OriginalCharacter
#100151
I have my own {{Teen Titans}} OC (I named myself after her, and admittedly, she was originally a self-insert {{Mary Sue}}... But she got better over my four years or so of working on her story). Now if only I could get around to actually WRITING her story as a comic. Although since it's got CanonxOC in it with Beast Boy, it might get some real hate from Beast Boy/Raven and Beast Boy/Terra shippers (both couples I can't stand, and not necessarily just because of my personal OTP).
#100152
This Troper created an OC for his (at the moment of writing, only published) fanfic. It's a BuffyTheVampireSlayer fanfic and the character exists solely to pull off the idea of the fic: a cashier thinking about the Scoobies and the strangeness of their shopping habits. Link on my profile, I can't really say if it's BetterThanItSounds, I always worry my creations are shit.
#100153
This Troper has over thirty OCs for {{One Piece}}
#100154
I would think one setting in which OCs are perfectly valid is Pokemon, as I see the world as much more the point of the story than Ash and Co. Same goes for anything where you're essentially telling an unrelated story in an established setting that's interesting in it's own right, Rowlingverse, Avatarverse, The 'Verse, etc.
#100155
Part of the beauty of Pokemon is that in the games you essentially are an original character. You name them, you pick their team and you get to fill in all the dialogue for them because you never get to see what they say.
#100156
SenshiSun here, introducing a cast full.
#100157
My preferred way of writing fanfiction is to make up an OC protagonist (always, to some degree, based on myself) and stick her in my current favorite movie/book/series, then just have her interact with the characters and see how things play out. I've gotten a couple of really good fanfics out of this method; my current one is absolutely riddled with OC's, since the canon cast is too small to do much of anything with in the way of dramatic chapters-in-the-triple-digits epics, and it's so much fun to write!
#100158
Almost every chapter fanfic this troper has ever written has featured at least one OC, both main and minor characters.
#100159
I tend to do this a lot. Here's the list:
#100160
''Forgive Us Our Trespasses'' (''FullmetalAlchemist''):
#100161
Vengeance: the eighth homunculus, mostly a bitch, takes the brunt of gorey comic relief, and can be seen as sympathetic.
#100162
Raven: Dons a pair of glasses, typical bookish type, more reserved one, uses paper as a weapon.
#100163
Josh: TheOneGuy who compliments Raven, uses "rock alchemy", not all that bright, really nice person.
#100164
''Fullmetal Eds'':
#100165
Calla: An Ishbalan orphan with an attitude (and a sad backstory). Not much of a talker and not all that expressive, but gets over her hatred of Amestrians later on. Rounds out a FourTemperamentEnsemble with the Eds as the Phlegmatic. Eddy fights with her a lot.
#100166
Possibly more to come...
#100167
I have ten original characters as the heroes of my little fanfiction-esque Multiverse, most of them children of the pre-existing characters that already populate it. At first they were just four one-dimensional figures who were there for the sole purpose of creating a continuity, but then they grew personalities and got so fun to work with that the original group of main characters kicked themselves out of the universe and let the new guys take their place.
#100168
The first of the original four and the main heroine is Florence, or "Flower," a ChosenOne who was declared a "princess" and locked away by the regent of the kingdom because she wanted to BreakTheCutie and make her blindly obedient so when the time came for her to receive her special powers (in the form of a magic necklace,) she'd do whatever the adults wanted. But she found the necklace herself and not knowing what it was, accidentally awakened its powers. In the origin story that follows, her friends guide her in mastering her powers and she proves herself to be the ChosenOne by using her new abilities to save the day. Then she deals her so-called guardian a HumiliationConga, returns to her family and friends and gets to be princess of the kingdom for real. The subsequent stories are about her learning to be a queen. It's interesting.
#100169
Then there's Dixie, the seemingly Ditzy SouthernBelle who has done extensive studies on pretty much every great general you can think of and is the group tactician. She's also Flower's closest friend and the niece of the regent character, who keeps trying to get her to become {{The Mole}}, with no success. Occasionally she serves as a spy of sorts to let Flower know what the regent is planning for her.
#100170
Oliver, the BadassBookworm who knows philosophy, kingdom history...and kung fu. He has a crush on Flower and eventually becomes her VictoriousChildhoodFriend in a pretty epic RelationshipUpgrade. There's a MentorShip involved; they were always close, but they really started falling in love when he taught her kung fu and she later taught him {{Flynning}}, both of which ended up saving the lives of their respective students.
