I see your near-useless US release of IIDX and raise you one prediction of a certain highly-disliked DDR SuperNOVA Extra Stage as a song in IIDX GOLD. I did not, however, predict it would be the normal One More Extra Stage. This troper almost got screwed out of a BMS (basically an IIDX simfile) competition until the rules were amended to allow submissions made BEFORE this was discovered to not be affected, and (if memory serves correctly) the song (Fascination MAXX) was still disliked.

Prior to the start of the current war in Iraq, this troper was talking with several classmates about the possibility of a war. This troper reassured his classmates, "Don't worry. Bush isn't ''that'' stupid." Guess what happened a week later.

No offense, but many Americans seemed to have suffered from the failure to listen to what Bush was saying about being a 'war president' in his campaign. Just sayin'.

This troper's father had a RunningGag with him as a child when they visited the pool that he'd float on his back, looking peaceful, only for this troper to jump in and "startle" him moments later. He'd also had a prior heart attack. Well, when the big one did come, he suddenly floated onto his back, and this troper thought he was joking around...until he didn't respond. He died hours later. This troper doesn't find that at all funny any more.

Similar to the ''Armageddon''/Space Shuttle ''Columbia'' one on the main FAM page, This Troper won a science-writing competion with a friend (and several other teams across the UK), the prize being a two-week VIP trip to NASA's Kennedy and Johnson Space Centres. At one point we were directly underneath ''Columbia'' while she underwent maintenance, and under strict instructions not to touch the tiles, because of the hazards that sweat and skin oil would cause on reentry. All I can say is: it wasn't us (Columbia flew in space (March 2002) between our April 2001 visit and the accident (January 2003)).

After ''The Dark Knight'' this troper can never look at the side of Aaron Eckharts face the same way again. Especially in ''Thank You for Smoking'' at 15 to 16 minutes in when the left side of his face is covered in shadow.

This troper was once in his schools music class, and such had to play for the whole school during just before the summer break. Since nobody in the class wanted to sing the lyrics, the teacher ended up doing it. He died of a blood clot that summer break. The song he sang just before everyone left? "Knocking on Heaven's Door"

During a Politics lesson, we often keep up to date on general news. One topic was a charity run in which Jade Goody collapsed due to exhaustion. Our teacher went: "Class, I've got good news and bad news: The bad news is that Jade Goody is still alive." At the moment of writing this she's on her deathbed. I wonder how he feels now.

We would be making jokes and laughing to the point of crying and the moment he opened his mouth it was like someone shot a kitten or something. Everyone stopped laughing and stared. This Troper was on the train mission of ''VideoGame/PaperMario: The Thousand Year Door'' and Ratooey's Nitro Honey Syrup had been stolen, along with two other passengers' jewelery (a gold ring and shell earrings). Ratooey warns that if his product and the jewelry were combined it could blow the train up. This troper would have paid no attention to it except for the fact that the 2004 Madrid Train Bombings occurred at roughly the same time he was on that mission.

This troper remembers as a little kid that he and his dad in the late 90s would frequently start Flight Simulator and practice flying into the Sears Towers for fun. After 9/11......

This troper and her mom used to make jokes all the time about their (neutered) cat's lack of masculinity, not helped by the fact that his original owner named him "Sweetie Pie." Little did they know that gradually he was getting urinary problems worse and worse (they excused his urinating on furniture to his being p***ed off: he is a very strong-willed, somewhat aggressive cat, and so they thought he did that ''only'' to p*** them off), to the point where they had to send him to the animal emergency room after the urinary problems escalated to the point where he was almost dead and hadn't urinated in a few days. This troper and her mom will never make those jokes again about Sweetie.

One troper managed to inflict one on herself through a fanfic she wrote for ''TsubasaReservoirChronicle'' which contained a throw away line about how "anyone else would have lost their arm for that" describing GrumpyBear Kurogane's thought process. A few chapters later in the manga, guess what happens to him? Yup. He loses an arm.

This troper remembers saying to her Politics teacher in college a couple of years ago something about how if Gordon Brown became Prime Minister, he'd be compared to John Major, due to the lack of economic stability in either of their terms. The Politics teacher laughed at her at the time, but...

This troper's sister, at the age of five, announced that she hated the family dentist and "I hope he drops dead." Nobody thought much about it, other than to scold her for saying something so awful. Two days later...

This troper sat up for an entire night writing a long essay which was intended to be black humor, about Kurt Vonnegut, mentioning death, suicide, injuries, and his advanced age and pessimism, to post online. Upon waking, posting the essay, and then clicking over to the news feed, the first story was about his death that day. Needless to say, the essay in question is now the lowest-rated on said site. (It begins with a quotation from Slaughterhouse-5 about "pulling corpses up like easter eggs", just to give you an idea of the tone.)

