I've got an online friend who refuses to play any ''{{Metroid}}'' game simply because SamusIsAGirl. Never mind that the fact that Samus is actually female was a plot twist in the first game and characterisation is minimal in most of the games (actually more-or-less all of them except ''Prime 3: Corruption'' and maybe ''Fusion''), apparently he just refuses to play a game that has a female PlayerCharacter since "[he's] a man and wants to play with men". I know that there are other series with female protagonists, but I'm a Metroid fanboy so that one bugs me in particular.

I can understand someone hating a series of Anime, a franchise, a genre of anime or, even if they had actually seen SOME anime from different companies, hating ALL of anime. This however isn't just insulting a show this is a whole medium of art you are insulting. Also for your small rants I counter with my own, the examples are from given shows showing examples which is what it is for, showing examples. The 'general blind praise' of course isn't done strictly to anime but EVERYTHING with a fan base. And just so you know I know of only maybe twenty total anime shows dealing with giant robots and many of them are in the same type of marketing like Gundam. As for the last parts on art style and little animation you yourself said you haven't seen any anime so my question is, how could you know? Basically there is a reason anime has a fairly large following and its not because of the stereotypes of it with only robots and tentacle hentai. Most are actual fairly well thought out and done in an excellent style, while others are done in such a way that can be compared to classics. Ahh... and one last thing, Cartoons denote Western origion and most Western animation especially the old ones and the really new ones, besides gems like Samurai Jack, have hardly any plot and mostly consist of single stand alone adventures that have no relevance to anything later while a Anime is Eastern in origion and is a plot driven story. Again I am sorry but nothing ticks me off more then someone who hasn't seen Anime complaining about Anime and if you wish to call me an Otaku, Weeaboo or any other name I will accept it for making this rant but...had to say something.

But aren't the covers a fairly large part of the show? So if your friend doesn't like the covers, even if they are cool with the characters and the stories, there'd still be a big chunk of every episode that would piss your friend off. Just a quick glance through the other wiki shows that the second season averages at about 6 or 7 covers per episode. With every episode running about 45 minutes, that will mean your friend will want to punch out the tv screen every 6 or so minutes.

Subversion, This troper occasionally watches anime. I read several of the trade paperback Naruto books, attempted to watch the anime, watched bleach (subs), Code Geass, NeonGenesisEvangelion but he doesn't like it/never finished it. And he likes worse anime for the mocking oppertunites, and just bad (in his opinion) anime in general. I am a anime machoist.

My dad does that. He doesn't say anything when he finds me reading manga or watching anime, but when I was explaining anime to my mom, he told her "They stole it from us!" Right from the start, I could detect Sue-ness coming from Bella and was disgusted by the ''Breaking Dawn'' synopsis. Recently, I read my sister's copy of ''Twilight'' just to be able to say that I ''have'' read the book and therefore have a right to bash it if I want to. My verdict? If I had gone with Mom to her class reunion instead of reading the book, I wouldn't have been so bored and drowsy. I love parties anyway.

To be fair, there are certain things that even straight men who are really secure with their sexuality can't enjoy. Twilight is one of those, which is why I hate it without reading it.

This troper's first exposure to Twilight was in college, where he was told constantly by the girls in his class hat it was this brilliant new vampire series. Now, this was my first year in a new art school. I assumed that college students at an Art school would know something about what qualifies as good writing, so when I was hearing my classmates discussing this work and telling me that it was "quality literature" I imagined there might be something to it. Then I saw a mock-up alternate cover for the first book on a wall for an assignment. I read the back which quoted the "Of three things I was certain" line and my jaw hit the floor. THIS is what my classmates, supposedly well educated college students, are calling "high quality literature?" I just couldn't believe it. There had to be more to the story. I went home and read a synopsis on the other wiki and it just kept getting worse. And this was only the beginning, when it was just a popular book that surely would come and go and never mean anything. sigh.

Kind of off topic, but considering there are college professors arguing that students can't write, I am not surprised.

I tried to avoid this trope by reading Stephenie Meyer's The Host. Sure, it's not Twilight, but I don't have much interest in that genre and figured it would give me a good idea of her writing style. I got about fifty pages in before I dropped it. I realized that the more I thought about what I had read, the less I liked it. She barely describes anything, apart from the physical appearance of character. Everything is blunt and repetitive. And for being a science fiction book, she seems to have no idea about what real-world science says about the things the book deals with (i.e. the psychological and neurological workings of the human mind).

Interestingly, the general census on TheHost is it's better than Twilight or at least decent. Make of that as you will.

This troper seriously tried to read through ''Blood Noir'', the latest in the ''AnitaBlake'' seires, just to see what all the hype was about, and simply could not choke it all down. After reading through something that looks like this for example, I imagined that the scissors depicted on the front cover were for jamming into your eyes to distract you from the pain. With no other familiarity with the series, I made the mistake of assuming that the rest of the books were equally bad, unaware of the shark jumping generally blamed for ruining an otherwise decent series.

This troper, who absolutely loves ''{{Lost}}'', is annoyed by more than one friend being put off to it (and consequently calling it crap) because of a scene lasting less than 2 minutes in the pilot where the monster shows up and promptly leaves. This Lost fan ''still'' encounters people who go on about the polar bears and how "they still haven't explained them". If they had bothered to watch the show, they'd have learned the bears are DHARMA experiments from the Hydra who got loose and swam to the main island during the Purge.

Yeah, it's true. I've also heard "I watched 3 or 4 episodes randomly and I didn't like it", when you have to watch it since the begining to enjoy it. Then there are the "AN ISLAND WITH POLAR BEARS LOL THAT'S STUPID" idiots... yeah.

Then again it's a perfectly valid argument that any show where you have to watch from the absolute start to have any idea what's going on has writing problems. Not able to start mid season? Fine. Not able to start with the season premier? Not so much.

YMMV. I don't see any reason why a show should waste established fans' time by constantly reminding us what we already know every time a new season starts. Especially since those rare moments where it did occur (such as Sawyer feeling the need to remind everyone in the room what Michael did, as if they could forget) it came off as unnatural. Really, plot-heavy series should be watched from episode 1 almost always. The show may be complicated, but how to watch it isn't.

Happened with this troper as well. Hated the show the entire time it was running, but when my sister started watching it on Netfix: First I tried to ignore it; after that I started doing those sneak glance, not-supposed-to-look-but-are things; next I was asking questions about what was happening, and then I was hooked.

This troper has trouble getting anyone to watch the re-imagined {{Battlestar Galactica}} probably because of the name. On a side note, nearly everyone wants to watch the entire TV series after watching the pilot.

