When this troper drives or goes on public transit he always wonder why the drive is so slow, and wonders if he/driver could use the nitro. This troper has a few: she is suffering an unusual case of this: thanks to her time playing MOTHER3, if ever I hear a "TCHING!!" noise, ''I freak the hell out.'' Why? That's the noise ''when the Ultimate Chimera has spotted you.'' What makes it worse is that something in my house was making that noise for a couple of days...

Left4Dead also seems to be great for this - and it effects multiple people. I've found myself looking at holes in a building's roof, old warehouses, open parks, and silently thinking, "There is going to be a horde ''any second'' now." And upon seeing a machete, an axe or guitars (amongst other things), thinking, "Hey, awesome, a melee weapon!" And don't even get me started on seeing thin girls with long hair...

Whenever this troper receives a text message, his phone screams like a Hunter. For phonecalls, it's the Tank theme from the Dark Carnival finale. Scares the bejesus out of all those in the vicinity, but this troper won't miss any calls or texts.

This troper constantly tries to look at the minimap in the upper right corner. Or even worse, wonders if the Toshiba walking humanoid robot uses hoverballs and Keep Upright.

On the very first day I got Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I played for hours. Then I finally had to go to sleep, anticipating more gameplay tomorrow. Sleep didn't come. Upon purchasing KingdomHearts, this troper played it for a few hours until she went to bed, didn't pick it up the next day, and played it for two hours before bedtime the day after. I've been hooked ever since. My file for Re: Chain of Memories amounts to four solid days of gameplay over all, and that's ''without'' going through the Riku storyline. The size of the screen also tends to get bigger the longer it goes on.)

Same for this troper, who hasn't played Tetris for over two years but still keeps playing it in her own mind. There Are whole periods where I can't fall asleep because I'm losing at tetris. I can't air guitar anymore. I air Guitar Hero. I don't do giant strums, I don't slide note, I click down with my thumb and press imaginary buttons. And I can't stop. I can't bring myself to do old school air guitar, because the Guitar Hero moves feel so much more natural.

''RockBand'' triples the possible effects. Drummers can expect to air-drum a lot, and this troper can be spotted tracing out the vocal parts to songs on his iPod in the air in front of him.

Real drummers do the exact same thing. This troper is still amazed by watching his drummer friend air drum to songs on the radio, and knowing that if he were behind his kit he could duplicate the drum track perfectly. This includes songs he's never heard before.

Well, the drum parts of most songs are, in large part, one measure repeated over and over. Once you listen for ten seconds you know what to expect for at least the next minute or so.

This is in great effect on me, as I started playing guitar hero, rock band, real guitar, and real drums, all in rapid succession. I picture the guitar hero parts for songs I hear, and for SONGS THAT I MAKE. Also, I constantly drum either with the drum part or accenting off the drum part in all songs I hear. I am crazy. Also, other people call them skittles? I definitely thought of that while I was drunk.

On the positive side of all this: Playing these games allows you to open up your awareness of the different parts of songs, parts you've probably never paid attention to before. For example, you might take a song you've known for decades and listen to it with new ears, picking up on the bass guitar part that previously was undifferentiated background noise. Or you start to pick out which drum beats are snare, tom, bass, hi-hat, and cymbal. Given the way this stuff enhances your sensory experience, I'll bet Leonardo da Vinci would have loved rhythm games.

Criticize Final Fantasy XIII all you damned well like. You're entitled to your opinion. I was even a disbeliever for quite some time. Then I found myself humming the music. You realize the sunlight is coming through your window and you've been up the entire night enjoying this tale.

After a particularly long game of Civ Revolutions, this troper ate dinner and could not reach the ketchup. My mind rationalized this not by thinking the ketchup is too far for me to reach, but that it must take two turns to get to the ketchup.

Those old Game Boys could really last with good batteries, apparently...

Surge in my first playthrough of Yellow (A thunderstorm rolling in, in real life, as that battle took place, which made it increadibly epic) on up to my Gyarados getting the Pokérus while doing some pre-E4 training in Platinum. That dream alone had me pumped up when I got up the next day; ready to do the impossible and see the invisible. Row-row fight da power!

This troper keeps expecting to see Pokemon pop up in places where the Pokedex says they live. Example - there's an industrial estate near where I live, and I ''swear'' I've seen a Weezing or two floating around there.

What about Pokemon Puzzle Challenge on the GBC? This troper can't play it at all during the day without seeing it when he goes to bed at night. I even dreamed about it several times. (Although that was the N64 version. Weird since I never had an N64.)

This troper runs some of them on emulator (because purchasing the 1st-3rd generation games at this stage would a) have issues with internal battery, and b) none of the cash would go anywhere near Gamefreak anyway; he did play some of them, his sister owns Crystal version, but he didn't go hyper-over-the-top until he was nearly 20). Being a heretic, he likes to mute the sound and play his MP3 collection over it. Not only did this eat a bare minimum of four hours a day, but he also finds it impossible to hear MidnightOil's ''King of the Mountain'' without thinking of how it was playing while pwning Giovanni in Leafgreen, and automatically associates ''Break My Stride'' by whoever the hell it's by with the Tate/Liza fight in Emerald. (Pleasantly, this also created some crowning moments of awesome - there's nothing quite like your Absol taking down that last Lunatone to the sound of "Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride, nobody gonna slow me down...")

He did it in three days (well, up until the Battle Frontier that is) and told me that while he was playing it, he felt that he was actually ''in the game itself'', and that for days afterward, he kept on expecting to see Pokeballs on the ground and for wild Pokemon to jump at him in our garden...

JustCause 2 , if you start thinking about chaos point when looking for crane, celltower and water tower, think twice.

This Troper and his friends were all sitting around in the backyard not that long ago after an hour or so of ''JustCause'' 2. A plane flew low overhead and this troper reflexively went to grapple on. What's more, after regaining his senses and turning back to his friends, he saw them all staring at the palne and idly flexing their fingers. No bonus points for guessing what they were thinking.

It ain't just planes. After serious [=JC2=] sessions, @/{{Fallingwater}} always finds himself actually thinking about balconies, roofs and other very non-accessible places as perfectly practical routes when walking around. It takes a moment for the "duh" factor to settle in. Then comes the desire of actually having a grappler...

Maxis' Sim games are all prone to this, especially TheSims and its sequel.

This troper has found herself, after many hours of gameplay, sizing up people on the street or television, thinking "I have that skirt/top/hairstyle on the Sims... I could create you." It was particularly painful watching [=DVDs=] of Angel when Cordelia got the short highlighted hair, identical to a style that actually comes with the Sims 2 base game.

This Troper was quite spooked one day when, while she was riding on the bus, a young man sat down next to her, who looked EXACTLY like a Sim she had created a few days ago. Same hairstyle, same eye color/face shape/features.... She tried very hard not to stare.

This troper was always pretty ambivalent about actually playing ''TheSims'' - mostly he just built houses and, with expansion packs, bars, restaurants and holiday resorts. As a result, it was rare for him to go to a place without thinking about how he would create it in the game.

This troper played The Sims 1 several years ago. She still can't look at those advertisements for online games that let you furnish a house for your character without the furniture reminding her of stuff in The Sims.

You know those stock sounds you hear in cartoons, on shows like Funniest Home Videos, and on the TV (on the cartoons channel) in The Sims? This troper had the cartoon sound cycle play in her head every time she heard one of the stock sounds used on a totally unrelated TV show. Rather like hearing a line from a catchy song and getting it stuck in your head.

After playing too much Sims 2 (maybe... um... around eight hours worth...), this troper had a dream where she was, unsurprisingly, playing the Sims. However, stuff kept going wrong, leading me to stop without saving. Every time I did that in the dream, I'd wake up. Similarily, after going on a custom content binge, my dreams involved me surfing the web for custom content. Every time I downloaded a new one, I'd wake up. Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well those two nights.

Well before that, the ''SimCity'' series had this troper looking at his hometown and mentally subdividing it into zones.

This troper got Simcity 2000 the day it came out. This troper went to bed every night for the next week seeing buildings when he closed his eyes.

''Simcity 3000 Unlimited/World Edition'' displays a little clock - probably a developmental feature that Maxis decided to leave - that displays the current time so you can measure your gameplay time.

This happened to Da_Nuke when he finally mastered ''SimCity 4''. For a long while, he could ''never'' stop thinking of the fabulous, bustling Trondheim and its suburbs Lillehammer, Sarpsborg, Svolvær and Tromsø. Right now, he's caught up in building the mass transit utopia of Jesenice, Murska Sobota, Ptuj, Pragersko and Trbovlje.

Don't forget ''SimTower.'' Optimizing offices, condominiums, and fast food joints can be VERY habit-forming.

''SimTower'' caused a bizarre effect on Da_Nuke. Just like towers have rankings from 1-star to 5-stars to TOWER, he figured out a ranking for human settlements based on population and services. During his inner ramblings while showering, he expanded it into 1-star to 11-star to GLOBAL CITY. A 7-star city, for example, needs 100,000 people, highway, railroad or domestic airport access, and public transportation. Guadalajara, Mexico, his hometown, is a 10-star city: more than 3 million people, international airport, convention center, lots of commercial services and technological companies, and it's one of the local educational hubs.

I would like to see this scale.

This troper isn't as bad as some of the people on this page, but, when tired and having played The Sims 2 all night, he got a little confused. I woke up from my friend talking to his dad over the phone, trying to give him directions via [=MapQuest=] or something, and I was laying on my stomach on a bed in his room (people stay over so often that he has two beds). For the life of me, I could ''not'' figure out what interaction allowed me to sleep on my stomach.

Yet another Troper was once reading a book about someone who wanted a male heir, and found herself thinking, "Why didn't he exit without saving and reload to get the gender he wanted?" After that, I scaled back on the Sims considerably.

The Sims 2 has taken over this tropers life. So much that I am constantly looking around at houses and wondering if I could build it in the sims. And it gets to the stage where I create a load of sims, move them into a shit house, get a few fire blasters and then laughing hysterically when they burn to death.

Occasionally, I find myself caring for some sims, and get incredably pissed off when they die. >:@

When I play too much Sims, I end up imagining a bladder or hunger bar that's going down whenever I'm hungry or need the toilet. And sometimes it takes me a minute to work out that I have to actually interact with things rather than clicking on them....

''GTA 3'' has caused this troper and many of his friends to start classifying cars by their GTA equivalent and debate whether it was worth "abandoning" our car to steal theirs.

This troper worked with a girl who played GTA 3 in isolation to the point that she used to see cars on the road and think that she needed to steal it to drop off at the docks.

Many players report that after particularly long gaming sessions, the outside world begins to look as if it were rendered in the game engine.

This troper is a pedestrian, but occasionally thinks "I could drag him out of that car and take off up the road here..."

And never mind the wanton crime and violence; in the later games, this troper has found himself driving around aimlessly for hours on end or sitting in a parked car simply so that ''he could listen to all of the talk-shows on the radio stations''. Couple in an addiction to eighties pop music and ''both'' ViceCity games, and he's in for the duration.

''Any time'' @/{{ROBRAM89}} hears a song from the original Vice City on the radio, he immediately pictures himself driving around the city in the rain in a red Cheetah with the radio on. No guns, no damn cops...you can literally kill time just driving around town without getting bored. Damn, now I want to play it again...

This troper has earned one ticket by taking a drive after playing GTA:SA, and taking a real-life shortcut across someone's yard. This troper now makes sure to quit playing GTA at least an hour before actually driving.

After getting so immersed in GTA:SA that she stayed up several nights playing it, this troper's parents took her away on holiday, and, while in the car, driving out of the city, anytime she saw purple graffiti, this troper had the instinctive reaction of, "Oh shit! I have to tag over that..."

This British troper is thankfully unable to drive, but has often fought the urge to yell at the bus driver for being on the wrong side of the road after too much time playing ''GTA''.

This troper played GTA for the first time the other day. On his way home, he spotted a woman walking on the pavement. His mind forced her into a whore outfit and surrounded her with those little green target arrows. Luckily he was a passenger and not a driver... He doesn't think he should play it again.

This troper has on more than one occasion been tempted to jump out of his own car and steal a nicer one, a la ''GrandTheftAuto''.

Along these lines @/BlackWolfe once found himself veering towards a parked police car to check if it was locked because walking was taking too long.

Conclusion: JackThompson was right. ''GTA'' inspires people to commit crimes.

Play ''{{Portal}}'' and you'll find yourself trying to figure out how to portal yourself on top of buildings using the terrain around you as you walk from one place to another.

Or imagining how awesome having a portal gun would be, or to be more specific, all the uses you could find for it. "Goodbye, traffic jams!"

Also you'll never look the same way at mirrors.

This Troper's thoughts after paying in shop: Drop what? Basket. Loot basket. Take out what? a - a bread, b - a plastic bag. Apply plastic bag. Put in what? AND. SO. FUCKING. ON.

This troper has found that ''AssassinsCreed'' has caused him to "hide" by walking slowly and putting his face in his hands. He also gets jumpy when he hears a beeping sound, as he thinks the guards have spotted him.

TruthInTelevision, this troper once had a job working as an HVAC tech in a high rise, that required entering suites after hours. Every so often he would set off a security alarm that a tenant had retrofitted without telling building management. Beep, beep, beep, beep...

If you want to get the achievements in the Xbox 360 version, try not to leave the vantage point one for last. After a few hours of exploring the world and climbing the highest towers, for a few weeks This Troper, whenever he saw a tower or similar stony building, kept catching himself thinking "Hmm, now how am I going to get to that vantage point? Let's see...there's a string of rocks to climb ''there'', then a metal grate ''there''..."

That's basically how the mind of a traceur works, 24/7.

Finish Assassin's Creed 2, go to Italy 4 months later... Not good.

This troper recently started commuting to a city with tonnes of old architecture, and old churches and museums and the like... and it drove her nuts at first because whenever she spotted a familiar-looking feature of architecture on a building, her brain automatically started planning how to utilise it in order to scale the building. It was only when someone asked her why she was grinning distractedly at a brick wall did she realise what she was doing... and also just how much Ubisoft Did Do The Research to make the buildings in Assassin's Creed as realistic as possible. With this in mind, this troper seriously pities the troper above who visited Italy, and sincerely hopes they did not lose their sanity in the process, though it would be forgivable if they have.

Games in the {{Legend of Zelda}} series may lead to spontaneous urges to chop plants in search of gems and items.

And, for those of us of particularly masochistic nature, hit chicken.