This troper lives in Florida and when Hurricane Katrina hit Florida as a weak Category One, we got the school day off. The next day me and my friends made several jokes about how wimpy Hurricane Katrina was. The next day it hit New Orleans.

This troper has an intentional, one during a tabletop RPG, set in the end of the 19th century. Somme NPC make a racist comment about a Jewish bank, to which my character respond: ''"Oh, please, stop with that racism! Antisemitism is irrelevant today, and has no future whatsoever!"''. Of course, that supposedly was 50 years before WWII... One of my friends consider this one to be HarsherInHindsight, the others were quite amused with the dark humor.

This troper's mother often tells of how she and her family were stuck on a small Mediterranean, Catholic island on holiday once. They arrived on some festival on a Saturday, so all the shops were closed, and they couldn't get any food. The next day was a Sunday, and in a Catholic country, this meant the shops would all be closed. My Aunt flippantly says that what with all this, "the pope will die tomorrow, and the whole island will go into mourning." I don't think I even need to finish the story off here, but, well, he did.

Browsing around the internet a few years back, I came across an old forum, with a discussion about office fitness and taking the stairs to work. Post I read was "No way I'm taking the stairs to work, I work on the 105th floor of the WTC, I think I'm entitled to take the lift." It was dated September 10th 2001.

This Troper's friends now call him a Harbinger of death. Two days before Arthur C. Clarke dies, he made the following comment after reading one of his books: "Arthur C. Clarke? Isn't he dead?". Case #2: He saw a kid he knew walking in the hall and said "He's going to end up badly." He shot himself a week later. The last case involved the Troper saying "I wonder who is going to die this year in our school so the Journalism kids have someone to dedicate the yearbook to." The Troper discovered upon entering the school building that a girl had died in an accident over the weekend. So... yeah.

This Troper was one evening reading a bit about Arthur C. Clarke on the internet and watched this video, where he reflects on his life at his 90th birthday. Then it gave This Troper a heartwarming moment. Merely '''hours''' after watching the video, Sir Arthur C. Clarke died. As The Troper watched it again his eyes became wet when Clarke said "thank you and goodbye".

This troper's family were driving home, listening to The Bee Gees. Happily, my mother exclaims how great it is that all of the Bee Gees are still alive. A few days later, Maurice Gibb dies. Congrats mother.

This troper attended a shadow cast of ''TheRockyHorrorPictureShow'' the day Bernie Mac died... during the scene where the Criminologist sets the scene for Brad & Janet driving to the castle, one of the floorwalkers suddenly yelled, "Is it true you were Bernie Mac's pharmacist?" Which replaced his usual line of "Heath Ledger's pharmacist" to get the Criminologist to reply, "It's true also..." This troper didn't even know Bernie Mac had died. And found that floorwalker at the next week's show to see if he knew. "Oh, yeah, that's why I said it." Lovely...

YMMV. The floorwalkers at this troper's local RHPS showing do this on purpose by using the name of the most recently deceased celebrity in the line "Hey Riff, show us ____", when Riff is about to reveal a skeleton inside a grandfather clock, with some of them subverting the {{Too Soon}} trope by then innocently inquiring "Too soon?" after the groaning of the audience.

This troper's friend apparently did not know Billy Mays had passed away until after I did the above shout-out, appropriately filled in. Nor did she know of the existence of the whole "Hey Riff, show us [dead celebrity!]" at all. It was... interesting.

On the day of the Columbia disaster, this troper was really upset about what had happened. At one point she saw a newspaper with a headline about something in Iraq and shouted very loudly "I don't care what happens to Iraq!"

In September of 2008, this troper was gleefully watching ''{{Futurama}}'' and thought how awesome it would be if they did a ''MorkAndMindy'' reference (hey, maybe even have RobinWilliams himself do a guest voice!). A couple months later, ''Bender's Game'' came out... this troper will never, '''ever''', watch ''{{Futurama}}'' again.

Also, two weeks after I finished my ''FamilyGuy'' fanfic ''TroperWorks/DeadConnieSociety'', which contained a running gag about people's disbelief that JOLT cola (and other sodas from the company) are still being made, Jolt+ Cola+ may+ close I find out the company might go out of business. FML.

Two days before Hurricane Ike hit, this troper posted on her blog on how the hurricane messed up both Coffeehouse and the homecoming dance. But what really put the icing on the cake was "Usually whenever a hurricane hits Houston, the worst we usually get is strong winds and the streets being flooded". Good lord...

