GamerChick
#53569
For this troper, an interesting case is my friend and Pokemon. Although I could easily beat her as far as battles with high level power houses she is more dedicated to
following the rules and would reprimand me for exploiting glitches (I'm not talking about action replay either). She's also played more Pokemon games then me, and has probably memorized the entire list past generation 3 (which was my hiatus until platinum came out).
#53570
This troper kind of subverts. She plays some games, but she is utterly terrible at it. This resulted in at least two creepy people on multiplayers, who first wanted her to marry them, because 'she's a gurl and she plays Unreal Tournament zomg' and then apparently had their hearts broken witnessing her god-awful aim.
#53571
This female troper has been playing EverQuest and WorldOfWarcraft since she was in second grade (literally, not figuratively), and is currently beginning to get into {{Rift}}. As far as [=RPGs=] and other games go, she has a special spot in her heart for DragonAge, LegendOfZelda, KingdomHearts, FinalFantasy, and anything SidMeier. She ''really'' want's to get into DungeonsAndDragons, but she has no one to play with.
#53572
This troper, natch. I enjoy
a wide variety of different video game franchises, including but not limited to the ones mentioned, and plan to start on
a few more someday,
including but not limited to those mentioned. (But first things first: my DS emulator fails because it won't load state without crashing, and it won't load in-game saved data full stop i.e. it just dives right into a new game upon startup. ._. On top of that, the random number god hates me: on a previous game almost every random encounter was a
goddamn Zubat or Kricketot, and on my most recent game, my Chimchar was
*bleep*ing ''weak''. Either that or I just wasn't concentrating properly. Either way, I lost ''twice'', both in my first battle against Barry and in a battle against a random boy whose name I can't remember for the life of me. So now I'm waiting 'til I actually ''get'' a DS to play Platinum, and either [=HeartGold=] or [=SoulSilver=].)
#53573
This troper personalty knows a 10 year old girl whose unbeatable at Tekken dozens of guys and other girls have played against her only to lose, more people are surprise the fact she's young then a girl.
#53574
This troper has been a Pokemon gamer since Red and Green/Blue. I would play Emerald and Platinum again and again and again until I make the perfect teams. Sure, I've beaten Emerald many teams with either a Blaziken or a Swampert as my starter, but I'll do it again, this time with the latter. And Platinum? Well, since I found out that there are actually ''3'' Shiny Stones (one of them hidden), I plan to have the best team ever.
#53575
This Troper has a friend IRL who happens to fit the bill of being a GamerChick, although definitely not on the curb-stomping extreme. She's regularly demolished in certain games, like Left4Dead, where she'd be just as dangerous as an ally (especially with a chainsaw) as she would be as an enemy. Although this troper admits that he was pathetically trailing behind her score when playing a round of Counter Strike, and that she can generally hold her own in most other FPS games.
#53576
This Tropers sister surprised my father and I by turning out to be a huge fan of anything by Bioware, and she plays The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion in windowed mode while checking her FaceBook, and she actually managed to explain the plot of Metal Gear 2 to me, well at least I think she did, I'm still not sure about the last part...
#53577
Metal Gear 2 or Metal Gear Solid 2? I have to ask cause some people still aren't aware that there was a metal Gear series prior to 'Solid'.
#53578
This female troper is a fan of fighting videogames and can ''so'' attest that. I don't play them just to impress guys in the arcades and am ''not'' a button masher, dammit. >_> OTOH, I temporarily gained a small following during a con ''because'' I was the only girl playing fighting games in the gamer section, so other con attendant were a bit in awe. *^^*
#53579
This female troper is going to enter a SSB:Brawl tournament. And I'll win it, too. >:)
#53580
Try real fighting games :P
#53581
Fighting games are SeriousBusiness. What, are you going channel David Sirlin and talk about "scrubs" and "playing to win" next?
#53583
This also female troper will play many of the same games as her brother, particularly the fighting ones. She's not particularly good at them, but she's improved from button mashing (she's had to in order to keep up with her much better brother). She tends to get competitive too. She also doesn't play to impress (how can she impress when she's an amateur to casual gamer at best?). That doesn't mean she can't enjoy the occasional game.
#53584
I don't think that would count as GamerChick considering this trope is about the TokenGirl in a circle of hardcore gamers. I might be wrong though.
#53585
This editor's sister began to turn into one in college. Which is funny because she betrayed no such tendencies while still living under one roof with all of this editor's games.
#53586
This troper's wife beat ''Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne'' before he did, and borrowed his DS and his copy of ''Disgaea DS'' so many times that he just said "fuck it", let her keep it, and got his own. Now she kicks his ass in multiplayer.
#53587
This female troper is really, really good at video games--any kind, really--and is so good, that she sometimes has to give some players handicaps when she plays them in multiplayer. Did I mention that the people she plays are boys who are three years older then her?
#53588
This troper has evolved from being a button-mashing gamer to a decent player even in war games, which she used to suck at. Mostly because you can't button mash in MetalGearSolid and still beat the game in any decent amount of time. She does tend to slip back into button-mashing when she plays Soul Calibur, though.
#53589
This Troper grew from someone who shied away from video games altogether, into one of these in the early years at her Senior School. Her firm motto with them though, is "Video games are meant to be fun, and as such shiould be treated this way - fun.", which helps make sure that she doesn't turn into a
'Stop-Having-Fun-Girl'.
#53590
This troper's cup of gaming tea is usually focused on
older titles. I only own ten games between my Wii and my PS2. However, my emulated titles for NES and SNES run into the hundreds. I'm not talking Mortal Kombat retro. I'm talking Pong retro. It made me a bit of an AngryVideoGameNerd fan. My weird subsphere of interest is
Phenomenally shitty games, as well as the classics. My gravestone will be marked with "If only I had found that 1UP..."
#53591
This editor outright refuses to play Tekken (or any kind of fighting game) with one of his female friends, because she will repeatedly
kick the crap out of him. She also sucks terribly at MarioParty, GuitarHero, and all those other party games that people tend to associate with video games that girls play.
#53592
This male editor's female siblings and friends are all into video and tabletop games, and all can kick his butt at anything other than ''MagicTheGathering'' (with one exception who is totally my superior even at that).
