7}} This Troper, after drinking a soda, will spend hours chewing on the straw. He will also chew on pens and the wires to his headphones.
#100026
He's also got a really gummy strap to his watch that he is chewing on as he types this.
#100028
This troper has a horrible habit of chewing on popsicle sticks, pen caps, and, her personal favorite--those little rings that keep the bottle caps attached to the rest of the bottle until you twist them off. She loves chewing on those little rings..
#100029
Are we related? I love those things. Rubber Bands are great comfort food. I bite my nails a lot, leaving behind hands like a builder. And my fingers, every now and again.
#100030
This troper is constantly sticking random smallish objects in her mouth, tapping them against her teeth (generally to the beat of a song), and brushing them against her lips. She also chain-chews gum when she gets it. However, she doesn't chew on non-food objects because she doesn't want to either damage her teeth if it's harder or leave bite marks in the thing she had in her mouth if it's softer. She also has a habit of putting her left hand up against the lower half of her face such that the prominent first knuckle of her middle finger goes in her mouth.
#100031
This troper has a tendency to gnaw on the caps of pens until they're really somewhat frayed plastic tubes. If she has no pen, she has been known to chew absently on her hand.
#100032
This troper will chew on permanent markers, straws, pencils, pens, nail clippers, pipe cleaners, and ''her own shirt collar.''
#100033
This troper used to have a shirt with a pair of ribbons on the collar. They were supposed to be tied into a bow. Instead, this troper always undid them to suck on them.
#100034
This troper has, for most of his life, nibbled on the collars of his shirts to the point of destroying them. He's slowly getting better.
#100035
This troper, however, is ''not.'' He chews on his shirt collar, pens, pencils, those little rings mentioned above, his knuckle (left hand, pointer finger, always) glass, tic-tac box lids...tic-tac boxes in general (until they crack), his phone, the edge of cups, straws...papers, books, wrappers...hand towels, the tops to bottles of pills, the boxes games come in...there's more. Lots more. But...yeah...
#100036
Up until around middle school, this troper would suck on her shirt collars, although only if she didn't care that much about the shirt.
#100037
This Troper is very, ''VERY'' prone to this. If I'm handling things, or crafting, or drawing something will inevitably end in my mouth. Usually pencils or seam rippers or the like. I also absentmindedly chew on EVERYTHING, such as headphone cords, pencils, debit cards, hair, mp3 players, sleeve cuffs, zipper pulls, USB drives, the inside of my lips, etc. (I mutilate headphones on a regular business this way.) I have to be very careful and make a conscious effort to not do this with things like money. I also like to lick and suck on my teeth.
#100038
This troper chews on: pens, pencils, erasers, shirt sleeves, her school ID, house keys, car keys, her cell phone, her own hand, her earphone cord, plastic straws, plastic wrappers, tin foil (not now, thankfully), the lip of plastic souvenir cups, necklaces, bracelets, the strap of her purse, her {{Pokemon}} figurines, the container for her Pokemon figurines, her iPod belt clip, and her best friend's shoulder. I probably forgot some things...
#100039
This troper loves the lollipops with paper sticks, so that she can chew on them when she's done the candy part. Occasionally, there's a bit of flavour residue left and it's just so good.
#100040
This troper is so glad that someone besides herself does this as well. Sometimes she goes to extremes and she ends up eating it too. She also has a habit of chewing on plastic straws (long after I'm done with them), necklaces, pens and pencils. She will even borrow someone's pen/pencil and ''subconsciously chew on it''. Nowadays, this troper prefers toothpicks. Good for solving the chewing problem, getting gunk out of your teeth, and making this troper feel {{Badass}}.
#100041
This troper chews on lollipop sticks, juice-box straws and toothpicks long after she's finished using them. she's doing it right now. Also, pens and pencils should be wary whilst she's thinking.
#100042
This troper used to chew anything small enough to fit his mouth, including bottle caps, those little things from soda cans, etc. He doesn't do it anymore, but now he is a nasty smoker.
#100043
This troper will chew on his hair, his shirt-collar, the first knuckle of his finger, and any pens, pencils, straws, or popsicle sticks that get anywhere near him.
#100044
Seriously. This troper is eating cough drops...and chewing the wrapper. And the bag it came in. He also has a roll of tape for the express purpose of chewing upon. And his shirt collars are not safe either...