This troper found an old card inviting "Veterans of the World War" to a ball. In December of 1941. I swear.

In that vein, the WWI memorial in Washington DC is hugely depressing. Not only because it's kind of forgotten and rundown, but also because it's dedicated to those who fought in "The War to End All Wars."

As I told before in GallowsHumor, father died on Christmas Eve (his sister died three days before, but still), and the day before, sister was dressed all in black, saying that she was going to mourn in style. At the moment, it was a joke, but shortly after he died, it was fitting the trope to a T (ItGotBetter, as much as it could get, though).

This troper's family were all over at the grandparents' house a few years ago for a party, and took a family photo - kids, Mum, Grandpa and Grandma. Because there wasn't enough room for everyone to get in the shot otherwise, Grandpa is kneeling on the floor with his hands behind his back. This troper joked that he looked as if he was about to be executed. We put the photo up on the mantelpiece and thought nothing more of it. Last year, Grandpa died of stomach cancer. The troper tries not to look at the photo these days.

This troper's younger sister went to the same school as Liam Neeson's younger son. This troper and her mother once looked through the school's phone directory to see if it was true, and it was; she remembers her and her mother laughing and joking that they were going to call the listed phone number and put the number in their cellphone contact list. Looking back, it isn't quite as funny now that Natasha is dead.

This troper's husband, lightheartedly, before turning off the computer and going to bed: "I'll just take a quick look at the BBC News website in case anyone famous has died or anything." And... He felt terrible, because he isn't the type of person who normally makes that kind of joke.

This Troper was having a bad allergy day a few days ago and her father joked that she should say "SWINE FLU!" every time she sneezed. Two days later, This Troper went to the doctor because it was starting to feel worse than just allergies. The tests came back positive for Influenza Virus A. She finds out today if it's Swine Flu. (Update: It's not.)

This may not be the best example, but having lived with a roommate who somehow believed House was a desirable role model and attempted to ''emulate'' him at all possible times, the entirety of the show has become a Funny Aneurysm Moment for this troper. It's a shame, as it is a fun show to watch, but you wouldn't really want to live with him, would you?

Only last night I experienced one of these retrospectively - at pretty much the same time as the authorities believe the Brazil-France flight in the early hours of June 1 crashed somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, I was listening to the Electric Six album Flashy, one track of which - Transatlantic Flight - is a darkly humorous song about....you guessed it - a transatlantic flight crashing into the sea in the middle of the night. To make it worse, this morning as I was doing some grocery shopping (prior to hearing about the crash) I was singing said song to myself as I walked around Tesco. I *wondered* why I was getting odd looks when I sang the line "In the event of a water landing, you can use my body as a flotation device"...

Ibañez, a Spanish artist, drew a comic a few years before 9/11 in which a plane crashed against one of the Twin Towers (You can see it here). Subverted in that most Spanish people, having a pretty dark sense of humor, thought it made that comic funnier.

I'm a voice actor, but I caught a cold a few weeks ago, losing most of my voice. One day I was watching a few BillyMays commercials with my niece, and she wanted to hear my impression of him. I promised I'd let her hear it after my voice got better. Whoops.

Similarly, I saw a Billy Mays commercial, I was like, "Sheesh, not again!", days later, I was devastated that he died!

This troper was playing ''DragonQuestVIII'', and saw that the Magical Evil Staff was knocked away from the person it possessed, and landed near a dog. I joked with my sister that the dog was gonna turn evil now, I thought was really funny up until the dog went on a killing spree, starting with the guy we just saved.

This troper once said, half-jokingly to her sister, that said sister had "Kirky hands" when she kept trying to put an arm around my shoulders. As in, Captain Kirk, professional ladies' man. (I'm normally very cuddly, but occasionally too much close contact makes me uncomfortable, since I've got a difficult time reading if someone's coming on to me or not. Not that she would be, ew.) Then I began posting the fic I'd been writing, where that particular incarnation of Kirk's hands-on approach to social intercourse (putting an arm around someone's shoulders and leaning on them, when slightly drunk) unintentionally provokes rape flashbacks. Now that we're both aware of that scene, it becomes hella uncomfortable.

Also, for my sixteenth birthday, a friend of mine made me a video with an introduction (in the style of the Criminologist from ''RockyHorrorPictureShow'') stating it'd be a birthday I'd remember for a ''very'' long time. This was the birthday where no one showed up at my birthday party (including the folks in the video, since they were twelve hours away at college) and I sobbed uncontrollably for two hours straight. Still a very cute video, but it makes me cringe.

