Almost to a Buddha extent with this troper. He has repeatedly opted to throw pest creatures outdoors than to kill them. This backfired on him once when the mouse got loose. Our cat got him though.
#51435
Animals seem to flock to this troper's younger sister. At one point during a recent animal assembly at her middle school, she had: a wallaby sitting on her desk right in front of her; a lizard on each side of said wallaby, staring up at her; a hedgehog curled up in her right hand; a corn snake coiled around her head like a crown; a baby opposum clinging to her shirt (and trying to crawl down it); a ball python wrapped round her neck; a skink resting on her left wrist; a tarantula crawling up her arm; and an owl and a parrot on either shoulder. Mostly all at once.
#51436
This troper herself is a bit of a subversion with dogs (and less often, cats); the only difference is that ''she'' approaches ''them''.
#51437
This other troper is much the same.
#51438
Happens to a small extent with this occasional troper. Cats usually come to me for a petting or try to adopt me. I've had a couple of cats jump into my car as I open the door. Dogs, on the other hand, really don't like me.
#51439
This editor seems to attract animals. I tend not to act too friendly towards them, partly because dogs intimidate me and partly because I don't want to stroke them for fear of germs.
#51440
This troper tries to be one. With increasingly low degrees of success. ):
#51441
This troper finds herself being constantly tailed by dogs, and, to a lesser extent, cats. My best friend's cat in particular, as he is absolutely terrified of everyone, but will come up and sniff me.
#51442
This troper has only ever been accidentally hurt by three animals to date - mostly because the dog was playing too rough, the cat was freaked out, and the police horse bit the front of her, er, chest, while pulling her out of the way of an oncoming car. Other than that, they are on very good terms with her.
#51443
...Wait, WHAT. Please expand on that last one.
#51444
Seconded. Enquiring minds need to know.
#51445
Nearly all cats love this troper. When I first met the man who became my husband, he told me not to be offended if I never saw his cat as she was "very very shy". Two hours later, the cat was sleeping on my chest and purring like a fiend.
#51446
... are you me? My fiance's cat (god rest her bitchy soul) slept in my bed just 24 hours after he first brought me on a trip home from college.
#51447
This troper often finds herself being followed by birds. Heck, when I was eating lunch outside, an EAGLE landed next to me and was friendly. I gave it some of the stale meatloaf my Mom gave me. It had too much tomato in it anyway... :P
#51448
This troper has a strange affinity with Christmas Beetles, Jumping Spiders, and
cats. The beetles tend to gather in my room at night (occasionally killing themselves on my fan, but they still keep coming), the spiders aren't frightened by my presence except for sudden movements, and the cats are mostly affable and sometimes quite friendly, especially when I'm alone (one mother cat wasn't afraid to let me see her kittens!).
#51449
this is me with dogs as well as most forest animals as long as I don't make any sudden moves
#51450
This troper used to be on good terms with animals back in High school. He even managed to get a ''wasp'' to perch on his finger on cue once. Sadly, he seems to have made a FaceHeelTurn at some point, as cats seem to run away from him now.
#51451
When I was really young, ten or less, my dad took me to a stable and I wandered off a bit. I saw a big, nice horse, Zarathras, and petted him on the head when he lowered it towards me. Later, my dad told me the he had come worriedly to look for me because he was a wild, untamed horse to the stable man. Apparently, after meeting me his demeanor changed completely from then on. I'm sad to say I've mostly lost the ability, though I've yet to be on the hate-list of any animal I've encountered so far. I even stared down a cat once!
#51452
This troper tends to soothe animals, and (with a few exceptions) they are happy to let her interact with them. One time, a dragonfly perched on her hand. This probably has less to do with troper being somehow special than the fact that she adores animals and they seem to realize she will provide ear scratches/stomach rubs/etcetera. She loved to share a package of almonds with the squirrels on her college campus, who ate from her hand. She sings to animals, too. Seals seem to enjoy Mozart; rabbits like Puccini.
#51453
Many people know this troper as Dr. Doolittle. 'Nuff said.
