A long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and my father was a teenager, his friend decided to name everything that could deserve a name after LordOfTheRings characters. The tradition has stood the test of time, comic through my generation. This computer is named Faramir. My iPod is named Pippin, and the external hard-drive is called Gimly. My father's computer is named Arwen. My step-mother's computer is named Merry(I think). There's also Grandma's Eowyn and the diseased, almost older than me Frodo. He fought bravely, but he was just too old.

The iPod Nano is Lia (long story that probably wouldn't make any sense to anyone else anyway) while its successor iTouch has been dubbed Omni, the cell phone is Fonito (Spanish for "little phone", and the current one is the third to carry the name), the desktop computers are [=FrankenPuter=] (for the "piece here, bit there" upgrade style) and Vlad, and the laptop is currently known as Lurch (''TheAddamsFamily'' reference, natch). She's currently trying to figure out suitable names for her husband's Macintosh and for her GPS (naming husband's GPS might be nice, too).

When I got rid of the last one, I got a grey machine, and named it Gandalf the Grey. It died in a thunderstorm a couple years later, to be replaced with a white computer from the same company. He named the new machine "Gandalf the White".

This troper names her iPods as well, as more or less everyone in her family does to tell them apart when plugged in. Her first iPod, a Mini, went through a course of names like Jill, Johannes and The Punisher, while her current iPod Video is either Albert or Alfred depending on whether her computer's being more of a Monte Cristo or more of a Krolock.

This troper named her first [=iPod=] Mini iKanda, but it kept being cranky at the worst possible times -- like the actual Kanda, funnily enough.

This troper is, for one, impressed that someone else on this site likes TanzDerVampire enough to name an iPod after a character from it. In spite of adding 98% of the Tanz references on this site, though, she herself hasn't named anything after characters from it. One of her iPods, however, is named Jareth the Goblin King for pure RuleOfCool reasons, and the other is named Amber Sweet because it has to be updated constantly and pitches a fit if it isn't. Her cell phone, meanwhile, was named The Houseplant, as she found herself having to threaten it into working properly, much like Crowley in GoodOmens has to threaten his houseplants to grow.

Now ''that'' is awesome. (On an unrelated and definitely TMI note, this troper wears a lot of sports bras, simply because she's annoyed by the clasps. She's finally found a normal bra that she can open with barely a flick of one hand and upon revealing this glorious fact with some excitement to her elder sister, got only a somewhat baffled response of 'wait, like a knife?' So it's now called Switchy. The removal of Switchy tends to be followed by a lot of references to a certain scene from The Doll's House set in a dark alleyway. And there is also a camcorder named Lestat, but that's only because it's beautiful but prone to aggravatingly ''moronic'' choices of action.)

The same troper with the Amber Sweet iPod also has two flash drives: Alfred (small, pink and easily jarred) and Cesare (very thin, black, and takes forever to "wake up" so she can use it).

The ''other'' troper above now has two laptops, one Mac named Sheldon and one PC named Sweeney. The reasoning being, Sweeney's a boxy black laptop with one white label, and is swift, subtle, and clean, while Sheldon is flashy and attractive but infuriatingly contrary, prone to overheating, and crippled by damage to its parts.

Seconded. This troper's old clarinet (he hasn't named the newer one yet) is called Dalton, after Dalton's atomic theory. My iPod is called "Das üPod, doch!". My USB drive is called "Spetsnaz V" (4 GB, after going through 128, 256, 1024 and 2048 MB), my computer is called "Blackbox II", my phone is "Telemark-7". But the best one is my car, a Pontiac Sunfire. Since good parking room is at a very, very great premium in college, I always used to park ''very'' far away from my classrooms, and in Mexico, when you say "it's fucking far away", you say "está hasta la verga", which literally means "it's all the way near the dick". After a semester of never getting good parking, a friend of mine ended up calling my ride "The Big Dick" :D

Current name for the Sunfire is "Kakhaber", after soccer team AC Milan defender Kakhaber Kaladze.

