JustOneMoreLevel
#74250
This Troper has played Neopets, Facebook, Dragonfable (and its three other games) that ate her free time and her soul, sob sob... ALONG with Tvtopes itself *glare*
#74251
This Troper has done this with quite a few games, including:
#74252
The original Tetris. I played for 2 or 3 days, but thankfully was good enough about it to leave the game paused for the night and get back to playing the next morning.
#74253
Pokemon Fire Red. Just... Pokemon Fire Red.
#74254
Rampage. Yes, Rampage. I was trying to figure out if it would eventually end if I played long enough.
#74255
Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I had to use Game Genie codes, but I won... 4 times.
#74256
Final Fantasy 1. The damn battle music kept getting stuck in my head. And some nights, as I was just going to head for bed at whatever-it-was AM, I would listen closely only to find that I had left the game running in some emulator, and it was still playing music.
#74257
Not as bad an example - Sonic Advance. I would play on Time Attack until my fingers started to really hurt.
#74258
...And one of the few reasons that I haven't done this with Sonic Adventure DX is that for some reason, the music that plays in the Mystic Ruins makes me hungry.
#74259
Games that ate my soul:
#74261
MapleStory, before the LevelGrinding got to me. Then I discovered custom servers that give 25x experience, and offer a "Rebirth" feature where you can start over at level 1 with the stats and abilities you accumulated...it still took forever to to get past that first 200 levels worth of experience, so I gave up.
#74262
NipponIchi games. I've logged over 100 hours EACH in {{Disgaea}}, Disgaea2, MakaiKingdom (TWICE, because I wasn't happy with how I built my team the first time and started over on a new save), and PhantomBrave (ditto). The only thing that stopped me from doing so in LaPucelle was the lack of NewGamePlus.
#74263
TeamFortress2, especially Payload. I can spend hours playing the same map over and over again without getting bored. Paradoxically, I find it much more fun and challenging when the two teams are evenly matched and play down to the wire rather than when my team is
rolling over the other.
#74264
I wonder who else had trouble when it comes to not playing ''{{Spelunky}}''?
#74265
I beat Pokemon [=HeartGold=] in one day. All sixteen gyms, and the Elite Four, and Silver. This was after I had logged over 300 hours in my copy of Diamond. And I'm not even going to get started on my {{Yu-Gi-Oh}} game addiction.
#74267
This troper can top that. Nearly 514 hours on Pokémon Diamond ''alone''.
#74268
Ha. I have over 650 hours logged on Diamond, completed the national dex within six months of getting the game, and have apparently made over 1000 trades on the GTS.
#74269
This Troper has spent 650+ hours alone on Pokemon Emerald's game, including the Battle Frontier! Longest game ever, which took over 3 years... Then the save-file of the game
broke down...
#74270
How about playing over 15 hours of Diamond in three days ''after'' logging in nearly 500 hours and ''two and a half years'' after it got released?
#74271
200+ on Diamond, 100+ on Platinum, and ''999:59'' on Sapphire. Eat it.
#74272
Back around Christmas of '97, when this troper was hypnotized by FinalFantasyVII, he got to the point where he said to himself, "If I get to sleep ''immediately'', then start the game up the INSTANT I wake up, it'll be like I never turned it off! Score!"
#74273
This troper remembers one night in which he pulled an all nighter completely by accident after playing The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of seasons for too long.
#74274
This troper loves it when it happens:
#74275
First time, I was 16, I stayed up all night on a SCHOOL DAY playing nothing but {{Super Smash Bros. Brawl}}'s story mode
#74276
Years later(18) I did this when I played {{Metal Gear Solid 2}}, I {{RageQuit}} after I couldn't beat the
One Boss}} Metal Gear Rays
#74278
Played through {{Fallout}} in one night and only noticed when he saw the sun was up after killing the Master and he'd started after dinner. Admittedly, not a first run.
#74279
Logged 100+ hours on LaPucelle, MakaiKingdom, PhantomBrave, and
Warship Gunner 2.
#74280
Played {{Lunar}}: Silver Star Story Complete overnight, and maybe Eternal Blue Complete once, too. Memory's a bit fuzzy.
#74281
Caesar III and {{X-COM}} have also eaten significant chunks of entire days/nights.
#74283
After a few days of ''SystemShock 2'', I went all the way and spent the entire evening, up to midnight, to finish the game. School tomorrow? Who cares - thankfully it's the end of year and nothing is really being taught anymore.
#74284
This Troper would like to state that ''DwarfFortress'' nearly caused him to be late to a midterm. Fortunately he had studied before learning of that free time waster's existence, so his grade was a B.
#74285
Get yourself a copy of ''GeometryWars'', or download and install ''GridWars'' on your computer, and see how ''all'' your time is drained by that simple little game.
#74286
This troper was working on a multi-threaded program for a computer science class and just finished the debugging at midnight. He went to bed and spent the next six hours dreaming about sitting at the computer and coding, and woke up like he never slept to begin with. He was
pretty irritable the following day. The assignment
passed by his partner's standards and made up for the pain. This actually seems to be quite common for programmers, although it only happens to this troper if he's stressed about the assignment.
