TengenToppaGurrenLagann

This anime has changed my life. Before, I realised I was just living life the way it is...just plain old surviving. Listening to Kamina telling Simon to "Kick reason to the curb and go BeyondTheImpossible! '''THAT'S''' how Team Gurren rolls!" it has now become my personal motto while I try to better myself in everything I do. I have currently used Kamina's {{Badass}} quotes to help man up my wimp of a cousin. In short, TengenToppaGurrenLagann is the best thing that has happened to me. Hell, not just me; all of freaking creation. Thank you, StudioGainax.

Ditto.

This was the first anime that wasn't {{Pokemon}} This Troper watched when she got into anime. She thought it was one of the greatest shows ever. But, that was before she got into other anime like {{D Gray man}}, {{One Piece}}, {{Hetalia}}, and {{Gintama}}. Don't worry, This Troper still likes Gurren Lagann. Her favorite character is Leeron, because he makes This Troper laugh out loud.

I had a HeroicBSOD for two days from the scene in Lagann-Hen where Nia (my favorite character) was raped - not metaphorically, LITERALLY - by the Anti-Spiral, causing me to actually lose sleep over seeing a character who I felt really protective of have her body violated, and seeing the villain commit the ultimate crime upon her. I know she's not real, but that scene was HighOctaneNightmareFuel on the level of seeing a family member get raped for me. What's worse is that I know there are people in the world who found that scene to be FetishFuel. Ever since, the Anti-Spiral himself has become a BerserkButton, as well as his fans - never have I hated a villain more. Normally, EvilIsCool for me, with my favorites being Makuta, Dr. Facilier, Ganon, Megatron, also Megatron, Darkrai, and Kefka. Most of them are Complete Monsters, but unlike the Anti-Spiral, as evil as they get, they never rape anyone.

{{Moviepyr0}}- Dude, I'm really sure it was only MindRape. I see the undertones of the scene, and there's the violation the MindRape brings. But it doesn't make sense for it to be actual rape, the Anti-Spiral doesn't have any reason to. He's probing Nia's mind to find why Nia chose to be awesome instead of an Anti-Spiral. It would make sense if the Anti-Spiral was trying to give her absolute despair (in which case I'd probably have a HeroicBSOD too), but that's not what he's trying to do (in that scene anyway). The Anti-Spiral's trying to get information, rape isn't going to help him much. Not to mention he doesn't seem to have any, er, parts....
#122428
I'm not talking about the scene in the series, I'm talking about this scene from the second movie. I mean, the guy DISSOLVES HER {{Tron}}-esque jumpsuit and does this. And there goes the BSOD again.
#122429
Yes, we know. It's still only metaphorical.
#122430
{{Moviepyr0}}- I was talking about the scene in the movie too. Relax, the Anti-Spiral's drill is not the drill that violates Nia, his is the drill that gets the shit kicked out of it by Simon.
#122431
Despite what you guys say to alleviate the matter, I have to point out that this visual is extremely unsettling and could easily be considered as RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil. I share the same problem with the original Troper who posted this; I absolutely refuse to watch the second movie because of this scene. The Anti-Spirals are out of character doing this, for one. Secondly, after this happens to her, she dies from using her power source in the final battle's win. After she had already expressed her love for Simon eariler which was rather adorable and quite long-lasting...Gainax went too far with that. This was an unacceptable attack against this character and her archetype of the gentle and kind GirlNextDoor and PrincessClassic with strong wills of steel. That scene never should have happened, and it is one of the reasons I feel the lack of Nia's revival was a detraction.
#122432
...You know, when I found out that you actually got to see Nia naked in the movie, I kind of wanted to see it more. But after Googling it, I'm just creeped out, now. Oh, and it sounds like the ending's even worse than before, now. Thanks, Gainax. I'll still see it though because, with the exception of how Nia gets treated, Gurren Lagann is still fucking awesome.
#122433
This troper starts doubting himself? Episode 11. This troper needs action in his life? Episode 23. This show's so awesome, it's ''formulaic''.
#122434
I was watching the second arc and after seeing what Rossiu was doing I really wanted to borrow Yoko's sniper rifle.
#122435
You know, it's kind of sad that way. At the point where I ''most'' wanted Rossiu to get punched in the face, he doesn't, and dodges every single attack by Kittan. By the time Simon actually gets around to punching him in the face? I felt so sorry for Rossiu I didn't want him to get hit anymore.

Does anybody know where I can buy a pair of KaminaShades? After watching the first few episodes and after finding out what they can turn you into, I have determined that the person who gives me the location of a shop where I can buy them will get no less than ''three'' {{Made Of Win}}s.
#122437
Personally, I am offended that I couldn't find where to buy Kamina Shades. C'mon, capitalism. Anyway, since it may be tough to find a pair, you may have to make your own. I read a forum thread somewhere that recommended taking a cardboard cutout of Kamina's shades to an acrylic shop (whatever ''that'' is) and having them make it in the proper color of acrylic. Then, just take an old pair of glasses and hot glue the... ear... holdy... ''things'' to them. I don't know ''what'' to call them. Anyway, that's the best I could find. Good luck. ~Wragnaroq R. This troper recently saw the second movie at an anime convention. BEST TWO HOURS OF MY LIFE. Basically, the viewing room had an excellent surround sound system, and you could FEEL the epic punches and explosions THROUGH THE SPEAKERS. This, combined with the fact that there were at least fifty people crammed into that room, got the crowd riled up and running on adrenaline VERY fast, not to mention you could feel the excitement practically radiating off of everybody around you. The fans went absolutely nuts at the appropriate moment, and I personally enjoyed screaming my lungs out at the appropriate moments. There was even one guy that yelled out "GRIT YOUR TEETH!!" when Simon had a brief flashback to Kamina punching him that first time on top of the Dai-Gunzan. He was applauded by all. I personally screamed out "SPACE VOLCANO!!!" when all of the members of Team Dai-Gurren made said giant volcano appear behind them from their sheer AWESOME. All in all, that day was the most awesome anime con I've ever been to! 8D

