InformedAttractiveness
#70377
This male troper was surprised to find out that boobs and butts are supposed to be attractive. Yes I'm straight, I just find faces to be the most important physical feature in a woman.
#70378
I'm glad I'm not the only one; I remember one time when I was in Junior High, all my friends were talking about the girls they liked, and most of them picked the ones with "the hottest bodies"; I for one, I usually liked (well, I still like) more normal looking girls (maybe even skinier or chubbier than the "ideal" of femmenine beauty). I usually go for cuteness over sexyness.
#70379
Thirded by this (female) troper, who could care less abut a guy's
sexy chest and would prefer someone with a pretty face or an {{Adorkable}} personality. I seem to be in the minority here.
#70380
This female troper will happily sit in the minority room with you, where we can have our pick of the {{Adorkable}} boys. ^_^
#70381
Whoa, save some for me!
#70382
I've always wondered about this. What is it about breasts and butts that would make them so attractive to us? Is it simply because of society telling us that it's attractive? Is it because of some natural inborn evolutionary desire for women with large breasts for lactation? Is it a freudian excuse, leftover from a babies desire to breast feed?
#70383
If you went with the "society telling us" explanation, one should ask where society got the idea in the first place.
I would chalk it up to the evolutionary explanation myself. EDIT: As for the "faces" thing, I would find that though I consider big boobs a turn-on, a pretty face is more likely to make me actually have a crush. And even that's only as far as appearance goes...
#70384
That's
pretty universal (75%) for long-term mate selection in males. For men, bodies are more important for short-term relationships, faces for long-term. Of course bodies have more potential for change than faces (there's only so much make-up you can put on), so bodies are where the marketing emphasis is going to be.
#70385
Sarah Jessica Parker? Seriously? She isn't even good looking.
#70386
Whenever
this troper watches television or a movie, and any of the characters talk of a handsome man, or any man in general (especially if it's a lady character's boyfriend), before he arrives, I take it with a grain of salt. My reactions ''after'' seeing them vary between "
Meh..." to "Ergh! His chin/chest's too big!" to "
HOLY HAM! The man ''is''
gorgeous!"
#70387
If you watch BruceCampbell movies you will come to love the chin.
#70388
This troper (no, I'm not telling you my username, that would probably turn this page into
the disclaimer for TroperTales/BiggusDickus all over again) is often told that "he" "is extremely handsome". Said troper doesn't get it, as the only things that actually seem attractive are the naturally MulticoloredHair and (apart from a millimeter-too-long front tooth which
almost never shows anyway and occasionally lazy eyelid) decent facial symmetry.
#70389
This troper is constantly being told by everyone and the cats mother that he isn't as ugly as he thinks he is, and a lot go as far as to say 'good looking' or 'pretty', but this has never translated into the real world or manifested itself in his lovelife. This of course could just be due to constant SelfDepreciation, to the extent where he purposely trolls some of his freinds because it always gets an entertaining reaction.
#70390
This isn't about how pretty you are, but 'everyone and the cat's mother' is the best expression I've heard all day.
#70391
Seconded. Cookies for you.
#70392
Rihanna. She just looks totally weird in my opinion.
#70393
Why do this troper had to be told he is handsome? He's actually a total geek.
#70397
This male Troper feels this way about Megan Fox.
#70399
This Troper gets this one quite a lot: Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Julia Roberts, Keira Knightley....
#70400
Apparently thinking that Megan Fox isn't the sexiest woman alive is a surprise, since This Troper's friends were shocked when he said that he didn't think she was that good looking.
#70401
Aptly describes how I feel about Angelina Jolie. She's just... grotesque-looking.
#70402
For me she's mostly fine--it's just that her lips are ''way too huge'', and yet everyone lavishes attention on how "sexy and pouty" they are. There are also annoying amounts of closeups on her eyes--which are pretty, sure, but Angelina's face has the emotional range of a brick.
#70403
To me, she's moderately attractive, but not the goddess everyone seems to think she is.
#70404
This troper's mother loves to tell her she's pretty/beautiful, despite her rough skin which is finally clearing up. Said troper thinks she probably just falls under "cute."
#70405
This trope is how I feel about Cillian Murphy. Other girls gush about how sexy he is, but for me, he's just weird-looking. I'm aware that I'm utterly alone in this.
#70406
No, you're not. He has such a weird, puffy-looking face...
#70407
I'm in between. I don't think he's that bad, but at the same time his eyes creep me out.
#70408
I think he has beautiful blue eyes.
#70409
For the record, this troper thinks that he's not ''supposed'' to be sexy--everyone's just calling him that because it's becoming the default word for "attractive". He's got an expressive face and really, really, ''really'' blue eyes, even for Hollywood.
#70410
This troper thinks he looks like he's about to burst into tears all the time.
#70411
This happened once in this troper's math class where this kid forgot this girl's name so he referred to her as the "pretty girl," furthermore
ensuing hilarity. Granted it was humorous, but it doesn't do much for this troper's
self esteem.......