#53593
I'm female, and a gamer, and I'll play anything except sports and racing games. I really am fond of fighting, action, and [=RPG=]s--I need to stop EntryPimp-ing the ''{{Gungrave}}'' page... but...
I love it so damn much...!
#53594
This Tropette is an avid gamer - almost any kind of game, even when she sucks at it -, plays RPG since 2000, and always wanted to be a game programmer. Still wants. She'll get there.
#53595
This male troper's twelve-years-younger sister frequently tries to rope him into playing video games with her (either multiplayer or getting her past some part she can't figure out). In fact, sometimes she plays one of his games so much that he gets sick of said game for a while. This may soon happen with his old copy of ''[=~Pokémon~=] Gold''.... (Then again, said troper is concurrently replaying ''Crystal''.)
#53596
This female troper was raised on Super Mario Bros., and rarely goes anywhere without her DS in its swank metal carry case. She's also well-known at her preferred [=GameStop=] for her love of [=RPG=]s, [=JRPG=]s in particular.
#53597
This troper's little sister does absolutely nothing but ''mash buttons'', and she'll still manage to beat anyone at just about any game there is, despite the fact she only plays Super Mario Bros. Also worth noting, his girlfriend is adamantly "Not a gamer", but will throw down with a vengeance on Unreal Tournament at the drop of a hat. Makes a guy wonder.
#53598
This troper is the daughter of a woman who played First Edition Dungeons&Dragons. Due to her having the books when she was a little girl, the troper got into gaming and has never looked back. She apparently is really, really good at gaming. She loves her Pen and Paper and her Tactics games a bit much.
#53600
This troper spent some of the happiest hours of her adolescence playing ''TheLegendOfZelda'' and other games on her NES, as well as Dungeons&Dragons in a group where she was the token chick. Her sister, who is seven years younger, used to like to sit and watch her play the video games, and would playfully refer to Troper as "the game master." About a year after she started using that name, ''Captain N: The Game Master'' debuted on television, much to their amusement, and it was a running joke between the sisters that the main character Kevin was just a boy version of Troper. Now in her thirties, Troper plays games on the Wii, [=PlayStation=] 2, NES, Game Boy, and computer, and by a funny coincidence, her husband's name is Kevin.
#53601
Fact: Girls are better snipers. There's actually some weird scientific explanation for it too. I am not making this up.
#53602
Different center of balance, maybe? Still, that's freaking cool.
#53603
Better hand-eye coordination, actually. Also better balance, but that's irrelevant.
#53604
This troper is a girl with dysgraphia (a diagnosable lack of fine motor control). So there.
#53605
...and if the other person had claimed ALL girls are better snipers I'd seen your point, but they didn't.
#53606
Now this troper knows why every girl he comes axross in TeamFortress2 is usually playing Sniper. That's right, both of them. He, on the other hand, prefers MoreDakka over turning into [=xXWikKeDSiKKhaLoSnIp3rXx=] #5 000 003.
#53607
That's definately true for me, however I am the only competent sniper in my all female gaming circle. The others fall into the More Dakka category and leave me to protect their asses when they decide to Leeroy Jenkins my plans (ironically, one of them IS a Jenkins...)
#53608
This troper admits that he turned his niece into a gamer but she hates sniping weapons like the sniper rifle or battle rifle Halo3 but she's downright fearful with close range weapons like the shotgun, energy sword, and especially the gravity hammer. She is near-perfect on grifball where it's nothing but close range weapons. It's not the only game though she loves Left4Dead and her preferred weapon is the AK-47 or the auto-shotguns. She loves games (more preferably the mature games) and she's only ten years old.
#53609
Inverted for this troper and her brother... He's the sniper, I'm the shotgun/[=DAKKADAKKA=]/melee clearing a path in front of him. She still has better hand-eye coordination irl and overall, though, and isn't a completely hopeless sniper, she's just too impatient to snipe properly.
#53610
This Troper's science class did a set of experiments on this. Our research showed that, on average, girls had steadier aim, although boys had better reflexes. (I, however, was ranked near the bottom in both experiments. Meh.)
#53611
This troper is a pretty big gamer. Although she mostly is a big Nintendo fangirl she does happen to get a little offended by the pink DS owning, Nintendogs playing stereotype. She will say though that the big thing that keeps her away from the GamerChick stereotype is the fact that she can probably count on her hands the number of times shes actuly been decent at a game she's played. In short: she is an average at best gamer who just plays for the fun.
#53612
This gamer girl took the time to memorize Lucario's moveset, and [=SCHOOLED=] a bunch of year 12s in [=SSB=] Brawl. Granted, she did lose to a guy (using Jigglypuff, which added an amusing sting), but there's no shame in that when you can beat all your male friends.
#53613
Insult not the Jigglypuff for it is one of the pro-est characters that you can play as once mastered. Jigglypuff is considered one of the major veteran characters of Smash brothers.
#53615
This troper made a few male friends by admitting that she liked video games. She also got called a disgrace to girls everywhere by some of the girls in her class for the same reason. Go figure. Also, this troper's 13 year old sister beat her 16 year old brother in Brawl using Peach.
#53616
This troper didn't realise girls still did that. You should have kicked them in the faces.
#53617
This troper is raised by her gamer Dad who introduces her to Sega when she was three years old, until now. This is admitted by her gamer guys friends and is the one whom they're looking for when it comes to talk games since her early childhood until now.
#53618
This troper freely admits having been defeated, no, '''crushed''' by a female friend at Halo 2. 50-12. And I was in second place. She was good.
#53619
This troper doesn't have any game systems, but has played Sims until hours in the morning when you should be in bed and not be being a cruel overlord. Then there was that time my computer in school crashed, and wrecked the Commander Keen game I was playing online. DON'T TELL MY TEACHER PLZ!1
#53620
Too late! This troper is calling them up right now! :p
#53621
This troper is cheerfully obsessed with WorldOfWarcraft and {{Pokemon}}, and enjoys
Zelda as well even though she's never completed any of the games.
#53622
This troper loves video games, mostly horror, although she plays most genres except for fighting and sport games.
#53623
This troper first got her hands on a Game Boy in 1996 and never looked back. Just check out all the games she created pages for and/or
pimps!