#74287
I have a rule in place for just this situation: If I have to be ANYWHERE that day I won't play any game with an engaging story.
#74288
For
This Troper, it's PuyoPuyo. Trying to find the best way to make chains... figuring how to make an all clear of that fever puzzle... finishing every single story.... wait, it's 1:00 am already!? Last time I checked, it was 10:30 am!
#74290
This troper was a member of a forum dedicated to the ''{{Civilization}}'' series of games where not only was this effect commonly acknowledged, it was even given its own name--JOMT ('''J'''ust '''O'''ne '''M'''ore '''T'''urn) Syndrome.
#74291
''Civilization 4'' even features a clock in the user interface so you can measure your gameplay time!
#74292
LampshadeHanging in GalacticCivilizations: the quit dialog asks, "surely a few more turns wouldn't hurt?
#74293
Similarly, ''Civ II'''s RecycledInSpace sequel SidMeiersAlphaCentauri had an option like that ''after you've won the game'': you receive a victory message, and the options "Good! I'm done! Now go away!" and "Wait, lemme play just a couple more turns..." While we're on the topic, it is one of only five games this troper has played from noon to midnight, and the only one he's played all night long.
#74294
This troper always considered ''Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri'' as the worst offender in this category. Not only was it a very good Civ iteration, but when you tried to exit the game, on top of the usual ''Are you sure ? yes/no'' window the game advisor's voice would say "Please don't go ! The drones need you, they ''look up'' to you..." in a disturbingly desperate tone which made it quite hard to quit without feeling bad about it.
#74295
Oh god. The drones...
#74296
This troper never had an issue with that dialogue screen and thought it was amusing. Quite frankly, out of all the Civ games, this troper would like to note that one is most prone to the Tetris effect in Alpha Centauri, since it's essentially the best Civ game ever.
#74297
This troper bought Alpha Centauri after spending eight hours non-stop on the ''demo''...
#74298
Lampshade Hanging abounds in Civ4, where, at "the end of history", you have the option of proceeding to the Hall of Fame, or "Just...one...more...turn!"
#74300
Yup. This Troper got ''Civilization Revolutions'' for the 360. Each victory type gives you a new trophy in your Hall of Glory. Gandhi conquers the world! Caesar colonizes Alpha Centauri! Bismarck builds the United Nations! Montezuma builds the World Bank! Must... Get... All... The... Trophies...
#74301
The first time Da_Nuke pulled a gaming all-nighter was precisely with ''Civilization III''. When he started playing Alpha Centauri, he went as far as placing in the same priority as ''the final projects.'' He had to force himself to quit when the projects were starting to get dicey.
#74302
This toper remembers playing MarioAndLuigi 'till midnight.
#74303
This troper's BoyScout troop took this trope UpToEleven with an annual "lock-in". Basically, we play video games, complete with Halo3 LAN parties and SuperSmashBros, Eat pizza and keeping ourselves awake with caffeinated sodas, all in the space of 12 hours, from evening to tomorrow morning. Holy shit.
#74304
Civilization is the ONLY series that does this to me. @_@ Must take Beijing and make Isabella the Queen of the World...
#74305
In a certain age group in 1999, ''{{Pokemon}}''. GottaCatchEmAll...
#74306
Heck, the newer ''Pokémon'' games can be just as addictive as the old ones.
#74307
This troper has over 300 Pokemon now. He's not obsessed! He swears! (eye twitches)
#74308
Nearly 400, and I've only had it since January.
#74309
I caught them all. You get a f*** ing certificate. But still I am obssesed with the breeding, and metagaming that comes with the pokemon franchise.
#74310
483 hours on Diamond (as of February 2010). I actually spend hours on training my Pokémon. (I'm not a
Stop Having Fun Guy by the way. My Pokémon will most likely never reach metagamers' standards) And I am still missing 12 Pokémon. I've probably spent over 1,000 hours on all my Pokémon games combined. And yes, I do dream about Pokémon.
#74311
Forget just catching them all. The newer games include all sorts of distractions, like Contests (talent competitions as opposed to battles) and the Battle Tower (endurance challenges), in addition to the classic SelfImposedChallenge of raising a pokemon to Level 100. If you really want to drive yourself nuts, try to get a pokemon with maximum stats and moves - it involves training in specific areas of the map, use of certain stat-boosting items, and large amounts of HotSkittyOnWailordAction to breed one with the best potential in the first place.
#74312
Just beating the game became a near obsession when Diamond and Pearl came out last year. Every waking hour was spent on that game, and some sleep was lost. Every once in a while I'd look up and remember I was a 20-something PLAYING POKEMONS.
#74313
No, no, if you're going to mispronounce it, it should properly be "Poke''man''".
#74314
The new ''Voltorb Flip.'' I played it for hours. And hours. and days. and ohgodsomeonestopme!
#74315
This troper HATED The Sims.. and yet found himself playing for about nine hours straight. Must be the
GODLIKE POWAH! *evil laugh*
#74316
''{{Disgaea}}''. Just Disgaea. Must. Get. To.
Level. 9999.
#74317
''Europa Universalis'' and ''Hearts of Iron''. Paradox know how to make their games addictive.
