ThemeNaming
#124828
My mother's favorite aunt lives on the corner of two streets, which my brother and I are named after. It is now a tradition for us to pose for a photo under the street sign whenever we visit said aunt.
#124829
This troper knows a family whose children all had names starting with T (and ending with some combination of er or or). There were four of them, I think. My sophomore year French teacher's siblings all had names starting with C.
#124830
This troper loves ShoutOutThemeNaming. One graphic novel she plans on publishing some day features a plucky PowerTrio of fairies who later become {{Fairy Companion}}s to the full-sized cast. Their names are Terra, Aqua, and Ventus. And just for bonus points: Ventus absolutely positively ''hates'' the cold.
#124831
This troper has a similar naming convention in [=FireRed=]. I named my character Roxas, named my Charmander Axel, my Pikachu Larxene, my Abra Luxord, my Nidorino Lexaeus, my Mankey Saix and my Vaporeon Demyx, and my rival Xemnas. I'm not a major fan of the series but the names just fit, and they are even all the right genders!
#124832
This troper saw this and wondered immediately 'What about Air? Shouldn't you have a 'Sylph' of 'Aether' as well?' before realizing it was Kingdom Hearts being referenced, not the greek elements.
#124833
This troper's dad named all the family dogs after Shakespeare characters. My first two dogs were Hamlet and Ophelia. They were half-siblings. {{Squick}} indeed.
#124834
@/{{Aeiouna}} This troper's mother named her and her two sisters after soap opera characters.
#124835
Whenever one of @/{{Lurkerbunny}}'s cats had kittens, she would name them after groups of ''Series/DoctorWho'' companions (One litter was Jamie, Zoe, and Victoria; another was Adric, Nyssa and Tegan; etc.). These names were only temporary, as eventually the kittens would be given away to friends and re-named.
#124836
@/TromboneChild once had a discussion with her 11-year-old sister in which they decided that said troper would give her children ''Series/DoctorWho''-related names: Christopher David/David Christopher (couldn't decide; if there were twin boys, they'd be Christopher Patrick and David Peter--9-2 and 10-5), Martha Rose, and Sarah Jane (and possibly Billie Freema).
#124837
This troper has known several couples who named their children by theme. One couple I knew named their children after the Virtues: faith, hope, love, etc.
#124838
This troper's parents named their children in alphabetical order starting at K. Thank god they didn't have more.
#124839
How odd. @/KickingK's parents did the same. Obviously, she is the eldest.
#124840
This troper's father and his siblings are also alphabeticals, although they actually started from A. The G changed her name - to something else beginning with G.
#124841
From this troper's family: three brothers (Kyle, Ty, and Dylan) and three sisters (Katie, Kristy, and Kelsey). Note: on separate sides of the family tree.
#124842
Not really theme naming, but this troper knew a former teacher who told her that she used to have three female pupils from totally unrelated families who were respectively called (in French) Vierge, Immaculee and Conception (Virgin, Immaculate and Conception). Moreover, it was in a Catholic school. To avoid confusing the three little girls, the teacher always put them in that order!
#124843
This troper's friend, named Lemoine ("The monk" in French) had two friends in school called Cardinal and Lévesque ("The bishop"). Some teachers would refer to their group as "the Clergy".
#124844
What is it with french people and theme naming? This troper always felt bad for a girl she knew in high school: she was called Euphrates and her brother was called Tigre (Tigris). Yes, they were named after the rivers of Babylon.
#124845
This troper's grandmother gave her mother and one of her aunts middle names from Wagner's Ring Cycle: Brunhilde and Sieglinde.
#124846
This troper thinks that sort of thing should be (now, if not then) grounds for a child abuse suit. Even if they ''are'' just middle names.
#124847
This troper's grandparents named their daughters Jackie, Julie and Jane. When asked what other names they would have chosen had they had more children, they replied 'Jenny, Jill, or James for a boy'
#124848
This troper sympathizes with your aunts, as she and her sisters all have not only the same first initial, but the same middle initial as well.
#124849
When this troper's father was in Officer Candidate School (USMC), he trained with two twin brothers (named Smith) who not only had the same first name (John), but also had the same middle initial.
#124850
At fathers side of this tropers family (me and my sisters too), everybodys name start with R. Reason? My grandparents names happened to start with it.
#124851
Coincidentally, both of this troper's parents have the same middle name, so they decided to give it to their children. Originally, their son's given name was to be after a great-grandfather and his middle name was to be after a grandfather, but they didn't want him to feel left out. So now his given name is after both the grandfather and the great-grandfather, and this troper thinks it's a great shame that her parents rarely pull the FullNameUltimatum.
#124852
This troper's Literature teacher was named Ayax. Ayax is the Spanish writing for Ajax. You know, that one. His brother's name is Aquiles, Spanish for Achilles. So yeah. His parents sure loved reading Homer.
#124853
This troper's grandmother named all her male children starting with the letter T. Terry, Tim, Tom, Tony, Ted, and Todd. For whatever reason, the two girls, Annalise and Rosemary, were spared. This troper also went to school with 5 siblings named for 5 of the 7 virtues. They weren't happy about it, particularly Chastity.
#124854
This troper's dad and his brothers all start with D, and the honorary fourth brother was Dammit because of the constant screw ups by grandma.
#124855
This troper and his siblings' names: Joshua, Jennifer, Jonathan, Jeremy, and James. My folks always justify it by saying "we couldn't very well have Joshua, Jennifer, Jonathan, Jeremy, and Fred!"
#124856
This troper knows a brother and sister named Journey (for the band Journey) and Epic (for Epic Records, Journey's label.) It's a debate over whether the newly expecting mom will name the new baby Steve, or something more abiguous like Perry.