This troper was endlessly frustrated by all the people he knew who watched the ''{{Seinfeld}}'' finale without seeing any of the episodes that came before it, hated it, and used that as an excuse to claim that the show sucked and was overrated. In the first place, a finale should never be your first exposure to a series, and in the second place, the actual quality of said episode is vastly argued over by people that actually like most of the show.

As someone who hangs out on music forums, FallOutBoy, Panic! At the Disco, My Chemical Romance, {{Korn}}, Creed, {{Slipknot}}, and any and all Rap & Hip Hop all get ferociously bashed by people who have probably heard maybe one or no songs by said bands and just try and follow the crowd.

As well, I've had trouble getting people to listen to artists like {{Buckethead}} or FrankZappa because they tend to be weird. And judge it as something they won't like just because it isn't the norm.

Several seniors have approached this troper saying that the reason I'm such a cynical, poor excuse of a teenager is because, well, the music I listen to. Here's the kicker, they don't know what I listen to. If they did, they'd know I listened to a combination of The Beatles, Yes, The Rolling Stones, Guns 'n' Roses, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Warren Zevon, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Old bands, etc. Not to say I don't listen to some Metal from time to time, but I thoroughly enjoy a good song from Frank Sinatra. The only thing worse than these irrational haters were the pompous forty-year-old male self-appointed music critics going on about how they didn't "get" the music, so clearly it had no depth or value and completely missing the fact that the music was aimed at thirteen-year-old girls, you know, rather than forty year-old men. The worst one of that ilk this troper ever saw was an almost page-long rant on Ashlee Simpsons' second album talking about how the album "epitomized everything wrong with the record industry today" because she was a BLONDE(!!!) so clearly she was talentless. I wish I was kidding. Now that I and my musical tastes have grown up a bit (Sinead O'Connor, Sarah [=McLachlan=], Tori Amos, etc.), I recognize that, yeah, these albums aren't "great" (in the patronizing, holier-that-thou sense of music critics) but you know what? They have decent (if not great) voices, and they're fun, easy to sing along with, and easy to dance to. Which is kind of the point of "pop" music, no?

I agree. I listen to a variety of music, including pop music, but my favourite band just happens to be a pop group. And you have no idea how much stick I've gotten from people for being a fan, usually something to do with how their music is guitar-pop/pop-rock means that they are an insult to "real" musicians. (What does that even mean anyway? I thought anyone who made music could be considered as a musician). I personally hate the idea that a performer is automatically crap just because they are a mainstream pop musician. Not saying my favourite band are the greatest band to ever exist, but some people need to realise that some songs are just fun and enjoyable to listen to by certain people, regardless of genre or popularity.

This troper gets a lot of crap for listening to Björk - for every person that has listened to her music and legitimately disliked it, there are at least three others that dismiss her on the grounds that "lol isnt she that chick that wore the duck/they made fun of on snl/family guy/whatever?"

This troper won an argument with her classical-music-buff father by pointing out that Jazz, in its early days, suffered many of the same criticisms that Rock and its various offspring have. Jazz is now about a century old and widely considered "high culture".

This Troper was having a bad go of it when it came to relating to other people's video game tastes for a while. When EGM had a negative preview of DeadRising from the ObviousBeta of it from E3 2005, she bent to the pressure and briefly hopped aboard the "this game's gonna suck" bandwagon. Then, the game came out. A magazine that I actually like, Game Informer, gave it a glowing review. Of course, other magazines gave it a positive review, but Game Informer's was the one that convinced me that the game was worth buying an Xbox 360 for. Which I did. This troper, in a discussion on Wii Virtual Console users who think ''x'' game sucks because they don't know anything about it, came across someone who says that if a VC release is a "generic" Shoot Em Up, he doesn't need to know anything about it to not like it. Well, you know what? Tell me what genre of games you're into so I can classify all of its games as "generic" as well.

This troper remembers his friend bashing the entire ''FinalFantasy'' series for having "stupid looking girly men with big swords and having to wait your turn to fight", despite the fact that only about 3 of the 12 games in the main series (would be 4 but I don't count Vaan as a major character anymore) have actually had androgynous characters as party members, the swords were only really over sized those two times, and the person saying this was playing a Pokemon game at the time, which is more turned-based then any FinalFantasy game then the first three. This troper assumes that since FF VII is regarded as the best people automatically assume that whatever it does is the norm.

Also on that note, ''KingdomHearts'': this tropers brother stated "THAT GAME LOOKS TOO CARTOONY SO IT SUCKS" followed by the retort "* gasp* HOW DARE THEY MAKE DISNEY CHARACTERS LOOK CARTOONY".

I didn't want to play Kingdom Hearts because, due to it having Disney characters in it, I figured it'd be childish. Then, when I decided to actually play it, my PS2 crapped out (though, I'm sure it's a good game and plan to eventually get a PS2 that works so I can actually play it).

I hated it without playing it first and try to find any excuse to not like it. Now after giving it a chance, my answer is "it's mediocre at best".

The Get Along Gang page is still pretty bad off. For one, The Buddy Bears were a parody of TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong itself. not this show. And really, besides the title, I never really got why it's counted as the poster boy for that trope. I saw the Nelvana pilot and a handful of episodes, and not one used it beyond Bingo betting the clubhouse without telling anyone.

Where this troper lives, Western Animation as a whole falls into this, to a certain point. Unless you have, like this Troper, watched many of those shows. This Troper absolutely hates Bon Jovi, even though he has only heard Livin on a Prayer and You Give Love a Bad Name. It doesn't help that his classmates sing it all the time and consider them to be one of the greatest metal bands of the eighties. The above troper is a fine example. The show starts slow, but the second and, most of all, the third season more than make up for its initial buggers. And even the examples mentioned manage to do their job: the Decepticons ''are'' big threats (even if big goofs), and Prime dying was a good (though an admittedly cheap) way to introduce the power of the plot-device MacGuffin Allspark Key. All things considered, compared to earlier TF series, it is more of a "Yes Just Yes" show than anything. Or so I, once a skeptic hater of the promotional art material, say.

This troper used to have a habit of not trying a game because "it looked dumb." It took me 8 years before I gave Metal Gear Solid a chance. It is now a personal favorite. Other games I rejected initially, but now will happily play: Megaman Zero (ZX probably would have been subjected to the same treatment if I hadn't played Zero before hand), Final Fantasy and Castlevania.