After spending a week looking for heart pieces, this troper kept wanting to climb onto the roofs of buildings.

This troper finds herself humming and wistling varius tunes from the game, including the main theme, Saria's Song, and pretty much anything from {{OoT}}, even long after she defeated Ganon.

Playing too much ''Minish Cap'' in one sitting may lead to you hallucinating that "This Guy Has A Kinstone To Fuse" speech bubbles are appearing over the heads of people in your life...webcomics you're reading...and the occasional word on a trope page.

You know that cute little chime that sounds in ''Twilight Princess'' when Link summons Midna? Someone in this Troper's Introduction To Philosophy class used that chime as the alarm on their cell phone - driving the Troper nearly out of her mind because she recognized the sound and couldn't identify the source. She would sometimes glance wildly about the room, as though expecting Midna to materialize somewhere.

Play ''OsuTatakaeOuendan'' or ''EliteBeatAgents'' for too long and you may begin to see beat patterns appear on the inside of your eyelids. This is perfectly normal, as is beat patterns and/or stories to go along with them spontaneously forming in your head when you hear music.

Same here, except it was the ''Stepmania/Frets on Fire'' analogue to those games, ''osu!'', and I also move to the rhythm of songs in it.

After playing Elite Beat Agents too much, when I played ''Sonic Rush'', I thought I should tap the buttons in the Special Zone rhthymically. Also, my rhythm has improved considerably.

This troper once began a manual labour task by thinking about it as "helping the motherland" and proceeding to hum the Soviet anthem after one long Hearts of Iron 2 session

This troper starts seeing the Ouendan barge into my classroom when I'm taking my quiz, to cheer me on. It's extended to studying--and I imagine my own music now!

Playing ''PrinceOfPersia'' for too long has been known to make people try running up walls and doing elaborate backflips while looking for things to smash and find the magical sand in order to rewind your mistakes. This rarely goes over well.

As a matter of fact, when this troper went into a multi-story car park and saw a single freestanding beam, he automatically scanned the walls opposing it to find out where he could wallrun-backflip to.

Bioware games will have you wondering about how to start romances with the [=NPCs=] you know, and how many violent/nonviolent solutions to any situation there are... It's also one of the few RPG makers that can consistently make you wonder what being a different gender would be like, and what bonuses you could net.

BaldursGate and NWN also fully into the 'playing while asleep' territory if you get into them enough. Many times when standing still this troper's brain has decided to make him feel like he's switched to a 3rd person view and the room is slowly spinning in circlers. Plus, for BaldursGate, compulsively trying to hit Alt or Control when looking for something. WHY WONT IT LIGHT UP-oh right.

This troper went around for weeks after playing ''KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'' thinking of finishing mundane tasks as "completing quests."

In both Daggerfall and Morrowind, this troper maxed acrobatics fairy early and spent the many remaining hours bounding through the air and roofhopping wherever possible. After enough time of this, I would get that leaping and whooshing feeling constantly, while walking through my home, while drifting to sleep, in my dreams, etc. Oddly this is how flying in my dreams has always turned out.

This troper heard about someone who, upon hearing a bird, tried to draw his sword in the real world.

Thanks to Oblivion, it's so easy to find one's mind wandering off as they stare out the car window at plants lining the road, wondering if it'd be worth backtracking to pick every little flower for alchemy purposes. And let's not start on expecting to find Nirnroot at water sourced.

Speaking of Oblivion, This Troper would wake up to the sounds of birds in the morning and contemplate killing them all with the console.

''KatamariDamacy'' has been known to cause this. Roll up one too many stars, and you'll start naturally gravitating towards anything smaller than you.

Or just fantasizing about giant clusters of stuff ravaging the 'burbs around you. Or wishing you had one to send ahead of you on the freeway and clear out all that nasty traffic.

This Troper was quite terrified when they realized that their life was being narrated by the King of the Cosmos. And as soon as he realized this, the King got angry and started using the eye lasers. Truly one cannot escape this game.

Once after playing ''{{Okami}}'' for several hours straight, this troper was out with her friends and spotted a tree with no leaves on it. She then drew a circle in the air with her finger and frowned when the tree didn't burst into bloom. At this point her friends dragged her away and determined that she seriously needed sleep.

I always feel like blooming trees in winter, now.

Same here. This Troper also, as a joke, drew a circle in the sky, seeing that ther were clouds covering the sun. The disturbing this is, a mintue or so later, ''the sun actually came out''.....a little bit. Talk about dumb luck.

While This Troper was playing Pokemon Pearl, she came across a trap in the Underground that put leaves on her screen. The instructions said "Blow them away!". After several failed attempts at blowing them away by drawing loops on the touch screen to summon divine wind, she realized that she was supposed to ''blow into the microphone''. Too many hours of Okami...

After playing ''SuperSmashBros Brawl'', this editor's mind constantly drifts towards thinking up new characters for the franchise (following the requirements Sakurai had for any third-party characters, natch) and what their moves/associated items and Assist Trophies would be, ''especially'' their Final Smashes.

Did the same thing for a while, only I didn't obey the requirements. I tried to make Garfield and Odie work as a character. Yeah, weird.

To many, the game had this effect on them since the ''initial announcement''. Without the game itself, it was naturally centered on forum discussions about what should and what shouldn't be in the game. Not that the game coming out has stopped this.

This troper played the fabulous puzzle game Meteos so much, that for a while whenever he looked at someone's face he pictured sliding the nose in between the eyes and blasting the facial features off into outer space. Seriously.

This troper and his roommate usually refer to any instance of playing a game and then continuing to see it when staring at the ceiling/with eyes closed/etc. as "Meteos Vision," due to Meteos' remarkable ability to cause this after only playing for about five minutes.

This troper played Dead Rising for so long when he first bought it, that he instinctively avoided walking close to people, especially small groups of people, in the mall the next day. Accompanied by the occasional flinch away from people who looked like they were initiating the "zombie lunge".

The last time this troper took a picture, I caught myself wondering why I didn't get any PP for it.

This Troper once, after a 6 hour marathon Halo CE (Custom Edition) on Coldsnap (a huge map) had to go drive to the vets to pick up a cat. I looked around paranoidly for snipers and jets. And once I picket up the cat, I imagined that I had the flag and needed to get home ASAP.

On a more benign note, the same troper sometimes gets this after doing a lot of work for his Basic Technical Drawing class which entails doing things in AutoCAD. I start seeing things in lines, polylines, circles, and splines.

(Same Troper) Non-electronic example: After the Virginia Tech shooting, I always evaluate every place I am in tactically. This is so that I have the best chance of surviving a gun wielding maniac and can potentially fire back on them if I have to.

(Same Troper) If I ski a lot, then I begin to see everything in terms of fall lines and inclines.

''MassEffect''. @/{{Prioris}} suffered a horrid case of "sniper rifle vision" on a recent hunting trip, as the rifle she had borrowed sported an antiquated, German-style scope with a three-point reticle. She found herself wondering on several occasions why the scope didn't provide a distance-to-target readout, and whether said rifle could be equipped with Combat Optics and a Kinetic Coil instead.

I recently started playing MassEffect2, but I have to make sure I don't play it at night. The last time I tried, I saw Husks coming towards me every time I closed my eyes in bed. *shudders*

This troper played Mass Effect for several days. For weeks after that, I kept looking at bits of scenery and thinking 'okay, that'll make good cover, and i can shoot anyone who comes out over there' until I snapped out of it.

Not a video game, but when I was in the middle of a three-day archive binge of Melonpool, I began expecting mundane routines (putting away dishes, feeding the dog, etc.) to have punchlines.

This troper found himself checking the arms and heads of everyone around him for red bands (signalling that they're in the game) during a game of Humans vs. Zombies.

This troper had been playing BioShock quite a bit, and while driving through a department store parking lot, noticed signs saying, "Warning! Security Cameras in Use!" He immediately began thinking to himself, "Crap! What plasmids do I have loaded? Do I still have Hacker's Delight on?"

THIS troper had been playing SystemShock 2, and while walking down the street one day noticed a security camera. There was a moment of panic and a reflexive reach for a pistol before the troper remembered that this was not a space ship and there ''was'' no pistol.

This troper started expecting reticules to come up when looking at objects.

This troper has an old tape recorder sitting in the corner of her living room on an old speaker. For several days after gunning through BioShock, she walked over to that tape recorder automatically when leaving the room while checking over her shoulders for splicers.

Play through ''Gears of War'', then try and walk down a street without evaluating the cover provided by benches, bins etc. I think I can make it from behind this billboard to the bus stop if I sprint...

This troper has had in happen to him in general due to shooters. I now conclude my school isn't an exactly good place to be in a warzone, the hallways are too open. I also love to 'take cover' when no one's looking. Or when my little brother's looking, as we both like shooters, of which he even more, and is better at them.

This editor played through ''CommandAndConquer: Red Alert 2'' at least 5 times, all told. When I wasn't playing, I was trying to figure out how the Chrono Trooper works, and if he meant "Never existed" literally or figuratively.

After playing Star Wars Battlefront for an eon and a half, this troper started evaluating all his surroundings, including his home, school, and church, wondering where to put command posts if it were in the game.

Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle League/Puzzle League DS. A thousand names, one addiction. This troper has reportedly made reaction chains so huge the computer didn't bother counting anymore (and displayed a question mark instead) repeteadly, completed every objective and puzzle said games had to offer him, and for a while suffered of a strange mental illness that caused him to instinctively want to regroup the people in front of him in class in groups of three by shirt colors.

Ace Attorney is one addictive mother. This troper is frankly shocked it hasn't come up before--she found herself staying up until insane hours of the morning, zipping through the cases to find out what happens, then replaying them slowly, examining everything and presenting random evidence to everyone just to get every possible response. And then reflexively yelling "OBJECTION!" in the middle of a real-life argument. Embarrassing, but oddly satisfying.

Hell, I still have a tendency to think in "evidence" when conversing with people, just because apparently something isn't allowed to happen without some kind of physical proof.

When talking to people I start to think of it in terms of the "screen by screen" way that the game presents it... and have, in fact, started saying "Take That!", "Gotcha!", "Objection!" and "Hold it!" in real day life...

After playing it, I started to almost hear the blip-blip-blip!-sound when people were talking to me.

Objecting isn't so much a problem for @/{{Arruruerie}} as mimicking the sprite animations of the characters is. I've found myself taking cocky little bows, tossing my hair, squeezing at the air with one hand, striking several sideways-focused poses, and snapping my fingers in midair while speaking. And that's just for starters.

I still hear the noises of the robots from {{Descent}} in the darkness...

This is a possible example of NightmareFuel.

After a few weeks of [=KoL=] (Kingdom of Loathing) this troper found himself experiencing a impossible to resist urge to 'improve' every food he ate to get more turns out of it, and assigning stats to clothing and accessories. Improve Ramen with kipper! Striped Tube Top- + 10% Moxie! Equip iPod for Disco Bandit! Oooooh, is that an ultra-rare item Drop? *twitch*

Only 10% for a Striped Tube To? I'd give it at least +15%. Oh, and a touch of 'Chance to Stun opponent'. But yeah. I've been using quotes from KoL around my friends who have no clue what I'm talking about.

This troper went through a KoL phase. To this day, when he gets tired, he sees the little [eat] [use] [sleep] links around any item he looks at. He swears he saw a [kill] once.

@/{{Zeke}}'s first love is MegaMan, but {{Metroid}} and {{LegendOfZelda}} games are the ones that really suck his time. He spent something like 24 hours straight with ''Metroid Prime'' at one point in his first playthrough. Between this and ''Ocarina of Time'', he's developed a habit of noticing narrow ledges and such in RealLife and thinking "I bet I could stand on that."

''KingdomHearts 2''. I sometimes imagine I can solve any problem just by holding out my hand, and the keyblade will materialize and I can smite my problem.

I keep seeing green triangles around objects I need to do something with.

@/ThinksTooMuch is not quite sure if this qualifies, but I got into Kingdom Hearts AMVs. (And yes, those things are a large part of why I play the game at all. The story's incredibly cute, okay?) I very frequently start creating said videos in my head when I hear a song - even one that does not in any way relate to the plot of the game. And if I've actually made a video to the song? Very often the video will play itself, clip by clip, very precisely, in front of my eyes no matter what the circumstances.

I'm really glad to know I'm not the only one who does this. I spent many long car rides listening to music and planning [=AMVs=] I knew I'd never even get around to making.

Any game with quicksaves, Abe's Exodus in this troper's case, can lead to the urge to quicksave before any risky activity in real life.

Also any game with time rewinding abilities. This troper has attempted to reverse time after playing ''{{Braid}}'' for long periods.

Not limited to videogames. After spending all day playing chess (face-to-face, even!), this troper cannot stop seeing chess combinations and even dreams about them.

I thought I was alone!

This troper once had this effect with Microsoft ''Solitaire'', possibly the least cool example possible. After one long session I looked at my family sat on the sofa and found myself thinking "brother over mother over father", mentally moving them into position... But then I've also had a similar experience just from doing too much maths. Everything looked like an equation!

This troper has you beat. After 2500+ games of Minesweeper, you begin to ''dream'' about all the various little patterns and ways to beat it on Expert, and then you begin to find patterns in everything that looks like a grid.

This troper concurrs. He never really liked Minesweeper...until, one day, he figured out the logic parts of it. He did not leave his laptop for ''hours.'' Also, the ceiling of his room is made up of square tiles...must...click...squares...BOOM!

Oh, and don't tell me you weren't trying to mimic Snake's sneak-walk after playing MetalGearSolid for the first time...

This reminds me that, while @/{{igordebraga}} was playing MetalGearSolid, he accidentally missed a class. The result: hiding, Solid Snake style, from the school coordinator.

This troper also challenges anyone to deny that they've ever flattened themselves against a wall or considered the strategic possibilities of a cardboard box.

Cardboard boxes really are good disguises. I've won games of hide and seek, as well as just hid from people with them.

This troper successfully managed to evade a maths teacher by knocking on the wall and running around him when he came to investigate the noise.

After playing Metal Gear Solid 3 for only a few hours, @/NautilusPQ is always on the lookout for wildlife. And yes, she wonders how tasty it would be.

IT'S A CAVE DEMON!

This Troper often finds himself imitating the "!"-sound and Snake's voice.

This troper has a brother who uses the CODEC ringer as his cell phone ringer, and the alert noise as his text message ringer. Perfect for when he gets a text in the middle of class.