#100171
Rose, last of the original four, is TheBigGuy of the group. She's very protective of her friends, to the point of being a platonic {{Yandere}}. If it weren't for the others, she probably would totally lose her mind and goes into SanitySlippage when she thinks something bad's happened to them. She was adopted by Flower and Winston's family and has no idea where she's really from. One story is about how she and her friends go on a journey to discover her origins after she dreams about what she believes to be her homeland. She becomes completely obsessed with finding her family, causes a lot of trouble for her friends and abandons them when they try to bring her back to her senses. After realizing MyGodWhatHaveIDone, she rejoins the group and ends up saving their lives. When all is said and done, her friends offer to let her go out into the world to find her family, but she says that Flower and Winston are her family.
#100172
Tabitha, nicknamed "Blossom", is a young girl (9 to 12 over the course of the story) who's been BlessedWithSuck in the form of telepathy and the ability to see the future through horrifying nightmares. She becomes the target of dark forces because of this, which ultimately leads to the loss of her power. Not that she actually minds...
#100173
Christie is a {{Dhampyr}}, and proud of it. She's also a bit of a NightmareFuelStationAttendant and NightmareFetishist, seeing as how her first solution to nearly everything is to suck the enemy's blood (which she never actually does.) She can go out in sunlight, but loses her vampire abilities when she does so. She will also lose these powers if she doesn't drink blood, but luckily there are NoCartoonFish. Unusually, Christie doesn't have {{Wangst}} about her vampire half...in fact, insulting it is her BerserkButton.
#100174
My personal favorite is Winston, Flower's older brother. He starts out as a single-minded DitzyGenius whose dream of being a great hero constantly brings trouble down on his companions. Eventually (read: after his actions nearly cause a human-vampire {{World War III}}), he somewhat learns his lesson and before long, his stupidity is obfuscated and he's the most GenreSavvy member of the group. Is Type 2 VitriolicBestBuds with Christie and often falls victim to pranks of hers. He's the leader of a separate RagtagBunchOfMisfits and frequently has adventures of his own.
#100175
this troper has many, many oc's that he creates for comics that are shared among friends for entertainment. a few of my favorites are
#100176
Forate: an {{Idiot Hero}} and {{Chaotic Good}} who weilds a scythe. he also controls the element of air
#100177
Maloa:an adorable anthropomorphic sheep who controls her shadow. she is loved by every living thing she meets
#100178
Bamboo: a panda who is thinner than other pandas and controls nature. he NEVER TALKS.
#100179
and Len: he is invisible for no reason whatsoever. he's only noticeable because he has 2 guns and wears a top hat, a pair of glasses and a shirt. he also has the voice of the man your man could smell like if he wants

This user of the TVTropes website is an interesting case. Although I don't place my OCs in any pre-established pop-culture universe, I started coming up with them in kindergarten, and sorta... never stopped. In fact I have so many OCs that I can't even remember a large deal of my original ones. Basically, there's a full universe (OK, city) that I have to tend to in my brain. Guess it explains why I don't care all that much about socializing in the real world...
#100181
Sounds like what I did when young, except the city was a MassiveMultiplayerCrossover with whatever cartoons at the time I felt were cool, plus enough original characters to fill out bits I thought I needed. (Or when I'd twisted a canon character so far out of line that I just said 'hell with it' and reinstated the canon character as him- or herself again). The effects of this are pretty much some names I cycle through when I need original characters (based on either original originals or modified canons), and..well, OK, FurryFandom, too. Even tried writing something on it once. Fortunately, this was before I was online, and on an obsolete system, so that OldShame is pretty much gone.
#100182
Same here, with regards to the writing them down part. I instead focused on drawing my stories, or rather drawing the highlights (and mostly leaving out the questionable bits), which after about 6 years, resulted in a 7.5 inch tall stack of drawings. This is, however, not counting all the pictures and comics I made as a kid (in which I actually told the whole story, dialog and all), which should be an equally impressive paper collection.

This troper enjoys reading and made up a character who is Dracula's son. As usual his name is Vlad. Great minds think alike. A bit of Our Vampires are Different: Why? A few reasons. 1)He turns into a flying fox which is a fruit bat. Okay there was a book like that but I thought of it before I read the book. 2)He was born like any human baby, not turned (was always a vampire) 3)He is completely alive just has a really long life span (1000 years)(Currently 14 years old) 4)Vlad would like to go to church but can't get in. 5)He cannot turn other people into vampires (nor wants to) 6) Vlad is on our side but only drinks human blood (Don't worry, he doesn't need all of it) By the way, I found a way to make both Dracula and Twilight work. You know how people have genetics? Well, vampires have supernatural genetics hence why Vlad burns in the sunlight and Edward sparkles etc.
#100184
I have a few OC's for {{Touhou}}. I try and avoid Mary Sue traits as much as possible, such as avoiding serious connections to canon characters, making sure that they are beatable (to the point that, sometimes, they really shouldn't be winning some fights...), and developing them as the story progresses. Let's hope I succeed in that endeavour.
