#67113
This troper named his trenchcoat Barbara several years ago, and his laptop is Jeremy. His old car was Joanne, the spirit of which is currently residing in his new car, Charlotte. His old wallet's name was Agatha (because she's old, frayed, and has screws loose dohoho) and his newer one is Shauntal. Currently deciding on a name for the 3DS.
#67114
This troper calls his car The Evangelion, Model 0x (EVA-0x for short). Ito don't stop here, since he calls his own house the MHHPP: Main Headquarters for the Humanity Preservation Plan). His old computer, his new computer, laptop, his Laptop and Notebook are called Melchior, Casper, Balthasar and Joseph, respectively.
#67115
This Troper's laptop is quiet, scared but beautiful, kicks my ass at chess, and non functional in socal settings (limited veiwing angle and lags with online multiplayer). Thus my woobie laptop is Hanako
#67116
This Troper has a fishing lure he calls Bessie, and his rods name is Ol' Creaky.
#67117
This Troper names all of her electronic devices. Thus, her laptop has been named Sebastian, her iPod Kanon, her phone Berry-tan, and her Kobo will receive a name in the near future. She calls her desktop POS.
#67118
This Troper has named his laptop Tardis. Because it makes strange grinding noises sometimes and is temperamental, occasionally requiring percussive maintenance.
#67119
A long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and my father was a teenager, his friend decided to name everything that could deserve a name after LordOfTheRings characters. The tradition has stood the test of time, comic through my generation. This computer is named Faramir. My iPod is named Pippin, and the external hard-drive is called Gimly. My father's computer is named Arwen. My step-mother's computer is named Merry(I think). There's also Grandma's Eowyn and the diseased, almost older than me Frodo. He fought bravely, but he was just too old.
#67120
This closet troper has one incredibly beaten-up shinai, an epee, and a pair of sai. Their names are Totei, Laubere, and collectively Evlogia, respectively. The first two are in made-up languages, and the latter is Greek; the names mean 'determination,' 'freedom,' and 'gift' or 'grace' respectively.
#67121
I named my airsoft rifle (which I got for an absolute bargain) Janet, don't know why just seemed to fit. Also, if your looking for an airsoft gun on a shoestring budget, do the research, read reviews, look up technical jargon, compare prices etc.
#67122
Boo, Faith, Hope, and Mercy (yes, the vertical foregrip on top is a joke). Mercy is a pretty name for a sawed-off shotgun (or AOW, to be precise).
#67123
This troper named his bass guitar Mio after the bassist in K-On!.
#67124
This troper has a bass guitar called Kashmere for no particular reason.
#67125
This troper named his bass guitar Sasha. Take a wild guess. He also owns a green acoustic guitar named Misha. This trend will likely continue.
#67126
Mio's owner here again! I've also got an acoustic bass named Miyako. All my basses will be named after anime characters beginning with Mi-. If I ever get a red bass, it will be called Midori just because.
#67127
This troper named her lime green i-pod George after George Luz of ''BandofBrothers'' fame.
#67128
This troper names his ''pencils.'' After ''anime.'' Names include "Excaliborg", "Gitah-Miko XXIII", "Hand of Haruhi, and, this troper's personal favorite... "Lucky Smash", a reference to Dokuro-chan, K-On, Haruhi, and Lucky Star, respectively. Gas powered weed trimmer named Buck.
#67129
This troper named her clarinet Cantus after the minstrel from Fraggle Rock and, not quite the same, named all her female puppet characters after song lyrics. (ex. Maggie-"Maggie May" by Rod Stewart or Delilah-"Hey There, Delilah" by the Plain White Tees)
#67130
This Troper named his M16 "Sasha" in honor of Heavy's gun in ''TeamFortress2''.
#67131
This troper's uncle named his "Guardian Angels" Jackelin and Shakira
#67132
This troper named his computer Stephen, his second computer Siege, even though it was much girlier, his two scarves Scruffy(full name The Scarf Unofficially Officially Unofficially Named Scruffy, Through A Rather Long Process Of Debate Over Whether Or Not The Scarf Should Actually Have A Name) and Scarlett, and his car the Amazing Technicolour Dreamvan.
#67133
This troper's boyfriend plays in a LARP group. One of his teammates plays an ogre with a big bloody spear capped off by an human skull. He calls it Betty and treats it like a girlfriend.
#67134
LARPer here too, and i've got a ton of those. Most everyone in my group has named their weapon, usually in some sort of poetic way. my swords (a falchion and a shortsword) are called Truth and Remorse (in my character's language), another character has dubbed his humungous halberd "Unstoppable storm of Eternity" (still in that language) then there's Turan (greatsword from a female warrior, named after her female ancestor and first-of-kin), the twin longswords Granfiamorte (Deathgrip) and Miserere, and the list may go on forever.
#67135
This troper's mother, upon witnessing this trope in a film, once asked him what the names of his guns are and was surprised when he told them that he doesn't name them.
#67136
This Troper has a katana which he named "Callandra".
#67137
This troper thinks that's awesome.
#67138
This little troper has named their new trike [[color:red:T-chan]].
#67139
This troper named his rifle Vera when he was in the army. He was pleasently surprised when his lieutenant cought the reference and quoted Firely back to him.
#67140
This troper has seen this during service, although mostly for laughs. There is quite a tendency to refer to weapons as females, though. And for a further example, he named his own personal weapon Noemi.
#67141
This troper, another servicemember, has named his weapon Vera. He swears it's coincidence.
#67142
This troper sadly does not yet have a gun, but does tend to name knives, pointy tools, household implements that can hold a point... always something suitably masculine, as she herself is female.
#67143
This editor named his Roomba "Dustman".
#67144
Sars named hers ''J. Alfred Proomba''.
#67145
This troper dubbed his M-O.
#67146
If they ever come out over in Britain, I too will call it M-O. Or Alfred.
#67147
This troper has sworn to herself that when she has her own place and owns one, she will call it BeetleBailey.
#67148
This troper's ''parents'' named her Ruby. And the pool cleaner is Scooby.
#67149
This troper, subscribing to the belief that a car is a weapon, named her trusty Volvo "Tank". She lives up to this name.
#67150
The 140 to the 940 series are pretty much indestructible, the 240 described as "Tank a la Sweden, not fast but terribly good to move things thats in the way, in questionable junctions it have the right to drive out first, did i mention the 940 turbo is easy as hell to overload the turbo?
#67151
According to this troper's friend, who is attending the US Naval Academy, this is required for all freshmen during the summer of training they get.
#67152
This troper has a friend who keeps a pair of (blunt) machetes in his car trunk called the "Choppy Bros.". Used primarily for opening cases of pop and threatening people who give plot spoilers about recent movies.
#67153
This troper has named most of his guns. Boo, Selene, Faith, Mjolnir, and Cream.
#67154
This troper refers to his Makarov as "The Mack".
#67155
No, Mack's a knife!
#67156
This troper often names her stuff after actors/singers/characters. Bruce(an Unbreakable cell phone, which fittingly came to an end when a friend pushed the troper and her phone into a lake), Syd(an iPod), Shaun(a cricket bat) and of course, Jules(Glock 22).
#67157
This troper named his computer Caliburn. Yep, after Excalibur (or not, depending on which Arthurian story you read).
#67158
After a lot of name switching his Troper has decided to currently name her computer Carashuka (Crasher) for its tendency to only get upgraded during a critical system failure i.e, Monitor black out, Disk failure, BSOD, etc. This Tropers Dad also calls his computer the Dark horse because its completely coated in black, i call it the Black Dragon for it being the biggest computer in the house.
#67159
ThisTroper decided to call his laptop Mr. Mackey. No prizes for guessing the brand...
#67160
And this other troper named his primary computer the Durandal (after Roland's sword). His cell phone is Ascalon, and various memory cards are named after knives or daggers (Llawfrodded, Farchawg, and Cinquedea, among others).
#67161
troper had a hard time deciding whether to name his PC "Pie Crust", "Piece of Crap", or "Pizza Cutter"...He went for "Pizza Cutter" as its Superheroine name, and "Lucy" as its ''real'' name. Screw that, this same troper has now upgraded his PC to insane, god-like specifications and has decided to rename his PC to ''Seraphim Lucille/Lucia''! [EvilLaugh] Her nickname is still Lucy, though...
#67162
This troper got tech of very specific colors. A white laptop, Supreme; a yellow external hard drive, Eternal; a red flash drive, Drone; and a blue printer, Strategist. All that remains is a new cell phone, which will be orange and named Scientist.
#67163
Any relation to this Lucy?
#67164
Nay. ThisTroper hasn't even watched/read that series! I named it after a certain sitcom character.
#67165
You could have named it after this Lucy and it would work.
#67166
Update: My PC now has ''two'' names depending on time of day. At day, she's still called Lucy, but at night, due to the blue light of the CPU, she goes through a GenderBender and he becomes ''Archon''. ("Power Overwhelming!")
#67167
This troper named his laptop Donkey Dong, because that's what it sucks, and it has since about a week after he got it. "Transkillmotron" is reserved for a model of PC that isn't made of ass and Mondays.
#67168
This tropers calls her computer "The Pandora box" because only her and the gods know how many horrors are inside of it.
#67169
This troper named his father's computer 'Pandora' because bad things always happen when I open that box...
#67170
That seems to be pretty common...
#67171
Maybe, but I came by it independently. :p
#67172
This troper has not named any of the weapons in her home, but has named her personal electronics. The iPod Nano is Lia (long story that probably wouldn't make any sense to anyone else anyway) while its successor iTouch has been dubbed Omni, the cell phone is Fonito (Spanish for "little phone", and the current one is the third to carry the name), the desktop computers are [=FrankenPuter=] (for the "piece here, bit there" upgrade style) and Vlad, and the laptop is currently known as Lurch (''TheAddamsFamily'' reference, natch). She's currently trying to figure out suitable names for her husband's Macintosh and for her GPS (naming husband's GPS might be nice, too).
#67173
This troper used to name his computers R2D2 after the most efficient system out there - no matter how many times you beat it, shot at it, etc. the titular robot NEVER died. When I got rid of the last one, I got a grey machine, and named it Gandalf the Grey. It died in a thunderstorm a couple years later, to be replaced with a white computer from the same company. He named the new machine "Gandalf the White".
#67174
This troper names her iPods. So far she's had Judas, Faust and... Schumacher. Her computer is named "Keith Richards" because of its behaviour - like an aging rock star, it only works when it wants to, it does things for absolutely no reason, it's often vulgar and takes a very long time to get anything done.
#67175
This troper thinks that's hilarious and wishes she'd thought of it. Perhaps her own (old, cantankerous) computer will pick up a rock star name...
#67176
How about Steven Tyler?
#67177
This troper names her iPods as well, as more or less everyone in her family does to tell them apart when plugged in. Her first iPod, a Mini, went through a course of names like Jill, Johannes and The Punisher, while her current iPod Video is either Albert or Alfred depending on whether her computer's being more of a Monte Cristo or more of a Krolock.
#67178
This troper named her first [=iPod=] Mini iKanda, but it kept being cranky at the worst possible times -- like the actual Kanda, funnily enough.
#67179
This troper is, for one, impressed that someone else on this site likes TanzDerVampire enough to name an iPod after a character from it. In spite of adding 98% of the Tanz references on this site, though, she herself hasn't named anything after characters from it. One of her iPods, however, is named Jareth the Goblin King for pure RuleOfCool reasons, and the other is named Amber Sweet because it has to be updated constantly and pitches a fit if it isn't. Her cell phone, meanwhile, was named The Houseplant, as she found herself having to threaten it into working properly, much like Crowley in GoodOmens has to threaten his houseplants to grow.
#67180
Now ''that'' is awesome. (On an unrelated and definitely TMI note, this troper wears a lot of sports bras, simply because she's annoyed by the clasps. She's finally found a normal bra that she can open with barely a flick of one hand and upon revealing this glorious fact with some excitement to her elder sister, got only a somewhat baffled response of 'wait, like a knife?' So it's now called Switchy. The removal of Switchy tends to be followed by a lot of references to a certain scene from The Doll's House set in a dark alleyway. And there is also a camcorder named Lestat, but that's only because it's beautiful but prone to aggravatingly ''moronic'' choices of action.)
#67181
The same troper with the Amber Sweet iPod also has two flash drives: Alfred (small, pink and easily jarred) and Cesare (very thin, black, and takes forever to "wake up" so she can use it).
#67182
The ''other'' troper above now has two laptops, one Mac named Sheldon and one PC named Sweeney. The reasoning being, Sweeney's a boxy black laptop with one white label, and is swift, subtle, and clean, while Sheldon is flashy and attractive but infuriatingly contrary, prone to overheating, and crippled by damage to its parts.
#67183
Suddenly, I feel a lot less uncomfortable about having named my X-Box 360 "Christine".
#67184
Guess you haven't read much Stephen King, then.
#67185
Oh, I have. Where do you think I got the name from? I named her that because of the sound the intercooler fan makes.
#67186
To chime in with all the tropers naming their computers, this troper's laptop earned the nickname "Lazarus" for surviving more close calls (including a tumble down the stairs, a reboot loop, and a busted Power Adapter Plug) than she can think of.
#67187
This troper names all his electronics after blind people. His desktop is Blind Tibetan Monk, his laptop is Zozimus (a blind Irish tour guide), his iPod is Stevie (Wonder), his thumbdrive is Homer (the poet) and his PDA is Helen (Keller). How's that for sticking to a theme?
#67188
This troper has named his laptop "Ms. Wednesday" and the porn folder in his computer "Sarah". Yeah.
#67189
This troper named his laptop Ada after Ada countess of Lovelace who wrote the very first "computer program".
#67190
My USB stick is called "Mr Spock".
#67191
My 2GB drive is "Serenity" and my 16GB drive is "Enterprise." I need a name for my laptop.
#67192
This guy named his Nintendo Wii "Wii Wullie", which is a G.M. Frasier pun. His trumpet is named "Honoria", his [=iPod=] "Whitey", his USB stick is "Edgar Jr." and his computer is "Compy".
#67193
I thought the names Katrina and Rex might make good names for children one day. My wife convinced me otherwise... so now they're the names of my PC and Laptop respectively.
#67194
This tropers computers are named Eve, Naru, Tamachan, Shinobu, and Kaolla-Su. Was on a bit of a Love Hina kick. Eve is slowly getting retired, alas...she was a good, solid box...have to get more hard drives in her and immortalize her as a file server.
#67195
This troper's laptop -- initially known as "Spot" -- was quietly renamed "Boomer" once its owner started watching New Battlestar, it being moody, unreliable, prone to blackouts, and frequently in need of replacements.
#67196
This troper named her computer I.Q., but always pronounced with a heavy Japanese accent, sometimes full-on "IQ-kun," "IQ-san," or "IQ no baka!" (Depending, of course, on whether or not it behaves itself.) It comes from an old inside joke between herself and a friend, about how nice it would be to have our computers become attractive, {{Fanservice}}-y robot men, like the {{Distaff Counterpart}}s of the {{Robot Girl}}s commonly seen in anime.
#67197
This troper loaned his flash drive to a friend. He didn't have a name on it before, but it came back with the name "High Charity," from {{Halo}}. Also, his best friend named her black and silver alto saxophone "Jet," while another friend named her bass clarinet "Giovanni." As a matter of fact, lots of band kids tend to name their instruments...
#67198
Seconded. This troper's old clarinet (he hasn't named the newer one yet) is called Dalton, after Dalton's atomic theory. Both the clarinet and the theory are old, outdated, and a bit broken, but durable and still useful (the theory for teaching introductory atomic chemistry, and the instrument for playing outside).
#67199
This troper's computer is named "CC", which originally stood for "Cammy's Computer" but eventually became "CompanionCube", and her laptop is HAL. Her iPod is R2-D2. (Update: HAL died, but I have a new laptop now. Its name is GLaDOS.)
#67200
Ditto on the HAL. This troper then named his iPod SAL
#67201
This troper calls his computer HAL too, although that was mostly after it tried to murder him on multiple occasions. Those corners on the case are sharp.
#67202
Hence why my 486 (used for storing MP3s, doesn't play them well) is named Caltrop. I tripped over the darn thing often enough until I found a purpose for it.
#67203
My iPod's name is Batman. Perhaps I should name the cable that connects it to my computer "The Joker"; after all, the iPod completes it.
#67204
Laptop is Sadie (girlfriend's choice, since it's hers). Desktop is Rapunzel (because it's a tower). [=IPod=] is Myself (it's a Touch). Sourdough starter is Jean-Paul. Probably just as well neither of us can drive.
#67205
So far this troper has had two iPods, Crowley and Harry. She has also named her vacuum cleaner "Kristen".
#67206
This troper have a 3 computer network in his home (main desktop, another connected in the home theater, and a notebook). He named it AM. This troper also named his car Dinomovel (or Dinomobile, in english) and have a sword he named Slash.
#67207
This troper named her computer Uther Pendragon because she's a nerd like that. Her sister has named all her cars: she has owned the Crapmobile, Fred, Beeper, and Mercedes.
#67208
And this page inspired her to name her flash drive Excalibur and her soon-to-be-purchased iPod Gawain.
#67209
This troper introduces you to Frankenputer. It is literally held together with duct tape.
#67210
OK, beats my [=FrankenPuter=] (see above).
#67211
My iPod is called "Das üPod, doch!". My USB drive is called "Spetsnaz V" (4 GB, after going through 128, 256, 1024 and 2048 MB), my computer is called "Blackbox II", my phone is "Telemark-7". But the best one is my car, a Pontiac Sunfire. Since good parking room is at a very, very great premium in college, I always used to park ''very'' far away from my classrooms, and in Mexico, when you say "it's fucking far away", you say "está hasta la verga", which literally means "it's all the way near the dick". After a semester of never getting good parking, a friend of mine ended up calling my ride "The Big Dick" :D
#67212
Current name for the Sunfire is "Kakhaber", after soccer team AC Milan defender Kakhaber Kaladze.
#67213
On a side note, I also tend to name my school projects. My CPLD from digital electronics, for example, was called "Altered Beast" because it was made by Altera. The radio transceiver we used for digital communications used the Simple Media Access Control (S.M.A.C.) protocol, and since understanding it was quite annoying, we called it "Miriam Godwinson". Our switches for LAN networks were called "TV-kun" and "Cantildo". Using Main/FunWithAcronyms, my error correction project for data transmission was called "Hamming Algorithm Recovery Unit for Harnessing Information" (H.A.R.U.H.I.) and my DNS server was called "And Yet Another Name-Address Mapping Index" (A.Y.A.N.A.M.I.).
#67214
This Troper made the questionable choice of naming his laptop Lain.
#67215
This troper's new laptop is Archeopteryx (Archie for short); previous computers have been Compy (old laptop, after the procompsognathus in 'Jurassic Park', as it was small, ancient, and rather stupid) and T-rex (family PC, as it is large, ancient and rather stupid). Future computers will probably follow this naming pattern and be named after other extinct birds or dinosaurs.
#67216
Yat another troper has named his computer Gurren. But wait, it gets better. The flashdrive? It's named Lagann.
#67217
This Troper mentally refers to all his gaming consoles as it's name followed by "-kun" (None of my consoles are girls. That would be too weird), though I never call them that out loud. I also refer to my computer regularly as a "piece of crap", enough to warrant it being a name. The system's actual name is HAL, though. Probably why it hates me so much, even if my name isn't "Dave".
#67218
This troper thinks that one of the cool things about being a manager is getting to name an entire lab full of computers at once. The most recent department had its machines named after the members of Chor Tempest from ''{{Simoun}}'', with "Tempus" and "Spatium" as the workgroup servers.
#67219
On this note, the FTP server at the ITESO in Guadalajara is called "Mordor", because it's very damn secure and "one does not simply walk into Mordor"; the backup DNS server, meanwhile, is called "Che Guevara".
#67220
Lizzan (computer), Ptasha Selver (mobile), Wyrdling through Wyrdling III (mp3 players), Falconette (newer computer), Rayne (notebook), Mina (bass, short for Mina Rakastan Sinue), the list goes on...
#67221
This troper originally planned to go with a naming schene of hoverships from TheMatrix. The first computer he bought was Nebuchadnezzar, and his nonfunctional laptop is Logos. However, he picked up his newer computer after seeing TengenToppaGurrenLagann, so the new one is Dai-Gurren.
#67222
This troper has named all his computers consistently. The laptops he got during college were Mireille and Kirika (ironically, the latter eventually failed due to memory problems). His work laptop is Kagura. His first desktop machine was Seras, and the current one is Kana. He doubts, however, that he will ever own a machine awesome enough to be called Motoko.
#67223
This troper loves to listen to music and watch TV shows on his Einpod
#67224
This troper named his iPod "Christine" (the Stephen King novel was sitting on the computer he first formatted the iPod on), and his laptops have been "Nadia" (from The Secret of Blue Water, because she drowned in a sprinkler-related accident), "Sylvia" (because it was quite the wild beast to lug around), "Svetlana" (because at least two of the parts were manufactured in Russia and she first booted up in Cyrillic), and "Jane," because a female friend had the same reaction to the name as to this troper switching to Macintosh. His printer is "Grimhild" (because it's a big squarey thing and he thought it deserved a nice Old Norse name), his PS2 is "Wilhelmina," because she's been regal and noble through the wars and never failed once, and his Xbox 360, especially after it went brick, is "Dolores" (hint: Spanish for ''pain'').
#67225
This troper's laptop is called Mio, after the Masoukishin pilot from SuperRobotWars, cos it's hyperactive and an otaku. Her datastick is named Veda after the supercomputer from {{Gundam00}} and her external is called Kyrios
#67226
This troper has Gundam00 related names too, Veda is my wi-fi network's name, my very ancient iMac is named Mihael, (because it's a ''bitch''), my iPod is Throne Zwei (fitting as it is my second one), my Xbox 360 is named Lockon (I use it for FPS's I love it so...), my Wii is Setsuna, My PS2 is Ruido Resonance (from 00P, the prequel to 00 Ruido pilots th Exia's predecessor the Astrea), and my Laptop's Allelujah and Hallelujah (I dual-boot ubuntu on it, Alle is the ubuntu, Halle is the XP). I'm getting a PC for gaming, its name, Ali. don't get me started on their AI's names... (which are non-gundam-y and mostly feminine.)
#67227
This troper's laptop is named Little Bastard because anyone who uses it will encounter an error tailor made for them, be it one of the keys needed to type a password not working or a program simply not working if the user has been making fun of it for being such a bad laptop. It performs well above its supposed specs though. It has also been called Death Destroyer of Networks as it disables networks it connects to for no discernible reason.
#67228
Upon getting an aluminum-cased [=PowerBook=], this troper named it Alphonse. He recently upgraded to a newer 13-inch [=MacBook=], which, naturally, he named Edward.
#67229
This Troper named her first laptop (sold on) Caligula, her second laptop (used right now) Archangel, her iPod Desperado, and is planning to call her next computer/ laptop Morningstar.
#67230
This Troper doesn't name his computers, but he does name his hard drives: Mirkwood, Osgiliath, and Moria.
#67231
Da_Nuke bought an Acer Aspire One, a.k.a. "Skyrail", after a gun from ''{{Freelancer}}''. Currently considering renaming it "Kenny" or "Hyatt" because it's one of those early models with a BIOS that dies and is revived as often as Kenny from ''Main/SouthPark'' or Hyatt from ''Main/ExcelSaga''.
#67232
This Tropette doesn't have a computer or a laptop of her own, just the ones everyone on the house uses. However, she already has the names: Ton-ton for the computer, Pero-pero for the laptop. No, not because of those animes. A friend of hers HAD A DREAM where, among a lot of other things, she had named them that way. . [Btw, according to the dream, the computer was to be Ten-ten. But she prefers the cute pink piggy, not the annoying semi-useless girl.]
#67233
This Troper has named his new computer "shit on toast." It runs Win 2000 and gets hot really quickly.
#67234
This troper decided to name his current computer, as well as retroactively name his previous two. In order of when I had them, they are now Xan, Malcolm, and Gorge. I tried naming all the accessories too, but other than Keyes the flash drive and Floyd the headset, I keep forgetting what I named them.
#67235
SonicGTR: I am in charge of the [=WiFi=] at my house. My PC is named {{Ikaruga}}, my printer is Ginkei, my brother's PC is Silvergun, his Droid and Zune are Gunstar Red and Blue and my mom's laptop is Hibachi.
#67236
This Troper has named his current computer Jayne Gatsby due it being a Gateway, the troper's sister having just bought him a copy of the book, and cause dude that's a pretty good portmanteau. He's named his older computer "M" because like a Judi Dench character she's old, you can't negotiate with her, she only helps when she wants to, and he has the utmost respect for her. He has also named his USB drive sharpie because it's on a keychain along with some sharpies.
#67237
My laptop is either known as The Lappy or Al Blu, which inspired an idea for a story about a guy who can give human form to sophisticated-enough electronics. I tend to use "Lappy" more often, though, out of fear of strange looks from friends - not from my naming the laptop, you understand, but from the out-of-nowhere name I came up with.
#67238
I also happen to have a wooden katana (not a bokken, though) I call Chaos Edge - it happens to be black with red-and-black cloth wrapping the grip, and splits into two blades. In addition, my dad got me a bokken wakizashi (is that the way you'd put it?) on his trip to Japan, and I've dubbed it Kurohime.
#67239
This troper went through a bit o' reorganizing, and now calls one pair of drumsticks Johnny & Jenny, another pair Rocky & Bullwinkle, and the third pair The Righteous Bros., as well as calling his harmonica Beatrice, his recorder Mary (as "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is the only song he remembers) and his mallet Judge.
#67240
This troper names his euphoniums: the first one was called Boris, and when he got his own, it was christened Archibald.