Worse still, smoking is practically hard-coded into his genetics...and he is desperately trying to avoid it, but if he can't find something to chew on consistently, he'll probably have to resort to smoking. Then getting his ass kicked by the rest of his family
for being stupid.
#100045
This troper went through about ten pens a month in secondary school because of this. Not so bad in sixth form and university, where chewing gum was allowed.
#100046
...and I'm actually chewing on my earphone cable right now. :/
#100047
This troper will chew on many '''''many''''' things, but especially likes sucking his thumb a la L.
#100048
This troper has several mechanical pencils designed to look like pens. Part of the illusion is that the eraser is covered with a plastic cap to make it look like a clicker. This troper has nowhere better to keep the cap when he's writing, so he chews on it.
#100049
This Troper chews on straws and toothpicks. It used to be worse though; she chewed on her shirts and even had a pillow she carried around that she resulted to a pile of rags. It also took her forever to stop sucking her thumb.
#100050
This troper is ''at this very moment'' chewing on the earpieces of his glasses.
#100051
This troper chews on the insides of her lips and cheeks (did you know you can pull off little pieces of skin?). She also cross-stiches a lot, so the thread cut-offs go into her mouth occasionally.
#100052
This Troper does that as well (biting little bits of skin off my cheeks) and it didn't seem the least bit weird until I thought about it like that. I also tend to pull little flakes of skin off my lips.
#100053
Oh man. You too? It's an awful habit and makes your lips sore as anything but it's just ''so hard not to''. Especially if they tend to be chapped, as mine inevitably are.
#100054
This troper gnaws idly on pens and DS styli. He also has an RP character that eats pencils, but that's
another trope entirely.
#100055
This troper, when eating candy, eats everything. Including the wrapper.
#100056
When happening upon this page, this troper was chewing on a chopstick.
#100057
This troper has a laptop. She chews on that little metal thing that keeps the screen shut. Also, when in thought, she
bites her thumb.
#100058
This troper chews on or eats pretty much everything. The most common thing is fingernails and the skin at the tips of the fingers, where there's no nerve endings. I'll chew that off and swallow it, it doesn't hurt at all. I'll also do this for toes. Plastic bottle caps and yogurt containers can't escape either - I'll chew on the bottle cap and bite pieces off (which usually causes bleeding) until there's only a small flat piece left, and all the chewed-up bits are laying at the bottom of the bottle. There's other things too - pretty much anything plastic or rubber is going to be eaten - but those are the main ones.
#100059
This troper is chewing on a straw as he types this. He also chews on pens. But what he's really obsessed with is Tic Tacs. He'll eat like 2 boxes a day unless he paces himself. If he runs out of Tic Tacs, he chews on the box.
#100060
This troper was a thumb-sucker as a kid. Since breaking that habit, she's become a compulsive chewer--gum and hard candy mainly, but she's also been known to chew pens, pen caps, headphone wires, telephone cords, ice, her shirt sleeves, and her hair (when it was long enough, at least).
#100061
Perhaps not as extreme as these other examples, but this troper must put everything small enough to fit in her hands, in her mouth. iPods, straws, water bottle tops- if it is either hard enough not to give or flexible enough to receive teeth marks, I'm there. I have to be, all the time. Apparently I channeled this into a character of mine with severe brain damage-- and Kluver-Bücy Syndrome, and puts not just the hand-sized things in his mouth all the time... IfYouKnowWhatIMean. But also, no, seriously.
#100062
This troper often doesn't even bother with pens and such, and just nibbles on his fingertips. This often results in a good collection of chew marks on his fingers.
#100063
This troper found that braces helped with getting rid of bad habits like chewing on writing utensils and fingernails...and now typically only chews on straws and similar things on the odd occasion. She does bite on her thumbnail on the odd occasion, and some objects do come close to her mouth and lips (such as the tip of her tablet pen or the end of her pencil). Whenever she has it, she'll treat Pocky like a piece of straw.
#100064
Halfway through reading this page, this troper realized she was chewing on a hairbrush. I wish I could say this was surprising.
#100065
This troper had a bad habit of chewing on board game pieces, specifically the deed cards in Monopoly. He'd deny it every time his older brother would call him out on it- even when the card was still in his mouth at the time.
#100066
This troper will chew on ''anything''. Bottle caps, pens, pencil, headphone wires, erasers, straws, her shirt collars, popsicle sticks, small pieces of paper, the ends of her glasses... Whatever she can get her hands on that won't kill her if she puts it in her mouth. It's definitely a problem.