The Tetris Effect, huh... This troper doesn't play MetalGear, only watch videos of it on Youtube, but it's got me repeating the last few words of whatever someone says.

This troper got addicted to the exploration in TheLegendOfZelda and other games so he has found himself spending long hours walking around downtown and nearby parks seeing where all the streets and paths lead. So, incredibly, this actually got him outside. Unfortunately, he has gotten lost repeatedly, and almost broken a couple laws, since no-trespassing signs and abandoned buildings are where one would expect to find heart pieces.

This troper, having spent most of the last month at TV Tropes, tends to think in the third person.

This troper has to catch herself to avoid referring to herself as "this troper" in other settings.

This troper thought he was the only one! He thinks of himself as "this troper" (often typing it out at the beginning of IM conversations) and has to resist the urge to introduce himself as either "this troper" or his online pseudonym, "Duelist".

On YouTube, when commenting, I have narrowly escaped both starting out with "This Troper" and trying to use quote marks to get italics. I talk in said italics, so it's only a matter of time before I slip up.

He writes more or less like SJ Perelman constantly, and found his thought processes severely affected just from reading the ''sample chapter'' of ''Darkly Dreaming Dexter''. He was worried that it would be even worse upon getting the book, and he was right; he read it over a month ago and still keeps thinking of himself as "not human", even though he knows perfectly well he's just PainfullyShy. This also means that his writing often comes out a strange blend of Dexter and Mr. Perelman. It works surprisingly well.

This troper knows the feeling. When she was younger she could immitate all the speach patterns of the animals in Redwall. And then I found out what Shakespeare does to my speach and writing... I tend to speak/write in iambic patterns a good two weeks after reading Shakespeare...

This troper can attest that it's not only pop culture that can get you. Despite normally having an amazingly distinct personality, I will sometimes catch himself ''thinking'' with a British accent ''for absolutely no discernible reason''. And it can last for ''weeks''. Even after I caught myself. It's like a self-constructed accent EarWorm. What makes this even weirder though is that when I'm been in this state for awhile I may actually start affecting the accent in speech. People I'm meeting for the first time have occasionally ask me if I'm British. My parents are from Chicago and NYC, I was born in Chicago, I was raised and live in L.A., and I have never been overseas.

Years ago when UltimaOnline's ecology was seriously screwed up and birds were rare this troper found himself upon seeing real birds thinking "Feathers! KILL IT!". Or plotting to skin roadkill for hides and ribs.

Anyone who has ever achieved a four-star Agility rating in ''{{Crackdown}}'' will start looking at buildings and wondering the best way to ''parkour'' their way up to the roof, and whether or not they could jump from one rooftop to the other. After getting a Wii and finding out about its reverse compatibility, this trope made the mistake of getting ''VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor'' and ''EternalDarkness: Sanity's Requiem'' at the same time. After playing them interchangeably for a couple of days straight, the resulting dreams does not bear mentioning (I'm not sure who was most scarred by the events that transpired - Mario or Cthulu). For days afterwards, I found myself possessed by a strange urge to GoombaStomp on a CosmicHorror... good thing I didn't run into any. I suspect they frown on such behavior.

No way. I got those two games at the same time as well. However, I didn't end up enjoying either of them as much as I'd like to. (Especially not Eternal Darkness, which now I can't play since I vowed to never play an M rated game again)

Speaking of ''EternalDarkness'', anyone had problems exclaiming "This can't be happening!" when shocked/mortified, had a shiver run down their spine at a chirping sound that turned out to be a bird or a smell that turned out to be vanilla and only vanilla, was reluctant to go near the tub in their bathroom, found themselves associating colors with their respective Ancients, or wanting to kill their natural curious impulses dead, that or said to someone "I wouldn't read your private mail if I didn't love you"?

Whenever this troper watches his favorite movie, he can't help but think and speak like the main protagonist(s?). I would tell you the movie, but that would be breaking the rules.

Actually this happens to This Troper with most if not all movies he watches. The more he likes that particular movie/actor, the stronger is the Effect, however developing a kind of immunity to movies he had already watched countless times.

This Troper actually wrote an essay on quoting films while secretly sneaking in several quotes from The Matrix.

This troper experienced the Tetris Effect with Xeno Tactic. After several days of spending most of his free time playing of it, he started seeing alien and turret fire motions everywhere. (The game puts quite some stress on the motion detecting part of the visual cortex.)

Not a very surprising effect, but... Play first-person shooters actively a few years, and then go to a zone laser center. I guarantee you'll find yourself moving like you do in the games (such as circle strafing, etc).

This troper knows someone that played Half-Life 2 Deathmatch too much. In that game, if someone gets a rocket launcher, you'll see the red laser sight appearing on surfaces around you, which is your cue to get outta there! Well, at his job, someone was doing a routine job with a laser temperature device. The red laser appeared right in front of him, and he took off!

OH MY GOD, ''PuzzleQuest''. This troper once played that accursed game for like six hours, and decided it was time for bed when she started ''naming'' the different colored gems (the red ones were Jim!) and literally thinking of the yellow ones as ''lemon flavored''. She then saw grids of gems whenever she closed her eyes for two days straight. Now, though, she's gotten slightly more immune.

This troper played World of Warcraft for the first time after many years of virtual abstinence from [=RPG=]s for a few days until the university started and he had to help with some menial tasks over there as per Russian educational tradition. He perceived it all as a fairly annoying series of fetch quests, basically.

Aforementioned troper has also been stalking the rare Spirit Beast Loque'nahak for going on 60 hours over a week now. Being a top-geared paladin healer for one of the best raiding guilds on her server, this troper regularly responds to health losses in other games by hitting the '3' key for a quick blast of Holy Light. She also finds herself 'air healing' while watching gameplay movies or recorded boss fights. "Shift-3, shift-3 damn it!"

This troper sometimes gets bad migraines and tries to sleep them off instead of getting advil, the result is always a half daze with me walking around, controlled by a mouse and WoW UI controlling my movements, it's a very surreal experience.

''Minesweeper''. Back when she used to be addicted, this troper would start jumping on random tiles on the floor and avoid the ones that could be hiding a "bomb".

Oh, heavens yes. The pages in this troper's math notebook that weren't dedicated to plotting out SimCity 2000 neighborhood had hand-drawn minesweeper boards on them while I tried to puzzle out how to create a game that was winnable, but challenging. At one point, I saw minesweeper boards when trying to fall asleep.

This troper had a devil's (or Demon's?) time putting down the original ''{{Halo}}.'' Grunt conversations... the joys of the sniper rifle... meleeing a room full of snoring Grunts... meleeing an Elite with active camo on... driving the Scorpion... laughing as two rooms full of Covenant and Flood beat the crap out of each other and completely ignored Master Chief... PANDEMIC 2. After one hour or four games you will start cursing like a sailor whenever Madagascar is mentioned.

This Troper, when he first got FEAR, stayed up till, like, 2 am or so playing it. After he finished shutting down the (noisy) computer, he started walking down a dark hallway to his room. I failed to notice my 10 year old sister had come out of her room, being very tired. I nearly shot her, had I had a firearm.

Though it is on the extreme end of obscure, @/FreezairForALimitedTime has had her subconscious dominated by an obscure Game Boy RPG called ''LilMonster'' since she first played the beast at age 11. Like most {{Mons}} games, you GottaCatchThemAll--and each monster you can obtain corresponds to one of the game's 60 gems. She obtained monsters 1 through 58. She could never find 59 and 60. This drove her to madness as a small child, and she would have many dreams in which she would discover entire new worlds, areas, and even ''gameplay modes'' within the game--each time, weeping happy tears that she had "finally" found the last two monsters--only to be woken and realize that she'd been deceived by her dreams. To this day, she occasionally has dreams about cracking the game's secrets. And she's ''still'' irritated that they've all turned out to be false thus far.

This troper has a thing about fast-paced action games. After a particularly marathon session of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, he had pictures of superhero fights running through his head all night. Same deal with Guitar Hero. It gets really annoying.

@/{{Joysweeper}} played GoldenSun too much a few years back, and always had Mind Read set on the L-trigger. Her arm still twitches a bit whenever she meets someone(wouldn't that be convenient? She's bad at names and body language), and she can't read anything about mindreaders without hearing that sound effect. ''Tink -- Tink -- Tink''

@/{{Tabby}} nearly swerved off the road to hit one of the reflectors that marks a fire hydrant after several hours of KingdomHearts, thinking it was a blue trinity mark. The first friend she told this story to afterwards rolled his eyes: "Well, that was stupid. You didn't have Donald and Goofy with you; you wouldn't have been able to use it!"

This troper could say a lot about this. After {{Hitman}}, he instinctively sneaked and leaned left/right the way 47 does; he grinned ominously upon picking up a crowbar; and the countless times when, during a way home from school, he wondered what computer graphic techniques would be necessary to render his neighborhood as a first person shooter.

Some time after finishing {{Thief}}, he was going home from school, when suddenly he noticed a group of dangerous-looking teenagers; he immediately leaped in the shadow, thinking that it will make him invisible.

...and it also works with literature. After reading a play by Shakespeare, for example, he thinks in iambic pentameter for some time.

You too!? This troper speaks and writes in nothing BUT iambic pentameter for at least a month after. Othello is the play with the greatest affect on me, to the point where I also instinctively add epithets to ever character I write about.

This troper does the same thing with crowbars. It's particularly agonising because there are several lying around the house right now (we're renovating) and I can't comment on it because no one else in the family has played any of the ''Half-Life'' games.

This troper, after playing a game of Go, would find himself seeing moves being played out behind his eyelids afterwards. This gets to the point where he thinks up new moves ''while simultaneously carrying out a conversation with someone on a completely unrelated subject''.

This troper managed to get TheTetrisEffect with ''SuperMarioBros. 3'' before even playing it (well, aside from the time playing the beta at an arcade). On the day it was purchased, he didn't get home until about 9 PM and it was a school night, so his father took away the game until the next day so he wouldn't spend all night playing it. Instead, he spent all night lying awake in bed, ''anticipating'' playing it, and replaying the few levels he'd played from the beta over and over again in his mind.

This Troper is a an avid Tetris player who, when she goes to the supermarket, usually arranges the cans and bags of food she places in the cart almost as if these were Tetris pieces, trying to make them all fit geometrically and in order.

This troper actually dislikes Tetris itself, but insists on doing that for contents in the cart and when putting them on the belt for the cashier.

This troper works at a grocery store where the customers do all the bagging and speedy-scanning is a virtue, but she is still compelled to toss the scanned items into the cart so that they'll settle in the most compact way possible.

The day you try and say "The World" and end up saying "TheWorldEndsWithYou" and explain your depression by claiming that you're "resisting emo urges", you know that there is no hope for you.

Or when you hear Sho Minamimoto's voice in your head in math class or when you do math homework. "Sine! Cosine! Tangent! FOIL: First Outer Inner Last! ''n''! So zetta SLOW! IN-FINITYYYYY!"

I cant be the only person who wants to know what everyone is thinking. Granted, that seems to me to be an obvious want, and i had this want before, but playing TWEWY didnt help.

This troper was having a normal conversation at school, once, when she said: "So zetta slow!". Out of context, too. From then on, she knew she was lost.

This troper once thought "That shop's clothes looks rather *insert brand here* like to me," while going to different boutiques. Apparently Marks and Spencers is Natural Puppy.

This troper has to restrain herself from using "zetta" ''too'' regularly, does the whole brands-thing, ''and'' tries to figure out what every pin she sees on a purse or lapel does.

@/KingSonnDeeDoo was cooking pasta, and when the water started boiling, without thinking, she yelled out in a deep voice "NOW WE'RE BOILING!".

This troper knew she was lost when she started freaking out every time the alert tone for texting sounded, phantom pains in her hand included. She had to turn off that alert.

This troper became seriously depressed when she figured out how to check her total amount of playtime on this game. 97 hours. I've been playing this for ninty-freakin'-seven hours? ... Let's go for 100. I also look for clothes in real life that I have in the game. 33% of my shopping is probably just this.

@/{{Marshmello}} acheived 100% completion a few months ago and has logged almost 200 hours of play time. She stopped playing once she finished, but she finds the finality of having fully completed the game so upsetting that she's seriously considering erasing all of her data and starting over from scratch. She was at a point where most of her waking thoughts were somehow related to the game, she said the characters' names in her sleep, and on several occasions accidentally called her younger brother 'Beat'. Her condition hasn't improved much since she put the game down.

Finally got that stupid freaking frog to fill out the Noise Report. Still obsessed. So much that I bought the whole frikking soundtrack. God, I love this game.

This Troper has gotten to the point where, when getting dressed, he has an urge to compare its 'stats' with his other clothes. Also, he regularly uses 'zetta' and 'yoctograms' in casual conversation, and punching the palm of his hand randomly. And he happens to have a hat that highly resembles Sho's. And he just got the game last week.

Thanks to many a FPS, this troper has developed the habit of checking all 4 corners of a room for cameras/guns, and approaches most doors expecting a demon/zombie/enemy to be right behind it.

Oh god yes. @/{{Darkurai}} believes that had he and his girlfriend not yet had their first kiss, then the day they did, his Social Link with her would've reached the next level.

Once, after a weekend marathon of Persona 3, this troper had to choose what to do before school. He started thinking of it in terms of Social Links. It was when he got to "Social link A is at this level, and Link B is at this level" that he realised nither of them had levels because he was ''not'' playing Persona 3, but rather at school.

This troper has helped himself fall asleep by playing through the first level of Jedi Knight ''in his head'', making sure to visit all the secret areas and recalling the NPC dialogue points.

This troper has hallucinated a Command & Conquer base on his pillow during a bad fever. He has dreamt, amongst others: Quake using the spells from Diablo instead of weapons, Counter-strike, City of Heroes and Final Fantasy. Plus non-specific versions of genres: graphic adventures, 2D platformers, {{RPG}}s and even a text adventure (yes, as a dream). It has reached the point he can confidently answer the question of, "What happens when you die in a dream?" This troper simply ''restarts the level''.

C&C with Diablo spells? OH HELLS YES.

This troper did that with LordsOfTheRealm 2, and could not play the game for months aftewords without becoming ill. Of course he was terrible at it, so it was no real loss.

This troper, a serious fan of drift racing games like ''Initial D Arcade Stage'' and ''Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune'', tries to plot the fastest way around a corner when walking or running, and when running turns his body inward towards the corner as if he was drifting. And to say nothing of when turn arrows pop up in his head, or he looks at a map of Silicon Valley's highways and tries to plot WMMT-esque courses on them. On top of that, he, a college student, refers to lectures as "stages" when taking notes in his notebook.