#70412
Here's something strange. This troper has been described as good-looking, pretty, hot, whatever. And you know what? It doesn't make a shred of difference. I don't have guys lining up to ask me out. I don't get any special attention at work. Guys don't trip over themselves whenever I walk past. I'm not intrinsically happier or more confident than the next person (quite the opposite in fact, and '''not''' because of the SoBeautifulItsACurse trope). All those cliches listed on the main page, in which women get attention and admiration lavished on them because they climbed out the lucky side of the genetics pool? Total bull-shit. Being good-looking...really isn't that big a deal.
#70413
This troppette understands what you mean. I do get the signals that many people "like" me. Does that mean they ask me out, put themselves out there, do the manly thing. Come up to me and tell me how they feel/that they want to hang out? Not in Sydney baby. It's only happens approx. 1/5 people who find me attractive. Mostly people who I didn't know existed or they did it the cowards way through other people.
#70414
Can someone please tell this troper just when the hell Princess Diana and Jamie Lee Curtis were ever hot, especially with those mannish haircuts they always seem(ed) to sport?
#70415
In Diana's case before she started to rot.
#70416
{{Dude Not Funny}}
#70418
This troper and Johnny Depp. Also frustrating because everyone's response seems to be, "You don't get it because you're a lesbian!" I recognize an attractive man. Depp just...isn't one. >:T
#70419
We don't like him because we think he's attractive. We like him because we think he's ''
weird.''
#70420
Johnny Depp is weird? This straight male troper always considered peoples like him and Lady Gaga painfully mainstream.
#70421
I know, right? I've seen photos, watched the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and my reaction was 'Meh, he's OK.' Nothing special.
#70422
Second that. He's very pretty... but being possibly able to pull off AttractiveBentGender is not necessarily a good thing. And besides, something about him just makes this troper's skin crawl.
#70423
This troper is 21st 5lbs, yet for some reason, girls seem to swoon whenever I look at them. I've been told it's the eyes that does it.
#70424
This troper will never understand how Paul [=McCartney=] was the cute
Beatle. He's just flat-out weird-looking to me. I always found George Harrison about ten times cuter.
#70425
This troper gets this from himself people will comment that i look good but i dont see it.
#70426
This troper's father, a
D&D player back in the day, had this enforced by his
DM. The group included one female, evidently of less than perfect beauty, explicitly have her character be beautiful. Really beautiful. As in, to the point that the DM either
jokingly or to be
serious, forced all the other players to save every. Single. Turn to find out just how
"blown away/stunned/amazed" at the female's beauty they were.
Even if she was dead. Rolling a poor result in turn had them stunned for the rest of the round. Somehow, said SquishyWizard father always managed to ignore this unlike everyone else, leaving him to take on demons and such alone. And still never died.
#70427
This troper's friends continually rave about James Franco. I mean, he's definitely not bad looking, but he's not extraordinarily handsome to me either.
#70428
Lucy Liu is this to Asians. Asians' idea of beauty falls into more innocent look with large eyes. Lucy would be considered average or even unattractive in China since for some people she looks "manly".
#70429
This troper is just downright terrible at telling whether someone is attractive or not. It has to be painfully obvious, and even then I'll be the last one to realize it. To me, just about all attractiveness is of the informed variety.
#70430
This troper doesn't really have conventional ideas of beauty. He doesn't find blond girls with tanned skin and gigantic...um...
thingies to be that attractive. He prefers slender,
ElegantGothicLolita girls with long dark hair and alabaster (a posh word for pale I learned from ''{{Cheers}}'' ) complexions. I love
StrangeGirls, especially ones that seem connected to nature. But also, I believe that a good heart and a nice personality can make a person much more attractive than someone who is petty and mean and nasty. A girl with warm hands, a nice smile (but she doesn't have to smile that much if she doesn't want to; I myself am shy about smiling) and who tries her best to show kindness to all living creatures is WAY prettier than one who lies, hurts and causes pain.
#70431
To this female troper,
RobertPattinson. Not because I actively hate Twilight or anything (I'm actually rather indifferent to it.) He just looks kinda creepy to me... Like he's going to eat people with his eyes or something (and not only on set.) And he is WAY to pale (also not only on set.)
#70432
And his eyebrows are weird...
#70433
I think he's very handsome from certain angles, but that gross greasy hair is goddamn ridiculous.
#70434
This troper doesn't get why people like butts. At all.
#70435
This Troper is a staff member of a role play site and has frequent MSN with fellow staff and members. I've had 4 people (3 women and 1 gay guy,) say that I look hot/cute, but I can't see what they're talking about because I think I look like a cow's ass thats been put through a meat tenderizer.
#70437
This is exactly how I feel about bad boys. I've heard so many people talk about how sexy and attractive bad boys are, but I don't see the appeal. I don't like jerkass people who cause unnecessary trouble. I prefer my guys to be big ole teddy bears that are cuddly and have a great sense of humor.
#70438
This troper, who was not allowed to look at much mainstream media when she was young, had a hard time figuring out why all those celebrities were attractive in her preteen years. Her tendency to find some people aesthetically pleasing when her peers thought they were hideous only made things worse. She still has issues determining whether or not someone is "sexy," but this may be because she is asexual.
