I talk about being a geek/nerd all the time and my best friend is also a geek/nerd (and in the oddest coincidence ever, was born two days before me, which is my parents' anniversary (they got married one year and two days before I was born), and my friend turned out to be a KodomoNoJikan fan as well, which is kind of obscure for two people to discover completely independently of each other while friends). I own over 100 games, have watched a ton of shows, can remember any episode of BuffyTheVampireSlayer with just a quick summery, has Bungie merch (as I just said), and more. Oh, and I write fanfic and am damn proud of it.

Yon Troper has read basically every fantasy novel on the face of the planet and also collects graphic novels, has eight emulators on his three computers (NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, N64, PS1, Dreamcast, Atari 2600), watched all the StarWars movies three times each, went to ComicCon once, watches ''{{Heroes}}'' religiously (and has cosplayed as Sylar), plays both D&D and MagicTheGathering equally religiously (ever since 2005), owns both an Xbox 360, a PS2 and a Wii (and once had a GameCube) with about 40 games for each, actually ''looks for'' glitches in said games and has played DwarfFortress for six hours, got straight A's last year, has an obscene prog-rock collection, got to beta test Red Faction Guerrilla, and edits Wikipedia. Add to this the fact that he hit Super Geek on the geek test with 49%, sometimes doesn't shower for a week, and has no dress sense (likes to wear tie-die T-shirts with blazers, and a tie around his forehead), and you've got one super geek. And I love my status as one.

This Troper, while not having the geek cred that many of the others on the page might, has many nerdy interests. He's an avid manga/anime fan, has played Pokemon since it was released in America, and has, on several occasions, tried to learn Sindarin. However, above all this, he is an out-spoken geek, and has more pride in his nerdiness than most. He occasionally gives HotBlooded speeches about his geekiness, and often encourages his (equally geeky) friends to take pride in their Geek nature. If there is a geek who enjoys being one more than him, he hasn't met that geek yet - and would really like to.

Miso is an unabashed nerd. She has recreated several ships on Sims 2, named all of her {{Mons}} in [=FireRed=] after rockstars and the ones in [=LeafGreen=] after the characters in {{Metalocalypse}}, and when in an uninteresting public place is usually playing Pokemon. She is also happy to be old- she's an Ozzy-era BlackSabbath fangirl, and the majority of her music is either European metal or rock from the 70s and 80s. She's also still a teenager, and not a legal adult. Her guitar teacher seemed surprised that she knew who half the guitarists he liked are/were.

While this troper also isn't as geeky as some other people on this page claim to be, she unabashedly will quote or reference random manga, anime, video games, movies, books and tropes at any given chance regardless of whether or not anyone else will get them. Just today, while picking her brother up from school, she waved to him like Yukari does in this video (no, she does not drive at all like Yukari). Through it all, he's damn proud of it.

True story: in Statistics class, This Troper was spotted rolling his D&D dice while frantically scribbling down numbers and then entering them into his scientific calculator. When the professor called him out on it, he said that he was "calculating whether the dice have gone bad or not". This troper can declare proudly that Nathan Fillion is his favourite actor, Brazil is his favourite movie, and his favourite novel is WorldWarZ. He has a firm belief that SuperMarioBros is the greatest game of all time due to it almost single handedly revitalizing the video game market. He is also familiar with video games history, and knows quite a bit from the NES era onwards. He can also talk excessivly about the Beatles, and has an ability to understand some concepts for more advanced than some college aged people would get a headache from. He would argue about how TheOtherWiki is not bad, despite that everybody around me is brainwashed against it. Um, guys? This is ''TVTropes''. This is the geekiest place of which This Troper is aware (single-focus areas like anime conventions don't count in her book). If you're ''not'' this, take this advice: sneak off the site quietly and no one will be the wiser. Anyway, 'proud' does not begin to describe ThisTroper. Nothing other than pride ever really occurs to her as a reaction to geekiness. She makes obscure references in full knowledge that there's not a Snowball's chance in a microwave oven that anyone will get them, and she gives high-fives for ones she can catch. She answers 'how are you?' with 'well, thank you' and she doesn't end sentences with prepositions! She may not be too sharp on geek culture, but darn if she doesn't have a geek's heart.

I spend almost all of my time on my computer, playing videogames, or playing Yu-gi-oh! with my friends. I own every single Nintendo system since the N64 in perfect working condition, plus a 360, Genesis and PS1, and at least 10 games for each. I own a copy of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt despite not owning an NES. I learned to read before the end of Kindergarten, all because of Pokemon. I grew up watching StarWars and Miyazaki movies, which I'm still a fan of today. I consider Mythbusters to be the only good television show that airs on North American TV today. I've lost track of a conversation because I was too busy thinking of how to insert anime references without derailing it. I've had a loud argument (in a crowded hallway) about the DoubleStandard of lolicon and shotacon that my friends have, with one of those friends, that eventually devolved into us yelling GurrenLagann and GGundam quotes at each other. I've watched more hours of anime than I've ever watched of TV. I consider plot and characterization to be more important than visuals or action in... anything, really. (I'm still the only person I know who thinks that Avatar sucks for these reasons.) I independently formed a belief that allows all fictional worlds to exist without making me sound ''too'' obsessed. I have over 800 songs from video games and over 150 songs from anime on the triPod (so called because it's my third one). I have had long and involved conversations about grammar. I'm learning Japanese almost entirely because I think the country's entertainment is far above ours's. I have spent several classes arguing with multiple English teachers about "singular they." I could go on for a while longer, but I think I've made my point.