#67241
This troper names all of his inanimate objects- from his guitar named "Siobhan Tieranie" to his external Hard Drives "Little Moses" and "Big Jesus".
#67242
This troper named her M16 in basic training after our DS made us. The weapon was named "Bang," from the sound made when it was …dropped when she tripped while carrying during runs to the PT field. Has not named a weapon since, but in relation to having the weapon at a moment's notice even from sleep, has slept with her rifle on exercises. Very uncomfortable, but keeps it from being stolen.
#67243
You know, when you're sleeping on a canvas sheet on bumpy, rocky ground, with only rolled-up webbing for a pillow, the M16 starts to feel a ''lot'' cuddlier. Apart from the fact that the sergeant will steal it if you're not hugging it (even if you ARE, particularly sadistic ones will attempt to unscrew the flash suppressor and make off with it). This troper named his Sarah. No particular reason.
#67244
This troper chose "Bad Karma". Asked why, I replied: "If I have to shoot someone, they brought it on themselves. I am the agent of bad karma."
#67245
Recite ''The Rifleman's Creed'' and just ''try'' not to name your weapon: #QUOTE#This is my rifle. There are many like it but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I master my life. My rifle, without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than any enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will… #QUOTE#My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit… #QUOTE#My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weakness, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will… #QUOTE#Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but Peace.
#67246
This troper named her sewing machine "Stella", after both Stella Telmes from ''Tales of Legendia'' AND Stella Kowalski from ''A Streetcar Named Desire''. It's probably fairly obvious what this troper does whenever the machine jams up.
#67247
This troper knows a guy whose Cadillac is named Juliet.
#67248
This troper named his vehicle "Cher" after it had been rear-ended for the second time. She's had a little bodywork you see..
#67249
This troper named her VW Rabbit Hazel in homage to {{Watership Down}}, despite suggestions from family members to refer to it as "Buggs" or "Bun Bun". Hazel still gets "follow the white rabbit jokes", though (it's a white car, you see...)
#67250
This troper has 2 of these. I call my laptop Scully and, in the most prevalent, I, and everyone else in my family, calls my GPS Hermione, as it speaks with a British accent and knows everything.
#67251
Whereas this troper named his Gladys.
#67252
This troper's mother has a garden with statues and fountains shaped like people, all of which have been named. This troper had the honor of inspiring the name of the boy pouring out a jug of water when she mentioned he was "the waterboy." Mom subsequently named him Adam.
#67253
This troper names pretty much everydamnthing she uses often enough that it starts to develop a personality (''except'' her computer and her gun, oddly enough): the flute (Marie), the piccolo (Pickett), and hell, even her favorite ''pen'' (Grace). And anyone who's experienced one of her truck's "possessed" moments will get why she ended up getting named Regan. %comment% Do we need a 'go back' link? The blue icon at the top and bottom of the page already does that. %comment% Let's try both for awhile. The icons are new enough that we don't have an idea that everybody will make the connection.
#67254
This troper's friend had a laptop he calls "Starfire", and probably would've named it Robin if it was red.
#67255
This troper's family names their minivans (the car also had a name at one point, but it never gets called anything besides "the car" anymore): the late Minnie, which was made in 1989 and a shade of blue almost unique in modern times, and Oddy (which is both a short form of "Odyssey" and taken from an adorably strange owl at the local owl habitat) =, which was so named for quirks such as being stubborn about opening the left-hand passenger door.
#67256
This troper calls her Laptop Leto (of ''{{Dune}}'' fame, though it hasn't become a sandworm yet) likewise her cars have been Usagi (a Toyota Rav4, who for some reason reminded her of the titular SailorMoon) and Hotaru (after a character from the same series, which is... wait for it... a Saturn).
#67257
This troper owns a laptop named John Adams. Why yes, he ''is'' obnoxious and disliked.
#67258
This troper called his Game Boy Advance "Old Ironsides." His GBASP is "New Ironsides" and his GBASP2 (the one with an honest-to-goodness backlight) "New''er'' Ironsides." Interestingly enough, he never got around to calling his DS anything yet...-
#67259
This troper has named every computer she’s ever owned, as have her parents (most notable among these is “Pooh, the computer of small brain). She also tends to refer to the meat tenderizer in the kitchen as Mjollnir and the office printer as Audrey, and successfully convinced a friend to name her sax Murphy.
#67260
This troper's RPG characters love this trope. So far, a huge custom-made pickup named The Beast (after a schoolfriend's tiny little Renault 5 named the same thing), a Ducati named Nicole and treated almost like another character by the owner, and various NPC snipers who treat their rifles like girlfriends or children at all times.
#67261
This troper's brother had a 1970-something Chrysler LeBaron that the family named "La Bamba." Eventually this was modified to "La Bomb-ba" when the car developed the unfortunate habits of not working and steadfastly refusing any attempts to make it run.
#67262
This troper does this fairly frequently:
#67263
Her car is called TheBigO, though people think the significance of the name is different, IfYouKnowWhatIMean.
#67264
Her first computer was called Frank, because it was built from scratch.
#67265
Her second computer was called Lorelai, because of its siren song that distracted from all else.
#67266
When the second computer died and was recreated with a new operating system, she named it Lazarus.
#67267
Her laptop was called Lorelai Jr, for the same reason.
#67268
Her third computer is called Charlie.
#67269
Her Flash Drive is called Flash. Yes, she is a paronomasiac.
#67270
This troper has decided to call his computer Mainframe.
#67271
This troper has yet to successfully name her pocketknife or computer, but her purse is "Pursephone," her mother's purse "Pursival," her friend's "Purseus," and the can of cooking spray in the pantry is called "Pamela."
#67272
My computer's name is Asp Altair. Honored, it's sure.
#67273
My old computer was Makoto; sadly, it suffered an untimely death by glass of milk. My new computer is Michiru, my second monitor is Setsuna, my microphone Minto and my mouse (also dead) Anise; no links as each is named after two characters from different series.
#67274
This troper's Volvo had a starting problem a while back that was eventually traced to the central computer. Afterward he couldn't resist naming it Silent Cal, because, like President Coolidge in 1928, it ''did not choose to run''.
#67275
This troper has a walking stick he calls "HeadThumper"
#67276
This troper called her first ever memory stick Mr. Squigy. When it got lost, the next one became Squigy Jr. When ''that'' got lost, then came [=SquigyTheThird=] (called [=SquigyThird=] on the computer). Her friend called ''her'' memory stick [=MagicStick=] after finding out about Mr. Squigy and another friend called ''his'' memory stick Little {{Kirby}}.
#67277
This particular troper has taken to referring to the knives in the fish department he works at Rena, Shion and Rika. Rena's the big one.
#67278
He also named his laptop C.C.
#67279
This troper has a katana on his mantelpiece named "Snakeslayer," 'cos it has a snakeskin grip and was purchased the weekend ''SnakesOnAPlane'' came out in theatres. More interesting than that is his wireless network, "Tetragrammaton," his server "Metatron," and his laptop "Sammael."
#67280
This troper's entire family is in on it - the dogs (as well as myself!) are named after characters in the book {{Dune}}(pups are Alia and Leto, I'm Jessica), the 20+ year old truck is Gertrude and the motorcycle is Easy Rider, the desktop computer is iCrash, my iPod is PocketJukebox, this laptop is named Octopus Prime for all the cords and add-ons, and my brother's laptop is GLaDOS.
#67281
This troper does it a bit himself.
#67282
Car: Quicksilver. Because gray is lame.
#67283
PC: Delta Floe. Named after a city in this troper's WIP novel.
#67284
Laptop: Ragaros. See above.
#67285
Green Folder: Spanky.
#67286
Red Folder: Leopold. (It should be noted that Spanky and Leopold are brothers. Spanky is the elder of the two.)
#67287
This troper has a turquoise iPod named Demyx (who she constantly loses track of, which is cause for much grief), a pink camera named Aerith, and her faithful patchwork-leather bag is rapidly starting to be called Mark after the RENT character, as she wears it the same way he does. Plus, her parakeets are Squall, Cloud, and Tifa. They are very much in a love triangle, with a fair amount of fighting over Tifa. ...And ''with'' Tifa, in Squall's case.
#67288
One of this troper's family's cars is named the Red Pearl. (Yes, that's a pun on the Black Pearl, because ours is red.) Her (female) computer is "Melyanna" which means "gift" in Elvish (because it was last year's birthday gift), and her iPod was named Aerlinn until it survived close contact with water and being dropped onto hard floors multiple times. Now its name is Tony Stark.
#67289
Damn it, your iPod is ''awesome''. Mine used to be Joy, and then it failed spectacularly in every way imaginable...
#67290
...and now that I've gone and named it after a son of Emma Frost, it's started ''acting like one''. I should've known better.
#67291
This troper named his girlfriend's favorite bra Signum.
#67292
This troper found stickers in her house that had a leathery texture and lettering in gold paint. So she stuck them on all her tech and started calling them by names. The laptop, when it's not "Damned STUPID COMPUTER" is "Why not?", the mouse is "Thanks", the cell phone is "Magical"... there were some others, but she can't find them. Except for "Why not?" they don't fit all that well, but hey.
#67293
This Troper has named a knife passed down from his grandfather "Panther". Of course, it helps that it's carved into the side...
#67294
This troper named a knife passed down from his uncle "Cat Skinner" for the same reason. How coincidential.
#67295
This troper has renamed his iPod shuffle ''every time he syncs it'', from just "CKY's iPod" to such gems as "Sound Shuffle", "Star Shuffle", "Shock Shuffle" and currently "Zap Zap".
#67296
This Troper pulled off the same thing with his iPod Video. It was ipo, R_Pod, and even Kyon. It's now called "iBrick", with its new ally, "iPill" the iPod Nano.
#67297
Update: Now my laptop is Kyoko-tan and my phone is Yuki-tan.
#67298
This Troper has a wakizashi named Arthur (as in King) and a katana named Alexander (as in The Great).
#67299
This soon-to-be-troper (where do I sign up?) finally broke from a boring standard nomenclature and decided to call his laptop Syme, after the protagonist in The Man Who Was Thursday. This provides a fountain of gems for MOTDs and such.
#67300
This Troper named his ''desktop'' Thursday, although it's admittedly a dual reference to Chesterton and ThursdayNext. His laptop is Alice.
#67301
This troper uses a ''SkiesOfArcadia'' theme for his computer parts. My first laptop was named Fina, while a corresponding external hard drive I used for storage was called Cupil. When I bought a replacement laptop, I called it the Delphinus.
#67302
This troper's names for things:
#67303
Civic Hybrid: The Failmobile, after the backlash against hybrid cars and how they're not as good as they're said to be.
#67304
Laptop: Vic Viper T-301 (before "downgrade" from Vista to XP), Metalion (after "downgrade").
#67305
This troper's three trombones are named Skippy, Edward, and Sebastian. Her trombone bucket mute is named Bob and her cup mute is named Kiefer (despite the fact that she despises Kiefer Sutherland and ''24'' with a passion). Her iPod is named Alonzo (named before discovering "Alons'y, Alonzo!"
#67306
This troper calls his laptop "Omoikane" (after the computer in Successor Nadesico. His Nintendo DS (not a DS Lite) is named "Val" after the Allied reporting name for Japan's D3A dive bomber: somewhat obsolete with its fixed landing gear, but a very good plane that was stable and easy to control in a dive and a competent fighter to boot. His TI-83 calculator is Yuki Nagato, and his cell phone is Patchouli Knowledge.
#67307
After Omoikane died, his replacement laptop was named Sora (from Ever17). Patchouli got stolen, and her replacement was named Emiri Kimidori. And finally, he bought three external hard drives and named them Yuno, Miyako, and Sae.
#67308
This troper's father named his first car "Rocinante." At the moment, this troper has a bicycle that goes by that name. If a car comes into his life that is deemed worthy, she will inherit the title.
#67309
This Troper has named (And sometimes Knights) all of her electronic devices. Soren (a Wii), Do-dangle,(an Mp3 player), ROFL (a cell Phone) and Sir Percivel (a Radio) are some examples. The affection could be Genuine...or not
#67310
This troper has a character in {{City Of Villains}} who is a gadgeteer type (Rad/Traps Corruptor). She often refers to the portable Force Field Generator as "Mr. Bubbles" for obvious reasons and has done so long before Bioshock came out.
#67311
This troper's brother named his umbrella Lucifer. No, really.
#67312
This troper feels like she has found her people, after reading this page. Her car is called Tom Sawyer, for the perfectly logical reason that "he looks like one." Additionally, she's convinced that all of the equipment in her office at work is evil, and she has therefore named the different machines after fictional villains. The folding machine is Lord Foldemort, the small-run copier is Duplex Luthor, and the large-run copier is Canondorf.
#67313
This troper has come to an arrangement with a friend where they name their old computers with random, funny nicknames and any new ones after astronomic bodies - stars in my case, moons for him. Thus, my iMac is Deneb (white supergiant), my Eee PC is 40 Eridani B (Eri for short, coincidently also the home system of the Vulcans), his Mac Mini is Luna and ''his'' Eee is Deimos (or, JustForPun, Deeeimos). I've got Linus and Lucy (a Linux box and an old Mac LC, respectively) which sit around with the Craptop (8 years old, has been without a working battery for about 7). He's got a BBC Master called Ainley alongside Ao, Midori and Amber (named for the colour of their power lights, as well as Amber being an Ancient-Greek-related pun on it being a BBC Electron).
#67314
This troper has come to call his car 40000}} Russ.
#67315
This troper bought a mug from Daytona Beach and calls it his "Mug of Incredible Greeness" or Greenie for short.
#67316
This troper names everything. Her iPod is Stephen, her mobile phone is Jon, her laptop is Lucky and she used to have a pen named Steve. The names usually have a connection to a fictional character, involving some very strange reasoning, a HurricaneOfPuns or both. For the mp3 player named after Alan Shore, it was definitely both. The desktop computer named Lennie made much more sense.
#67317
This Troper's father used to name his cars; in the early 70s he had a VW wagon named in homage to the car in ''SpeedRacer'': Mox Nix.
#67318
This Troper named her swords Nathaniel, Miyamoto and Isla. She collects them.
#67319
Update! Her new claymore has been named Caliburn.
#67320
This troper's family has named their riding mower 'Pepe' after the monster truck from Romancing the Stone.
#67321
This troper's current car is often referred to as ''Miss Daisy.'' My previous car, a 1997 Saturn [=SL-1=], was named ''Mimas''. I'm often known for punmanship...
#67322
This troper's laptop is named SHODAN.
#67323
This troper would have named his AG-3 "Stupid Argument", if he hadn't been given conscientous objector status before spilling his blood on it - the prerequisite, creepily enough, in the Norwegian army.
#67324
This troper thought all the tropers above were crazy. Then he realized that he's given a custom name to all of his flash drives. And they're all named after ''himself''.
#67325
This troper enjoys naming inanimate objects. Her flash drive is Glory, her oboe is Bobo, and her car, a 1991 Subaru with strangulation-prone automatic seatbelts, is named Christine. She also has a friend who named her clarinet Clarrie, and her car The Porn Machine for no apparent reason. (Then again, said friend wants David Bowie to have her babies and has a naked Ken doll dangling in a pair of fuzzy handcuffs from her rearview mirror...)
#67326
This troper's grandfather owns a large plastic model of a dog, which was originally used as a charity collection box for blind people. He calls it "Murgatroyd", keeps a lead and collar for it and talks to it as if it were a real pet.
#67327
This Troper, after TV Tropes ruined his life, has named his two binders. One is white and contains papers on all one subject. The other is black and has a collection of subjects and papers. Thus, they have been dubbed SaltAndPepper.
#67328
This troper has named quite a few of his personal items, not limited to:
#67329
All of his guitars (Smokey, Axel, Cassandra, and Merlin).
#67330
His mandolin (Mandy, natch).
#67331
His iPod, The Monolith, so named because it's black, imposing, and rectangular.
#67332
His favorite straight razor (Nick).
#67333
His laptop is known as the Crushinator, as it's an older-model Toughbook 52. It earned its appellation by virtue of dropping almost a meter onto a friend's foot and breaking two of his toes. Crushinator survived intact.
#67334
His knives (folding-blade pocketknife: Little Mac; fixed-blade hunting knife: Big Mac).
#67335
This troper plans on naming his first car "Car".
#67336
This troper named his laptop 'Lappy'. And various schoolbooks throughout history have, for reasons that no one will likely ever know, been dubbed 'Mendez'.
#67337
ThisTroper's family names their cars. They are (and were) Snowball, Fireball, Blueberry, and Blue Flame. Guess what color each is.
#67338
This Troper has a computer named Jerky and a number of sketchbooks called Bookie.
#67339
This tropers laptop is named Velma, and is at times referred to as The Companion Cube. He has also names his nerf guns (love'em)Shoota, Dakka, and Moar Dakka.
#67340
Dakka has since been renamed The Samaritan.
#67341
This troper has had computers named Galileo and Leonardo (which have been continually upgraded piece by piece since the beginning of time), [=GLaDOS=] (which has also previously spent time as the Serial Peacemaker and is probably due for another name change soon), and Godot.
#67342
This troper has a desktop Mac called "Big Mac" and a [=MacBook=] called "Happy Meal"
#67343
This Troper named his new motorcycle "Robert," after Patrick, who rode a similar motorcycle as the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
#67344
ThisTroper has the somewhat more appropriate "Zantetsuken", which is a switchblade.
#67345
This troper names everything. The primary computer is named Elise ( Beethoven ), with hard drive partitions Tramontana (Mediterranean north wind), Meltemi (Turkish etesians;, mind the username), Chinook (Alaskan wind), Levantera (Adriatic east wind), and Garigliano (same as Tramontana, and a back-up partition for the same). The USB flash drive is named Etesiae (Latin etesians), and the new MP3 player Austra (Romanian austru). Before the massive ThemeNaming reflected above, the secondary computer received the name Tsunami (obvious source) in childhood and kept it, and the old MP3 player was named Liana (for the flowering vines) before it suddenly failed. The butcher knife isn't really named Lorena, technically speaking, but it does tend to get called that when it gets brought up in context, and the machete (Sunday school gift) remained unnamed due to a quick confiscation by very surprised parents.
#67346
This troper, an equestrian, named her lunge whip "Vicky" after her first trainer...
#67347
This troper namer his iPod iAmThatIAm, but the best name ever was taken by a friend of his: iClaudius.
#67348
This troper has a friend, who names each and every belonging of his "Johnny".I only named my mus. instrument (a Casio CTK-691) so far...(It's called Steve after the father of Iron Maiden)
#67349
This troper's french teacher named his computer "Pandora's Box" (even renaming his My Computer icon accordingly), and refers to the very crappy "StudyWiz" program we're forced to use as "StudyWheeze", because he claims that's the noise people make when they have to log in.
#67350
This troper loves to name his personal and expensive stuff, like his beloved Eurotrash (so named because it's a '93 Lumina Euro).
#67351
This troper has named all technology after Poe characters (Laptop=Madeleine, External Harddrive=Roderick, Ipod=Annabelle Lee, Camera=Lenore, Flash Drive=Montressor). Her cousin named all of her tech after Carroll characters.
#67352
This Troper likes to be creative when naming her Gummiships on ''KingdomHearts II'', but is especially proud of her Teeny Ship Lilith, which is small and can kill pretty much anything.
#67353
This troper is merely adding to an already full list, because that's the kind of guy he is: Laptop is Compy (seems to be a theme, but we didn't have these [=GLaDOS=] and Lain when he was growing up, and dammit, Compy was creative in the early '90s!), desktop is Arkista (he will marry the first girl who gets the reference) and his butterfly knife is unnamed for now, but Jayne is looking mighty likely, if the M1911 is not purchased soon. Also, a cell phone named HAL, and a Bowie knife named David.
#67354
This troper named his new compact vacuum cleaner Hoover-tan. He also refers to his high-powered microwave oven as a Microwavemotion Gun, or Micro-chan for short.
#67355
This troper's family had four iPods at one point: one black one, one blue one, one pink one, and one with an orange skin on it. It wasn't long before somebody decided to name them, respectively, Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde.
#67356
This troper's laptop's name is Cheryl. Her previous one was named Alessa after it died in a fire.
#67357
For some reason, RadioactiveZombie named his laptop, literally (yes, it's an option in XP), Mister Anderson.
#67358
This troper is trying to come up with clever names for several of her most prized possessions. Her mp3 player will either be Joshua (due to it being silver and having a habit of playing songs she thinks about) or Haruhi (because on occasion it gets into certain "music moods" where it plays songs from a certain series or game), but it's still up in the air. Her DS might be named Soul, since it's red and black, while her brand new computer is leaning on Ichi-tan for no particular reason other than it's all black. Her older mp3 player has officially been deemed Queenie, because it's filled to the brim with nothing but Queen. Her two flash drives might be named Hikaru and Kaoru, but like the silver mp3 player, it's still up in the air.
#67359
Recently named her external hard drive GLaDOS, her laptop's been nicknamed Kyon, and the white flash drive is now deemed Shiro-chan. Still deciding on the other ones.
#67360
This troper tends to name his items after celestial bodies or stuff relating to said bodies. He calls his new DS Lite Luna (since it's the silver one), for some reason calls his new flash drive Tournesol (aka Sunflower), or Otenko on occasion, due to its color scheme, his backpack is Terra, since it's often so heavy, he must put it on the ground every few minutes or risk back damage. In a subversion of his own naming scheme, he named his PS2 Alice Margatroid and his laptop Utsuho Reiuji, the latter because it often gets ''really'' hot, even with an outside cooling system, among other things. Nuke bullets from the originating character help, too.
#67361
And this troper called his old laptop Kanako in reference (and parody) to the 'YuYu Co.' computers in some Walfas flash animations. (Quite coincidental that I named my laptop in the same theme as the troper directly above: 6th-stage bosses.) However, now it's fallen down to Rumia status (The monitor's backlight failed, and you can barely see anything on the screen.) The replacement has yet to be named. I would mention my the names I gave my RP characters' weapons, but I don't thing anyone had done so yet, and that this doesn't seem like the right place.
#67362
Along with naming the knife at work Yellowblade, ea also named his Halo 2 Spartan Samuel-034 after the first Spartan to die in combat.
#67363
Various other kitchen implements at work have become known as Sawtooth (serrated knife, frequently Between The Teeth) Thing One and Two (deep fryers) Nico (The brand of the grill) and DukeNukem (The hot-storage)
#67364
And the 6 Halo 3 Spartans after Blue Team, past and present.
#67365
So that'd be: Flowers, Tucker, Church, Caboose, Tex, and Sister.
#67366
The ''other'' Blue Team. John-117, Sam-034, Linda-058, etc.
#67367
This troper has thus far named only two things of note: her Gibson acoustic guitar is named Geordan, and her current old crappy 2gig iPod nano is named 144 75 (it wouldn't let her put a decimal point). Someday, should she ever get a laptop computer of her very own (the one she uses now was stolen from her husband in responser to his laying claim to the desktop), she plans to name it Hermes.
#67368
This Troper's family has the habit of naming their cars, typically using the model as a surname. He also has a habbit of naming his appliances "Jimmy". In a slightly straiter example I call my penknife Bearach, an old Irish name for "sharp".
#67369
This Troper named his laptop Durandal. Yes, after That Durandal. This troper knows nothing about hacking, though, so the chances of Durandal being used as a weapon are quite slim, for now.
#67370
This troper has a desktop called Becky, a laptop called Amy, and a WLAN modem called Shaitan.
#67371
This troper has named all of his flash drives after various pirates; for the reason you're probably guessing. Anne Bonny, Mary Read and Edward Teach. My first DVD burner, an old external model, was named Blackbeard, starting the tradition. My 250 GB portable drive was named Tharsis as a reference to something I can no longer remember, but it feels wrong to rename it without formatting it and I don't want to do that.
#67372
The servers for this very wiki are named after Korean mythological gods (shin, hwa, cheon, seol, min, dam, etc.), because ... well, because we are just that geeky-y.
#67373
This Troper has named her new printer/scanner/photocopier HAL. Her desktop computer was subsequently rechristened Dave.
#67374
Same troper again. Naming objects has become a habit: since posting the above, I have now named my keyboard - the musical kind, not the one attatched to the computer - Shirley (my mum suggested it) and have aquired a laptop named Helix and a Nintendo DS that I christened Nindy. The USB sticks and the mobile phone remain unnamed.
#67375
This troper has named her laptop Dukat, because it is a bastard that frequently does things she wasn't expecting and didn't want, but can be very nice/charming/entertaining in the right mood...and Vista possesses it like a pah-wraith. Thus, the main computer it's networked to has been named Weyoun...because they're supposed to cooperate but don't, and it keeps dying on us.
#67376
This troper has named her old ipod mini "Pandora's box" because only the gods know which kind of abominations were stored there. (actually just some music... like Courtney love...) and her new Ipod classic was named "Toy box of Doom!!!" because everything is better with Doom!!! at the end.
#67377
This Troper has named his PC Niddler, because it functions as comic relief and a foil to the true star of the show, my laptop, Ioz. He really liked Pirates of Dark Water when he was younger.
#67378
This troper's dubbed her iPod iMenardi the MiniPod, her DS IronWoman (it has since broken, although it still ''runs''... Somehow...), her GBC Piggarchoo, her GBA Menardi, her CD player Saturos, and her alarm clock Karmine. If she ever gets a pair of rifles, she plans on naming on "Deathstick" and the other "Boomstick".
