ProudToBeAGeek
#105504
This Troper can quote StarTrek lines in Chinese. Also, said troper started the TroperTales page for proud to be a geek. I ''dare'' you to find an example geekier than that.
#105505
This Troper is so proud he rubs off on his family. His father wants the
Aperture Laboratories Work Shirt off the Valve Store. I also caused him to annoy his co-workers by getting Re: Your Brains stuck in his head, causing him to sing it all day. I also enjoy wearing the {{Bungie}} Be a Hero Haiti Charity shirt along with my Bungie Japan Charity Wristband (another thing that's rubbed off, as he has one too). I talk about being a geek/nerd all the time and my best friend is also a geek/nerd (and in the oddest coincidence ever, was born two days before me, which is my parents' anniversary (they got married one year and two days before I was born), and my friend turned out to be a KodomoNoJikan fan as well, which is kind of obscure for two people to discover completely independently of each other while friends). I own over 100 games, have watched a ton of shows, can remember any episode of BuffyTheVampireSlayer with just a quick summery, has Bungie merch (as I just said), and more. Oh, and I write fanfic and am damn proud of it.
#105506
This (female) troper got a 36% (rounded up) on her Geek Test, thus earning the rank Major Geek. The sad part? She was disappointed and had been aiming for Extreme Geek. She can quote many Star Trek and Star Wars lines, has read many, many, MANY manga, is a complete anime freak to the point that she doesn't watch western animation anymore, can speak a few sentences in Japanese, is attempting to learn Klingon, wants to go to ComicCon, crossplayed as Zoro from One Piece for a small con, has played Dungeons and Dragons before (only once, my friend hosting it moved away and I can't find anyone else around here interested in playing it), constantly plays an online RPG about wizards, is in 2 AP classes, has never had an F or D on a report card, knowns how to use my computer better than my mom, can manipulate Sims 2 to do whatever I want, always carries a book of some sort to read after finishing classwork, plays videogames regularly, once owned a Sega Genesis, can play Pacman pretty well, and wears glasses. And I'm damn proud!
#105507
Do or do not, there is no try. ;)
#105508
Yon Troper has read basically every fantasy novel on the face of the planet and also collects graphic novels, has eight emulators on his three computers (NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, N64, PS1, Dreamcast, Atari 2600), watched all the StarWars movies three times each, went to ComicCon once, watches ''{{Heroes}}'' religiously (and has cosplayed as Sylar), plays both D&D and MagicTheGathering equally religiously (ever since 2005), owns both an Xbox 360, a PS2 and a Wii (and once had a GameCube) with about 40 games for each, actually ''looks for'' glitches in said games and has played DwarfFortress for six hours, got straight A's last year, has an obscene prog-rock collection, got to beta test Red Faction Guerrilla, and edits Wikipedia. Add to this the fact that he hit Super Geek on the geek test with 49%, sometimes doesn't shower for a week, and has no dress sense (likes to wear tie-die T-shirts with blazers, and a tie around his forehead), and you've got one super geek. And I love my status as one.
#105509
You know that not showering for a week on end is a BAD thing, yes?
#105510
Hell yeah. Not doing that again.
#105511
This Troper, while not having the geek cred that many of the others on the page might, has many nerdy interests. He's an avid manga/anime fan, has played Pokemon since it was released in America, and has, on several occasions, tried to learn
Sindarin. However, above all this, he is an out-spoken geek, and has more pride in his nerdiness than most. He occasionally gives HotBlooded speeches about his geekiness, and often encourages his (equally geeky) friends to take pride in their Geek nature. If there is a geek who enjoys being one more than him, he hasn't met that geek yet - and would really like to.
#105512
Possibly not more, but I proudly proclaim every one of these facts as pertaining to me as well.
#105513
This troper probably isn't as geeky as some of the others listed here, but I do have inherently geeky intrests. I can quote MontyPython when the situation fits, I have a crush on David Tennant (most consider Series/DoctorWho geeky here in the US), I know more about SherlockHolmes than most people my age, I have actually cosplayed as Mrs. Hudson from SherlockHolmes as part of a group thing with my friends (we did it once on Halloween and a second time when the Guy Ritchie movie came out), I like anime and manga, and I plan to become a web designer. I also know quite a bit about theater and music. I'm proud of all of these attributes.
#105514
This troper is not only proud to be a geek but unabashedly proud to be old. She brought her entire Tom Stoppard collection to college, regularly quotes 30s slapstick movies like ''Bringing Up Baby'', blasts Richard Thompson and The Mamas and the Papas, and watches Classic Series ''Series/DoctorWho''. For the record, this troper is 19.
#105515
This Troper doesn't have as long a geek pedigree as some, but takes extreme pride in the things he does indulge in ([=DnD=], many different anime and manga, many different video games, Star Wars, and many, many sci-fi and fantasy novels, not to get too specific). He constantly encourages his geek friends and even those who aren't necessarily geeks, but have have less than mainstream interests, to be proud of who they are and unashamed of what they like.
#105516
Who has been walking around London for much of the day wearing a suit, a tie and a
Sinestro Corps ring? This troper, baby, that's who.
#105517
This troper loves Star Trek TOS and took Russian classes solely because Chekov is her favorite character. She is not a hardcore gamer or anime fan but has been known to dabble. This troper dresses up for most fantasy/sci-fi movies she attends, is an expert at Harry Potter, enjoys drawing fanart, writing fanfiction and playing pacman. She wears glasses and reads too many fantasy novels for her own good. And is also currently working on her own. She only likes the original Star Wars movies, watches Brotherhood 2.0 regularly, and sulked for weeks when her comiccon plans fell through. She also enjoys [=LARPing=] and, lastly, gets horribly offended when she calls herself a geek and people say "Oh, you're not a geek!" like it's a good thing.