This troper knew a kid in fifth grade whose father had cancer, and wasn't doing very well and had just gone to the hospital. During recess one day, she said, "Do you swear on your father's life?" when the boy told her something, and one of her friends said, "His dad's in the hospital right now, don't say that!" while the boy laughed it off. About two days later, the boy's dad died, and this troper felt horrible for the earlier comment.

This troper's mother had been in the hospital with leukemia for several months, and after recovering from a few bacterial infections, was on her last round of chemotherapy and close to a bone marrow transplant that stood a fair chance of curing her. On Friday of that week, my aunt and cousin asked if I felt okay enough to attend a play with them. My response: "Mom's gonna be fine, so will I." And then she died the next morning. The family picnic she had been dreaming about upon her release is now going to be her memorial service.

This troper's great-aunt and uncle moved away from Miami to a small northern town years ago, thinking it'd be safer for their children and further from things like violence and drugs. As far as I know, all but one of them have had trouble with the law, and one's suicide was likely inflicted by her alcoholism.

A play our old church did had a family friend playing a cancer patient who dies and goes to heaven. Several years later, she herself now has cancer.

This editor regularly squats down on top of a chair. At my anime club's screening,I couldn't quite see the screen,so I perched on the edge of the seat in the aforementioned squat. I noticed a few looks,then someone said,"You sit like L!". A year or so later,I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Joy.

"Doing a [name]" (it is a specific female name, but I will not write it out here) was a running joke in this troper's circle of friends, and meant that a girl would get the guy she wanted by pretty much clubbing him down and dragging him into bed. When the "trope namer" suddenly went psycho, started moving around with no focus, taking their daughter with her and ending up with sole custody of said daughter in what seemed to be some very shady court decisions, it stopped being funny.

There was an awesome-in-hindsight kid at my high school that everyone made fun of... I think because he was somewhat slow, though nowhere near the level of mentally retarded. He was friendly to everyone, and he had a lot of money, but was always willing to share it with anyone who asked to borrow. Even when people teased him to his face, he just kept smiling. One Friday, the class is talking about funerals. Kid asks the teacher if she thinks she would cry at his funeral. I lean over to my best friend and whisper something along the lines of, "I don't think anyone would." At the time, I lied to myself and managed to convince myself that I wasn't saying anything bad about him, merely making a humorous observation about how much people liked him. Me and my friend laughed at the time, but it became a lot less funny once I was given the news over the weekend that those words I heard him say in class were the last ones I was ever going to hear from him.

A friend and I were talking about watching KillBill on the weekend. One of us jokingly said "I wonder how many times people have to watch it before Bill actually stays dead!" Guess who had died by the time I logged back online at home.

This Troper made an 8-minute affectionate parody movie for an extracurricular activity in school once. One of the skits was a Billy Mays commercial parody. This movie was made one or two weeks before his death. This Troper can't bear to even watch it anymore...because the actor who was 'Billy' was none other than This Troper.

You should watch it. Billy would probably have found it hilariously awesome. He seems like the "Party at my funeral" kinda guy.

This troper and her friend were cheerfully singing Draco and the Malfoys' "My Dad is Rich" during art class, the chorus of which features the lines "my dad is rich, and your dad is dead". Guess what our dads were, and what our classmate's dad was?

When this troper was little, she had a friend. They would play Army Men videogames, or something like that, and they had tons of fun. One time, the friend ran over a plastic armyman with a tank; the armyman had been looking the other way. This led to a quote that was used and laughed at quite a bit between them: "I killed him! He didn't know!" About two years later, this troper was informed by her mother that the friend had been riding in the back of a pickup truck, and had fallen out right before it started moving. He didn't make it. This troper was eight at the time, and so was her friend. This troper cries whenever she thinks about the joke now.

This troper had a friend create a montage video of an incredibly fun summer during college. Many of us watched it in our group and laughed and laughed. A week after sending all of us a copy he died after being struck while riding his bicycle. They played it at the funeral and it is now to heart wrenching to watch.

This troper knows that this is almost unproveable, but will swear to his dying day that this actually happened. On the afternoon of September 11th, 2001, this troper's FOX affiliate ran two episodes of ''TheSimpsons'' at 5 PM EST, as it had done for some time. The episodes: "Fear of Flying" and "The City of New York vs Homer Simpson". ''Both'' Episodes were pulled partway through their run, and for about half an hour, ran a black screen as opposed to posting a third episode. You can believe this or not.

Not all that surprising really. On 9/11 this troper counted five entire channels that went out to a blank screen or a screen with a message of condolance, including the cooking channel.

This troper had febrile seizures when she was a baby. Her friends, being huge fans of DeadBabyComedy, don't really treat anything as sacred, so they would occasionally joke about this. (And in all fairness, I did too.) Flash forward to this summer, when this troper had her first seizure in almost twenty years and was officially diagnosed with epilepsy. Even these friends won't touch this joke now.