#67379
This troper's brother and friends stole a Michael's shopping cart, they call it Jeremy. In fact everything we steal, borrow or whatever, we call Jeremy, except my Grandmother's wheelchair, since it was only temporary we called it Sven.
#67380
This troper's family loves this with cars: We named one Hermione and another of the same make and model (but not color) Ginny. The minivan was Lucy (it was bright red). His aunt's first Minivan was Bessy (looked like a cow) and the second was Barny (it was purple). The car that all the kids learned to drive on has different names depending on the driver. I call it Baby, my sister calls it this too, but following the HarryPotter theme of the last two also calls it Luna or Cho. Due to it being white in color, my brother calls it Galvatron (the other car I learned to drive on was Megatron for it's tank like, gas guzzling nature. It died and we got the other one instead, my brother wanted to follow the theme.).
#67381
This troper delights in naming her computer equipment. Current desktop is called Breadbox (it's about the size of one), and its hard drives are Lovelace and Babbage; mp3 player is Blackjack Betty, and the laptop is Little L. Her boyfriend's car prefers to be known as "A Jeep Named Slickback", and takes offense if referred to as anything else.
#67382
This Troper's mother named her minivan Moya. He himself has been referring to the paleolithic second-hand laptop he's been using as the lappy, but is thinking of calling it Ratchet instead; it's old, slow-moving, and tempramental, and has lost a purely decorative part (the little rubber feet on the bottom), but it's still doing its thing. His non-functional desktop is Omega Supreme, for spoiler-y reasons.
#67383
Spoiler-y reasons or not, this troper finds that name awesome!
#67384
ThisTroper has two computers, a laptop called Harriet and a desktop called Vanessa. No theme, right? Wrong. Harriet (Vane)essa! Geddit? I am so very special...
#67385
This troper just got a 1-terabyte drive. It bears the moniker Memory Alpha, even though it's the J: drive. Maybe I should've called it Memory Juliet?
#67386
This troper named his computer Gunther. He's German and temperamental.
#67387
This troper and people he knows suspect computers of having developed rough AIs. One friend noticed any computer he didn't name Lazerous never survived past its first major disaster. This troper would rather not go into details about his... incident with a desktop he named "Hal".
#67388
This troper's external hard drive is named Timmy.
#67389
The computer this troper uses is "Old Bastard", for being a decade old and horribly tempermental - he only uses it for the Internet. His GuitarHero guitar controller is "Caliban", after one of the names he uses for his in-game bands. More recently, he named his PSP Asimov.
#67390
Oh gods, where do I start...
#67391
My old iPod Mini was named Rocko, but I eventually started calling it the "diePod" partly as a Simpsons homage and partly because the battery on it was screwed up. My current iPod is named Oto (Japanese for noise or sound, I think). My flash drive was named Flash Gordon until recently; then I watched TTGL, noticed that my flash drive is small, red and combined with things, and stole some previous Troper's idea and renamed it Lagann. My ''boken'' are named Kin and Gin (gold and silver).
#67392
My sister is, however, a far greater offender. She has named my current car (an Altima) Slash, the car we had before that (a Bonneville) Bono, another car (a red Element) the Crimson Chin, and was even the person who named our little half-brother.
#67393
I think we get it from our dad. He named his new computer Mighty Mac (guess what OS it runs!) and his car, a Volkswagon, Helmut. (I believe his explanation was along the lines of "it's a good German name.") My stepmom's not exempt, either: she named her car (a red Golf) Clifford, and ''even has a Clifford plushie on the dash.''
#67394
This troper has named his laptop Davy Jones, for no particular reason other than the wallpaper.
#67395
This troper names just about anything she has spent an extended amount of time with. Her computers are Compy, Lappy 486/The Craptop, GTILD, GTILD jr, and Liebkind. As well, her gamecube is Kira, her DS L, and her personal glockenspiel is Danke. Her high school's set of glockenspiels are named Old Man Denke and Danke jr, the xylophones being Sweeney and Lovett, the suspended cymbal Cullen and the sleigh bells Dahmer. Her generic mp3 player is currently dubbed Taiker. Erm, there's a bizarre theme with musical instruments being named after serial killers.
#67396
I've built five computers: Aeris, Cloud, Freya, Sylphide and Sesshomaru. My drives and peripherals are named after authors: Coulter, Sowell, Twain, Lewis, Steyn, etc.
#67397
This troper's laptop is named Rin. His flash drive is named Fate. In retrospect, he should have given his flash drive a male name, IfYouKnowWhatIMean.
#67398
This troper knows a guy from Russia who got up to some unspecified business back home awhile back, where he had an assault rifle named "Gloria" (after the Patti Smithe song, which is about hooking up with the titular girl). He is now living in America, and in lieu of his gun has an Italian switchblade which he carries everywhere and affectionately refers to as Glorietta. He has not the slightest idea why everyone finds this a bit unsettling.
#67399
This troper calls her grandmother's computer Inchy(R.I.P., poor thing seems to have gone to the big office in the sky), due to the fact that it would take her hours to get online. Inchy grew a personality after she noticed it seeming to warm up to her and taking a little less time - he was a grumpy old man who was lonely because he didn't get used, and then she would show up and play for hours. Her aunt's is Crash, for its tendency to crap out on the internet. Her iTunes is Tuner and her iPod is Blaster, while her brother names his consecutive iPods after the Die Hard Movies(the current one is "[Brother]: With a Vengeance". Her friend calls the laptop Lappy, though she may start calling her Flash, since the batteries are screwed and even when plugged in, her batterly light flashes. The desktop awaits his moniker.
#67400
Edit: Flash is not the laptop's name. This troper has decided it was male and dubbed it Kup, because he's seen lots of trouble and is battle-scarred(a corner of the frame is cracked and disconnected from its hinge). Also, whatever made the batteries work has been left out. Despite all this, he's still going and ready for action. Incidentally, this means the desktop is Hot Rod.
#67401
This troper named her laptop Thorin, and then it died. Still-extant computers are Charlie and Marius, which got shortened to Merry. The family GPS is Gwen, short for Guinevere; going with the same theme, her MP3 is Bedivere, and her flashdrive, Excalibur. While her phone doesn't have a name, she's nicknamed it the "Tardis phone" because it's blue, boxy, and bigger on the inside.
#67402
My memory's terrible, so I have a text file on my computer to remind myself of the names I've given my various inanimate objects. As I recall, it started when a friend of mine called my monstrous Epson printer {{Godzilla}}, and things just went downhill from there. The laptop I am typing this on is Nightblazer, which slightly modifies my screenname. My Xbox 360 is Optimus Prime; my Wii is Ike; my DS is Marth; my [=PS2=] is Knightblazer, hearkening back to the original influence for my screenname; my PSP is Siegfried; my iPod is Harry (after the first singing role I ever had); and bringing everything full circle back to the TropeNamer, my car is Serenity]] Malcolm Reynolds, upon further consideration.
#67403
I've named my guitar Grace after the first song I learned to play on it, my computer monitor Sampson after Samsung Electronics, and my printer DJ, short for Deskjet. In the event that I ''do'' get a gun, I will name it Daisuke.
#67404
This Troper's old computer is named KOS-MOS, after much debate. The iPod Nano is Aphex, the new computer has not been named yet, and my old GameCube was Pik (after Pikmin). Other named objects include my friend's PS2 (Old Betsy). Lastly however, is my mom's van for work, which we have all agreed to call "The Beast". It is truly a creature of much destruction.
#67405
This troper has named several of her computers, most of them starting with A. Amadeus, Altair, Anima, up to Albion, my laptop. All of this with the notable exception of the ex-rental I'm on right now. Its name is Corky.
#67406
This troper's computer is named "Compy". She also named both of the violins she's had; the first was "Victoria" and it was an okay student rental, the one she graduated to was a Ling So violin made in Bejing and was thusly christened "Ling So Lin-Lin" and showered with much love from that moment onwards.
#67407
{{Ripsaw}} needs to do some renaming of electronics and other posessions. I think I'll use {{Andromeda}} as a basis, thus:
#67408
Main PC: ''Andromeda Ascendant'', as she's big, powerful, and termpermental
#67409
Old PC, used mainly for video capture: ''Eureka Maru'': old, crusty, reliable--takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
#67410
Laptop: Trance. Specifically, Purple Trance: sweet and prone to navigation errors (frelling laptop keyboard...).
#67411
This troper calls her clarinet Stella. She has also dubbed her saxophone Godot due to said character's jazzy {{Leitmotif}}.
#67412
This troper's desktop PC is named 'The Unfinator' for no apparent reason, her laptop is named 'Mini-Unf' and her new MP3 player has been christened 'Teeny-Unf'
#67413
So far, this troper has had 0-K, Switchblade, and Sheena (flash drives); she's also had Pharaoh, Caramell, and Trucy (mp3 players). On top of that, the hard drives on her computer are named Hex and Rincewind.
#67414
Throughout the history of my computers, I have had a number of names for the systems and the drive: Luke was my first computer, I forget the second, the third is Rsheena, after a fellow [=RPer=], the fourth was Den and is still sitting on the name, and the current one is named Imite. My hard drive names include Kuriboh, Tempo & Roll (Tempo being an Original Character), Hikaru & Samus (may they rest in peace till I can afford to replace them). My current laptop is still sitting on a temporary name (portable den), but my iPod is Bal Kheldin, after an original series I've written a few chapters into, my flash drive in Alpua (from my own online moniker), and my bike has been Lightning for well over a decade -- when I have one (she gets pissy that I don't take better care of her). My first car was Yreons, and my current wagon is Rustbucket. For a while I had myself Nessy, an original NES, and, until after I had a DS, Cobalt my GBA SP. The DS still sits nameless, though surely it's only a matter of time until I find something that fits.
#67415
This troper has given her macbook two names. Yes, I know. The one I call him in public is Lil' Mac, and the other one I got from GoodOmens..
#67416
While any names this troper may have given things are usually boring and don't stick, one of this troper's friends has named her car "Jenny Haniver".
#67417
After moving away from her parents place, this troper was compelled to name her bike - now her primary form of transport - "Lydia". It's an old-fashioned ladies' model (older than this troper, in fact), so it demanded a somewhat sophisticated name. She also used to name her stuffed animals after fictional characters when she was younger, with the largest one changing names depending on what her main fandom was.
#67418
Additionally, her parents' current cars are called "Baby" (as in an infant. The car is almost too big to fit in their garage) and "Flat".
#67419
This troper's friend has named her car Sheldon (I don't name my things, but I have decided that I will call an air horn Bess.)
#67420
This troper has named her laptop Elim, for the {{Magnificent Bastard}} from ''Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'', her cell phone Captain Jack for all such named, be it pirate or immortal paranormal investigator), and her mp3 player Sasuke, from ''Naruto''. She is hoping to purchase a external HD soon, which she plans on naming Sylar. Becauase she is that much a {{fan girl}}.
#67421
This troper's brother knew a Mexican guy in highschool who inherited his dad's beat-up old truck that he used to carry his gardening tools. The guy lovingly calls his inherited truck () ''the Bean Machine.''
#67422
This troper's main PC is called The Rig, after the GravityGun from ''Wild 9''. His recently completed living room PC is called Pepperbox, which is based on its main purpose (PVR gets corrupted to "Pepper").
#67423
This troper named his PC's in high school and college after Star Wars ships (most from the Expanded Universe). He also has a real Vera, his Nerf Vulcan EBF-25, a belt-fed, motorized Nerf machine gun. He also has the Chair Leg of Truth, a chair leg he ripped off of an old wooden chair someone left out for trash. It is wise and terrible.
#67424
This troper is a chronic namer; her PC is Nepthys, laptop is Maeve, mandolin is Aiobhann, pocket watch is Heroditus...the list goes on.
#67425
My RP partner's OC, Punisher, has a golden-hilted sword named "Haku." The name refers to her deceased lover, a dragon demon.
#67426
This troper named his GH guitar "Vulcan" due to his use of the band name "Firegod."
#67427
The above troper is now working on what to name his Wii steering wheel.
#67428
He has named his memory drives Warlock and Oracle. Hacker names.
#67429
This troper named her memory stick Augusta, her external hard drive Poppy, and her webcam Cammy.
#67430
This troper at one point had both a desktop and a laptop computer. She named the desktop Alexander the Great and the laptop Hephaestion. (She now only has a laptop, which she's shortened to Hepa, but she's named her backup drive Bucephalus.)
#67431
This troper names her tech on a regular basis. Her old laptop (right before he died of age, at least) was named Starscream (whiny, needed to be smacked to get anything done, evil) and had a Decepticon logo sticker on, to boot. Her current computer, a desktop, have a name yet (unless you count "fragging glitch-ridden hunk of slag"...) but probably will some time soon is named Crankshaft, after the old, grouchy, cynical comic-strip character of the same name. Her iPod is named Vicky after one of her friends' [=OCs=], and her old iPod was named Pharaun (after her favorite character from the War of the Spider Queen books) because the first time she plugged him in, her computer crashed. Small, black, and nasty? Name it after a drow.
#67432
This troper has named a number of things that he owns. Most prominent is a Chinese Jian sword called Caroline, named after a girl he knew in primary school with the sharpest wit he'd ever seen. Also, most of his computer parts have names, with a flash drive called Commissar, an external hard drive called Empire (it ruled the PC for a time), and an MP3 player called Stalin (it had a habit of... purging songs willy-nilly). Also, one of his characters on a Star Wars related roleplay has the Sci-fi equivalent of a Desert Eagle called Caroline as well.
#67433
This troper's current computer is called Ghostwheel, and he's had an Omoikane and Canal Volfield in the past as well. The car fluctuates between "Jean" for coming BackFromTheDead so often, and "Rocinante"--it's a faithful steed that looks like utter crap.
#67434
This troper's friend named his three computers "Aircrash," "Lake," and "Edge," referencing the Radiohead song "Lucky."
#67435
This troper, before even having read this page, amed his computer Tetragrammetron after a word in an invocation from the Cthulhu mythos.
#67436
This troper names all her various dragon sculptures and collectibles depending on their looks and "personalities". Campion, Smaug, Maleficent, Damion, Four-Eyes, Desdemona, Gazer, and Libron are just a few. Another more eccentric instance of this trope in our household is the salad tongs, Herman. He was named long ago by my aunt as a child, and he remains the only household implement with a name.
#67437
This troper is a cosplayer. She gives her non-styled wigs the same name as their color, in some other language; the ones that are already styled, she calls them by the name of their respective character. The wigheads have names, too. Also, her sewing machine is called Gurren-kun because the first piece of fabric I used it on had a cloud pattern.
#67438
This Troper's named most of his computers and memory sticks. My old laptop was named JordanKennedy, in reference to ExploitationNow. The current desktop is AgathaHetrodyne. I started acquiring USB sticks before I had access to highspeed internet at home, and named the first two accordingly: Blackbeard and AnneBonnie, for the reasons those names probably evoke. More recently I've continued the theme with newer, bigger sticks even though they don't get used for that any more: EdwardTeach and CalicoJack. If I ever do get a gun, I plan to name it Nanoha. My reason will be 'wishful thinking,' which, under the circumstances, should suffice.
#67439
This troper has named all her computers and memory storage devices in the last few years. This is pretty normal, but she's the only one in her circle of friends that habitually refers to them by their names and calls them "he" instead of "it" (so far they're all male by pure coincidence).
#67440
This troper has named many of his electronics. These include Zeke (Xbox), Zack (Xbox 360), Mario and Luigi (twin Gameboys), Adolf ("temperamental" Gameboy Pocket), Hal (old camera), Haruko (old MP3 player), Canti (current MP3 player, unfortunately dead), Garry (old PC), and Lopez (current PC, only uses Google Mexico for some reason). My car was also named, though admittedly not by me, my Mom calls it Zippy.
#67441
This troper has named her current iPod Beat, her headphones Rhyme, her old Shuffle Inequality (long story), and her computer Hal. (As well as the more recent decision to name her DS Cyrus.)
#67442
This troper is a longtime {{UNIX}} geek, so all of his computers have names. He uses pagan goddesses as his theme, so his Macbook is called "Lilith", his wife's is called "Rhiannon", and his server is called "Astarte". He also has a sledgehammer that he calles "Cluebringer". It's a magical weapon; people stop asking dumb questions when he has it handy.
#67443
This troper? Computer = Matilda. Printer = Marx. Stereo = Shingler. Powerboard = Matheson. Bookcase 1 = Arnold. Bookcase 2 = Eustace. Nintendo DS = Marley. A few slips of the tongue at school initially lead people to believe that I had a girlfriend called Matilda. Confusion ensued.
#67444
True to the original trope, this troper's 12 3/4" butcher knife has been affectionately dubbed "Jerry." On a tamer note, her laptop and iPod are Demyx and Quistis, respectively.
#67445
In the interest of giving effective notes to her actors, this Troper and her friend purchased a large Nerf sniper rifle and proceeded to shoot all of the actors in our amateur production who could not remember their lines. The gun's name? Vera.
#67446
This troper, for no reason other than because he could, named his two GuitarHero guitars. The X-Plorer, used as the lead, is named Veronica; the Fender Strat, the bass, Callandra.
#67447
This troper has named her laptop Enju.
#67448
This troper has named his bluetooth mouse "Jerry" because it works exceptionally well and never dies, despite the generic brand and cheap price tag saying it should be doing the exact opposite. He has also named his iMac "Hexadecimal" because it accidentally fell over and got a slight scar-like crack in the LCD screen. He plans to name his [=DSi=] and new bike when he gets them.
#67449
He has now named the DSi "Little Boy Blue". The bike may not be on it's way after all due to money issues, though..
#67450
This Troper has a lucky half-dollar piece he calls "Mr. Kennedy," half because of who's head on it, and half because he likes saying it like Salazar. Is also naming his PSP "Cid" because half the games he has for it are from the ''FinalFantasy'' series.
#67451
This Troper has named several cars. Lassie ([=AMC=] Eagle), Gina (Fiat), Streak and ReplacementGoldfish Blur (Subaru). Also, a deep green pot on top of his woodstove is named Kermit. Oddly, none of his guns or bladed weapons have names.
#67452
This troper has an old dark blue 1994 Mazda that she named "Old Bruce" ala BatmanBeyond because: "It's old and beat up, but it still works. And will probably never die. Ever."
#67453
This troper has her trusty computer she has named "my baby". Which unfortunately raises eyebrows whenever people try to touch "my baby" in public. (Back off! It's my baby! NO TOUCHIE!)
#67454
This troper's cousin managed to name her ''RurouniKenshin boxed set'' "my baby".
#67455
Ryan Conferido of Quest Crew (America's 3rd best dance crew) called a toy gun of his, "Mike Jones" Video here.
#67456
This troper has named a bunch of her stuff. A set of three ginsu knives have been named "Henry", "Lee", and "Lucas", her favorite kitchen knife is "Ed", and a rubber mallet she has is "Harvey". Her desktop computer (evil incarnate) has been named "Zodiac", and her white Chevy Malibu is "Morgan la Fey".
#67457
I get all the references except "Harvey" (I can think of two or three possibles, but the one that fits the apparently established theme doesn't entirely work). Could you be talked into clarifying that one?
#67458
This troper's computer is his work-tool, and he's an otaku, and Bleach fan. I'm a free-lance translator, and I was desperate to leave home. Of course, to do the works I needed a computer, which I already had - it was a matter of getting started, which I did eventually. Since my computer helped me leave my original home and afford my own place, is fast and black, it seemed only natural for it to be named... Yoruichi. I also have Ryo-Ohki, a pen-drive. :p
#67459
This troper's laptop is named Leader-1. Because ''everything'' is named Leader-1. The fake katana she uses in Karate is called Runway.
#67460
This troper's iMac was dubbed "Lestat" by several female friends because apparently "it's that sexy." More relevantly, he's dubbed his external hard drive the "Holocron."
#67461
This tropper has a new laptop which has been christened "Canti" after the lovable TV-headed robot from FLCL. So far, he's lived up to the name.
#67462
This troper has a black Celica he calls "Trombe!" and has a tendency to yell "Gallop, Trombe!" when stomping on the gas.
#67463
An aquintance of this troper collects alot of different firearms and names some of them. So far there's Bill(Barret .50), Simo(Mosin Nagant), Jack(1911), Recoil-a-Ton(Desert Eagle) and Sir Breaks-a-Lot IV(Calico Liberty) This troper helped come up with the names of the latter two(as well as the other Sir Breaks-a-Lots I, II and III, the first of which was named Vincent)
#67464
This troper's previous laptops were named Doxideus [=DeiDei=] I, II, and III (Doxie for short).
#67465
This troper's cars have always been named, dating back from her childhood where her parent's cars were Bohemith and Levilathon. Then, when she and her siblings became old enough to name them themselves, their arguments gave rise to convoluted names like Fauks (after Dumbledor's pet) Serenity (after the Firefly class of the same name).
#67466
This troper's badass Nerf gun has been broken and retooled so many times that she's dubbed it "Ridley", after Samus' arch-nemesis in the ''{{Metroid}}'' series.
#67467
This troper calls his katana 'Miko', and his rifle 'Tex'. 'Miko' is named after a certain crazy paladin, and Tex is named after a certain bloodthirsty mercenary.
#67468
This troper's friends have a habit of naming their houses. Doom, the Hellfire Club, the Catcave, Pridehouse and various others have featured. When she moved into her new flat, this troper named it Thisland. Because it is a fertile land and we shall thrive. There's a cemetary over the road - we call it Yourgrave.
#67469
You are so ''awesome''.
#67470
This Troper named his guitar "Allison". I love that name!
#67471
This troper's boss (former US Army sniper) elucidated to me on the directive many Drill Instructors give their charges to name their weapons; it's a psychological tactic. Naming the weapon is intended to make a recruit have an attachment to it beyond it just being their gun, the reasoning being that if they form said attachment they will be more diligent about using and maintaining it; understandable, considering that it may be the difference between life and death. It's also to impress upon the recruit the possibility that they may one day be in a situation where all they have to rely on is their weapon. And also, I have named some of my items. My PC I call "Compy". My electric guitar I call "Kenny", for the Kenny(from South Park) sticker behind the bridge. My 360 is called "Skynet", and I do have a pistol, which I have named "Winona" in honor of John Chricton from {{FarScape}}. She's so pretty.
#67472
This Troper names almost all of his dice. An especially lucky translucent d20 was called "Crystal", three d4s "Blood", "Sweat", and "Tears", and a dark green d20 "Hunter".
#67473
This editor will from now on, when he plays Medic on ''TeamFortress2'', call either his medigun or needlegun Hans. He is also actually German.
#67474
This troper has never named a weapon, but she has named various electronic devices. For instance, her desktop computer is Eleanor, her Wii is Isabel, and her PS2 is Optimus Playstation.
#67475
This troper started naming things after he saw {{Firefly}}. Notably, his car Vickie (A Crown Victoria), his iRiver (read: bastard cousin of the iPod) "Serenity," and his laptop GLaDOS.
#67476
This Troper's computer has green [=LEDs=] located throughout the box, save for one place: the heat sink. It's a Cooler Master ball-shaped heat sink, with copper plates surrounding a tall fan, which glows blue like the Cherenkov radiation of a nuclear reactor. Hence, its name is "Chernobyl", and the main hard drive's name is "3mileisle".
#67477
This troper has a lot of fun naming his electronic equipment: he has a laptop named Tenga, a flash drive named Domino [=DeMoines=], a tablet named Squire, an iPod named Q-Bert, and a printer named Professor Von Ravengard.
#67478
For convenience, the farm ThisTroper lives on names its tractors. Yes, tractors. Among them: Og, Moose and Superclyde.
#67479
This troper's family is in the habit of naming their cars: Vinnie (Venture Mini-van) and Bartholomew (current car); upon getting her own, it was quickly dubbed Stacy (it's a Malibu). She also calls her laptop Mitsuru and her iPod's name is Sibyl.
#67480
My BMW 128i is named Ilsa. Appropriate, since I bought her in Germany. None of my six guns have names, although I do treat them like pets sometimes.
#67481
This troper likes to make his friends think he's a psycho sometimes, so he keeps a baseball bat named Lord Blood-make-come-out-of.
#67482
This troper named her first laptop Toshi (guess the company) and it just went downhill from there. She now has a new laptop named Radley. The name Radley actually makes sense. It is a Macbook, and since she wanted to shorten it's company name into a nickname she shortened it to Boo. Can you see where this is going? She named her iPod Mercutio. She recently got her own car who she slapped a red 'r' on, leading her to call it James though she always thinks of it as James. And finally she got one of her dad's old typewriters and now calls it Lady Hyzenthlay. This troper also tends to treat these objects a little better than perhaps what is healthy.
#67483
This troper is the owner of Toshi's "younger brother", Ba.
#67484
This troper named his labtop Darth Sweetums. If this troper is attacked, Darth Sweetums is indeed large enough to use as a weapon if necessary.
#67485
This editor's...
#67486
...PC is named Gaspar;
#67487
...Laptop is named Balthasar;
#67488
...Palm is named Melchior;
#67489
...and you're in for a treat if you can tell the network name...
#67490
This troper has a habit of giving names by describing a trait in Japanese, then forcefully twist the Japanese into a random name which sounds cute. For example,
#67491
he named his very first computer (now a file storage) Nibbie (nibui, ''slow'') for being slow after all the years,
#67492
his ''lap''top's name Labbie (rappu, ''lap'') was partly inspired by a character from a random game he came across at that time known as Angel Rabbie,
