch fits will be thrown. Perky goths just... snap. Loudly.

In fact, goths in most communities, both online ''and'' offline, can be categorized like this, with similar percentages.

Real life being what it is, this troper has found that the three personality types are more tendencies than absolutes and one will sometimes blend into the other and then back to whatever the default preference is.

The various Xgoth lables are very broad, and application varies not only with the person, but the age and mood as well. The excessively angsty teens are typically written off as "spookykids" by the more self-effacingly humourous mopeygoths.

This Tropette fits most if not all Goth stereotypes (Black clothes? Check. Metal? Check. Owns books of E.A Poe? Check. And TimBurton films? Check...the list goes on.), but I generally am perky and funny person due to my MadHatter mindscape.

This tropette doesn't always goth up to the nines, preferring jeans, t-shirts, and combat boots due to lack of give-a-damn, and is rather depressed and {{Hikikomori}}-ish, but she's decided that even if she can't manage 'perky' a lot of the time, she can certainly pull off 'pleasant', and makes a point of being polite. Her inner perky comes through in the presence of small animals and/or babies or around her fellow nerds, however, and once she gets ''started'' talking it's hard to shut her up.

If his parents would let him, This Troper's brother would have body piercings, purple hair, and probably wear make up. He has long hair that covers his face, wears chains and a lot of black, and his favourite store is Hot Topic. He isn't really perky, but he ''is'' one of the nicest people you'll meet, and he rarely {{Angst}}s about anything.

My girlfriend fits this to a T. Every single piece of clothing she owns is black in some way or another, her hair runs all the way down to her elbows, she always wears skirts, a black leather studded coller, and these black leather elbow-length fingerless gloves, and has this trenchcoat with 9000 belts and chains. But she's the sweetest person I've ever met.

This troper puts the 'fun' in 'funeral'. Always dressed in an abundance of black or purple, with hair to match, loves hanging out in cemetaries and reading about gruesome murders, yet puts the life in her local ecocology club and spends hours singing along to songs from Glee.

Most Goths whom this troper has known (mainly in high school) have been this. I swear that I've never met a sad, mopey Goth.

There is a heavilly goth girl at my school. She always seems like she's one bad experience away from going on a homicidal rampage. I'm a metal-head and I walk to school, blasting loud death metal to anyone within a short radius at the expense of my own hearing. One day I passed her and she turned on me. I thought she was going to have an angry outburst or something. Instead, she beamed the sweetest smile and greeted me in the most unusually cheery manner. Now goths confuse me even more...

One of this troper's closest friends in high school was a PerkyGoth chick who had a cropped haircut and a taste for black and bright. The closest he ever got was as a former Punk Rocker, himself.

People always say he looks like Jack Skellington when he was alive, this troper is tall, thin, wears lots of black, has auburn hair (that he desperately wants to dye black), and is extremely pallid. This troper loves industrial music, Goth rock, doom metal, dark caberet, and electronic music. A few people have been really surprised to find out this troper is gay, a theatre kid, and (sort of) a vegan.

This she-Troper was quite the PerkyGoth in high school, nowadays said she-Troper is an Amiable Dark Geek Chic due to college, work and drastic yet necessary living conditions.

This tropette gets marked as a goth or emo by some because of the fact that she flat-out refuses to wear anything except black and grey, and that she's into a small amount of metal music (the pale skin and bitchy front probably don't help either). However, her friends and family know that she's actually a friendly (if snarky and condescending sometimes) and strange girl with a love for the lighter side of music and a fan of such amazingly dark shows as WinxClub, PhineasAndFerb, and WesternAnimation/AdventureTime.

My school counsellor, of all people, is this. I have some shades too, but I'm probably to geeky to be considered completely goth.

