Also, she started writing an original story about a lizard at eleven, but it's much better than the fanfics, and can be salvaged with some tender loving care and research about Egypt.

The earlier years of this troper's imagination. If I had known about fanfiction back then and had put everything I came up with into words, I would've instantly been labeled a MarySue. But then again, I was only around 8 when I first got into gaming, so... yeah, definitely some OldShame there. Nowadays I know that sometimes it's best if what happens in my head stays there.

This troper's ''{{Naruto}}'' fanfiction. I didn't even watch Naruto or anything, I just wrote fanfiction. (Ok, I read some of the manga from time to time.) I wrote my first fanfiction when I was 13. It's completely unoriginal PanderingToTheBase for [=NaruSaku=] shippers, almost no characters act in-character at all, the plot is basically non-existent, and I can barely read it anymore without getting sick. Unfortunately, since it's such a ship-supporting fic, people will still dig it up from time to time and tell me how good it is. And it's gotten far more views than most of my original fiction, which is at least slightly less bad.

This troper is lucky, so her amount of reviews increases with the quality. Her fist works, from when she was 11-13, are all Mary Sue fics, and she can't delete them since the Israeli fanfiction site is actually a forum. Every drawing she did over a year ago is also this.

This troper's entry into the (now deleted) Hype Backlash Troper Tales page. Since the page itself was deleted due to numerous whiner entries, and this troper's own entry was deleted just before the proposal to cut the page, he felt like he was part of the problem, which he's ashamed of.

This Troper of course runs his own Super Smash Bros Fanfic, but also worked on another SSB Fanfiction that he'd much rather forget about and that is only ever referenced by him AS the OldShame. Since it's on Geocities, it should be purged within the year, and this troper is not doing a damn thing to save it. He also had an original webcomic series that he is currently reworking into short stories.

though this troper would like to believe he did okay with his first four stories, looking back, they seem to be poorly handled. One is a toy story and azumanga daioh crossover which had an intresting premise but could go nowhere and is now on the verge of being dead. I wrote two hetalia things which were mediocre. One other long one has been going for awhile and had some bad early chapters that make me cringe when I see how much funnier the following chapters get. And being a sorta new author , It probably won't be the first old shame.

This troper once wrote a LegendOfZelda fan fic when he was 14 or 15 titled Sehnsucht, which was filled to the brim with ungodly amounts of {{Wangst}} and most of the main characters DrivenToSuicide, or close to it. Link went from a heroic warrior to a whining, self-pitying loser, and the plot was essentially a HurtComfortFic between him and Zelda. The only thing I can say in my defense was that this was the first piece of creative writing I had done outside of school, and that, from reading other fan fics, I honestly thought the angst-laden stories were what people wanted to read. Some time ago I actually posted my story on the Godawful Fanfiction forums and utterly ripped it to shreds. I deleted it off fanfiction.net, but I'm sure there are still copies of it floating around the internet somewhere. I once did a Google search for it and came across a review of it on LiveJournal, where the reviewer gave it 4/10, which I thought was entirely too generous. Old Shame indeed.

My OldShame LegendOfZelda fanfic involved Zant stalking and masturbating to a 12 year-old Midna. I almost can't bring myself to type this, I'm so ashamed.

This troper whilst 15 wrote a Tenchi Muyo fic called "Sing For Me My Friend" that was utter tripe after chapter one. It involved summoning Ryoko and Vegeta of DragonBallZ to the real world and it was a self-insert. This fic was deleted but it did have one fan. Although reasonably popular in comparison, Utena Forever is likewise Old Shame.

This troper started his writing with screenplays after downloading the program [=CeltX=]. The first ones? Not so great. Eventually they got better, but early works showed clear cut cases of DidNotDoTheResearch, had totally two dimensional characters, had partially plagerized dialogue and very unoriginal concepts. The worst part was I put my REAL NAME next to them, and Google. Never. Forgets.

About a year ago, this troper started a new Fanfiction.net account in an attempt to hide her previous one, which she'd started at the age of eleven. I really, sincerely hope that no one ever, ever, ever digs up my old account. To this day, I really don't know what ever possessed me to do a ''DannyPhantom'' / ''Jimmy Neutron'' / ''SpongebobSquarepants'' / ''TheFairlyOddparents'' / ''TeenTitans'' crossover. (To be fair, I'm now 15 and write ''CodeLyoko'' fanfiction. I may be adding on to this article in a few years.)

This troper (who is not going to link to her contributor page for obvious reasons) has what could loosely be described as ''{{Neopets}}'' fanfiction (I never did figure out if it was properly fanfic or not, since it was set in that universe but the characters were mine) from when she was ''nine'', on the same approximate quality level as that produced by most preteens, i.e. So Bad It's Horrible. The stuff when she wrote when she was eleven was... still not ''good'' exactly, partly because of the tin ear she had for dialogue at the time (and needlessly convoluted plots, and a MarySue for a hero...), but at least semi-readable. However, she would greatly enjoy burning everything she wrote before the age of fourteen.

This troper's fanfiction, prior to the age of 13, is ALL old shame fic. The one portraying 12-year-old Draco and Hermione as tragic Romeo and Juliet style lovers, the one in which the main character is a badass MarySue spy opposite an {{Expy}} of Artemis Fowl... all the terribly thought out, horrifically depressing (and similarly poorly dialogued) InvaderZim Dib's-POV tween angst...

This troper never wrote fanfiction. Instead, he wrote [=MSTings=]. Using DBZ characters for some reason he can't recall anymore. His old writing style is so lousy he can't even look at it anymore.

This troper (who is brave enough to reveal her username), desperately wants to bash her head against her desk for the things she came up with when starting out as an anime fan. It really didn't help her first fandom was Beyblade. Luckily, most of the offending stories are deleted from Fanfiction.Net (the one that isn't is there to serve the purpose of reminding her to always strive for improvement), and so only the images on her deviantART account (which does not use the same username) are a hint to the shame. Despite giving up on Beyblade years ago, she's still trying to rework the [=OCs=] she created in those days to make them less MarySue.

This Troper would really like to forget his early Series/DoctorWho fan fiction simply because he introduced as a companion an AuthorAvatar who was part robot and could essentially do ''anything''. And then there was his attempt at a novel that not only included this character but was simply an attmempt to combine his then favourite companion (not saying who) with his favourite Doctor (the 7th) and inserted between the Crusades and the Space Museum. This novel was never finished.

Popular crap or a case of being far and away your own worst critic? That is not a rare thing.

I have created literally upwards of 100 original characters and stories since I was 4 (currently 15). The first of these was a superhero dragon (later dragon''fly'', because now that ArtEvolution has set in he doesn't look a damn thing like a dragon) named Max, who was renowned as a hero by his planet, along with his friends Lizzie, George, and Ralph (for those wondering, yes, it was originally a {{Rampage}} fanfic, but the only real similarities were the characters' names and species). Now, the OldShame isn't from the stories themselves; the really old ones (which were made up on the spot, as dictated to my Mom) are hilarious insights into a hyperactive toddler's mind, and the newer ones from about age 10 (when I revisited the character) are pretty well-written with decent illustrations, though they're nothing special. No, the thing that shames me is that even though the narrator constantly sung the praises of the great hero Max, he had ''absolutely no heroic or respectable traits about him at all''. He never thought before he acted, was a scrawny little wimp, never asked for help or really even told anyone where he was going, and whenever the villains attacked him, conveniently forgot that he could fly, blow fire, and see in the dark. And in every single story, without fail, Max would get incapacitated and Lizzie, George, or Ralph would have to rescue him. To this day, I still wonder what 4-year-old me saw in the guy. Luckily, I've caught on to my own joke, and Max is now an obnoxious blowhard that Lizzie is constantly head-aching over.

Among other things, those were the years when she: was so out of it that she ''didn't realize she was cheating on a test'' (the teacher passed tests back but she was too busy formulating bad ArtemisFowl fanfiction when he informed the class that some people still needed to finish and so proceeded to loudly discuss answers with the girl sitting next to her); was a total StalkerWithACrush, complete with elaborate and impractical "plans", on this guy that wasn't very nice and quite obviously didn't give a shit; and made up a personal narrative essay in which a guy gets shot by an arrow to the eye and ''spurts blood in my face'', because she figured nothing from her actual life was worth writing about. As penance, the next time she's assigned a personal narrative, she plans to write about writing that one.

This troper would absolutely love to forget the majority of her childhood, so I can erase my memories of being a deluded, misogynistic, presumptuous, arrogant, fucked-up thieving whining little brat. And I'd love to get rid of most of my high school years (before last year) too.

Urrrrrrg, a few years ago when this one was 13-14, she refused to pluck her eyebrows, have her hair cut or wear nice clothes. Now looking back on her old passport photo she swears that she looked like this poor lass (except I was actually pretty underneath). I got better (see picture on contributor page). I feel so bad about the whole experience that I just want to go back in time and slap the past-me and tell her to lose some weight and wear clothes other than men's T-shirts and unflattering trousers.

I also dabbled in fanfic but I didn't write any of it down. I was heavily into the Teen Titans cartoon, and I started making up a story in my head before I went to bed. It's been a while but 'll try to relay the story: It was about this extremely human looking alien who was banished from his planet and crashed landed in... whatever city the Teen Titans live in, roughly ten years before they formed. He somehow managed to stay hidden until years later when the Teen Titans were in their 20s. They had broken up for a while (don't ask me why) but had decided to reform. There was this new threat in the form of this guy who made huge robots and was going to level the city for whatever reason. He was also calling out this alien guy so he decided to make himself known by completely one-upping the Teen Titans and destroying the massive robot with psychic powers AND super-strength. The [=TTs=] of course want to know WTF but he snubs them majorly. The same guy ends up crashing into the Titan's Tower after being attacked by little blood-sucking robots. The [=TTs=] look after him for a while until he snubs them again by escaping and going after the robot guy, which he beats down single handedly, oh and the TTs helped, a little. The [=TTs=] ask him to join the team of course, and Raven doesn't trust him. And there was some shit to do with Terra, Slade and a war on his home planet. It was basically full of ripoffs (from Halo, Far Cry, Mewtwo etc), violence, sex, cliches and of course, a Marty Stu. I look back at it fondly sometimes, I was trying hard to create the character's personality and backstory but I'm glad that I didn't write it down.

The first attempt at romance fic. That is all. Years later, am now on ''third'' FFN account, trying to start anew.

Same here. Though, I was sane enough to not post it. After a bit more practice and a beta I've posted two fics (and only two), both are femslash BuffyTheVampireSlayer romance fics (one's [=Buffy/Faith=] and one is [=Buffy/Willow=]. Neither are explicit (though the second one is rated M because it gets a bit more graphic), and both are a mix of angst and romance (both involve trauma to the other character and Buffy consoling them, but they are quite different). Plus, the second one has a little funny moment.

This troper recently turned up the draft of a novel she'd been writing at the age of fifteen, and was actually cheered by the fact that she's gotten ''so much'' better since then -- of course, it helps that she's one of exactly two people in the entire world who ever got to see it.

My first major internet-related work was a sprite comic for a Mario forum that he now visits infrequently (''The Great Tales'') ... and, to tell the truth, it's better off forgotten. The grammar was fine, the backgrounds (except one that was donated and a cheap edit of Starbeans Coffee from '' Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga '') were fine, the sprites were fine, but holy heck, the script and "plot". It basically involved Dark Matter blobs (taking the body shape and opposite alignment of the main characters - they were solid black with red, white, or blue eyes, depending on their alignment) wandering around doing nothing in particular, while the villains acted harmless, the neutrals showed up like twice, and the heroes were all idiots. And ''everyone'' had at least one line stolen from anything I admired at the time. Even ''if'' you were into the plot, the impenetrable word balloon order made it impossible to understand what was going on. Did I mention that, near the end, everyone was transported to the world of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 for the Game Gear for the sole purpose of showing off that I had found tilesets of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 for the Game Gear? And that it used other peoples' characters ''without their permission to do so''? I'd delete it from my hard drive, if I wasn't so nostalgic. Scratch that, the abomination has been gone for years now.

After discovering the horrors of ''{{Sonichu}}'', I've noticed many uncanny connections between the two. They are/were both terrible webcomics that stole dialogue from everything ever created, stole ''characters'' from many other sources, had plots that made no sense at all, and were messy as all heck. The worst part of this? I had an overly large and bloated ego back then and would blow up if any negative criticism came my way (which it did, but not ''nearly'' as soon as it should have). Think about it. ''I almost became a younger version of Christian Weston Chandler''. That right there is a ''monilith'' well of HighOctaneNightmareFuel.

The first time This Troper ever heard of Sonichu, it immediately reminded him of a hybrid Bulbasaur/Pikachu he had called...Pikasaur. Yeah, that's one for the fires...

It's not a fanfic, but this troper finds his SonicTheHedgehog OriginalCharacter to be his OldShame, for the simple reason that he used the character's name as his own online name.

This troper draws comics for her college newspaper. After two semesters of making a conventional comedic comic strip, she decided to try something different and began a rather serious, dramatic serial comic about ''talking stray cats''. It only lasted four weeks before this troper realized that it was an absurd idea that wouldn't find an audience at a university. To this troper's horror, two weeks after replacing it with a more traditional college strip, another comic artist started a parody of her strip, claiming to be finishing the story (The main character ended up dying violently from tapeworms). It was actually more hilarious than mortifying however.

Many years ago, this troper wrote a story about a bullied girl who befriends a new student. Said student swoops in to solve all her problems, is extremely pale-skinned, and often mysteriously disappears. When this troper was 11 years old, she thought her story was good. Now she shudders at the mere thought of it with its uber-MarySue (red-haired, abused by her sister with no one noticing, meek unless it would be "cool" for her to have a sudden fit of rage...), gaping {{Plot Hole}}s, and the ''painfully'' obvious Reveal about the new student. She deleted all files of that story from her computer while averting her eyes from the screen so as to not accidentally read any of it.

This Troper keeps all his sketchbooks from his first year of high school due to a somewhat recent "ritual" that whenever he buys a new one, he goes through his old ones to see the change in his style, the ones before the first year were not so lucky; likewise for some of his writings, he's actually glad he had to change computers a year ago.

This troper has a box -- the kind that hold reams of copier paper -- literally filled with notebooks of self-insert wish-fulfillment Mary-Sue fanfiction from when she was in middle school, sitting menacingly in her closet in her parents' house. She swears that one day she will either burn it or slip it all quietly into the recycling when her parents aren't likely to see it... although she does wish she could still crank out that much creative stuff that often.

