TomboyAndGirlyGirl

Earrings would be no less common among tomboys... of course tomboys would be limited to wearing hoops, where as the girly girl goes for something fancier.
#129718
Played with, for this troper. I was the tomboy of my friends as a child, but grew up to have a lot of ButchLesbian friends who make me seem girlier in comparison.

This Troper and her worst enemy are a prime example of this trope. The enemy has long, blond hair, loves pink, shops at places like Forever 21, wears fashinable clothes, hangs out with her Libby}} Libby posse, reads any {{Chick Lit}} book with a pink cover, and listens to pop and country music such as {{Taylor Swift}}, {{Lady Gaga}} and {{Kesha}}. This Troper, on the other hand, has short, wavy, dark brown hair that goes to her shoulders, absolutely hates pink (but loves black), shops at places like Hot Topic, only wears T-shirts, jeans, shorts that aren't too shot, and Converse shoes, hangs out with her nerdy friends from her school's anime and video game clubs, reads manga, absolutely hates pop music (unless it's J-Pop), and listens to punk rock music such as Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, and {{Fall Out Boy}}.

Are you an angry twelve-year-old, or what?!?! You must live in a frickin' fanfic.
#129721
Dude, calm down. Sure, she sounds a bit poser-ish, but chances are she's just a normal chick. Real life Libbies exist, you know.
#129722
I was not making this up. The people in that Troper Tale are not posers.
#129723
This troper counts as the "Tomboy" for most of her life. (Large sweater, small, short hair after entering high school, and only around guys most of the time) A few of the girls she knows are the girly girl type.
#129724
This troper and her best friend would qualify, with the troper as the tomboy.
#129725
This troper and one of my co-workers. We are the very definition of TB & GG. I am a hyper-feminine, pink-loving, Audrey Hepburn-worshipping fashionista. Aside from the occasional 8+ hour shift at work, I am rarely seen without heels (and never, ''ever'' without a fresh coat of lip gloss). She on the other hand, is a pants-wearing, chain-smoking, one-of-the-boys self-proclaimed creator of the "glitter goth" movement. In my car, you're likely to hear anything from Queen to Sinatra to Bach; in hers, ICP and the like.
#129726
This troper tends to find herself on the "girly-girl" side of any friendship she's in. It's a bit odd. I suppose that being a lolita with an extreme love for shoes does that to you, even if you are extremely enthusiastic about zombies and anime.
#129727
This troper and her sister, with me as the tomboy and she being a very extreme case of a girly girl. I like sports, dressing in t-shirts and jeans or shorts, I have shoulder length hair that typically I pull back into a ponytail, sneakers, comedy movies, only wearing makeup to cover up blemishes, and hanging out with guys. Meanwhile she only wears dresses, refuses to do any sports because they're too "masculine" and gets all her exercise from shopping, has Rapunzel hair, wears lots of makeup (pink, of course), likes romantic movies, only wears high heels or flats, and loves to have girl talk with other girls that are just as girly as she.
#129728
This troper is this to basically any girl she's near, especially her fashion designer older cousin. She's less of a "tomboy" and more of a "boy in a girls body, but not a {{Transsexual}}" though. It doesn't show in her appearance or behavior though, due to her personality.
#129729
One of this troper's childhood friends name-dropped this trope exactly when describing the two of us once. She's cut off her hair to nearly nothing while mine remains long and wavy. Over the years we've known each other, she has given me all her "girly" clothes and replaced them with baggy pants and t-shirts. Her room is painted blue and mine, pink. She'd rather have a night out drinking and fighting with the boys as opposed to my preferred activity of watching Golden-Era movies or treating oneself to a spa day. She's the Katherine to my Audrey and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

...Astrid? Is this you?
#129731
Twice, in my case. This troper and a family friend play it straight as an arrow, with this troper as the tomboy. The second case is played with: this troper is still the tomboy, her friend is the girly girl (she's into Hollister, Twilight and manly men, I'm not into fashion, I hate Twilight, I love actual proper literature like War and Peace - oh, and for the cherry on the cake, I love {{Bishounen}}), but this troper is actually the more feminine one in terms of makeup, hairstyle etc.
#129732
Me and a friend at school. I'm a gamer and anime geek, dislike shirts/dresses and heels, wear no makeup and I haven't even pierced my ears yet(and don't intend to do so either). She's more girly than me in all sorts of ways. Still, we're really great friends.

This troper has this dynamic with her cousin who's about the same age as her. Said cousin has played soccer throughout high school, and almost always wears pants and the like- said troper has only ever seen her wearing a dress a couple of times, on very special occasions. The troper, on the other hand, has no patience for team sports like soccer and wears skirts and dresses almost all the time in warm weather. She's also the girly girl to several of her college friends but the tomboy to her roommate (since said troper doesn't wear makeup that often, like her roommate does, and seems to be more physically active). The troper is currently trying to decide which roles she and her sister fit. To whit: the troper herself wears dresses and skirts more often than her sister, but her sister has a better fashion sense overall, and wears makeup every day, as opposed to only on special occasions (she also has pierced ears, unlike the troper). In terms of physical activity, the troper is into martial arts, whereas her sister is into ice skating. The troper also appears to be more into science and related fields than her sister.