#105518
A very good point. This troper often refers to herself as a nerd, dork, or geek (depending on the current situation), and is taken off-guard whenever somebody tries to reassure her that she's not. Really, what else would you call it?
#105519
Miso is an unabashed nerd. She has recreated several ships on Sims 2, named all of her {{Mons}} in [=FireRed=] after rockstars and the ones in [=LeafGreen=] after the characters in {{Metalocalypse}}, and when in an uninteresting public place is usually playing Pokemon. She is also happy to be old- she's an Ozzy-era BlackSabbath fangirl, and the majority of her music is either European metal or rock from the 70s and 80s. She's also still a teenager, and not a legal adult. Her guitar teacher seemed surprised that she knew who half the guitarists he liked are/were.
#105520
While this troper also isn't as geeky as some other people on this page claim to be, she unabashedly will quote or reference random manga, anime, video games, movies, books and
tropes at any given chance regardless of whether or not anyone else will get them. Just today, while picking her brother up from school, she waved to him like Yukari does in
this video (no, she does not drive at all like Yukari). She proudly calls herself a geek, nerd, and anything of the like regardless of when people who don't know her any better tell her otherwise (much like the troper two above, she wonders why people seem to think being a geek is a bad thing).
#105521
This is pretty much the creed of this troper's college honors program. "Go Geek!" (Seriously, it's on a T-shirt) Also, this troper is quite proud of his general otaku-ness. I think I'd make a great
Jovian.
#105522
This troper is proud to be a geek. For added alliterative appeal: greek gaming geek. He has burned a game disc from playing too much (Fallout 2), has watched the first two seasons of I.T. Crowd twice, learns Japanese, has recently taken up scale modelling, likes older rock and power metal, and has written a math program in BlitzBasic. He can also quote Final Fantasy trivia at random.
#105523
Lale is proud to be a geek.
#105524
This Troper is a twenty-year-old
furry, plays CityOfHeroes and SonicTheHedgehog, is self-taught in bojitsu (using a bo staff), is an
Avatard, went as his
favorite turtle Donatello for Halloween, writes FanFiction, is addicted to StargateSG1, and ''loves'' {{Bionicle}}. Yep, I'm a nerd, and proud of it. Much to the chagrine of my jockish brother.
#105525
This troper calls himself a GAP (Geek And Proud) and I'm planning to sell t-shirts...
#105527
This troper is a Sci-Fi and Fantasy geek, liking Star Trek, Stargate, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and the classic Nintendo games. She is currently planning to wear her polyesther shirts and comb her hair (also known as looking like Spock) on Tuesdays just to annoy her (trekker) Physics teacher. Oh, yes, and she drew the words "Geek and Nerd" on her Pokemon Diamond Pixel Artist app. Non-geeks, beware.
#105529
This Troper is a proud geek, and often tells those bullied for being geeks that they'll invent the next biggest innovation, whilst the bullies will be working at Micky D's
#105530
The Rooster reads fanfiction, has a pop culture reference pool consistinng of film, literature, anime, western comics, western animation, video games, science, philosophy, music, and mythology, watches re-runs of MST3k constantly, reads and (shamefully writes) fanfiction, plays games across the spectrum, is a 360 achievement whore, nicknames all of his pokemon something that's either a horrible pun or a reference (including classic rock power trios for all legendary trios, such as Rush for the birds), has his head buried in a book whenever he can find the time, wastes his life on this site and by extension has the same tenuous grip on reality as
Konata Izumi, is a shameless prog nerd (usually considered separate from other nerdy interests), and a bunch of other stuff. Through it all, he's damn proud of it.
#105531
True story: in Statistics class, This Troper was spotted rolling his D&D dice while frantically scribbling down numbers and then entering them into his scientific calculator. When the professor called him out on it, he said that he was "calculating whether the dice have gone bad or not". After explaining further, the professor stated it was the "best use of applied probability she has ever seen".
#105533
I'm not as nerdy as others here, but I do make as many references to XKCD and OrderOfTheStick as I can, even though no one else gets it. I also have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of [=DnD=], although I don't play. I want to, though, but my friends aren't nerdy enough. D:
#105534
This troper would be a stereotype were he not real. He does not regard this as a bad thing. :P
#105535
Yay for all of us! This troper play both D&D and MtG, cannot go through a day without viewing or referencing 1. Firefly 2. XKCD 3. Star Trek, either TNG, Deep Space Nine or Voyager 4. Dr. McNinja 5. About half a dozen other webcomics and assorted movies. He even got an XKCD hoodie to prove it, which was promptly stolen/misplaced. Loves making lists, is advancing his math curriculum out of boredom, and reads this site. Additionally, if the online practice Mensa quiz is to be believed, he would most likely qualify for Mensa at 14. Not a big deal, but damn if he's not proud.
#105536
This Troper's history of proud geekiness goes back to his days in High School when he made a book report of ''The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring'' (and bored his classmates with a 20-minute speech about the setting).
#105537
You, sir, are AWESOME. Wish I had thought of doing that when I was in high school...
#105538