On a similar note, I'd completely swear off ever being in the GoldenSun fandom at ''all'' (having committed offenses related to shipping, {{Flame War}}s, and being a StopHavingFunGuy) if it wasn't where I met most, if not all, of my online friends...

While this troper has no examples of his own to share, his sister has a few stories she'd rather not have brought up (specifically humor stories (where she now writes drama) about shows she doesn't watch anymore) This troper's attempt to complement one of her old stories (as he likes humor and still watches said shows) was met with pleads to stop reading them.

Tropers/{{Yoshmaster}} (Revealing name, not the fanfic name anyhow) wrote a few different fan fictions - all somewhat ashamed of. Now, he probably will take them off, but now has an embarrassingly funny spelling error noticed by the reader, "I'm giving you testes (As opposed to tests)

This Troper (like I would reveal my name) once wrote an {{Angel}}/IronMan FanFic. Where Lorne and Tony sing karaoke and get drunk. Needless to say, this has been purged from... everywhere.

This troper's old shame comes from both fanfiction and original fiction. The original fiction consisted of a self-insert Mary Sue character who always saved the world from everything and lived in a pseudo-utopian childlike city. The fanfiction did not have Self Inserts, but did have a Mary Sue. The damage inflicted by the Mary Sue was minimal (she had a romance with an exceedingly minor character seen probably twice in the series). The damage inflicted by the horrific improbable shipping and the badly written battle scenes (it was a Digimon fic)? Extreme, especially considering the fic was finished in one year with 45 chapters. After 300 reviews (and this troper is still getting emails asking for copies of the fic mercifully taken down from fanfiction,net) it was euthanized.

As an attempt to redeem herself, this troper now is the author of one of the stupidest, lamest characters in the {{Anti-Cliche and Mary-Sue Elimination Society}} (it's probably easy to guess whom "this troper" is now) but still hasn't gotten better; the character while probably not a Sue is standing on a very shaky barrier into becoming one, and even in the Society there's Old Shame (this troper's entrance fic into the Society was deleted)...

This troper was forced(yes, FORCED) to write a book for an annual "write and illustrate your own book contest". Basically, we were given a title and they made us write it. Despite inexplicably getting at least an honorable mention(I believe that's because the entries that din't win were fanfiction), the whole thing is a TERRIBLE story. hideous "illustrations'', unintentional racism, TotallyRadical dialogue, and just a cancerous heap of mediocrity. Next time I go to the library, I'm gonna get that book and personally burn it.

Here we go tropers, it's time for Tropers/AvnasIshtaroth's Old Shame (haven't got a user page yet, but I'm working on it). I have had: ONE bad sprite comic, one outrageously abominable Fire Emblem fanfic complete with Gary Sues, messing with the canon timeline, etc etc. It also blatantly ripped off a little-known book series, the Symphony of Ages, in terms of characterisation. I kept it up on FF.Net because I like the way I wrote it in terms of description, and some of the characterisation was good. SOME. I was so ashamed of it I added an explanatory foreword explaining why I hate it so much. I hate the explanatory foreword, it makes me come across as pretentious.

This troper started writing her first fics, multi-chapter DannyPhantom fics, when she was 13, and wrote almost nothing but that for one and a half years. This troper took all that fanfic, cluttered with horrible spelling, cliché plots, and Mary Sues, offline; and the only remains of it are a well deserved sporking on an LJ sue watch community. She actually thought for a while that the biggest problem was her spelling. Yeah, this troper is glad she learned how to write.

This Troper pretty much wiped out all aspects of her main stories from when she was thirteen and before that. There was also a somewhat-recent incident involving a Relationship Sue and a character I found attractive at the time... nevermind that said canon character should have NO ONE paired with them under any circumstances. Cue shuddering...

This one fanfic author Tropers/AcrossTheStars knows of inverts this trope in the most spectacular fashion possible. The author? Thanfiction. The fanfic? Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness.

A somewhat aversion, my first novel I wrote is actually pretty good, everyone likes the idea and the story is relatively sound. The grammar and paragraphing needs work (a LOT of work) but if I would just rewrite, I'd be fine... Except the story needs a LOT of proofreading. Whole chapters need to be rewritten. I look at my spelling and cringe, quite frankly, and would rather it just burnt somewhere quietly...

All right, this troper (Tropers/{{Kayube}}) has wanted to add this to the list for a while, and here it is: His middle-school attempts at TenchiMuyo fanfiction are practically a living list of what not to do with a fan fiction. Inspired somewhat by an earlier dream, it involved the self-insert version of this troper performing a FixFic on the ending of Tenchi in Tokyo ripped straight from ReBoot (specifically, the episode that came on {{Toonami}} right before the Tenchi episode that inspired the idea), becoming ruler of all Nintendo games, and traipsing about with the Tenchi cast through random video game worlds, while Sakuya became Sailor Jurai and fought evil alongside Tenchi. And just to top it off, this troper actually went to a fan fiction review site demanding they do a review of this stuff! It was fun to write while it lasted, and it lasted remarkably long, but... wow, it was bad. (Though this troper has been tempted to revisit the basic idea and do it properly this time...)

About twelve years ago, having recently gotten the internet, This Troper fell in love with TenchiMuyo. Despite only having seen the first movie, and despite the fact that the sum of his knowledge about the series consisted of what he had read online, he dared to write a fanfic about it...and poetry. Oh, the poetry. These days, This Troper thinks there ought to be a law preventing anyone under the age of sixteen from writing fanfic, and anyone under the age of thirty from writing poetry.

This troper cringes when she even ''thinks'' about some of the crap she produced, and stupid fanbabble she said, in the early years of her geekdom.

For This troper, it's his first forum roleplay experiences based on Xmen. Oh god, the Marty Stus, ooooh god. If anyone from Academy X reads this, on behalf of he who once played Daniel Karnios, Gabriel Karnios, or any related character: I'm seriously sorry you had to endure me. There's also the yiff I've written, but let's not get into that.

Most of the things on this troper's YouTube account is OldShame, but people still like it, so she'd feel bad removing it. Some of it has been blocked for copyrighted content, though. One day she logged on to find that a record company claimed the song on one of such videos (heck, they can ''keep it''), and at first she was thrilled to think someone would be blocking her video. Then they told her she could keep it up.

This troper forces himself to post his writing online daily just to make sure he keeps up with it. He already hates his writing, and just knows that if he ever gets anything published then that site is going to become a massive pile of OldShame. At least he can use the excuse that the site's for both first drafts and getting the crap out so he can someday get better.

This troper feels OldShame whenever she remembers her freshman year in highschool (two years ago). She was lazy, didn't turn work in, said stupid and embarassing things, and was a total dork. These days she is a lot better and has learned how to not act weirdly. An ImportantHaircut was also involved.

She was ''that'' embarrassed for their lack of quality, bad plots, OOC, offensive clichés, etc. She's also glad her old Literature teacher never laughed at her face for the horrendous {{Mary Sue}}s she used to write in highschool and showed her once. Anything this troper wrote while in the Naruto fandom; much of her older FMA fanfiction; an original fantasy story she once wrote. Actually, the plot and character ideas weren't bad, but the actual characters were so boring and the writing so bad she's just abandoned every single mention ever of it. Unfortunately, her best friend and sister liked it and still occasionally bug her to finish it. Also, any pixel dolling she did before she learned to use at least three shades whilst shading. -shudder- Messy lines...

This troper started off writing truly awful {{Anvilicious}} MartyStu fanfiction (hence my backlash against {{Anvilicious}}ness more recently) to the point he completely reformatted his Fanfiction.net profile with a new username. I now write comedy/satire, and personal satisfaction along with positive reviews rose as well. In addition, I, like many, started off contributing horribly generic boxes with roofs to the {{Spore}}pedia, but I didn't feel like taking them off as it demonstrates my CharacterDevelopment into making more creative works. Yes, there's an achievement for getting 50 of them on the server regardless of quality, but, er, that has nothing to do with anything!

Also, this troper has come here to repent for his participation in TakeThat potholes, and he suspects he's not the only one.

Like many others, I am deeply ashamed of the horrendous, angsty Pokémon fic I once wrote to Fanfiction.Net. (Un)original story and characters, most of them Mary Sues, but the main character was a particularly bad offender. I wrote tons of it too, and drew equally horrendous illustrations to go with the chapters. I realized how much it sucked while I was in the middle of writing it after a while, just stopped, and never logged in with that account again. I feel kind of bad for the one guy who apparently liked the thing.

This troper wrote mass amounts of fanfiction (something like 560,000 words) that qualified quite nicely for FanficChopSuey. She can't bear to throw it out, and has in fact taken out some of the best ideas to try for a very private rewrite; but the original is truly gag-worthy. To give you some idea: She ran her old character through a popular mary-sue test for kicks. The scoring chart listed 50+ as "irredeemable"; her final score was 252.

This troper has an ancient computer in her room. It has the uncompleted final chapter of ''Kingdom Hearts'' when she first found it. It will never be allowed off the computer, because of the Mary Sue she made based off herself. Plus, it was kinda stupid...

the Pirate}} This troper had brainstormed, outlined, and written a few chapters about a fanfiction "epic" that, thinking back on it, was strikingly (and horrifically) similar to Sailor Moon: American Kitsune, minus the racism and homophobia. It involved every character he thought was cool at the time getting their powers siphoned into a God Mode Stu/Author Self Insertion by the enemies of said characters and said Stu running around his favorite shows of the time doing god knows how many stupid things. This troper is very, very sorry.

This troper is grateful to be old enough that her epic Duran Duran self-insert fic was written at a time when the Internet was inaccessible to your average tween and it never went further than her mom's typewriter.

When this troper (unlinked for general embarrassment) was eleven years old, she wrote Pokemon fanfics (and still does). One of her early stories was about a rather odd schoolyard Pokemon battle in which a twelve-year-old boy is using his Charizard and Salamence against another 12-year-old who owns ''two'' Master Balls. Inside those Master Balls? The Legendary gods of space and time, Palkia and Dialga. The Palkia and Dialga then proceed to zap the boy into another dimension where he wakes up as a Pokemon. Risen (his alias) recognizes a guy who passed by them as the boy he fought in that battle - the only problem? He looked older. Fifteen years older. The Chikorita then argues that his name was not Neos but that his name was, in fact, Saturn. Risen didn't enjoy the fact that he was also in the rather villainous group of loonies called Team Galactic, who were planning to ''summon Dialga and Palkia to blow up the universe''. Never got past chapter two (she kept it around, just for kicks).

Also, I had an inversion about a year later when my writing career took leaps and bounds: While most people are ashamed of their SelfInsert characters, she created one in the first story she cares to remember and has used it in ''almost every story since''.

Oh man, Shaya. My old OC when I was about 13... She had waist-length blue hair, and had a DRAGON. She was also the angsty, beautiful daughter of an equally angsty, beautiful elf. I thought she was AWESOME. Ugh.

Almost everything on this troper's old DeviantArt, as well as her old LiveJournal (which is now all gone -- thank God), her old Youtube, and basically everything she did before her fifteenth birthday with the exception of a fic where she had some of her original characters re-imagine ''HighSchoolMusical'' that had some pretty funny parts. This troper's first attempt at writing a novel, featuring a rock band who do such rebellious things as smoking and dying their hair black. Nobody ever does anything rock-bandy, playing music or leaving the house for example, because this troper DidNotDoTheResearch and had no intention of doing it. A {{Megaman X}} fanfic where X and Zero were completely overshadowed by a stupidly-named MartyStu "created to be the ultimate warrior" with an obscene amount of abilities, with the later addition of some stupidly-named friends of him that at least had merely above-average power. Fortunately, I quit after only a few chapters and never released my self-created horror on the rest of the internet.

My first attempt at my OC, Devon, was weak. His original name was Devlin, he was thin as crap and was some sort of EvilTwin to me. He's gotten better as time went by after two reboots in his origins. Also, if anyone wants, I can remake some of their OldShame fanfics on my DeviantArt account.

This troper was extremely immature on the internet when he was about 15 or 16 years old. One time, he joined a Yu-Gi-Oh! forum and became a ditzy spammer. Now he hangs his head in shame and tries to be TheAtoner towards the community, even though he lost interest in Yu-Gi-Oh! He also once had a BiologicalMashup fursona and he's currently trying to make his old friends forget about it.

This troper didn't start off writing fics, but [=RPing=] on the WoW forums, which was the same, in ways. One and a half years ago, he enjoyed putting pieces of his one character's background into the various RPs without explaining what they were in the background description. He then decided to write a story on the site about the life of the character, explaining some of these unknown ventures. It involved the main character being an orphan, being (decently) fluent in a language not normally studied by his race at age 17, trying to take on a mysterious, rebellious, black-raincoat-wearing organization, having his arm radically transformed into a demon's, was able to become good friends with his demons without the reprisal of Fel Magic, and obtained the spellbook of a previously-killed Big Bad, and was able to use it successfully. Oh, and did I mention that he was half-human? Luckily, his computer with the story files was destroyed by a virus, and mass-forum cleaning erased the story.

This troper's had a rather... sordid past in this sense. First, there was a horribly-written SonicTheHedgehog SpriteComic. It didn't last more than a dozen strips, but it was horrible nonetheless. His friend keeps these around just for the sake of embarrassing me with them. Then there was the Sonic ''fanfiction''. Better written, admittedly, and some parts I'll still admit were a great idea, but still something I'm grateful has been lost to the depths of Fanfiction.net. About a year after came the roleplaying. {{Mario}} roleplaying this time, though. The characters used there (two slighly insane, and quite sociopathic, Magikoopas) were actually a lot of fun, and still survive in writing to this day. To a lesser extent, the early days of his CityOfHeroes roleplaying is best left forgotten, but the main character has been salvaged from a serial-killer EvilGenius {{Cloudcuckoolander}} to a slightly odd inventor teetering deliberately on the line between WrenchWench and GadgeteerGenius.

This Troper once had a series of ''CodeLyoko'' fanfic wherein the self-inserts of himself and one of the twelve other people in school who liked the show relentlessly lampshaded their Sueness, exposed the regular cast to our world's Fanfiction.net, and planned to eventually press Franz Hopper for a decade of back alimony. The project was eventually dropped due to its overuse of secondhand ''AquaTeenHungerForce'' gags and the fact that every time I finished a new revision of a chapter, new episodes would pop up and force {{RetCon}}s (as a frame of reference, I started at the end of Season 2, put out three and a half chapters of the Mark I just before Season 3 started, aborted the Mark II three pages in when Season 3 ended, and junked the expository bits of the Mark III from my [=deviantART=] a fourth of the way into Season 4). Currently in DevelopmentHell is its replacement, a crossover with ''DeathNote'' wherein "Swimigami" Light Yagami recruits our heroes to compete against other Cartoon Network alumni for credibility and/or godhood - with a fated showdown against the worst of the [adult swim] comedy bunch and their creators, of course.