Said troper has also been working on a story in which several characters fit this dynamic. In one instance, however, she deliberately twists the trope around: in a group with three girls, one obvious tomboy, one obvious girly girl, and one somewhere in the middle, the girl who appears to be the girliest of them all (who wears cute dresses as a matter of course, paints her nails, puts ribbons in her hair and wears hair decs of all kinds, and enjoys writing poetry)... is an accomplished martial artist who starts competing in MMA kickboxing at the age of ''ten''!

This troper and her best friend are Tomboy and Girly Girl respectively. This troper is the tomboy, and her best friend is the girly girl. We get along just fine thank you very much.
#129736
This Troper and her girlfriend in spades. While this troper adores pink, lolita fashion, and spends a good chunk of her day on her hair and make up, her girlfriend is perfectly happy sporting cargo camo pants and having paintball and wrestling matches with her guy friends. This Troper loves her to death anyway, and visaversa.

My little sister and I fit this, down to our favorite colors being pink and blue, respectively. I have short hair, would wear T-shirts and jeans every day if I could get away with it, and have mostly "boyish" interests, while she has long hair, is a complete fashion addict and is more into shopping, baking, and the like. In something of an inversion, she used to be the more athletic one, while I've tended to be more bookish. Although I'm still pretty geeky, I've also taken up weight training, while she appears to have abandoned sports, so this probably no longer applies.

This troper, for most of her early life, was a typical tomboy. Up until high school, I wore boyish clothing, loved Power Rangers, Star Wars and Star Trek (to name a few), played video games, had almost all guy friends, listened to tons of classic rock/metal and spent most of her play time pretend sword-fighting and wrestling the guys. It was only in high school that I adopted some girly traits, like a love for dresses, an acceptance of some pop music, an eye for fashion and an interest in purses/shoes. I still dress sort of guy-ish when I'm not dressing up, but blend it with a few more fashionable elements (tighter shirts and jewelry). Classic rock will always be my favorite, I'm still a nerd at heart and I still hold myself more like a guy in most situations. I can just pull out the girly girl when necessary.
#129739
This tomboy troper agreed to be a bridesmaid at her girly-girl-sister's wedding. Said sister doesn't really realise just how uncomfortable I am being female, and seems to think that if she can just make me see how pretty I'd look in a dress (I already know I look hot in dresses, doesn't mean I feel comfortable in them), I'll magically turn into a "normal" girl. I think both of us will end up regretting me being a bridesmaid.
#129740
This troper and her friend are very much like this. She likes shopping, dresses in girly clothing, listens to pop music and has more girl friends. I, on the other hand, wear pants and t-shirts, hates shopping (unless it's for video games),listens to classic rock and has more guy friends. Subverted a little bit, though, as my friend is a black belt in Karate and likes video games, and while I love video games, I didn't really do a whole lot of sports, up until now. It really shows when we are together, especially with me being much taller than her. Funny enough, this was reversed when we were younger.
#129741
Mixed friend/enemy version from former school days. This troper had this with most of her... eh... not really friends... more people who pitied her for being a loner, whom she was too polite to tell to get lost. (She's was loner ''by choice'', people.) It inevitably ended up a YouKnowImBlackRight scenario. "I f*cking hate girly girls. They're stupid, and girly stuff is so ugly." "*glare*" "Oh, but not you! You're an otaku, so you're an honorary tomboy!" Some honor.
#129742
This troper and her mother, who are both making attempts to defy this trope. My mom being the tomboy, with me as the girly girl. She ''tries'' to be more like a girly-girl, and I try to be more like a {{tomboy}}.
#129743
This Male Troper has a few pair of friends who fit this, one pair who lives in my neighbor hood consists of a hot fashionable blonde(figuratively) and a short feisty sporty girl. then theres another pair of friends i know of who live in Oklahoma that consist of a girl who is going into the military, and a girl who is a sucker for cute animals
#129744
This troper would be the tomboy part, since she only had guy friends until freshman year of high school. Somehow or other, she ended up becoming best friends with a girly girl. This troper isn't sure how it happened, either.
#129745
This troper and her best friend often switch between these roles. We're both a true mix of the two.
#129746
This trooper and her little sister clearly exemplify some flavour of this. Take an afternoon's rock climbing: This trooper volunteered to go up the rock first, greatly enjoyed rappelling herself down again, and had to be told to get off the rock already, the sun's going down! This trooper's sister went on the rock only when she had no other choice, complained that she was dirtying her shoes, kept stopping to pick leaves off of herself, and much preferred to sit with her nintendo playing Princess Peach and showing off how she was beating areas.