#53624
This Troper enjoys playing Sniper in ''TeamFortress2''. She also like playing pyro or engie and shes fairly good at all three.
#53625
This troper can be found playing Medic on [=TF2=] with the username [=IttyBritty196=], although most people end up thinking I'm a short british boy until I open my mouth...
#53626
The guys always seem impressed with this troper when they find out that she plays world of warcraft, among other things. She is very much a gamer.
#53627
This troper grew up with her gamer dad so is really into gaming, much to the love of many of her guy friends who were surprised when they discovered she loved games and call her the gamer chick of the group.
#53628
This Troper has been playing games as far back as she could remember. When she was young, we had to choose between an NES and a Master System (went with NES), and further back, our parents had a couple of Ataris. We also had a computer as far back as 1991, which I got my first doses of text adventures and other fun DOS games on. Jill of the Jungle or Adventure in the Colossal Caves, anyone? I still play a bit of games (need to finish KnightsOfTheOldRepublic, borrowing from BF, I play Dead or Alive, Street Fighter AND Mortal Kombat) and seemed to impress her new group of friends in high school when not only was I a female who wanted to know this small groupof three male gamers, but who wanted to play, and was a furry and, well, female ontop of it. Should I say I'm slightly proud of this? They all have crushes, too. Kind of cute. Too bad I can only date one. I also play a it of Halo and Unreal[=/=]Tournament, a ton of [=JRPG=]s (one of my favorite genres-- shoot me if I say I love Atelier Iris as a whole, and Mana Khemia, Persona and Megami Tensei...), tactics games, and I think I have the whole genre list covered.
#53629
No one is as good as this female troper when it comes to survival horror games. Not even her obsessive gamer brother. I also play [=RPG=]s, strategy games, Visual Novels (with and without porn), adventure games, and {{MMORPG}}s. The only thing I don't play is sport games.
#53630
This female troper is a sucker for the classics and for [=RPG=]s. Early interest was brought on by her mother, who is a former Dungeons and Dragons player.
#53631
This troper know a few who play sometimes, but a friend/classmate of his whose cellphone's alarm is the Final Fantasy VII theme takes the cake.
#53632
This troper's sister completed a WHOLE lot of games, and because this troper saw her playing ''FinalFantasyTacticsAdvance'' and saw some attractive rabbit person, she became a gamer as well.
#53633
This troper's girlfriend is ''trying'' to be a GamerChick so that we'll have more in common. That's worth some points, right?
#53634
Guilty as charged. This troper particularly loves RPG's, platformers/adventure games, fighting games and rhythm/music games, as well as most Nintendo franchises, but is willing to play anything as long as it's fun. (She's pretty terrible at FPS's though.) It must run in the family, because her little brother has even ''more'' impressive gaming skills.
#53635
This Troper had his ass kicked in Street Fighter II (a game he has mastered) by his ex girlfriend. She also played [=SW:Battlefront=] and Kingdom Hearts. Current girlfriend doesn't have much patience for games, but she stills remembers when this troper lost a Puzzle Kingdom match.
#53636
This troper is pretty weird case of a gamer chick from Poland- a country where girls only played Mario during their childhood and later considered games as the worst childlish thing ever. Unless they happened to like anime (another rare case) they would despise you heavly for gaming. She plays since she turned 4 (1992, first console Atari 2600) and wasn't much influenced by male members of family as she had only sisters. Once per year she visited her family in Germany who always had all new gaming systems, when she only had cheap NES bootlegs. When she was 7, she used to spend her time and lunch money at arcades, there she saw Tekken for the first time, it made her wish for her own gaming console. At age 9 her mother decided to buy her... older sister Playstation or N64. Because she played both before she convinced her sister for Playstation. And so her 9 years of gaming-torment began. She was always alone with her hobbies, but it gave her some favor from guys in her class. But girls hated her, always reffering to her as annoying kid. She never gave up games though, and later when she was bullied she played more. It was that time when she learned lots of english vocabulary, from games. She also atempted some tournaments where she experienced heavy genderism e.g. 'You were beaten by GIRL?!YOU LOSER'. Until she won 2nd place in Soul Calibur 2 no one rescpected her. After she started to chat on forums, she went for gaming events, parties and conventions where she was usualy only girl. And quote years of pirating, searching, magazine reading etc. There is too much more to tell, but to comemorate her gaming years, she tattooed herself 'Devil' tattoo from {{Tekken}}. After she turned 18 she went to the UK where EVERYONE play games. It is a pity for her that she's not that
'special' anymore since she's not the only Gamer Chick here, but hey- she can finally play all the games she could never buy before.
#53637
This troper's younger sister is a rather better gamer than he is... the only reason he wins races in ''
Jak X'' at all is because she's something of a covert sociopath and is mainly in it for the killcount.
#53638
While this troper was quite capable of kicking the computer's arse in ''OneMustFall'', he never stood a chance against his younger sister in a two-player game. ''Especially'' if she picked the Gargoyle 'bot. Said sister also holds the family's highest score in ''EpicPinball'': roughly 3.2 ''billion'' points on the Super Android table and managed to beat several games this troper ''still'' hasn't beaten on his own without cheating. On the plus side, she makes an excellent team-mate in the two-player arcade mode of ''{{Tyrian}}''. Yeah, I know, we grew up on DOS.
#53639
This female troper was practically ''born'' a gamer, as her profile will expand on. Her mother definitely qualifies as well, playing D&D in the middle of high school chem class (and getting away with it) and also being GM for the pen-and-paper RPG most of the family plays a number of weekends throughout the year. Both of us also play {{Diablo II}} a lot.
#53640
@/{{Miso}} started playing video games at four with some Lion King game. Several years later, she got a few looks of confusion from the boys in her public school class when she said she got GuitarHero for Christmas. Now, she owns- counting handhelds- 6 consoles. Her Playstation 2, N64, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS are her babies and for the longest time she never left the house without her DS.
#53641
OP here updating. The Xbox 360 is now her baby and she owns a DS Lite in lieu of her broken old clunky original DS (which she was still attached to). She also desperately wants Xbox Live so she can whup some ass in RedDeadRedemption's multiplayer mode.