#74318
''Crusader Kings'', ''Victoria'' and ''Rome'', their other games from the ''Europa Universalis'' family, also belong here.
#74319
''Zoo Keeper''. The fact that it is so addictive and yet so insubstantial at the same time is summed up neatly in
this review.
#74320
''NeverwinterNights'' and ''StarWars: KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'' both do this in spades, and for the same reason: Play the game. Beat the game. Do it again with a different class/alignment/sex/race for your character. Do it again with another combination. And again.
#74321
This troper has done the same thing with ''JadeEmpire''. TVTropesWillRuinYourLife...and so will anything made by Bioware.
#74322
This troper, generally quite a casual gamer who'll play for an hour or two at a time, once played ''KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'' for ''12 hours straight''.
#74323
And then, once you think you're finally done with ''Neverwinter Nights'' you discover the community mods. Some of which are more intricate than the main campaigns. And you start the whole process over again. I've put more hours into ''Neverwinter Nights'' and its expansions than I have into all other games combined.
#74325
''SuperSmashBrosMelee''. "Alright, this'll be my last match for tonight...OK, one more...Dammit, it's 3 AM."
#74326
''MassEffect'': I have to save the galaxy! But first, I have to: read every Codex entry, find every mineral, find every Prothean data disc, find every Asari writing, kill some cultists and drive around in the Mako. And maybe kill some space-monkeys.
#74327
Same with this troper, but with Mass Effect 2. I have played through the game at least 5 times.
#74328
Pick ''any'' version of ''GeometryWars''. ''Grid Wars'', for example, is currently the official game of the telecommunications major at the ITESO, with ''everyone'' capable of reaching scores well over the 600,000!
#74329
Once I got SuperMarioGalaxy2, I played the game for nearly nine hours STRAIGHT only taking a break to eat lunch.
#74330
The day this troper got ''KingdomHearts 2'' she started playing late at night and made it through the prologue in one sitting, no harm done. She learned much later that said prologue was ''five hours long''.
#74331
This troper rented it once and managed to play it for just less than 24 hours... in about 3 days... playing it until ''4:30 AM''.
#74332
This troper was at a sleepover at a friend's house and got her hand on this game. At 12am. And played through the entire prologue before charging into the room where everyone else was sleeping in the very early morning to demand an answer to the question of WHERE THE HELL DID ROXAS GOOOOOO-
#74333
Started playing this game the day before, and got through the prologue no problem. The next day, I started playing at about 8 in the morning, and by 1am I was looking around asking, "Where did the sun go?" To make matters worse, I didn't even get that far into the game after all that time.
#74334
This troper is constantly affected by this, but seems to remember a certain issue of Nintendo Power actually addressing this, where a subscriber mailed in saying that their own TEACHER was actually late to class because he was playing VideoGame/PaperMario. It consumes us all, folks...
#74335
This trope can also be applied to games not based in the video realm. See, BoardGames never get boring.
#74336
This troper had beat ''The Witcher'' in less than one week, sleeping about 16 hours total during those six days and sacrificing all kinds of other activities.
#74337
This troper did the same thing with FinalFantasyX-2, getting 100% completion, including Bevelle, in less than a week, only to turn around and ''start a new game'' so she could get all of the garment grids and have all three girls master all the blue magic spells. ...I don't do that stuff anymore, ''really''.
#74338
{{Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game}}s like WorldofWarcraft and Everquest (or Evercrack) are especially prone to this. It's so bad, that there have been cases of people literally ''playing themselves to to death''.
#74339
If
Match Three Games are a drug, ''PuzzleQuestChallengeOfTheWarlords'' is the Black Tar Heroin of the bunch.
#74340
This troper thinks of it more like Nytol. When she has unbreakable insomnia, she gets her husband to play the game. Invariably, she's asleep within twenty minutes.
#74341
This troper believes we've all forgotten a very important culprit... THE INTERNET! This troper's been on TV Tropes since about 11:00PM, right as he gave up on MapleStory after about 5 hours. It is now 2:52 AM, and he has to go to work tomorrow morning... Or rather, later this morning.
#74342
You speak the truth.
#74343
This troper had this mildly star in grade 9, effected his marks in grade 10 (but I managed to slip by), but my first semester grade 11 marks are currently in trouble, while he wants to go to medical university. :-(
#74344
I know what you mean, I've been doing the same thing tonight. I promised myself I'd be in bed at half 12 at the latest. It's now quarter to 2, and I'm still reading...
#74345
Wiki. Frikkin'. Pedia. Sure, it has its problems, but when you're as utterly obsessed with trivia as this troper is, you can start a psych essay at 5:00 PM, click on the wrong link and next thing you know you can name every Mayan god and you've been declared legally dead by your family.
#74346
This troper is actually rarely that susceptible to this problem... but had it bad with ''TheLongestJourney'' once she finally picked it up. She played for days on end without quitting, staying up as long as she could manage every night, and skipping school and appointments for it. The only reason she ever stopped playing at all was encountering a save-game bug that caused the pictures and information for her save-games to update, without actually creating saves to go with them, causing her to lose days of progress. She's been afraid to ever play it again since then.