#100067
This troper fit the description to a T about 6 months ago. Now I go farther: my pencils used to have obvious bite marks. Now, the eraser of a new pencil lasts for about 2 minutes before being eaten, and after that, I start in on the wood of the pencil, which actually goes down, and is far far cheaper than gum.
#100068
I chew EVERYTHING, but also have the habit of grabbing my best friend's arm and going NOMNOMNOM reallt loudly.
#100069
This troper is known to keep at least one toothpick in his mouth at a time (also known for hoarding toothpicks and mints from restaurants), and he tends to chew on non-edible stuff, including: A bus seat, a plastic lunch tray, pens, the wrong side of pens, pencils, fingernails, straws, floss, mints, candy, plastic wrappers, headset wires, his toothbrush, paper, his coat, etc, etc.
#100070
This tropers sometimes does it with pens; when she has a drink with a straw, she keeps it until she gets bored; when her nails start to break, she finishes the job and chews them (considering that most of the time are let to grow free they tend to be at least one centimeter) Funny enough she doesn't have the habit to bite off the nails that aren't broken.
#100071
This troper was chewing on a plastic spoon when he came here.
#100072
Chewing on Eclipse mints and pen lids got this troper through his honours year
#100073
This troper often feels it necessary to chew something but has a distaste for putting inedible items in his mouth. Thus, when food is unavailable, chewing motions often continue automatically... until the lip gets caught in it and skin starts coming off.
#100074
Most of this troper's pens, pencils, highlighters and yes, even the ruler, have evidence of mastication. If I'm wearing a necklace either the pendant or the chain itself will spend half the time in my mouth and if all else fails, biting my own knuckles will suffice.
#100075
This troper goes for writing utensils, and if she is sitting in the bathroom for long, she'll chew on toilet paper. When she has a SO, she'll be licking and sucking on parts of them (yes, including that, but not in public), or just sit with their arm gently in her teeth while she is sitting with them.
#100076
This troper regularly chews on straws, pens, the sleeves of her jackets, toothpicks, hair clips, her thumb, paper clips, ice, forks... hell, it'd be quicker to list the things she ''doesn't'' chew. She once started biting a ''candle'' (unlit, thankfully), before realizing what she was doing.
#100077
This is the reason why
this troper doesn't buy chewing gum that often. She'll chain chew the pack of gum; then if she doesn't have any afterwards, she ''will'' suffer from
withdrawal symptoms - chewing on pens, plastic bottles her bottom lip, her thumbnail à la L - pretty much anything she can get her teeth on. No, she's not a smoker, but she did have braces for quite a while and still wears a retainer, so she's used to
having things inside her mouth.
#100078
This troper has at one time or another used pencils, pretzel sticks, and those little stirring things they give out at coffee places for this. He tends to hold the pretzel sticks like cigarettes for some reason.
#100079
This troper, at one point, had callouses on the pads of all ten fingers from chewing on them. She also has about four t-shirts where the collar is frayed beyond repair from chewing. She's mostly stopped now, though. ...Except for biting her nails.
#100080
This troper will chew on just about anything that goes in his mouth. Writing utensils, paper, nails, fingers, those cords that are on sweatshirts, and most commonly his thumb, Ã la L (it does help with thinking). However, ever since getting braces, on or off, he can't stand gum.
#100081
This troper will chew on anything made of plastic, and also pencils. If it tastes bad enough though, it gets left alone. She also still sucks her thumb, despite being 16 years old (to her great shame).
#100082
This troper chewed on paper clips for the longest time, although he seems to have finally kicked the habit.
#100083
This troper's GRANDPA has kept a toothpick in his mouth for as long as she can remember.
#100084
This troper chews on straws and pieces of plastic and whatnot. She also can't grow her nails very long because when she doesn't have anything else to chew on, she bites them. Sadly, the one time she did manage to grow out her nails, she caught them on something and it gave her a nasty bruise under her nail.
#100085
This troper chews on plastic spoons (the thin end, not the spoon part).
#100086
Tropers/{{Raekuul}} chews '''''everything''''' he can get his hands on. So far, this has included pens, pencils, earphone cord, the cleaning rod to his flute, ice, broken pen caps, a seat belt, and once even a sock. I also have no memory of writing this entry.