On a side note, I also tend to name my school projects. My CPLD from digital electronics, for example, was called "Altered Beast" because it was made by Altera. The radio transceiver we used for digital communications used the Simple Media Access Control (S.M.A.C.) protocol, and since understanding it was quite annoying, we called it "Miriam Godwinson". Our switches for LAN networks were called "TV-kun" and "Cantildo". Using Main/FunWithAcronyms, my error correction project for data transmission was called "Hamming Algorithm Recovery Unit for Harnessing Information" (H.A.R.U.H.I.) and my DNS server was called "And Yet Another Name-Address Mapping Index" (A.Y.A.N.A.M.I.).

This troper's new laptop is Archeopteryx (Archie for short); previous computers have been Compy (old laptop, after the procompsognathus in 'Jurassic Park', as it was small, ancient, and rather stupid) and T-rex (family PC, as it is large, ancient and rather stupid). Future computers will probably follow this naming pattern and be named after other extinct birds or dinosaurs.

This Troper mentally refers to all his gaming consoles as it's name followed by "-kun" (None of my consoles are girls. That would be too weird), though I never call them that out loud. I also refer to my computer regularly as a "piece of crap", enough to warrant it being a name. The system's actual name is HAL, though. This troper thinks that one of the cool things about being a manager is getting to name an entire lab full of computers at once. The most recent department had its machines named after the members of Chor Tempest from ''{{Simoun}}'', with "Tempus" and "Spatium" as the workgroup servers.

This troper originally planned to go with a naming schene of hoverships from TheMatrix. The first computer he bought was Nebuchadnezzar, and his nonfunctional laptop is Logos. However, he picked up his newer computer after seeing TengenToppaGurrenLagann, so the new one is Dai-Gurren.

This troper has named all his computers consistently. The laptops he got during college were Mireille and Kirika (ironically, the latter eventually failed due to memory problems). His work laptop is Kagura. His first desktop machine was Seras, and the current one is Kana. He doubts, however, that he will ever own a machine awesome enough to be called Motoko.

My laptop is either known as The Lappy or Al Blu, which inspired an idea for a story about a guy who can give human form to sophisticated-enough electronics. Her DS might be named Soul, since it's red and black, while her brand new computer is leaning on Ichi-tan for no particular reason other than it's all black. Recently named her external hard drive GLaDOS, her laptop's been nicknamed Kyon, and the white flash drive is now deemed Shiro-chan. Still deciding on the other ones.

This troper tends to name his items after celestial bodies or stuff relating to said bodies. He calls his new DS Lite Luna (since it's the silver one), for some reason calls his new flash drive Tournesol (aka Sunflower), or Otenko on occasion, due to its color scheme, his backpack is Terra, since it's often so heavy, he must put it on the ground every few minutes or risk back damage. In a subversion of his own naming scheme, he named his PS2 Alice Margatroid and his laptop Utsuho Reiuji, the latter because it often gets ''really'' hot, even with an outside cooling system, among other things. Nuke bullets from the originating character help, too.

And this troper called his old laptop Kanako in reference (and parody) to the 'YuYu Co.' computers in some Walfas flash animations. (Quite coincidental that I named my laptop in the same theme as the troper directly above: 6th-stage bosses.) However, now it's fallen down to Rumia status (The monitor's backlight failed, and you can barely see anything on the screen.) The replacement has yet to be named. I would mention my the names I gave my RP characters' weapons, but I don't thing anyone had done so yet, and that this doesn't seem like the right place.

Along with naming the knife at work Yellowblade, ea also named his Halo 2 Spartan Samuel-034 after the first Spartan to die in combat.

Various other kitchen implements at work have become known as Sawtooth (serrated knife, frequently Between The Teeth) Thing One and Two (deep fryers) Nico (The brand of the grill) and DukeNukem (The hot-storage)

I call it Baby, my sister calls it this too, but following the HarryPotter theme of the last two also calls it Luna or Cho. Due to it being white in color, my brother calls it Galvatron (the other car I learned to drive on was Megatron for it's tank like, gas guzzling nature. It died and we got the other one instead, my brother wanted to follow the theme.).

Current desktop is called Breadbox (it's about the size of one), and its hard drives are Lovelace and Babbage; mp3 player is Blackjack Betty, and the laptop is Little L. This troper and people he knows suspect computers of having developed rough AIs. One friend noticed any computer he didn't name Lazerous never survived past its first major disaster. This troper would rather not go into details about his... incident with a desktop he named "Hal".