When This Troper (CCharmanderK) first viewed the second ''Gurren Lagann'' film, he could've sworn that, as Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann formed and grew to immense sizes, he felt his balls grow. I repeat: my testicles literally expanded in size while watching the most badass giant robot fight ever conceived.
#122448
Watched it for the first time in an Anime Convention as well. Only difference was it was around 200 people all crunched into a theater, and I spoiled myself partially. Didn't mean my girlfriend didn't practically climax in my arms watching the final fight. Seriously. It wasn't just her, either; Every woman in the whole audience was crying out in joy simultaneously. Same with the guys. The tension kept building and building to the final fist fight, at which point the whole damn crowd stood up and cheered. And we got the needed "FINISH HIM!!" screamed out as Simon raised his blood drill. When we walked out of the theater and my love was actually weak-kneed and woozy, I realized I was going to need to cosplay as Simon in the future if I ever wanted to provide near the level of ecstasy she felt. Not going to be easy to even imitate '''that''' level of awesome.
#122449
As for me, I spoiled myself unintentionally by coming to TV Tropes' own Gurren Lagann page, but miraculously managed to collect the series on DVD. Gonna be honest, after the title card showed up in the last episode, I was crying ManlyTears for the rest of it. Seriously. And for a little bit after, as well. I can identify a lot with Simon's character growth, and seeing him finally triumph at the end combined with the sheer awesomeness of the whole thing... it affected me like few other things did. I LOVE THIS SERIES.
#122450
This troper managed to build up a substantial debt to his internet company by downloading all twenty-seven episodes from the Playstation Network in two days, on top of the two bucks an episode cost. Totally worth it, 'cause now I can watch it wherever I want on my PSP.
#122451
Is there anything resembling a face in a schoolbook in this troper's possession? KAMINA SUNGLASSES. NO EXCEPTIONS. Best one so far has to be an owl from an old Greek coin.
#122452
This troper actually managed to snap a stressed college student back to their senses with the words "Don't believe in yourself! Believe in us who believe in you!" By posting it on a Facebook status. WHO DA MAN?!
#122453
Talking about school, or college, this troper used Gurren Lagann as an inspiration for a paper on Economics. I discovered that Léon Walras was the first man to "kick away the logic and make the impossible possible", with the General equilibrium theory. But, since it's RealLife, for the economic science, the theory is plainly discredited.
#122454
Seeing too much of this anime makes me a) hopelessly addicted to badass, and b) see faces EVERYWHERE. Creepy when you think about it too much.
#122455
Okay, guys, I learned something ''very'' important: Don't watch a marathon of the new My Little Pony show before watching the last seven episodes of the Gurren Lagann, and then going to bed. The result? '' '''REALLY''' '' weird dreams.
#122456
Totally trying it.
#122457
This troper's trying it too...Oh, wow, Fluttershy...I had no idea you could pilot the King Kittan.
#122458
All honestly, Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann was my introduction to Super Robot anime, and after watching it, I decided to try some of the other SR anime on the web. This show is not a good introduction, as I have yet to find (after 6 months of searching) an SR anime that can compare to Gurren-Lagann.
#122459
Try EurekaSeven. It's like GurrenLagann with PowerOfLove instead of PureAwesomeness and SkySurfing boards instead of drills. And CrowningMomentsOfHeartwarming about as grand as Gurren Lagann's CMOA's.
#122460
Try playing any multiplayer game with the GurrenLagann soundtrack blasting at full volume in the background. Especially the orchestral battle tunes. While mic spamming them to everyone on your team. Have fun before the server crashes from Spiral Nemesis happening.
#122461
THANK YOU, Gurren Lagann (And GAINAX, for creating such an amazing show), for helping me out of a severe depression.

As an aspiring manga/comic-writer here in the USA, I've had moments where I've truly doubted myself and wondered whether or not my dream was really attainable, especially with the industry being so closed off to people whose talents lie solely in writing. However, whenever I've gotten this way, I've always heard Kamina in the back of my head, shouting with all his strength: "Go BeyondTheImpossible, and kick reason to the curb! That's the team Dai-Gurren way!" or even Simon saying: "We evolve beyond the person we were a minute before! Little by little, we advance a bit further with each turn." As thus, I'm not giving up on my dreams without a fight, no matter how unreachable it may seem!
#122463
I showed the anime to several of my younger siblings, whose minds were completly blown. I always find them drawing pictures of Kamina's glasses, or pointing to the sky and bellowing dramatic monologues, but the most touching moment was when I found my three-year-old sister in the front yard with a shovel and pail, telling herself "I'm Simon the digger!"

A few days ago I stayed up all night and all day watching episodes 12-27 one after the other (I had been watching like 3 episodes a day up to that point). Since every episode after 16 ends on a damn CliffHanger, I had to keep going and going... Now I'm sad that it was such a short show (and my bandwidth's capped now). Though I suppose it's better to have 27 (Well, 25 at least) awesome episodes than 200 episodes where 40% of it is just {{Filler}}