#53642
This troper has been berated by her grandmother to 'get off that damn game'. She takes her G-Pak in favor of a purse, and spends quite a bit of time playing her DS. She plays
Brawl and GuitarHero on WiFi, and can hold a decent conversation with the upperclassmen about MetalGearSolid. She can hold her own at CallOfDuty, and has several cheats from
San Andreas memorized by hand. This troper also owns 14 HarvestMoon games. Say what you will, but girls can be just as devoted as the guys.
#53643
This GamerChick was once in a D&D group with three other girls, and one guy whose character was a girl (actually, so many people called her a guy that we decided it was either androgynous or FtM transgender). As a result, our (rather large) party contained four female characters and two male ones.
#53644
This troper didn't start playing D&D until she went to college-- an all-female college. Now she runs a game in which all but one of the players are female. Gamer Chicks unite!
#53645
This troper is a repressed gamer girl. Parents really despise video games, she absolutely lives for them. Sigh...
#53646
This troper seems to be better than most guys she plays [=SSB=] against, if only by virtue of having played the game a whole damn lot. She absolutely hates the "Oh, playing against a girl, this will be a boring match" expression she's come to recognize on her opponents. But it makes their eventual "how does she keep beating me?" expression all the sweeter. She's also fond of [=JRPGs=], and always carries a DS around in her purse.
#53647
This troper's little sister is less of a gamer than he is but absolutely loves Pokémon - she says it "defined her childhood" and spent considerable time at Pokémon forums since she was seven (!!) helping people build competitive teams. She's pretty damned talented at games in general, often matching him even when he's put in more time and effort. Drives him crazy.
#53649
YOU try being the only girl in a house of boys who do nothing but zone out and play [=XBOX=] every possible moment they are not at work or unconcious. It rubs off on a gal eventually.
#53650
I couldn't imagine being married to somebody who wasn't a GamerChick. Luckily, my wife is. She plays different types of games and has a whole different playing style compared to me, but we understand our gaming wants and needs.
#53651
This troper comes from geek stock and learned to game at her daddy's knee, when he used to let her work some of the buttons for Commodore 64 games at the tender age of four. Some of her fondest memories are playing NES games with him, but by the 16-bit era she was more than capable of beating any game she chose by herself. He dropped out of serious gaming around the advent of the 3D era, but I still keep him up to date and bring my consoles around when I'm home for the holidays. *wants shiny lifelong gamer credentials to wear at formal functions*
#53652
This Troper cut her teeth on Majora's Mask and Pokémon and hasn't looked back. it was awesome in middle school since I got into pokemon one month before the big craze hit so i pwned everyone who challenged me (except this one guy with a gamesharked mew/mewtwo combo) currently I'm in team fortress two sniping the heck outta the guys.
#53653
Averted for me. I'm a girl, and I play video games. Not a Gamer Chick, not a Girl Gamer, not a whatever. Anyone who calls me a GamerChick
shall suffer the consequences.
#53655
This Troper has been playing games for a while now. I play Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal. I finished LOZ: Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess this year, beaten Halo on easy and got through half of the last level in Halo on Legendary. Beaten FF VIII, FF VII. I can issue a beatdown to my brother on Super Smash Bros. when in the right mood and I've finished Resident Evil 4 and Seperate Ways on the Wii. Seperate Ways without the Chicago typewriter. Now looking to get into D&D Tabletop Gaming.
#53656
This Troper is an avid gamer, and so is her girlfriend.
#53657
This female troper is fairly good at video games and always gets looks when she enters Super Smash Bros tournaments or displays the slightest knowledge about video games.
#53658
I'm a girl, and I like gaming. I'm not obsessed, though, so slightly averted.
#53659
This Troper's crazy-awesome, very sexy Romanian flatmate. He has yet to beat her at Tekken. Or Virtua Fighter. Or the multiplayer on Modern Warfare 2. He also refuses to play Army of Two with her anymore as the difference in kill-counts was just embarrasing. Although for some reason he's better at Bioshock then she is; God alone knows why.
#53660
This female troper only plays video games casually, and doesn't have the skill or patience for anything remotely difficult. Her (also female) best friend in high school was excellent at all sorts of games and loved playing them, so the two of them developed a symbiotic relationship whereby the troper would purchase video games, and ''watch'' her friend play them, because there was no way she could get very far by herself. It worked out pretty well, actually.
#53661
This Troper made his cousin love video games, and she in turn, introduced her kid brother to video games.
My uncle gives me grief about this to this very day. Granted, neither one of them enjoy gaming quite as much as I do (then again, I'm something of a junkie), and she seems to be breaking out of it, but for a good seven or eight years, my cousin was very much a gamer chick.
#53662
This female troper's only wish for Christmas 1992 was a Super Nintendo (sadly, she never owned the 8-bit NES, but had played it at friends' houses). She got it, packaged with ''SuperMarioWorld''. This was her first foray into what would become, as of eighteen years later, one of her favorite pastimes, although she doesn't really play as much as she used to. In 1993 she borrowed a little game called ''The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past'' from a friend of her little brother's, and that franchise became an addiction--she now owns (if the GameCube four-games disc counts, although she used to have the N64 cartridges of ''OcarinaOfTime'' and ''Majora's Mask'' before getting her GCN with aforementioned disc packaged with it) every single ''Legend of Zelda'' game except the newest (as of this writing) one, ''SpiritTracks''. She still owns her N64, has recently found it in her closet and hooked it up, and is now re-playing ''BanjoTooie'', one of her all-time favorite games, although she still hates
Glitter Gulch Mine and immediately skips to Witchyworld when she has enough Jiggies. This troper's little brother used to get mad at her playing "his" games, most notably ''{{Goldeneye}}'' and ''1080 Snowboarding''. This troper misses playing ''1080 Snowboarding'', which is probably why the yeti race in ''TwilightPrincess'' is her favorite part of that game. Oh, and when she and her brother shared the Super Nintendo, they had ''Street Fighter II Turbo'' and this troper was always either Chun Li or E Honda just so she could hyper-kick (or slap) her little brother's character into a corner. >:D
#53663
Addendum: I now own ''Spirit Tracks'' and have beaten it.
#53664
My best friend (who is a guy) reminds me constantly that I am a girly girl... then he readily forgets once I start kicking his ass in GodOfWar. Love it.