This troper observed what initially appeared to be a StopHavingFunGuy complaining about a game being easy and boring due to being too slow and having too much grind. After many days of heated debate, drama, and some flame warring, the guy made a post talking about the "hours" of gameplay it takes to grind your way up, and people realized where his attitude was coming from: The game displays a times in MM:SS:ss format, so a time of 4 minutes and 54.21 seconds would be displayed as 4:54:21. The guy thought the times were in HH:MM:SS format, and thus would interpret such a time as 4 hours, 54 minutes, and 21 seconds. (You'd think the occasional third number that was more than 60 would be a major tip-off.) By the way, the game he was complaining about? Tetris: The Grand Master 3.

This troper admits to having done this about Xbox Live's multiplayer on the 360, even though he actually has SOME basis considering that almost everyone who played the original Xbox live plays it on the 360.

Almost every FPS multiplayer or 360 player in general is tainted with the "Croyt" and "Chocolate Milk Kid" images that preceded them, as well as many of the non-hostile players who are Sober. It doesn't help that even in games that don't have this taint as much as others (Halo 3 is the most tainted, Team Fortress 2 probably has the least taint) you run into at least one "Concentration camp" server where people yell at you.

Back in sixth grade, everybody in this troper's Middle School would collect and talk about ''{{Yu-Gi-Oh}}'' cards. Was it the extreme popularity they had? He doesn't know. Was it that the commercials they had for the show were broadcast very loudly and obnoxiously? Don't know. Or maybe that it was constantly shown as being at odds with a certain monster-capturing game/anime that in actuality didn't have much in common with it? Possibly; he was a fan of the latter. This Troper thought The West Wing seemed pretty boring and didn't understood why it was so popular and got so many awards. then she saw an episode,nearly by accident. It was "20 hours in america" and she fell in love with the show.

When this Troper was a wee one, she thought ''FullmetalAlchemist'' was ridiculous because: "Animes (note the 's') don't have blonde main characters!" Please forgive this Troper, she was young. She was still in her fledgling anime years (as in Pokemon, Digimon, and so on) and now FMA is probably one of her favorites, with ''Naruto'' along with it for some time.

This troper comes across heaps of people who hate Buffy based on the name and the premise. Most of them won't even be convinced otherwise when they're told that despite the name and premise admittedly sounding bad, it's generally considered one of the best TV series ever made.

After reading a couple of the comics and watching a few episodes, this troper realized that it wasn't as bad as she thought and is now literally obsessed with the series and is constantly up-to-date on it. It's kind of funny looking back at all the hate her and her friends had given it just a few months ago.

This troper gleefully rags her mother about slamming ''Harry Potter''. Ten years ago, said troper suffered a horrible bout of depression after breaking up with her fiance. Said troper's mother got it into her head that said troper was depressed because she thought said troper was reading Harry Potter novels. Her reasoning: she'd read some especially egregious Harry Potter-slamming articles which pointed out all the dark stuff in it, without noting all the very broad humor that's much more pronounced in the series, especially the earlier books. Said Troper had to inform her that said troper had never even cracked the cover of a Harry Potter book and that her depression stemmed from breaking up with the man she thought she was going to marry. Later on, said Troper read the books and told her mother, "If someone gets depressed from reading Harry Potter, there is something mortally wrong with their psyche."

This troper has a friend who complains about {{Gears of War}} and constantly says that there's only one good part. When I asked him how much he had played he admitted that he's only played one level.

I'm admittedly another person who does this regarding ''Lierature/{{Twilight}}'', but I really have read enough sporks and the like to know that it's terrible. I got into an argument with a friend about it - she loves it and doesn't like ''PushingDaisies'', I'm the opposite. She insisted that I couldn't criticise Twilight without reading it, and when I asked if she'd seen Pushing Daisies, she said yes, but then it turned out that she didn't have a brilliant grasp of it, thinking that someone dies for ''every minute'' Chuck is alive, when it's just the first minute. I'm tempted to read the damn books just so I can critique them with authority.

After the author of ''Let's Talk About Love: A Journey to the End of Taste'' went on TheColbertReport, this troper's friends loudly proclaimed that they would never read it, having only heard that it was about Celine Dion. In fact, it uses Dion's music as a jumping-off point to explore how people make arbitrary judgments regarding taste -- including negative judgments of anything related to Celine Dion.

A friend of this troper hate all games made, published or other way related to Square-Enix (or any other Japanese studio), just because he saw ''FinalFantasyVII'' once as a kid and decided it was boring.

This troper is guilty of fussy eating. However, this troper's had bad experience with trying new foods as a child that have somewhat messed him up.This troper, as a toddler, ate a banana for the first time in his life, only to become extremely ill to the brink of death after eating it. Never touched a banana again. He also threw up several times after trying a pickle for the first time.

Trouble with people thinking your major is an easy A? You're in good company!

This troper can't say Communications is an easy "A" with a straight face after watching a bunch of Engineering Majors who "needed an A" in his class fail miserably.

Even within the "hard majors" there exists this! This troper was called "A gardener looking for an easy degree" by being a Horticulture Major. Of course the people who said that have only ever taken the introductory course and have never even looked at the requirements FOR a horticulture degree. I wouldn't call a major that requires the dreaded Chemistry and Calculus an "Easy Major". Chemistry and Calculus requirements exist solely to make Freshmen cry.

They obviously never met a Music major. We have way more courses than them that aren't 4 credit courses, and millions of extra-curricular activities that we have to attend. Not to mention studying for your academic courses AND practicing your instrument (if you are a Performance major).

OMG, yes! This Arts major troper witnessed so many people take the Basic Photography class at his school "just to hang out and cop an A". Cue the curses when half of them couldn't even figure out to ''open'' the camera, let alone load it, and we won't even start on something basic like preparing proofs. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

Art also has this. The art majors are often up '''very''' late working on their portfolio, not to mention art is ''sooooo'' competitive.

It goes the other way too. Certain classes can never get filled because students are convinced that they'll hate the class, or that it'll be boring. This troper ducked Philosophy for three semesters because of this attitude. Until he actually took the class and enjoyed so much he added Philosophy as a minor.

When I was told that all liberal arts was easy, I told it to my sister, and she spent at least ten minutes laughing. Try writing 18 page essays with twice as many "Minimum" Citations as her mother's senior lab reports nearly ''every week''.

Everyone seems to think Psychology is just asking people "and how does that make you feel" and that I'm just doing it for an easy degree. I had to learn the different parts of the brain, their functions, some of the various disorders of the brain, memorize several theorists, the years the lived, their most famous work, then learn another theorist that completely contradicts the previous one... and that's just 101.