This Troper knows more about Star Wars History than Earth History, which is saying something for having taken AP World History and scoring quite well in it. He unashamedly carries Star Wars Novels with him around school and reads them whenever he damn well pleases. He also RP's almost constantly online, having spent about an hour prior to opening TV Tropes on designing a d20 RPG Character for a Saga Edition Campaign. I consider myself a cross between a Grunge Rocker and a Geek...mostly because I'm the latter in the body of the former. This Troper is also fond of many childrens anime, enjoying Pokemon and Digimon to an almost unhealthy extent. He is also a damn proud former Spriter, specializing in Dragon Ball Z LSW Style, the series of which he invests far too much time in. Considering the over 150 IQ, he also enjoys psychology, Jung specifically, and literature.
#105539
I occasionally take this trope to the point where I adopt a MalcolmXerox persona, except with geekiness instead of blackness (for example, I claim people pulling their pants up high and speaking like they wear braces is "nerdface").
#105540
This troper can declare proudly that
Nathan Fillion is his favourite actor,
Brazil is his favourite movie, and his favourite novel is WorldWarZ. He has a firm belief that SuperMarioBros is the greatest game of all time due to it almost single handedly revitalizing the video game market. He is also familiar with video games history, and knows quite a bit from the NES era onwards. He can also talk excessivly about the Beatles, and has an ability to understand some concepts for more advanced than some college aged people would get a headache from. He would argue about how TheOtherWiki is not bad, despite that everybody around me is brainwashed against it. Talking about Series/DoctorWho has helped him get friends, and he also did the same thing with InvaderZim and CyberSix, and on another occasion he has determined that in a zombie apocalypse one should flock to Newfoundland. And finally, he has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of
memes.
#105541
Today this troper has learned about concepts just so he could laugh at a DresdenCodak strip, and played
CivIV for hours straight after having his capital stolen by
Caesar and Ghandi...
#105542
Update, he applied for volunteering at an anime convention, at which he will either cosplay at the Tenth Doctor or
NESS, recently got a 'chinese bootleg' NES so that he could play MetalGear. And is currently playing EarthBound on his iPod.
#105543
Um, guys? This is ''TVTropes''. This is the geekiest place of which This Troper is aware (single-focus areas like anime conventions don't count in her book). If you're ''not'' this, take this advice: sneak off the site quietly and no one will be the wiser. Anyway, 'proud' does not begin to describe ThisTroper. Nothing other than pride ever really occurs to her as a reaction to geekiness. She makes obscure references in full knowledge that
there's not a Snowball's chance in a microwave oven that anyone will get them, and she gives high-fives for ones she can catch. She answers 'how are you?' with 'well, thank you' and she doesn't end sentences with prepositions! She may not be too sharp on geek culture, but darn if she doesn't have a geek's heart.
#105544
I spend almost all of my time on my computer, playing videogames, or playing Yu-gi-oh! with my friends. I own every single Nintendo system since the N64 in perfect working condition, plus a 360, Genesis and PS1, and at least 10 games for each. I own a copy of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt despite not owning an NES. I learned to read before the end of Kindergarten, all because of Pokemon. I grew up watching StarWars and Miyazaki movies, which I'm still a fan of today. I consider Mythbusters to be the only good television show that airs on North American TV today. I've lost track of a conversation because I was too busy thinking of how to insert anime references without derailing it. I've had a loud argument (in a crowded hallway) about the DoubleStandard of lolicon and shotacon that my friends have, with one of those friends, that eventually devolved into us yelling GurrenLagann and GGundam quotes at each other. I've watched more hours of anime than I've ever watched of TV. I consider plot and characterization to be more important than visuals or action in... anything, really. (I'm still the only person I know who thinks that Avatar sucks for these reasons.) I independently formed a belief that allows all fictional worlds to exist without making me sound ''too'' obsessed. I have over 800 songs from video games and over 150 songs from anime on the
triPod (so called because it's my third one). I have had long and involved conversations about grammar. I'm learning Japanese almost entirely because I think the country's entertainment is far above ours's. I have spent several classes arguing with multiple English teachers about "singular they." I could go on for a while longer, but I think I've made my point.
#105545
This autistic troper (and yes, I was officially diagnosed as a baby, had to be mainstreamed into school, etc., so believe me when I tell you I'm not full of it) used to flaunt his nerd interests in high school, happily talking about - as if bragging about - his love of cartoons and video game music and such, and would actively be embarrassed about enjoying anything mainstream or "cool". Nowadays, he's mellowed out the nerd pride, and isn't as afraid to admit to enjoying some mainstream music and movies. (However, he'd rather be known for his interests in obscure films and in children's books). And of course, he has emulators for like every system (even PS2 and the arcade), and has his computer hooked up to his HDTV as well as his monitor in his bedroom, allowing him to play emulator games on his HDTV with a wireless controller. He's pretty proud of ''that'', of course. And, as of this writing, had just recently finished a ''RamonaQuimby'' marathon. It's possible to not be into sci-fi and high fantasy and still be a nerd, dammit!
#105546
This Troper memorized most of