This troper does not dress like a goth [Mainly because he cannot afford any of the cool stuff... Stupid German blood and innate practicality], but he went through the traditional mental stages... EG, he discovered that the world is a horrible place, and got gloomy and depressed through the better part of puberty. Near the end, however, he came to a startling realization- Yes, the world is horrible, but it's just as easy to laugh at the misfortune of others as it is to brood over your own [And quite a bit more enjoyable]. Of course, since he doesn't bother with people very much nobody really notices. Until he bursts out laughing at someone's sob story, but he tries not to do that so much.

This troper went through the normal stages of gothines and came out the other side as a morbidly cheerful person with a strange obsession with death and disease. He doesn't act goth in the least, but is often referred to as such based purely on dress, humor, and musical taste.

This troper went through a short gothic phase in Middle School, lasting about 4 weeks time. I was a stereotypical type of goth; black nails, dark clothing, eyeliner rimmed around my eyes as much as I could possibly allow. Everyone kept calling me emo though and wouldn't shut up about it. Also, I had an obsession with dark anime and manga at the time, and started thinking about ''very'' ''very'' morbid things. And so began, at age 13, and obsession with horror movies that still lingers, just not as much.

This troper is a subtle version of this. While having a morbid humor and everything I own could be described as goth, I have an optimistic view on life and I'm friendly to all living things.

Everyone seems to think I'm this, but more of the Perky Emo variety. I happen to fit the image, too. I'm Asian, but I'm pretty pale for it, and whenever I DON'T wear black and skinny jeans with spikes and wristbands it's a major "OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS ENDING" thing, simply because IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. Also, my musical taste spans from post-hardcore to normal emo to goth rock to pop punk. Additionally, my humor is of the VERY morbid variety, especially in classes. My Lit teacher calls me "O Dark One" on a regular basis and my Government teacher knows me as "the goth kid in the corner." But I'm truly happy and funny, friendly if you reach out to me, and very energetic. Some may say I'm a male GenkiGirl around my friends.

Because all groups of friends needs one, I am the resident Perky Goth for my social group. I dress in black most of the time and the only reason why my clothes aren't in the Victorian or Lolita-style is because of money costs. Most people when meeting me would assume I'm an angsty teenager or emo. My friends know better, as I act like an energizer bunny.

One of my friends (and one of my absolute favorite people in the world <3) is something like a Perky Goth Girl. This same girl is also one of the entries under troper tales for MPDG, so you'll know why it sounds familiar. Of course, she wears dark colors, as per the Perky Goth definition. Black, purple, blue, sheer red. She does wear some lighter colors, but usually they're paired with dark colors. She's smart, beautiful, and is internet savvy. I'm not positive, but I'm sure she's a prime example of "a girl on the Internet," so I bet she can take a lot of the shit that the Internet can throw at her. She's also an activist and a science/CS major, rebellious, and a general free-thinker. And throughout it all, through dealing with serious issues in real life like freedom of speech and world peace, issues that would sober many up (such as myself) or even depress them, she still remains very upbeat. I don't know how she does that, but I love her because of that. All told though, she probably fits a Perky Punk image more and {{Dark is not Evil}}. This tropette fits this trope to a T. I look Misa in her Goth phase half of the time, with black skirts, long-sleeved shirts, and occasionally I wear my mom's BadassLongcoat. I always wear combat boots except for when in PE, because those are the only shoes that I own that fit on me. (Yes, my PE sneakers don't fit me.) I love TheBirthdayMassacre, EmilieAutumn, LacunaCoil, and {{Evanescence}}. I love horror animes like HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi, finding them simply more awesome than scary. My sense of humor is VERY dark and morbid. Half of my stories are more like Stephen King novels, only not so overly drawn out and confusing, and most, if not all, of the poems I write are basically Edgar Allen Poe on crack compacted into short little things. However, I'm a cheerful, nice, poltie, and soft-spoken girl that loves to help others.

I dress the part... but I sure as hell don't act it half of the time. I try to be more cheerful, I really do, but... people just annoy me to no end. Including myself! Eh. Whatever.
