I honestly have no idea what color my eyes are any more. Normallly they look big and brown and Bambi-ish, but other times they look more black than anything, other times they seem kind of hazel-ish, and once I glanced into the mirror to discover they had taken on a deep copper-y, almost red color that almost made me jump out of my skin. It probably has something to do with blood pressure, seeing as they're all variations of what is essentially the same color, but it still weirds me out a lot.

This troper has plain brown eyes that don't change color under any circumstances that he's aware of, but he's used this trope once or twice in roleplaying games before:

A supporting character in an older RPG had this trope in spades, with eyes that would cycle through the visible spectrum seemingly at random. It's a subversion of sorts here; this girl's eyes could only perceive light from the astral plane, an ability called the Mystic Eyes of Ether Sight. Ironically it was also her {{fatal flaw}}, since said eyes couldn't perceive light from the visible spectrum and she was totally blind.

A main character this troper started using recently also has this trope, but it's justified here since said character is a {{shapeshifter}} who regards his/her ability to do this as a neat party trick.

This troper's eyes change shades of blue seemingly at random, and do not match either of his parents. The strange thing is that the colors don't seem to be changing while you're watching, but they do. Note, they don't change with mood.

What you most often see (green to brown) is caused by the fact that at different dilations, the areas of the iris either show or are crinkled up like fabric. Look close enough, and you'll see that the two are mixed - but from a distance, people will see it as being whichever color has the most visible surface area. That's also the reason it may vary based on mood, or as one person noticed, lack of sleep. Both of those affect the amount your eyes will be dilated.

It's rare for lighting to make brown look like a different color, but under certain lights green, grey, and blue can easily look like one another. It's similar to how a car may look like a different color at night or under certain lighting, even though the composition of the paint doesn't change.

My own eyes are blue-grey with dominant grey, but unfocused they can go from light sky blue to concrete gray, depending on the lighting and how close to tears I am. I have grey eyes, I think. My eyes don't change according to mood (I've never bothered checking) but rather according to what I wear. This troper has what she considers blue eyes that randomly change to a sea green or grey, sometimes in between. She figured it was one of those things that depended on lighting or what she was wearing, but she's been told in the middle of conversations that her eyes just changed colors.

Also, in a fanfic this troper was working on, the main character had eyes that changed colour due to a curse that she was born with--this same character also could not kill because before she killed anyone or anything, she would always get a vision of the character's family. Her colour changing eyes had to do with when she was having a vision or not.

I have these to an extent. My eyes are normally somewhat hazel, but they can go green, brown, or occasionally even bluish depending on lighting.

Normally, my eyes are dark blue, but they can also look silver in early morning, which, I am here to tell you, looks pretty damn cool. But sometimes, people think my eyes are cloudy gray, and a few think that they're ''green'' of all things, and some people ask, "What color ARE your eyes, anyway?"