I thought he's been dead for months!". Her friend said that no, he's still alive, and we both laughed. About a week later...

We shared the joke at least as far back as when I was 14. She died when I was 21, after battling lung cancer. She went unconscious, and died 15 hours later. No kicking, no screaming.

This troper's old high school was ''terrible'' about lock-down drills. Every time there was a drill, which was completely random, no warning, and no announcing "Just a drill!" the whole class would be talking loudly, laughing, cracking jokes...The troper let slip during one drill that she wished they had a REAL intruder, so they'd learn to shut the hell up. Two weeks later...we had a real, dangerous intruder.

Similar to my school, except it turned out not being a real intruder but a hired actor...whose Holden Caulfield impression really didn't help make him seem serious.

Many years ago, when I was like 8, me and my friend were talking about something and I off handedly said that "epilepsy" was a cool sounding word. Guess who was diagnosed with epilepsy?

As a bonus to the above story, I was working on a research paper in 9th grade and joked to a friend that it was the first project I actually took really seriously and I would still end up not turning it in somehow (I had a tendency to not turn things in). I had my 1st seizure a short time before the due date and ended up not turning it in because I was in the hospital at the time (and I had a SadistTeacher).

A more short term one: during a trip we were driving through Wyoming and passed a state trooper who'd pulled a car with out-of-state plate over. We were saying that "the crooked bastards only pulled out-of-staters over because they can't fight the ticket, so they'd probably pull you over because they don't like the color of your car." At the end of that sentence guess what we saw in the rear-view mirror (hint: it wasn't an ice cream truck). It wasn't because the cop didn't like the car's color though.

This SeinfeldianConversation with my siblings (which was had in 2002) became a lot less funny and a lot more sobering in 2008, when Grandpa Fred really ''did'' die.

In the middle of the "MJ is Dead Twitter Freakout", this troper tweeted "Hey, at least we still have Billy Mays, right?" which seemed like a perfectly hilarious yet horrible joke at the time, but just became painfully depressing three days later. This troper also may have joked about Michael's death the night before it occurred... and he does not openly joke about famous people dying anymore.

This troper's brother-in-law was helping her study for a U.S. History exam, and to explain the Open Door Policy of China he used the analogy of US and all the European nations swarming China and looking for a hole to stick their respective dicks in. Fast forward a few years, this troper is now into Axis Powers Hetalia, and she suddenly remembers that lovely analogy. The mental image conjured by it is far more disturbing (and probably fetish fuel for many) when there's a human form to ascribe to all parties involved.

This troper once played piano, as well as the upright bass (I still plays the bass, and will stop referring to myself in the third person). Once, coming out of a piano lesson, my teacher told me, that, with enough work and practice, I could get gigs in famous jazz bands and the like. Me, being a fan of jazz and having recently seen Maynard Ferguson in concert, said, "Yeah, if Ferguson's not dead by the time I'm old enough, I could play in his band!" Guess who died the next morning.

Having to deal with university and a sudden influx of reviews meant I had to stop responding to the reviews I had been given. Most of the reviews read 'can't wait to read more later' and my general response on my author's page was 'I'll get around to responding at Christmas.' fictioncentral is closing its doors as of December.

This Troper remembers a time as a kid when she saw a certain film. She recently rewatched said film out of pure curiosity, and noticed some things. Like, the villain's name being very similar to her ex's. And their nicknames being the same. And the fact that there was a joke in the film about one of the things that caused her to start dating the guy. In fact, it was this joke that caused her to rewatch it in the end, leading to cries of, "What the F***?" and "Okay, let's just not go there, shall we?"

A while ago I began wondering if AvengedSevenfold had started on their new album and when it was going to come out, but the internet had little info on it. A few days later my brother told me that their drummer, The Rev, had died.

This troper remembers reading a blog about the level of gore people wants to see in the next CallOfDuty game. One of the comments, posted around May 2009, said that if the player is walking through an airport which has been the site of a mass shooting, he'd expect to see a lot of blood and some missing limbs.

When i read some old sonic comics, is saw moments that feel uncomfortable now but were supposed to be funny then. for example, Sonic saying "I thought this was supposed to be a funny comic book!" It happened years before CerebusSyndrome kicked in. In Sonic R, the sphinxes on the Regal Ruin track are shaped like Knuckles. Then three years later, we find out about Knuckles's past. In adventures of sonic the hedgehog, a lot of charecters get their underwear exposed for laughs. In the 3D games, we get Panty Shots of amy and cream. then an issue of the comic made fun of Sally's oultfit. then Sally's breasts got bigger, and we met Rouge and Chaos/

Doesn't involve death (thank goodness), but still an example: This troper has a good friend and former coworker who once got a pair of fortune cookies with lunch. One of them read "The possibility of a career change is near." A month or so later, she moved to another division in the same workplace. A few months after that, budget cuts eliminated her job.