#74347
This troper has sometimes thought to himself, "I'll get a couple of days done in ''Persona 3'' before bed" only to still be awake six hours later. This was even worse when he was playing ''Dynasty Tactics 2'' - he'd get through one overmap scenario, to discover six hours had passed while he was agonizing over every little motion of his units.
#74348
This troper has discovered a little game called "Desktop Tower Defender" which has earned the dubious distinction of being more addictive than TVTropes.org. His fiancee has had to all but physically turn off the computer to get him to stop playing.
#74349
Ever since Spore came out, this troper can barely pull herself away from it. Just one more part...just one more...
#74350
''{{Freelancer}}''. Can't stop... one more mission. Hey, I can get this load of boron to Leeds no problem...
#74351
''{{N}}''. The original. 100 episodes. 500 levels. How many have I completed? I think.... 60 episodes? More? I've been playing for how long? Years, on and off?
#74352
"Excrable fanfic"? Anyway, this troper's JustOneMoreLevel is RaidouKuzunohaVsTheSoullessArmy. Except when I get tired, I get TIRED. So no staying up til morning for me. I find myself thinking, "just one more battle, then you can go save", or "hey, I wonder what [insert name of NPC] will say after I do this?" And I just play until I get tired. Which is kind of strange, because the game doesn't have a lot of distraction factor, it's fairly-linear. Mainly the reason I stop is to write my fanfic, or when at work/school, brainstorm on said fanfic unless I REALLY need to focus on something else. My brother is sick of hearing about it. (And yes, if anyone's noticed there have been a few additions of examples from RaidouKuzunohaVsTheSoullessArmy, it was probably this troper. Must create contributor page...)
#74353
This Troper has played so much Blitzball she kinda forgot it was part of ''FinalFantasyX''.
#74354
How has ''Football Manager'' not been mentioned yet? This troper has been known to play it solidly for weeks at a time, breaking only to eat, sleep and go to work.
#74356
''What'', '''nine thousand?!'''
#74357
No!...'''OverNineThousand!'''
#74358
There's ''no way'' that can be right!
#74360
Why... why did you have to post that link?! *sobs* I always get caught up in it... ''always''...
#74361
Also, when taking French in school, I found playing the French level was also fairly beneficial.
#74362
This troper has classmates who've found the wonders of online Tetris. It is ridiculous, and I'm one of the few who've managed not to succumb. Then again, I end up hanging out on here and some forums.
#74363
This troper got AnimalCrossing for Wii. She put it on, started playing, looked up...oh my lord it's midnight thirty and I've done nothing of merit!
#74364
Wii? Try the DS! Or the Gamecube! I've been doing Wild World for several months after getting my own copy and a DS to with it (I know how that sounds). I'm almost at the final expansion on the house and have given up HOURS of study time I could have been using to learn chemistry to pay off my f-ing mortgage. After that, I shall plant enough flowers to damn the pacific ocean so I can get the perfect rating on my town... A geez, I've been planning out where to grow trees again...
#74365
Oh, wow. This Troper... among other things, he spent ''years'' in a perpetual mental spelling bee, some of it congruent with a first-person novel; he finds himself comparing nearly everything to its closest {{Runescape}} equivalent; and, perhaps most egregiously, over three days ago he opened three TVTropes tabs; that session of Firefox is still open, now reduced to only 28 tabs. (He's not sure how many he had, for instance, yesterday afternoon, but it may have challenged his previous record of 84 simultaneous tabs stemming from
TheOtherWiki's {{Bionicle}} page.
#74367
Buying ''Jewel Quest'' for her cell phone was one of the biggest mistakes this troper made......she's been spending all her free time playing it lately, and she was playing it while waiting for class earlier today, but as soon as class started and she had to turn off her phone, she went through some pretty bad withdrawal...in fact, she can barely type now because she has to keep playing...
#74368
Advance Wars Dual Strike. That is all.
#74369
The Tales games have this effect on me. When I first got ''TalesOfSymphonia'', I literally did ''nothing'' for the two weeks afterward except play the game, only getting up to eat and sleep. It was summer, I was allowed, but jeez my father was pissed that I was gaming on his TV from 8 AM to 10 PM every day for two weeks. Several years later, I picked up ''TalesOfTheAbyss'', after letting it hang for about six months, finally started to get into it again when my friends told me it gets better - wait a minute, it's November 15? Wasn't it October 20-ish yesterday? I was a ''little'' more self-aware when I played ''TalesOfVesperia'', and even let the game drop after I beat the final boss, but then the new semester started and I began my second playthrough...It's now about six weeks into the semester and I have literally played ''no other game'', I've been trying to do all the sidequests and
missable things there is to do,
of which there's a ton.
#74370
This troper is a Facebook frequenter. Facebook + Hanjie Puzzle (a Picross application) = hey guys where'd the time go.
#74371
This Troper is addicted to Final Fantasy, Disgaea and Pokemon. They are just SO much fun.
#74372
Lemme put it this way, it doesn't feel like I've spent 17 Hours playing Persona4.