#100087
This troper has a strange addiction to chewing on her right hand. Not left hand, nope; just right hand. (Never in public, of course...)
#100088
This troper has a tendency to always chew on something. Mechanical pens will have that little plastic piece gnawed on until it breaks off, then the stub is attacked. Ice, bottle tops, cups. In fact, while reading this article, this troper caught himself chewing on his thumbnail.
#100089
This troper has an oral fixation. She chews loads of gum, even during school when it isn't allowed, gnaws on the wires of her headphones, and bites her nails and, occasionally, her fingers or lip.
#100090
This troper likes to chew on rubbery or plastic things. After he got a new rubber chew toy for his dog, he decided to test it out for himself first.
#100091
This troper, like many others on this page, chain-chews gum whenever she gets the chance. When that's not available, she resorts to pencils, pens, bottles, straws, marbles, pop-can tabs, the edges of cups, and especially her fingers and fingernails. By fingers, I mean the cuticles and the edges on the sides of my fingernails. This makes them ragged, which makes them easier to chew. I also have the worrying and masochistic habit of picking my teeth until my guns bleed, particularly when I'm doing needlepoint and stick the (blunt) metal needle in my mouth. It's probably a bad sign that I kind of like the taste of my own blood.
#100092
The clip parts on
this troper's pens and pencils never last long, thanks to her obsessive chewing habit, and she absolutely mutilates straws. She also likes headphones, USB cords, hoodie cords, ribbons on shirts, the inside of her cheeks, thread (for sewing or just loose on her clothes), cups, keys, rings from soda bottles, bottle caps, and more dangerous things like sewing needles, safety pins, and knives.
Oooh, the bigger the better with knives. Ironically, she hates gum.
#100093
Pens, a specific lego wheel (Nothing else would do) and especially a sweater or two I had that just felt so good between my teeth...
#100094
This troper had a bad habit of chewing on the ends of pens. She would walk around with a pen in her mouth like it was a constant toothpick or cigarette, speak around it, and only remove it to eat.She could tell which was hers by the teethmarks.her father told her she was going to get ink poisoning. How?It was the cap! She finally stopped after glomping a friend and forgetting a pen was in her mouth and narrowly missed poking out said friends EYE.
#100095
Bottle caps are great to chew on. Aluminum cans are good too, but you've gotta be careful to not cut your mouth up too much. In fact, any kind of soft metal would be my chewing object of choice, though certain plastics are fine as well.
#100096
This troper hates the stubble in the corners of his mouth that he misses whilst shaving, and often yanks the hairs out with his teeth. Same with hair between the second and third knuckles on his hands.
#100097
This Troper frequently chews on various things, either to help him concentrate or just because. The most chewed things include pens, pencils, T-shirt collars (causing most of This Troper's shirts to have holes in them), sweet sweet Pocky and glasses.
#100098
This troper plays with the following objects between his teeth and lips: Fingernails (and detached fingernail tips) finger segments (mostly if not always right hand), DSLite stylus (the original, he is obsessed about not losing it even though he has one black replacement that came with it and four multipack replacements of different colours), pens, bottlecaps (plastic and metal), bottles, knives, remote controls, unplugged cords, buttons and rivets, pins, candy cigarettes (pressed sugar sticks), marbles, toy cars, LEGO minifigs, jewelry (including the metal and glass parts of his watches), pencils, mechanical pencil graphite sticks, straws... So much stuff he's forgetting. He chews apart: Fingernails (and detached fingernail tips), knuckles (mostly right hand), pen caps, pliant bottlecaps, plastic bottles, bottlecap rings, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, chewing gum, beeswax, candy cigarettes, Slim Jim-style jerky sticks, dog rawhide strips and even a rawhide bone when he was trying to stop destroying the skin of his knuckles (made for dogs, not of), straws... He's a bit of a sense freak (aside from too many noises, certain loud tones, or strong/irregular lights), has Aspergers, and may be OCD, and has tried to find a specific habit that will help keep him from smoking (which he doesn't) and stop chewing his knuckles, without getting a bag pocket full of spittle. Annoyingly, many chewing gums dissolve or refuse to coalesce in the first place thanks to something in his saliva.
#100099
This troper finally realized how unsanitary it was to chew on everything in sight, and has managed to convert to chomping on small pieces of toilet paper, then discarding them. Gum just doesn't have enough resistance, dagnabbit.