The computer this troper uses is "Old Bastard", for being a decade old and horribly tempermental - he only uses it for the Internet. His GuitarHero guitar controller is "Caliban", after one of the names he uses for his in-game bands. More recently, he named his PSP Asimov.

My old iPod Mini was named Rocko, but I eventually started calling it the "diePod" partly as a Simpsons homage and partly because the battery on it was screwed up. My current iPod is named Oto (Japanese for noise or sound, I think). My flash drive was named Flash Gordon until recently; then I watched TTGL, noticed that my flash drive is small, red and combined with things, and stole some previous Troper's idea and renamed it Lagann. My ''boken'' are named Kin and Gin (gold and silver).

My sister is, however, a far greater offender. She has named my current car (an Altima) Slash, the car we had before that (a Bonneville) Bono, another car (a red Element) the Crimson Chin, and was even the person who named our little half-brother.

I think we get it from our dad. He named his new computer Mighty Mac (guess what OS it runs!) and his car, a Volkswagon, Helmut. (I believe his explanation was along the lines of "it's a good German name.") My stepmom's not exempt, either: she named her car (a red Golf) Clifford, and ''even has a Clifford plushie on the dash.''

Her high school's set of glockenspiels are named Old Man Denke and Danke jr, the xylophones being Sweeney and Lovett, the suspended cymbal Cullen and the sleigh bells Dahmer. Her generic mp3 player is currently dubbed Taiker. Erm, there's a bizarre theme with musical instruments being named after serial killers.

I've built five computers: Aeris, Cloud, Freya, Sylphide and Sesshomaru. My drives and peripherals are named after authors: Coulter, Sowell, Twain, Lewis, Steyn, etc.

This troper's laptop is named Rin. His flash drive is named Fate. In retrospect, he should have given his flash drive a male name, IfYouKnowWhatIMean.

This troper knows a guy from Russia who got up to some unspecified business back home awhile back, where he had an assault rifle named "Gloria" (after the Patti Smithe song, which is about hooking up with the titular girl). He is now living in America, and in lieu of his gun has an Italian switchblade which he carries everywhere and affectionately refers to as Glorietta. He has not the slightest idea why everyone finds this a bit unsettling.

This troper calls her grandmother's computer Inchy(R.I.P., poor thing seems to have gone to the big office in the sky), due to the fact that it would take her hours to get online. Inchy grew a personality after she noticed it seeming to warm up to her and taking a little less time - he was a grumpy old man who was lonely because he didn't get used, and then she would show up and play for hours. Her aunt's is Crash, for its tendency to crap out on the internet. Her iTunes is Tuner and her iPod is Blaster, while her brother names his consecutive iPods after the Die Hard Movies(the current one is "[Brother]: With a Vengeance". Her friend calls the laptop Lappy, though she may start calling her Flash, since the batteries are screwed and even when plugged in, her batterly light flashes. The desktop awaits his moniker.

Edit: Flash is not the laptop's name. This troper has decided it was male and dubbed it Kup, because he's seen lots of trouble and is battle-scarred(a corner of the frame is cracked and disconnected from its hinge). Also, whatever made the batteries work has been left out. Despite all this, he's still going and ready for action. Incidentally, this means the desktop is Hot Rod.

This troper named her laptop Thorin, and then it died. Still-extant computers are Charlie and Marius, which got shortened to Merry. The family GPS is Gwen, short for Guinevere; going with the same theme, her MP3 is Bedivere, and her flashdrive, Excalibur. While her phone doesn't have a name, she's nicknamed it the "Tardis phone" because it's blue, boxy, and bigger on the inside.

My memory's terrible, so I have a text file on my computer to remind myself of the names I've given my various inanimate objects. As I recall, it started when a friend of mine called my monstrous Epson printer {{Godzilla}}, and things just went downhill from there. The laptop I am typing this on is Nightblazer, which slightly modifies my screenname. My Xbox 360 is Optimus Prime; my Wii is Ike; my DS is Marth; my [=PS2=] is Knightblazer, hearkening back to the original influence for my screenname; my PSP is Siegfried; my iPod is Harry (after the first singing role I ever had); and bringing everything full circle back to the TropeNamer, my car is Serenity]] Malcolm Reynolds, upon further consideration.