This troper has about ''a hundred and seventy'' (yes, I actually counted) pieces worthy of the title OldShame. All from different fandoms (GundamSEED, SonicTheHedgehog, KingdomHearts, DynastyWarriors, FinalFantasyVII). Three-page (horribly drawn) comics to twenty-six-chaptered FanFic with corny dialogue and misused/misspelled words, with terrible fanart and two MarySue characters on the side (most of the 170 was terrible fanart, actually). All attempts (read: ALMOST EVERY FANFIC) to make a male character into a girl (so far) resulted in terribly OOC behavior (no one among them is an {{Uke}}, yet I had them blushing and all) and immediate pairing up with another guy, despite their canon selves. An example: Shinn/Athrun, both OOC, among others, and with Athrun wearing ''a ZAFT uniform identical to Lunamaria's''. Or try Cloud/Vincent, the latter also genderbent, yet unnaturally hyper (read: Yuffie-level hyper). , and yes. It hurts so much. Thank goodness I never put any of these... ''things'' on the Internet, instead stuffing it all into a box below my desk (complete with content warning). Only my cousin knows about it, and she looks like she'll take the same route... (sighs)

This troper always seems to smash her head against the nearest wall when she recalls her first ever fanfiction, which was in the {{Naruto}} fandom. Back when this troper was still in high school this troper wrote a story about dinosaurs as back then I was really into dinosaurs, it was however a blatent ripoff of Jurassic Park and Dino Crisis, it really didn't have so much a plot as an excuse to have dinosaurs mauling soldeirs, The characters have no development whatsoever with the exception of the main chracter who was a self insert, and not to mention I got many facts about the Dinosaurs wrong, now this troper wishes to go back in time and beat his past self up for writing this stupid shit, easily the WORST thing I have ever writen.

Tropers/{{Dinru}} is a little ashamed to be talking about this, but... a long time ago, she sat down in front of a composition notebook and she began to write. She wrote about a kitten, named... Dinru (which is where I get my pseudonym, since the name was awesome), who was owned by Princess Ruto. Somehow, over the course of the story, she became the fourth Golden Goddess of Hyrule and created the world of TalesOfSymphonia with them. For some reason. Also, since I had no clue TalesOfPhantasia existed, I decided the joint Tethe'alla and Sylvarant ''and'' the second World Tree were called Symphonia. Because titles are ''always'' relative to the video games they name, or so I thought at the time. I will not reveal my age at the time, because it was ashamedly old to not be GenreSavvy enough to realize just how messed up that was. Luckily, not long after was when I discovered the wonders of the Internet...

This troper is going to get it out of the way ''right now''. Everything he's worked on up to the January of 2008 is utter crap and the only reason he keeps it up on fanfiction.net is to remind him of how far he's come.

Ye Gods... This troper has always been fairly technically proficient at writing (grammar and spelling were usually fine, even when she was very young), but the stuff she wrote... The first thing she remembers writing was an abysmal ''Pokemon'' fanfic with a blatant MarySue named Tahiri who somehow had a Mew and a magical bracelet that allowed her to transform into any pokemon she wanted... yeah. Luckily this never made it onto the internet, but the others weren't so lucky. There were masses of ''Yu-Gi-Oh'' one-shots starring Kagami, a white-haired pretty girl who was slightly less of a Sue than Tahiri, but not by much. She was yet another holder of a mysterious "Eighth Millennium Item whooo" and did little more than suck up to Yami. Also during this time she wrote an "original story" that was pretty much a ripoff of ''Kingdom Hearts''. That became a DeadFic pretty fast. But most notable would have to be her long-dead ''HomestarRunner'' fanfic that was DarkerAndEdgier at it's ''worst''. It included such memorable scenes such as Strong Bad beating up Strong Sad with metal gloves, a sex scene that somehow managed to be IkeaErotica ''AND'' TastesLikeDiabetes, and a SongFic finale that involved attempted rape and Strong Sad killing everyone, then himself. In the universe of HOMESTAR EFFING RUNNER. I just hope Mike and Matt never read that one... And yes, the Strong Bad email about fanfiction makes this all the more hilarious.

This troper has one old shame. A not boko from when she was in a bad place in her head. Needless to say it was burned then thrown out. There are also some TheBigO fanfics floating around that aren't shameful in plot, but shameful from the poor writing.

This writer has some stories like that. While I'm trying to become a better writer, I look back and look at some of the stuff I did in the past and realize that it's a lot like the average fanfic. Granted, I have tried to improve them, especially my first, entitled ''Ash Ketchum: Superman'', since the early chapters are not that great, but the later chapters are much more improved. I am not ashamed of the story, I'm just amazed that things are different. In that story, you can tell when things are getting better when the chapters start getting longer. I am ashamed of a story I wrote called "Free Bird", which flat out sucked, and a lame attempt at Space Opera. The Space Opera one had Marty Stu Elves and Gundam knock-offs, while "Free Bird" was a shitty songfic. I don't even consider them worth going back and improving. I am also ashamed at some other stories that I wrote, even my most popular one on FF.net! Primarily because it's too rushed, the characters are unbelievable (in a bad way) and it's not even trying. I even had a baseball story, but I took that down, especially since no one even read it. Of course, I have improved, mostly thanks to Tolkein and Asimov. And Bruce Lee.

This troper had the usual bad fanfiction (mostly script fics featuring bad attempts at humour and a lack of understanding of how to effectively exaggerate a character, not to mention some pretty much stolen ideas), plus a really, really bad comic entitled "Engage Spork Engines" (can you tell I went through a "LOL CHEESE RANDOM!!!1" phase?) that thankfully never saw the light of day and has since been destroyed. I don't even remember it that well, apart from the fact that it was extremely incoherent, really badly drawn (for some reason I tried to draw it as if it was a sprite comic, making the characters look like crappy little sprite things with circles for arms and legs, except when I would suddenly, pointlessly change art style for maybe three strips or so, then change back). Honestly, I sort of wish I didn't tear up all the pages, just so I could see how bad it was...

... May I? Ugh! This Troper has SO MUCH! How do I begin? When I was around 9 or ten, I made Pokemon Mary Sues, oh so many of them! I made comics. While it is entertaining to make fun of younger me, I was terrible. Around 11 or 12, I began with fanfiction. I had pretty good grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, but I was terrible at storytelling, had terrible crossover plots, terrible Mary Sues and Marty Stues, and erratic oneshots "for the lulz". I have since created another account which has some things I dislike, but at an acceptable level. I tried to write novels. One was a blatant werewolf rippoff of one book I'd read, one was a Wangst filled book of gay teenage love, the other was a somewhat okay book of lesbian teenage love, and ye gods did I love the Wangst! With both the fanfiction and novels, I attempted (and failed at) rewrites. I have kept all my sketchbooks and have attempted to redraw all my favorite pictures to show my growth... IGotBetter... Anyways, I have a good DA page, adn a bad one. I am now 16 and full of regret.

Oh lord, where to being. There's a reason I don't write fanfiction anymore. When I was younger, about 13-14ish, I used to write fanfiction about any anime series I happened to be obsessed with at the time. The problem? Up until that point, I'd never really done any creative writing outside of school work, and for some reason, I had a fixation on writing in a script format. I abused it all, I did AuthorAvatar, MarySue / MartyStu, ugh... I don't even wish to remember. To top that off, when cleaning the pit of doom that is my closet a while back, I found a hellish remnant of a fic I had tried to write. It was a ''Trigun'' / ''DetectiveConan'' / ''InuYasha'' crossover fic, and, to top that hell off, I inserted myself ''as myself'' as the focal love interest, and as a MarySue. Head, meet desk. Time passes, and since ff.net has a policy against script fics, they've all gone the way of the dodo, except one, which wasn't that bad. I tried doing a WWE fic a few years back, but lost all interest when the tag team it focused on split. IGotBetter thought, when I found out I was better suited to doing original literature, and actively join in original character Roleplays, both online and offline. Especially since most of it was done in MS Paint/Paint.NET. She also holds some stories that are really badly written. Thankfully, both skills have improved massively.

This troper used to play with a friend like we were battling on the ruins of a city, I was bad and always wore a red cape. We both shouted and yelled our battle cries, making pedestrians stare like we were young psychopaths. We were the unfortunate outcome of watching Akira at 10. Nowadays, my girlfriend, who just happened to have been an avid watcher, loves reminding me of it. Embarrasses the hell out of me, especially when she asks if I could use psychic powers to throw the governor out and save her job. And she tops it off by giggling the whole way through. I still love that red blanket I used as the cape

Me and my friend did something similar. When we were about 11 or 12 we used to go to the park with toy lightsabers and play StarWars. I haven't seen that friend in 7 years, but he has always been more grown up than me so he'd probably kill me if I reminded him about that.

Christ, people, there's NOTHING wrong with kids playing games outside! Why the hell would anyone, ever, be ashamed of it, especially considering that many adults used to do it too, and might even find it cute/amusing? You sound like you need a better self-esteem, to be honest.

If anyone has ever read a KingdomHearts/Warriors crossover titled "Dive Into The Wild"...Yeah, that was mine, I apologize. The only reason I haven't taken it down is because my friend likes the references to our roleplay that only she would understand. I've also written a story centering on Axel and Reno swapping bodies that people seem to like despite its horrible writing...

When this troper was ten and waiting for the release of the fifth Harry Potter book, she made up not one, but ''two'' Mary Sues in her head to keep her entertained. One had this troper's name and looked like me; the one thing that prevented her from being a blatant self-insert was the fact that she was a hell of a lot spunkier than I ever was at that age. Also, she knew more advanced magic than the trio combined and set out to make them look like a bunch of brats to defend "poor Draco and Lucius", and when Draco dies for her at one point, she brings him back to life "with love". Think that's bad? It gets worse. My first Mary Sue did not end up with Draco, but my second Sue... dear lord, her name was ''Aphrodite Walker'', she had long hair with one side red and one side blonde, and was in Ravenclaw. ''That'' was the girl Draco fell in love with -- on first sight. Sue A fixed Draco up with Sue B even though Sue B was a half-blood (Lucius was okay with it because, in my immature brain that did not comprehend the symbolism, she at least had one parent who was a wizard). I am sincerely thankful to God I never actually ''wrote'' such a story and post it up on-line.

So I started out when I was 11 with a ReBoot fanfic... that was actually a continuation of someone else's. (With permission, at least, and the writer of the original seemed to enjoy it.) Shortly after that, two {{Creatures}} fics that somehow managed to have a Mary Sue in a series with ''only one canon character, who hadn't even been introduced yet''. I annoyed the hell out of the #reboot ops on IRC, ended up having to leave the forum I hung out on after pissing off a bunch of people with my inability to take constructive criticism, and a year later when I was making fun of ''myself'' on the marysues Livejournal community, one of said people came in to bitch at me. I've taken most of my old fic off fanfiction.net by now, and the internet is better off for it.

This guy, who wishes to be unnamed for obvious reasons, wrote a piece online. This piece was badly written, had horrid pacing and it was based around a really really big marty stu. Characters were called in and reinterpreted from their owners at a whim and mostly bastardized. Settings were illogical and so was the plot half the time. it was all based on an MMORPG that I won't name. In the end it got continued for a bout the worth of 40 or so full pages of material... with a sequel afterwards that had decent planning, more character development and a definitive plot direction. I have never written another mary sue character again, the first one I wrote knocked it all right out of me...

This troper is basically an OldShame treadmill. She thinks she's finally matured enough to avoid bad writing and shameless fanbratness, but before she came around to (near) sanity, she was responsible for:

In retrospect she can kind of see ''some'' evolution, and even the worst stuff was still in good English, but she's not going back anytime soon--quasi-OriginalFlavor {{Drabble}} is ''much'' more socially acceptable.

This Troper is known locally as being an excellent poet. However, a large portion of his material was written in his seventh grade english class, where he was required to make poems with very strict guidelines ("It has to be built around this phrase, it has to be exactly like this but with the blanks filled in, it has to be about your most embarrassing childhood memory, etc.), resulting in some poems that this troper absolutely hated, though it really didn't help that people apparently ''like'' some of those poems quite a bit. The worst one however was "The Surreal Sea," a poem this troper wrote because he was asked to write a "surreal" poem and couldn't come up with any ideas. It was a eight-line poem about two letters of the alphabet, one on a raft on a purple ocean, another floating on a cloud and looking down. Even this troper's ''mother'' agreed that it was total garbage... which was why this troper was ''mortified'' when his english teacher passed over quality work in order to send his ''worst poem'' to a local paper, where it was put on the back page.

This troper would apply it to all his fanfiction, ever. He also rigidly applies it to anything that he wrote more then a year ago and quite a few things he's writing now. Or the things that he is doing now, or any acts done in the recent past. I've (probably) pre-empted myself by noting that my currently NietzscheWannabe behaviour as a future Old Shame. Made worse by the fact that his fellow students refuse to allow him to forget it... although I'd probably remind myself fairly quickly.

I experience this in spades. While most of my work probably isn't horrible, I often get dissatisfied with it and have little confidence in it. A "humor" (I use the term loosely) Red Alert 2 fanfic I made when I was twelve? Backed out at the last minute, for which I'm forever thankful. My {{Anvilicious}} 1984 ripoff novella with anti-religious flavor comparable to George Carlin? Mercifully killed by the destruction of the message board I put it on. My SoylentGreen ripoff about the evils of gun control, drug illegalization, and anything that restricts use of a product? Buried and forgotten. My "dark, gritty" Pokemon fanfic that poorly explores what happens when the creatures fight humans using conventional weapons? Deleted. Jet Force Gemini parody with subpar jokes? Wiped the day it was posted. StarFox/Robotech crossover? Forgotten, then deleted. The GIJoe-esque first video game I released online? Obliterated from everywhere but my hard drive. My okay-ish zombie survival game with a bad case of XenSyndrome? I rarely mention it and never link people to it. This leaves the one and only work I was ever satisfied with: A ShootEmUp which, tragically, got stuck in DevelopmentHell and never saw the light of day.

This troper has some not so fond memories of her earliest work (which only got worse after discovering this site). The artwork was terrible, and the character backgrounds (especially for her OC) had a bad habit of falling under the more egregious CommonMarySueTraits. To the point where the largest gallery on my DA page is the "Total Crap". I've sworn that, once I have a larger body of recent work completed, I'm going to delete them for good.