This autistic troper (and yes, I was officially diagnosed as a baby, had to be mainstreamed into school, etc., so believe me when I tell you I'm not full of it) used to flaunt his nerd interests in high school, happily talking about - as if bragging about - his love of cartoons and video game music and such, and would actively be embarrassed about enjoying anything mainstream or "cool". Nowadays, he's mellowed out the nerd pride, and isn't as afraid to admit to enjoying some mainstream music and movies. (However, he'd rather be known for his interests in obscure films and in children's books). And of course, he has emulators for like every system (even PS2 and the arcade), and has his computer hooked up to his HDTV as well as his monitor in his bedroom, allowing him to play emulator games on his HDTV with a wireless controller. He's pretty proud of ''that'', of course. And, as of this writing, had just recently finished a ''RamonaQuimby'' marathon. It's possible to not be into sci-fi and high fantasy and still be a nerd, dammit!

I will proudly declare myself a Ben10 fan (despite ranting half the time about the series' decay) in public, and with all the trivia to back it up. This troper has a lot of personal examples, but here's the most convincing: my favorite song is called I'll Still Be A Geek After Nobody Thinks It's Chic. It's by indie artist MarianCall, and it appears on an album of Battlestar Galactica and Firefly fan music.

This Troper has been in the gifted program since the first grade, usually gets 20+ books from the library every time she goes, has just about memorized and can quote large passages from HarryPotter, wants to be either a geneticist, a linguist, or a world famous fantasy author, and skipped the seventh grade. I stopped caring (or never really cared, I can't quite remember) whether people called me a nerd or not in the fourth grade. My response was, "Yes, and your point is?", because "Nerd" only meant, "Smart" to me. Also, I do believe I can out-geek all of you. Let it be shown by the edit record, that I am the first person to start a Nerd Pride Club, which meets in the library of my hometown every Saturday. Or at least, it will, once we get an adult supervisor.

Octopodes is the plural one gets following the pattern of the Ancient Greek 3rd decl. and it predates octopi, which uses the Latin 2nd decl. And octopuses just sounds silly), using her knowledge of Latin noun declensions and Ancient Greek to prove her point, has spent her summer dabbling in the study of Old English, read Dante’s DivineComedy, Nabokov’s {{Lolita}} and Hugo’s Notre-Dame de Paris (AKA, TheHunchbackOfNotreDame, mais je l’ai lu en anglais, cependant) at the age of 14, can more than hold her own in discussions on a wide range of subjects including quantum physics, UK politics, Renaissance art, {{Firefly}}, genetics, choral music, Series/DoctorWho and sci-fi, can recite Shakespeare, use basic CSS and HTML, and to boot, reads fanfiction, watches anime, reads manga, {{xkcd}}, and adores Alan Moore’s graphic novels. Not to mention once getting a Physics teacher and several other students to sing Still Alive from {{Portal}} with her, completely by accident, in Venice, when on a school choir trip. Aged 15, happy to be such a nerd, and certain she’ll never boast to this degree ever again.

I have watched every 2005 series ep at least five times, my previous ringtone was the TARDIS, and I have a Who blog. I also own all the soundtracks and am listening to one right now. I have a crush on Amy Pond and a mancrush on DavidTennant. I quote Who constantly and go to my local bookstore to see if Doctor Who Magazine is on sale. If I see another Whovian, I will scream like a girl and talk about Who for hours. I'm a fanboy.

This troper, who can happily recite any line from HarryPotter without any real issue. Give me a line, I'll tell you what chapter and what book its from. Show me a picture from the title page, I'll tell you what chapter, what book, and whats going on exactly. I can recite mass sections of the books from memory, has dressed up as Hermione for three Halloweens, went to every midnight or early showing of the films that I could. I am a loud and proud Ravenclaw, having taken multiple sorting quizzes to prove it. When the Harry Potter Exhibit came to the Pacific Science Center, I was there, having a total {{Nerdgasm}} at everything, getting very teary-eyed. I cried when I finished the series because it was over, hand-crafted my own wooden wands for releases of the films and books, made scarves for all four Houses in their correct coloring (Ravenclaw's mascot is wrong in the films: its blue with a BRONZE EAGLE), got more people to read the books, and generally know more about the books than I do anything else. I have a multitude of copies but desire them in other languages. I even bought the special Anniversary edition of Sorcerer's Stone, and intend to get the DVD sets for the films once I get money. Bonus? Hermione and I share the same birthday.