#67493
his DS Lite's Cubiol (kubioru, ''break neck'') for its loose top screen and for sounding like Hack}} Cubia,
#67494
and his home access point's SSID basically changes once every blue moon, ranging from references to {{Dot Hack}} to his most recent obsession, Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum. Yes, 27 characters long. It's torturing to have a techno-idiot brother who owns an iPhone and who keeps managing to erase his Wi-Fi settings, but I love the name so go me.
#67495
More recently, this troper has started a habit of collecting names that he finds attractive in a txt file and making fictional daughters (complete with backstories) out of each. And then use those names in [=RPGs=] when an opportunity arises. Speedster girl? Hello Tathythanasia! (greek, vaguely ''quick death'') Archer/healer/barrier girl? Hi there Analgia! (greek, ''no pain'') When actually raising a daughter? Sachyle. (sachiare, ''be happy'') Of course, when I do name male characters I simply keep default names, or use generic male names like Tom or Dick or Harry.
#67496
My tap shoes are named, respectively, Fred and Ginger- any dance nerd should know what I mean.
#67497
My best friend has named her trumpet Donald- geddit??
#67498
This troper has a knife that he calls 'Knife' and a staff that he calls... 'Stick'. Creative, huh?
#67499
This troper named his car {{Frankenstein}}. Because it's green, ugly, was put together on a slab using parts from the graveyard, it growls a lot, and he thinks it's trying to kill him. Slightly less humorously, the computer this entry is being written on is named "Melfina".
#67500
Also, one of his DungeonsAndDragons characters has paired swords named Kaos and Bit. A slightly more GenreSavvy cleric in another campaign has a magical gun named "The Chekhov". Hur hurr.
#67501
Our dear Melfina has sadly passed on, however in keeping with the tradition of naming computers after anime Robot Girls her replacement will be called Dorothy.
#67502
I'm guilty of this.
#67503
My first iPod, a Gen 1 Nano, was named Zilla. I had been complaining about how it was being uncooperative, and was told that maybe it would like me better if I gave it a name. Zilla was the first thing I could think of, so Zilla it was. It was eventually replaced with an identical iPod named Clover, to continue the theme. Clover was great and could have served me well for many more years, but then I was given...
#67504
A red Gen 4 Nano. Since I had jumped from a Gen 1 to a Gen 4, I decided that the name should similarly be a step up from mere monsters to something more terrifying. My thought process was along the lines of "My new iPod is red. Giygas is red. Let's name it Giygas!"
#67505
Our former PC, before we all got laptops, was named Nemo. Because I was obsessed with that movie at the time. Yep.
#67506
I named my laptop Kitten. When she was given to me, my dad was talking about how I needed to take excellent care of it, not handle it roughly, etc, and the way he said it reminded me of how one would talk about a pet. Also, the login icon was a picture of an adorable kitten.
#67507
Lastly, I named my Android phone HARVE_VISTA, though I usually just call her Harve. Two reasons. One, said phone is even less agreeable than Zilla was. I'm convinced that if she had intelligence, she'd hate me. Two, chmod makes a pretty neat ringtone.
#67508
This troper has been naming computers for years- all after AIs. His old Compaq Persario is HAL, his dead Dell was Tycho, his second Dell was Durandal, and his beloved laptop is SHODAN.
#67509
This Troper has the following: A katana named Grace, a xiphos named Socrates (he's Greek, ugly, and tells people when they're wrong), a knife named Sherman (on its side is a picture of a timber wolf tearing through a Confederate flag), a laptop named El Cid Computor, an iPod named Twilight, and a digital camera named Allison.
#67510
This troper has two fedoras named Herman and Melvin, three bags named Sack (I, II, and III), a PS2 named Jethro (and a broken one named Leroy), an iPod named Minstrel, and Wii named Dream Eater. She also has numerous things named Lloyd, all intended to be aspects of the same collective character (yes, she's weird).
#67511
Oh and if she ever manages to get a Volkswagon Beetle, this troper intends to name it Cricket.
#67512
This Troper's old computer was named Raoul; her new laptop has yet to be named.
#67513
{{Smerf}}: I don't name many things (although my computer is named Sylvia). However, when I was 17 and driving the '93 Ford Aerostar my dad provided as a vehicle, I named it Jean Claude. As in Jean Claude ''Damn Van''.
#67514
I guess this would count as an inversion. Despite all three of our cats having names they are normally refered to as "cat". As for playing it straight, my Dad's old car was called Nerd (the numberplate had NRD at the end) and the new one is "Wino" (Y at the start and NO at the end). Apart from that his friend has named his Guitar and is currently debating what to name his new guitar when it arrives. If england allowed us to have any guns, I'd probably name mine Clyde.
#67515
I named my guitar Emma (after Goldman) after taking it with me to the annual SOA protest/vigil.
#67516
This troper has a old MX 7120 Gateway called 'Sasha'... also this troper subsequently turned said laptop into a Transformer due to lack of characters in his fanfiction. >___>. This Troper also named his 1975 VW thing 'Volks', his Chrysler Pacifica 'Roadking' and his Suzuki Sx4 'Tailpipe'.
#67517
This troper is somewhat infamous in real life for her habit of naming inanimate objects. The most notable names include:
#67518
Patchouli Knowledge, her laptop. Named as such because it’s usually surrounded by books, holds a large amount of information, and it doesn’t leave the house much.
#67519
Prometheus Nathaniel Ibanez, her bass guitar. Her full name is much longer.
#67520
Felix St. Felix, her phone. She’s thinking about renaming it Joshua, because it’s kind of a {{Jerkass}}.
#67521
The family cars, Balrog and the Millennium Falcon.
#67522
In the original spirit of this trope, she also names her weapons. Such names include Claes (a bow), Ryouko and Madotsuki (two large kitchen knives, the former of which could be called a BFK), and Clara (an aluminum baseball bat). She’s perfectly sane, and not AxeCrazy in the slightest.
#67523
This troper named his [=M16A4=] 'Ahuva Roveh'
#67524
This troper's friend has names for a bunch of his computer accessories, such as "Flood", a keyboard with some strange green growth on it, and "Naboo", an external drive that died but got better.
#67525
This troper again; I've started giving names to my preferred weapons in videogames. I've already gone completely nuts with it, naming a propane tank I found Hank, killing a Hunter by whacking it with the tank repeatedly, then claiming Hank was so BadAss he ''killed the Hunter with his face''.
#67526
This troper calls his bass guitar Geddy. He plans on naming future bass guitars after his other major influences and will most likely name his next one either Steve if its the Squire J that he is looking at or Geezer if its the Epiphone Les Paul that he's looking at.
#67527
This troper calls his desktop PC Titan (although Monolith would be just as fitting, as it's big, black, blocky, shiny and one of the first games installed was {{Spore}}), his first laptop Hex]] (due to the first thing he said showing the eBay auction he won to his friend: "MINE!") and his second laptop Garrus (because it's got a Turion processor). His router's SSID is "Clacks Tower". And when he still had his MB01 airsoft sniper rifle, he usually called it Blunderbuss.
#67528
This troper has a katana named Tiefling, and a walking stick/bonkstick named Aasimar.
#67529
This troper named his first electric guitar "Sir Digby Chicken Cesar" (whoever gets the reference gets awesome points) and his katana is currently unnamed.
#67530
This troper named his trumpet "My Baby" and still refers to the instrument as if it were female. Fellow band members named theirs "The Precious," "Charlene," and "The Bitch."
#67531
This troper named his boots. The [=McKenzie=] Brothers, Liam and Richard, march on!
#67532
This troper has named his laptop "You Idiot". It's running Vista, which is the Scrappy-Doo of OS's, and has had, on average, something go frustratingly but not cripplingly wrong every three months, so...
#67533
I don't often name my stuff. I call my computer "Compy" and my laptop "Lappy", though. My iPod is named Hal, but the only times I call it that are when I'm making bad puns on "open the pod bay doors". I'm pretty sure that at one point, my pencil was named Shadow, or something.
#67534
This troper named his 360 hard drive the Codex, his 4gig flash drive is the Bedouin, and his iPod is simply "the iPod" (because it's not AN iPod, it's THE iPod). As is the wont of the rest of the world, his laptop is HAL9000. His Wavebird has been named (not by him, but he begrudgingly agrees) The Boomerang (I'm not a big fan of Smash). He's not much into naming things, as eventually naming conventions will confuse SOMEBODY, and the troper at least attempts clarity in communication.
#67535
Somewhat subverted by 2}} this troper, who carries a large knife on his person at all times, but having never found a use for it, he often forgets he has it, and thus it has no name. However, he has sworn to give it the same name as Kenpachi's, as soon as it is discovered.
#67536
This troper named her car "Zuzu" for several reasons: because it's cute, because she played Zuzu in a school production of It's A Wonderful Life, and it sounds vaguely like "Zoom zoom!" which Zuzu certainly does NOT do. To follow the theme, her computer is named Clarence. enough, her iPod has no name. Her iPod is now named SHODAN, because its overdone and it has a tendency to stutter and be schizophrenic. (Don't ask how an iPod can stutter, it just ''can''.)
#67537
This Troper calls his laptop's Firewall Maxwell. Oh, and my Guitar is actually called Vera.
#67538
This troper's sensei actively encourages his students name their katana, as the sword is deemed to be the physical manifestation of a student's martial soul. This troper's katana is Fierce Lass and the naginata is Mister Pointy.
#67539
this troper's laptop is solar, as my old one was sidereal... untill it took major damage and with repairs became abbysall, all after {{exalted}}, i also have some fake swords i named after the celestial incarnae.
#67540
This troper named her beloved knife Sheila.
#67541
This troper named his desktop Eden, his laptop SHODAN and his sister's laptop Durandal.
#67542
He also named his various pieces of tech after some OCs (all of which but one are my friend, Cashala's) - Doryn, my printer who is named after my OC (because it's torture to use), Prism, the wireless mouse (because it moves around a lot), Stasis, my ball-mouse (both due to Stasis' mouse ears, and the fact it stops a lot) and Holocaust is the laptop cooler. (simply for irony- Holocaust manipulates fire)
#67543
This Troper has many of these in her life, and not all are her own.
#67544
The laptop's name is lappy.
#67545
Her sister's bike is named The Giantess.
#67546
Her own bike is named Flobars.
#67547
misc names include: Happy Cup, Happy Hat, and Madri the pencil.
#67548
This troper's mother named her iPod Belinda. Her mother's friend named her car Stella. This troper has also affectionately named the DVR Asshole. It's really that horrible to use.
#67549
This Troper once had a black Geo Metro and a can of yellow non-water soluble paint at his disposal. For no reason at all, he painted the words "Danger" and "Danger Squad" on the sides, hood, and trunk. From this day forward, it was forever known, as The Danger Car, not only by him, but by the entire community. On top of this, he had a missing sun roof which he patched with metallic tape. Seeing what a poor job he did with the paint, he then used the hardy metallic tape in place of the "Danger" and "Danger Squad" lettering. The car itself was an average, around town car, but after being christened with yellow paint and metallic tape, it took several levels in Badassery.
#67550
This Troper named her flash drive "Virus." Purely because she liked to watch the screaming of horror whenever someone else plugged it in and the window would pop up declaring "Drive K: VIRUS".
#67551
This Troper's Laptop named is Graf Eisen.
#67552
In the computer game {{Dofus}}, one spell summons a suicidal stuffed doll, which attacks by walking up to an enemy and exploding. Whenever this troper summons it, he shouts, "Go Mr. Snuggles!"
#67553
Pretty lame though it is, this troper has named every single one of her stuffed toys. One of her best friends, before knowing Venus' real name, called the planet "Shalom".
#67554
Every Video Game console this troper owns is has a russian (or russian-like) name His DS and DSi are namedSasha and Natasha respectivley, his Wii is Eva, his PS2 is Sonya, and his 360's Boris. Also, his phone is Canti and a red USB he carrys on his lanyard is Lagann along with a black one named Lazengann.
#67555
This troper calls his car Lily (someone else named it...she names everything, and I decided to run with it) and his laptop Ven (actually not a ''KingdomHearts'' ShoutOut, but he doesn't feel like explaining it).
#67556
This troper's roomate named her car Sonya after a character in Underworld
#67557
This troper's trusty backpack (which carries her school stuff in lieu of a locker) is named "Wasabi."
#67558
This troper named his epee "Le Maupin".
#67559
This troper's friend has a shotgun that he calls Señor Bümstique.
#67560
This troper named his calculator Noah Kuttler, after the DCU Villain The Calculator.
#67561
{{Mr B}} named his Telecaster, The Holocaster, his computer is The Doomsday machine, his harddrive is Shiny metalbox of doom, and his USB memmory card is Blackie, Then his Mercedes he calls Mercedes she is nice, drinks lots of Water and Gas but she takes him wherever he want even when she is one rod short.
#67562
This troper has a saxophone named... Angel Unit Chelsea.
#67563
After reading this page, this troper has named her MacBook Trek} Riker/Number One so she can yell "make it so, Number One!" when it gets fussy. Also, her old crappy iPod video is named 'Failbot' because it ''sucks''. though, surprisingly, not as much as the gen3 Nano. She now wants to name her flashlight, acoustic guitar, GBA, and phone at the very least... and once she finally gets a Leatherman Multi-Tool she's naming that too.
#67564
The closest this troper got to naming of her tech was her black and red pen, which I promptly named Shadow due to the coloring. A black and gray one also quickly became Sephiroth.
#67565
She also isn't sure if this counts or not, seeing as to how its a prop, but she also has this blue shoulder-dragon puppet-thing that she named Delenn. She's had her since at least age five.
#67566
New one. She has a pendulum now, a nice pretty blue goldstone one with a very trickster-like personality that likes to screw with people. Though blue goldstone, she appears very purple to me and a number of people. Because of this coloring plus her personality, I unoficially call her {{NiGHTS}}. Officially? Shyama.
#67567
This troper (a Wiccan-ish solitary pagan) finally found herself a knife that she feels completely comfortable using as an athame, this past weekend (coincidentally, on the 31st of October!). It's a kukri with a blade about as long as her forearm. She does, in fact, call it Vera. What was supposed to be a joke about having "the spiritual equivalent of a shotgun" just ''stuck''....
#67568
This troper rides a motorbike called Llamrei, wields a sword named Amddiffynnwr, and a double-edged combat dagger called Carnwennan. Yes, he is Welsh, why do you ask?
#67569
This troper's violin case looks like it might hold a machine gun. So, as appropriate, she calls it Astrid. Yep, it does make people nervously laugh.
#67570
Being a H-core geek, this troper names any network capable device he owns. After random cartoon and book characters. And also some non-network equipment as well. Just because they're hooked up to the network-enabled equipment somehow through six degrees of wiring separation.
#67571
Examples include Maxwell the Proxy Server Box (because Maxwell in {{Hamtaro}} is the smart one, and all the other computers - Clementine, Helen, Dongwa, Cleo, Kiki, and Sally are not allowed direct connection to the Internet except on special occasions).
#67572
Named network apparatuses includes Bonnet the Wii, Custard the DS Lite, Harriet The PS2, Jess the PS3 and Wingnut The Color LED printer.
#67573
Then there's the Bluetooth-enabled devices: SwiftHeart the Dopod 838Pro, Panda the SonyEricsson, and Anne the iPaq.
#67574
Non computer-equipment named includes Quetzal II The LCD TV (Quetzal 1 lost to parents :( ), Nadine the VCR, and Work-Of-Heart The V-Smile Pocket. And oh, Pupcake the Zen Vision:M Portable Media Player
#67575
This troper named her iPod Sparky. Sparky died. Now she has Sparky II.
#67576
This troper's first two cars were named Boris and Eduardo.
#67577
This Troper This troper names his hard drives. He has Eugene, Nausicaa, Midna and Kilgore. And his iPod is named Squonk. And a flash drive named Albi.
#67578
This troper had named quite a few of his stuff, including but not limited to:
#67579
TARDIS, my main PC
#67580
Yuki-chan, my backup PC
#67581
Mikuru, my Pocket PC
#67582
This troper has a steak knife that he calls "Robert".
#67583
This troper doesn't have an official name for her electric guitar, but always refers to it as female. She [the guitar] is just an old pawn shop guitar my parents bought me, but she'll play for several years to come.
#67584
UPDATE: The guitar is now male and will be referred to as Eddie Riggs.
#67585
Her computer, which can take forever to do things, is now Axl.
#67586
Her iPod is named Lyn after a rather important Aesop-bringer in her life, but the name has not been mentioned out loud.
#67587
Her Game Boy Advance is Kanto.
#67588
Her DS Lite is Peter Steele, in memoriam of ''that'' Peter Steele.
#67589
Her Xbox 360 is Crash, and no, not the bandicoot. You can probably guess why I called it Crash.
#67590
Her PS2 is Emppu.
#67591
Her N64, being the most classic gaming system she owns, is Sabbath.
#67592
The Wii, while having no official name, has been told to StopHelpingMe so many times it can be considered a name.
#67593
This troper tends to name things if they've been with her suitably long enough. I have my custom made Bulghereoni oboe named Enzo, my 6 year old lucky bamboo who acts as my writing partner at college named Alistair, a PS3 named Vera and last of all my weapons. Since I take kendo my shinai is named Tenro, while my boken is named Hosho. And since this troper is a paranoid girl she has a knife in her boot named Campbell.
#67594
This troper names all his guitars. My Les Paul is named Gary (after the fact that I looked like Gary Moore playing it). My Strat is named Ray, both after Stevie Ray Vaughan and since I wanted a "space-age name" to fit the style. My other, P90 loaded Les Paul is called Leslie, after Leslie West (which was the main reason I wanted P90s) and my Telecaster is named Beckie, of Jeff Beck, who played one in The Yardbirds (I even have a set of pickups called Yardbirds in it!).
#67595
This troper named the 2001-vintage desktop in his living room 'Quong'. Then when it got upgraded with easily 2010 parts, he renamed it 'Kuang' because that kicks more ass. Also, his cantankerous old wireless router is 'Gertie'.
#67596
This troper doesn't have weapons, but has stated to a friend that it if he had two guns, he would name them after his favorite female classmates. And if he had heart handgrenades (too much American Idiot causes this to you), he would name them after his cutest freshwomen (partly because one of them was a "love story he didn't have").
#67597
Unfortunately, guns are illegal here. So yeah. Instead, I named a particular knife "Johnson" because it seemed like a Butler's name, and the knife was just a cheese-cutting knife, so it fit as the name for a knife of kitchen service.
#67598
Despite only having played the original FarCry, DEFCON 1 named his laptop "the Jackal".
#67599
I named a suitcase Kevin.
#67600
This page has inspired me to name my USB, "Cherry". Previously, I've only ever named my plushies.
#67601
MutantRancor here. I've unofficially named my car (a gold-colored '97 Honda Accord) "Hana Yori Dango." For tropers who are unfamiliar with the phrase, it's a Japanese saying that roughly translates to "dumplings before flowers," but actually means "substance before style." Because, while not flashy or stylish, it serves its purpose admirably.
#67602
This troper has named his new cordless wall phone Nappa because it has a habit of falling on the floor whenever the door slams and yelling "GODDAMMIT NAPPA!" is so very cathartic.
#67603
This troper names mostly everything she owns. She had a stuffed cat named Penelope, an acoustic guitar named Thunder(a boy), and an electric named Lightning(Thunder's sister), and her X-Box 360 is named "The Denzel" after The Cheat's grody pet sponge.
#67604
This troper's old laptop was the Armour-Plated Sloth (being a relatively ancient Fujitsu that had a gradually discolouring metal shell); this entry is currently being written [=APS=]' 3rd replacement, another Fujitsu known as Black View (because it runs Vista). My athame is a modified (and cheap knockoff) katana called Nimcarak. Yes, I'm using a sword as an athame. I also have a staff called Mafortion (because it's copper-shod), a sabre (Paur) and a langseax currently in need of a name. I ''used'' to own a paired set of nagemaki (in the style of Johnny Mo) named Worm and Pidgeon (because their grips were carved with a dragon and a crane), as well as a snake hilted dagger (Thulsa) and a longsword called Karaghul, but those were sold to pay for Paur and food. There was also, until it was stolen, a broad-bladed dagger I called Takse.
#67605
This troper used to work for Australia Post, and some of our DC's fleet of Honda CT-110s had nicknames to reflect their personalities. There was Gremlin who refused to work if it got wet, the Excerise Bike that had had every moving part tightend so that only the strongest posties could operate it, Puffing Billy who produced an alarming amount of exhaust in low gear that no amount of maintainence seemed to fix, Squeaker who had a high-pitched horn, Doohan which had bent crash bars and pannier racks from too many tight turns, and Backfire.
#67606
This troper names nearly everything she owns. To date: an iPhone named ''Granatiere'', the Italian word for grenadier, because the case I put on it looks like a grenade; a blue iPod named ''Cielo sereno'' (peaceful sky); a green iPod nano named ''Mela verde'' (green apple); a bamboo plant named Yao (king of the rock); a car named Soybean (don't ask); and a guitar named Holmes}} Sherlock.
#67607
This troper maintains a familar (laptop), and is currently using Bahamut Zero to edit this. (The third Bahamut computer thus far) and has a habit of naming equipment like the covanent. Idlic Truth? A portable music player. Faithful Retainer? A Geo Metro. Last Refuge? External Hard Drive. Final Messenger? Usb data stick. Even had a faithful PS2 that lasted for so long I named it Immortal. (In a fit of pique, it died a year later, and was suceeded by the Mayfly, a PS3)
#67608
This troperette has three things she's named: her Mac laptop is Caitlin, her hi-def TV is Josephine aka Joe, and her Wii is Wanda Wey. Needless to say, her friend Kaycee has burst into laughter whenever I refer to them as such. One example: #QUOTE# Me: You know, we just bought cable for Joe... #QUOTE# Kaycee: (starts laughing hysterically)
#67609
This Troper has named all of her electronics. Her iPod Touch is named Hoban Hikaru Tightpants-Kirk (after her two favorite spaceship pilots and her two favorite captains), her Mac laptop is named Shasheena Blondeen, and her phone (God rest her soul) was named Superstar Obamaniqua.
#67610
My custom Stratocaster's name? Tim. Short for Timbercaster after it's wooden-brown color.
#67611
This troper's electronics not only have names, but ''genders and personalities'' as well. Her Eee-PC is Squeaky (pronounce three "E"s together, and that's the sound you get) and he's a {{Keet}} who's slightly schizo, due to dual-booting Windows and Ubuntu. Her desktop is Big Ed (Windows) who's slow but means well. Her OriginalFlavour iPod nano is Sparky, a hyperactive GenkiGirl who tends to burn out all her energy in downtime, and then passes out when she's most needed (i.e. the "hold" switch is tempermental, so her battery dies while she's sitting in my purse and I can't use her when I want to). Her phone Sugarplum or Sugar for short is a purple Motorola Rival who loves to gossip and is mostly mute - she can speak, but communicates almost entirely in writing or text (I hate calling people, and text almost exclusively). The "normal" one in the group is her DS Lite Astaire (touchscreen #QUOTE# tap #QUOTE# tapdance #QUOTE# Fred Astaire). There's also her analog watch Venezia (a souvenier from a relative's trip to Venice) who's a slightly CreepyChild Goth Loli. Yes, this troper is aware that she has no life.
#67612
She also once knew of office printers named Stump, Log, Branch, Trunk, etc. after the trees they killed.
#67613
I have a tendency to name every inanimate object I own that's worth more than a few dollars. My three swords are Sode No Shirayuki (since it's actually a replica of Rukia's sword), Wyrmcleaver (a battered, strangely heavy old katana with a handle shaped like a dragon), and Murakumo (a jet-black straight sword; name means "cloud masses" or "gathering clouds"). My old laptop was Anduriel, after Nicodemus' fallen angel partner; the one I got to replace it was Nyarlathotep, and when that one failed, I took its hard drive and put it into Anduriel, and changed its name to Namshiel, as a kind of combination of the two. Back when I had a guitar, I called it Lasciel. My flash drives are Megiddo, a 2GB Cruzer Mini, and Androcles, an 8GB drive designed to fit into my watch.
#67614
This troper not only names everything she owns, but she sometimes even talks to them/yells at them when they malfunction or break like they're real people. Included I have a laptop named Steve, an MP3 player named Chester, Xbox controllers named Dirge (after the Transformer) and Francis (after my favorite character from Left 4 Dead), a PS3 named The Shit (started as a joke...I said one too many times "My PS3 is the shit!"), and a Super Nintendo named Bleep (the controller for it is named Bloop). A more traditional example includes a shotgun named Terminator (intended for Zombie Apocalypse purposes only, because I'm a looney like that).
#67615
Let's see. This troper has a a wooden sword named Longinus (Long story), an iPod Classic named Durandal (from the Marathon series), a PS3 also named Durandal (The Sword this time), a PSP called Rena Lenneth (The two games I play most on my PSP, Star Ocean Second Evolution and Valktrie Proflie: Lenneth), my Laptop is Sakura (From Fate/Stay Night), and her nickname is Kara (After both Kara no Kyoukai and my singing teacher.), and my old laptop was named Manny (From Grim Fandango)
#67616
This Troper didn't start naming her electronics until fairly recently. While browsing for a cover for my new iPod I found one that reminded me of Prince Arthur from the BBC series, given my shipping preferences I immediately named the iPod iMerlin. Now I've also named my PC "Galactica", my external drive "Kim" after a character from a story I wrote a few years back and my Wii "Sheldon Cooper".
#67617
Bazinga!
#67618
This troper has named her computer [Fruits Basket Akito] due to the curious mix of love, hate, resentment and dependence she has on or feels for both of them.
#67619
This troper calls his car 'Shadow' (not in public - he would never give a name to an inanimate object publicly!), because the number plate ends in SHD. It's better than the other suggestions by his friend: "Shed" and his mother: "Shithead" (yeah - my mum's a kook...). His mother calls her car Henry, because it's a Honda. Her last car she called 'Phoebe Nightrider', because it was a 'Nightfire' special edition model with a number plate ending PHE. One of his other friends calls her car 'Madison', because it's a Micra, and her laptop is called Captain Jack.