This troper's old shame has extended to roleplaying. My first time roleplaying was on a now-defunct MUD where I pretended to be a set of HalfIdenticalTwins. No, I didn't play them. I actually pretended to be two people, a plucky girl and a sassy, snarky boy. Later, I progressed up a level... to Neopets boards. My first forum RPG was playing a terribly tragic, DracoInLeatherPants Pegasus; my next forum, a private academy for filthy rich teenagers who look like models. Unfortunately, even if the usernames have changed, the basic email address hasn't.

This feline at heart troper looked at all of her stories of a Darigan Eyrie Girl being paired up with a Jughead Expy, and was disgusted by them. She did notice that her character [=ToRi=] is based off of the darigan eyrie girl. Not that I mind, [=ToRi's=] better then what she's based off of. (Darn links. >.<;)

This Troper Once wrote an AvatarTheLastAirbender fic that was Pretty much a rip off of Thiswhen she was just started writing fanfiction.The difference? She didn't realize it was a parody back then,and so her version as totally serious. Her current Project might end up being this as she spent 4 years working on it before actually posting it in an attempt to avert this trope.

Ugh... there are few memories that I have that aren't paired with regret.

It pains this troper to say that he wrote well over a thousand pages worth of ''StarWars'' fan fiction back in high school. To give you an idea, there were three ''novels'' and maybe ten or twelve short stories that followed it. They centered around his Marty Sue of a main character: ''Beren Teleriand'', a Jedi Knight from Naboo who could summon an army of clones at will, outperform Luke Skywalker himself in debates on the weightier issues of the Force, was stronger than Yoda in Force potential, and found a way for any personal tragedy of his to be deeply felt by the main cast, who were basically a Greek chorus to Our Hero's innate awesomeness. Also, his LoveInterest was a blatant ripoff of Arwen from ''TheLordOfTheRings'' (who had the same name, it must be admitted), and storylines were more often than not cheap imitations of higher-quality scenes from movies and shows like ''TheLordOfTheRings'', ''{{Gladiator}}'', ''TheWestWing'', and ''{{Gettysburg}}''--only with ''Star Wars'' locales and technologies substituting the poorly disguised plots. It is a small modicum of comfort to this troper that he long ago deleted all those stories and finds his current original work to be a path to redemption.

This Troper's {{DeviantArt}} page, which she is still very much active on, was created six years ago. She ''really'' wishes she switched accounts a few years ago, as she cringes to remember it's the ''same'' account she once used to post self-insert Matrix Sues (with the original characters traced over on MSPaint. Seriously.), as well as whine on the forums about how some of the site's rules were not fair, the admins were "mean", and having subscription features is "greedy" of the site because everything should be free. To make matters worse, the screenname itself is the name of her oh-so-original ''{{Invader Zim}}'' fancharacter.

This Troper's mother always asks why she's never allowed to read her writing. The reason? ''Shame''. This Troper, in third grade, did two unforgivable things. First, she wrote a ''65-page'' fanfic that essentially canon-raped ''{{Redwall}}'', and second, she wrote a 13-page... ''thing'' that was a ''{{Pokemon}}''[=/=]''Yu-Gi-Oh'' crossover with a shapeshifting MarySue o'Doom. She turned both of these in. As for a more recent example, she wrote a Yu-Gi-Oh GX crackfic (on purpose) that ended up being mostly horrible with a few recognizable moments of brilliance. Thankfully, her recent writings are much better... with the lone exception of that one DeathNote fanfic that she hasn't deleted off her ff.net solely because she can't get up the guts to go anywhere near the thing. This troper has learned her lesson: she cannot write angstfic. It does not work.

This troper loves reading through her old fanfics, even if they are cringe-worthy at times. Here, I'll even be brave enough to link a post from a thread about old shame with a Pokemon fic I wrote.

This troper wrote a terrible, terrible SonicTheHedgehog fanfic at the age of... 11 or 12 or somewhere around that. How bad was it? Extremely bad. Thank goodness he never got around to releasing it online.

To sum it up, Sonic just kind of bought himself a huge mansion. Because... well, why not? Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Shadow and an awful fan character all moved in with him, for some reason. Said fan character was Shadow's (yes, really) long lost brother. He looked exactly the same, except (here's a shocker) he had gold stripes instead of red ones. A potential MarySue, though he got barely any screentime. So, basically, they have to go BeyondTheImpossible and defeat Eggman, who has teamed up with Ultimate, a really, really evil guy. Lots and lots of DeusExMachina ensues.

Another of my Sonic fan fic crimes was a self-insert story that could be summed up in six words: "Look at me. I am great."

And that's going without mentioning an equally awful fanfic where Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow tour the world. The lesser said about that one, the better.

This troper is quite ashamed, in hindsight, of a TinyToonAdventures ripoff of the StarTrekTNG pilot he once wrote, regardless of how many people told him how great it was at the time.

That actually sounds pretty amusing.

This troper would really like to erase everything about her life between the years 1999 and 2003 from her memory bank so she doesn't keep referring back to it. These years of my life were a fucking nightmare. Also, my early DBZ fanfictions. My first of such may not be all ''that'' bad, though. Basically, the Sailor Senshi and the Z Fighters teaming up... to kill Barney. I was 12.

Pretty much anything This Troper wrote prior to graduating from High School has been tracked down and systematically annihilated.

I am lucky, none of the 4 Fanfics I'm working on (I get writers block often and try to get a start on any good ideas I get before they fade away into my mind's trash bin) are horrible enough make me regret writing them (my worst would be a MetalGearSolid 3 fic that I ended up losing when I got a new computer, which was my first fic). I should note, however, that I'm kind of disappointed how my novel is turning out. It started off good, but, due to my attempts to avoid PurpleProse and running out of filler, ended up 20 (somewhat short) chapters long forcing me to practically improvise a 2nd part (I should be able to fix it though).

The worst thing I ever wrote? I didn't care a thing about characterization. I just gave generic lines to random characters who hadn't said anything in the chapter yet. The plot was horribly cobbled together. The crossover made no sense and just mashed random popular series together for no good reason (including making every reasonably athletic character -- and those who had never shown a sign of being athletic, but looked kind of manly, and that was good enough for me -- suddenly play soccer so they would all be at the same game, and making teenagers, adults and little kids the same age, also for this purpose). The fangirl Japanese was everywhere. I had no idea what to do with the plot and just asked my friends for suggestions as I went. The worst thing about it: you know when you get some random preteen fangirl review your story and she asks you to put her all-powerful MarySue in there? I actually obliged.

This troper is so dissatisfied with his writing that he frequently considers things he wrote mere days or weeks ago to be OldShame. Anything older than about a year should be put to the torch for the sake of everyone's sanity, and his dignity. Unfortunately, his daily writing blog goes back about three years, now... (Slight) hyperbole aside, pretty much anything from before college is just horrible, and there's an old Elfwood account out there that needs to be scrubbed clean.

This troper flatly refuses to acknowledge most of what she wrote before the age of about sixteen, since it's some of the most overblown purple prose she's ever run across combined with Mary Sues and Deus Ex Machinas. *shiver*

This Troper cringes at her old FanFiction for ''TheSecretOfNIMH''. Block writing, [=OOCness=] and pure stupidity abounds. and she's ashamed at how she butchered a perfectly good story plot with bad writing improbable characterization a potential SelfInsert among other writing no-nos (is rewriting it because she is in love with the plot but hated the way she did it.

Starting on a summer night eleven years ago, this troper wrote a set of Sailor Moon fanfics. The stories had placed the Scouts (before he knew where the Senshi originated) in his home state of Michigan, and had them fighting against he and a group of mutant cat people in various locations around the United States. After both sides reach an understanding, they fight against the Brotherhood of Nod and succeed in halting the spread of tiberium. Later in the series, since he didn't have any knowledge of the Outer Senshi, he ended up creating a different batch of characters for Sailor Saturn and beyond. These were the first fanfics he ever wrote, and while he won't delete them from his computer (yeah, he's sentimental) he is also much too ashamed of them to post them on the Internet, not even for {{MST}} bait. They show an utter disregard for the characters' respect and dignity (giving Sailors Jupiter and Venus different civilian names due to not understanding what they were, for instance), depicts a Self-Insert who is a borderline MartyStu, places the story in '''Michigan''', for crying out loud... I'm sorry, I can't go on.

Ah, the crappy old days when I first wrote fan fiction. Such gems as a retelling of the Star Wars Trilogy nearly verbatim with the only difference being Jar Jar in the background reflecting on how this relates to the past. A Pokemon story wherein Giovanni monologues about the nature of life, love, and death while characters commit suicide in the background. A Simpsons story, despite the fact that I'd never watched more than two episodes. A Kingdom Hearts story (you guessed it - never played the game either) which ends with a literal DeusExMachina when our heroes are saved when ''God shows up and kills Chernabog''. Sigh. Luckily, they were all purged years ago and I have actually improved as a writer somewhat. I even wrote a story that ended up in this site's fanfic recs (which one? Ah, but that would be telling)

This troper has quite a few stories that fell under Old Shame, especially from what he considers his "early years" of writing (2000-2003); The most notible example being a crossover between CardCaptorSakura and {{Rugrats}}, which had a paper-thin plot, terrible spelling, poor narration, and plenty of wasted potential. Even though the cast of his more recent series of stories (Written from 2005-present) did have a {{Mary Sue}} or two, he still considers it an improvement over his earlier work in the fact he better narrated what was going on. However, he still writes in a script format, mainly for legacy purposes.

This Troper inverts this trope in quite a fashion. His first attempt at [=RP=]'ing was described as "amazing". His first fan fiction (''Twilight Valley'') was ''very'' well received. His first writing for a college level creative writing class blew everyone away including the ''professor''. Of course, he does have some shitastic writing:

A bizarre story that takes the concept of a DragonRider and transplants it to modern day New York City. It was in the format of a journal and chronicled the life of a [=NYPD=] dragon (who served as a mount for the mounted police). The Troper himself is literally the only person on earth to have ''ever'' seen it.

A piece of writing that was demanded by the creative writing professor. It was all dialogue and it sucked big time. So bad that the Troper ''himself'' flat out ''refused'' to read it aloud.

Though it's already on the main page, the example about Liam Black might as well go here. It's amazing how much I screwed up in hindsight.

This Troper's first attempt at {{FanFiction}} was a {{Self Insert}} {{Massive Multiplayer Crossover}} that involved one of the main characters from square's obscure game {{Live A Live}} bringing together all of the Protagonists to fight in, of all things, a Gundam Fight. Not to mention the person who facilitates this is an {{Author Avatar}} who is a Sayian who happens to have a gundam that fuses with his Zoid of all things. The story is So Bad It's Horrible and the only reason it is permitted to exist is to remind us that just because you think something is a good idea, doesn't mean it necessarily is.

This troper once wrote a story. It was about a magical fairy girl named Eternia who was magically whisked away to New York City and sent to live with a non-magical (or is he?) boy named Joshua. They *instantly* fell in love. Did I mention that Eternia's eyes were, and I quote, "sparkling violet orbs"? *Headdesk. Headdesk. Headdesk*

Can we hear more of that?

... Really? Are you sure? Okay, I guess... So. Eternia and Joshua were in their last year of high school (which I was several years away from, and thus knew nothing about), and Eternia was great at everything, including getting the lead role in the school play. Joshua was jealous of the guy she played the love interest for, and became more despondent that she didn't notice him. And after that point, after looking over the story again, I realized that it actually got... ''good''. Eternia's character changes to less of a Sue and more of a naive but headstrong girl who just tries to survive in a place she is unfamiliar with, since her home is basically a fairy-tale land. Joshua is revealed to be half-fairy ("fay" in context), and becomes less of a jealous teenage jerk and more of a DeadpanSnarker (both of these changes were closer to the characters I had in mind when I first wrote the story). Then, Joshua's sister is revealed to be possessed by a demon, and Eternia, Joshua, and his little brother have to go back to Eternia's home to find a spellbook that can reverse the possession; they get back, Eternia casts the spell... and that's the point where I stopped writing. Said point was also when I realized that ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' was ''not'' the best thing since sliced bread, and that love stories about perfect girls were not my forte. One of the best decisions of my life, quite frankly.

This troper once wrote a crapload of fanfics, but they were in a couple of "series." The first series, "The Ultimate Warriors" (I think, and no, it has nothing to do with the guy who uses "destrucity" and "foked," in case you're wondering), was a {{Darker And Edgier}} way of writing a new ''{{Power Rangers}}'' series, and then it turned into a full-blown crossover. With a Power Ranger as a relative of several {{Marty Stu}} ones. And it had several real celebrities (game show people). The second was a ''Power Rangers'' "parody" called ''Power Rangers: World Saviors'', which was supposed to be the series' answer to ''Cho Ninja Tai Inazuma'', the ''{{Super Sentai}}'' parody. It fully invoked {{Comic Book Fantasy Casting}}, but this version of Damien was a bigger Marty Stu than his final Arcadian Legends form. And he was a coward. Both series ended up as dead fics, but some good came out of them--most of the characters from PR:WS were in ''The Arcadian Legends'' (with new character Charlie Anderson), and Miryuko was created in "The Ultimate Warriors," so I decided to bring him to the eventual series (giving him a new name: Dark Emperor Miryuko) and overhauled his entire appearance. And that's not getting into the other fanfics I wrote as a kid that were also crap...

This troper cringes when she remembers her early fanfics/attempts at original fiction (i.e., everything before early 2009). Highlights include (in rough chronological order):

A HarryPotter fic involving a clumsily handwaved half-dragon RelationshipSue, whose only purpose was to seduce Harry in five minutes and promptly commit suicide over a misunderstanding. Moreover, she had green skin and hair and her name was Darcona. Which This Troper had taken from a ''typo'' made by her writing teacher. Thankfully, the site hosting this has now been purged.

An original story involving a vampiric SympatheticSue, whose VictoriousChildhoodFriend had randomly chosen to murder her the night before the wedding. No, there was absolutely no hint that he would do this, and This Troper still has no idea why ''her character'' chose to do such a thing. Plot holes abounded, and the PurpleProse that the first-person narrator loved to engage in made the whole thing mostly-unreadable. To top it off, the title was ''So Fades The Lovely Betrayed Rose''. Note that This Troper, at the time, thought this was good.

Another ''HarryPotter'' fic, written for the same class, inventively titled ''Harry Potter and the Final Battle''. Unbelievable coincidences, in-text author's notes, and heavy anime influence ran amok over what, in its essence, wasn't ''technically'' a terrible plot (albeit a generic one).