#53665
This female troper has started gaming at age 12, and is now going to pursue a gaming career
#53666
This Troper doesn't play as much as she used to, but in the not-too-distant past, she totally whupped everyone at Pokemon.
#53667
I've been playing since I was five and we got a NES. Who taught me to play? My older sister. Together we cover almost all genres of gaming.
#53668
This troper has been into videogames ever since she watched her dad play Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (although she admittedly took a long time to wean herself off of games where the player character wouldn't die. Long story). While she would qualify for the confrontational personality, though, she's about average in skill and barely even thinks of her gender; she was actually a bit surprised when her high school's yearbook writers asked her if she had any thoughts about being one of the three girls in a 20+ person 3D animation class. She's learned to ignore "girls don't play games" and "girls don't go on the Internet" stereotypes and maybe even laugh with the others (assuming it's actual joking and not a true viewpoint), where a straight version of the trope would probably explode. Aside from the yearbook thing, though, she hasn't encountered anything odd in real life.
#53669
This Troper has written a walkthrough on gamefaqs on a game's most difficult mode and is in the top 20 for said game on a site devoted to speedrunning video games. She's also one of the ten or so world record holders for a level in said game, though she did it by borrowing the strategy of the others'. She would be pursuing an alternate strategy that might net a .1 second reduction if she weren't too busy trying not to flunk out of college, and if preliminary tests hadn't shown poor results. She is also competitive, defensive of her status as a female gamer, and generally fitting of the stereotype. She is not, however, extremely tomboyish (hates pants, loves kitties, etc.) and is not hot. She also sticks to "kiddy" games because they cause her less problems with her failing eyesight and usually have SoBadItsGood writing.

This troper used to date a Gamer Chick, which he found rather attractive. The trope was oddly subverted, though, during a date at said girl's house: the girl played a fair amount of MortalKombat, and this troper (who practically ''never'' plays [=MK=]) managed to defeat her with nearly every character.
#53671
This female troper is the only girl who joins in the rare gaming sessions at her house when her brother has friends over. Of course, part of that is because said brother mainly has male friends. Still, it's quite satisfying to set their characters on fire in ''Four Swords''. This troper is also a
''zOMG! player.
#53673
This troper's specialties are [=RPG=]s, Strategy, and Puzzle Games (To add to that,
she is a brunette), but that dosen't stop her from pwning you at Platformers and Racing Games. The other genres she is average at.
#53674
This troper has owned a game system of some sort since her good ol' Atari. Which had to be given up to receive a Nintendo for Christmas. Which was followed up with a Sega Genesis, on which Street Fighter II (and its various incarnations) were rather maniacally played, the original gray brick Game Boy, and the black brick Sega Game Gear. Current systems? All of the named plus Game Boy Colour, PS 1, XBOX 360 (bought solely to play Street Fighter IV), Wii, and a Nintendo DS that was originally received as a joke; it was pink. And promptly sold to buy a black and red Dragon DS. The most fun ever had been playing fighting games at the roller rink (showing my age there...) and systematically beating my fellow male skaters. Viciously. To the point of having my arms pinned to allow the others to win. (Note: it didn't work.) And I'm a fairly average player.
#53675
This troper grew up with video games, and looks for worthy friends to add to her too short list in RockBand and Beatles Rock Band. I don't take the game as complete SeriousBusiness (I hope), and YES, I do know it's nothing like playing actual instruments, so don't come to me about that. I particularly enjoy laughing at the fools who think they can play above their level because I choose Expert, or pick Expert cause "it's the bass", and then end up having problems anyway. If you know your limits and play to your difficulty, however, I will respect you.
#53676
my little sister played my copy of mario sunshine before she could fully talk. She also broke it.
#53677
Do card games count? If so, then one of the top 16 Bakugan players in the USA is a girl, a surprisingly girly one, at that. I was too old to enter but can beat pretty much any of the regional champions and ''barely'' beat her.
#53678
This troper's best friend literally was ''applauded'' by half her class after she said her favorite hobby was playing Call of Duty and Massive Warfare. She also owns an incredbily awesome Ocarina of Time bag.
#53679
This troper enjoys Gameboy games like TheLegendOfZelda, FireEmblem, Pokemon, and Mario. When she's gaming, she gets extremely HotBlooded and constantly fights the urge to throw her Gameboy Advance across the room if she loses. She also plays LordOfTheRings (her favorite character is Aragorn because he's well-rounded and has the most CrazyAwesome moves).
#53680
This troper pretty much grew up with the notion that {{GamerChick}}s are quite a normal part of life thanks to his female cousin being the very person to introduce him to both computers and console based video gaming (and that was back in the 80's!). Thus he was astonished at the discrimination against them (particularly out there in EagleLand; do a Google search on a certain ''Hellkitten'' to find out what it was all about) when internet gaming boomed in the late 90's and subconsiously became a kind of feminist supporter. Still, watching any GamerChick kick the shit out of guys in any video game is an amusing watch. His most fond memory involved a LAN game during a CounterStrike tournament in around 1999 - there was one girl (the only girl in the LAN game) who was so good at Quake3 that when one of the CounterStrike clan leaders challenged her to a one-on-one deathmatch, she simply wiped the floor with his ass, as he only got 1 point the whole game while her score kept climbing. It got funnier when he secretly sent each of his {{Mook}}s one at a time to take his place, only for the poor slobs to get beaten black and blue just the same. This was followed by a multiplayer all out deathmatch game with this troper and the girl taking part as well as those CS clan members. After all the carnage, the girl had the highest score with over 200 points, this troper finishing 2nd with just half as many points, and so on. These days, this troper has a few GamerChick friends who share his passion of playing ''WanganMidnight Maximum Tune'', especially this young friend of his who tears up the track along with her dad and little brother. See this
video of her battling her brother to see how good she is. Most recently, this troper is into the GuitarHero games (though still not that good as to play above Easy level), and just a couple of weeks ago watched with his mouth agape a young girl shredding a song in the arcades at Expert level (though not quite as good as
TheEcstacy, but pretty close).