After the division switch, it was funny. After the job loss, it was tragic.

This Australian Troper often liked to make jokes about people getting drunk and passing out only to wake up in a bathtub of ice and one less kidney, then his mother told him about a friend of a relative who went to thailand recently, got drunk, disapeered with some of the local girls only to reappear at the airport the next day..and promptly die an hour later on the plane, subsquent autopsy revealed that ''both'' his kidneys had been taken (aparently the human body can survive for up to 2 hours without them)

Possible future example: This troper is a Muppet fan, and, as of now, Jim Henson and Richard Hunt died in the early 90's, Frank Oz and Jerry Nelson are retired (although they do occasionally still work on Sesame Street episodes), which led to me at one point saying, "Well, at least we still have Zoot," referring to the last Electric Mayhem member from the original lineup (as of the second season, in Janice's case) who still has the same performer from then. If this trope proves truthful (hopefully it doesn't), we can expect to see something happening to Dave Goelz in the near future preventing him from performing.

This Mexican troper recently watched the Disney classic, The Three Caballeros, and it was hard for him and his brother to see the Mexico's scenes: such a beautiful and peaceful place. In the spring of 2009, this troper began a relationship with one of her close male friends. Her mother, in an attempt to calm her down, said something along the lines of "Look on the bright side - he likes you! Save your tears for when there's really something to cry about". And the next morning, there was. It turned out that the harassment from his ex-girlfriend, as well as other buried issues, had caused this troper's friend to be driven to suicide.

There was this troper's friend, who used to sing out loud this song (let's translate some of the lyrics: 'how much I want you to live, that your eyes were never closed forever and be looking at them, eternal and unforgettable love, sooner or later I'll be with you for us to keep loving each other...' or something like that. I'm no pro at english, you know?) , but so cheerfully that she made it hilarious. A year later, all of her classroom sang that very same song...on my friend's funeral service. And this time it wasn't funny.

At music camp, we had a series of games to keep us all amused. One of these games was 'pin the nose on Michael Jackson'. The next day... we were told that he died. Needless to say, we felt a little guilty.

This tropers grandmother got sick and had to go to a rest home to get better. She had gotten sick before, and had gotten better, so he thought nothing of it. After a week of visiting her, he told himself "I wish we didn't have to come here anymore". Because of school, he didn't have to go back to the rest home for three whole days. The day before he was going to go back to visit her, guess whose father came home to give him some despairing news.

In this troper's high school years, a classmate didn't want to sit through philosophy class and stated jokingly that he wished the teacher got into a car accident so that we left school early. Guess why the class was canceled about two hours later.

This might count as an example: Back in college, my best friend and I had a radio show on the campus radio station. We lost our show thanks to a professor who didn't like me (ScrewedByTheNetwork on the college level). The most prominent of my examples was after my history class, me, a few of my friends, and the teacher had a political discussion about ''our dependence on oil'', alternatives, and referencing ''A World Without Oil''. We all probabably "prophesied" this, but I think I jinxed the future when I mentioned the term ''Unobtanium Wars'' (as a reference to ''{{Avatar}}''). A few weeks after the class final, BOOM, The Gulf of Mexico disaster. #QUOTE# Me: Why is that we are having these...fan nickname..."Unobtainium Wars?" #QUOTE# Teacher: "Unobtanium Wars?" (At that time, he didn't see ''Avatar''.) #QUOTE# Me: Well, unobtanium = Oil #QUOTE# Friend: You'll see it in the movie.

One day, this troper's sister took a quiz on Facebook and got the result: "Anger management problem" (it was a "What's Your Problem" thing, if I remember correctly), and I joked "Sounds just like my crazy-ass sister" (she's kinda eccentric). She was recently admitted to a psych ward against her will, and was said to have, you guessed it, anger issues. This troper had one of these unintentionally in his most recent story. As the characters began to head toward the enemy's stronghold, the BigBrotherMentor of the Three Man Band was joking about how TheLancer should be wearing armor instead of her maid costume, because it'd be hard for their foe to take her seriously when she's dressed "like a ''SailorMoon'' reject". A few chapters later, she was killed in battle from an attack she could have possibly survived ''if'' she had been wearing armor at the time; which really killed that joke from earlier.