D&D 3.5, founded a club for it, and did his Multimedia class documentary on it, can name a half-dozen ''StarWars'' Expanded Universe characters and a few dozen ''[=~Yu-Gi-Oh!~=]'' cards off the top of his head, knows more about ''GreenLantern'' than all the rest of his class combined, claimed that the aliens in ''{{Expedition}}'' were much better than the ones in ''Film/{{Avatar}}'', named a character in ''CityOfVillains'' after the ThunderboltIron trope, quotes ''CalvinAndHobbes'', ''WrathOfKhan'', ''JusticeLeague'', and this very wiki on a regular basis, and practically turned "I'm the only one who gets the reference, am I?" into a near CatchPhrase.
#105547
I read TVTropes. 'nuff said.
#105548
This troper got 50.55% (Super Geek) on the Geek Test and was disappointed because I thought I could hit extreme. I now wish to use the test as a checklist of geeky things to do (like go to conventions). Proud of it, and always will be. Plays DungeonsAndDragons, MagicTheGathering, WorldOfWarcraft, and an online strategy game based on Magic on the WizardsOfTheCoast message boards. Most of these, for years. Geekyness is expanding.
#105549
This Troper's Facebook picture is him posing with every
Lantern Corps ring. Definitely not hiding the nerdiness.
#105550
This troper once had someone in her English class say that she wasn't a nerd (mistakenly assuming that she would take offense at that). Her response? "I write ''fanfiction'', and you're saying I'm not a nerd?"
#105551
This is this Troper to a T. To the point where she and other geek friends exchange requests for hugs in the format of Linux terminal commands: #QUOTE#sudo apt-get install hugs -snuggly #QUOTE#[SUDO] Password for ''name'': #QUOTE#********* #QUOTE#Installing hugs v2.4.5
#105552
Using this one time also resulted in a fellow geek friend
lampshading her geeky status.
#105553
I can, have, and will quote Series/DoctorWho whenever I wish, listened to my mind to hear a Dalek shouting... what do you think? Thats right, Extermin''iren.'' I want to become
promoted to the status of (The) Doctor in the future, Thirteen preferrably. I have cosplayed as Light Yagami. At school. And the only reason I haven't cosplayed as Tennant was because I couldn't find a coat. I was inspired to consider taking up the trumpet, as well as aving taken up guitar, by Kamen Rider Hibiki.
#105554
I will proudly declare myself a Ben10 fan (despite ranting half the time about the series' decay) in public, and with all the trivia to back it up. It's gotten to the point that I'll promptly thumbs-up anyone I see wearing Ben 10 merchandise, leading to a lot of confused little kiddies. My biggest dreams are to cosplay Kevin Ethan Levin, rope in my friends to be Ben and Gwen, and barge into toy stores across the state. I changed my shojo manga-esque style of art that I had been practicing for 4 years in favour of a Glen Murakami-inspired one. I'm also a diehard fan of Thurop Van Orman, so someday you might come across a slightly hunchbacked Asian girl breathing down your neck in either Dr Barber or Captain K'nuckles cosplay.
#105555
Right here. Nintendo nerd to the Nth degree. Can, and will beat Sonic Adventure's Emerald Beach in less than thirty seconds. Role-plays at every moment life gives, and tends to ShipTease, just to see YaoiFangirls squeel. This Troper is a bit upset that he can't quite pull-off the ''Scrawny Nerd'' look, so he's attempting to pull off the ''Smexy Nerd'' look, by getting abs (and it's working).
#105556
This troper has a lot of personal examples, but here's the most convincing: my favorite song is called I'll Still Be A Geek After Nobody Thinks It's Chic. It's by indie artist MarianCall, and it appears on an album of Battlestar Galactica and Firefly fan music.
#105557
This Troper is proud to be a geek with knowledge of several sci-fi series and films, knows quite a lot about the Star Wars universe and probably knows more about the Series/DoctorWho universe. He has more than 200 books on various subjects and many more eBooks, memorises many obscure facts that he comes across (but has a horrendously poor memory in other areas) and is also someone who dislikes violence and anger. I love myself sometimes =)
#105558
This Troper has been in the gifted program since the first grade, usually gets 20+ books from the library every time she goes, has just about memorized and can quote large passages from HarryPotter, wants to be either a geneticist, a linguist, or a world famous fantasy author, and skipped the seventh grade. I stopped caring (or never really cared, I can't quite remember) whether people called me a nerd or not in the fourth grade. My response was, "Yes, and your point is?", because "Nerd" only meant, "Smart" to me. Also, I do believe I can out-geek all of you. Let it be shown by the edit record, that I am the first person to start a Nerd Pride Club, which meets in the library of my hometown every Saturday. Or at least, it will, once we get an adult supervisor.
#105559
This troper introduces himself with "I am a nerd through and through." As a kid, the first thing I asked anyone I met was "do you like dinosaurs?" My parents actually told me off for this.
#105560
It took a major crush on this troper's geeky best friend to realize and celebrate her inner nerd, supressed after one too many bullies. Now she freely admits that her favorite shows are {{Star Trek}}, {{MST3K}} and {{Quantum Leap}}; she makes so many physics and chemistry jokes that she drives the scientists around her nuts; and her parents have an old computer set up so that she can screw around up to her elbows in MS-DOS without ruining anything important. She also spends 90% of her freetime on writing projects. (Also, she got 48.33948% on the Geek Test. For a 17 year old girl, I think that's pretty commendable. ;D)
#105561
This Troper, 100%. As well as many of the 'standard' geeky interests: almost all sci-fi (Series/DoctorWho especially), various slightly more obscure anime (NeonGenesisEvangelion,
xxxHoLiC,
Haruhi Suzumiya), technology/gadgets, etc, I am more than willing to stand up for geeks/nerds and proudly declare myself as one. People should be free to do whatever they please, so long as it hurts no-one else. If people don't like who you are, or what you do, who cares, screw them! It's your life, do what makes you happy!
#105562