A never-finished SailorMoon fic, in which a trio of {{Villain Sue}}s stole the spotlight, used GratuitousJapanese at every opportunity, and killed innocents. Suffered from confusing plotting, RonTheDeathEater (regarding the original Queen Serenity), and MoodWhiplash, not to mention YouKeepUsingThatWord in regards to the name of one of the new senshi.

A confused mishmash of HarryPotter AU and original story, in which groups of fictional villains competed in a Big Brother-like reality show, hampered only slightly by the fact that This Troper had never seen a reality show. Highlights included a talking hamster, an extremely out-of-character Voldemort, a BigLippedAlligatorMoment involving an evil microwave, and nuclear annihilation of the mansion. This one was, in comparison, not actually that bad, and some moments were pretty funny. In fact, it paled in comparison to the next and worst two.

Yet ''another'' HarryPotter fic, in which a cliche plot was retreaded, Bellatrix Lestrange got the DracoInLeatherPants treatment, and Ginny inexplicably went crazy.

A quickly abandoned pseudo-epic HarryPotter fic, this time featuring Bella In Leather Corsets. The existence of a plot was debatable, PurpleProse made the narration almost unreadable, and OCStandIn Rabastan Lestrange was rapidly elevated to SympatheticSue (and then BlackHoleSue) status by virtue of being, in this troper's imagination alone, a NietzscheWannabe ManipulativeBastard. Looking back, this was somewhat inexplicable and serves as a warning: when the main character, ''herself'' a dubious VillainSue reinterpretation of a canon character, is eclipsed by an even worse VillainSue, it's time to put down the keyboard. Strangely, this one (which is still posted on my Fanfiction.net account) is far more popular than my better current fanfic, which features most of the same characters but treats them satirically. Hmm...

This troper shudders when he looks back. His first ever fiction was poorly written. Handwritten. ON PLAIN PAPER. NO LINES. Also, my handwriting is absolutely terrible, so even I couldn't read it. But the plot itself was worse. Basically- Brains. Aliens that are brains with hands, feet and eyes invade earth for no reason, then I pull a switch which somehow gets rid of them all. Then there was my fanfiction, which all started out relatively light-hearted but usually turned dark before the second chapter. For example- Kirby Fanfic! Kirby defeats Metaknight, but gets caught in some kind of trap and teleported to another planet, covered in Kirbys, with each one having a power on all of the time! Kirby makes friends with Fire, Beam and Stone, and with their help defeats Whispy woods yet again and celebrates! and then finds out that Metaknight is the ruler of the planet, who orders that everyone on it kill Kirb- Wait what where did the happy go.

This Troper must be a NightmareFetishist. Every once in a while, I go back to my old writing (The stuff from middle school is the worst... anything after that still seems decent, and anything before it is kind of quaint) and read it all, remembering how I thought it was awesome. In an interesting way this trope works, for my current (original) story I'm going to have to include a passable sex scene. So I've been practicing... the thing about sex scenes is that for me they IMMEDIATELY become OldShame. I recently wrote one I could go back and read without wincing. Go me!

This Troper's fanfiction prior to the age of 13. (Which included {{Pokemon}}, KingdomHearts, LegendofZelda, and HarryPotter) She's gotten much better since then, but she still considers anything she's currently not working on an OldShame.

On a similar note, This Troper's old drawings. Upon discovering her old sketchbooks from seventh grade and looking through them, she felt the urge to burn them all. At least it's easy to see how much I've improved over three years.

Both played straight and averted by this troper. Most of the fanfiction I wrote was fairly decent, and I even go back to read it sometimes. On the other hand, I've also made a Flash rip-off of Quest for Camelot. The less said about it, the better.

This troper once tried doing a few let's plays (some you may find on viddler, and others in screenshot format I'm not linking to). The contents? A SMW Rom-hack, a blatant rip-off of a much better LP (MegaMan 2), various games I didn't finish due to suckitude/laziness, and very infrequent updates. I also have fanfiction NOT on fanfiction.net that I'm also not linking to due to the sheer crap in them. This trope also applies to most of my older youtube videos.

So very guilty. My first real attempt at FanFic was a terriblly written and horribly unfinished ''{{Inuyasha}}'' fic, followed soon by not one, but TWO Mary Sue self-insert Sailor Moon fics. Added to a few early chapters of a Gundam Wing fan fic that progressively got better, and you have my old shames in a nutshell.

This Troper, while just out of the tween years and still working on escaping middle school, is so glad that none of her fanfictions were ever halfway towards decently popular. (The, by now deleted, 'stories' would include a Mary-Sue, self insert, as well as blatanly ripping off another FanFic.

Tropers/ShayGuy: My lame ''VideoGame/PaperMario'' pseudo-self-insert is thankfully nowhere to be found and was never posted online, but some pretty cruddy/pointless stuff is still out there. I currently have a ''fear'' of this as part of my broader fear of Doing Things Wrong, which hasn't helped progress on any of my writing projects. (I've played with the idea of writing stuff I don't care about the quality of, but {{NaNoWriMo}} didn't help much.) Not to mention the fact that I apparently had no taste in ''others''' media for much of my life (and occasionally ''still'' have trouble spotting turds).

This troper has, in the past, partially written a bizarre {{Tenchu}} fanfiction, some god-awfully deriviative fantasy, and created a Sonic The Hedgehog OC who was just a Tails recolour with a tail lopped off who later developed into a full-blown {{Mary Sue}} with his own little extra-dimensional empire (that was rooted in liberalism, whilst also being bizarrely totalarian). Looking back, I'm glad I grew out of that last phase.

This troper is physically incapable of making herself read some of her earlier works, despite the fact that they are, by all accounts, reasonably well-written and lacking errors. They're just so... so ''shallow'' and ''insipid'' and ''blatantly written by a girl who's never had a meaningful relationship and sat firmly on the light side of the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism''...

This troper never wrote much in his life; most of the stuff I imagine I simply keep for myself, specially nowadays (altough I do plan on putting some of them on paper, eventually). However, back when I was a young 11 years old boy and was in love with the Harry Potter books, I wrote something... something so vile and horrible that even at that age I had enough conscience to stop writting it before reaching the third chapter... it was a crossover... a crossover between Harry Potter... and Aliens. Yes. THOSE ''Film/{{Alien}}''''s''. ''Argh''.

I used to make games when I was 13/14. Well, I only ever actually finished two. They were supposed to be parodies of SonicTheHedgehog but in practice they really just a lame mash of platformers I liked with the story stolen from Sonic games topped with really juvenile humor. Occasionally I do a Google search for my old Freewebs site containing it just to make sure it's buried so far in the rankings that no one will find it.

This troper has two seriously old shames in the form of fanfiction.

The first of these, is a now not on the internet Yu-gi-oh/Totally Spies/Power Rangers crossover with a Marty Sue self insert and Mary Sue self insert of my sister, who both had an extra Millenium item each. And thats before the Justice League rip off that comprised of Megaman.EXE characters... and others who I can't remember, and then there was a crossover with GX to add NINJA RANGERS (Given that an extra ranger had been added already along with both Green and White Rangers). Unless someone else has put it up, this thing only exists on my old virus ridden CPU now.

My second fanfiction which is still up on my fanfiction.net account is Empower the Cybeasts, a crossover between MEgaman Battle Network 6 (Cybeasts only)... and Legend of the Dragon. There is a reason it hasn't been updated since 2008. If you want to take a look at it my username is Kamen Rider Leonite.

I also used to RP on a borad, where my character ended up becoming a shapeshifter who could turn into digimon and had an amazoness girlfriend. In a fantasy setting where my guy was originally a werewolf. I'd like to apoligise to that board for the problems I caused.

This troper's first ever fanfiction was never published online and was written in a beat up old notebook over maybe a month or so. That notebook may still exist somewhere in the far reaches of this tropers's closet, but as long as she can help it, it will NEVER again see the light of day. My second and third fanfics also count, although they ARE online. Really, everything before 2008 that wasn't a oneshot counts...actually yeah, the oneshots count too. Also if this troper had ever gotten around to writing that DeathNote / {{Labyrinth}} / OuranHighSchoolHostClub / AvatarTheLastAirbender / {{Bleach}} / {{Marvel}} / CodeGeass / {{Yu-Gi-Oh}} / SailorMoon / DragonBallZ / HouseMD crossover, it inevitably would've become this.

This troper used to have lots of Sonic recolors, all of which had no personality and all were huge Mary Sues. Even worse, I was inspired by the terrible sh*** called Bludshot the Hedgehog.

This troper has a laundry list of old shames full of poor writing, lack of plot, questionable characterizations. The only one that she actually liked was this one pretty AU Digimon fic w/ Sokeru...and yet that one was the only one of her fanfics that was deleted on FF.net. But anyways, the ONE fanfic that she calls her old shame above all else was the hastily poorly written IRL fanfic of her two completely straight best guy friends. Yes, this troper actually wrote a fanfic about her two best guy friends together like that...and featured the guy she liked and her as a BetaCouple. It was really just a running joke between three of my friends and I but another friend found out and decided to tell everybody about it. Needless to say it caused a lot of strain on a few friendships but thankfully with a lot of apologies and a summer of separation, things got better. The better of my two friends (who was dating my sister at the time) did admit it was written pretty well after he stopped being mad about it.

In the depths of this troper's computer, there is a story written entirely in papyrus, and another in ''eye-searing red''. And yes, this is indicative of the quality. She also wrote a very lengthy Star Wars fanfic that completely butchered just about every character and some delightfully cliched romances.

As a subversion, This troper isn't ashamed to admit that he's rather proud of the first story he ever posted on Fanfiction.net (however, he would like to eventually go back and do a rewrite of it). However, his earlier works, which are still lingering somewhere in the depths of Quizilla, are a completely different matter entirely.

This Troper, in a PSL-induced craze (for Dark Magician Girl, for those morbidly curious), has written several writing assignments as SelfInsert MagicalGirlfriend fics starring me and her. I also kept a journal consisting of journal-style letters to Sasami in PrettySammy. He also has related cosplay old shame (as Dark Magician) that was photographed and PUT IN THE FREAKIN' YEARBOOK. Did I mention this all happened in the 4[[superscript:th]] GRADE?

I had quite a few Mary Sues when I was younger. Fortunately, I never posted them as fanfiction.

This troper used to start a few flamewars on newsgroups/forums. Fortunately, those are all gone as the ISP killed those services.

I have a bunch of notebooks containing an old, badly-written MarySue-centric fic, as well as some old AMVs with crappy editing. I was in fifth grade, okay?

This Troper looks back at the time he complained about the Autism joke on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses ItJustBugsMe page, as a really, ''really'' stupid decision on my part. I really shouldn't have had any problem with the joke, although there is still some distaste to Doug's comment, I think I should have kept it to myself.

Back in 2006, I decided to write a Naruto/Fire Emblem Crossover fic. Not only was it in script format at first, but I wrote an Out of Character moment for Soren (Having him demolish a tree Naruto was in out of annoyance), and tried to unsuccessfully splice the Naruto characters in the game plot, despite the fact that you would have to majorly change aspects to make it fit properly. Plus I could not write action scenes to save my life. Now all this would have been bad enough... If I didn't post it on the GameFAQS Fire Emblem board and later the Naruto board. It got two chapters before I pulled the plug. My second attempt at a fic, A MegaCrossover based on Super Smash Bros Brawl's adventure mode is something I consider to be decent, but ultimately let down by my inability to cope with the sheer scope of the story. I still like my draft of the third preview chapter, even if the character writing is wonky.

Just hear this: a certain person decided to write a fic about an anime that she never wanted to saw. What happened? Kuronue, a minor character gets a primary rol because the author has a crush on him. And that's not it! He gets a dead sister and two little nieces who happen to be twins. And he has to take care of them by becoming a flat dad!! Oh, but the twist is...the father of the girls is an invented major villiain who, also, has been helding prisoner...a third sister!! AAND...the plot was beetwen knowing that third sister existed, saving her, living a Sue life and making Kuronue (who is a crow in the canon)get over his now invented fear of flying while everything is happening!! And I have more bull like this, but those are other tales...Assuming I wrote that bull while I was 12 years old, was that stupid and my friends forced me to get in the fandom of the anime, wich I didn't!!

Wanna see one of the worst things I ever drew? I can't even stand to look at it. It was a Sonic fancharacter I made as a kid. I still draw the character, but she has absolutely nothing to do with Sonic these days (as I despise the series and the whole idea of fancharacters), and I scrapped the chao. Not to mention I changed her color scheme to be not completely assy, made her look unrelated to anything Sonic, and gave her hair. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of that on my Imageshack.

This troper has a huge file of fanfiction in her computer which was thankfully never unleashed onto the internet. Her works include Mary Sues, character derailment, bad writing, and ungodly amounts of purple prose. Inverted with her first [=AMVs=] made however, while by no means anything that great or spectacular, she's still rather proud of what she created at the time with little to no experience.

I used to cry about a lot of things (I'm a guy, by the way) even into my early teens. Getting a shot? Cue the water works. Bad day? Boo hoo. Twist my ankle? Get me a tissue. Luckily I've gone to the polar opposite side of that now (it takes something huge to get me to shed a tear), but the fact that things that barely cause me to swear once caused me to bawl is something I wish I could just erase.

Christ, I was the same way. (Also a guy.) It's embarrassing as all hell.

The original draft of my 1st original story is like this. The main characters were all Mary Sues, the plot was cliched as hell and ran mostly on contrived coincidence, there was next to no introduction before the action began. To sum it up, it sucked. After looking through it a bit I changed the characters to be more flawed, the plot got less cliched (I left some in but lampshaded them), I worked the coincidences into the story so they actually make sense, and I added a decent intro.

This troper once wrote AND finished a SailorMoon/ DragonBallZ/ {{Pokemon}}/{{Kirby}} Crossover comedy/horror fanfic set in a nondescript desert, living together in a house and avoiding a weird ghost. Yes, it's as bad as the description makes it to be. The fic is still out there somewhere on the internet, but I'd rather not even look for it. Also, I started a Twilight Princess fic... around early 2005, way before the game came out. I never finished it.

This troper, to her eternal shame, wrote Harry Potter rip-offs in 2nd grade. And most of her work was terrible and incoherent up until 5th grade or so. Except for the Tsubasa fic she wrote in 7th grade that attempted to be a Tsubasa/+ Anima/Lord of the Rings crossover. Though lots of her old stuff was fairly decent. Oh, except for those Kingdom Hearts fanfics. Dear lord.