I've named my guitar Grace after the first song I learned to play on it, my computer monitor Sampson after Samsung Electronics, and my printer DJ, short for Deskjet. In the event that I ''do'' get a gun, I will name it Daisuke.

This Troper's old computer is named KOS-MOS, after much debate. The iPod Nano is Aphex, the new computer has not been named yet, and my old GameCube was Pik (after Pikmin). Throughout the history of my computers, I have had a number of names for the systems and the drive: Luke was my first computer, I forget the second, the third is Rsheena, after a fellow [=RPer=], the fourth was Den and is still sitting on the name, and the current one is named Imite. My hard drive names include Kuriboh, Tempo & Roll (Tempo being an Original Character), Hikaru & Samus (may they rest in peace till I can afford to replace them). My current laptop is still sitting on a temporary name (portable den), but my iPod is Bal Kheldin, after an original series I've written a few chapters into, my flash drive in Alpua (from my own online moniker), and my bike has been Lightning for well over a decade -- when I have one (she gets pissy that I don't take better care of her). My first car was Yreons, and my current wagon is Rustbucket. For a while I had myself Nessy, an original NES, and, until after I had a DS, Cobalt my GBA SP. The DS still sits nameless, though surely it's only a matter of time until I find something that fits.

While any names this troper may have given things are usually boring and don't stick, one of this troper's friends has named her car "Jenny Haniver".

This troper has named a number of things that he owns. Most prominent is a Chinese Jian sword called Caroline, named after a girl he knew in primary school with the sharpest wit he'd ever seen. Also, most of his computer parts have names, with a flash drive called Commissar, an external hard drive called Empire (it ruled the PC for a time), and an MP3 player called Stalin (it had a habit of... purging songs willy-nilly). He was named long ago by my aunt as a child, and he remains the only household implement with a name.

She gives her non-styled wigs the same name as their color, in some other language; the ones that are already styled, she calls them by the name of their respective character. The wigheads have names, too. Also, her sewing machine is called Gurren-kun because the first piece of fabric I used it on had a cloud pattern.

This Troper's named most of his computers and memory sticks. My old laptop was named JordanKennedy, in reference to ExploitationNow. The current desktop is AgathaHetrodyne. I started acquiring USB sticks before I had access to highspeed internet at home, and named the first two accordingly: Blackbeard and AnneBonnie, for the reasons those names probably evoke. More recently I've continued the theme with newer, bigger sticks even though they don't get used for that any more: EdwardTeach and CalicoJack. If I ever do get a gun, I plan to name it Nanoha. My reason will be 'wishful thinking,' which, under the circumstances, should suffice.

This troper's boss (former US Army sniper) elucidated to me on the directive many Drill Instructors give their charges to name their weapons; it's a psychological tactic. Naming the weapon is intended to make a recruit have an attachment to it beyond it just being their gun, the reasoning being that if they form said attachment they will be more diligent about using and maintaining it; understandable, considering that it may be the difference between life and death. It's also to impress upon the recruit the possibility that they may one day be in a situation where all they have to rely on is their weapon. And also, I have named some of my items. My PC I call "Compy". My electric guitar I call "Kenny", for the Kenny(from South Park) sticker behind the bridge. My 360 is called "Skynet", and I do have a pistol, which I have named "Winona" in honor of John Chricton from {{FarScape}}. She's so pretty.

My first iPod, a Gen 1 Nano, was named Zilla. I had been complaining about how it was being uncooperative, and was told that maybe it would like me better if I gave it a name. Zilla was the first thing I could think of, so Zilla it was. It was eventually replaced with an identical iPod named Clover, to continue the theme. Clover was great and could have served me well for many more years, but then I was given...

A red Gen 4 Nano. Since I had jumped from a Gen 1 to a Gen 4, I decided that the name should similarly be a step up from mere monsters to something more terrifying. My thought process was along the lines of "My new iPod is red. Giygas is red. Let's name it Giygas!"