This troper has a habit of naming his weapons once he's gotten used to them. A weapon without a name is usually a sign that it's not fit in properly. So far, we have..... A greatsword dubbed Thrudgelmir, two katanas, one bearing Sladgelmir, and another Tenshi no Yamato, a saber/straightsword named Absolution, a sword-cane named Regant, a handaxe with a battle axe handle named Brutus, a fantasy inspired throwing axe named Casius, a wooden tachi named Mursashi, and a hunting knife around half the length of his arm dubbed the F.S.U. Knife. Lastly, he has a set of seven knives, originally letter openers, that he calls the Sons of Sett, and a Civil War era bayonet that he calls his "Field Kit". In the nonweapons section, his External Hard Drive is named Einlanzer, his flashdrive is called Sigma, his Sanza Fuze shifts between Langley, or Aran, his laptop is dubbed Merentha, and his Xbox 360 has been titled as the DethBox. Lastly, his entire networking system has been dubbed the Court of Shadows
#67621
Slight additions: The above troper now owns a PSP dubbed Ophelia, and an external Hard Drive named Daedeus, after an area in Sector X of Iji. Also, the Tenshi no Yamato has been returned to it's rightful owner, a friend of the troper.
#67622
Further additions. Troper's new laptop, an ASUS G73J X5, was dubbed Mordhaus, and is occasionally named the SuperBeast. His 360 renamed Madronal (Renamed after a harddrive swap, to fit with the growing BrutalLegend theme), and his media network renamed to The Sea of Black Tears. Still needs a name for his PS3. Plans on naming his Wii, once acquired, Abrwiiham Lincoln. Lastly, the partitioned Hard drive in said Mordhaus are named Zeal, Gaspar, Melchior, and Belthasar
#67623
This troperette is on her third iPod, Pandora (because if you open her up, physically, bad things happen, like she goes out of warrenty) - the sucessor to Breakfast and Penguin... and she's rather a pain, too.
#67624
Kulture here and the names are as follows:
#67625
Alienware desktop named The Monolith, due to red glowy alien sigils on the side (be that black marker from {{deadspace}} or the Dagon monolith)
#67626
My coats are a subversion in that they are simply known as "Black coat" and "grey coat" or Kurz and longinus respectively, but they actually have the most personality of anything I own, since I always wear one of them when out in public, and the passage from one coat to the next is somewhat ritualistic to me.
#67627
My gasmask has been named "Blacklung" due to the fact that the 10 year duration of the activated charcoal has expired, so any inhalation vector toxin will get through it, plus the straw valve is broken, meaning it smells like beer.
#67628
My Australian Bushhat (made by the company named after the item)is named "Indie" due to the fact that the {{Indiana jones}} theme song is inevitably sung when I wear it (My pocket watch and satchel don't help.)
#67629
Finally my .303 Lee Enfield mark 4 rifle is named "Old painful" due to the fact that it's pushing 70 years old and I tend to aim for areas of the human body with high nerve distribution on the targets at the range.
#67630
I have a habit of calling any weapon I possess "The Negotiator".
#67631
This troper calls his Les Paul Custom "Vikki", after alt-model Vikki Blows, "the only thing he'd rather be making sweet music with". His friends frequently CargoShip him with "her".
#67632
This troper tends to be very uncreative when naming drives. They're usually named along the lines of an abbreviation of the manufacturer's name followed by the capacity, then the partition number if there's more than one partition. Eg, a Western Digital 80GB disk with four partitions would be named [=WD80_1=] through [=WD80_4=]. His 465GB RAID striping setup is simply called "RAID Array". The only usual exception to the manufacturer and capacity naming is Boot for the drive which boots the computer, although his Windows 7 computer has the unusal (by his standards) name of Heaven for the boot drive. Yes, I do like Windows 7.
#67633
For computer names, I'm a little more creative. I've given the following names to various computers over the years: Lappy (semi-affectionately called "the crappy lappy" (hey, it was a 486SX/25)), Optima, Ipex, Volcano (because the wretched thing was such a pain to try and keep cool enough to run in the summer), Lian, and Silver.
#67634
After reading this article, I have a new policy for computers which give me trouble. I Call It Scrappy! I hope Mum doesn't mind me naming her computer that after all the trouble I had with the hard drives.
#67635
New computer name to add to the list: Geezer for an old Windows XP laptop (it's an 1800MHz Sempron).
#67636
My external hard drive is listed as "[=SomeSortOfGod=] (S:)" (being where I keep every single game I have), my dad named his car "Toshiro", my mom named her car "Mr. Darcy", and no list goes complete without a computer name: Craptop (5-year old laptop, running Linux out of necessity). I also named my three computers after the three MAGI, although I don't actively call them that (the craptop is Casper, my main computer is Melchior and the dinky little [=HTPC=] in the living room Balthazar). The main computer usually goes by the name [=BADASS-PC=].
#67637
This Lurker jokingly refers to her Toshiba laptop as "Toshitsu", "Missus", "Darling" and "Diana" and sometimes "Fuckhead" when it's in an unco-operative mood. It's name in workspace is TARJA after my mother.
#67638
Her Zen Stone mp3 player is consistently referred as "Möntti" ("lump" in Finnish), and her three flash memories/USB drives are named Memo, Heft (German for notebook) and Kirjasto (Finnish for "library"). The first two are consistently called "Maria" and "Judas". Incidentally, Kirjasto is also referred to as "porn stick" and "Shroomy", because it has her whole yaoi collection in it ("mushrooms" is a catch-all term for anything porny and NSFW in our clique). Her phone is called "Mini-Me" and it's main memory is named "Perverted Archives Offer Lewd Access" or PAOLA.
#67639
Her classmate's systems camera was nicnamed "the Beast" because it was so threatening and looking like it wanted to eat Möntti. In this vein, another friend's standard film camera is referred as "Little Beast".
#67640
She also recently renamed her two static drives to "SHODAN" (C:) and "GLaDOS" (D:). This was mostly done to peeve her nerdy friends, though. (Incidentally, Toshitsu now has GLaDOS' "It's been a long time. How have you been?" as a startup sound which is (unintendedly) fitting since I bother with (D:) more than (C:) anyway.)
#67641
She's a mostly-1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle. In the three years this troper has owned her, he's driven her for a total of about three months. He calls her Agatha von Wulfberg, and they will be going on the Mongol Rally next year together.
#67642
This troper has a tendency to name things. Her laptop is Cerberus with her iPod named Neku. Listing the names of all of her swords would take too long. Her Lacrosse stick was Acrossing Two while her armor was the Pegasus cloth. The four goals owned by her school were each named Terra, Aerith, Rinoa, and Vanille to give her an incentive to protect them. It worked quite well, though it led to some interesting moments.
#67643
On a related note her friend named his bike 'Naked' for the purpose of saying I ride Naked to school.
#67644
This troper owns (so far) a folding pocket-knife with a wooden handle named Mercutio, a small(ish) throwing knife named Loup-Garou, and a boot knife named Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. He also owns a cut-throat razor (nameless for a reason), a fake Swiss Army knife called Clay, and a very sharp and large knife which is technically a kitchen knife and which he is trying very hard not to name. Why yes, he is something of a Nut}} Knife Nut
#67645
{{CelticWhisper}}: I drive a 2008 Subaru ''Legacy'' 2.5i SE. Color: Newport ''Blue'' Pearl. Its name is Raziel. I plan on eventually securing vanity license plates reading "RAZIEL". The extra cost will be worth it if even one person actually gets that joke and comments in a parking lot somewhere.
#67646
Also, my host naming convention is based on the Phantasy Star series. Domain is phantasystar.local, hosts include Gal_Da_Val (Power Mag G5), Rykros (Eee PC netbook), Daughter (X86_64 test/game box), Landale (Laptop), Nurvus (retired Power Mac G4), Aircastle (forgot which one this was), Aerojet (Nokia N810), Camineet (HTPC), and others. My WLAN's SSID is Algo. My WPA2 key is the one thing that doesn't follow the convention, in order to throw people off (and to be an asshole).
#67647
My first computer was named Jefferson, for ThomasJefferson. Eventually, it gave up the ghost, but the hard drive was salvaged and renamed Ayrton, to go with the new computer Gerhard (both former FormulaOne drivers).
#67648