This troper, from playing ''Wangan Midnight'', hears the "DING-DING-DING-DING-DING-DING" of a tight corner signal all the time while driving on winding roads.

Not specifically video game related, but... this troper, in her time off, is a casual pixel artist. With an itchy 'undo'-key finger. Ever seen someone try to find Control-Z on an analog paper-and-cardboard sketchbook? Frantically, for two or three minutes. Until I realised- oh, yeah, I've got an eraser.

This troper couldn't stop playing Custom Robo for the longest time. After playing ratchet and Clank too much, this troper kept trying to do the rocket shoes thing in real life. Awkward.

After playing through too much ''{{Touhou}}'' this troper sees nearly ''everything'' as a bullet and tries to dodge it. Someone, tattoo a hitbox onto my back!

After watching too much Touhou-related junk, @/TehSandwich now sees ''everything'' as Touhou-related, from the student stampede at his school as bullets, to imagining music as bullet patterns. Try it with ''speedcore'' or hell... ''10000+ bpm'' extratone. At least it's not invading his dreams.

Similarly, after ''one day'' of playing the eight official Touhou game and testing the ''Danmakufu'' program (where you can create patterns), Delpolo found that avoiding people in crowded hallways both became easier and much more fun, as well as started seeing patterns with his eyes closed. In fact, because of ''Danmakufu'', one can sync bullet patterns to background music, leading to something similar to the ''StepMania'' and ''Guitar Hero'' examples above.

My brain makes danmaku patterns when I close my eyes! I love these games, but I think it could be a bad sign that I think about how a real-life danmaku duel would work on my way home from school....

This troper went to a fireworks show and started mentally mapping out how to fly through each set of explosions. She also has developed a hobby of researching various mythical beasts and designing CuteMonsterGirl versions with Nice Hats.

This Troper also plays far too much Touhou, and has been seeing everything as bullet patterns to dodge recently. Also, while playing other video games, her first reaction to taking damage is to hit the X key, then realise that she's out of bombs, then realise that she isn't playing Touhou.

This Troper has played far too much of Mercenaries 2: World In Flames recently, and on seeing the setup for the critical scene in Tropic Thunder instantly thought 'nah, you can't hit anything at that distance with an RPG, there's no danger', due to the game's habit of having helicopters nimbly dodge RPG rounds, or for them to veer wildly off target. And has taken to imagining tall buildings collapsing in clouds of dust due to spending hours just driving around in a tank demolishing things for fun.

For non-native English speakers, reading a lot of English text or watching movies/series in English language can have a similar effect.

Totally true. This Dutch troper has become completely bilingual after seven years' worth of FanFic. On occasion, when reading in Dutch, she finds herself ''mentally translating the text into English.''

Seconded. This Dutch troper regularly finds himself thinking of a word/expression/sentence in English when talking (either physically or via email/im/etc) to other people and having to translate it to Dutch. He estimates about a third of his thinking is done in English. And has developed the annoying habit of shouting at the TV whenever the subtitles are incorrect translations.

This Troper now frequently ''thinks'' in English despite it being not his native language.

This troper - also Hungarian - nowdays reads more English text than Hungarian, so he also thinks in English a lot. Sometimes without noticing. Also, while translating poorly dubbed TV-series back to English is quite normal, he sometimes translates Hungarian series to English too.

Although I've known I tend to think in English for years now, this Finnish troper got really amused when she realized she was stressing about an upcoming English test in English. It also sucks trying to write an essay in Finnish and going on to realize I've done all the planning in English.

Even for this English troper, after double-period classes of French (an hour and a half), she noticed she was subconsciously attempting to translate her thoughts into French (even though she's not very good at the language in the first place).

This Swedish Troper thinks everything in English, to the degree he would find life a lot easier if he spoke English instead. Being into acting he always finds improvising much harder in Swedish than English, since he's grown up with English acting. And trying to even make music in Swedish? The fewtimes he's tried the results have been less than desirable.

Inverted for @/{{Silverevilchao}}: in a subconscious attempt to keep those four years of Japanese she obtained in high school, she finds herself thinking of things she sees in Japanese, or mentally translating things she hears from people talking, or mentally translating what people say in English dubs in anime, or mentally translating the Japanese she hears in the subbed anime she watches ''alongside the subtitles!''

This Finnish troper suffers from the double whammy of reading solely English texts on the Net and watching subbed anime. When she's not thinking in English, she's thinking in Japanese, frequently muttering Japanese phrases to herself. Her attempts at studying German crashed and burned because her mind kept supplying the Japanese grammatical constructs when she was trying to summon German. She sometimes has trouble speaking in her ''mother tongue'' because she has to translate her English thoughts to Finnish first!

This troper sometimes finds himself interjecting random English words into his conversations because he can find them faster than the more appropiate ones in his native language. Heck, he's afraid he might be ''forgetting'' how to speak in the tongue he grew up with.

After watching every episode of LuckyStar in one night, the inner monologue I got from HaruhiSuzumiya suddenly became Konata's voice.

Another non-video game example: This troper, after a weekend-long ''{{Supernatural}}'' ArchiveBinge, has noticed her tone of voice has changed to what she can only describe as Winchester Snark.

Non-video game one, once again. This troper has been participating in NaNoWriMo for two years (2006, 2007) and plans to do so again this year. Unfortunately, she is an avid writer so it always happens that I start writing at noon and finish around 1 am, muttering: "Just... a few... more... words!"

Not to mention when she sees anything, anything at all, even a fire hydrant and begins thinking up a terribly complicated plot, characters, often involving some form of time travel. She... she doesn't watch TV in November anymore.

This troper couldn't sleep the night she blew off her roleplaying friends to play Spore. She got on the next day...only to post her Spore creature as a character in the roleplays, and babble on about how she got said creature in the game.

Bullet hell shmups. Wait, did I hear a laugh? Anyway, if I read anything, unless it enthralls me quickly, I can't help but look at the spaces between the words, perceiving each word as a bullet, and thinking "wow, that would be a killer pattern" or "gah, that's cheap".

Fun fact: those tripod-mounted lasers that surveyors use look ''exactly'' like the mobile sentry guns in Half Life.

This Troper finds himself overwhelmed constantly by a urge to Suit Zoom on faraway objects.

I saw a team of surveyors (with said tripod-mounted lasers) out by a road near my house once and FREAKED, slammed on the brakes and desperately looked for another route (as I had no defense). My friend politely reminded me that we had passed a 'SURVEYORS AT WORK' sign not five minutes ago and that this was, in fact, real life.

This Troper has found that after playing ''Half-Life'' she now plots out rather...unconvential routes to get to places. One such example was when she was standing on a balcony, and the route she thought up involved walking along the top of wall, going across a roof, leaping to another wall, only to leap a short way down onto a dustbin, and then onto the ground. Her friend then told her that she could just simply walk down the nearby stairs.

This is what happens if you play forum based [=RPs=] too long: you start dreaming obsessively about it. Even worse if it is an SF action-adventure RP, then every hallway will remind you of it.

Try dreaming about sitting at the computer, posting. It wasn't until I realized how OOC one of the other posters I was dream-reading the posts of had sworn NEVER to participate in that particular RP that I realized something wasn't right, though it wasn't until I realized that his posts I was dreaming was massive OOC for him that I realized I was even dreaming. And then I was in bed and like "Holy crap, I don't remeber ''going to bed''!" Dreaming about being characters is automatic for me, but that was just... not good.

This troper has participated in chatroom [=RPs=] for several years, and does not think dreaming of her characters to be out of the ordinary. Dreaming ''in text'', however... I'm also known to mentally plot out how different characters would respond to various real-life situations. And mention them in real-life conversations. "Yeah, Sandy said something like that..." "...er, who?" "Nobody!"

After a long marathon of DooM and DooM 2, this troper kept hearing the sounds of DooM doors opening and closing just out of his field of vision. I also superimposed the growling sounds of Imps onto the least popular guy where I work. Even in my past, I once had a looong marathon of this old DOS game called Hocus Pocus, which ended up flooding my dreamscape with little apprentice wizards running around zapping monsters with their lightning bolts. Even no in the present, I still seem to have a Metroid Prime style scan visor built into my vision.

Holy crap, someone else remembers Hocus Pocus?

Oh, so I'm not the only one who started scanning everyday items? Just try playing the Trilogy to 100% completion without beginning to compulsively scan everything.

This troper has yelled "Medic!" just for fun when it would seem like I need it, as it works on how people are aware soldiers tend to yell that when injured. On that note, do medics carry stimulants? I don't sleep enough very often, also.

@/JapaneseTeeth suffers from this horribly when he does an ArchiveBinge of anything. The worst was during his binge on MahouSenseiNegima, where he has spent ''hours'' thinking about how exactly he would go about adapting it into a (good) anime. Right down to pacing, camera angles, music, alternate dialogue, clarifying plot points... After he (at least partially) exhausted that, he moved on to thinking about how the character's would function in a tactical {{RPG}}, right down to stats and mechanics. ARRGGG.

You're not alone. @/ThirtyTwoFootsteps did the same thing with Negima... although he abandoned the RPG stats when he decided a fighting game would work much better. He also suspects that Ken Akamatsu does the same thing (the manga seems to be written to encourage this behavior).

Try doing the same with {{Persona 3}}. This Troper was obsessed with how exactly she'd go about making a ''good'' Persona 3 manga.

This troper suffers from this ''bad''; she tends to dream about things she's currently obsessed with. Which means she dreams of {{Geneforge}} and {{Pokemon}}. When you have Pokemon/creation duels, you know you need to cut back.

This troper played MASSIVE amounts of Pokemon and later Zelda as an elementary schooler. (Still do.) The resulting dreams are why, to this day, I still think Erika has a Trainer House with a glowing glass ceiling resembling a quilt with marbles hanging overhead, and a painting in her office that links to Heaven. Even worse is when you start instictively pressing 'R' at the slightest sound, or even for no reason in the middle of a jump. That's when you stop playing.

When this troper was making a Super Metroid-style sprite and couldn't finish it that day, she found herself ''dreaming and thinking in pixels''. And not even the right colour pixels, too. That was when she KNEW she had to finish that sprite...

Bah, I do that ''all the time'', probably because I make sprites all the time. I also play various games in my head (mostly old ones). ''Joust'', ''Rampage'', ''Sonic Riders'', and ''Tetris'' are the most common ones. I have played SO much ''Sonic Riders'' that when I close my eyes, I see either Splash Canyon or sometimes Sand Ruins.

On the Rampage note: This troper has logged literally ''thousands'' of hours onto the N64 games over the years and has subsequently started seeing buildings in their successive stages of damage on a few occasions. It's horrifying beyond belief. I also can't see a pair of boxing gloves without thinking about super building destroying punches.

For @/LullTheConqueror, it was {{NetHack}}. I stopped playing so obsessively after I ascended my first character, but in those first few weeks I must have killed about five hundred characters trying to get my hands on that damned Amulet.

You realise this is about people continuing to do game-like things even in real life, right? I hope you don't mean that literally. :)

On the subject of the actual trope, Tropers/KatanaCat can go for almost a year without playing ''NetHack'' and still keep thinking #pray when something goes wrong.

This Troper has played ''The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past'' so many times that he knows the entire game by heart, and commonly finds himself ''playing through the whole game in his mind'' when he's bored, with accurate enemy positions and behaviors. It's quite scary.

I wish it was some platforming game so I could make a joke about your mind being unresponsive.

@/{{Cameoflage}} has been thoroughly spoiled by playing way too much ''Half-Life 2''; she is often disappointed by her inability to yank things over to her from across the room.

This troper's eye would often be drawn to a number of wooden pallets that had gone unnoticed until they started showing up en masse in Half-Life 2.

I remember getting an above ground pool. "That looks heavy. Where'd I put the gravity gun?"

Oh yes, FinalFantasyX. @/{{Cybele}} recalls getting the game for her birthday, and had the entire week of spring break to play it. If I wasn't leveling, I was playing blitzball. If I wasn't playing blitzball, I was leveling. "Just one more sphere level....just...one...more...must...learn..." ''Up until 2 in the morning''. What made that even worse (...or better?) is that when I ''would'' turn the game off, I'd watch AdultSwim's anime block. Also, while playing the game, the same three thoughts always ran through my head:

This troper, who plays ''{{Tetris}}: The Grand Master'', doesn't just imagine falling blocks. He imagines blocks instant-dropping (aka "20G"), accompanied by the beeps from TGM.

This Troper, during a trip to Las Vegas in which he played a fair bit of video poker one day, started seeing video poker hands upon closing his eyes later that night. This was taken as a sign he should really stop playing...before he lost any more money, naturally.

This Troper has to switch between QWERTY and QWERTZ keyboard layouts whenever he wants to type something in English/Czech. Once he wondered which layout he had on while taking a note ''on his cell phone''.

This Troper decided to stop playing Okami for a while when she realized she started to mentally draw circles around bare trees and other "Beautifying" Paint Brush effects.

@/DarkInsanity13 and her brother are gaming addicts (he more than her, but still applicable nonetheless). She shushes people while playing Tetris, he wants to whip out a keyblade to bash random things over the head with. Both start seeing notes when listening to certain songs (or the world oddly starts rising) after playing/watching RockBand for a while.

Internet Flash game Boomshine. This troper has started to see pretty little bursts of circles in front of her eyes when she's falling asleep.

@/{{Leradny}} has started to associate ''brightly-lit areas with slow motion'', particularly when she has spent a while in a dimly lit area like the theater her drama class is set in. "Why is everyone moving so fast?!"

This troper was once desperately ill with pneumonia, but before she got too sick to sit up, she spent her time sitting at the computer and playing Tetris. When full-fledged near-death set in, she actually HALLUCINATED Tetris pieces in front of her several times, to the point of flailing fever-induced paranoia. She got better though.

@/{{Stoney}} has had to be reminded that bottlecaps are not money.

I've personally collected 120 caps before a friend threw them all out and I had to start over again.

Playing ''MarioKart'' before driving makes this troper have to suppress the urge to ram other drivers. And this stupid map doesn't seem to have any item boxes...

...and when I close my eyes, there it is, my tower of goo, climbing high before toppling to the ground, over and over again.