#100100
This troper can't believe Dum-Dum brand suckers haven't been mentioned on this wiki at all. I've liked them for nostalgic reasons: back when I was a kid, the pharmacist would always hand out dum-dums to me and my siblings every time we picked up prescriptions...sigh...
#100101
This troper started chewing on her headphone cord almost as soon as she got to this page.. she also chews on her lips (until they bleed, if she's bored), Styrofoam cups, straws, sucker sticks, Ring Pop bases, any necklaces that are long enough to get into her mouth, and when she was little she used to chew on her sleeves until they frayed.
#100102
This troper had a tendency to do this, or just do weird things with his jaw when he did have anything to chew on. Eventually he gave in and bought one of those 'safe for long term wear' gags just to keep from damaging himself.
#100103
this troper is almost always chewing spearmint gum. mmm
#100104
As a child, ThisTroper chewed on toys small enough to fit in her mouth, but large enough to not be swallowed accidentally. Nowadays, she continues to chew on straws, and the occasional pen.
#100105
You will never catch this troper without a lollipop in his mouth. EVER, except while sleeping. Maybe. This has been a fixated habit ever since I was in kindergarten. This actually led to a brief period of me being called "
Sanji" when I was in first grade. Seriously, I carry like 20 of them in my backpack over the school day, and I even convinced one of my teachers to make an exception to her "no eating" rule in her classroom for me. Somehow, my teeth haven't been affected by this. My girlfriend also likes to try and guess what flavor I've been chewing on, IfYouKnowWhatIMean. (
She kisses me.)
#100106
This troper favours the little stirring things found in coffee shops, both the straw-types and the little bits of wood. Once he gets a cup of coffee or tea, he'll just gnaw on the thing for an hour or two.
#100107
This Troper is currently drinking a sunkist, and when not at school always has something to drink. While at School he can be seen chewing on pens and other such things. He has been known to chew on Bottle Caps when other things are not available. Maybe there's a reason he loves the Most Comman Superpower?
#100108
This troper did not realize it until reading this page, but....she chews things a lot. If she encounters a straw, it will be gnawed down to a crumpled stump. She also chews her sleeves and, unfortunately, her nails. As for the non-chewing front, she constantly plays with her lips and sometimes puts her shirt collar in her mouth. She used to have a peppermint constantly in her mouth, but she wants to take up candy cigarettes instead, if she can find some sugar-free ones- they taste as nice as peppermints, and they
look a little cooler.
#100109
This troper will vacantly chew on bottlecaps from empty water bottles, on the sunglasses he never wears, and his hair-comb.
#100110
This troper's two friends, both smokers, now realize in retrospect that they simply need to have something constantly in their mouths--when they're not eating, drinking, or smoking, they tend to be chewing on pencils, wires, paper clips, Q-tips, bits of paper, the ends of their glasses...virtually everything. They've been doing this for as long as they can remember, so remember kids: If you like chewing on things that you really shouldn't, stay well away from your first cigarette. The nicotine won't get you, but the oral fixation will.
#100111
This troper puts everything to her lips, but never in her mouth. Glasses, pens, coins, jewelry, basically anything she can get her hands on. If there's nothing, she runs her fingers over her lips.
#100112
ThisTroper has tow variants on this - one where he constantly chews on clothing, especially jumpers and shirt collars, to the point that they're wrecked and need to be thrown out; and he also likes to nibble on his Nintendo DS stylus when he's playing a game tokeep it handy. I personally think it looks badass hanging out of my mouth. >_>
#100113
While not badass, I think it sounds rather... {{adorkable}}.
#100114
This troper has an awful nail-biting habit, which usually kicks in
when she doesn't get her coffee. She'll also chew on writing implements, jewellery, iPod headphone cords, watch straps, shirt collars/cuffs, her hair, and her own tongue. She goes through a hell of a lot of lollipops, too.
#100115
This Troper is the poster child for this trope. Besides nail-biting, she has a nasty habit of chewing on her hangnails until they bleed. She does this constantly, never giving them a chance to heal. She has also been known to chew on her hair, her bottom lip, the inside corners of her lips, the sides of her tongue, sunflower seed husks, apple cores, popcorn kernels, bottlecap rings, pen caps, tea sachets, bobby pins, cinnamon imperials, necklaces, the straps on Wii remotes, iPod headphone cords, straws, and pencils. And she sucked her thumb until she was ten years old.