Can you guess its color?), and my violin is Violetta ("violet" in Italian).
#67653

#67654
I call my laptop Expie. My sister's is Inspie.
#67655
This troper has named all of his laptops after anime characters. His first laptop was fittingly named Chi, and his second was named Io. He wanted to get a blue netbook so he could name it Cirno, but they only had them in red, so he got that and named it Tamaki. He tried naming his DS "Atashi", after the rabbit-character that Chi liked in '''Chobits''', but it never stuck.
#67656
This troper named his new red Taurus "Morgan" (German for Morning or ubiquitously Dawn) after the boss plane of Ace Combat Zero and also because of the adage "Red Sky at Morning, Sailor take Warning"
#67657
This Troper new a girl in college named Mary. During a conversation about rednecks naming guns, I decided that I would name my first gun "Mary Beth", picking the first redneck girl name I can think of. Mary got irate because her middle name is Elizabeth, and informed me she'd beat the crap out of me if I ever named a gun after her.
#67658
I tell you that story so I can tell you this one: A year or three later, I'm in Basic Military Training for the Air Force, and we're issued non-firing M-16 rifles (they could have the fire mode switch toggled, they could have the magazine loaded and unloaded, you could charge the bolt, lock it open, slap it shut, even tear the whole thing down and put it back together again like a real gun. Just no firing mechanism, and painted bright blue. We called them "Smurf Killers". Remembering the earlier conversation, I dubbed my weapon "Mary Beth".
#67659
Did I mention I've ''never'' seen FullMetalJacket? Seems I was the only guy in my flight who hadn't, and unwittingly freaked out half my flight.
#67660
This troper named her first laptop Doomie, for the Dragster of Doom from the Beetlejuice cartoon. The second laptop is called the Young Lady's Illustrated Primer, but Nell for short.
#67661
This troper calls his iPOD Ed and his cell phone Ein.
#67662
his new mac is called spike (anybody see a trend?)
#67663
Nothing on God's Green Earth is more awesome to this Maryland Troper than breaking into the claws of Blue Crabs after loudly declaring your wooden crab hammer to be named Mjolnir.

