You know, in the higher-end part of Manila, words such as legendary and wait for it are falling into use. Because of Barney Stinson, awesome has also fallen back into common use. I also catch myself saying 'major ____' whenever someone says the same thing, but in a different context.

I must admit, I have a complete inability to speak like a normal teenager. I've always been LittleProfessorDialogue, and it's only gotten worse as my vocabulary has increased.

This troper finally heard a little girl say Oh Em Gee in real life.\\ There is no G.
#130254
When troper does use slang, he invokes this deliberately. Using appropriate slang would just feel weird.
#130255
This troper's teacher used the word "Awes!" on A papers. He still didn't realise how uncool it was when we called him out for it.
#130256
OrangeAipom is trying to make up a new slang. "Hipster" is a noun that means "hip person". So, I decided to make "coxa" an adjective that replaces hip, but still use the word hipster. I can't think of a better word for that yet.
#130257
This Troper's girlfriend has recently taken to saying "Epic" to describe damn near anything. I told her I'd shoot a kitten every time she says it. I think she says it more now. D'oh!

I had a teacher who used the phrase "Totally Radical Dude" (imagine this said with a stuffy, upper-class British accent) to describe webpage design in which someone started out by reaching for the "phattest and most excellent code moves." Then he asked if we thought his use of such words was cringeworthy, before showing us a businuess webpage so designed. Cue silent horror...--then ''everyone'' cracked up in disbelief. We who were in his class still talk about "Totally Radical Dude webdesign".

Buddy Christ has been displayed unironically at Catholic schools.

Cor blimey. This troper is not alone! It's mostly a mix of stereotypical British slang (for the irony), and some (mostly American) 80s slang. But it helps build this troper's fame - especially the tendency to drop a few sha'mones.

Today my Religious Ed teacher was talking about the Sermon on the Mount, and how Jesus wants us to be humble and poor in spirit. Then this happened: #QUOTE#'''Teacher''': Sometimes we say to ourselves, "I totally want a new crib. Or a new ride. Or lots of stacks." #QUOTE#'''Whole Class''': *facepalm* #QUOTE#'''Teacher''': I'm just trying to speak you guys's language! #QUOTE#'''Whole Class''': *HUGE facepalm*

This editor has a friend who acts like this, wearing backwards baseball caps all the time and saying things like "Whassup, boyee?" and "Yeah-hah!". When I'm around him, I play along with it ironically, though I have no idea if he's doing it ironically himself or is just outdated.
#130263
This troper also deliberately uses it, albeit out of RuleOfFunny. Especially since he likes to speak in ''feminine'' Totally Radical.

I write a lot of teen short comedies and one of my greatest flaws (at least in my early work) was the use of dated slang; Nowadays, I just avert it by using more normal language.
#130265
This troper is trying to bring "truly outrageous" back into mainstream use. He also thinks that painfully dated rap slang is straight off the heezy, son. A'ight?
#130266
I use the word "rad," accentuate "boy" when insulting someone, call strangers "honey," and generally sound like something from the early 90s. I use "a'ight" way too damn much, and "sick" and "bitching;" just many out-dated or obscure slang. Plus boatloads of Brit slang; "bollocks," "bugger," "bloody/hell." I honestly have no clue why. Although it explains why modern slang has a tendency to go right over my head.

This troper who moved from Israel to Germany at the age of 12 doesn't usually use slang and prefers using lame chat-speak which can't even be pronounced properly, but she's technically capable of using proper German slang. In Hebrew, on the other hand, she's stuck with the same level she was at back when she was 12, and she was so much of a nerd back then that it hurts. English slang is hardly comprehensible for her, but it's mostly self-learned anyway.

This british, female teenager likes to talk like a SurferDude. Although she has been slipping into ValleyGirl somewhat lately.
#130269
My friend owns a Sega Genesis. I was at his house one day, and during a game of StreetsOfRage, he decided to point out that people back in the '90s thought that it was cutting edge. Then, I invoked this in my best SurferDude voice. Now we do this almost every time we play 16-bit games. #QUOTE# '''Me:''' WHOOOA DUUUUUUDE! Check out these rad graphics, maaaaaaaan! #QUOTE# '''Him:''' Duuuuuuuuude, check out the killer sound FX! #QUOTE# '''Me:''' '''WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! TOTALLY RAD, DUUUDE!'''

This troper realized that there was no god when he, on his nieces confirmation ceremony, was exposed to a Totally Radical rap about the ten commandments performed by two thirty-something pastors, as the confirmands tried their best to sink through the floor...

in the orientation assembly for the first day of my 7th grade class (back in 1990) the principal of our school in an effort to relate to the youth that failed MISERABLY made a spandex superhero costume and appeared at the assembly as Commander Cookie! with the promise that the students who made the best grades would be visited in class by this persona who would give them a cookie, half the school facepalmed and the other half laughed him off stage, Commander Cookie was never seen since
#130272
This troper upon noticing she missed several waves of new slang terms just decided to continue with those she grew up with, fitting into a retro fan image. Then for the fun of it she started using the same dated slang in other languages. Swell!
#130273
Today, in This Tropette's history class, we were forced to listen to an awful educational rap song about the Trail of Tears. The teacher expected us to take this 100% seriously.
#130274
This troper has a penchant for either being very behind on slang (since I don't listen to a lot of new music) or liking the sound of old slang. Preferred terms include bitchin', cherry, cool beans, rad and ballin'. I also really like science fiction and foreign slang.
#130275
This Troper uses this all the time. Mainly using the phrases "dude" and "man" constantly in reference to everyone (even girls). I also use "totally" all the time, too, though, along with phrases like "brownie points" (which is apparently really outdated?) I also found the phrase "razz my berries" (meaning you find something cool, i.e. 'that game razzes my berries') in a 50s slang dictionary, which I absolutely ''love'' and am trying to bring back into common parlance.
#130276
Where I'm from, that sounds like a VERY sexual reference.
#130277
This troper is a young teenager, yet he still thinks out-dated slang is used. He rarely uses slang though, but he is polite and won't think twice about calling someone "sweetie" or "honey" (especially when correcting them).