PS: NGE was the first anime I ever watched, and far from putting me off watching others, it encouraged me to find other 'unusual' series. I also don't get the big thing about 'it's impossible to understand'. No it isn't. Yeah... don't call the men in white coats, I've got them on speed-dial, I'll do it myself.
#105563
Hi, doppelgänger!
#105564
This Troper has studied Classical Latin for almost five years, finished a friendly debate over which plural of octopus is correct (or technically, more correct. Octopodes is the plural one gets following the pattern of the Ancient Greek 3rd decl. and it predates octopi, which uses the Latin 2nd decl. And octopuses just sounds silly), using her knowledge of Latin noun declensions and Ancient Greek to prove her point, has spent her summer dabbling in the study of Old English, read Dante’s DivineComedy, Nabokov’s {{Lolita}} and Hugo’s Notre-Dame de Paris (AKA, TheHunchbackOfNotreDame, mais je l’ai lu en anglais, cependant) at the age of 14, can more than hold her own in discussions on a wide range of subjects including quantum physics, UK politics, Renaissance art, {{Firefly}}, genetics, choral music, Series/DoctorWho and sci-fi, can recite Shakespeare, use basic CSS and HTML, and to boot, reads fanfiction, watches anime, reads manga, {{xkcd}}, and adores Alan Moore’s graphic novels. Not to mention once getting a Physics teacher and several other students to sing Still Alive from {{Portal}} with her, completely by accident, in Venice, when on a school choir trip. Aged 15, happy to be such a nerd, and certain she’ll never boast to this degree ever again.
#105565
While this troper is not "classically" geeky, not being into sci-fi or computers, she is a hell of a lot more learnéd (yes, I want the accent on there, it makes me look geekier and it sounds nicer as well) than most of her peers, studies Latin, has studied Ancient Greek and a bit of Russian (but didn't have enough free time to do them properly...sniff), read The Faerie Queene before she turned 14, read War and Peace in six days, enjoyed Bernard Shaw's ''Plays Political'' (and read them when she was 11 or 12 to boot), goes to summer schools for fun, is good at maths and science, is the youngest member on the debating team and on par with the sixth formers there. And is 14. (Note: I'm not normally this cocky in real life.)
#105566
This troper researches his stories
very thoroughly, and has the honor of being the first person in school to put SQL incantations into his novels a la SuzumiyaHaruhi. He also calculated just how, and how long it would take to accelerate a person, strapped to a coffin in a mass driver to 11km/s safely for his story. All these, despite knowing that, chances are, nobody will verify them, He is known among Literature teachers for being brilliant at deconstructing characters, thanks to this wiki, and among the pyromaniacal Chemistry teachers as a dangerous character after he pointed out that the nitric acid and glycerin shouldn't be put so close together. Among other things, he has learned various languages, including Japanese, Russian and Spanish all because he wanted to invoke BilingualBonus, read Three Sisters by Chekov just because he saw a trope index dedicated to the man.
#105567
This troper may not be a typical geek, but she definitely identifies with them and considers herself one. She has been a bookworm since she was three, an otaku since kindergarten, a writer and studier of characters since eighth grade, and a troper since college. Her brother is a gamer and an otaku. She scored "Geek" on a "Geek or Nerd" quiz and actually knows the difference between the two. She has two pairs of glasses: thick black rectangular ones and oval-shaped pink ones. She has a work in progress called "The Lit Geek Society."
It's a novel about geeks and the book club they form.
#105568
This troper is not offended at all to be called a nerd or geek. I love being one.
#105569
This troper maybe a
Sadie}} preachy, pushy Girl}} supporter of any Earth-saving cause, but proudly declares that she is first and foremost, a proud geek (in fact, on one Internet profile I have elsewhere, I describe myself as a "Granola Geek"). Seriously, I've been a bookworm since toddler age, can remember quotes from movies and cartoons before I can remember my own birthday, still write fanfiction and draw fanart, love comic books (mostly independent stuff), and love taking brain teasing tests for fun. As most 20-somethings do, I've been thinking deeply about what I'd like to do with my life, and have decided I most likely will be a sci-fi/fantasy writer, mostly writing stories with environmentalist/animal rights/social justice undertones to them (trying, of course, my best not to be too {{Anvilicious}}).
#105570
This troper doesn't even bother hiding her geeky otaku tendencies. The first thing you see when coming into her room are two huge posters. BoondockSaints and HaruhiSuzumiya. Her laptop is filled with drafts to yaoi fanfiction. She's gone into really long-winded rants over the horrors of the AnimationAgeGhetto. She can quote nearly every pop/geek-culture exemplary film, book, TV series, and comic. She spouts memes at appropriate times, lurks 4chan, and can identify tropes at the drop of a hat.
#105571
This troper [=RPs=] still, and plans to have a Klingon Wedding with her Boyfriend (who she met on a star trek website) She also named her pet gerbils after characters from X-men (and one philosopher): Gambit, Phoenix, Emma and Socrates.
#105572
This troper, aside from being a science (especially maths and logic) enthusiast, is in the dilligent process of watching every Series/DoctorWho episode in existence, has become a fanboy of many a literary figure (SherlockHolmes and {{Dracula}} especially), and sometimes spends his free time doing outlandish photomanips just for laughs.
#105573
This troper is a Victorian enthusiast who laments on the fact that Victorian fashion isn't as appreciated as it should be and would gladly walk around town in full costume if she could. She also plays DungeonsAndDragons on a regular basis, has movie and anime posters on her walls and is a walking encyclopedia for {{Final Fantasy VII}}. Not to mention she can be considered a
hot geek by most standards and a {{Perky Goth}}.