#74373
{{@/Teg}} realizes that ''TalesOfSymphonia'' is not a difficult game, but nonetheless she had a rough time of it in certain parts her first playthrough. This is likely attributable to said parts coming near the end of an individual playing session. ...Her sessions lasted about thirty consecutive hours. Yeeeeah.
#74374
For the sake of nostalgia, this troper decided to boot up ''
Docking Station'' and fool around with it due to boredom. This was at 6 in the evening. Next thing she knew: "Good LORD, is it really almost midnight?" Not only had she been playing for ages, but she'd also gone to the Creatures wikia and downloaded seventy-gajillion {{Game Mod}}s for the silly thing... On the plus side, she discovered in her pool of "fun and interesting mutants" a seemingly immortal creature, one who could only walk backwards up hills, one extremely aggressive one who hit everything and ''oh god it's happening even now. Must stop.''
#74375
Hey, that song sounds cool...I wonder if I can play it on guita-WHERE DID MY WEEKEND GO?!
#74376
It was nine o'clock. Pm. I was behind on my English essay as I spent the last five hours reading a single persons {{Everything2}} write-ups. It's now 2 o'clock. Am. I am officially grounding myself from the interwebs.
#74377
This troper played ''FinalFantasyVIII'' a few years ago and doesn't remember getting especially hooked, so was perhaps a bit too complacent when it came to replaying it. It has now taken over his life.
#74378
If you discover several time consuming ways that allow you to make godly characters at the beginning, it is definitely addicting. Especially when it comes to cards (just one more Elnoyle...). Anyways, that explains why you won't see it coming even after playing through a first time.
#74379
There was one occasion for me when playing Advance Wars DS: "Alright, got to kill about 10 minutes. How about I play through this War Room map? *PWNS everything with Grit* Well, that was fun! How long hav.......1 AND A HALF HOURS!?!? WHAT THE HELL MAN?!
#74380
There was a time when my roommate entered the living room after a marathon session of Starcraft. He found me playing Disgaea in complete darkness. We both sort of stared at each other for a second and gave a sort of "You too, huh?" response. When we looked at the clock, it was FIVE in the morning.
#74381
Columns. That old puzzle game for the Sega Genesis? This troper still plays that for hours on end, with a six hour marathon session holding the record so far. We're not even gonna get into his SMAC sessions...
#74382
I'm surprised there's not a single mention of
Akinator yet on this page... let alone ''this very wiki''.
#74383
This troper was surprised to discover that the database for that site has characters from ''PopNMusic''.
#74384
{{Akinator}}. There you are, a page.
#74385
NipponIchi games. I've racked at least 100~200 hours ''each'' in {{Disgaea}}, Disgaea 2, PhantomBrave, and MakaiKingdom. (Thank God La Pucelle didn't have a NewGamePlus option and it's trivial to level up your generics in Soul Nomad.)
#74386
This Troper was able to play a full plot run of {{Okami}} in 5 days... and then another... it single-handedly displaced my sleeping hours by 4 hours.
#74387
This troper has played a good ''400'' hours of {{Pokemon}} Diamond, and she's not even a hardcore player. Similarly, I also play a lot of HarvestMoon, and AnimalCrossing.
#74388
This Troper was once playing ''Warcraft 3'' around 9:00 P.M. After what felt like a couple games later, I noticed it was 7:00 in the morning. Then I noticed I was REALLY hungry.
#74389
For this troper, it's Tetris. And {{Pokemon}}. Oh sweet CrystalDragonJesus, Pokemon. Especially PokemonMysteryDungeon.....ugh....must...get through.....Quicksand.....Cave!
#74390
Halo Wars for this troper. I owned the game for a grand total of 3 days before I got the achievement "24 Hours of Quality" gotten for playing the game for 24 hours. ''During a school week!'' However, now the event has repeated itself with Halo 3: ODST and Battlefield 2142(again). This troper is also avoiding reactivating his EVE Online account for fear that it will jump on the bandwagon.
#74392
This troper is very glad his Vista laptop tends to suffer errors after about 20 minutes (give or take) of ''IWannaBeTheGuy'', because it means he gets a reminder to stop and eat. (666 deaths and counting!)
#74393
This troper keeps taking study breaks to play ''Mushihime-sama Futari''. Sometimes he'll be up at 4 in the morning playing
[[strike:two five playthroughs of it.
#74394
For this troper, FlightGear (an open-source flight simulation game). (Un)fortunately, it doesn't work correctly on his laptop.
#74395
How about food? Eating certain kinds of snack chips is quite addicting.
#74396
This troper Can't play through KnightsOfTheOldRepublic 2 without completing a full arc every night. This includes Perargus and the beggining of the Telos arc, the entire Telos arc, Dxun and Onderon, Nar Shadaa, etc. All of these take 3-4 hours to complete, with the exception of Nar Shadaa, which takes over 5 hours. I never managed to beat that before 3 in the morning.
#74397
Sorry, but it's ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'' for this troper. When I was younger, it was ''GrandTheftAuto'' and ''{{Counterstrike}}''. I'm still going for ''{{Sims}}'' (preferably 2), though.