Our former PC, before we all got laptops, was named Nemo. Because I was obsessed with that movie at the time. Yep.

I named my laptop Kitten. When she was given to me, my dad was talking about how I needed to take excellent care of it, not handle it roughly, etc, and the way he said it reminded me of how one would talk about a pet. Also, the login icon was a picture of an adorable kitten.

Lastly, I named my Android phone HARVE_VISTA, though I usually just call her Harve. Two reasons. One, said phone is even less agreeable than Zilla was. I'm convinced that if she had intelligence, she'd hate me. Two, chmod makes a pretty neat ringtone.

Patchouli Knowledge, her laptop. Named as such because it’s usually surrounded by books, holds a large amount of information, and it doesn’t leave the house much.

Felix St. Felix, her phone. She’s thinking about renaming it Joshua, because it’s kind of a {{Jerkass}}.

This troper again; I've started giving names to my preferred weapons in videogames. I've already gone completely nuts with it, naming a propane tank I found Hank, killing a Hunter by whacking it with the tank repeatedly, then claiming Hank was so BadAss he ''killed the Hunter with his face''.

This Troper once had a black Geo Metro and a can of yellow non-water soluble paint at his disposal. For no reason at all, he painted the words "Danger" and "Danger Squad" on the sides, hood, and trunk. From this day forward, it was forever known, as The Danger Car, not only by him, but by the entire community. On top of this, he had a missing sun roof which he patched with metallic tape. Seeing what a poor job he did with the paint, he then used the hardy metallic tape in place of the "Danger" and "Danger Squad" lettering. The car itself was an average, around town car, but after being christened with yellow paint and metallic tape, it took several levels in Badassery.

My Strat is named Ray, both after Stevie Ray Vaughan and since I wanted a "space-age name" to fit the style. For tropers who are unfamiliar with the phrase, it's a Japanese saying that roughly translates to "dumplings before flowers," but actually means "substance before style." Because, while not flashy or stylish, it serves its purpose admirably.

This troper has named his new cordless wall phone Nappa because it has a habit of falling on the floor whenever the door slams and yelling "GODDAMMIT NAPPA!" is so very cathartic.

This troper names mostly everything she owns. She had a stuffed cat named Penelope, an acoustic guitar named Thunder(a boy), and an electric named Lightning(Thunder's sister), and her X-Box 360 is named "The Denzel" after The Cheat's grody pet sponge.

This troper's old laptop was the Armour-Plated Sloth (being a relatively ancient Fujitsu that had a gradually discolouring metal shell); this entry is currently being written [=APS=]' 3rd replacement, another Fujitsu known as Black View (because it runs Vista). My athame is a modified (and cheap knockoff) katana called Nimcarak. Yes, I'm using a sword as an athame. I also have a staff called Mafortion (because it's copper-shod), a sabre (Paur) and a langseax currently in need of a name. I ''used'' to own a paired set of nagemaki (in the style of Johnny Mo) named Worm and Pidgeon (because their grips were carved with a dragon and a crane), as well as a snake hilted dagger (Thulsa) and a longsword called Karaghul, but those were sold to pay for Paur and food. There was also, until it was stolen, a broad-bladed dagger I called Takse.

This troper used to work for Australia Post, and some of our DC's fleet of Honda CT-110s had nicknames to reflect their personalities. There was Gremlin who refused to work if it got wet, the Excerise Bike that had had every moving part tightend so that only the strongest posties could operate it, Puffing Billy who produced an alarming amount of exhaust in low gear that no amount of maintainence seemed to fix, Squeaker who had a high-pitched horn, Doohan which had bent crash bars and pannier racks from too many tight turns, and Backfire.