#51454
This troper spent summers on her uncle's farm as a child, and her mother tells stories about walking into a room and finding her surrounded by animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens and the occasional lamb.
#51455
This troper had a gf with just a miraculous way with animals; she could have any one of them come up to her and eat from her hand. She was a talented equestrian with a great rapport with her horses (I couldn't call her a horse whisperer because I don't exactly know what they are, but if it requires an odd talent, she sure has it.) She's also had wild animals live in her home, and she's been defended from an attacker by his own attack dog. Personally I only have a way with cats; anyone I've lived with who had a cat, that cat has become ''my'' cat, even the aforementioned girlfriend's.
#51456
I was waiting for my friends to show up at a park, and made friends with a Squrriel. It even let me cuddle it which is very unusual and was temped to take it home. I seem to be friendly for other animals too, especially cats and dogs.
#51457
According to him, this troper's brother is a friend to all living canines. In eighteen years he's never been bitten or encountered a dog that didn't like him. He's currently convinced that Rottweilers are all big softies due to him stopping to pat a stable's guard dogs and them acting like a bunch of friendly, bouncy goofs in his presence. It has been pointed out that if the dogs always acted like that then they wouldn't be guard dogs. This troper has a theory that it might be due to him having the same effect on dogs as
Captain Carrot has on people, he thinks all dogs are lovely, the dogs know it, and they can't help but want to prove him right.
#51458
Apparently it's not just dogs, other members of the animal kingdom apparently love my brother, a good example being my nan's cat who usually refuses to sit on someone's lap unless they have a particular cushion on it. Guess who's the one exception to the rule. Ironically, my brother doesn't actually like cats.
#51459
This troper's husband. Animals just love him, even animals that don't generally like people.
#51460
Dog must have held a secret election, chose me as their leader, and then forgot to tell me. The buggers won't leave me alone! But it's okay, I like dogs.
#51461
A one-time instance, but this troper recalls her vegan friend attracting ants to herself while we were doing homework during a typical night at a summer college prep program.
#51462
Is this troper the only straight example here?
#51463
this troper has a way with most animals that is uncanny, to the point she has people claim she can talk with them. with a few exceptions she gets along very well with almost every animal she interacts with, the only exception being one horse that was abused to the point they only trusted their new owner and one crazy rooster that attacked everyone and everything. she's even had a wild crow almost land on her and taught one bantam rooster to fly on her shoulder on command in one try.
#51464
This troper experiences this all the time-- memorable occasions include having wild birds voluntarily ride on her hands or shoulders, being deliberately approached by baby snakes, and followed by a large number of cats, dogs, goats, and squirrels. She wisely decided to go into a field biology career.
#51465
This troper has a love for all animals,no matter what species, ironiclly however she tends to be nervous around them.. Except with
cats,I dislike domesticated cats. Probably because I have a horrid allergy of them, and I have little socialization with them for that reason. And due to the fact they ''eat'' all her favorite animals, for fun.
#51466
This troper has a way with animals, which can partially be attributed to the fact that she grew up with them (as in literally from birth), and partially to the fact that she just isn't aware of any danger she might be in. She has a turtle that likes being petted, and didn't know it could bite until the vet warned her, eight years after she got her, and has played with a parrot that, according to the owners, bites everyone it doesn't know. (for the record, the parrot did bite, but not very hard and only because it was startled by someone else.) She's mostly a cat person though, and has the (sometimes unfortunate) tendency of somehow getting cats to follow her around wherever she goes.
#51467
This troper once had a wild vole come right up to her and sit in the shade provided by her knee to groom itself and eat a snack. Then it touched her leg inquisitively and went back to the rodent trail it had been following. Also, while not as extreme as a few examples on this page, animals get along well with her. Especially canines and rodents.
#51468
This troper has a slightly evil version. She gets along well with bees, wasps, and hornets. She's had them crawling all over her, multiple times, and not sting!
#51469
This troper is something of a subversion, animals like me, and I like them and cuddle with them, but I'm alergic to dogs and cats so my eyes will water and I'll start sneezing uncontrolably.
#51470
My Mother was like this. Every pet that we had were strays that just came up to her.