#67670
This troper has named all his computers except his very first one so far, including a laptop named Deep Thought. He also has a portable music player/internet tablet named Vera, successor of an iPod which was given the literal French translation of iPod as a name. His assortment of electronic instruments isn't named yet, though.
#67671
I name my plants. I have two: An Aloe Vera plant called Zoro (because it's green and spiky) and a Tomato Plant called Kratos (oh, the irony).
#67672
This troper named his iPod Touch Andy because he jailbroke it.
#67673
This Troper named his DungeonFighterOnline gunner this way. The guns are named Judge and Jury, and since TheProsecutor was too long a name, TheCourtroom was what This Troper went with.
#67674
This troper's awesome sister has an affinity for this. She's got a tattoo of a butterfly on her arm which is named Hugo and a jackfruit plant named Jackie. And we once owned a small vacuum cleaner named Igor.
#67675
When prompted to name my first car (a green Honda) I responded with Midori. I then went and watched the show.
#67676
Hello, I would like to introduce you to my acoustic guitar Valerie. And this is my electrical Caroline. The desktop computer is Michael and the laptop is Snickers.
#67677
This Troper used the name Rhayader (from Paul Gallico's story ''The Snow Goose'') for a former car on account of the three consecutive letters (RHA) in the licence plate. He's since adopted the tradition of a close friend: naming the car after someone famous who died when the car was acquired. Current car name: Youko, after Youko Rouyama, the late lead singer of the Japanese ProgressiveRock band Vermilion Sands.
#67678
Upon purchase of my first laptop, this troper's then-partner bugged her for days and days to name it. After hearing him whine for nigh on a week over the poor nameless piece of tech, she named it 'Nanashi'. Means 'no name'. He was so mad! She also named her first car Shelia, her second laptop Myfawnwy (yes, from Torchwood), and once nicknamed a rental car 'Betty' because it was small, white, old, and kick ass.
#67679
Believe it or not, this troper has given names to most of the Pokémon plushies that I have in my collection, mainly themed after my fursonas/story characters and my in-game Mon (bar one). These include a Latias named Aurora, a Lugia named Ashera (after a friends character), a Shadow Lugia named Hemos and a Zoroark named Aselia.
#67680