In another non-videogame example, this troper finds that after playing certain characters with his improv theater club, he'll often be unable to shake the accent and speech patterns for DAYS. Try explaining to your history teacher why you just gave a ten minute presentation on the major battles of the American Civil War entirely in a horrible parody of a Swedish accent.

This troper was amazed to find, of all things, that tinwhistle players have their own name for this as related to their hobby: Whistle Obsessive Acquistion Disorder ([=WhOA=] Disorder or WOAD)

After playing way too many levels of {{Thief}} II in a row, this troper found herself spotting places she could hide in the shadows and "wait for guards", no matter where she was. She even recalls doing that after just ''watching'' her father play it.

Oh, god, don't remind me. It was bad enough when I first discovered that game, as it kept me sitting at my computer for a full week playing and re-playing it. And then I discovered the fan missions. The many, many fan missions. It's just a good thing I was unemployed at the time, otherwise I would have had to give up sleep.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who does this. Thanks to this series, I wince whenever my footsteps are louder than normal. The guards are gonna hear me, man!

After hearing a song that I like so many times, I start to try do evreything to the rhythm of it. I also have my own definition for the tetris effect, which is how most falling block and match three puzzle games or other games like that (Which perssonaly, I feel should really be actual genres seprate from other puzzle games to make it easier to find the kind of puzzle games you're looking for) is considered to be "like tetris". Because after all, the only similaraties to tetris is that it's in a pit, so it must be like tetris right? There is an exception to this however, and that's Trion cube.

''Fallout3''. I've begun to imagine where I would scavenge for food and Stimpacks in my hometown in the event of Nuclear Armageddon. Where would I built a Vault? Starting to imagine what my friends would look like as ghouls. Imagining the V.A.T.S. display on people walking down the street and mentally calculating the probability of pulling off a headshot with a hunting rifle at this range. And of course there's the music. ''Bingo Bangle Bungle I'm so happy in the jungle I refuse to go...''

One time I was wondering where I was, and about a second later I caught myself looking at an imaginary Pip-Boy map on my wrist.

I teamed up with a few of my friends for a friendly game of dodgeball one weekend after a marathon session, and I swear every time I aimed at someone VATS popped up. Improved my aim, too.

After playing Fallout 3 for the first time, it was late at night and I was getting dizzy. I immediately looked at my wrist and began poking at it like a touch screen until I felt better. Then for the next few months, I would get sudden flashes of the wasteland.

Non-game example: This troper has, after cutting herself, thought "Damn, I wish I had self-repair systems..." a la Transformers. Then she remembered she *does* , they're just horribly organic and inefficent. She daydreams about being a robot and spends even the class she needs to pay attention to writing fanfics in her head.

...Please marry me.

After getting Wind Waker and playing it obsessively for a couple of days, this troper caught a glimpse of the moon in the cloudless sky while sitting in a car. She perked up immediatedly, because if the Moon looks like that, then the Ghost Ship is in - hold on, that place doesn't exist in the real world. Come to think of it, neither does the Ghost Ship. Damn.

She has also been known to try to find the "undo" button in real life when drawing/painting.

This troper once played ''TheSims2'' so much that she started having a queue of tasks in her head with little symbols. She always got confused and huffy when someone gave her a new "command" and tried to cancel the ones she already had in her queue.

This troper started to move and sit like a Sim. Not for very long. The weird looks you get cure it quick.

This troper once got home from work after being awake with the Sims all night before. She fell onto her bed and closed her eyes and almost immediately started dozing, and thought "I should take a nap." After a second, she then thought "Nah, I'll just use the cappuccino machine." After a second, the realization of what she'd just thought her hit hard enough to wake her up completely.

Oh, good, someone else has done the "arrange queue" thing. I've also accidentally sent Sims to bed because I forgot that the "Sleep In Pajamas" interaction doesn't work for the player. Also, you know the animation when Sims forget how to go someplace? I've done that, but with less arm-waving and more trying to find the cursor.

This troper had two dreams, about video games in general but interesting:

First, one must understand the context. This troper learned about recent evidence that suggested dreams, hallucinations, delusions and other altered states reflected the processes used by the brain. Many of the errors found in computer and video games are the same as those in altered states: Clipping errors, untextured areas, distorted time and other weird shit. He believes that his unconscious wanted to explain something that he was intelligent but not wise (being unfamiliar with psychology and neurology) enough to understand:

His first dream: He was told to take a walk, did not want to do so but agreed. He discovered that he was in a FirstPersonShooter, where he had used a cheat code. This code caused bugs: The characters' heads became transparent and untextured. He woke up to a potential epiphany: He concluded that the bugs in games and altered states were caused by the same errors.

He had, apparently, learned too little from the first dream because another came to him. It was vivid yet the deatails were vague: A sports game that somehow, involved swimming and penguins. He awoke with another thought: Perhaps, we could measure and compare the electrical impulses produced in altered states and games. We might create simulations of altered states, measure the electrical activity, add intentional bugs to simulate the errors in altered states, then, again, measure the electrical activity. Perhaps, we could alter the brain's electrical activity in the opposite way and create more consistent experiences. We might gain insights into the natures of our brains, cure diseases such as schizophrenia, paranoia, delusions and mania and end bad dreams.

Best, though unrealistic, scenario: We might be able to feed old men and terminal patients D.M.T, use this information to create the maximum perceived distortion of time, prevent them from having bad trips and make them think that they are, indefinitely in Heaven. D.M.T, apparently, disappears from the body after 10 minutes so overdosing should not be an issue.

When I am old and in a nursing home, when my bones are brittle, when I have forgotten the taste of ice cream or my first love or my favorite song, I will still be trying to Firewall and Firebolt Hodes. I have never left Sograt Desert. It still waits for me.

While you dwell in the Sograt, I wade through the cool waters of Byalan. Ahh, Ragna. One of the older {{MMORPG}}s and this troper's first and only online game. Art style, music, setting, story - you name it, I love it. My fanfiction is more often than not set in RO-verse, and said fanfiction-planning/writing takes up a lot of the troper's time. Even game jargon has found its way to real-life conversation. And oh, this troper randomly draws porings on blackboards, strips of paper, notebooks...

''{{Bejeweled}}'' has taken over my life and dreams. When you hallucinate the gems, you know you have a problem.

This troper not only sees the jems when she closes her eyes, but trys to solve them too.

"This lesson tires me. Comma, pyro, mmph! *fwoosh* "

This troper sometimes dreams in webpages, including some with formatting recognizable as TVTropesWiki and YKTTW(and before she left a certain forum she dreamed of it also). She does enough reading both online and on the printed page to dream "in text", though frustratingly the text is often incoherent or just unreadable.

This Troper has seen both Advance Wars and Fire Emblem units whenever he closed his eyes at some point.

This troper frequently sees Nero comboing objects in his surroundings.

A non-video game example: After reading the ZombieSurvivalGuide, this troper kept looking around for weapons. As he read through it for the first time, a ceremonial axe was casually leaning against the wall next to him.

This troper, after reading said book, always looks for weapons and escape routes in all new environments, just in case zombies come.

Why isn't a good crowbar ever around when you really need it?

Never. Winter. Nights. 2. Dammit Obsidian, why are your games so buggy, and yet so ''awesome''?

This troper is an officer in ROTC, and upon seeing his platoon be rather troublesome, he turned to his sergeant and went, "We need to get these men in order. Where's the damn comissar?"

Recently, I spent all day running down the fastest possible strategy to win the final chapter of FireEmblem: Shadow Dragon in my head. 3 turns, 2 warp staffs, and Merric. Max out Thoron at the forge. Warp in Abel. No, bring in Gotoh. Let Marth have the kill. That's it!

In ''Haunting Ground'', the normal creepy area music means you're safe-ish, the enemy music clearly means the enemy is near... and the silence that comes in between is torture; sometimes it lasts for a full minute, at other times a few seconds, and it occasionally just means there's a Luminessant or Homunculus hanging out. This troper, along with a number of her friends, begins to twitch whenever she hears dead silence, and nervously looks around for either a hiding spot, a patch of shadow behind a convenient door, or a clock at which to save.

On a related note, the sound of a clock ticking has become a very soothing noise.

This troper has, several times, triumphantly held new objects above her head when she gets them. Sometimes accompanied with triumphant music. "You got Twilight Princess! Kiss your spare time goodbye!" Also, at one stage she played so much Spider Solitaire she saw cards whenever she closed her eyes.

''Picross''. Just Picross. This troper pulled out the DS version again recently, and ended up playing it non-stop. When I went home for spring break, I intentionally left the game at school, only to find an online version and resume the addiction. I had to stop when I couldn't look at anything without seeing an imaginary Picross board over it.

Chess has become the major game of this troper's yeargroup. He recently overheard one person talking about how they had begun to think in chess moves.

@/{{Griffin}} once had a random dream involving her, her little sister, and her neighbors ending up in the OnePiece world. Next thing she knows, she's turned it into a fanfic in her head. The story has become long, complicated, and is a giant crossover with practically everything she's read. Also, her AuthorAvatar has married a weasel/human shapeshifter who used to be her stuffed toy. And they have a kid. And there are some other kids as well. Creepy kids.

10am-2am ''GodofWar'' plus dream infiltration - OH GOD, THE NIGHTMARES! *sob*

@/{{Mango013}} had a funny incident after purchasing Left4Dead. After a ''long'' night of playing this troper was alarmed when he saw a kid in a hoodie, squatting on some rails with a couple of other hoodlums, smoking on less. "'''FUCK!'''"

After playing ''MadWorld'' for a prolonged period of time and going to a high school, you come up with some rather interesting combinations. Hmm, maybe I should jam a protractor into the mouth, slam their head in a locker a couple of times, nearly drown them with paint, burn their eyes with a projector, burn their head a bit with a 3D printer (that melts plastic, I believe), and finish with a computer screen?

Playing a bit too much of ''TheWorldEndsWithYou'' had this effect on me. I snicker whenever I see my classmate Joshua in music class. The words "Composer", "time limit", or "Noise" make me cringe, and I get stabs of pain when I see people with writing on their palms. I even had to disable texting alerts on my phone because I would panic every time I got a text. To top it all off, I think about the Game and what my situation would be if I entered it. Obsession, indeed.

This troper can't look at hey keyboard after playing too much mahjong solitaire without a confusing moment of "But I can't use any of those keys, they're all closed off..."

Put it this way: I ''still'' frequently mis-write "deception" in my Psychology exams as "Decepticon"...

@/Emperordaein would probabbly not have touched any of the Veteran missions on Call of Duty: World at War, if not for the sweet, sweet Achievement Points each mission gives upon completion. Thus, I spent two hours trying to complete various missions on Veteran just so I could get them. Also, due to the first person effects in this game (As well as COD 4) I now see the world like a CallOfDuty game. *Hold X to pick up '''Nintendo DS'''*

VivaPinata. Hoo boy. KingSonnDeeDoo thinks she may have been playing it a tad too much, due to the fact that she now often wonders what the romance requirments are of her dog and cats. Also, having played it in very close conjuntion with a certain other game mentioned above, she now thinks about which characters would be which pinatas.

Another non-game example. After a solid weekend doing an animation blitz for a student film (which involved 50 hours hunched over a light table in the arts building), this troper watched her shadow as she walked to class... and was impressed that it was moving perfectly on ones.

Ugh, don't remind me, I bought rhythm heaven last month I think, after awhile I had several of the game themes stuck in my head as earworms and was playing out the taps and flicks to each minigame. Yes, Rhythm heaven has TheTetrisEffect and EarWorm elements in it at the same time. I think the same can be said for any RhythmGame

''BattleForWesnoth'' for @/{{Thespaceinvader}}. When I first started playing, I was seeing hexes when I closed my eyes. It affects a lot of people. There's a 60-page thread listing reasons you've been playing for too long...

This doesn't happen much to me, but once, while playing {{Pikmin}} almost exclusively for 3 days and becoming very attached to the game (And my Pikmin!), I once closed my eyes and saw VERY clearly a yellow Pikmin standing around waiting for my orders.

This troper once had a dream that was sort of a cross between ''Impossible Mission'' and ''BionicCommando''. I had to infiltrate a {{mad scientist}}'s headquarters and disarm his DoomsdayDevice, and was equipped with a grappling hook or bionic arm. Naturally, I failed. The final scene of the dream was a view of the earth from space. Cue EarthShatteringKaboom.

Some time after being introduced to {{Iji}}, this troper found himself blurting out "Ciretako!" to express exasperation in family arguments etc. ''The game's creator'' told me I needed to cut down.

This troper, after a couple hours of BeatmaniaIIDX nearly nonstop, looked at a stationary IIDX notechart and could've sworn it was scrolling downwards.

This same troper, the day after playing too much {{Touhou}}, found himself looking at a synchronized dance team and trying to figure out the safest way to dodge that bullet pattern.

This Troper got a copy of ''FinalFantasyCrystalChronicles Ring of Fates'' and didn't have to play it for long before she started thinking in Al-speak (ending almost every sentence with the "-al" sound)...

I did the same thing, but with Gnash-speak. As a bonus, I actually named my dog "Gnash."

This troper hears the ''Final Fantasy'' victory music in her mind a lot, while her friend likes to do squats ala Zack and Cloud from the 7th game. Both of us randomly quote some of Zack's Limit Break lines from ''CrisisCore'' as well.

''{{Quake}} 2'' could be modded to make CTF's grappling hook available in the single-player games. After hours of addictive high-speed fun, this troper would get the sensation of flight at random spontaneous intervals while walking, sitting, trying to fall asleep. Often I'd view objects from a distance and imagine snagging them.

Similarly, TheElderScrolls ''Daggerfall'' and ''Morrowind'' allowed for obscenely high jumps that were faster and funner than flying. Extended play of both left this troper with seriously distorted perception of real physics limitations, and again the sensation of flight.

After particuarly long sessions of ''{{Peggle}}'', when @/KingSonnDeeDoo closes her eyes, she sees lots of blue and orange pegs, as if set out in a ''Peggle'' stage. She now makes sure she doesn't play for too long before bed.

@/DrNamgge is convinced that, if he can run fast enough his forward momentum will allow him to propell himself with no feet on the ground. He also thinks he can go much faster, and scale verticle walls by ducking down and then revving in one place. Both of these ideas have come from years of playing ''SonicTheHedgehog''.

Inverted with this troper, who is an Elder Scrolls fan and a BikerChick. Once upon a time she rode a horse from Skingrad to Anvil... and tried to look at the horse's speedometer!