This troper is a die-hard fan of the books of: Lord of the Rings and pretty much all the related works; Harry Potter; much of David Eddings' work (c'mon, guys, his stuff needs more love!); and is doing her damnedest to build my Terry Pratchett collection up past the mere 27 or so she has. She has the extended editions of all LOTR films and has watched every bit of the bonus features on all three to the point she can ''quote'' some of them, and has done so for her Pirates of the Caribbean [=DVDs=] as well. She has a map of Middle-earth on her living-room wall, along with a hand-drawn map for a world of her own invention that never got fully fleshed out, and keeps wooden weapons on her windowsill. One of her eighteenth birthday presents was a hand-made Black Arrow as used by Bard from The Hobbit, along with a presentation box, and she possesses a replica of the One Ring on a chain that's rarely not around her neck. She RPs daily with her friends online, keeps a book and her laptop by her bed to keep herself entertained, refers to herself as a geek and gets offended when people try to reassure her otherwise. She is a slightly obsessive Grammar Nazi and struggles to keep her mouth shut around written errors. She writes, reads, and on occasion corrects fanfiction, being a member of the ProtectorsOfThePlotContinuum and looking for a career in proofreading and editing. Her friends either write her stories around the characters they've invented together, or make her cool stuff (at this time, she owns a home-made knitted hat and handwarmers in Gryffindor colours and artwork of a group of her friend's characters, and is awaiting a knitted afghan blanket with squares involving a massive number of geeky references). She has a ''database'' to keep track of vital statistics for her original characters because she has so many. Her Geek Test score is 21.03321% - Geek, and she wants to get her hands on Firefly and Serenity [=DVDs=]. Yay geekiness!

While this Troper isn't completely as geeky as some of the other people here, she is a gamer(especially everything Nintendo, but other games are cool too), loves manga and cosplays and goes to cosplay conventions, loves and knows a lot about Internet memes(even with the more geeky people I hang with there are some that even they don't know of), is usually found in front of her computer, loves reading, makes up tons of original characters, and wears glasses. Half the student population of this troper's college are geeks, as well as almost the entire faculty. We kind of have to be. A good chunk of what we learn is based on media and the internet. (Inserted here) I work with computers full time, developing medical software and video games. I use Linux on my home computer. I design programming languages and compilers for fun, and code in Lisp (and occasionally pure lambda calculus) because I ''like'' it. I studied Japanese, Latin and Ancient Greek (and can still use the first two, albeit badly). If you call me a geek I will be bloody offended, because there's nothing I hate more than pop-culture references in casual conversation (TV Tropes is fun ''precisely'' because it's a private pastime), and that seems to be 90% of what self-defining geeks want to do.

I play guitar and sometimes I record songs (be they originals or covers) and post them on my Facebook. Some of these songs include the Pallet Town theme, the Flower Garden music from ''YoshisIsland'' (as well as the intro movie's music), the Pokemon Johto theme (with two-part harmony!), "Experimental Film", and a mashup of "Lady Madonna" and the Fever music from DrMario (technically, the ''SuperSmashBros Melee'' version). Additionally, I took some gameplay footage to put the music for the first two listed on top of, and in the Pokemon one I named the protagonist and rival (respectively) "MUSIC" and "LIVES" (for no real reason). Additionally additionally, a friend of mine and I did our own extemporaneous rendition of the ''PhineasAndFerb'' theme and a (more prepared) rendition of "Basket Case", at the end of which for the latter we break out into an impromptu rendition of "Stayin' Alive". Additionally, the (tiled) background of my Formspring is the Deep 13 logo, and I constantly make cultural references in my speech (especially Beatles references), even if people don't get them. ...It's really awkward to randomly say in the middle of a coversation "THERE IS NO WAR IN BA SING SE" and get crickets as a response../

An often complaint amongst a few of my friends is "GOOD GOD YOU'RE A GEEK." My usual response is "So?" Doesn't help that I'm fairly subtle about what I do in my spare time, and it takes a bit of getting to know me to actually, well, know me.

This troper has always been a geek/nerd/whathaveyou. Among the first books he ever read were the staples of Hindu Mythology - The Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Purana. He has obsessed about dinosaurs since he was 4 and went to a dinosaur museum. In fact, in fifth grade when the school reporters came to ask him what he wanted to be when he grew up (he'd stood 2nd in the mid-term exams), he said Paleontologist. Even the ''teacher'' had no idea what that meant (of course, that just means the teacher was an ignoramus...). He discovered Science Fiction and Fantasy late in life (when he was 12), but embraced it with all his heart. He could rattle off history, geography and science trivia since a young age. In his mid-teens he developed an interest in philosophy and theology. Other than that, he has been roleplaying online for 9 years, starting at the age of 13. The sad part is that his dream of being a physicist was crushed by his utter ineptitude at advanced mathematics and his dream of being a writer/historian/anthropologist being crushed social/peer pressure that says such dreams are worthless, which is why he is now studying Economics and utterly sucking at it.

I have managed to be geeky enough that my own dad, who knows nothing about anime, to snap his fingers when he light s the gas stove. That's right, I have taught my dad to be Roy Mustang.