#74399
This Troper had a day off a little while ago and decided to dig out Legaia 2: Duel Saga after lunch, just for something to do. *Blink.* ...4am? It can't be 4am, I only got past Balkan... hang on, isn't Balkan the boss of the... eighth lev...el... I need to get to bed.
#74400
This troper saw a discussion on the subject of ultimate game/media addictions. So far, the most addictive concoction was ''
Crackle of
Wartropes''. That's right, {{Cracked}}, ''{{Peggle}}'', WorldOfWarcraft, and TVTropes, all rolled into a single ball. A {{Yangire}} HappyFunBall, if you will.
#74401
Please please tell me I'm not the only one who had 20 hours on Pokémon [=HeartGold=] after 1 day the game was out. Or the fact I beat it in 3 days.
#74402
This Troper spent almost one hundred hours on Heart Gold in the first month it was availible. Considering that I didn't play it for about a third of those days, I averaged out under 5 hours each day I played. (and it looks like I'll double my hours by summer) This Troper is not the only one that kept his Pokéwalker on him everyday since it released, right?
#74403
I put it on my dog. Oh and over the summer I'm gonna make an attempt to go BeyondTheImpossible and catch every pokemon in regular AND shiny forms with gender differences in both (if they have any) and own them all at the same time. Yeah I'm nuts but it will have EPIC bragging rights. I'm gonna make a blog of it, or a list if anyone wants to keep track.
#74404
This troper refuses to go anywhere without hers, to the point of attempting a VictoriasSecretCompartment when wearing a dress. Half of her computer science class brings theirs to school daily. And in refrence to the origional troper's comment- My [=SoulSilver=] is recording a three day gap between beginning and beating the E4 as well. I think my record is around 8 hours from start to E4, on Pearl.
#74405
{{Neopets}}. I used to play hours on this site as a kid.
#74406
This troper started playing ''{{Psychonauts}}'' the day he got it, and nearly beat the game in one sitting. The only reason he didn't was because the game crashed. After ''twelve straight hours'' of play. All I can say is thank goodness autosave was on.
#74407
You think those Tropers earlier had a lot of hours in Pokemon? Try beating this troper's ''999:59'' play time in Pearl version.
#74408
Wait a minute... are you me? O.O My Diamond's play time is EXACTLY 999:59, and it's been like that for about 2 YEARS!
#74409
This troper encountered it first with
Civilization II: Test of Time. Obtained it on a friday, installed saturday morning. At one point, this troper, 9 or 10 at the time, wondered why it was so dark and quiet. It was midnight. Said troper had not eaten or otherwise left the computer for the entire day.
#74410
This troper once, staying at a friend's house and discovering they had ''{{Lemmings}}'', insisted on playing until he'd completed the first six levels of Mayhem -- purely so he could say he'd done
six impossible things before breakfast.
#74411
This troper remembers finishing the first two parts of ''
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn'' in the same day. She also got all the way to Part 3 Ch. 5, but by then her brain was very, very scrambled.
#74412
This happens to me, only with
this site, making it more "Just one more page", or "Just one more example".
#74413
It also happens to me when waiting for GunnerkriggCourt to update. "C'mon, Tom, upload the page so I can read it, lol at the author comment, and go to sleep already!"
#74414
It also happen to me, too. "Just one more page, please", and then BAM! 2 hours were gone...
#74415
Same here, damn you ever growing list of tropes and idioms, damn you.
#74416
{{Minecraft}}. I really should be going now... but wait, I just had a great idea for a nice piece of decor... oooh, what a cute building, I must explore it!
#74417
'''This.''' A shmup or TetrisTGM session as a study break? Done in 10-15 minutes. But Minecraft? The next 2-4 hours are
already gone.
#74418
{{Overlord}} Just...overlord...
#74419
This troper stayed up until six in the morning playing WorldOfWarcraft with her best friend. She only got off because her friend had to go because HER MOM WAS GETTING UP AND WOULD KILL HER IF SHE SAW HER ON THE COMPUTER.
#74420
This troper has had the Just One More Article problem here a few times (finally escaping the vortex after either seven hours or because IE has crashed from having too many windows open, whichever came sooner), and once had a wintertime run on ''TheSettlers'' which started at 5pm and finished when it got light outside.
#74421
This happens to me EVERY time I play The Sims 3.
#74422
For This Troper: Tower. Defence. Games.
#74423
This happens a lot of the time when this troper roleplays online. I'll just wait for her to post one more time... but now I have to get that guy back to the base...
#74424
It takes this troper all of his willpower not to ArchiveBinge a TV show/anime that catches his attention.
#74425
This troper (Ronfar) can top all of that. He deliberately skipped a (midterm) exam in college so he could play Final Fantasy X. (And he passed the course anyway!)
#74426
This troper is worse, especially in WarioWare DIY as he's unable to stop once he gets a scatterbrained idea for a microgame, and WILL NOT SLEEP TIL IT GETS COMPLETED AND SHIPPED TO THE GAME'S STORE. Seriously, it's like 2 AM and he just got an idea involving a mermaid. Even the most over-the-top ideas like a chicken in space NEED to be done.