This troper went to the trouble of deleting everything she's ever written off fanfiction.net and changing the pen name, just so nobody will ever recognize her.

This troper once made a particularly painful Zelda OC who was a blatant GaryStu. Years later, he edited the forum post to link back to this very page.

This Troper has a possible subversion. At 14, he was an roleplayer in a Sonic roleplay guild. He could not be decisive about anything. He made and deleted characters in a split second. He had a more lasting main cast that he constantly retconned (even through ways such as completely rewriting their backstories, changing their powers, and changing their species) in a rather futile attempt to create better Sonic fan characters (which probably just confused my fellow [=RPers=].) His characters, although not those incredibly humanoid anthros that people pass off as Sonic fan characters, did ''not'' fit into the Sonic universe well. However, despite being somewhat embarrassed by his old [=RPing=] when he looks back at it, this Troper does acknowledge it as fun at the time (albeit not very well written fun.)

On a similar note, the same Troper is ashamed of how pathetic he thinks he was in his childhood.

When I was in second or third grade, I recall having mental ideas for an alternate ''{{Pokemon}}''/''{{Yu-Gi-Oh}}''/whatever-else fanwork while watching the Pokemon anime. Since this occured before I began to visit more than three sites on the internet in my leisure, you might already see how this is going to go.

This troper has both fanfic and original stuff to be ashamed of. The original stuff goes back to when he was twelve, with his epic fantasy series that was sure to be the stuff of legends one day, except it had no real development or characterisation and really only feels more original than Eragon because I took from more source material than it did. The subsequent fanfic stuff was, in most cases, better written, but still bad, including legions of 500-word Digimon pornfics, an adaptation of a Teen Titans futanari comic, and all kinds of things that he never wants to update again, but which get well-recieved on Fanfiction.net to his utter amazement. He still writes original and fanfiction (and not particularly any less pornographic than the old shame stuff), but his writing is always improving, which always opens the door for just a little more to be ashamed of.

This troper had an idea for a fantasy series a few years ago, consisting of around twelve books (the number rapidly shrank). The first one was the one I concentrated the most on. It was a dragon/rider story, and it had LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters, a little BreakingTheFourthWall, a shitload of {{Shout Out}}s, and a lot of PlotHoles and problems such as how the magic works, the exact sizes of the dragons, where they lived... if I'd had a clue what I was doing, it would have been quite a good story, and there were good bits, such as the originality and some of the humour. But now, I just wish I could forget about it. I have salvaged some of my favorite characters for other uses, though.

I'm embarrassed over the fact I used to run an RPG forum... and that I used to partake in it, and even more at what we actually came up with.

This troper stumbled across some of her very, very old fanficiton the other day, and was horrified that I ever thought I was a good writer back then. They were in ''script format'' for Pete's sake.

This troper is constantly being recognized for a poem which she wrote at the age of nine within twenty minutes, which was eventually set by an admiring teacher to a poetry contest, where it actually won, being recognized as one of the top ten poems in this troper's state. Sound good? It isn't. Despite the fact that I have written multiple other poems and even large pieces of original fiction, that poem remains the one thing I am recognized for. That poem, with a cringe-worthy PainfulRhyme in the first stanza and a rather disturbing amount of depressing subtext (The main idea of the poem is that the narrator doesn't want to be idealized or given praise, but wants the world to see her as she is: a flawed, lonely person who doesn't want love. Remember that this troper was nine at the time). This troper is very, very displeased with the fact that that poem remains her most popular work.

This troper started a few interesting ideas, including one that stars an out-of-work superhero and his estranged daughter. Unfortunately, ItGotWorse. It, along with another 2007-era relic, were the only ones ever completed. Really, it's best we not talk about it.

Pretty much ANYTHING This Troper wrote before 16. Where do I even begin?

I started writing by making absolutely horrible {{Digimon}} self-insert fluff. Then moved on to {{Yu-gi-oh}} and didn't get much better. I will never let myself live it down. Ever. Thankfully none of it was ever published.

Then there was my first comic. Oh god. 30 Pages of it and none if those pages made any sense at all. Then at the end it conveniently remembered it had a plot to get to. Yes, I essentially wrote ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' in comic form. With gay furries. I'M SO ASHAMED OH GOD.

Amusingly, my second one was basically the same thing. But replace furries with a demon and self-insert sue. What's worse is that it WAS self-published at one point. :'D Thankfully, only two copies exist, and they are both mine. One of these days, I have every intention of burning them.

Almost everything this Troper wrote before hitting sixteen is a huge source of shame. My roleplaying on Gaiaonline before fifteen, however? Absolutely cringe-worthy and I need to apologize to the people who sat through it.

There is a reason this troper doesn't post any of his novels on the internet: he doesn't have a fanfiction.net account (helps that I don't write fan fiction: I prefer writing proper novels). However, there is one story I've written that will never see the light of day except for under pain of death. Subvertion: the first novel I've written is actually pretty good, although still a bit unfinished from starting it a year ago due to ADCD.

This Troper tries not to acnowledge his OrphanedSeries, poor sprite-recolours, plagiarizing and cliched attempt at a story, or his first blog. It is difficult.

This Troper once wrote Pokémon fanfiction which story focused on a crosseyed Pikachu who was madly in love with a female Pikachu that was married to a Diglett a long time ago. People from a forum she posted it on a long time ago still remember it and start telling how great it was. It became somewhat of a meme, and she became known as "the author of the crosseyed pikachu fic" in many Brazilian Pokémon forums, much to her dislike.

This Troper (Tropers/CCharmanderK) absolutely despises his earlier fan fictions.

My first fanfiction was an absolute mess. Intended to be a DarkFic of SonicSatAM, set in the future when Robotnik is defeated and Mobuis returns to normal, was supposed to be a war-based, T-rated fic, but I hadn't even plotted out the story in the slightest, and every bit of dialogue was overly wrought and cheesy, often delving directly into LargeHam territory. Understandably, I stopped it.

Next was a DigimonTamers DarkFic. It was also to be war-based (I was obsessed with war-styled fiction at the time), but it was brought to an end by similar methods to the above. First off, I was putting in too much profanity; I was in my early teens, so I was understandably fascinated with swearing, and decided that the more I put in, the "edgier" it'd be. It got to an absolutely absurd level in the fic, and quickly became Narm. I also didn't plot out the story fully here, but this was better off than the above. At least I had some important events planned out: Terriermon's death and Jenrya's subsequent HeriocBSOD, Juri and Takato getting together and having sex, Ruki forcing herself onto Takato and the subsequent complications arisen from the aforementioned sex scene, etc. This was also dropped.

This troper's first ''{{Warrior Cats}}'' fanfic. It centred around a cat named Brokendream and her quest to save all non-Clan cats from a psychotic purist cat named Rainstorm, who could hypnotise others. Among other names were Stuart, Brainstew, and a mysterious anonymous female. As for my writing style itself: #QUOTE#"I couldn't let you go alone," the blue tabby replied. "If an innocent cat is going to have to face danger alone... I'll die with her." He spoke brave words.

Oh, my god. Now admittedly, I still have a soft spot for ''some'' of my old fanfics. However, when I think about it, it's just... gah! It had started out as a simple TenchiMuyo / SonicTheHedgehog crossover (because I got tired of the Tenchi / SailorMoon and Tenchi / Ranma fanfics) only to devolve into a MegaCrossover that got its plug pulled half way through a SuperRobotWars fanfic I had started. Where do I start? How about bashing Archie Sonic and TenchiInTokyo (in the worse way possible: blowing up Yugi's cave [side note here: I had actually fused the {{OVA}}s, Universe and Tokyo into one massive universe. Thank you Cartoon Network! As well, I backpedaled and decided to try to work on the obvious Sasami/Yugi pairing]), revived Shadow after his presumed death in SonicAdventure2, accidentally started the Mina the Mongoose/Shadow the Hedgehog pairing, turned Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow into Super Saiyan-like beings, my SelfInsert hedgehog with ''Gundam armor''. Let's not even get ''started'' on my 9/11 entry. Yes, ''this troper wrote a September 11th fanfic''. Two days after the event! And threw in Spider-Man months before Marvel did the same in Amazing Spider-Man! If that's not an OldShame, I don't know what ''is''!

This Troper has two flavours of this

First, a terrible old Sonic fanfiction. Thankfully, it wasn't as awful and unoriginal and the average first fic. An original cat character called Ice was the main character, who lived in a forest with a race of flying blue fluffballs (Who somehow had superior technology to the rest of the world despite not even having thumbs), because he was orphaned by his Mother, who'd been killed by the BigBad (A corrupt, exiled blue fluffball). When Ice discovered this, he managed to find and/provoke him, causing him to wage war on the BLUE FLUFFBALLS, forcing them to live in a single building with an amazing energy shield all around it (I used energy shields a lot for some reason), until the leader used Wikipedia to find out about Sonic the Hedgehog and promptly sent Ice to go find him. That was about five chapters in though. The rest of the story was about teaming up with Sonic and Tails to find the Chaos Emeralds (and spend several scattered chapters competing in Extreme Gear tournaments. I really liked Sonic Riders at the time) because they were needed to power the weapon that the leader had built to stop the Big Bad. And after that, Evil Blue Fluffball went into space for no good reason, hacked their satellite (?) and used it to make himself huge (???), all so that Ice had a good reason to go into a Super form and fight him in space. I mean, what. At the very least, I realized how bad it was and rewrote the whole thing. My writing style actually started to improve towards the end of rewriting the sequel (which was even more horribly contrived than the first, but I won't go into that), but I hadn't done all that much to make the plot, characters or setting any better. Ice had generic ice powers (which he had because of some "organ", apparently (which never got referred to again)), a second OC was a flying squirrel who was psychic and a third was a music obsessed chameleon who could go through walls. Argh

What's worse is that I ended up using the character as my online alias. To counter this, once I gave up with the fanfic (after realizing how bad it was), I kept using his design and used it to represent myself. For a while, anyways. I recently just went and redesigned him. This (the one on the left), was him before and this is him now. No Anthropomorphism (I made him into a catboy rather than being entirely human, because changing my username everywhere would be a pain, not to mention I've been using it for years now. Although I've been using a shorter variation of it recently, though it's still cat related), no powers, no shitty universe.

Anyways, enough about Ice. Second taste. MitadakeSaga. It's my current project. A webcomic about high school kids getting trapped in their school with a murderer. Fun stuff. Except, I started it long before I could remotely draw well. I've gone over the earlier pages several times, just to get them to look somewhat acceptable (and I've even failed in that regard...), some of the really early ones at least five times. It doesn't help that the site has a buffer of around fifty pages, meaning the pages I'm putting up now are horrible in my eyes now, even though I was really proud of them when I first drew them. What's worse, is that now that I have a small following (enough to warrant a TVTropes page), there's not much I can do about it. I would love to go back and redraw the first 100 pages now, but I really can't because there's people waiting for updates. It would take far too long to do, not to mention I really want to get to the better parts of the story (I don't like the events of the first arc, -which I'm still on-). Worst of all is, if I did redraw them, I'd only grow to hate the redrawn versions too. Agh

This troper never wrote fanfiction, but when it comes to...anything I ever write (Which is only when I have to, for school), it's not even old shame. I hate what I'm writing while I'm writing it, get irritated if anyone wants to read it, and cringe if they read it out loud. Apparently, my teachers disagree, as I usually get good grades.

Let's see... this Troper made a horrid Digimon fic at the age of twelve (he's 23 now), which Fanfiction.net deleted on it's own due to the script format. He made a few attempts at sprite comics... all of them failing. He DID, however, create and write a Beetleborgs story that he wrote in fourth grade (Years before discovering fanfiction), and is considering rewriting the whole idea as a CrackFic. He also keeps some old drawings of an anime parody concept around... somewhere. Whether they make it to the net or not depends on if he can ever save the money up for a scanner.

@/{{Korodzik}}'s old custom ''{{Doom}}'' levels, published under the nickname "Illdo" (and, unfortunately, his real name as well.) Paragons of suckiness. They do everything that ''Doom'' levels aren't supposed to do.

He feels pretty bad about pretty much all of his ''{{Homestuck}}'' fan-art and fan-fic. There's one story which looked like a daring psychological exploration when he wrote it, but now it looks like an utterly disgusting {{wangst}}fest. Conclusion: DON'T publish anything you wrote as a mood-swinging immature teenager.

This Troper once mentioned, off-hand, his xenophilia to someone other than a close friend. Cue retching and running away.

This Troper wrote some pretty awful Star Fox fanfics last summer, filled to the brim with OOC moments, overly long author notes, and Big Lipped Alligator Dialogue. He wrote two of them in less than a month, and another over the period of a month.He refuses to read them anymore, as they are just too shallow and horribly written to make it though two chapters. However, he is more than happy to look back at his recent fics.

This troper has way too often looked at old message board posts and thought, "Did I really write this shit?"

This Troper, in another non-fanfiction example, experiences pangs of OldShame on a near-constant basis. The funny thing was, it was ''extremely'' well recieved (to the point where several people got mad that she took them down), she was just really, really embarrassed by them.

This troper has a peculiar axiom: nearly anything he's '''''done''''' half a year ago ends up as {{Old Shame}}. As an example, half a year ago he's been thinking about some things, "Will they become {{Old Shame}} as well? I sure hope not.". Half a year past, ''they have''. With that said, everything he's ever written is {{Old Shame}} for him. And he showed it to people. Gaaaagh. *claws eyes out in shame*

I have three, all Pokemon fanfics. Two were so bad I had them deleted within months, (one while it was still incomplete) but one I've allowed to live. It's an Ash/Jessie shipping oneshot called "Mother and Child." I wrote it when I was 16 years old and emotionally insecure, and boy, does it show. I've taken its status in stride thus far, as there's still an audience for it. Heck, even the Fanfiction.com version, which I edited the crap out of to avoid copyright law issues, they're much more strict about it than the forum I originally posted the work on, still get on people's subscription/favorite lists every now and then.

This troper, at one point, wrote and produced his own rap songs and defiled songs by artists much better than him. So Bad It's Horrible would not even begin to describe it. The sheer quantity of forced rhymes and awful puns and incessant geeky references caused him to shred every single page of his rhymebook a few months later in disgust. Part of the problem came from me thinking that I could flow like {{Nas}} when I was, at best, at the level of {{SouljaBoy}} and couldn't even stay on beat or freestyle to save my life. The production wasn't AS horrible, but it was the product of someone who couldn't use FL Studio that well. To top it all off, I attempted to record this shit on outrageously ghetto equipment(a CD player and an incredibly low grade mic built into an MP3 player). Unlike rapping, however, I still want to get back to production, and this time really get (and learn how to use) some real resources to make beats.