Her Eee-PC is Squeaky (pronounce three "E"s together, and that's the sound you get) and he's a {{Keet}} who's slightly schizo, due to dual-booting Windows and Ubuntu. Her desktop is Big Ed (Windows) who's slow but means well. Her OriginalFlavour iPod nano is Sparky, a hyperactive GenkiGirl who tends to burn out all her energy in downtime, and then passes out when she's most needed (i.e. the "hold" switch is tempermental, so her battery dies while she's sitting in my purse and I can't use her when I want to). Her phone Sugarplum or Sugar for short is a purple Motorola Rival who loves to gossip and is mostly mute - she can speak, but communicates almost entirely in writing or text (I hate calling people, and text almost exclusively). The "normal" one in the group is her DS Lite Astaire (touchscreen #QUOTE# tap #QUOTE# tapdance #QUOTE# Fred Astaire). There's also her analog watch Venezia (a souvenier from a relative's trip to Venice) who's a slightly CreepyChild Goth Loli. Yes, this troper is aware that she has no life.

I have a tendency to name every inanimate object I own that's worth more than a few dollars. My three swords are Sode No Shirayuki (since it's actually a replica of Rukia's sword), Wyrmcleaver (a battered, strangely heavy old katana with a handle shaped like a dragon), and Murakumo (a jet-black straight sword; name means "cloud masses" or "gathering clouds"). My old laptop was Anduriel, after Nicodemus' fallen angel partner; the one I got to replace it was Nyarlathotep, and when that one failed, I took its hard drive and put it into Anduriel, and changed its name to Namshiel, as a kind of combination of the two. Back when I had a guitar, I called it Lasciel. My flash drives are Megiddo, a 2GB Cruzer Mini, and Androcles, an 8GB drive designed to fit into my watch.

This troper not only names everything she owns, but she sometimes even talks to them/yells at them when they malfunction or break like they're real people. This Troper didn't start naming her electronics until fairly recently. While browsing for a cover for my new iPod I found one that reminded me of Prince Arthur from the BBC series, given my shipping preferences I immediately named the iPod iMerlin. Now I've also named my PC "Galactica", my external drive "Kim" after a character from a story I wrote a few years back and my Wii "Sheldon Cooper".

This troper calls his car 'Shadow' (not in public - he would never give a name to an inanimate object publicly!), because the number plate ends in SHD. It's better than the other suggestions by his friend: "Shed" and his mother: "Shithead" (yeah - my mum's a kook...). His mother calls her car Henry, because it's a Honda. Her last car she called 'Phoebe Nightrider', because it was a 'Nightfire' special edition model with a number plate ending PHE. One of his other friends calls her car 'Madison', because it's a Micra, and her laptop is called Captain Jack.

This troper has a habit of naming his weapons once he's gotten used to them. A weapon without a name is usually a sign that it's not fit in properly. So far, we have..... A greatsword dubbed Thrudgelmir, two katanas, one bearing Sladgelmir, and another Tenshi no Yamato, a saber/straightsword named Absolution, a sword-cane named Regant, a handaxe with a battle axe handle named Brutus, a fantasy inspired throwing axe named Casius, a wooden tachi named Mursashi, and a hunting knife around half the length of his arm dubbed the F.S.U. Knife. Lastly, he has a set of seven knives, originally letter openers, that he calls the Sons of Sett, and a Civil War era bayonet that he calls his "Field Kit". Alienware desktop named The Monolith, due to red glowy alien sigils on the side (be that black marker from {{deadspace}} or the Dagon monolith)

My coats are a subversion in that they are simply known as "Black coat" and "grey coat" or Kurz and longinus respectively, but they actually have the most personality of anything I own, since I always wear one of them when out in public, and the passage from one coat to the next is somewhat ritualistic to me.

My gasmask has been named "Blacklung" due to the fact that the 10 year duration of the activated charcoal has expired, so any inhalation vector toxin will get through it, plus the straw valve is broken, meaning it smells like beer.

My Australian Bushhat (made by the company named after the item)is named "Indie" due to the fact that the {{Indiana jones}} theme song is inevitably sung when I wear it (My pocket watch and satchel don't help.)

Finally my .303 Lee Enfield mark 4 rifle is named "Old painful" due to the fact that it's pushing 70 years old and I tend to aim for areas of the human body with high nerve distribution on the targets at the range.

This troper tends to be very uncreative when naming drives. They're usually named along the lines of an abbreviation of the manufacturer's name followed by the capacity, then the partition number if there's more than one partition. Eg, a Western Digital 80GB disk with four partitions would be named [=WD80_1=] through [=WD80_4=]. His 465GB RAID striping setup is simply called "RAID Array". The only usual exception to the manufacturer and capacity naming is Boot for the drive which boots the computer, although his Windows 7 computer has the unusal (by his standards) name of Heaven for the boot drive. Yes, I do like Windows 7.