This troper once had to make a holiday video on Windows Movie Maker for her family. She spent so much time on it that she would look at real life and think "Hmm, I don't need that section, I'll just rewind and cut it..."

As someone who regularly plays {{RPG}}s of every sort, I've lately been trying to optimize myself to a ridiculous point, leading to strange attempts to gain stat bonuses from every little thing I do. Suffice to say it doesn't work that way.

This troper has played several games for several hours straight. Also, working several days in a row has the same effect on him (working at the drive-through): my mind just can't keep from taking orders in my sleep.

Ever since I first played ''{{Lemmings}}'' as a kid, I've always imagined Lemmings marching over ''everything.'' Building stairs over bookcases, floating down from rooftops with umbrellas, digging through school desks, and so on.

Did you know that prolonged exposure to Lemmings may induce auditory hallucinations? It's rather disconcerting to hear the distinct sound effect of a Lemming going splat when you are ''not actually playing the game''.

Word of advice: ''never'' play KatamariDamacy and {{Scribblenauts}} at the same time. "Hmmm... Let me write in a few cats so I can add a couple of meters..." "How is Katamari not an understood word?!"

Two words: Garry's Mod. This Troper finds herself wanting to pose people in ridiculous fashions and put thrusters on wheeled chairs. Plus, noclip just to get around easily and see things she's never seen before about the world.

I swear, my next-door neighbor sounds just like Ganondorf when he laughs. I was in another room when he began laughing, and I nearly jumped out of my skin!

I was in a clothing store one day, when I heard the most awful noise. I slowly turned around to see a mentally disabled man standing at the front counter, and the moaning and groaning sounds he was making, sounded exactly like those of a Redead from ''TheLegendOfZelda''. I was so creeped out that I just got the hell out of there!

Once, I was touring a ruined castle in Italy, when I looked up to see a security camera ''exactly'' like the ones in ''{{Goldeneye 007}}'', pointed straight at me! I immediately froze, and for a moment, my only thought was, "Crap! Where's my gun!?", before remembering that I wasn't actually in the game.

Left 4 Dead + Car alarm = internal panic mode

This Troper constantly sees tetriminos (the little shapes from Tetris) in floor tiles and insists on walking on them in those patterns. He also played the original Tetris and its sequels on 3.25" floppies he obtained at a thrift store.

Not a video game per se, but there have been times when in RealLife I've had the sudden urge to hit "Save" before doing something, or to want to reload what just happened - or even, more commonly, to have the urge to take a Screenshot.

Happened to this troper when she first got her copy of Final Fantasy X. Ended up playing for twelve hours the first day. When she eventually stopped to sleep, her mind was filled with the battle screen and the tiny whirs of a action being selected. It didn't go away even when she would only play for three hours. It helped her remember the times this happened as a girl when she first got her NES and when she slept, she could swear she could hear someone playing Donkey Kong out in the living room. Oh, and I keep having to stop myself from potholing in other sites.

This Troper has played so much Team Fortress 2 that he can have entire conversations using lines from the game, in the respective character's voices. HELP ME PLEASE.

Left4Dead for This Tropette. I didn't think I was going to like it, but my friend wanted to play it, so I reluctantly agreed. Hours and hours later, I can no longer look at people in hoodies without freaking out.

@/{{Abrulz}} refound Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, and started hearing things. I was hearing the music of the game. Specifically, this. It was both cool and freaky at the same time.

@/Chabal2 was reading a very strange webcomic, the plot of which escapes him, but it involved something called "Jakolovs" and then tried going to the TvTropes page for it. Upon noticing it was very short, he... woke up. Yes, apparently I invent entire webcomics ''and their corresponding TvTropes articles'' in my sleep. What is wrong with me...

@/CrystalSuicune has this with Zoo frickin' Keeper. One day she's staring at some notices stuck on a notice board, some with the same colour. She found herself mentally swapping notices and clearing them. Something is wrong with me...

@/BlackWolfe has had the aforementioned {{Portal}} problem, the floating Tetris tetraminoes, and, most disturbingly, found himself veering towards a parked police car because walking to the bus stop was taking too long.

When I got Lego StarWars, I spent that night playing it, or about 2 hours. The next day? I spent all ''but'' 2 hours just on that game.

This troper has an extremely bad habit of getting supremely obsessed with any videogame she ever gets a chance to play (even Catz... by Ubisoft). Currently she is obsessively re-playing Animal Crossing (second time with this obsession) and it got so bad that I'd refer to my Animal Crossing neighbors like actual people.

This troper finds it hard to believe the Yakuza series has yet to be mentioned! In her honest opinion, she feels more prone to acts of violence after playing it than any GTA games. She still gets apprehensive every time she hears someone say "hey you!".

It's the SilentHill series for this troper. Whenever she spots a rundown building on her way home, she swears she entered Nightmare Mode. She has frequent dreams with Pyramid Head in them too. Not to mention playing too much Silent Hill 1 makes her speech choppy an {{Narm}}y without her realizing!

Don't ever travel to the American northeast, then. This Troper had to travel to Ronkonkoma, New York for job-related reasons and the older parts of the town are HighOctaneNightmareFuel...and I haven't even ''played the games yet''.

When this troper first got Plants Vs Zombies, she played over the weekend for hours straight until she finished it the first time through, then played it some more over the course of a week or so. During that time, she often imagined herself collecting the sun that popped out from the sunflowers in game as she tried to sleep.

Goodness, that game is "so" addictive. This troper spontaneously inserts [=PvZ=] references (commonly 'Peashooter plants') in normal conversation. Not that I'm alone - half of my college batch are [=PvZ=] addicts, treating it as a temporary relief from stress.

You know you've played too much PVZ if you habitually flinch every time you hear ''Pop Goes the Zombie]] Weasel''.

One more Romulan mission and I'll hit Liutenant Commander 9! Oh, hey, what happened to the weekend? It's 2:45 and I have to be up in three hours for work? Oh, so that gurgling was my belly... whoops. Hearing the battle music while doing paperwork makes it feel a little more epic, though.

After a quick skim through this, I'm surprised that Super Collapse 3 isn't on here. I played that game so much a few years ago that it got the point that every time i closed my eyes i could see it. I almost beat it too, but deleted it when i thought that it would help keep my computer from giving me the blue screen of death (it didn't).

More TeamFortress2 fun times - given that the maps are inspired by 1960s Americana, seeing old industrial buildings and abandoned train yards evoke immature thoughts of RED and BLU doing battle in the dead of night, when everyone else is asleep. Also, this is a real bar in Boca Raton.

When listening to Mother 3 music, this troper finds himself doing things to the beat of that song. Even Serious and Strong One. He also can't look at a mushroom without thinking of Tanetane Island.

@/PentiumMMX2 was like this over DiddyKongRacing. He played it to death; having fun with the races, trying hard to beat the bosses, and just exploring Timber's Island in hopes of finding some new secret. It got to the point that I'd dream about finding secret areas of the game or finding, and challenging, a BonusBoss. In fact, when we where staying at a hotel during a family vacation, when my dad mentions going down to the lobby to get some donuts, I immedietely though about Snowflake Mountain (Still my favorite lobby in the game).

This troper once played {{Ikaruga}} for multiple hours, and then saw complex patterns of blue and red dots whenever he closed his eyes for the rest of the day. LEFT! RIGHT! SWITCH!

This troper is so susceptible to TheTetrisEffect that she's honestly had it with '''sudoku'''. This troper got so addicted to insane difficulty samurai sudoku that she was thinking about tactics of how to solve the puzzles in her sleep, which meant that said tactics really made no sense as the sleeping brain is really bad at keeping track of numbers. But, still, you know it's bad when you can't even get numbers and a grid out of your head.

For this troper it has always been Tenchu. Is it only an average game? with most other games having far better graphics and gameplay? Yes. Doesn't mean I haven't started looking at security installations and thinking....how am I going to stealth kill everyone without getting seen by those civies?

This morning, this troper found himself rotating the polkadots of the shower curtain in his mind to make threes.

For this noclip-loving troper, I've more than once caught myself staring out at the large sky and rolling hills beyond my backyard and imagining "flying" toward them, only to find them 2 dimensional.

This troper experienced this shortly after first getting into playing pool (English, not American). I was very tired and watching a film with a friend; I started having microsleeps - passing out for a second or less and dreaming when I did. Everytime I blinked, I was lining up a shot.

After playing ''HeavyRain'' for a prolonged period of time, I started seeing little QTE boxes everywhere. Please help me X, O, [], R2, shake controller...

Also ''{{Disgaea}}'' for me. I had just finished college, and with my newfound free time, I played eight hours straight. Upon trying to go to sleep for the next three days, all I could see was the ground exploding in various colors. THE GROUND WAS EXPLODING COLORS!!

SSX: Tricky. Ever try to pre-wind an uber-trick while driving over a hill?

This Tropette has plenty of stories, but will only add one. She's currently addicted to {{TeamFortress2}} and has about 120 hours on it, at the time of writing. (Which pales in comparison to some other tales) A recent dream involved the not-yet-released "Meet the Medic". The video was madness, personal crack theories, and a Sandvich-Ubersaw hybrid, all in one.

After a weekend-long binge on Left 4 Dead, car alarms make me run for cover. So does crying, people smoking and people wearing hoodies. Same effect with Mirror's Edge: I look at buildings and see if there's an easy way to get to the roof via pipes, adjacent buildings, etc.

Oh, ''{{Thief}}''. After finishing it, this troper instictively avoided bright places and always tried to "stay in the shadows, avoid the light.", just as the tutorial told him.

Borderland had boxes with green light and vending machines as shops. So next day at school I had feel to open printers and computers with green lights and shop with Coca Cola vending machine.

This troper played through {{MirrorsEdge}} in 2 days, and after that often found himself looking for ways to get onto some ledge or rooftop.

This troper was trapped in a hospital with other people (his students and coteachers) during the September 2009 "Ondoy" flood in Manila, Philippines. Most of the time was spent on looking outside the window, and seeing a particularly large man being helped into a second-floor window, thought immediately of the Boomer from Left 4 Dead.

This troper could not get past a level in Yoshi's Island DS, and began to not only dream about it, but also suffered "black outs" where I just stopped listening to everybody else in order to think about the games. It was hard for me to look at eggs for a while after that.

Another Left 4 Dead Example, this troper has been shot with a nerf gun once while smoking around two friends who also played the game. She didn't take it well. To quote his brother: "Bobby has startled the Witch."

Sometimes, when this troper is walking down the street, he sees the HUD from Halo 2 and imagines he has a Plasma Rifle. Also, when I hear anything heavy metal or hard rock, I start to air-Guitar Hero to the song. AND, because he absolutely loves Dragon Ball (no Z) and anything DB, he can perfectly do the kamehameha!

At one point in my adolescence, I was trying to lose weight by Sweatin' to the Oldies. I also played Tetris a lot during this same time period. Even my dreams were about one or the other...until one night the tetrominos started sweatin' to the oldies. Then I knew it was time to cut back.

I'm not sure if this counts, but after spending a lot of time on Skype, I keep thinking that someone's replied to something I said when I hear a similar noise in a song or something, even if I'm not logged in at the time.

When I find something I've been looking for, my first instinct is to hold it over my head and hum the ''Main/LegendOfZelda'' Item Get Fanfare. It's a lot of fun when this happens at the office.

Once, after spending a few hours watching a walk-trough of Left4Dead 2's Dead Center level, I went to a mall. Upon seeing a car that was on display there, my fist thought was to drive to New Orleans with it.

This troper's mother is addicted to the Zelda games. Apperantly, shortly after we got ''Twilight Princess'', she had a dream where she was walking through a redwood forest... and there were heart icons.

This Troper made the mistake of playing Left 4 dead/Resident Evil/Dead Rising/Zombie Games in general in conjunction with Pokemon. Now he keeps having nightmares about the Pokemon zombie apocalypse. Incidentally, he's writing a fanfic about the scenario.

Also, I happen to live on 10 acres of fields, hills, and woods, along with a small river nearby. I swear to god, this is my Route 1. I swore I saw two baby tailows the other day, and had to get my puppy, who I named Eevee, to keep away from them...Swellows will be a useful addition to my te-...oh, wait.

This troper tends to mentally narrate the keystrokes or menu paths when playing an RPG. This begins to spill over into the real world, where she silently chants 'Menu-Inventory' when pulling out her wallet. This also happened after playing the beta for Aion; every time she saw a place that would be great to fly to she would think 'Page Up' or upon seeing a good hill or stairs to glide down think 'Space-Space.'

Tropers/TheNoun has found herself constantly humming the ending theme to ''PerfectDark''. It's also the only game she's touched in about two weeks.

This troper has been playing {{Persona 3}} for a while now. He is starting imagine his social links leveling up after conversations.

Beating Chronotron in a single sitting, coupled with a heaping dose of sleep deprivation, caused not only a massive headache for This Troper, but a textbook example of TheTetrisEffect. Every time I entered a room, I carefully considered each action to make sure I wouldn't accidentally cause a paradox after traveling back in time to when I entered the room.

This Troper, due to playing Torchlight and similar games, instinctively arranges groceries in a manner that maximizes how many items I can have on the converter belt at once, to make sure his inventory never gets full without warning.

After a marathon session of Left4Dead, this Troper was leaving the movie theater with some friends. A drunk girl in the parking lot screamed, and my head whipped around to look at the sound while I went for my gun to defend myself from the "hunter." Then I realized that, not only were there no infected, I also don't own any firearms. My friends, of course, were all laughing their asses off at me.

While he never felt a need to steal cars, this troper, after playing a marathon GTA IV found himself crossing wide streets quite dangerously before realizing what he was doing. Thankfully any injury was avoided, though some motorists were quite pissed judging from the number of horns tooting.

Tropers/DragonHawk remembers when {{Doom}} came out, and the subsequent marathon gaming sessions. I would feel the urge to strafe sideways around corners instead of just walking normally. Me and my friends began critiquing the school's architecture with regards to how good a Doom map it would make.

Guys. Help. I've been playing ''Pokemon Trozei!'' for several hours, and now I'm trying to figure out how to trozei the words in TV Tropes articles.

This troper, though she hasn't even TOUCHED Assassin's Creed 2 in months, is still looking at different buildings and structures, even her own ''school'', and seeing how she can climb up onto the rooftops! And climbed a tree using the same methods Ezio does for getting onto the roofs. Damn you, [=AC2=].