It wasn't all bad, though, I did remix the entirety of Jay-Z's ''Black Album'' and made it sound half-decent, if very artificial.

This troper used to write ''Yu-Gi-Oh!'' fanfiction, and it was just about the most horrible thing you could imagine. It was a ThirtySuePileup with most of the cast being Expies of canon characters, and the plot was a completely incomprehensible XanatosRoulette. It was so terrible, I actually MSTed it once. To repeat: ''I MSTed my own fanfiction''.

I also can't look at any of my artwork from more than a few years ago without cringing.

Theres so many things from the past that Id rather remain in the past. Until the age of 14 I was a whiney little crybaby, who never did anything fun, and I feel I have wasted my childhood being like that. There was also the book me and my friend wrote at age 16 and tried to get published. Looking back on it, its not that good, and I can see why nobody wanted to publish it. Then there was the fanfiction. At age 12 I started a diary, but my life was boring, so I decided to turn it into a self insert fanfiction about my favourite TV show, where they lived in my world, and went to school with me and stuff. It did occaisionally have true things that happened to me in it, but mostly when I couldnt think about what to write, I made up stuff from various TV shows I liked. The characterisation was nothing like the real versions of them, some things happened that I DidNotDoTheResearch on, and I was such a MarySue and it embarrasses me every time I look at it. Gradually over the years the characters I added faded out, as I began to do more things in real life, and made more friends. I still keep the diary going, but now it is about my every day life, with stuff I did at college, things me and my friends did together and all the normal things. The only reason I keep it, is that it contains some real life thoughts by me that I do want to keep hold of. It is hidden away in my room, so nobody can ever read it.

This troper's father had the misfortune of being assigned to write the infamous BaldursGate novelizations. He hates them as much as BaldursGate fans do and says the biggest mistake of his career was not publishing them under a pseudonym.

This troper once wrote a Transformers/Thomas the Tank Engine fanfic. Which was actually surprisingly popular, but he feels it's not his best work, nonetheless.

This troper found a ''HarryPotter'' fanfic he wrote at age 14. It involved the title character and Hagrid being picked up at the Saginaw airport, and that was mercifully as far as I got.

This troper averts this with all her old stories. They're still kinda good and most of it is still canon, even if they need some {{Ret Con}}s. But then there was Scourgelands. It crossed her storyverse with Warcraft (which would still work in the content), but managed to derail not only Arthas, but her own canon as well. OWOWOWOWOW!

This troper used to be a wannabe-emo. Yes, that's right, ''a wannabe-emo''. Ugh...

This troper considers his time spent on Survival Of The Fittest, due to his rather terrible behavior.

This troper sat down and created the Mortiverse one day out of boredom. Seeing it brought up nowadays stirs feelings that are partly pride ("I made something that people remember!"), but mostly OldShame.

This troper wrote a lot of god-awful {{Metroid}} fanfics that included several Mary Sue Space Pirates and were really just poorly executed. Thankfully, they vanished from the internet along with the NSider forums. She did, however, keep the villains from those stories and rework them.

This troper has made a playthrough of CastlevaniaIIIDraculasCurse (First video here) and while he is not ashamed of this video, he cannot say alot about the intro and ending. He even says to some guy on the internet that (by the time he made the comment) it was a shame of two years and he never repeats the same crap he has done since (except for the next video which was a list of support comment from Fire Emblem 8 in multi part only it was part 1) and that his comment was pointless.

This Troper discovered the computer and Internet in general when she was twelve. Before then, her one-dimensional, Sue-ridden, implausible fanfiction had stayed safely in her mind; after, it all came spewing out. "Nightmare Before Christmas" took the brunt of this fail-storm, with fic after fic about various self-insert characters somehow meeting Sally and becoming her Best Friend Forever. Most of these were in script format, one involved an insert named "Sallaeovenia" (after a seriously mangled interpretation of Russian naming conventions), and one was titled- not making this up- "Attack of the Demon Barbies From Hell." The fail eventually spilled over into Inuyasha, R.L. Stine's "The Mask," and, for a while, Corpse Bride. Fortunately, she began to shape up around the time CB came out and so did not commit as many heinous literary crimes in its fandom. She would also like to erase her time on Gaia.com and early artistic endeavors. *shudder*

One of two main reasons I have never allowed anything I have ever written to appear in public is so I don't have to destroy it a few years later when I realize it's utter rubbish. The other is because I'd react poorly to being told it was utter rubbish in the meantime.

I have several of these:

I once wrote a Pokemon fanfic where the main character... 1st chapter: got a TALKING Sneasel for a starter, 2. caught the first Pokemon(a Poochyena) she saw very easily, and then got discovered by the leader of the region's evil team(who apparently stalked strangers from the bushes to look for new team members), went up to her and asked her to join their team. She followed him to the "evil team base", where she found out their real intentions, and she ran away, managing to steal the Absol of one of their team members(apparently, stealing is fine if it's the good guys doing it) and in the 3rd chapter, defeated the first gym leader on the first try, very quickly. She was also supposed to get an Eevee quickly after that(which would evolve into an Umbreon) but luckily the story didn't continue beyond that. (Actually, the story was mostly supposed to be some DarkIsNotEvil thing, because... at the time I thought "dark" things were cool but at the same time, I always hated the bad guys and evilness(I think it was too much influence from my mom or something, luckily that has changed now, and now I think many bad guys are awesome) and I was sick of the bad guys always looking the coolest.)

Even worse: A story called "Soul of Darkness" which went something like this(or, this was what it was going to be like, but it never got beyond 2 or 3 chapters, but the plot was all planned out in my head. I only wrote a few chapters because... well, I was lazy, and still am): The main character was born in the "Forest of Darkness". Everyone knew about this forest, which was a bit away from the city, but no one ever went in there, because it was dark and scary and mostly inhabited mostly with various evil creatures. Anyway, she was the only non-evil character there, and walked out of there as a 10-12 year old, she apparently "felt something calling for her on the outside". She later met some other girls who instantly befriended her, despite no one else liking her when they knew where she got out from. (And somehow, she instantly knew their language, proper behavior ect. even thouh she had been spending her whole life so far in a dark and hidden place where there were no other cats - oh, did I mention they were all anthro cats?) NotThatTheresAnythingWrongWithThat, but that's pretty much the only thing that wasn't wrong with the story. Anyway, they introduced her to their other friends, and they suddenly found out they all had super powers(so they had never found that out before?). They were Blazey: fire power(yes, this was before a certain SonicTheHedgehog character), Wata: water power, Mitzy: no superpowers, but very strong, an angel cat with "light powers", and the main character whose name I can't remember: darkness powers. Then, they starting fighting evil and helping people for a while... yeah, pretty cheesy so far. And ItGetsWorse: main character suddenly gets a flashback where she as a baby got into the house of the story's Bad(yeah, he had a big house in the forest, also, he was pretty much just a weird, black blobshadow thing with red eyes, who can grow arms at his will. Yeah.) where he notices her and makes her drink a weird, black liquid from a bottle. She gets told this is the "Soul of Darkness" and it's been inside her from that time. Then, they start going back to the forest and fighting the various evil creatures, before meeting the Bad. After a long fight, he is defeated, and... I think the forest get destroyed, but I don't remember. Anyway, the angel cat explains what really happened: The creatures living here were all born by a big, evil tree, injecting each one with a "soul of darkness", making them evil. The Big Bad designed these creatures, and one day he went up to the tree to get one of the souls of darkness because he though it would come in handy. Then, main character was born, but since the tree was missing a soul, she didn't get one. Upon finding this out, he gave it to her as a baby, but it only worked if they got it from since the moment they were created. She was also created to look like "normal" people/cats so she could later go into the city and spread evilness there. (He never thought of going himself, apparently, even though he's the strongest of everyone in the forest...) But that didn't happen, and everything was good. The end!

Long before the story was even finished(which it never got), I also thought of a sequel... and later, a third story. Luckily, these weren't all ''too bad'' compared to the first one. In the sequel, they met a new girl named Kuzie, which I think was some kind of alien. (She was bald(while everyone else had human hair along with fur) with antennas, but strangely no one but the main characters noticed this or though this was weird.) At the end of the story, the group walked through several room with lots and lots of doors, which apparently was programmed in such a way that you have to go through the right door to get out, and if not, you just go into the same room over and over. (Though, some of the doors contained some surprised... like the room that was blocked by a huge cake, which they all just ate their way through.) After a while, one of them came up with the clever idea of marking the doors they had tried, so they knew which ones were left. After a while, they got up to a big platform, where Eizuk(an evil mirror image of Kuzie, a Kuzie with inverted colors. And yes, her name is spelt similarly to that, although that was unintentional.) waited for them. The others found out they also have mirror images like these... which are only inverted-color clones of themselves like Eizuk, always named the characters names backwards. They defeat them, and everything is good. The end :D (Kuzie was later STRONGLY revised(regular person(cat), hair and no antennas, no powers) and put into another world later(actually, my current OC world), as a MUCH better character. The others were just scrapped.)

For the third one, they found some kind of berries that would make them into a superpowered, "upgraded" version of themselves. There was one berry for each of them, and they could only eat the berry intended for them(Wata had a blue berry with a drop on it, ect.) or, in the worst case they could get sick, in the best case nothing would happen. I think Kuzir had left them by then, and I also had Blazey dying at the end for some reason. ...although these are horrible too, they are slightly more interesting than the start. Actually, a few of the ideas(like the room with the doors) could be cool to use in a crack story(no, not that kind of crack! Not the drug kind, either) with my current group of characters. (Here, I just make short slice-of-life-ish comic strips, with "normal" people/anthros in a realistic setting. And, they actually look like decent stories and characters.)

This troper has made quite a few original characters for various roleplaying with friends since middle school (both unstructured written roleplaying and D&D campaigns). Out of the maybe 20 or so characters I've made so far, there is only one character who I don't consider poorly thought out in hindsight. Most of my past characters have all been author avatars, flat side characters, generically insane maniacs, or simply lacking in any sort of depth. I've been trying to add more emotional and motivational depth to my most recent characters; however, having actually succeeded (I hope) in making one moderately interesting character, it's even more obvious how badly all of my past attempts turned out.

This troper tends to publically disavow all knowledge of his original (circa 1996-1998) webpage and its excessive quantities of cynicism and spelling errors. For that matter, I can't even stand to read any of the stuff on there anymore. Unfortunately, the Internet Wayback Machine has prevented it from reaching its well-deserved oblivion in the dustbin of history...

This troper would like to erase much of her years before middle school. My drawings were terrible (though I had a big spike of improvement in Eighth Grade). I tried to write a fanfic or two, and oh my gawds Mary Sue alerts abound (one was about Naruto's self-insert character of a daughter, who had a ten-tailed demon that was the daughter of the Kyuubi. The other was another self-insert Pokemon fanfic that didn't get very far. The final that I can remember was a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fic whose main character even used my name and followed the game plot to a T...), and old behavior.

This troper's first fanfic was an absolutely dreadful InvaderZim story called "Life Before Earth." It was nearly all exposition, and randomly paired Zim up with a disgusting Mary Sue named Tec (now a member of this troper's MSTing cast.)

@/{{Sen}} would love to retcon 99% of his adolescence out of existence. Asides from getting somewhat good at using Reason and gaining his library of nerdy credentials, I was a horrendously whiny, distant asshole throughout most of general school and high school. And, yeah, anything I wrote tended to blow massive chunks (one-dimensional AuthorAvatar characters? Check. Bad plotting? Check. Boring prose? Yeah. General childishness? Oui!), so no wonder I deleted just about everything I made in the past. And growing up while using the Internet is so not fun - I want to punch young!me for all the pointless hostility and self-pitying he sprayed across forums every now and then, and then punch ''again'' for atrocious RP skills at play-by-post (I once managed to have an entire fleet organised and ready to fight in ''one day''. One guy corrected me so I edited it to something more reasonable, and then said fleet got murderized by my forgetting to bring ''submarines''). Hard to draw an exact line on when it started getting better - I'd say late, late high school, but it's been uphill since uni.

This troper makes [=AMVs=], and has done for about 4 years. Safe to say, her early [=AMVs=] are downright dreadful. Not to mention that as an overly-immature teenibopper weeaboo kid back in the day, some of her Youtube comments (including responses to those who replied to her own videos) were less than enjoyable to read looking back. Not that her recent [=AMVs=] are that good either, but much less cringeworthy to watch than those early videos. (And in a few years time, this troper is sure she'll find those very videos unbearable to watch too).

All of This Troper's stories from elementary school. For example, the "Three Brave Kittins" about 3 cats that wander into the "Misty Land of Getting Lost" and then get adopted and live happily ever after. In about 3rd grade, I attempted to write an epic fantasy story about talking animals. The main character is a pony named Razzledazzle who is bullied by popular talking animal girls at her school who won't let her join their "club" because she isn't a "purebred." Razzledazzle has a secret though: she turns into a beautiful winged unicorn under the moonlight. She is secretly from the "magic world" where she is the long-lost princess and... you know where this is going. Also, my taste in music at that age is quite an Old Shame. Hilary Duff was my favorite singer.

A few webcomics this troper made a while back I consider old shame. One was basically a ripoff of ''{{Foxtrot}}'' and the other was a ripoff of ''StationV3''. Also I used to watch dubbed episodes of ''{{Bleach}}'' on YouTube, even though I could have rented the UNCUT [=DVDs=] on Netflix. *sigh*

This troper manages to pull off the most convoluted version of this that even she has to step back and ask "What the hell?" To date, all of my stories are Old Shames as soon as (and, in more than one case, ''before'') I finish them. I waver on posting but eventually psyche myself into it to see if I can get some advice, end up getting one or two reviews, and then forget about the work. The thing is, I never bothered to change my FF.net account, so I still get emails for my old stories, which prompt me to look back, reminisce, and wonder what in the world was wrong with me... and whether or not I ever grew out of it.

A certain Forum Game that this troper made wasn't exactly well thought-out and it was poorly received by Forum gamers. These days, he decides to avoid the Forum Game section of the Forum to forget all about it.

This troper generally finds everything he writes either poor or average, but his English Language teacher says he has a gift for writing. She even said this when he wrote a page worth of writing about his own past as well, something he had never done before in his past and regretted while writing it.