For computer names, I'm a little more creative. I've given the following names to various computers over the years: Lappy (semi-affectionately called "the crappy lappy" (hey, it was a 486SX/25)), Optima, Ipex, Volcano (because the wretched thing was such a pain to try and keep cool enough to run in the summer), Lian, and Silver.

After reading this article, I have a new policy for computers which give me trouble. I Call It Scrappy! I hope Mum doesn't mind me naming her computer that after all the trouble I had with the hard drives.

New computer name to add to the list: Geezer for an old Windows XP laptop (it's an 1800MHz Sempron).

My external hard drive is listed as "[=SomeSortOfGod=] (S:)" (being where I keep every single game I have), my dad named his car "Toshiro", my mom named her car "Mr. Darcy", and no list goes complete without a computer name: Craptop (5-year old laptop, running Linux out of necessity). I also named my three computers after the three MAGI, although I don't actively call them that (the craptop is Casper, my main computer is Melchior and the dinky little [=HTPC=] in the living room Balthazar). The main computer usually goes by the name [=BADASS-PC=].

This Lurker jokingly refers to her Toshiba laptop as "Toshitsu", "Missus", "Darling" and "Diana" and sometimes "Fuckhead" when it's in an unco-operative mood. It's name in workspace is TARJA after my mother.

Her Zen Stone mp3 player is consistently referred as "Möntti" ("lump" in Finnish), and her three flash memories/USB drives are named Memo, Heft (German for notebook) and Kirjasto (Finnish for "library"). The first two are consistently called "Maria" and "Judas". Incidentally, Kirjasto is also referred to as "porn stick" and "Shroomy", because it has her whole yaoi collection in it ("mushrooms" is a catch-all term for anything porny and NSFW in our clique). Her phone is called "Mini-Me" and it's main memory is named "Perverted Archives Offer Lewd Access" or PAOLA.

Her classmate's systems camera was nicnamed "the Beast" because it was so threatening and looking like it wanted to eat Möntti. In this vein, another friend's standard film camera is referred as "Little Beast".

She also recently renamed her two static drives to "SHODAN" (C:) and "GLaDOS" (D:). This was mostly done to peeve her nerdy friends, though. (Incidentally, Toshitsu now has GLaDOS' "It's been a long time. How have you been?" as a startup sound which is (unintendedly) fitting since I bother with (D:) more than (C:) anyway.)

She's a mostly-1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle. In the three years this troper has owned her, he's driven her for a total of about three months. He calls her Agatha von Wulfberg, and they will be going on the Mongol Rally next year together.

This troper has a tendency to name things. Her laptop is Cerberus with her iPod named Neku. Listing the names of all of her swords would take too long. Her Lacrosse stick was Acrossing Two while her armor was the Pegasus cloth. The four goals owned by her school were each named Terra, Aerith, Rinoa, and Vanille to give her an incentive to protect them. It worked quite well, though it led to some interesting moments.

On a related note her friend named his bike 'Naked' for the purpose of saying I ride Naked to school.

This Troper used the name Rhayader (from Paul Gallico's story ''The Snow Goose'') for a former car on account of the three consecutive letters (RHA) in the licence plate. He's since adopted the tradition of a close friend: naming the car after someone famous who died when the car was acquired. Current car name: Youko, after Youko Rouyama, the late lead singer of the Japanese ProgressiveRock band Vermilion Sands.

Upon purchase of my first laptop, this troper's then-partner bugged her for days and days to name it. After hearing him whine for nigh on a week over the poor nameless piece of tech, she named it 'Nanashi'. Means 'no name'. He was so mad! She also named her first car Shelia, her second laptop Myfawnwy (yes, from Torchwood), and once nicknamed a rental car 'Betty' because it was small, white, old, and kick ass.

Believe it or not, this troper has given names to most of the Pokémon plushies that I have in my collection, mainly themed after my fursonas/story characters and my in-game Mon (bar one). These include a Latias named Aurora, a Lugia named Ashera (after a friends character), a Shadow Lugia named Hemos and a Zoroark named Aselia.

