TheSnarkKnight
#126565
Truth in Television; this troper was guided to this page by a friend casually pointing out the similarity between this and her.
#126566
And this troper just had the exact party situation outlined above happen.
#126567
In this troper's group of high school friends, 90% of the girls were this. This troper probably had a crush on each one of them at some point too.
#126568
This troper had something similar happen, only I'm a guy.
#126569
This troper suspects the above two tropers of looking for a date.
#126570
The first thing this troper thought when she read TheDaria page was 'Hey, that's me!'
#126571
Seconded, though I'm male ({{Skooma}})
#126572
Thirded , This troper even had that haircut through most of high school, along with the glasses...
#126573
A girl I knew in high school told me I was just like Daria (even though I'm a guy). I've never seen the show, though.
#126574
I have a friend that embodies this trope right down to the glasses.
#126575
This Troper's High School had a ''very'' similar award to the 'Achievement in the face of almost complete Misanthropy'
#126576
This Troper ''was'' the Daria in his high school class.
#126577
This troper is very much the Daria in her school, except for the glasses.
#126578
This troper was a Daria before there ''was'' a Daria.
#126579
Ditto.
#126580
This troper and her friends in high school were ALL little Darias to a certain extent...though I was undoubtedly the Most Triumphant Example. None of us can stand each other now, for various reasons. My three best friends now are the bubbly, eternally optimistic CloudCuckooLander, the charismatic HeroicSociopath, and the OnlySaneMan. I'm still the SnarkKnight. I'm still as cynical, sarcastic, and (honestly) happily self-absorbed as ever, and though my life has changed drastically I have remained at heart the same.
#126581
There's a reason This Troper's mother nick-named her "Daria" in recent years.
#126582
This troper was once called "Darian" by a few fellow players in an MMORPG that he played. Of course I'm not always like this...was a lot more like that during Jr. High and High school when this troper's art teacher told him to watch Daria on "The N" after doing an art piece that had a huge crack at some Artists for an assignment. I swing in and out of it.
#126583
This troper used to think of himself like this, but has become resigned to the fact that at heart, he's just a smartass.
#126584
This troper has been a male Daria since his teens, and his brother was Quinn (though he's the older one). Our mother loved watching ''Daria'' for this exact reason. Now in his 20's, this troper is more socially graceful but still finds himself watching from the outside more often than not.
#126585
Hell, this male troper says to himslef everyday, "I hate everything and everybody" on his way to school... although he is less snarky than he would like to be.
#126586
This troper seconds that comment.
#126587
LockonLockon is half male version of this, half GeniusDitz.
#126588
This Troper was his school's Daria, down to the presense of jerk jocks who took everything he said seriously, and even had a friend resembling Jody from the show Daria. He was drawn to the show largely because it mirrored his high school life so much.
#126589
This troper acts like this sometimes. Her mother was like this when she was a teenager, too. And so is her (by which I mean this troper's) sister. Not only that, but her two-year-old sister seems to be growing up to be like this as well...
#126590
This Troper was mocked with this in school (glasses, no makeup/hair/flashy clothes, rather monotone voice). It's probably the reason I didn't like the show very much, although I should probably be greatful no one associated me with Tiffany.
#126591
This troper is so sarcastic, she makes {{Juno}} look boring.
#126592
This troper 's deadpan retorts earned her a comparison to THE Daria by a classmate in high school.
#126593
Dear. God. This is me.
#126594
The new version? Perfect fit for this troper; previously, the closest trope would be a male BrokenBird.
#126595
The only possible explanation for this is that I am being followed by spy cameras. Seriously, snarks every ten seconds at everything, stands on his own at social events or just paces, and is negative towards everything, but has a load of {{Old Shame}}s, suffers from TheBGrade, and freely admits to being even worse at everything than everyone else, despite any level of praise? Wooooow.
#126596
This Troper adds herself to the list.
#126597
I was like this in high school. I was always known for being an angry, cynical person who didn't like anything that didn't fit to his standards. Strangely enough, people tried to like me even when I considered them idiots; they put me on the student council and I immediately became their Devil's Advocate.
#126598
This troper is almost the perfect SnarkKnight: extremely cynical, isolated from most people by his intellect, and has ridiculously high standards (not only in the intellect department; while he has only a few moral standards, they are almost impossible to meet). The twist is that he has learned not to apply his standards to other people in order to value them at least a bit; he only applies them to himself.
#126599
@/SunnyV can be like this sometimes. Her sister, however, is a better example. Also, her mom was like this in high school.
#126600
This troper pretty much embodies this trope.
#126601
IntelligenceEqualsIsolation? Oh so check. World-weary disdain for everyone, herself included? Check. Mortal enemy is TheLibby? Check. Impossibly high standards? Check. Glasses a la Daria? Check. Bonus points for almost always being plugged into her iPod, listening to depressing music.