Games themselves tend to have this effect on me big time. After playing a game for a while, this troper will start to ''act'' like the characters she's been playing! For example, she's gained the tendency to wave people off and not really care about them from Luke fon Fabre of Tales of the Abyss. And being a slight jerk while she's at it! And, as embarrassing as it is to admit, she picks up sticks and pretends she's Link from Legend of Zelda...

Several minor examples: After playing {{Summon Night}}: Twin Age constantly for a few days, especially after staying up until at least midnight trying to beat it, kyonko saw little characters in the sprite style of the game running around with little green HP bars above their heads whenever she closed her eyes or looked at something dark. She got better, though. Also, after reading a book written by Nisiosin (admittedly, the only two she's read are Another Note and Zaregoto: The Kubikiri Cycle, but still) she begins thinking in his writing style. She also begins to refer to herself in third person in her mind with "This Troper", after reading a whole lot of {{TroperTales}}.

I received a temporary Tetris Effect after quiting Tamagotchi after ''two'' days. The night I had my mom unscrew it, I had visions that it was in my hands. It was that creepy.

This Troper, who happens to be a doctor, became obsessed with minor details and bizarre diagnoses after watching 4 seasons of House back to back over about a 2 weeks. Luckily she managed to restrain herself enough so as not to prescribe dangerous treatments or tests simply to 'solve the puzzle'.

AHEM. Nintendo's DSiWare Art Style Games are EVIL! For 500 DSi Points ($5) each, you can get one of eight or so highly addictive original-concept puzzle games, each of which use minimalist graphics and are based around addictive gameplay.

Pictobits: You try to clear multicolored "megabits", which may contain "permabits", by making 4-or-longer color strings And/Or 2x2 or larger rectangles of single colors, by picking up and dropping bits in sequence. as you clear the megabits and combo, every bit you clear in each megabit becomes one fraction of a pixel of that color, times your combo, on the top screen. The level ends when you finish drawing out a classic 8-bit sprite, or if bits near the top are stopping permabits from dropping.

BoxLife: In an art style best described as Habbo Hotel meets Q*Bert, you cut, reattach, and fold small paper squares arranged in either random or predesigned "[puzzle" shapes in order to make as many 1x1x1 boxes possible, or clear all the squares, respectively between game modes.

Oh, and the music is [=INsANE=]!

The latest ProfessorLayton game has this troper looking at his surroundings, thinking "That ________ looks like it would have a Hint Coin in it..." while looking at nearly anything, whether it's a lamp post or a bucket.

I have had a few things like that happening from too much gaming, or just generally going on the internet too much

Doing something wrong, and then going to press the undo button, but of course, its not there, cause it is real life.

Writing my username on my school work instead of my name, then feeling embarassed and crossing it out

Once, a member of this tropers family was staying at a hotel close to where she was playing in a concert and there was a broken space invaders machine in the lobby: you didn't have to put money in to play. After spending several hours playing it she started dreaming about space invaders, doodled them every where and started seeing her MUSIC mover like the space invaders (with the space invaders music playing softly in the background).

This Troper had been playing Minecraft. He had been playing Minecraft a lot. He had been playing Minecraft a WHOLE lot. In fact, when I saw some junk TV ad about the world running out of coal, I thought, "Just walk around a little, the world'll generate more."

This troper played minecraft for 6 hours straigh almost every day for a week...I started seeing my desk and backyard in isometric cubes...seriously thought of harvesting some wood from my desk...

This Troper has experienced this with mushroom hunting. Eventually, as you walk along, anything coloured or shaped like a mushroom makes you bend down to have a look automatically. Shutting your eyes makes you see mushrooms growing out of grass. Considering the type of mushroom I was hunting, this did not get any better after eating them. Tetris effect plus hallucinogens is a powerful combination.

Tropers/{{Reflextion}} has, after spending extended amounts of time playing the ''EtrianOdyssey'' games, started mentally marking map lines and tiles ''everywhere''.

I bought the PS3 game {{Flower}} recently, and on the first night played it for hours on end. I've since learned to cut down after still seeing a stream of petals swooping around in my mind every time I closed my eyes.

And seeing the petals and the breeze is a bad thing? That game is so damn beautiful.

The troper has it bad for CNC 3 or Kane's Wrath. I can close my eyes and see bases after an hour of playing. But to make it even worse, I was spewing quotes while playing Halo: Reach I would start spewing unit quotes upon doing anything. Pick up rockets: "We've got the rockets!" "Rockets, right here!" Rocket hog: "More rockets!" Moving in on some Brutes: "Ambush em!" Grabbing a mongoose "This bike's ready" In the warthog: "Raider here!" I earned those dope slaps. I earned them.

This troper recently attended a high school football game. In the last quarter she began humming "The Final Countdown", a traditional song played by her high school band. This troper graduated four years ago...

After playing {{Roller Coaster Tycoon}} enough times, I sometimes find myself looking at a hillside or empty patch of land and imagining how it would look with a roller coaster built on it.

Silent Hill, Resident Evil 4 and DDR... Ugh... whenever I see fog, my first thought "SILENT HILL"; I've had dreams about leon, ashely and saddler, not to mention chanisaws make me shudder and I will dance to music that seems catchy; heck I'll imagine the step charts!!!!

This Troper once finally broke free from TvTropes somewhere around three AM (what a surprise) when her brain began to describe random pieces of furniture in the Troper Tone. They had related Tropes and everything!

This Troper was once trying to solve a Rubrik's cube for weeks. I was dreaming in twists and turns.

I once made a Sims 2 family of my real house, complete with pets and family members, including myself. The freaky part? The Sims acted like us. Down to spending odd hours online and eating Ramen. I kept glancing up in case I had a Green crystal above my head, and was thinking in queues for weeks.

This Troper has tried to use Ctrl+F in her textbooks.

When this Troper was younger, he went on a five-hour Warcraft III binge that lasted until three in the morning. I had to get up four hours later for school, and it took me at least an hour before I stopped trying to right-click an imaginary cursor to ''move myself across the room''.

I'm not sure if this counts or not, but I have a couple examples: One, when my friend and I had a {{House}} marathon, I couldn't sleep that night because every time I would close my eyes, I would see the diagnostics team trying to solve some sort of diagnostics mystery and it stressed me out trying to figure out what the patient was sick with! Another time, I had spent much time at orchestra rehearsals (as this troper is a musician) and when I tried to sleep, I kept thinking I was back at rehearsal and we were learning a new piece. I couldn't sleep very well because I kept waking up from the stress.

Were the diagnoses ever Lupus?

This lurker is prone to this to the point of ''absurdity''. When I first started my serious-mode-gameplay on FinalFantasyXII and spent four hours just experimenting with Gambits, I realised the next day that I was creating simple condition->action pairs from people's behaviour and trying to exploit them. Playing [=MGS3=] caused me to constantly analyse the surroundings for hiding places and weigh camo options (not to mention generally being more stealthy and feeling oddly attached to cardboard boxes) and Assassin's Creed had me slow down from full pelt to a slow trot to remain inconspicuous. ''All without noticing'' until someone pointed it out. And that's just the video games...

Recent additions: Looking around and up before walking into an area I don't know in fear of barnacles and jumping at the distinctly headcrab-y squeak my bag's shoulder holster makes. Instinct to either call for a MEDIC! or proclaim "NEED A DISPENSER HERE!" whenever I feel faint. (Also the inability to pronounce "right" as anything else than "roight".) Trying to draw circles in the sky to make the sun shine. Hearing a little jingle whenever I solve a difficult maths problem. Checking out routes up the sides of buildings. Seeing a Pyrokinesis indicator above the people who irritate me. Seriously, if I play a game, I'm bound to have ''something'' like this happen to me.

Once I played 50 games of spider solitare for no reason, laaatttee into the night, and I fell asleep with the cards burned into the back of my mind. It was weird, but I was actually started playing the imaginary game as I fell asleep.

I got this problem with tabletop {{RPG}}s. Things like thinking "My DM has a grudge against me", "I wanna have a talk whith that damn idjit who thought "unlucky", "friendless", "lazy", "RPG addict", "{{Cloud Cuckoolander}}", "depressive tendencies" and "To Suicide}} suicidal tendencies" were fair disadvantages to buy "Guardian spirit (Named Elodie Hiras)", "improvise", "Iron will", and "extreme weather conditions resistance", "Why everybody keeps giving me lame quests? I bet I don't even get XP for that!", "Whoooohooooo! Natural 20!", even as far as taking a karate course just in case I get thrown into a big mess like [=PCs=] (I've got enough weirdness in my background and {{Minmaxing}} to be one!)

This troper once, after a long weekend pokemon marathon, dreamed that he was both in the game (as the player character) and the one controlling the game. He kept trying to go into a certain cave but it wouldn't let him!

This tropette is an avid Left4Dead fan. While at school, she saw a dark blue hoodie; her mind instantly screamed 'HUNTER!'. In a later incident, she was rebuilding a shed with her parents and had just picked up a hoe to put away. When she held it by her side, the handle was the perfect length for her to both carry and swing, not too heavy but definitely sturdy, with the blade being pointy on one side and shovel-like on the other. All she could think (and even told her mum) was, "This would be perfect for getting a zombie with."

Tropers/ARandomSerf has managed to use his D&D-themed Tetris Effect powers for good on occasion. For instance, a couple friends of mine were talking about social differences between the sexes, but he wasn't getting her point until I chimed in with, "She's saying that women get a +2 bonus to Sense Motive checks."

On a cold, rainy, windy night, I heard a helicopter flying around outside. I went out to see why it was doing so and saw it scanning the forest with its searchlight. This triggered my instincts from years of playing GTA and Modern Warfare, which caused me to hide from the chopper, waiting for it to see me and attack (leaving me helpless without an RPG).

After playing VideoGame/DeBlob until 3:00 am one summer night, This Troper walked back upstairs to go to bed, saw the white walls of the living room, and thought "Oh, an unpainted wall! Better smack into that!" Thankfully, I didn't go through with the plan.

I have had this happen with the game I am working on. Nothing more disconcerting that a small, doll sized deity of balance who has the appearance of a doll like 5-7 year old berating you for not doing your homework... And then promptly throwing a fit, causing you to want to console her before her powers go off. At least, I hope this counts as TheTetrisEffect. I REALLY hope it does. Otherwise, I am going insane.

I had a BAD case of this after playing Prawn to Be Wild. I mean, talked and laughed like Insanity Prawn Boy for WEEKS, and started looking for hidden innuendos in EVERYTHING. And even now, it's hard not to randomly shout "ANUUUUS!!!" as a way of greeting.

Inverted. While playing Modern Warfare 2 this troper felt specially compelled to inmediately follow Foley's increasingly demanding (and suicidal) instructions. Why? Because my last name is Ramirez, that's why. I could literally hear the guy really ordering me to take out the helicopter with my throwing knife.

A few years ago, when I decided to quit Tamagotchi after two nights, I could see it in my hands that night. Really, it was that creepy.

You posted this exact thing up earlier. Yes, I've been going through ''this whole thing'' for awhile now. I'm expecting to suffer from TheTetrisEffect from the ''Troper Tales of The Tetris Effect'' by the end, even when I skip the many things I'm not familiar with! Also, this thing needs to be more organized. There are a bajillion different entries for Left for Dead/Final Fantasy/The Legend of Zelda/Team Fortress 2/TV Tropes/WHATEVER and MANY of them are way far apart. ''AAAAAARRRRGH''.

I finished playing a Jenga-style multiplayer game of ''BoomBlox'', and came on the Internet. The words almost seemed to teeter perilously.

My dad once played so much Bejeweled Twist he told me he was starting to mentally try and match up the words in his book.

Upon hearing the story of some miners trapped in a mine, this troper immediately thought "CRAP! Do they have a light source?"

For This Troper (no contributor page yet) it's RepublicCommando. After my first playthrough I started seeing HUD indicators for sniper, anti-armor, and grenade positions everywhere I went. At one point I actually tried waving Sev up to a sniper position on my way to lunch at school. I caught a bunch of weird sideways looks.

Recently, I have been frequently trying to change channels when all the library computers are taken.

Non video game example: Back during my high school Geometry class, I would wake up with equations behind my eyelids.

Similar to the troper's story above, thanks to my Geometry class, I think in two column proofs.

After playing the last ProfessorLayton game, this troper could swear that every object or building reminds her of a puzzle.

This Troper had one of the trippiest dreams ever. Tetris, Bejeweled and Sudoku all amalgamated in my mind and made me play one of the most confusing games ever. I can also distinctly remember another time where my character was Jewelcrafting in WorldOfWarcraft by playing some sort of Bejeweled minigame. It was fantastic.

This Troper first became aware of this trope's existence when, after playing the original SpyroTheDragon game, visited a hotel and began attempting to figure out in his head whether he'd be able to make it to the top of the building across the way as Spyro. Fortunately, he did not suffer from any sort of cape delusions that he actually could glide.

He also had an incident where, after a week of blocked rehearsals for FiddlerOnTheRoof with particularly bland choreography, he woke up to discover he'd been doing grapevines in his sleep and his legs were tangled in the sheets.

Non-gaming example: Some ham radio operators report having dreams where conversation is in Morse code.

After playing Cursed Treasure for extended periods, this troper starts seeing its tower-is-upgradeable symbols everywhere. Most surreal: trying to meditate on the Third Glorious Mystery, and being unable not to visualize the tongues of flame as flashing green "UP"s.

When this troper closes his eyes, he sees crypts and dens labelled "UP" (not the temples, strangely enough) or the tower-purchasing section of the screen.

I've started doing jigsaws, and now I always see the shapes in my head

I spent last year studying abroad as part of my degree, meaning I wasn't able to train for my university's ski racing team, which I'd been doing for the previous two years. I got such bad withdrawal from it, I would find myself walking a racing line round corners, clipping walls with my forearm as though clearing gates

The night after this Troper first saw Avatar(a movie that could easily induce this in its own right) my friend and I played a four hour Left 4 Dead marathon, finally passing out at around three in the morning. Dreaming that night was an interesting affair as it combinied glowy forests, with zombies, and had us riding Ikran's. That was one interesting dream.

This troper had the same thing happen to her with regards to solitaire (you know the computer version?) She would close her eyes at night and try to put the black jack on the red queen. It took her a long time to go to actual sleep.

This troper has had this with games you'd reasonably expect, like {{Lumines}}. Strangely enough though, the DS remake of SaGa3 had him hallucinating pop-ups that told him which of his stats increased when he was doing certain actions in RealLife.