This troper is in her mid-thirties. She dresses up at the Renaissance faire and successfully pretends to be a member of the staff, frequently getting stopped for directions or other information. She belongs to a SherlockHolmes society and wears a trenchcoat. She collects swords, studies English history for fun, is slightly well-known for her fan fiction, drops tropes into everyday conversation, references TVTropes in her blog entries, and openly declares that among her life's goals, she wants to be a MemeticBadass and an internet celebrity. She has been playing video games since she was four years old (her first game was ''Pong'') and is waiting to find out if her application has been accepted to be an editor on a certain well-known video game website. She married a man who is as geeky about science fiction as she is about fantasy and history; they have discovered that they can never play Trivial Pursuit against each other because they stalemate forever. Oh, she's also the one who's been running around the TroperTales section and fixing all the broken links to contributor pages, and has added about half of the (hopefully) funny phrases at the bottoms of those pages to link back to the original articles.

Sure, This Troper still has a long way to go to become a true otaku, but at the age of 13, This Troper has watched a lot of anime (seriously, but I still have so many to watch...my friends keep recommending me animes I should watch),and also has read quite a lot of mangas. This Troper plays videogames often (but This Troper has stopped due to not having time, but This Troper will be playing soon), and This Troper actually wants to know more about videogames,manga,anime...This Troper couldn't be more proud of what she likes! Proud to be a geek, indeed!