This troper wrote a story in late 2010 (it's currently March 2011), and even if it's not completely "old", she is ashamed of it. It was for a school writing assignment. The assignment was to write a scary story. It was supposed to give us a break from serious writing, but it just stressed this troper further. Her original idea was basically an unintentional Inception rip-off (she hasn't seen Inception, but now she knows what it's about and it's very similar). She scrapped the idea because it would have exceeded the 2 page limit. Then she wrote a horrible story about eating her brother and being eaten by her dad in a dream and then having it happen in real life. Luckily, when she writes now, her stories are nowhere near as bad as that.

This troper's old art. It was terrible, and apparently I didn't know that people have cheekbones. I've gotten much better, and have a couple of watchers on Deviant Art. I'm very happy that my people aren't Noodle People anymore, either.

I feel like I may have posted here before, but I'm not sure so I'll elaborate now.

First off, fanfiction! When I was in middle school, I wrote three fanfics. One was about ''TeenTitans''. One was about ''SpiritedAway''. One was about ''DigimonTamers''. They all SUCKED, oh dear god. Special mentions to the last two, for having shameless self-insert characters, who thankfully did not actually do enough stuff to count as Mary Sues but are still embarassing. This troper changed her FF.net pen-name, and deleted all the stories out of embarassment.

Next, I've made a fair number of [=AMVs=] in my life. The older ones are somewhat awful. That said, I'm not really too ashamed of them, as I knew I'd improve with practice.

As a final note, the most embarassing thing I have ever done was a NoodleIncident in 7th grade which I will not elaborate on here (or anywhere). It involved ''CodeLyoko'' and Neopets. AND THAT IS ALL WE SHALL SAY ABOUT THAT. *headdesk*

This troper's early involvement in [=RPs=]. My grammar was terrible, and I generally played extreme JerkSues, though that could be said for just about everyone in those [=RPs=]; we were all noobs. Fortunately, IGotBetter at writing before playing with any competent writers in character [=RPs=], and favored [=NRPs=] otherwise. One memorable example was a nation RP that escalated to a point where I could safely say it was more over the top than Warhammer40000. The basic soldiers in my army were giant biomechanical mecha that shot boulders of antimatter, and my "elite soldiers" were serpent gods implanted into mecha capable of destroying planets. Another guy has armies from a billion universes that occasionally created black holes from the sheer mass of soldiers passing through their portals into the galaxy. Yet another guy had space ships the size of solar systems which traveled by creating supermassive black holes. Then again, that isn't so much an old shame as it is hilarious.

This Troper is suddenly very relieved she is not alone in having written several utterly horrendous fanfics from the ages 7-10. Seriously. They were ''bad''. I used to email them to my grandma. Poor grandma. I'm still very, very deeply ridden with guilt for all of the pain I caused her for making her read them. (I'm 99.99% sure she had no idea what show, or movie I was writing about in them, but she'd read them anyway.) I also posted a few on FFN... all have been deleted, of course. Some of them weren't even deleted by me, but by the site admins themselves for having such poor quality. So, considering the quality of a lot of fanfics on FFN, the quality of mine must have been... yeah, that's right. I (at least, hope that I) have ''vastly'' improved since those years.

This troper wrote an absolutely terrible reader review about Godzilla Unleashed. While he still loves the game, the review itself was god awful. This troper has formally requested that it be taken down, but still...

Tropers/PaniPoniDuh: I wrote a crossover between the CthulhuMythos and {{Arthur}}. As if the crappy concept wasn't bad enough, there was the execution. LovecraftLite, to say the least.

My only regret is making an original character... maybe complete originality was never my thing... My first good character was originally a fan character for ''HomestarRunner'' which probably proves this case...

My old shame is not only a fanfiction, but the site that hosted it. For a little while, I played along with their games and delusional belief. But, one day, the truth hit me ''hard''. Now, I'm horrified by what I've done. Fortunately, though, I haven't revisted the place in several years. But like any old shame, I regret it all. Everything.

Big surprise here: every bit of fanfiction I've ever written. Except maybe the ''BattleTanx'' stuff, if only because I only posted one chapter which inexplicably got a few positive comments. Everything else was a horrid mishmash of ''{{Pokemon}}, StarWars'' and ''UnrealTournament''. For that matter, I wish everything I did between late March to the start of December 2004 never happened. And you can probably snip out most of 2007, too. That year sucked.

I actually avert this with some silly four-page story I wrote when I was about 7. It had a couple random people conversing with each other, and giving me a bunch of cool stuff at the end, like old road maps and Wendy's coupons. It's bad, but I think it's hilariously bad.

The early 2000s, however, were an OldShame period for me. I dabbled in the following:

Some furry art, starting with a terrible llama/gryphon hybrid with a secret lair. Later on, there was an otter character whom I initially named @ (yes, his name was an at sign), plus a Pikachu/Jigglypuff named Nag, who was supposed to be an avatar of my sister. Between 2002 and 2005, I had a DeviantART page, but I kept losing focus and felt that I wasn't improving any, so I just closed it (although I still have most of the art).

An attempt at a PowerpuffGirls parody I wanted to submit to ''{{Mad}}''. I even contacted Bob Staake about it, since I knew he worked on the show and had drawn some things for ''Mad''. All I remember is the girls attacking an oversized phone monster, and dialing 10-10-220 on its buttons.

An unfinished ''HarryPotter'' fanfic I wrote when I was about 13. It had me picking up Harry and Hagrid at a Michigan airport, and even shoehorned in my complaint about a poorly-designed freeway exit near said airport. I gave up about three pages in because I didn't know what else to write about.

An unfinished fantasy/horror story that stole an "otterpuss" (otter/octopus) from one of the ''Michigan Chillers'' books.

A compilation of short one-page stories I wrote when I was 13. One was a horrible BetterThanABareBulb DreamWithinADream-within-a-dream about trying to turn on an old computer; one was a rant about grammar; one was a rant on people who pass gas in public; one was a rant about [=Y2K=]; one was an over-the-top parody of the "Ask Ashley" segments from ''AllThat'' replete with SymbolSwearing; one was an exaggeration of the condition of men's vs. women's bathrooms; and the last one was a poorly-scanning poem about BeanieBabies. I had intended to show these to a friend of my mother's who wrote stories, but he never saw them (mercifully).

And on top of that, two narmy stories from my emo period. One was about wandering the remains of a grocery store that had been torn down (once my emo period ended, I tacked on an AllJustADream ending because I thought it was too much of a downer), and the other was an unfinished one about a girl who had been raped.

A comic I drew when I was maybe 11, about a tie-dye-colored cat named Cool Cat, who freaked out after getting water splashed on him. I had intended a "b-side" comic about an ant and a mouse, but it amounted to the ant insulting the mouse. And I had 10 pages left, so I just wrote one word about the comic on each.

Oh, what @/FarseerLolotea came up with in middle school. Let's just say that the fandom was ''ThePiratesOfDarkWater''. The MarySue was redheaded, heterochromic, MultiarmedAndDangerous, and ''not'' introduced as anyone's love interest. And the fic (thankfully) never saw the light of day.

Tropers/BTIsaac's first attempts at writing fiction featured... sigh... an alien Darth Vader expy who single handedly ended World War 2... by THROWING A TANK AT STALIN, lead half the world against the other half in World War 3, completely redrew the political map of Earth, fought other aliens in space and founded his own country which was the size of a university campus. His second attempt was a still bad (but surprisingly better thought out) reimagining of {{Starcraft}}. The third attempt was a fantasy-scifi epic, which wasn't really dumped, but is currently on hold due to the original concept being basically a HarryPotter - LordOfTheRings mockup.

That's not even mentioning my first online work which was a terribly drawn ELGoonishShive fancomic. And for even more recent examples, there's the fists two chapters of {{Webcomic/TheFAN}} which have really bad art and writing.

He also had a craptastic diary filled with emotastic ramblings, which is hopefully incinerated or rotted away at the bottom of the city dump by now. Too bad though. The book itself was a pretty nice looking HarryPotter diary. It deserved a better fate - and a better owner.

Continuing my long list of failures I'd rather not remember, I actually threw out two series of very badly drawn sketches I drew over the course of three years, That's a whole lot of paper wasted, but I needed the space.

I am writing a ''PokemonMysteryDungeon'' fanfic called ''The Book of Thunder''. Before you ask, that isn't the OldShame... not that ''version'', anyway. The story is actually a huge overhaul of a fic I thought up one night out of boredom. What were its flaws? Let's see...no character descriptions, American character with an generic Asian name, excessive AuthorAppeal, etc. I didn't even get past the second chapter before I decided to start over. This original version was never typed nor posted, nor will I ever do so.

This troper used to make video game reviews on various Lego video games (No, not those!). The problem is they went completely unscripted and uncut, leading to some very bad slips and stutters. I was not getting much love from them at all, to the point where I deleted them. I still get people telling me to put them back up, but if anyone brings it up, I change subjects as quick as I can because I just don't want to remember them.

Several years ago, I used to RP a lot on TheCaveOfDragonflies forums. Now, even thinking about it (specifically, all the RP's that I drove OffTheRails for no real reason) makes me cringe. Thankfully, my writing skills and common sense have both improved a lot, but it still really bothers me for some reason.

This troper can't bring himself to think about '''any''' fanfiction written between 2001 and 2006, the latter year being the one where I actually started getting my own ideas. From incredibly lame writing, to borrowing too heavily from fanfics which inspired me (even if I was considerably younger at the time, and not really aware of the fact that it'd be considered borderline if not direct {{plagiarism}}), I think...gah, I damn well hope I'm the only person who even remembers they ever existed. The things I'd give to be able to go back in time and retcon my life, so none of those were ever written...

Everything this troper does eventually becomes this. My first written fanfiction was a Super Smash Bros. High School AU, and was later so ashamed by it that I deleted every trace of it. Another example was this personal fic she and her mom had. It featured what ever I felt like inserting, had continuity problems, several Sues (Saya, a GodModeSue, Princess Zelda became a JerkSue, and her daughter Hitan followed suit), and overdone plots, but I loved it. Now, I get a headache just thinking about it.

This troper used to write ''horrible'' original fiction in third to seventh grade. The earlier stuff was a dreadfully failed attempt to write epic military sci-fi with "scientific correctness" (the results of a ten-year-old reading five college-level astrophysics books in a week and convincing himself he understood it perfectly); NonLethalWarfare was in full effect. The later stuff suffered from an odd case of GoshDarnItToHeck: I would only say "damn", "hell", "crap", etc... but characters used those swears ALL THE TIME. Dialogue and characterization was rotten as well, with a plot ''stuffed'' with {{Hand Wave}}s. Some of the worse transgressions are:

"Virvra", third grade: a twenty-page SF story I wrote in third grade. Plot: Orphaned KidHero finds a bunch of stuff in a dumpster and uses ''model rocket engines and plywood'' to build an '''intergalactic''' rocket. After flying 50,000 light years in one day, using ''black powder'' propulsion in a non-pressurized craft, he lands on a planet called Virvra (bear in mind that his ship's made of ''wood''). There, he meets some random HumanAliens, who put him on a vehicle and fight a battle against some other HumanAliens. Then a random girl from the enemy side defects to the kid's side for no reason and everyone lives happily ever after.

"The Xena Story", fourth grade (no relation to XenaWarriorPrincess): A GodModeSue "female" robot teams up with a weird "male" robot, a human, and some kind of fairy. They live on the dwarf planet Eris (whose widely accepted temperature is somewhere in the -300 degrees Fahrenheit). They go on a quest to find the "Darkstone Elixir" which will cure an ill-explained disease. When they get back, the evil guy has already taken over the planet. Five years later, they fight a CurbStompBattle against him and win. The end.

"Attack on Banksas" and "An Escape Is Made", sixth grade: Two poorly-written stories. An Escape Is Made starts off with three characters getting captured by TheEmpire and locked up in prison, whereupon they escape with ''another'' AssPull and fight an anticlimactic battle. In "Attack on Banksas", a Japanese girl in a mercenary force tries to kill them, but undergoes yet another ill-explained defection. Meanwhile, a random other viewpoint character who wasn't introduced until late and who makes very little sense in the first place meets his long-lost uncle in a supreme triumph of bad writing.

Operation Tidus, seventh grade: Averts NonLethalWarfare finally and is set on Earth in 2368. So long and convoluted that it doesn't bear explanation, but it involves ridiculous SchizoTech (think guys fighting a battle with swords and plasma guns), flat characters, ''many'' a TakeThat against Britain and the United States (why, I don't even know...), a spectacular AssPull that still doesn't answer all the questions (seriously? all nuclear weapons everywhere were banned and uranium is impossible to get ahold of? in the middle of a global war?), and a random and completely non-funny sequence that was presumably intended for comedic effect.

The first two only saw my parents and me, but the last three regrettably were shown to quite a few people before they were sequestered forever in computers/drawers. My current writing's a lot better, though.

This troper had a thing for a crack Naruto pairing long ago and went about making fanfiction of it. At first it was fun, but back then I couldn't form a plot to save my life and ended up creating plot holes within plot holes. I soon lost my drive for my projects and ended up moving to another fandom to try and ease my boredom with Naruto. Long story short, I discovered I had much more fun then I ever recalled having writing for the new fandom. Ideas were fresh and planned out, my style became more polished and I even learned to stop being a review-whore...somewhat. Sadly, all my interest in Naruto is gone and I have no desire to go back and finish anything. While I sometimes look fondly over my old work, there are many things about them I'm not proud of. Example: I wrote the most descriptive lemon I could. It was uncalled for and looking back, I realize I only did it for reviews. That being said, I dare not delete them because they still have their followers who have...shall we say questionable sanity? My greatest fear is if I were to delete them, said followers would hunt me down and expose what I used to write to my current fandom. The only reason I care is because I've made friends in the fandom and I shutter to think of what they would think. Thus, explains my OldShame.

This troper has trouble looking at anything from her past for this reason. Many of my original OCs were Mary-Sues (because I'm the ultimate perfectionist), the heads were much too big and too round in my original drawings, and things in original fiction made no sense. I can't even go through my blog anymore, because of how I used to write when I was younger, and what I used to talk about.

This Troper in middle school was obsessed with the Emo Subculture, cue 3 years of buying all black, watching horror movies, and acting like a brat, Now I am just going with anything girly girl, basket case, hipster, etc.

I recently found a few old notebooks from when I was 6-8. They're full of old shame, but the worst has to be a fanfiction involving characters from the SuperMarioBrothers series and, of all people, Billie Joe Armstrong, whose name was misspelled. It was about Peach running away with Luigi and the two of them forming a {{Nakama}} with Billie Joe Armstrong. Mario becomes a ButtMonkey, but eventually joins the {{Nakama}}... or something. I didn't really understand that part of the story.