#51471
This Troper is a bit unusual, in that the more disliked an animal is by the general population the more likely they'll prefer my presence. I've been kissed by a slug, used as a perch for countless flies and wasps. Snakes, turtles and other reptiles calm down when I'm around and I have never been bitten by any I've picked up save one extremely stressed out corn snake who let go once I asked them to. I've also never been bitten by the countless spiders I've moved so they wouldn't get squished by other humans, even the black widow didn't mind me. It does extend to more popular animals like dogs and cats, many owners have commented on their surprise when their "doesn't like new people" pet seeks my company. She's talked with wary-of-human ravens, and has had wild birds seek her out while playing a wooden flute to sing along, who then flew away when other humans came to see what was going on. She's also had a wild fawn run up her trying to get away from a dog.
#51472
Bawwww, slug kissies :D
#51473
It was awesome. X3
#51474
This Troper's dad falls into such a role, much to her displeasure, partly because he keeps rubbing it in her face by telling her about or showing her the latest wild animal that came to him of its own volition. Having had to deal with this since childhood (This Troper herself being a case of
Animals Hate Her, yet starting out as an aspiring FriendToAllLivingThings) has turned her into something of an animal disliker (with a few exceptions), which seems to anger her father in return.
#51475
This troper's dad is like this with most insects, especially bees. He'll grab angry trapped hornets from our screen and pet them before letting them go outside. He also has relocated several hives without being stung once. Annoying for this troper who is deathly afraid of bees and will go into panic attacks as her dad shows off the latest bee perched on his finger.
#51477
This troper's friend is very afraid of most animals, even cute fuzzy puppies. Despite this nearly all animals love her and try to jump into her lap, climb on her shoulders, perch on her head, etc.
#51478
I subvert this trope for the most part -- whether or not even a ''cat'' will come to me depends on how much it likes me. Whenever an animal is around that everyone else considers a pest, though, I'll be the first to suggest some manner of humane removal.
#51479
Eheh... This troper bawls when she sees those ASPCA commercials about abused animals. My mother thinks it ought to be illegal to show them, but she does feel that there's a special place in Hell for people who abuse animals. I agree. We have three dogs (two girls, one boy). The boy was undoubtedly the alpha male in his litter, so he thinks of himself as the king of the house. As a result, he snaps (read: bites) at me when I try to pick him up when he's doing something he's not supposed to. He doesn't do it to anyone else. I think he's realized that I won't punish him. I seem to have become the favorite of one of our girls for some reason. Like the boy, we think it's because she's noticed that I've never been intentionally rough with her. Our youngest... is happy to have attention from anybody. I'm not sure if my reluctance to be rough on our dogs is an example of this trope, or if I'm just subconciously more wary because of an incident at age four when a dog decided it wanted its jaws and my face to become friends.
#51480
This Troper's best friend loves all animals, yet doesnt like people, except for me.
#51481
I have two cats, one of them loves me to death. Other than that, I've only met one dog and one cat that didn't like me. The dog that didn't like me just happened to be a wiener dog. There was this one time when I was the only girl on a bike ride of five. I was in the lead, and we just happened to pass a yard with a dog in it. The dog looked at me with an almost smile, and barked at the rest of them. I have a habit of making friends with cats outside some times too. One time while in Spain (in a town with my family's last name no less) this cute tabby cat approaches me and is so friendly with me, you could have sworn that the cat was mine, not a stray or cat that was just "on the prowl" or something.
#51482
I may be more of a FluffyTamer, at least when it comes to things with too few or too many legs. I thought everyone could get bugs to crawl onto their finger so one can put them outside, but maybe not. And garter snakes are so cuddly! When I was very small, I went crab fishing with my family, including my aunt, uncle, and cousins, and was one of the only people who knew how to pick them up.
#51483
This troper is extremely good with animals. Granted, he's been clawed by cats at least twice (once because I stared at the cat for too long, another because the cat was freaking out as I carried it down the stairs), and bitten twice, once because I stared at small yappy dog that didn't like to be stared at) and once by a horse because he wanted a treat. The only animals that really run from me are ones that I haven't gotten to know very well. When I was little, I once stroked a peregrine falcon!