As a Communication Arts/Film and Broadcasting History major, I got to hear from my friends all about how my classes were nothing but 'watching movies and TV all day.' Until they took an Intro to Film class and were amazed at how much reading and writing were involved. I always wanted to have them take a grad level course in silent film (with the requisite 40 page term paper, usually graded by the same people that wrote the books you cited) just to watch their heads explode.

Not to mention that many of the films you're required to watch for these courses are freaking ''boring!''

So this troper was talking with her sister about a recent going to the movies, where she had to put aside seeing Up in favor of another movie so my dad could watch it too (he is prejudiced against animation on principle *sulks* ) so we ended seeing state of play thinking I would hate it, I didn't in fact I quite enjoyed, but I really wanted to see up and still wants, wait I haven't finished, when my sister asked about up and I told her it was from Pixar and mentioned the word "animation" she replied. Okay I can tolerate this coming from my father as he is almost seventy but from my 20-something sister, no way! And thank God, I never lived with her, more exchanges of this kind would be unberable.

Ahhh, where to begin. I used to hate Ouran because I thought it was all about gay guys, then I saw this video and saw it, now I love it. I also hated Haruhi Suzumiya because of all the dance cosplay skits about it then I learned about the plot, again a favorite. I also hated Code Geass until I played BVS, now my most favorite anime. I had also hated Halo until I played 2 on a giant plasma screen. Infact so many of my favorite anime, games, and tv shows were like this, that I have now decided to try not to judge something on appearance as best I can.

On one hand, this troper is sick of people dismissing WoodyAllen because of the Soon-Yi Previn situation, especially when they demonstrate that they don't even understand the basics of what happened. On the other hand, some directors strike him as so egotistical and their films so painful (and not UweBoll painful; I mean actively-trying-to-annoy-and-hurt-the-audience painful) that he refuses to watch anything they make, no matter how much praise he hears about them.

Alcohol's not actually a drink. Different ''alcoholic'' drinks taste differently. This is less rejecting one work and more rejecting an entire genre. This troper loves alcohol, but hates beer and wine.

Agreed with the above troper; I've pretty much never found an alcoholic product I like, but I wanted to learn more about beer, since the people associated with the craft beer scene seemed cool. So I started making beer, and have since tried a metric ass-load of beers, ranging from lagers to sours to stouts. I find that I still hate most of them, but I've found a few I do like. Saying you don't like beer because everyone around you is drinking (for example) Bud or Miller is like saying you don't like books because Twilight sucks.

This Troper had this with High School Musical for the longest time, simply hating it for it's popularity, bubblegum music (He has a younger brother, who is NOW 19, that listens to the soundtracks), and the general complaints. So just a few months ago, he watches the original movie, and...yeah, it still sucks, he still hates it, and I hate that Disney can't at least once try for something a bit less teenybopper (and now that he says this, he's ready to see people prove him wrong...)

''HighSchoolMusical'' was by Disney Channel Original Productions, which explains the focus on teens. Disney's recent movies without a teen focus include ''Hidalgo'' and ''Pirates of the Caribbean''. Also keep in mind that Disney owns both Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films, which routinely produce more adult movies.

This troper was a big fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! when he was younger. Now his brother is watching every episode on the internet. When I found out, I went "Oh my gosh, you nerd!" and then started watching it with him. Also happened with this troper discovering Series/DoctorWho and eventually getting my brother and mom to watch episodes.

My friend hates Linkin Park. When I asked him if he had heard a single song, he said no, then I introduced him to New Divide.

Several descriptions of the fight scenes in DBZ have convinced this troper to never ever ever watch that show.

For a short peroid of time, this troper hated Total Drama Island based on the commericals. And this is the same troper who was mad at his friend for hating Linkin Park.

This troper dislikes the Inheritance series and, sadly, has not read them. I suppose this is wrong of me.

Before this troper eventually ended up liking her music, he remembers having a conversation with a Bjork fan and dismissing her as "too weird and creepy", based only upon the "It's Oh So Quiet" video. What strikes him as funny about it now is how that is nowhere near as weird as her music ''or'' videos get (and is a case of CoveredUp besides), and that this was well before more people knew her for the swan dress and having attacked a reporter than for her music.

The earliest example that this troper can think of truly infuriating him was a discussion some of his classmates were having in a study hall where they were making fun of "alternative" music, despite the fact that any references they made to the actual music were admittedly based entirely on 1) a commercial for the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman's ''Romeo + Juliet'', and 2) Anthrax's guest appearance on ''Married With Children''. Although, knowing what he was like at the time, if he'd butted in, his argument would have included a lot of making fun of rap, the music that they liked, which he knew only slightly more about.

This troper has seen idiots on the Yahtzee pasture (aka Escapist) describe [=JRPGs=] with criticisms on stuff that's not even in the game. Such funny examples include:

"Kingdom Hearts is totally linear with the worlds you have to go to". HAHAHA. Yeah right. Did you know that the game only requires that one beats the first set of worlds, then after that, you're only required to beat Captain Hook in Neverland to progress to Hollow Bastion? And that it's actually recommended to sequence-break and beat Deep Jungle ''before'' the initial events at Olympus Coliseum, yet the game says you should do that last? It's just not ''recommended'' because you'll lack experience if you skip everything and go straight to Neverland.

"Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume" is all just one-character comboing at a time" and "The voice acting kills the dramatic scenes". HAHAHAHA. Do these people even bother to play it? The American localization doesn't even ''have'' voice acting during the non-battle scenes, and it's one character comboing at a time? Did they just skip the Tutorial where it tells you how to siege?!

"Zidane is an Emo just like Cloud". I rolled on the floor laughing. Zidane is ''nothing'' like Cloud.

Zidane is, for the most part, the polar opposite of emo. What was this person smoking?

Most members of this troper's family complain about her love of anime claiming it is all stupid and melodramatic. Comepletely by accident she started removing their prjudices toward Japan and animation. Origionally she just really wanted to watch The Seven Samurai so she told them it was the Movie that The Magnificent Seven was based on (this worked because, like me, they like westerns) and then her mom ended up liking it, a lot. That was when she decided to put her plan in motion:

The first stage of my plan involved renting several Miyazaki movies and making offhand comments about how great such-and-such an anime was, it worked, I brought my younger sibling around, now I am in the second stage.

The second stage of the plan involved asking for the first season of Avatar (no it's not really anime, but it is does have Aisian animation and a plot that runs through all three seasons) for my birthday. My mom was like "Why do you want that stupid show?" but still bought it for me. Then I watched it while my siblings were around. I recall hating both Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh as a child, before I ever watched/played them, most likely because I was sick of everyone talking about them. This changed very quickly after exposure to the franchises, and both of those (especially Pokemon) quickly became beloved parts of my childhood.