#74427
This troper has a few, but the best example is probably my obsession with puzzle quest, and my addiction to {{Knights in the nightmare}}. More then once I've stopped a play session only to find that I have been strengthening my equipment for over an hour.
#74428
This one has a few:
#74429
I got ''FinalFantasyX'' for my birthday, and spring break was right after it, so I spent hours playing Blitzball (one more game just one more).
#74430
A friend of mine loaned me his copy of ''Pokemon Platinum'' recently. I. WILL. GET. THOSE. LEGENDARY. BIRDS! I don't have a problem....
really
#74431
As I'm typing, I'm watching the Farmville clock...only one more hour until my plants are ready to harvest. I must keep my eye on that clock, I can't let them wilt! And to make matters worse, right when I decided I would try to cut back on that stupid game, I unlocked some new features. Urrrgh...stupid FarmVille.
#74432
The SouthPark dollmaker flash. It doesn't help that it's constantly being updated, and there are new accessories added regularly. Seriously, who hasn't tried to make every possible character ever on that thing, as well as just throwing random accessories together to see what a character with them would look like? If I still had my old computer, the files of characters made with that would surely indicate how addicted I am.
#74433
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days is REALLY addicting to this troper. "Just one more mission..." is basically her catchphrase. Also, Pokemon Ruby. This troper beat the game in 2 days. Her party pokemon were all at level 55 when she defeated Steven.
#74434
I hear ya on KH: 358/2 Days. Well, except now, since I'm stuck on
the Leechgrave.
#74435
One more try... c'mon, I only need another hour... C'mon guys, we can kill Absolute Virtue....((I lost four days worth of sleep and had to be hospitalized. And I still lost twelve-ish times. Damn you Absolute Virtue!!!!!))
#74436
This troper has about 3 ''{{Final Fantasy X}}'' saved playthroughs whose total play times equal over 1,000 hours.
#74437
This troper is doing this right now. Only one more page of Troper Tales, I swear!
#74438
Damn, you beat me by a mile!
#74439
In the first approximately thirty-two hours after my purchase of JadeEmpire, I'd completed a playthrough with most of the sidequests completed. These days, my addiction of choice is MassEffect, which have resulted in many a lost night.
#74440
This troper's earliest, personal memory of this trope is playing ''LegendOfDragoon'', Disc 2, and trying to navigate the anti-gravity area. I look at the clock and it's 3AM. I look a little while later after some battles and it's past 5AM. I only stopped because I felt an earthquake and finally got to save point. Other games that have done this to me are the
.hack games (so many hours spent on those sidequests),
Sonic Adventure 2 (over 300 hours and those dang, adorable Chaos), SkiesOfArcadia (so many battles and sidequests had me miss my
favorite anime at the time), and the Sonic Mega Collection (unlocking all of those games and finishing when the sun came up).
#74441
Just throwing this out there, but my own mother also did this trope when I was a kid (probably why I was okay with playing
LoD until sunrise). ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'', ''PokemonStadium'', and ''EternalDarkness'' are just a few examples of what I stayed up watching (passing out with the latter and waking up to the system still being on), although only SMRPG had us both up at sunrise when trying to go through those six fricking doors at Bowser's Keep. "Just one more try, just one more try..."
#74442
This troper and ''{{Fallout 3}}'' / ''FalloutNewVegas''. Ok, ok. Just one more quest -- ooh, what's ''that'' building on the horizon? I'll just take a quick look... lather, rinse, repeat. ''Damn'' you, WideOpenSandbox!
#74443
This troper was very happy when the first three ''AceAttorney'' games were released on WiiWare. I would get into investigating, and then I had to go to court, and then I found another suspect, and then...when was the last time I blinked? Why am I so hungry?
#74444
This troper and her friends have a standing joke that whenever you're playing Pokemon, something important will always demand your attention right as you enter a battle, and you haven't saved in a while. Cue lots of nostalgia-inducing "I can't stop Mom! I'm in the middle of a battle!"
#74445
This troper has grown to mostly avert it, but whenever he sees a logic puzzle, be it picross, minesweeper, spider solitaire, sudoku, grid puzzles, etc. up for grabs, he cannot combat the urge to milk it until there is nothing left. No matter how many hours of productivity he's losing for it. He's solved roughly 2500 puzzles of various kinds in about a year.
the guy who mentioned Hanjie: [[SarcasmMode thanks for that!]]
#74446
This troper gets
very easily addicted to games. A new
Pokémon game will easily keep this troper occupied for months. GottaCatchEmAll, you know? On top of that,
Mario,
Sonic, and puzzle games in general (especially {{Tetris}}) also keep this troper busy.
#74447
This troper got Pokemon Platinum yesterday. The only reason she has managed to pull herself away is because if she plays it too long she gets a headache and a crick in her neck, and at some point the pain begins to outweigh the fun.
#74448
I am thoroughly shocked to see {{Scribblenauts}} wasn't mentioned here yet. JUST ONE MORE PIRATE/NINJA FIGHT. PLEASE.
#74449
FreeCell. FRIGGIN' FREECELL. Last night I didn't sleep until 5 in the morning because I had an 8-game winning streak. I lost my mojo after I woke up though, so it's been curbed... for now.