#51484
This troper, to some extent. Animals seem to be able to tell my moods perfectly, so this trope seems to only be true when I'm happy, in which case every animal loves me. When I'm upset they fear me like the plague. Part of it seems to be that I've always been very laid back, even when I was a kid I was never that super energetic like all the other annoying kids and animals, especially cats seem to find my calmness comforting.
#51485
45}} This troper, definitely. I have two pet cats who love me to death. ^_^ Whenever I visit friends or family members with pets, they seem to fall in love with me and become sweet and playful around me, even the shyest ones.
#51486
Where can this troper start? It's a two-way relationship. I work as a foster home with several rescues, and have gone to pull animals, spending time in the toxic homes of animal hoarders to convince them to surrender animals. As a toddler I tamed a feral cat who no one else could touch (she is alive and well as lives with me today). My friend's animals tend to tail me around and love me, and I've had abused, people-shy dogs insist on sitting on my lap. Animals bond easily to me, and even strangers have commented on this and told me to become a vet. I plan on working with animals, although not in a medical context ({{squick}}). As I write this, two infant kittens are sleeping on my chest. ;)
#51487
This Troper is a straight male example of this trope to an extent. It also appears to be a two-way street. To date, the only time I have ever been "attacked" by stray dogs has been when they'd race up to me and start jumping up and licking me, or the like. This Troper's life was even saved by one such incidence. While standing and waiting for a bus, a medium sized black dog can racing up to me, and started bouncing around me, so I went to a nearby set of steps and sat down, and started petting her while waiting. Seconds later, a car doing well over the 40 MPH speed limit (probably around 50 or so) suddenly lost the tread to one of its tires, which flew off and slammed into the wall of the building I was in waiting in front of - right about where my neck would have been if I was still standing up. And then a few weeks later, Mythbusters demonstrated that at 45 MPH, that tread could have gone through a glass window and STILL almost literally taken my head off...
#51488
Despite being a rabid meat eater, this troper manages to be this at times. Since I'm a bit of a kuudere, people are rather confused when I get annoyed at them for torturing and squishing all those cute, innocent, widdle buggies.
#51489
This troper, way back in his early years (I think I was 5 or 6 at the time) found a morning dove in his backyard. Not really thinking about it, I put my hands down next to her in an open cup position, and she jumped right in and looked at me. I was so amazed, I took her into the house to show my mom (the bird remained calm even while I was walking). Of course, Mom told me to get rid of it, so I went back out and let it go. It flew out of my hands in the most cinematic "release the doves!" way, that it earned me the nickname of "Young St. Francis". 13 years later, that nickname's come back to haunt me (in the most humorous way possible). A flock of ducks, a family of geese, 1 quail, and ''four'' great egrets, have all made their home in the canal in our (new) backyard. Everyday, either myself or one of my parents go out to feed them, and the last time I went to feed them, the alpha goose actually ''walked toward me and met me in the middle of the yard''! I'm not sure if I should've been flattered or
crapped my pants, but either way, the birds have definately picked up my "Young Frank" aura, they and dont plan on leaving me alone anytime soon.
#51490
Update time. That one family of geese has turned into '''four''', and we've gained two great blue herons and a night heron. Needless to say, my family and I have gained a miniature Wild Kingdom in our backyard.
#51491
This troper seems to attract cats. I've had two cats that supposedly dont like people purring. One was licking me and rubbing me and all sorts of things. Also, I'm a vegetarian, wont touch anything made of animals, have boycotted multiple places that do animal testing, and practically burst into tears whenever someone kills a spider. Spider terrify me.
#51492
This troper has only ever met one dog that didn't like him. Being disliked by that dog made this troper so sad that he cried.
#51493
This troper's mother is an ace with all animals. Her calm, firm demeanor tends to calms them; and it doesn't hurt that she has large hands, which are particularly helpful with smaller animals, given how easily she can hold them. She's particularly good with birds, becoming a fast favorite of a cockatiel we recently brought home without even meaning to.