#53681
This Troper fits this to a T. I played my first video game when I was ''two'', as my uncle had figured out how to teach me to press the fire button (he did most of the stuff, I pressed fire). The same uncle then gave me a Game Boy Colour and Pokémon Red. To this day, I am a Pokémon fanatic, and I play [=JRPGs=], fighting games, etc. until my parent make me come off the console. I recently had a debate with some of the lads at school about SSBB and who the best character is (I argued for 'Lucario in the hands of someone who knows how to use him', and you weren't allowed to argue for Meta Knight).
#53682
This troper is very skilled at Role-Playing Games and Platformers, but she prefers the older ones (SNES era), playing them on an emulator. Subverted in that she would rather do single-player.
#53683
This Troper varies in her abilities with games, but plays for the sake of fun.
#53684
This Troper plays Pokémon and has gotten every Pokémon now legitimently. Other than Pokémon, I'm considered the best Brawl player amongst her closest friends and the best female Brawl player amongst her larger group of friends. I use Pikachu, and I try NOT to spam [=Down+B=] as much as possible. Also, last year this troper versed two older boys in Mario Kart DS, a game that she never played before and somehow WON the overall challenge.
#53685
Although I wouldn't really consider myself a GamerChick, I have beaten a few NintendoHard games on my own, and I like [=RPGs=], platformers, and the occasional BulletHell game when I feel risky. However, I don't really have anyone to compete with (and I don't really want to...) since a lot of the games I have are the ones that the people I know ''don't''. This is what you get when you first played a videogame at a really young age (and I never touched a system again until I was around 8) and your dad encouraged you to play Age Of Empires II.
#53686
This troper is a hardcore gamer, though doesn't play to impress the boys (usually). Though I enjoy shooter's like Modern Warfare and Halo, I prefer RPG's like Mass Effect (my current obsession). I'm rather picky about my games, as they need to have an emotionally engaging storyline as well as sound and entertaining gameplay. I've never had issues with male gamers over my gender except with the occasional immature prepubescent on Xbox Live and an incident with an obnoxious 10 year old.
#53687
Funny story actually. A friend of a friend in a party chat mistook me for a boy and asked if I was going through puberty since my voice had a higher pitch to it. His reaction when I explained I was a girl was absolutely priceless.
#53688
This troper likes to play video games, but she is absolutely lousy at them. Her sister, on the other hand, is an uber-gamer, and a pretty good one at that! In fact, she (the sister, not the troper) is going to a prestigious college to eventually go into game design.
#53689
This troper is like this in spades. I'm a unashamed huge Pokémon fangirl, and I adore Super Smash Brothers Brawl also. I also tend to be a Nintendo nerd. You can count of me having the newest console or Nintendo game the day it comes out.
#53692
This Tropette is a huge Nintendo fangirl, especially RPG's. Turn on SSB Melee and give me Kirby, I will kick everyones ass.
#53693
ThisTroper knows at least two gamer chicks from playing competitive Pokémon. My older sister is also a fairly big gamer.
#53694
This troper is a gaymer chick that played her first games on Sega Genesis. Under the influence of her older brother, she continues to have a deep love for gaming today and spends a large chunk of those beautiful summer days indoors with the blinds shut in front of her Xbox 360. Strangely, she hasn't come across many fellow gay gamer chicks.
#53695
This troper came for the
slash and stayed for the fun! Fallout, BatmanArkhamAsylum, Tekken, SSBB, Pokémon, TheWorldEndsWithYou, I love it all! Being called a GamerChick feels weird tho... Can't I be just a gamer?
#53696
I agree wholeheartedly. I'd rather be a gamer who just happens to be female than a girl who has to prove that she is as good as or better than guys when gaming.
#53697
Too bad you're outnumbered by the latter (or at least
appear to be). The AttentionWhore ones are why some people are opposed to all {{Gamer Chick}}s the way right-wing fundamentalists are opposed to gays. Although it's really not their fault either, since they probably wouldn't attention whore so much if there weren't so many white knights around.
#53698
This female troper is actually ''studying game design'' and is routinely the only girl in class (being a proud {{Pettanko}} and {{Tomboy}} who
constantly wears pants and avoids {{Stripperific}} tops helps dissuade most lewd comments). One particularly obnoxious male classmate said, "Girl gamers are like unicorns, a myth!" and the teacher promptly pointed at her and said, "Look, a unicorn!" Thankfully, the nickname didn't stick, but the habit of pointing out, "Yes, there's a chick in class, now can we get back to the StuffBlowingUp, please?" has.
#53699
This troper’s best gaming buddy during the salad days of the SegaGenesis was female.
#53700
To this day, I refuse to play anything past Pokémon Silver on my GameBoy Color. That and Super Mario Bros Deluxe get most of my attention, but the Mighty Morphin PowerRangers button-masher for Genesis, Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast and Mario Kart Wii get a lot of my attention, too.
#53701
Some obnoxious gamer dudes once sneered at me because I was playing 'childish 2-D game with ''cute'' sprites' therefore
I'm not a real gamer (???) (for such snobs, they don't know video games history very well). However, one of them was genuinely curious and asked if he could watch me play. By the way, the 'childish game' I was playing is SoulNomadAndTheWorldEaters (Demon Path). His disturbed expression was ''most amusing'' (especially after he learned that I also like survival horror games).
#53702
This troper and her dad make a dream team competing at conventions. Our first time we won a tournament and nobody saw it coming. They didn't expect a thirteen year old girl to play for real and that her dad wasn't just humoring her.
#53703
Grew up with Spyro and Crash Bandicoot 2. Moved onto PS2 [=RPGs=] and whatnot, then GC. Then onto Halo. Stuck there forever. And no, I do NOT regret my Halo fangirling. I don't often get creepy remarks--hell, most of the time the other dudes don't even notice or care about my gender, regardless if I'm in jeans, or a dress. I'm just, ironically, "bro" to them. Halo fans are weird like that. However, I completely fail at Halo on multiplayer [non-internet connection]. So subversion?
#53704
This troper has either finished a game or dabbled in it. Of course, its mostly been dabbling, since my cousin was the one with all the games, which I borrowed occasionally. I grew up mostly playing Sonic, Mario, Zelda, and Street Fighter games, but have also tried other games, like Guitar Hero, Tekken, and Soul Caliber. I would list all the games I've played in my life, but I'd be here all night.