I AM A
WHOVIAN! AND PROUD OF IT! I have an external hard drive filled with every Who episode from 1963 to 2010, apty named the Whodrive. I have a bowtie. I was excited when my Dad bought me a fob watch for my eighteenth, fashioned myself brainy specs and have Ten's sonic. I have watched every 2005 series ep at least five times, my previous ringtone was the TARDIS, and I have a Who blog. I also own all the soundtracks and am listening to one right now. I have a crush on Amy Pond and a mancrush on DavidTennant. I quote Who constantly and go to my local bookstore to see if Doctor Who Magazine is on sale. If I see another Whovian, I will scream like a girl and talk about Who for hours. I'm a
fanboy.

This troper is a huge nerd when it comes to anime, mythology, video games, comics, movies, a bit of Star Wars and tropes. He is also a large ham which makes life interesting for my friends and family. My justification is it's a whole lot better than being boring and they would agree.

Mythology geek here. Particularly Greek, Roman and Chinese.

This troper, who can happily recite any line from HarryPotter without any real issue. Give me a line, I'll tell you what chapter and what book its from. Show me a picture from the title page, I'll tell you what chapter, what book, and whats going on exactly. I can recite mass sections of the books from memory, has dressed up as Hermione for three Halloweens, went to every midnight or early showing of the films that I could. I am a loud and proud Ravenclaw, having taken multiple sorting quizzes to prove it. When the Harry Potter Exhibit came to the Pacific Science Center, I was there, having a total {{Nerdgasm}} at everything, getting very teary-eyed. I cried when I finished the series because it was over, hand-crafted my own wooden wands for releases of the films and books, made scarves for all four Houses in their correct coloring (Ravenclaw's mascot is wrong in the films: its blue with a BRONZE EAGLE), got more people to read the books, and generally know more about the books than I do anything else. I have a multitude of copies but desire them in other languages. I even bought the special Anniversary edition of Sorcerer's Stone, and intend to get the DVD sets for the films once I get money. Bonus? Hermione and I share the same birthday.

This troper is a die-hard fan of the books of: Lord of the Rings and pretty much all the related works; Harry Potter; much of David Eddings' work (c'mon, guys, his stuff needs more love!); and is doing her damnedest to build my Terry Pratchett collection up past the mere 27 or so she has. She has the extended editions of all LOTR films and has watched every bit of the bonus features on all three to the point she can ''quote'' some of them, and has done so for her Pirates of the Caribbean [=DVDs=] as well. She has a map of Middle-earth on her living-room wall, along with a hand-drawn map for a world of her own invention that never got fully fleshed out, and keeps wooden weapons on her windowsill. One of her eighteenth birthday presents was a hand-made Black Arrow as used by Bard from The Hobbit, along with a presentation box, and she possesses a replica of the One Ring on a chain that's rarely not around her neck. She RPs daily with her friends online, keeps a book and her laptop by her bed to keep herself entertained, refers to herself as a geek and gets offended when people try to reassure her otherwise. She is a slightly obsessive Grammar Nazi and struggles to keep her mouth shut around written errors. She writes, reads, and on occasion corrects fanfiction, being a member of the ProtectorsOfThePlotContinuum and looking for a career in proofreading and editing. Her friends either write her stories around the characters they've invented together, or make her cool stuff (at this time, she owns a home-made knitted hat and handwarmers in Gryffindor colours and artwork of a group of her friend's characters, and is awaiting a knitted afghan blanket with squares involving a massive number of geeky references). She has a ''database'' to keep track of vital statistics for her original characters because she has so many. Her Geek Test score is 21.03321% - Geek, and she wants to get her hands on Firefly and Serenity [=DVDs=]. Yay geekiness!

While this Troper isn't completely as geeky as some of the other people here, she is a
gamer(especially everything Nintendo, but other games are cool too), loves manga and
cosplays and goes to cosplay conventions, loves and knows a lot about
Internet memes(even with the more geeky people I hang with there are some that even they don't know of), is usually found in front of her computer, loves reading, makes up tons of original characters, and wears
glasses. Also, I know the difference between "geek" and "nerd",
and sometimes have to lecture classmates about this. And I show my geekiness proudly off!
#105586
This troper cosplayed SailorMoon when she was four. She was a geek since before she knew it!
#105587
This runs in her family too. Proof? My uncle's license plate reads 'Jedi'. QED.
#105588
This troper decided, on a whim, to install a 1960s computer operating system just to prove his nerd credentials. Then, he proceeded to write a 3,500-word essay on it, which to his complete surprise, was taken to be almost entirely factually accurate by people who had used the operating system for serious purposes.
#105589
This troper goes to work everyday with a tiny Autobot symbol right above his name tag. And yet not one person has noticed unless it gets pointed out to them.
#105590
Half the student population of this troper's college are geeks, as well as almost the entire faculty. We kind of have to be. A good chunk of what we learn is based on media and the internet. I mean, an ideal scriptwriting class goes like this: the professor shows a bunch of video clips from various movies/tv shows/cartoons, and we students study the techniques used. The typical scriptwriting class goes like that, except with everybody geeking out over the clips. Long live college-wide geekery!