I notice Pokeball and Triforce shapes in places where they probably aren't intended(or are they?) I've also looked up at the starry sky, and found 2-3 Tetris block "constellations".

This troper now has an odd fear of rabbit masks after a 12-hour Bioshock binge, and finds himself trying to equte prices on items to how many bottlecaps he has.

Also, in a non-gaming example, this troper is an actor by trade, and finds himself quotiong the show and speaking like his character (among other things) during the show, and a few weeks after we close.

Thanks to 3D visualizers for DwarfFortress, whenever I look at impressive buildings, I tend to think how I would rebuild them, where I would station the archers, which entrance would be guarded and where I would put magma falls to make them even more awesome. Which is weird, considering I never bothered with military in Dwarf Fortress and magma was always a bit too dangerous for me to handle. I guess it's because I browse the Bay12 Forums way too much.

This Troper has the MetalGearSolid Alert/! noise as his text alert. True to the Awkward Zombie strip, it still makes me jump, although it hasn't got to the point where I start hiding under things yet.

You know how Halo3 and HaloReach have the theatre function, and you can fly in and zoom in on things far away? I once, probably a few weeks after I first got it, went to a concert directly after a night of using the shit out of Theatre. I saw something in the distance, but my eyesight is crap, so, still thinking I was in Theatre, I tried to zoom in. Yeah, it didn't work.

Also, if I watch even 5 minutes of Doctor Who, the monologue/narrator voice in my head sounds British. Worse still if I've watched several ''episodes,'' then there's British accenst everywhere, sometimes with the occasional completely random ''French'' accents. Wtf?!

After a few hours of ''BioShock'' I could not make myself get up and walk down the dark hallway to another room... I figured there was some creepy doctor or a lunatic with a metal pipe waiting to bash my skull in.

For the next few days the "hacking" background noise would play in my head when I would be trying to figure something out and I would imagine the "Plasmid get!" sound when I completed something...

Though it's not a video game, it's the exact same effect; I have a habit of marathoning {{Bobobobo bobobo}} every half a year or so, and for ''weeks'' afterwards go about my daily business wondering why everything is so ''calm''.

This troper finds himself saying "Cartrige Load" every time he has either to keep himself going, or when in trouble, ever since a certain weekend when he spent all of his time watching "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha" nonstop

Recently, every time I say "Wonderful" I end up saying the German equivalint "Wunderbar" because I play as Richtofen alot on Nazi Zombies.

This troper loves guns, plays a lot of First Person Shooters, watches a lot of action movies, owned several airsoft/BB guns, and recently went to a gun range to fire a real gun. Now, he ends up finding himself making gun firing/reloading motions for no reason (it's so bad that friends have noticed and commented on it).

After playing emulators where you can save state and go back to fix something you screwed up on for so long, playing a real game makes you reach for the load state key... only it doesn't exist. >_o

After years of soccer on TV, this troper went to a stadium for the first time and couldn't but wait for the slow-mo replay after the goals.

After playing or reading just about anything for way too long, this troper actually catches himself thinking as the dialogue from that game is presented. For example, it's no longer, "''There's'' my toothbrush," it's "{{Insert Name Here}} obtained TOOTHBRUSH!"

This troper has a tendency, when she's been playing {{MARDEK}} for hours, to start seeing everything in terms of their elements.

This troper takes it a step further, with school subjects being various types of magic (IE biology = Earth support magic, Chemistry = Fire, Physics = Earth and water offensive magic (logic), Music = mostly Air (both for "creativity" and the fact that wind instruments need it) and so on) in addition to the above. This is also more {{Fig Hunter}} related, as this troper has also thought of people in terms of the four temperaments, and once labeled himself in a personality sheet as an alignment (namely, Lawful Good). This troper also tried to "smite evil" in {{Minecraft}} with "the sword of righteousness", has tacked on "maybe?" and "perhaps?" in real life (Being phlegmatic and {{TheQuietOne}} really helps in this regard), and has a tendency to go on tangents and ramble on endlessly when he does talk... like now!!1!

For two years I worked as a cashier at a grocery store. While most everyone else just sent the scanned items down the belt with little regard to crushing items, I used TheTetrisEffect as an ''art''. Years of video games let me, with precision and no wasted movement; turn off the belt, scan the item, arrange them on the other side with no space between with one arm while grabbing the next item with the other, moved the belt down a little farther, and repeat. My speed and precision was the stuff of grocer ''legends''. When you were in my line and you went to the other end to bag, god dammit there would be a congruent mass of arranged groceries waiting at the end of the line with not a single item out of shape. Times when I had to work on belts without the stop feature or when people would go to bag while I was still checking things out would utterly break my pride because it meant my perfect conveyor belt was '''''ruined'''''.

Just Cause 2 is a particularly special case; in that game, you need to cause a lot of collateral damage. The radio towers you can destroy en masse look very similar to actual radio towers, even matching the color scheme for some cities. When this troper saw a radio tower like this on the highway, he tried to shoot it. While driving. Without a gun.

This troper spent a couple hours playing Froggy Jump while watching a family member playing PlantsVsZombies. Both of these are Tetris Effect-inducing enough on their own, but together I ended up with a weird combination of the two running through my head - basically Froggy Jump with plants trying to kill you along the way.

In one of This troper's friend's own words: "I knew I was playing too much Fallout 3 when I stepped into a puddle one day and immediately looked for my rad counter."

Not with a game, but still has taken over this troper's life: The Twitter App. This troper realized she was hooked, when she saw a foreign language advertisement on the street, and immediately raised her hand to swipe it with her finger for the "Translate" option.

Another non-video game example; the first time this troper watched ''DasBoot'' on 2-disk DVD as opposed to VHS, he got up to change disks (right after the first destroyer attack). His first thought was to be careful not to bang his head on the periscope. He also routinely wonders why people are speaking un-subtitled English dialogue after watching it.

I, a Troper and aspiring novelist, actually ''use this trope'' to help me out with writing required scenes. Need a good fight scene (which happens often in my book)? I watch ''{{Tekken}}'' in arcades until I could practically see fighters in my head. Need more generic action plus magic scenes? I watch MagicalGirl series (preferably Nanoha), complete with CallingYourAttacks. Romance? I watch shoujo anime.

On a more regular, non-writing example, I had some:

I couldn't sleep well for about a week back in my elementary days after seeing my first Hunter.

I tend to randomly yell out "OBJECTION!" whenever I'm alone.

I daydream of various girls from the shoujo shows I've been watching. Case in point: Yuumi Hoshino in a bikini.

This Troper has always had problems with YumeNikki. She can't turn off the lights if the room will be completely dark, because OH DEAR GOD UBOA WILL GET ME. She also often dreams of it, even if she hasn't played for a while.

This Troper had a really strange dream from a combination of PacMan, Kirby Canvas Curse and a nice and fluffy blanket. He dreamt that he was riding said blanket like Kirby rides a star, all the meanwhile looking like Kirby and gobbling up PacMan ghosts with his blanket. Also, after having spent a ton of coins on NBAJam, the announcer's quotes have remained firmly rooted in his head. To the point that whenever he hears someone uttering the words "From the Outside", he almost instinctively replies with "No Good!"

Once, I had a dream that played just like a videogame. Specificially, a 3D platformer somewhat similar to VideoGame/SuperMario64, which I believe I had played a lot shortly beofre the dream. I never saw myself, just the whole game and areas from a first-person perspective(I remember being inside a castle, a grassy field with some flowers, a snowy area and some dark cave with a yellow ladder leading down to it). That dream was fun.

The weirder dream, however... I was playing Zero Wing, only that it wasn't really Zero Wing but rather something the dream made up(I've never played the game). It started as a space shooter, where I had to shoot what looked like a bathtub off some spaceship. After that, it turned into a 3D platformer where you had to defeat bosses one after one. CATS was the 4th one, and we had to row a small boat to him to fight him, he was standing on a platform in the middle of the sea. Even though the rest of the game was 3D, he, and the other bosses was a small, pixel-ish sprite. After I had defeated the bosses, I could go into some school and visit them. Everyone was a big, 2D sprite/drawing, and everyone looked like themselves... except CATS, who for some reason looked like a normal person. He had brown hair straight down, no eyepatch, a Caucasian skin tone(as opposed to his greenish one) and I think he had glasses too. After a while, I went from the player in the game to the person playing the game... on a computer, actually. Shortly after, I turned off the computer and walked out of the room... Also, several of my dreams after that included CATS or "All your base are belong to us".

I also had something related to Tetris... while looking up in the starry sky, I saw ''Tetris block constellations''.

When This Troper's nation's queen visited his university to officially open it, he couldn't help but notice, as she was 20 feet below him, some 8 feet from a ledge he could reach in about 8 seconds running, and with only an taser-armed security guard ten feet away from him in another direction, that this was perfect for an assassination attempt.

Halo:Reach. I felt like I should use my jet pack to get my football off the roof. 5 minutes later, I snuck up on my sister and tried to hold down the melee button to perform an assassination. 30 seconds later , I finally realized I need a break from that game.

Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts. That game will make you wish you had a magical notepad that can spawn anything. Need to get past the school bully? Try to spawn a shrink ray out of nowhere, but figure out you can't.

This troper played a lot of ''The Sims 2'' for a while, and soon found herself trying to speed up time in the real world by pressing an imaginary 3 button.

After an afternoon of Kuru Kuru Kururin, this troper forgot that he could walk through small gaps without danger of hitting the sides with his propellers.

My neighbours had a garage sale, and all I could think was "Those golf clubs would make perfect melee weapons!". Also, I find myself looking for the best routes up buildings, and wondering if thinks like eavestroughs will hold my weight long enoughfor me to reach the window frame and subsequently the roof.

I don't know if this counts, but after studying intensely for a maths test, I went to bed and dreamt about maths. There was a formula where the letter T was especially meaningful and was equal to the number 29 divided by something else, squared-rooted, etc

This Troper sees video games EVERYWHERE. Among other things, he points out instances of Tetris-shaped objects.

This troper has two examples:

I love to play ''GranTurismo'', and when riding a bicycle to school, I often try to take the correct racing line and hit the apex of corners.

I played ''{{Driver}} 2'' a lot in late 2009. As a result, I once tried to press Start and choose "View Map" in real life.

This Troper had one occasion where (after a particular misfortune) he found himself frantically searching for 'The Reset Button' in real life. He had just realized that he hadn't saved yet, and could thus load the old file before said misfortune occurred. He was rather horrified when he realized there wasn't one. He also dreams in the third person (like in Final Fantasy) and occasionally has a pause menu in his dreams.

I too have recently tried to 'save' before I went outside in case I messed something up.

Tropers/VmKid has a weird habit of expecting to open a door, hear the phrase "Hey, wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world? EEERREERRGH!" and get shot at by UberKliener.

This Troper once played so much WipeOut Fusion that he could play through entire leagues in his head for at least a week after giving up playing it for his own sanity.

Recently, this Troper, after playing ''{{inFAMOUS}}'' for a few days, once saw a traffic light control box and felt a sudden urge to drain the power from it. The Troper has also envisioned moving around using {{Portal}}s, although a lack of recent playing of said game has subsided those urges lately...

This troper loved her sims so much that she caught herself searching for the Triple Fast Forward button in algebra at least twice.

This troper played San Andreas a LOT over a few days. He then went to Fry's to pick up some hardware, and when checking out, considered shooting the cashiers and stealing their money like he had in countless GTA restaurants.

Funnily enough, that's the exact problem the government had with the GTA series in the first place.

Watch out: if you play {{Touhou}} too much, you're definitely going to start trying to doge everything. You'll think that even the tiniest movements will allow you to stay safe - you know, just don't let them hit your hitbox.

This is especially dangerous/fun when playing dodgeball. You'll end up arguing that, since the ball didn't hit your hitbox, you're not out.

While it's not particularly video game related, this troper uses the "find" command on the computer so much that, when doing homework in text-books, he often tries to press Ctrl + F and he sees the Google Chrome "Find" box in the corner of his "screen" (line of sight).

I have had several instances of this. Once, after playing Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days, I was being cornered around a sofa by a friend (don't ask) and I thought, 'Well, I should be able to jump and then air slide over the sofa, then dodge roll to avoid her...' I then realised that A: I can't jump that high, B: Air sliding is slightly impossible, and C: I'd probably hurt myself if I tried to dodge roll. Another time I noticed small chariots, suspiciously like those in the Egyptian campaign of AoE Mythologies, making formations on the insides of my eyelids.

I've had this with both videogames and board games. After a few long sessions of {{Boggle}} with my sister, I found myself unable to sleep easily for the next several nights--I just kept thinking of Boggle layouts. I came up with an incredibly complicated one involving the word "flamingo", but unfortunately I can't remember the rest of the grid! More recently, I've been noticing this with Oblivion (every single time I see a brightly-colored flower or striking plant, I want to pick it) and Team Fortress 2 (I've begun to subconsciously analyze sports games--real-world ones, not videogame ones--in terms of a TF2 battle).

Oh oh OH! I almost forgot the worst offender: I have dreamed in ASCII due to too much {{Nethack}}. No joke. Colors and all (because real GUIs are for sissies).

The first time I went to sleep after working as a facepainter, I relived the entire day in my dreams. From coworkers to clients. And that still happens sometimes, though once I caught it by reality-checking on my tally sheet and going lucid. Yay reality checks.

God''damned'' Bejeweled. You know you've got problems when you start attempting to switch around the folders and applications on your computer desktop.

This troper has been playing Kingdom Hearts for the past few days. Once, while shopping, she heard the sound you get when you lock onto an enemy in the game (or maybe she just imagined it) - she immediately wanted to follow with an attack... before she realized she's not playing KH.

Tropers/{{Fishsicles}} is a variation; instead of seeing a video game everywhere, he sees ''computer programming'', usually in C++. Throw in some other talents and the result is equal parts awesome and impossible to follow.

Too much TeamFortress2 for me. I main Medic, so I hear Medic calls in my sleep, and flinch when I hear them in other games (even though I don't usually play a Medic in anything but TF2). I've also tried figuring out what surfaces I could potentially stick a {{Portal}} on (although this was after my first playthrough of {{Portal 2}}, where I played it nonstop), and everyone in a dark blue hoodie to me is a Hunter (Parents, as much as I love kids, stop letting them run in front of me out of nowhere wearing hoodies! ''Please.''). Anyone in a white hoodie, meanwhile, is Altair or Ezio.