#53705
This troper has over 70 DS Games (mostly RolePlayingGames), is decent at fighting games (on par with her brother), and has spent over 1500 hours playing FFTA. As well, she plays two games of DungeonsAndDragons every week (one a 4.0 campaign and one 3.5 which she runs). She has been DM'ing for almost half her life. She has also played Cyberpunk, BigEyesSmallMouth, MaidTheRPG , and GURPS. She has started three DungeonsAndDragons groups, one of which went from 3 to 11 people and had at one point 3 girls in it. And all of this she got from hanging around her brothers, who got it from her mom, who played DungeonsAndDragons, MagictheGathering, and Mist. This Troper is also working on making a
tabletop RPG with her brother.
#53706
This troper. It's her dad's fault. :P
#53707
This troper's ex, though she mostly played ''RockBand'', ''GuitarHero'', ''KingdomHearts'', and ''Left4Dead''.
#53708
This Troper is hardcore in both video and table top gaming. Intimidates the hell outta other gamers by the sheer crowning moment of awesome of playing both the English and Japanese versions of games. Also, double D tits, bi, too kinky to torture with a helpful helping of ''FinalFantasy'' (working on beating them all in Japanese), ''WoW'', ''Tekken'', ''EveOnline'', ''WhiteWolf'', ''MetalGearSolid'' ''MagicTheGathering'' and ''DungeonsandDragons'' with a backloggery of over 400 titles listed. Which, by comparison, is smaller than my SF&F/manga/comic book collection.
I am the Geek Queen, hear me roar, mortal boys.
#53709
During my early video gaming years on the {{SNES}}, I could never compare to my older cousin, who was practically a Gaming Goddess. Even now, despite being a lot more skilled at the same games, I still can't pull off a SuperMarioWorld or DonkeyKongCountry run with anything approaching the gracefulness she showed at it. Needless to say, I'm of the opinion that female gamers tend to be better than male gamers at dexterity-based games for the reasons mentioned on the main entry.
#53710
This troper and her (also female) best friend are like the BlueOniRedOni of this trope. The former loves EasternRPGs and adventure games in general, the kind that puts a lot of emphasis into the story. The latter, on the other hand, loves racing games, football games (she's bought every FIFA release since I can remember), the stuff that's popular; she also absolutely hates cutscenes. This troper's planning to make her play Persona4 for the lulz.
#53712
This troper doesn't really like the term "chick" but she does indeed play plenty of video games. My field of expertise, JRPG, Platformer, Puzzle, Action/Adventure and Rhythm games. Currently, I've been mowing my way through the Final Fantasies, I've raised a level 91 Blastoise (my first starter :D) between Red and Crystal, I'm pretty good at DanceDanceRevolution (I can play Hard, that's good enough for me) and I maintain a "games are for fun" creed, which I can happily use to deflate any StopHavingFunGuys annoying ego. This troper is also proud to say she was able to create a female Argonian warrior in ElderScrolls Oblivion, (TakeThat strategy guide) and I was able to even wow my brother with my performance in MassEffect2! It's nice to have a few bragging rights here and there...
#53713
One of this troper's friends is very interested in TheLegendOfZelda and KingdomHearts.
#53714
Check This Troper's username. Also, she's a fucking ''god'' at SuperSmashBrothers (any of 'em).
#53715
I don't like to be defined by gender, but I can't deny my love for video games. As a kid I was a casual gamer who owned a NES and PS1, playing games like DuckHunt, SuperMarioBros, DrMario, as well as CrashBandicoot, AceCombat, SpyroTheDragon among others. I had a bit of a fall-out after that, and it was only during the early 2007-ish did my game spirit rekindle through PC! Most of the genres I play these days are AdventureGame, ActionAdventure, and [=RPGs=] (BioWare fangirl, ahoy!). And if it isn't because of my overbearing parents, I ''would'' be a full-scale gamer, but they want me focus on my studies and all that. Doesn't stop me from playing in the middle of the night though- on my ''laptop''. I never play for competitiveness though. The reasons I play a video game are mainly 1) for the story and the characters, 2) to escape reality, and 3) because
I like wasting time. Heehee. -Tropers/{{Raverine}}
#53716
The single most funny thing about me being a gamer is the reactions of other people. I'm tall, skinny, blonde, and really interested in fashion and make-up, so when I mention my deep love for console games, everyone is unbelievingly assuming I'm talking about stuff like SingStar. Yeah, that, too. But also Pokémon, Professor Layton, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Ookami, Spyro, Super Mario, Kirby, Puyo Pop, Mario Cart, Klonoa, Worms... the look on their faces is just hilarious.
#53717
This troper's girlfriend will regularly and embarrassingly pound his butt into the ground while playing SSBB in front of all his friends.
#53718
This troper has been a gamer girl all of her life. Played straight when I was the only female member of my school's video game club last year before more gamer girls joined.
#53719
Hiya! Mostly sticks to handheld games for the safety of my wallet and will try anything expect horror. She knows and will advise people on what not to buy on videogames. Rule Of Thumb:
no licensed games. (unless you like the series)
#53720
This Troper has been a gamer for most of her life. She's been playing the Sega Genesis for as long as she can remember, got a Gameboy Color with Pokemon Yellow and DK Country at age 4, and has never quit since them. Her favorite video game of all time is Sonic the Hedgehog 2, her two favorite series are Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog (mostly the Genesis games, 8-bit, Saturn, and Dreamcast Sonic are cool too). She also enjoys Mario, Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Goldeneye 007 (Wii, never had a 64), Kirby, Kingdom Hearts, Carnivores, and various others. She still plays her Genesis a lot, and is eagerly awaiting her Pokemon Black she pre-ordered in July. <3
#53721
Pendulum was here. MassEffect, GearsofWar, Left4Dead, Fable, and LegacyOfKain are her various poisons!
#53722
This troper knew a girl who was better at video games than her boyfriend. She was also a {{Tsundere}} in their relationship.
#53723
This troper hesitates to call herself a Gamer Chick. On one hand, she ''has'' played at least one Pokemon game from each generation. She also played a number of other games as child... But can't recall ever finishing any of them. She may be on the way to ''becoming'' one. After playing KingdomHearts (partly because of her curiosity about it, and partly because of the Disney), she has suddenly found herself interested about the FinalFantasy series. Whether or not she'll actually get around to playing one remains to be seen.