#100116
If anything small and thin is left in my possession long enough, it will end up in my mouth.
#100117
On another note, I kinda have a sort of thing for...well, things involving the mouth. Objects in the mouth, actions with the mouth...ahem, but the point i'm trying to make is this: do I have an "OralFixationFixation Fixation"?
#100118
When worried, thinking, bored or distracted (among many other moods), I tend to chew on pens, popsicle sticks, my long fingernails, toothpicks, straws and pretty much anything else I can get my hands on. I've gotten a lot of crap from friends for absently sticking just about any random object in my mouth.
#100119
This troper chews gum a lot primarily to try and stop himself from chewing on everything else. It mostly works but he still finds it a good idea to avoid having anything small and chewable (such as pens and watches) within easy reach.
#100120
this troper chews on straws due to his minor OCD. He also likes plastic rings of soda bottles, ripping the spikes off. I used to pick string off the hymes oft pants, but i replaced that with less destructive straws.
#100121
This troper chews everything. It's one of the only reasons she likes eating (aside from the fact that she'll die if she doesn't, of course). Oddly enough, though, she hates gum.
#100122
This troper is currently chewing on a teether made for toddlers, because they're made to be chewed on and last longer than shirts do.
#100124
This troper loves himself some gum, but does have a habit of biting things to hold them when he needs both hands, which include everything from pens, to cups, to Sonic Screwdrivers.
#100125
Not Sonic Screwdrivers!
#100126
This troper will chew on anything plasticy or rubbery, from your normal pens and erasers, to rubber stretchy sticky hands and that dangly window cord thing that pulls the blinds up and down. And right now she has the head of her toy wooden snake in her mouth, because she doesn't have a pen or anything hand... Oh, and she constantly mouths her fingernails. She used to suck her thumb until she was seven and can't chew gum (Dental crowns, they might get pulled out), so her oral fixation got suppressed onto everything else.
#100127
This troper chews on his stylus while playing Nintendo DS.
#100128
This troper chews on gum constantly, and when that's unavailable then it's wrappers, straws, the sides of his mouth, candy, and/or paper. He sucks on the sticks of lollipops, chopsticks, and his wrist. He also frequently puts things (anything) on his lips. He also has been known to bite his friends.
#100129
This troper has been caught with various things in his mouth, including ''his own fingers'' in a very feminine position.
#100130
This troper used to chew the ends of pencils when she was in elementary school. (Switching to first person now) My mother told me not to... so I started biting my nails instead. I only managed to kick the habit last year (I'm 16 now). I've also sucked my thumb since I was a baby, I ruined my first pair of glasses by chewing on them, and I like to gnaw on my necklaces.
#100131
This she-Troper had a penchant for nibbling on plastic forks, necklaces, unfolded metal paper clips that touch a metal filling in her mouth, her pinky fingertips, the edges torn off of candy wrappers after eating the candy. Once or twice she has chomped gently on a loved one's forearm when cuddling.
#100132
I have a bad habit with plastic bottle caps.
#100133
This Troper will chew on any pen he has without realising it. And fingernails. And headphone cables.
And strands of his WildHair.
#100134
This Troper seems to have full blown pica. any bit of plastic I can pick a bite sized piece off will be chewed on (not a single pen cap in the house) any loose thread will be plucked and chewed, any loose piece of paper or cardboard will be chewed and consumed, and generally anything malleable and flavorless will be chewed.
#100136
This Troper chain chews gum. I've stopped doing that since my supply ran out(i.e. I got banned and I am broke)Not to mention candy and chewing on my thumb occasionally
#100137
I am actually an example of the sucking side of this trope {including at this exact second my glasses} and I have a weird tendency of falling for guys that I've noticed do this from time to time. Which got really interesting in one of my classes where me and the guy I liked would be sitting next to each other and I'd have a colored pencil in my mouth and he would have a sharpie. I was far more frequent than him though.
#100138
kicking_k
I used to suck my fingers obsessively until I was nine, when I had to stop because I was getting braces on my teeth (possibly because the finger-sucking had caused my front teeth to shift...) I then shifted to playing with the braces (and their rubber bands) using my tongue, and also gained some weight which at the time I thought was down to eating more for this reason. I also used to rip pieces off the corners of pages and chew them. Strangely, all these habits have dissipated with th e years.