I'll even admit that I didn't feel terribly sympathetic when the news broke that ''Dollhouse'' was canceled - by my cold-hearted reasoning, the fans were getting a planned resolution so they didn't have any reason to whine like I (a ''{{Firefly}}'' fan) did, right? ...Eating my words now. This troper and ''Literature/{{Twilight}}''. At first, I heard about the premise, and I thought "Oh, that doesn't really interest me, I'll just have to pass on that." Then I heard that it royally sucked from people who read it and thought "Oh, I'm glad I'm not reading that." And then I read Wiki}} this very wiki's article on Twilight.

This troper wants to watch the Edge of Love, she really does. It has Cillian Murphy and she hates complaining about films she hasn't seen. But every summary she has ever read of it anywhere makes her want to vomit and throw things. In her opinion, Cillian Murphy's character sounds like a big Woobie, and his love rival sounds like an asshole, and Keira Knightley's character sounds like an idiot for not dumping the asshole as soon as Cillian Murphy enters the film. It doesn't help that Cillian Murphy is insanely gorgeous and the actor playing his love rival is not that appealing to me, so even a totally shallow bitch should still go for Murphy's character.

Yeah, the problem is that, because they don't watch Fox News, they only see clips on either other programs like ''The Daily Show'' or the net that show the prime-time pundits like O'Reily, Hannity, or Beck. Nevermind that CNN and MSNBC ''also'' use prime-time for opinion-based shows that ''talk'' about the news and don't report it, Fox News is the only guilty culprit and it's bias is far worse than any other biases because it's RIGHT-WING BIAS!

It's worse than other biases because the network's slogan implies it doesn't exist at all. When you claim that your station is "fair and balanced" any bias that can be found will be treated as 10x worse then it is because people feel that you're lying; if you're a news organization and people feel you're lying then they don't feel you can be trusted as a news source...

Also, it goes the other way too. Some right-wing folk that watch Fox News, and other similar stations, don't watch any other news sources for examples of the Left-wing bias they claim things like Fox counter.

She also has a PhD in Chemistry. 2. My sister is currently at college in Texas majoring in Music and Business.

This troper has a friend who absolutely REFUSES to watch The Princess and the Frog because it "ruined the Frog Princess." Never mind that I have explained to her on multiple occasions that it wasn't even based on that book in the first place, just the most basic premise of it INSPIRED the basic premise of PATF. To that, she replied "No, it just got the idea from it and then made its own story." I told her that that was what inspired means.

I usually avoid this except for a few situations. One of these is anything by Tim & Eric. I've never watched a second of their shows, but judging from how stupid the commercials are I don't feel like I'm missing anything (if what's in the commercials are the best parts of the show I don't want to know what the worst stuff is like). Also, the fans act like they're smarter and more refined than you if you dare say the show isn't funny, which is the kind of obnoxiousness that drives me away. I also hate Twilight despite only going off what I've heard about it. I think being a heterosexual male might give you a pass, but if not I'm willing to watch one of the movies so I can legitimately hate it.

Played straight with my sister. She, two of my friends friend and I, all dislike the series Twilight. Not uncommon. Except out of the four of us, only I read the series, and watched one of the movies. Whenever my sister starts parroting the Anti-fans, I usually tell her she has the right to say that she doesn't like what she's heard about Twilight, and that she tried to read the books but found them boring. This troper admits to doing this when it comes to 3D movies. The massive success of Avatar has led to the belief that 3D is used as an excuse to put less effort into writing and acting. From what I've heard about Avatar and the Clash of the Titans remake, this seems to currently be true.

Unfortunately it's true - for awhile, the main page for ClicheStorm said that Avatar only made money because it was the most beautiful movie they had ever seen, and not to bother with the DVD release because they'd have all the visuals watered down and be left with the cliches". You just ''know'' that if Avatar didn't have such a huge visual budget, it'd have been dismissed as a movie with a recycled storyline. Gimme a reason to see the 3D version over the 2D version. My uncle also has a justifiable reason to avoid 3D movies - because he has only one eye, so when he tries to see a 3D movie, all he sees is just a darker version of the 2D film, or a really really blurry mish-mash of colours.

Earlier on, I decided I'd never buy any of Microsoft's video game console series because all the ads I'd seen were for shooting games, which is a genre I don't like. Then I tried Fable, looked at Bioshock (while admitting that it was a shooting game with customizable weapons and special attacks) and saw the vehicular Banjo-Kazooie game for Xbox 360. Now the only reason I'm not buying a Microsoft platform is expense.

My friend once proclaimed that all anime is stupid even though 1. anime is a medium and therefore that statement is like proclaiming all movies retarded and 2. she has never seen one single anime in her LIFE!

This tropes had occasionally called Twilight shit for a while before watching the movie, so I decided to to see how bad it was. I unfortunately can't say much because of how boring it was.

After this troper became obsessed with Axis Power Hetalia She tried to get her best friend to watch it, but she absolutly refused. I asked where all the godmodding in ''Cyborg009'' and ''FruitsBasket'' were, because in all the episodes I had seen of ''Cyborg009'' and the 7 of ''FruitsBasket'', I didn't see any "Godmodding".

Tropers/{{Excel-2010}}. Thanks to my Christian upbringing and TV Tropes, I have Complaining About Shows I Don't Watch, or as I call it to normal people, "media discrimination", down to a science. My usual process for this involves overhearing about something popular at the wrong place and time and gauging how popular it is versus how much hatred it attracts. I then weigh this ratio against how much it interests me in the first place, and if the numbers don't look favorable, I use them to decide how much I will hate it. I don't stop there, though; I have a finely tuned process for determining what about it I don't like while still avoiding ever seeing a second of it. I don't just repeat points against something I choose to never like. I actually do my research and present my points as if to suggest I had seen it and hated it. The mistake of most rookie haters is to pretend they've seen it simply by copy-pasting popular arguments, which are usually if not always wrong. I add to them my own flavor based on similar shows and personal experiences and make them my own. My pattern has worked for so long that I have concluded that I no longer have to watch anything. Now I can just hear about a show I'm not interested in, think it's bad based on its popularity, read a few good and bad reviews and as many spoilers as I'll think I'll need to convince people that I've seen it, and no one will be the wiser. My argument for why I should never watch ''GurrenLagann'' is the best exhibit I have at present, but I feel I could do a lot better these days. However, I don't buy into the hate for like LadyGaga, JustinBieber, the JonasBrothers, ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'', KanyeWest, ''[=~K-ON!~=]'', ''{{Naruto}}'', {{MTV}} programming, UweBoll, [[AcceptablePoliticalTargets any political entity, and other people and shows with clearly divided bases]] everything listed in PeripheryHatedom. Saying anything about things that are already popularly hated is like throwing a match into a wildfire. It just doesn't feel like I'm contributing and I'm only wasting my time. I feel like a tool making jokes at the expense of these shows since every joke I can think of has been done by the likes of ''SaturdayNightLive'' and ''MADMagazine'' by the time I think of it. I only go after shows with many more true fans than haters, simply because I feel alive when I rail against it as the VocalMinority (hopefully as the only person in it). It's much more engaging starting my own fires and coming ever closer to the reason as to why I can't enjoy anything good anymore.