#53724
This troper has played tabletop games (
D&D, ''{{GURPS}}'', ''{{Exalted}}'', and most recently ''{{Pathfinder}}'') for about ten years now, and is currently at work on writing her own setting. She also plays WoW (where she has too many characters, several of them
male draenei) and ''{{Rift}}'', and belongs to more than one all-female guild. However, she's not particularly competitive, tends only to mention her gender if it's somehow relevant or necessary, and would consider herself about average in skill.
#53725
About a year ago I joined a Steam group for fans of ''{{Touhou}}''; I met about a hundred different people using names of characters from that series, but I only knew one of them for certain to be an actual woman. Despite my usual luck with women(in that the entire gender hates me), we became friends and played a lot of ''KillingFloor'' together, until said usual luck kicked in and we stopped talking to each other.
#53726
Yo. Admittedly my favourites are Pokemon, Zelda, Bioshock, Oddworld, Sonic and Okami (they're the only things I play regularly) but you really shouldn't let me online, or play with me at all, I'm nuts whether I'm winning or losing. I'll pick up and play any FPS, old games like NES and Mega Drive (aka Sega Genesis) make me squee. I've had 3 Xboxs, 2 Playstations, a PS2, +5 Gameboys, 2 DSs, a Wii and before that, a Gamecube. You can thank my brother. Oh and I'm working on corrupting my sweet little 8 year old friend, her mother hates the idea of video games but now every time I visit she asks if I have my New Super Mario game with me. It's pretty adorable watching her play, she's so determined just to finish the first level.
#53727
Major subversion here. I happen to despise the Girl Gamer archetype with a passion, and, though I occasionally dabble in certain, relatively casual games, I usually suck at them. Those I know that fall into this are either total bitches or too
sugary to function.
#53728
THis Troper's little sister, since she was 8, has beaten my cousins, my little brother and me in Super Smash Bros. She even won against my cousin in public.
#53729
This tropette does spend a great deal of my time playing video games. Yet I subvert this in that since I don't really care enough to bother playing hard difficulties, I rarely ever play competitively or online. (Because you know,
I play video games to have an excuse not to communicate with real people.) However there is one game I break the "Don't Play with Other People" rule with: Soul Calibur IV. I can beat any one at that game. I once got my best friend's boyfriend to scream and rechallenge me again and again until I finally let him win because I was hungry and tired of beating him.
#53730
This Troper has owned nearly every console (NES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, DS and PC), and loves fighting games (Samauri Warriors). Also kills my sister (also a gamer) and Dad in Halo: Reach. Weapon of choice- rocket launcher or fuel-rod gun. Often criticised for my overuse of the jetpack though. Nothing makes me happer than a strategic discussion of various games with my guy gamer friends, and I will bite the head off of anyone who makes a crack about me being a female gamer.
#53731
This Troper has been playing video games since the NES days (was born in 1984) and used to get a lot of criticism from the family because of it. They've backed up since her decision to become a game designer. Not good at a lot of games, and she desperately clings to game guides. But give her a platformer and she will eventually dominate. Her hardcore Halo-playing brother still hasn't completely finished SuperMarioGalaxy2 like she has. That wimp.
#53732
This Troper unashamedly owns her Gamer Chick tendencies, to the point where the Frag Dolls suggested she apply for their internship program. She is still unsure if she should be proud of that or not.
#53733
This Tropette is one. She's not very good at Halo or Zelda and the like... but when it comes to {{Mario}}, she can whoop your ass in a second.
#53734
This troper's dad introduced her to video games at age two. She is now 23 and can beat him at the same games he first let her play. :)
#53735
Due to the influence of an RPG-loving older sister, plus her multiplayer loving cousins, this Troper has been playing video games for most of her life. Her female friends may think of her as a nerd, but her male friends think it's pretty cool. She is more known about her knowledge of video games rather than her skill at them, though.
#53736
I've been this since I was really little, when my Dad introduced me to the first Doom game. I grew up playing games like MetalGearSolid and CommandAndConquerRedAlert with my boy mates, and I'm a now huge fan of MassEffect games and have been steadily working through the {{Fallout}} series. I'll also hopefully be taking this to its logical extreme, as I'll start studying games development in September in the hopes of one day working with games!
#53737
This female troper was practically raised on computer and videogames. She was particularly good at fighting games, like SuperSmashBrothers and MortalKombat, and also loved RPG games in general. Her earliest fictional crush was Magus from her favorite videogame of all time: ChronoTrigger. It had nothing to do with looks. To be honest, it was his
theme, his flowing cape, and his
fighting style. You could say that Magus and ChronoTrigger addicted this troper. Since then, she has been a die-hard gamer who loves a nice blend of story and characters along with fluid game play, and has expanded to 3D platformers like the SlyCooper games. Honestly, this troper didn't even realize that female gamers were considered "rare" or unskilled until she hung around too long on TheInternet.
#53738
This troper has a (female, obviously) friend that is so good at {{Halo}} that Bungie hired her for it.
#53739
This troper first became a gamer after getting addicted to Pokemon when she was 8. Ever since then, her brother (who introduced her to the game in the first place) has shown her adventure and action games, more specifically shooter games. She wasn't too good at first but she's getting better (her aim's not that great). One time she brought home a rented copy of Dead Rising 2 and began playing it. Unbeknowst to her, her brother started streaming said gameplay on his gaming channel. Cue to an hour later, when her brother finally tells her and mentions some of the comments (like "your sis plays zombies games? that's so cool!")
#53740
Same troper as above but with a different story: I have a Gears of War T-shirt that I glomped on the first time seeing it in a thrift store. Nowadays whenever I wear it I usually get comments from guys saying it's cool that I play it. One time when I was in the mall with my mom, a guy who was sitting in a table next to us with his girlfriend and kid noticed it and started talking to me about it, even asking my Gamertag so we could play together. (I said no, considering he was a complete stranger, but it was still kinda cool.)
#53741
This troper has been gaming since her stepfather introduced her to Tekken. I can hold a conversation with another gamer, male or not, about most games.