An obvious reference to MGS 4. Duh.
#67682

#67687
This Troper's first two cars were nicknamed The Scorpio and The Liberator. Her third car was originally named "Phoenix 1" (for the ill-fated ship in GalaxyRangers, as it cost me a proverbial arm and a leg, but turned out to be a good investment in the long run). Said car has now acquired the nickname The Tardis, as it carries few passengers, but seems to hold an insane amount of cargo. The computer is named Green Sky, after her favorite book and video game.
#67688
This troper's friend drives a retired hearse. This troper privately calls it The Corpse Carrier.

#67698
This troper is a bit of a KnifeNut, but only one of them is named: a black, ceremonial-style dagger affectionately known as Eleanor. Both of my cars so far have also been named: Droopy (a '97 Hyundai Elantra named after the old Hanna-Barbera character because it had such a pathetically wimpy horn) and Petey (a 03' PT Cruiser named because PT = Petey when you say it out loud, and because it means the car is named Peter T. Cruiser).
#67699
This troper named his '88 oldsmobile delta Wander.
#67700
This troper's laptop is called Gallifrey (often shortened to just 'Frey' when he's annoying me) and on her old PC, although it had no overall named, had named drives - Aaron and David. This Troper has had a line of computers/electronics with Arthurian names (Merlin, Galahad, etc.), weapon names (Dur[a/e]ndal, Mjolnir, etc.), or both (Excalibur, aka "Callie"). His current beast of a computer (yes, it runs Crysis quite well, thank you) is named Gwenivere, aka "Gwen."
#67707
This Troper, in his Colorguard days, had a rifle (of the non-functional variety) that was lent to him by the school. He named it "Victoria", and called it "Ria" for short. Sort of subverted, however, since the only reason was because it was Rifle no. 14 in the school's inventory, and had "R14" on the butt. Because R14 is leetspeak for "Ria"
#67708
My laptop is named Lliana. Two ls, one N. And don't you forget it.
#67709
Not me, but my sister named her computer, uh, Buttface. And before that, she named a computer Stalin, because files tend to mysteriously disappear on it. So yeah.
#67710
Every single one of this troper's instruments has had a name. It's something of a tradition. I've had Vincent and Victor (a flute and a sax respectively) and my friend calls her flute Kenny. My other friend wants a cactus named Frederick. A clarinet player in this troper's band calls his clarinet.... Claire. Another friend named her guitar and her bass guitar, and has yet to think of one for her violin and her orchestral bass.
#67711
I named my rifle (a Mosin Nagant) Viktor (after Sgt. Reznov).
#67712

#67713
This Troper is in band. Lots of people name their instruments (usually feminine names, as usual). My two clarinets are named Melancholy (my first one, that always sounded sad when I played), and Bernadotte (expensive, wooden, made in France). My bass guitar is currently nameless, but will soon have a name on the grounds that it is one of my prized possessions.
#67714
This Troper's potted Sensitive Plant is named Charlie. I tried putting ornaments on it the first Christmas I owned it, but it fell over like the tree in ACharlieBrownChristmas. Now it's strong enough to hold a strand of garland and lots of mini bulbs, but the name stuck.
#67715
This Troper named her USB TOM, which stands for Traveling On Memory. My computer also has a name: Vincent. Why? I don't know, it sounded cool at the time.

#67718
This Troper's always kept to some sort of naming convention for his electronics, and it's changed over the years. Originally, he had a Compac PC he called Jables; when it broke, his next PC was named Kage in tribute (and to continue on the Tenacious D reference). But, when he go the laptop he's been using, TT decided to overhaul the naming specification. Now his electronics follow the Bonne Family's naming specification, an homage to the Megaman Legends series. His laptop is Gesselschaft, the external HDD connected to it at times is Theodore Bruno, the flash drives are Draches, any media like SD cards are Zuuf Geleidos, his DS is Gustaff, his Wii is Marlwolf, the PS2 he owns is Balcon Gerade... the only things that aren't named after the Bonne Machines are his iPods, Klaymoor and Bola (but they still follow the MML naming).
#67719
This troper folded a little paper crane and named him Viva, after her classroom's name. Viva's full name is Viva la Vida, which is after a {{Coldplay}}'s song. He's kinda like a CompanionCube to her now.

#67724
I also have a Shimpaku Juniper Bonsai tree named "Bonzy"
#67725
This troper calls pretty much everything "Alfred F.Jones" "Gilbert" or "Berwald".
#67726
This troper doesn't very often name things (Although after reading this page, he wants to.), but he's named his new laptop Yatagarasu and his flash drive Chernobyl, both serving mainly as references to his favorite {{Touhou}} character, Utsuho Reiuji and her control over nuclear fusion. He also had an SD Card that he named Dancing Mad, although he lost all of the data on it afterwards.
#67727
This troper names quite a bit of his property... His desktop is named Blackbird, his laptop is named Omar, his iPod Touch is named Andy because it was jailbroken, his cameras are named Robert and Cornell, for Robert and Cornell Capa, the professional psuedonyms of two famous photojournalists.
#67728
I once exaggerated this in a playthrough of ''{{Postal}} 2''. ''Every'' melee weapon received a name: Pratchett the scythe, Leonard the pitchfork, the Axtinguisher... There was even a suggestion to name the machete I threw away before the first day ended.
#67729

#67734
The Bastard joins the gaming family that consists of her husband's [=PS3=], the Monolith, and their two computers, Candamir (Mac) and the Tiamat (PC).
#67735
This troper has taken to naming his electronic devices after stars. #67741
I named my mp3 player "Oblivion" after discovering that I become oblivious to everything when I'm plugged into it. I decided to follow the theme and name my laptop "Elysian". Then I promptly broke the theme after I named my sewing machine "Lilo". (Yes, as in "Lilo and Stitch".) Then I started naming my sketchbooks "Viltvodle (insert roman numeral here)"...
#67742

I've named my old Yamaha PSR-240 keyboard "The Smoker." The plastic is yellowing, it could die any day, and it sounds terrible without some form of external voice box (a MIDI something; usually my laptop and Ableton Live although I'm not averse to sound modules). The only reason I keep it around is because it looks kinda cool when I take it on stage.

This Troper ( who is somewhat of a {{KnifeNut}} stole a kitchen knife (from her own kitchen) and wants to call it something. Sometimes she's even brought the knife to school and went to the toilet to stab the rolls of paper for the lulz. Her friend helped her to choose the name Twinkie for it.

This troper has named his straight razor Joana, and his laptop Lolita.

This troper, who harbors a lifelong dream of playing Elphaba, named her iPod Fiyero because she almost always has it on her person to the point where it's very nearly her own personal LoveInterest (sad, isn't it?). Also, it just sounds cool.

This Troper named her braces Seme and Uke (because one was on the top and one on the bottom). Now that they've been removed, she has two faithful, invisible, and annoying retainers called Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

This Troper likes to name her gadgets and devices in Japanese derivatives of their brand names, just for fun. Her Sony cellphone is "Soniko", her iPod Shuffle is "Shuufu". Her siblings have the same habit; her brother naming his KAIKAI MP3 player "Kaikai", her sister naming her iPod Touch "Touchi", and her Motorola cellphone "Motoko". Their shared devices and consoles follow the brand-naming, though not the "Japanisation", as their PSP Slim is called "Mr. Slim", and their Nintendo Wii is "Wiivern".

I have a scorpion pendant (like a paperweight with a scorpion in it) that I call Ty. There's a reason for this. The largest storm on record is called Super Typhoon Ty. A typhoon is another name for a hurricane. And the song Rock You like a Hurricane is by a band called.... the Scorpions.

This troper will soon be acquiring a 1960's Harmony Archtop acoustic guitar, found in a local guitar shop with tons of scratches, a cracked f-hole, and damaged tuning machines. It has fantastic tone. The second it leaves the shop it will be re-named Firewood.