#74450
Tropers/{{Excel-2011}}. What's the worst time to start playing ''{{Disgaea}}''?
night before the start of school. Suffice to say that I nearly gagged when the trope was lampshaded in the start of chapter 7.
#74451
When I started playing {{Psychonauts}} again, nobody watched TV for two days.
#74452
One of this troper's English teachers had a piece of software called My Skills Tutor, which, as it turns out, was a GrammarNazi on LSD. He even mentioned this trope by name when the class realised that it had too many lessons. Turns out, that was averted because My Skills Tutor was a grindy piece of arse with 6 modules and 30 incoherent lessons per module that I didn't want to do but did so anyway. It was so dead boring that my friend just blew it, subverting his end of the trope. Another thing; it was too American, as it won't accept "realise;" it'd have to be "realize."
#74453
Doubly subverted with my current English teacher's system; this time, a PB Works wiki. Despite the fact that the questions themselves were many times incoherent, e.g. "How do people respond to the 'rat-trap' theory of life?" we give them enough examples to help us troll his forums.
#74455
This troper will do this for games she doesn't even like or really care about as for games she does like. . .
#74456
Super Smash Brothers brawl - Two days in which six, or more, hours of them were spent saying, "Must defeat Taboo, just one more try!"
#74457
Pokemon just give me a pokemon game there's a good chance you'll forget I'm in the room.
#74458
Animal crossing- "Must pay off debt . . . Must pay off bigger debt . . . (After paying off all debts). Must make money to donate to the town to get cool stuff to make money to donate to the town . . . One more hour!"
#74459
Then there is Harvest Moon - "One more day . . . One more day . . . One more . . . One more day . . . Oh, Harvest Goddess it's five a.m. in the morning! . . . Just one more day . . ." Then I got my mom addicted . . .
#74460
I have owned Dragon Quest IX for about a month. I have played over 168 hours.
#74461
This troper obsesses over things easily and falls into repetitive habits just as quickly. Pokemon is a killer. As is pretty much any JRPG; collecting stuff, levelling up, right down to memorised button-pressing for particular enemy combinations and set routes through levels (thinking of Etrian Odyssey, the latter is at times essential). When you've been going through menus so much it hurts your fingers, it's time to stop. Although I do remember the time when attempting to beat a minigame on Mario64 put a blister on my palm from rotating the little joystick thing (doing it wrong, I now suspect)... Clearly haven't learnt my lesson.
#74462
Here we go. I rarely have time to put six-hour marathon sessions of games anymore, but I was all over ''StarOceanTheSecondStory'' and ''SkiesOfArcadia'' like that 10 years ago.
Sniff. Good times. Other games that have sent me spiraling into compulsive play: ''PerfectDark'' and ''Left4Dead'' multiplayer sessions. Also, I only learned to love
The Mercenaries after trying it in MP and still love to tap
dat ass from time to time. Finally, ''DissidiaFinalFantasy''. I put, like, what, 150 hours into that game? I also have 100+ hours put into ''Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days'' and
Persona 3 Portable for my PSP. Oh, and TVTropes,
dammit.
#74463
My male cousins whenever they played GrandTheftAuto or Left4Dead on my laptop. What's funny is the fact that my 5-year-old girl cousin who's only watching is the one who doesn't them want to stop. #QUOTE#'''Me''': Dude, my laptop's gonna be scrap heap by morning.\\ '''Male Cousin 1''': Lemme finish this mission first...\\ '''Male Cousin 2''': Hey! I haven't even played yet, dammit!\\ '''Me''': Seriously. Guys.\\ '''5-year-old Girl Cousin''': Shhhh, he's beating up an old granny! Look, blood!
#74464
I am pretty bad at this regarding all games, but the
Assassin's Creed series hits me the worst. Oh hey look, I got enough money to buy that new weapon! Oh hey look, I didn't know I could kill someone this way. Cool! I found a dungeon! Now I'm one step closer to the
Infinity Plus One Armor! Wait, I need to send my recruits on that job. Well, I should continue the plot and go to the next memory, shouldn't I?
#74465
This troper has never lost so much sleep to any game as he has to
Monster Hunter Tri. I would usually start playing at 10-11pm and play until at least 2am, and sometimes much later (or earlier). #QUOTE# '''Kagerou''': "It's light outside." #QUOTE# '''Farron''': "Crap."
#74466
This troper, especially since he got his DS. Most recently, this has included games like ''Picross''.
#74467
This troper plays Pokemon quite often, won't get off Tribal Wars easily, and has a habit of staying on the Xbox very late. His Pokemon times have sometimes reached 300 hours.
#74468
When this troper moved off campus in college, one of the first things he did was install Homeworld2 on his computer. 18 hours later he finally realized that he had missed a couple of meals...
#74469
No mention of
Visual Novels? While
YMMV if they can be considered true videogames, they certainly are no less addicting. As anyone who plays Visual Novels can tell you, it's nearly impossible to stop once you start. Just One More Click eventually becomes Just One More Character Route. Notable Visual Novels for this troper include
#74470
Sengoku Rance - Who needs sleep when I can rape just one more woman?