I hasten to add that before I discovered TV Tropes, I had only my [[SeenItAMillionTimes superior powers of inference (thanks to my status as a gifted student) to work out why I don't like something. TV Tropes only makes it a lot easier so I can do it much more efficiently.

So often, people criticizing it, or even so much as claiming that it just isn't music, will seem to have such a stereotypical view of it that it suggests they don't listen to much of it. Understandable, of course, that those who don't like it won't listen to much, but it kind of becomes a catch-22 when this is part of the reason they perceive it the way they do in the first place.

I think that most people who hate rap haven't heard the right kinds. The ones that emphasized the music over lyrics, unlike most of what comes out today, are very listenable.

This Troper is an avid {{Pokemon}} fan. She's noticed a rather nasty habit the fandom has had since around Platinum where new games in the series are deemed So Bad They're Horrible before they're out in JAPAN.

For some reason, I get a little annoyed when I see {{Discworld}} entries. I tried to read two of them, and thought they were "meh" (''Thief of Time'' and ''The Colour of Magic'', if it matters), but I don't know why I don't like seeing them. Maybe it's because ''Discworld'' is supposed to be a humor series, and I didn't find them very funny. It's not because the humor is "too British" and I'm American - I found ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' hilarious. As an experiment, I compared the length of ''Discworld'''s CrowningMomentOfFunny page to that of ''TheDresdenFiles'' - and, despite ''Dresden Files'' having less than half as many books, they're almost the same length. Which means that a dark DeconstructorFleet of fantasy is, relatively speaking, more than twice as funny as a humor series. I then compared the ''Discworld'' page to the CrowningMomentOfFunny page of ''MassEffect'', which has only two games. Now, ''Discworld'' (again) is a humor series and ''Mass Effect'' is a LovecraftLite SpaceOpera bordering on CosmicHorrorStory. Proportionally, the ''Mass Effect'' series is ''thirty-six'' times funnier. Did I put too much work in attempting to justify my not-reading dislike?

But.....Discworld ''isn't'' a humour series. It's a series with humour, a very different thing. Maybe you just don't like the style, a perfectly valid reason.

Then why is the laconic entry for Discworld "the funniest fantasy you will ever read"? Cause it's ''not''. Even if it's not, I still didn't like the style - it rambled.

It's British humour, by a British author, most of it written more than fifteen years ago and referencing pop culture that was contemporary at the time of writing. You just need a more subtle sense of 'funny' to appreciate the Discworld's sense of humour. If you laugh at Wil E. Coyote you probably don't get Esme Weatherwax.

Another Escapist example. Someone complained about how ''KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'' was "too short" and that it "would have been cool if Aqua and Ven's campaigns were different in ways other than playstyle". Anyone who has played that game...or even ''seen'' footage of it on YouTube can tell you that this guy either '''a)''' saw footage from ''one'' campaign and decided the ''entire'' game was like that or '''b)''' ''did'' play it but turned it off about a third of the way through. (ie, Terra's campaign) Surprisingly, the next three posts were, in order, two people who told him to actually ''try'' Ventus and Aqua's campaign since they actually ''are'' different (Surprising given the nature of The Escapist Forums) and a third who, despite those two posts, ''agreed'' with the idiot.

But anyways, my family. I was telling my family ''all the time'' that I wanted out and it was just brainwashing, whereas I was told, "They're not saying that" and "You just want to be spoiled! You'd just play ''WorldOfWarcraft'' or whatever if you didn't have to go!" (Yeah right; I'd be going to Karate instead because it was ''at the exact same time as the Karate class I go to''.) I told mom and dad that they encourage it when families come, and told my sister that she could come too. Guess what their responses were? My sister ''refused'' to come or made up some bullshit excuse as to why. Dad came once, and then left halfway because he was so bored, so afterwords he would just drop me off and then ''LEAVE''. Even after the recent stuff where the ultra-religious neighbours left the church halfway through mass in disgust at a disgustingly anti-Muslim Sermon, they think I made it all up. This Troper as well as many within the {{Yu-gi-oh}} fandom are guilty of this particuarly with the Yu-gi-ohGX. Some of the complaints this troper used to hear for GX went from "They ruined Yugi's character" to "They ruined Jounochi's character" as well as other complaints of RuinedForever, and I genuinely believed it and used it as a reason for not watching the sequel. When I finally did get around to watching GX it was in the middle of the second season, and to my surprise Yugi wasn't around as were none of the original characters from the original Yu-gi-oh series. After that I got curious and started to watch the entire from the start only to find that Yugi only appears in about 4 episodes (the first episode, and the last episodes) with only the last one featuring Yugi's other personality due to time travel. That as well as other complaints couldn't be farther from the the truth with. Now its actually funny to read the posts of those who have never seen either sequels of the Yu-gi-oh franchise and yet complain about the events (which either never happened, or they only have half the story and so are confused by the events) its even funnier to watch to watch them be corrected and then called out on it.

This troper first heard of Harry Potter when the German translation of the Goblet of Fire was released (when I was nine). It was being hyped SO much I absolutely hated even hearing the name. Then my mother actually bought the first book. After the obligatory rant on how stupid she was for buying such an awful book (remember, nine years old), it captivated me enough to actually better my school work; I would be more motivated to finish my homework, because only afterwards I was allowed to read.

I'm guilty of this with Taylor Swift and Twilight. I've never read or seen the latter and have only heard enough of the former to know that she can't sing to save her life, but I hate the hell out of them because they're constantly being shoved at me everywhere I go. The only way to avoid them is to live in a bunker with no access to any kind of media.

To be perfectly honest, before I ever got into anime and manga, I thought it was probably stupid because, literally, I was kind of hating on someone who my friends hated. This person was into anime and manga of course. Then, one day while I was at the library, I decided to read Fruits Basket. Ever since I've liked anime and manga very much. And actually, before I KNEW they were both anime, I LOVED Pokemon and Digimon.