This troper wrote a ten-minute play two years ago which featured a character who was concealing his inoperable cancer from his friends and family. This past summer, her own grandmother died after a battle with cancer; she'd been hiding how bad things really were from everyone until the final weeks of her life. Suddenly this troper doesn't want to touch the play with a ten-foot pole.

When this troper and his family were on our last stop from home on a road trip, my mom was in the motel room watching a special on E! about celebrities who had plastic surgery, and they were talking about MichaelJackson. When we got back home two days later, we went to our local Target after dinner. In one of the isles, I put on one of the work gloves and jokingly said "Look. I'm Michael Jackson". The next day, we found out that he had just died. Yeah...

Not as bad as the other examples but it still counts. This troper and her best friend were jokingly discussing in class what I would do if she died, after me reassuring her that she would not die any time soon. A day later, this troper's best friend was attacked with a knife and was threatened with death. Suddenly the jokes seemed much less funny.

Arguably minor: This troper was listening to the Slayer song Eyes of the Insane a few times (EarWorms catch on fast for me) one day, and I got bored, so I got up to get something to eat. That song became a lot less fun when I saw what was on CNN...

ThisTroper had just read the AzuMangaDaioh Omnibus as of 1/13/2011. This had occurred and one of the characters in the manga happened to be a young 13 year old who wanted to study abroad in America...

This troper and his group of friends often hang out during the day at the university center, and on the second floor is a circle, with a railing surrounding it because of a roughly 20ft drop. Often we would joke about the "Pit of Death" for laughs, until one of the group members tried to climb over and commit suicide. We've stop calling it that since.

In a response to the question, "What freak accident would destroy your city?" posted online, this troper flippantly responded along the lines of, "A major conflagration not stemming from a wildfire", back in 2009. (This troper lives in southern California where there's been plenty of wildfires the past few years.) It seems a little less funny since that pipeline explosion in San Bruno.

This troper attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, and has a tendency to take online "all about me" surveys but responding in a snarky manner. In a survey I took in March 2010, I replied to the question "Do you drink water?" with "No, I drink whatever passes for it in Norman." Nine months later, cue this study.

I was at a David Byrne concert in 2004 where he lampshaded this trope in the introduction to "Life During Wartime", saying the song was "more inappropriate now than it was then."

I once saw a cute YouTube video of a skunk acting silly...then I read the description. The skunk was acting that way because it had a debilitating neurological condition, and it was later put down.

That reminds me of when I tried to watch YouTube on a very poor internet connection. It could take minutes to watch a few seconds of video. Still, I soldiered on, and one day, I clicked on a video of one-eyed kittens. As usual, it took forever to even start, so I read some of the comments. One of them talked about how the video had a creepy narrator over it. I got so freaked out, that I had to close the tab and go somewhere else.

Actually, a more fitting version of this trope involves the video of a cat who often wears an open-mouthed expression. A comment on the video claims that the poor cat's jaw is dislocated.

A friend from my high school once came to a show that my band played on her birthday. I'd written this new song that I decided fit how we felt about school at the time, so we played it after singing happy birthday to her. That was the first time we played the song, the last time was at a show she didn't come to. A week after that show she committed suicide. The song? It's called "I'm So Dead" and it's about those times when you're so overwhelmed by school or work or whatever that you just want to kill yourself.

Late last October 2010, this Kiwi troper who lives in Dunedin, NZ had remarked on her wall on Facebook about having no choice but to "canter to Canterbury" (region where Christchurch, NZ is) next year. A couple others made other puns on the name, including "just don't get buried!". Guess what happens on 22 Feb 2011 in the Canterbury area in NZ? Sniff.

I was annoyed with my friend because he hadn't turned up to our weekly Skype session on the 16th, so I sent him an email citing that nextearthquake.com predicted an M4.3-M6.3 earthquake would occur on/around the 22nd of February, and that if this happened it would be primarily his fault for having failed to turn up on Wednesday...

My friend in a Touhou group used to bear the nickname of 'Radioactive Loli', granted by me, since she is the youngest. Now she has radiation poisoning... cue me kicking myself.

A bunch of my friends on a wrestling board used to make fun of Wilford Brimley and his pronunciation of diabetes. Last week, one of my friends went to the hospital with a heart attack scare, and finds out he's diabetic. Suddenly our jokes seem a lot less funny.

Back in high school, one of this troper's best friends was a high stress workaholic. The running joke in our circle was that he'd have get an ulcer by the time he was 25. It turns out we were wrong. He was 26.