I refuse to play SuperSmashBrosBrawl without my Gamecube controller, named '''THE CONTROLLER OF DESTINY!!!'''. I call it that because I'm the only one who can wield it (the thumb pad on the stick came off, making it uncomfortable for some people to use).

This Troper is in band. Lots of people name their instruments (usually feminine names, as usual). My two clarinets are named Melancholy (my first one, that always sounded sad when I played), and Bernadotte (expensive, wooden, made in France). My bass guitar is currently nameless, but will soon have a name on the grounds that it is one of my prized possessions.

Originally, he had a Compac PC he called Jables; when it broke, his next PC was named Kage in tribute (and to continue on the Tenacious D reference). But, when he go the laptop he's been using, TT decided to overhaul the naming specification. Now his electronics follow the Bonne Family's naming specification, an homage to the Megaman Legends series. His laptop is Gesselschaft, the external HDD connected to it at times is Theodore Bruno, the flash drives are Draches, any media like SD cards are Zuuf Geleidos, his DS is Gustaff, his Wii is Marlwolf, the PS2 he owns is Balcon Gerade... the only things that aren't named after the Bonne Machines are his iPods, Klaymoor and Bola (but they still follow the MML naming).

I once exaggerated this in a playthrough of ''{{Postal}} 2''. ''Every'' melee weapon received a name: Pratchett the scythe, Leonard the pitchfork, the Axtinguisher... There was even a suggestion to name the machete I threw away before the first day ended.

Also, I have only used one name tag in ''Team Fortress 2'': a Your Eternal Reward knife, named "Kicking ass and taking names" on a friend's suggestion after I did exactly that with it.

My Pathfinder Society character, a fighter/rogue, has a longsword named Alice and a warhammer named Bob.

My favourite knife (I have a few of them in real life) is called Siegfried. The kicker? My 9-year-old sister named it that. Why? Because it sounds cool!

For me? A Glock 17 named Steve and a Saiga (like Vera) named Fred.

I've named my old Yamaha PSR-240 keyboard "The Smoker." The plastic is yellowing, it could die any day, and it sounds terrible without some form of external voice box (a MIDI something; usually my laptop and Ableton Live although I'm not averse to sound modules). The only reason I keep it around is because it looks kinda cool when I take it on stage.

This Troper named her braces Seme and Uke (because one was on the top and one on the bottom). Now that they've been removed, she has two faithful, invisible, and annoying retainers called Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

This Troper likes to name her gadgets and devices in Japanese derivatives of their brand names, just for fun. Her Sony cellphone is "Soniko", her iPod Shuffle is "Shuufu". Her siblings have the same habit; her brother naming his KAIKAI MP3 player "Kaikai", her sister naming her iPod Touch "Touchi", and her Motorola cellphone "Motoko". Their shared devices and consoles follow the brand-naming, though not the "Japanisation", as their PSP Slim is called "Mr. Slim", and their Nintendo Wii is "Wiivern".

This troper's laptop is named Sasha, her cellphone is GLaDOS, and her iPod is Marvin.

My family runs through ThemeNaming schemes for our computers. I'm going through names from the LordOfTheRings world starting with 'G'; the laptop this edit was made from is called Galadriel.

I have a scorpion pendant (like a paperweight with a scorpion in it) that I call Ty. There's a reason for this. The largest storm on record is called Super Typhoon Ty. A typhoon is another name for a hurricane. And the song Rock You like a Hurricane is by a band called.... the Scorpions.

@/{{Revelo}}: Played this trope straight with my 98 Ford Mondeo which I dubbed Vera. Has served the family well despite the odd breakdown and continues to run well. my sister calls her car Chester. I named my trenchcoat Phill as well and my Nerf Gun is known as Bob.

This troper affectionately calls her guitar "Charlotte", and her flute " Elissabeth."

This troper will soon be acquiring a 1960's Harmony Archtop acoustic guitar, found in a local guitar shop with tons of scratches, a cracked f-hole, and damaged tuning machines. It has fantastic tone. The second it leaves the shop it will be re-named Firewood.