This Troper refuses to watch Zero No Tsukaima. The reason? One of her best friends (who This Troper has a crush on) and his girlfriend identify with Saito and Louise. When said friend found out that This Troper had (and still has) a crush on him, he thought the great idea of This Troper being Siesta. Since then, This Troper hates Zero No Tsukaima. And This Troper has watched only 1 episode of it.

That's a terrifyingly understandable example of this trope. Nobody but the die-hard fans of the show can fault you for it.

This troper absolutely despises the Final Destination movies, yet hasn't watched more than a trailer for any of them.

When this troper was riding on the {{Pokemon}} fame height he heard one of his friends talking about a show called {{Digimon}} and despised it immediately because he thought it was only a cheap rip-off... until he saw it. Cut to some weeks later when this troper himself was explaining to his mom how the shows weren't similar.

Once ''FishHooks'' previews first hit the DisneyChannel airwaves, I immediately went on the TV Tropes forums and made quite a few bile-filled posts about the coming show, declaring it to be an obvious attempt to cash in on the popularity of ''[=~SpongeBob SquarePants~=]'', a hideously terrible GagSeries, a piss-poor "replacement" for ''PhineasAndFerb''... I even went so far as to paraphrase RogerEbert's infamous review of ''{{North}}''. Turns out I had been TaintedByThePreview - when the show actually started airing, I gave it a chance, and while it was nothing great it still had its funny moments. While the [=SpongeBob=] similarities are definitely present and it ''is'' a GagSeries (though really now, it's a show about talking fish - what else could it be?), the advertisements had made the show look much dumber than it really was.

This troper's friend is complaining about stuff that airlines supposedly do (As well as the TSA) without having ever set foot into an airport in years. It's all based off of heavily biased articles that come from StrawmanPolitical sources and other stuff like parodies and is flat out AccentuateTheNegative. Yeah, hard to argue about some stuff like X-rays. (There is a national opt-out day) but has claimed they cavity searched ''everybody''. The fact that me, my mom, another friend, his family of about six people, the rest of my family, and mom's coworkers (Many of which are Indian or have similar names to people who were actually convicted of crimes in India) have ''never'' been cavity searched should pretty much prove that wrong. Also, if he is complaining about every bit of luggage being searched? He'll die if he moves to Holland then - they search ''everybody'''s luggage, even if your name is Mohammed Bin Laden or as dutch as Jan Peter Balkende.

Every time I come across someone who has never played a BulletHell shooter, but refuses to play them because their initial exposure to the genre was through {{Cave}} {{True Final Boss}}es or ''{{Touhou}}'' on Lunatic, I die a little on the inside.

All but two of this troper's friends despise Neon Genesis Evangelion with a passion. Have they watched it? No more than 2 episodes. Why? Because "It's too weird and dark" or "It makes no sense" or "It's too angsty" or "The Coma scene".

This troper finds that a lot of "professional reviews" fit this trope. He always noticed that when it's a third-party magazine or review site, (like the Idiot Gamers Network or Game Misinformer) the amount of advertising is directly proportional to the detail of the review. Or, in the case of first party magazines, PC gamer, and XPlay, an ''extreme'' BiasSteamroller. I've not only seen hypocritical and inconsistent praises (ie, praising ''Morrowind'' and ''DragonAge'' for having in-game literature only to turn around and trash ''FinalFantasyXIII'' for doing the exact same thing) but occasions where reviews contradict stuff in the game, or even worse, when the review contradicts ''itself''. Adamn Cesspool and Morgan Manjaw of ''XPlay'' fame even ''admit'' they don't personally play every game, and several times they've had their own research failures. (''DeadRising: Chop till you drop'' and ''TalesOfTheAbyss''.) Not that improfessional reviews haven't been free from other things.

Oooooohhh. I grew to hate so many magazines and ''XPlay'' especially because of that kind of bias. It was a good show once, I swear. But G4 started to go down the tubes in 2005. There was no going back. I have never hated a show's SeasonalRot more than this one's. The last time time I watched it, which will be the last time I ever watch it, was to see a review of ''BioShock'', which, being an FPS, was not subjected to the BiasSteamroller. (It also helped that it was a good game.) Besides that, isn't picking on the hosts' gender identity CompletelyMissingThePoint and a little fragrant of UnfortunateImplications, though?

This troper hates the Left4Dead series, despite never playing either game in its series. It's because it's a SurvivalHorror game, a genre that I admit I suck at. I can't count the sheer number of people who claim to not like Superman, because "he's too boring", yet have never read a single comic in their entire lives. After spending two years watching an old friend of mine go from JerkWithAHeartOfGold to being just plain JerkAss, it was his implementation of this trope that finally made me give up on him. Reason being, I am a Gleek, and he knows this very well. And yet every time I mention it, he goes on a rant about how it's "soulless corporate bullshit" and that it's "ruining the music industry". And it's also, apparently, "just like HighSchoolMusical". While he's saying all this, I'm calmly defending why I like the show (the covers aren't better than the originals, but they're still really good, and I love the plot and characters to death)...only for him to, effectively, ignore me and carry on about how shit he thinks it is. I asked him, "Have you seen any episodes?" His reply? "Enough for me to make a judgement" (in other words, about five minutes). What's even funnier about him going on about how it's exactly like High School Musical is that ''he's never watched High School Musical either.'' But I twigged that, since he doesn't care enough about my opinion to stop bashing something I love, then fuck him.

Exact same issue with this troper, but change Glee for BritneySpears and you get this punk-ass jerk I used to ALMOST consider a friend. He can't even tell me WHY he dislikes her. This troper read a ''terrible'' review of ''FinalFantasyXIII'' that fit this trope. For starters the dude had a ''huge'' BiasSteamroller and it was obvious they did almost ''no'' research. Not only did they do shit like say it was Tetsuya Nomura's new shit when his input was actually limited to designing the characters, but they obviously didn't even get through the first chapter. The review stated that the game was full of unskippable and lenghty cutscenes and tutorials. Yes they have lengthy cutscenes, but apparently the revier didn't know you could hit start and then select or back to ''skip them''. And as for the tutorials, yes the game has them, and yes it interrupts you to ask if you'd like to undergo them...but ''right before they start'', you're given the option of ''skipping them''. Unskippable cutscenes? The review also said the entire game was easy because the first two battles were easy as shit - Really. You're judging a game whether or not it's easy or hard ''based upon the first couple battles''? They state that you only get three ATB-gauges in the game and that it was a ripoff of SepterraCore; and that Fang was the designated Healer and support character. The review was just too painful to read...I had to wonder whether or not they just watched footage of demos on YouTube and judged the game from that.