Due to a crappy Goodwill bike with horrible steering, this troper's mom always wound up riding in a slanting direction until she usually hit the trees around our neighborhood. Since she was never hurt at the time thanks to riding at a low speed and being able to use the brakes, my dad joked that she kept "crashing into the magnetic trees" (he's not a {{Jerkass}}; our family is just fond of self-deprecation and such - like how I joke that I might be the head garbageman someday due to my dropping out of school). We all laughed about it for a while, but a few months later when she winds up suffering from a torn meniscus due to that bike and had to go to the hospital... DudeNotFunny.

This troper and a friend somehow ended up joking around a lot about "taking out Japan" when discussing bad anime, and creative ways of doing it such as dropping the moon on it, 'cause the moon is kind of a jerk anyway. Of course, we weren't being serious. Cue the largest earthquake in Japan ever hitting that night.

This troper and some friends were looking at anime a couple months ago and I joked that Yuugi's extreme case of AnimeHair was the result of an otherwise harmless mutation caused by the radiation of the bombs dropped on Japan in WW2. Now it seems like just a matter of time before the nuclear reactor damaged during last Friday's earthquake will have a full out meltdown....

This troper felt bad after the earthquake in Japan, so he grabbed his screen recorder, played some Touhou Hisoutensoku, and made a video(albeit, he focuses more on Reitaisai's delay) of him fighting Tenshi Hinanai, a character who causes earthquake with Utsuho Reiuji. Her power? Nuclear fusion. Cue the nuclear problems.

I don't know if it counts but might as well put it here. Last November (2010) this troper was discussing about the oppression and corruption of the Arab World (long history), even claiming Gaddafi was the least bad of them. Cue February and March (2011) and.. I got proven wrong

This anonymous troper co-wrote a short pointless story with her friend back in 2007. It was set in 2015, and one of the lines mentioned a "Big Bank Crash of 2010". ...we were a year off, but...yeah.

When I was a child, ''MightyMorphinPowerRangers''. While Tommy's heritage wasn't a big deal until late season 3/early season 4, Tommy was the only ranger to support the bad guys. Not a big deal, right? Well, then I was studying American Indian involvement in World War II, and Goebbels claimed the Sioux were Aryan, believing Indians didn't have much loyalty to America. The Sioux, and indeed most American Indians, disproportionally serve in the United States military. Always have, since the Spanish-American War. World War II showed the first Indian to hold a general rank since the Civil War, and Interior Secretary Harold Ickes suggested that maintaining the cultural and even racial purity of Indians was a matter of national security. WrongGenreSavvy indeed, if not GenreBlind.

The rumors about {{Pokemon}} Generation 3 remakes quickly stopped being funny speculation and turned into uncomfortable territory for me, at least, after the earthquake and the tsunami, which were more or less like Groudon and Kyogre getting ready for another fight. Especially not with the joke I made about Regirock (obviously another Gen3 Pokémon) having a uranium addiction, which was a joke at the time but ceased to be so once Japan started having nuclear plant meltdowns after the disaster.

Once, when this troper was watching television, a {{Billy Mays}} commercial came on. Annoyed at the length of the commercial break, I yelled, "Die Billy Mays, die!" Guess what happened a few days later.

This isn't funny at all, but here we go: In 2002, while watching some story about the Osbourne family (as in, Ozzy Osbourne) on television, I was suddenly struck with a thought about Sharon Osbourne: "''What if she got colon cancer?''" Which she actually did develop and thankfully recover from shortly thereafter.

My friend's father recently died of cancer. When she got back from seeing him, she saw me minutes after I was on this page, and she mentioned how he looked like he was over six feet and 90 pounds. I had just read the part about Ayds, making this page a SelfDemonstratingArticle!

While not to the same degree as many of the others on this list, back in '07 this troper was writing about a dystopian Australia, and jokingly suggested that it would occur as a result of an economic collapse following the election of a Labor government. Following the GFC, this seemed a little less funny...

This troper used to live in New York City, and would often visit the World Trade Center when he was a kid. One time while my family was standing around outside, I was pretending to be an airplane (I was around 5), wasn't watching where I was going, and accidentally ran headfirst into one of the towers. Yikes. Apparently my parents caught it on tape, but it was lost many years ago.

When I was 7 or 8, we had just gotten a new cat. For some reason (I think it may have been april fool's), I ran to my mom saying "Mom! Mom! Diablo's in the dryer!". Of course, he wasn't and she scolded me for it. Anyway... cue 2005. Right before getting ready to go out, I had heard something loud banging in the dryer, and when it stopped I heard muffled meowing. I yelled to my mom, and... well, you really don't want to know the rest, other than that she died and I was traumatized. Though it should be noted that the cat that ended up dying in the drier was ''not'' Diablo (he's alive and well, as of writing), but another cat named Emma.