I am one of the five people who subverts this trope, and am downright ashamed of being a geek. And before anyone says anything, it's nothing personal, IJustWantToBeNormal.
#105592
(Inserted here) I work with computers full time, developing medical software and video games. I use Linux on my home computer. I design programming languages and compilers for fun, and code in Lisp (and occasionally pure lambda calculus) because I ''like'' it. I studied Japanese, Latin and Ancient Greek (and can still use the first two, albeit badly). If you call me a geek
I will be bloody offended, because there's nothing I hate more than pop-culture references in casual conversation (TV Tropes is fun ''precisely'' because it's a
private pastime), and that seems to be 90% of what self-defining geeks want to do.
#105593
This troper is, um, a ''different'' kind of geek. I don't really care for sci-fi, gaming, anime, or most other topics named on this page. But! I ''adore'' history and have dragged my friends/family on more than a few walking tours; I'm practically a walking indie-comedy database who has waited outside the [[=UCB=]] in sub-freezing temperatures for a free David Cross show and forms instant friendships by quoting ''{{Stella}}'' or ZachGalifianakis at parties; I take politics ''very'' seriously; I was a spelling bee competitor at the national level as a child; and, probably most tellingly, when I'm interested in something, I feel a pathological need to learn as much about it as I possibly can and then engage everyone I know in conversations about it. As far as I'm concerned, you can be a geek about any subject whatsoever (sports fans, in my opinion, are definitely geeks - extensive knowledge of names, dates, statistics, and awesome moments? Come on, that's a geek) - it's just a potent mix of enthusiasm, commitment, and obsession. Nothing to be ashamed of there!

This troper considers himself the foremost expert on all things Troma and his most sincere wish would be to meet the boys of lambda lambda lambda (Adams college chapter) and watch the toxic avenger, sgt.Kabukiman, n.y.p.d., and class of nuke'em high while enjoying the local sights i.e., the omega mus, and is extremely proud to be a geek.

I play guitar and sometimes I record songs (be they originals or covers) and post them on my Facebook. Some of these songs include
the Pallet Town theme, the Flower Garden music from ''YoshisIsland'' (as well as the intro movie's music), the Pokemon Johto theme (
with two-part harmony!),
"Experimental Film", and a mashup of
"Lady Madonna" and the Fever music from DrMario (technically, the ''SuperSmashBros Melee'' version). Additionally, I took some gameplay footage to put the music for the first two listed on top of, and in the Pokemon one I named the protagonist and rival (respectively)
"MUSIC" and "LIVES" (for no real reason).
Additionally additionally, a friend of mine and I did our own extemporaneous rendition of the ''PhineasAndFerb'' theme and a (more prepared) rendition of
"Basket Case", at the end of which for the latter we break out into an impromptu rendition of
"Stayin' Alive". Additionally, the (tiled) background of my Formspring is the
Deep 13 logo, and I constantly make cultural references in my speech (especially
Beatles references), even if people don't get them. ...It's really awkward to randomly say in the middle of a coversation "
THERE IS NO WAR IN BA SING SE" and get crickets as a response../
#105596
An often complaint amongst a few of my friends is "GOOD GOD YOU'RE A GEEK." My usual response is "So?" Doesn't help that I'm fairly subtle about what I do in my spare time, and it takes a bit of getting to know me to actually, well, know me.

This troper has always been a geek/nerd/whathaveyou. Among the first books he ever read were the staples of Hindu Mythology - The Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Purana. He has obsessed about dinosaurs since he was 4 and went to a dinosaur museum. In fact, in fifth grade when the school reporters came to ask him what he wanted to be when he grew up (he'd stood 2nd in the mid-term exams), he said Paleontologist. Even the ''teacher'' had no idea what that meant (of course, that just means the teacher was an ignoramus...). He discovered Science Fiction and Fantasy late in life (when he was 12), but embraced it with all his heart. He could rattle off history, geography and science trivia since a young age. In his mid-teens he developed an interest in philosophy and theology. Other than that, he has been roleplaying online for 9 years, starting at the age of 13. The sad part is that his dream of being a physicist was crushed by his utter ineptitude at advanced mathematics and his dream of being a writer/historian/anthropologist being crushed social/peer pressure that says such dreams are worthless, which is why he is now studying Economics and utterly sucking at it.

I have managed to be geeky enough that my own dad, who knows nothing about anime, to snap his fingers when he light s the gas stove. That's right, I have taught my dad to be Roy Mustang.

This Troper has a thing for cool hats. He once wore four of them at once (with a plushi Chuthulu on top) all day at his high school. The teachers didn't complain. That's right, I managed to be geeky enough that my teachers didn't even try challenge the geekiness. Can be seen here: http://keymakeralchemist.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d35a5xb

This troper always responds to the intended insult "You're so weird!" with a double thumbs up, a wide grin and an "Oh yes, I hope so." She can also quote large sections of Star Wars/Star Trek/Doctor Who off the top of her head, once named over 130 Star Wars planets from memory, loves maths, physics and chemistry and does her homework while listening to the X-Men First Class soundtrack. She also managed to get her decidedly non-geeky friend into Star Trek and has been watching Star Wars since she was four. Also, she built her own lightsaber. Geeky and proud! (See what I did there? X-Men reference?)

This Troper is a big fan of the {{Marvel Universe}} especially {{Spider-Man}} and {{Deadpool}} and I often quote TV Tropes. I love Video Games. But the biggest thing that I like that is nerdy is action figues I mostly own Marvel action figues. I also like comic books and {{Star Wars}}