This troper used to feel this way towards MyChemicalRomance and then they released Na Na Na and now I will give em a chance.

This troper has heard of a lot of complaints that "PokemonBlackAndWhite" is just "Another find the professor" and "Defeat those guys". For starters, when do you have to ''find'' the professor? She friggin acts as Ms. Plot Exposition...you never have to ''find'' her! And "Defeat those guys" is a ''very'' broad term...if that's a reason the game is bad, then I guess it's safe to say they hate every game on the market that's not sports, puzzle, or adventure - since almost ''ALL'' of those plots are "Defeat those guys".

I'd take sports off that list since your goal is still to "defeat those guys". In fact, if you think about it, "defeat those guys" is basically the point of almost all media. So, basically, they like to watch paint dry.

When I first saw a trailer for ''CastleInTheSky'', I dismissed it for seeming too reminiscent of ''AtlantisTheLostEmpire''. Once I actually saw the film, I gave it a slot in my top 3 Miyazaki movies.

There's a religious TV show aimed for children called ''We Are Catholic''. I once forced myself to watch two episodes, one where a bridge fell when the pope was coming (and apparently the chapel he was attending was ''only accessible by the bridge that just fell!'') and another when the clerk guy got trapped in his own attic home. I found myself facepalming the crap out of my own face at the retarded decisions every damned character made. Oh, and don't get me started on that token blind, orphaned and crippled character, Henry. Dear God, if they made him black or Asian, they would have appealed to every token minority out there.

Whenever I start liking something new, he automatically dubs it as "stupid", "annoying", "gay", "girly", etc. Examples include WesternAnimation/AdventureTime, RegularShow, SinAndPunishment, TraumaCenter, {{Transformice}}, {{Homestuck}}, SymBionicTitan, {{Pokemon}}, YuGiOhTheAbridgedSeries, and a few other things. After convincing him to watch/play/read all those, he actually likes most of them.

I myself, however, am pretty good about not complaining about stuff I haven't watched. I forced myself to sit through two episodes of ProblemSolverz before dubbing it as crap, read the first two Literature/{{Twilight}} books (and saw the first movie) before hating on it, and played an hour into SonicTheHedgehog2006 before taking a hammer to it. Even if I'm told that something is crap, I'll subject myself to it before stating an opinion.

This troper complained about KodomoNoJikan's fanservice and loli-ness before ever watching or reading it. After reading the manga, I can honestly say... not all of my complains were unwarranted.

I used to be guilty of this when I was younger. One example I can think of is DetectiveConan[=/=]Case Closed. Back when it was still airing on AdultSwim, I initially disliked it only because I thought the artstyle was weird. This changed when I happened to catch the first episode of the Moonlight Sonata two-parter while playing on a Gameboy late at night. While it's not one of my favorite anime series, I still quite like it (especially those two episodes).

My mother both passed this on to me, with her hate of {{Seinfeld}} when I was younger (until I watched it myself), and then fell victim to it followed by going back on it for several shows, most notably FamilyGuy (and subsequently AmericanDad), and also TwoAndAHalfMen.

Bringing up {{iCarly}} anywhere that isn't a specific fandom area will draw this.

I have never watched an episode of JerseyShore. Hopefully, I'll never have to.

My friend doesn't want to watch Code Geass because it looks like another typical high school mecha show. Granted, I don't like Code Geass either (or rather, I like it for all the wrong reasons), but at least get your facts straight before you bash it. Then he accuses me of not giving Resident Evil a chance (he seriously said: "come on, you're not going to damn a game just because of the controls are you?") despite the fact that I already finished it and still hated it.

I initially refused to watch Dragon Ball Abridged based on the assumption that it's only trying to ride on the success of Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged. After I watched it, it was somewhat funny but I didn't become a dedicated follower. On the flipside, my friend didn't want to watch Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged because he never followed Yu-Gi-Oh, which by the way is missing the point. He had to eat his words after showing him "Egyptian Laser Beams".

There's a religious show for kids called ''We Are Catholics''. I only watched at least two episodes here and there, yet I love to mock it because of the one-dimensional characters, the poor plotting, etc. I mean, I get the messages they're trying to tell, but still...

''SaturdayNightLive'' in the '90s because it spawned the interminable idiot buddy/lead idiot comedy genre. It forever skewed my concept of comedy in general. So much so, that on the unintentional series finale of ''JoanOfArcadia'', when she ''poured her heart out'' about enjoying those types of movies, I considered it a DethroningMomentOfSuck.

''DukeNukemForever''. I can't believe that after 12 years, they subjected the game to a RapeAsComedy via FaceFullOfAlienWingWong plot. I wasn't particularly looking forward to the game anyway, but I was still aware of Duke's legacy, so it was disturbing to learn that 1) the game was SoOkayItsAverage and 2) that that was the game's story, inasmuch as it has one. I know that the plot had to have been changed since the 3D Realms days, but still, ''that'' was what they came up with? ''That'' crossed someone's desk, and was deemed appropriate for the audience? I'm fully aware that some reviews deem the actual gameplay to be acceptable, but even one of those felt the need to point out that the game's [=NPCs=] don't even react if you shoot at them. It was discouraging to read the comments on a more critical review where the reviewer's personal BerserkButton was the story, where the FanDumb came out of the woodwork to unleash a hellstorm of ComplainingAboutPeopleNotLikingTheShow and how the critic should lose his job. You'd think he'd personally insulted all of their mothers or something.

I have a friend who will not watch a Tyler Perry movie. He has all of these reasons why he hates it, yet these are all based on things someone else has said. He's never seen the movies. Went so far to complain about the movies being there to "exploit" Black Americans, yet has not seen a single one! Its one thing to dislike it, its another to completely patronize it and the people watching it to the level of UnfortunateImplications in order to excuse never seeing it.

I used to call Mozila Firefox shit despite never trying it and always using Internet Explorer . Now I hate Internet Explorer beacuse of stuff like how hard it is to view browser history.

This troper used to run in fear from anything Harry-Potter-related, because she'd had a glance at the movie, which terrified her. Then she was introduced to the first book, and fell into the world of Harry Potter. And later fell out of it. The series became increasingly "darker and edgier," as people say, and what she had really loved about Harry Potter was the style prevalent in the beginning. (Then she opened up ''Howl's Moving Castle'', and it was like coming home again, which is odd, because DianaWynneJones was writing long before J. K. Rowling.)