#126602
This troper has learnt that a large quantity of alcohol is an excellent way to avert this trope; although it comes at a great cost...about £1 per 1.75 units if you buy spirits from supermarkets.
#126603
The fact that this trope is dominated by women surprised the HELL out of me, because this describes me perfectly. I hate everyone I find to be a sub-par human being, myself included. Wish I had more chances to snark, though.
#126604
This Troper is sorta like a Diet Snark Knight, but his good friend Zaros is this '''''hardcore'''''. While this Troper can at least partly able to stand himself and a select few Earthlings, Zaros has this otherworldly disdain for everyone and every''thing''. Except Russia, for some reason. However, this Troper tends to snark more often than his friend.
#126605
Subverted with this troper.
#126606
This (Male) Troper became a Snarker after years of bullying and chronic stupidity from humans around me. Next time someone says "Just Ignore them", I'll answer "Sure! I'll start by the ones who keep giving stupid and useless clichéd advices right now!". Chances are, however, the person won't get the hint. Truth be told, I've been snarking pretty much at everyone annoying me. For example, this annoying girl keeps saying to me "I want to give it to you"(IfYouKnowWhatIMean), so I just answer "Good. Start by your money, then your complete and utter silence, since these are the only of actual worth you can give me!". There's another guy who keeps saying I'm rich, so I snark "If I was rich, I would be in Hawaii, drinking a Pina Colada, swimming and watching those Hawaii Dancers, instead of staying in this god-forsaken school with your intelligence-deprived monkeys!". Really, Brazil is full of suckers, so I might just as well deliver snarks around to my leisure.
#126607
And recently, I have started to simply closing the class's door on the face of anyone coming to annoy me with stupid comments. One of them asked "What did I do?!" like an idiot, to which I answered "You exist." before closing it on his face. Made me feel VERY satisfied!
#126608
I'm a male example TheSnarkKnight. I'm very cynical, thinking HumansAreBastards including myself, which resulted in a ReasonYouSuckSpeech. I'm SurroundedByIdiots which causes a little bit of IntelligenceEqualsIsolation, which in reality I'm not that smart, they're just that dumb. While some may praise me for having supposed "high" standards and I'm just being hard on myself, others view me as an example of GoodIsNotNice. Finally, I have very wry sense of humor which is the only reason people will listen to what I have to say.
#126609
So what does it tell about me if the temptation to chastise the two above posters for their self-aggrandizing run-of-the-mill misantropy is enough to write a self-aggrandizing Troper Tales addition?
#126610
I say, welcome to the club, sis. No snarker can be be without a bit of narcissism.
#126611
As the troper who posted the above example, I'm going have to agree with this. My standards being called "high" does gives a sense of superiority. Well, at least until I realize how much I suck and any praise I get is unwarranted.
#126612
This troper came upon this trope and thought: That's me. This trope was written about me.
#126613
This troper too. I even have a wanna-be BigManOnCampus trying to defrost me, and of course he's failing utterly.
#126614
This troper took "The heart of man is infinite in wickedness; whom therefore may know it?" to heart.
#126615
Wow. That's...kind of me. One of my friends said I needed to lower my standards a whole lot more after I snarked about yet another person's stupidity. It's true, I really do.
#126616
This Troper qualifies more recently (she supposes) in that after about 16 years of being picked on by classmates and family alike she's essentially turned into a complete cynic who believes that people are intrinsically judgmental bastards and so proceeds to snark the hell out of them. Not quite IntelligenceEqualsIsolation, because she's managed to find and befriend a few people who aren't idiots. Said friends are attempting to cure her of her cynicism, but all things considered, it's not working.
#126617
I owe all my cynicism to disillusioned idealism. Seriously, the worst things that can and has happened to me rolls off my back, but my disappointment with human nature just accumulates; and then I've done things that have left me disgusted with myself. People once believed I would become a priest, but that's been soured by organized religion and the "instant salvation clause" that permits and even encourages the worst traits in it's adherents.
#126618
Holy crap, are you like a paralell dimension me, or something?
#126619
I can get very caustic as well, and I almost never do it in jest. In fact, I hate it when people insult each other "just for fun", which is in fact always a play for dominance and as such automatically obscene (here I go again). When someone says something like "you're what's wrong with the world" I expect them to really mean that the person or object they're addressing is, in their opinion, at least ''part'' of what's wrong with the world. - Rottenvenetic

... So my family was right. I do have an internet shrine highlighting everything that they find over-bearing about me. Deadpan snarking aside, as much as I criticize everyone and everything around me, I fully admit that I try to hold myself to the same standard, which I go even further to admit that this attitude ''does'' hold me back from some stuff in life. But I'm learning to be more pragmatic, as to enable myself to get out and experience life more, but to also degenerate humanity and their idiotic antics all the way.