#124857
Journey's record label (Steve Perry-Era) was Columbia, or (Augeri-era) Sanctuary. Currently it's Wal-Mart. Epic fan-fail.
#124858
This troper once wrote a story where all the bad guys were named after mythological monsters.
#124859
@/{{Bob}} and his siblings all have one forename from from TheBible and one from a Saint. The names used in everyday life all have six letters. And in case it wasn't obvious: @/{{Bob}} isn't his real name.
#124860
This troper's girlfriend (and her two siblings) were given unusual names simply because they were unusual.
#124861
My dad used to name his fish after football players. However, as the fish died, the corresponding players would leave the team. We all found this thoroughly creepy and, not wanting to lose any more good players, started to name any new fish after long-dead politicians.
#124862
@/HersheleOstropoler's first name and his sister's first name and middle initial are anagrams. His parents swear it's coincidence.
#124863
This Troper knows a family who conceived a boy named Christopher, followed by a girl named Robin. The older brother (now in college) keeps the Pooh}} the appropriate memorabilia in his dorm room as a joke.
#124864
@/{{Shaon}} once had a trio of geese named Klaatu, Barada, and Nikto.
#124865
@/GwenStacyWannabe's mother joked about naming her children "Bambi" and "Rudolph". (Our last name...yeah, it has to do with a four-legged woodland creature. Guess which one.) Fortunately, she was just kidding.
#124866
But then this troper also does the theme naming thing - she has two Betta fish whose names are Faramir and Eowyn. And after they go to the Big Fishbowl in the Sky she plans to get another pair, and they will be either Nightcrawler and Shadowcat, Aang and Katara, or Robin and Starfire.
#124867
This troper names her pet rats after tough women who travel through time. The current pair are Verity Kindle and Martha Jones.
#124868
@/SeanTucker, if he has two girls and a boy, will name them Asuka, Rei, and Shinji respectively. ...yeah.
#124869
From Wookieepedia's quote database: "I found three kittens in the garage hanging around my bits and pieces I'm using for my Dalek, so I named the kittens Thay, Jast, and Caan."
#124870
Whenever she has kids, @/DarkInsanity13 plans to have her kids middle names be after her favourite anime characters. For the first boy, it would be Edward, and for the first girl she's stuck between Maka, Lina, and Orihime. She hopes her future husband won't mind. She also names most of her create-a-character characters in Disgaea after OC children from her various shippings.
#124871
This Troper calls his hypothetical children Squall/Leon, Cloud, and Yuna respectively. Although, after reading the "Vierge, Immaculee and Conception" entry, he is considering changing them to the French words for something...
#124872
When This Troper has kids, they will be called either Mal, Inara, Kaylee, Jayne, Simon, River, Zoe, Wash, Book or Serenity Yes, If I have 10 kids, 50% of them are guarenteed to hate me.
#124873
@/{{Sikon}}: I periodically need to create test user accounts for a web application I'm maintaining. Since the "First Name" and "Last Name" fields are mandatory on the form, I'm naming them after the HiME in the order in which their powers are revealed.
#124874
This troper's neighbors had a pair of ferrets named Harley and Davidson.
#124875
This troper name is Anthony, and this troper brother is Mario. It seems like my parents were really into the French Queens...
#124876
@/{{howverynoneuclideanofyou}} is named Jude and his semi-stepsister is named Ruby ... our dog is named Layla.
#124877
My oldest cousins, from mother and father's sides, are named Andrés and Andrea, respectively. Meanwhile, the youngest ones (until a few years ago) were Javiera and Javiér, also respectively. Made it interesting when the Javis met.
#124878
At the children's museum where @/TromboneChild volunteers, I once met four young siblings (three boys and one girl) with unusual, mythology-laced names: Orion, Griffin, Phoenix, and Azure (the one girl). The last one is just a color, but it still seems to fit, somehow.
#124879
My neighbours are called Siri and Iris. Their parents swear it's a coincidence.
#124880
@/{{Grave Dave}}'s family used to name our cats after famous generals, like Sherman, Napoleon and Jackson, but we've since broken it and now have cats named Gigi, Coffee and Kitengei.
#124881
This troper's sewing machine, dressform and serger are named Stella, Rutee and Flynn respectively.
#124882
This troper was named after a soap opera character. His brother was named after the actor that played said character.
#124883
This troper named his Fallout 3 character "Kamina" ~ get it? A mans dad leaves for the surface, and he follows in his footsteps? Funny, right?
#124884
This troper and his two brothers all share the middle name Michael, each one in honor of the previous brother. And the name Michael itself came from our older sister, Michelle.
#124885
@/{{Cameoflage}} and her sister both have names starting with H and ending with a Y (Hilary and Haley). This may be a family tradition, since our mother and uncle are named Trudy and Tracy. Additionally, this troper, her mother, and her grandmother all have the same middle name; this troper is the oldest girl and her mother is the only girl in their respective generations of the family, although her grandmother was the second or third child of something like ten siblings.
#124886
This troper engaged in it herself with her laptops; the first one (now dead) was named HAL, and her new one is GLaDOS. If she requires a third one for some reason, it will be named SHODAN.
#124887
Additionally, in an RP I have a set of ArtificialHuman sisters: Beta, Gamma, Delta, Zeta, Sigma, and Marisol.
#124888
This troper has a dog named Pepper, and has joked that if she gets a male dog, she will insist on naming it Tony.
#124889
This Troper had a teacher in high school who had three daughters and was expecting a fourth. Their names were Makaila, Misty, and Macy, and the names the had picked out for their next child were Madison or Miles. He swore that it was an accident the first time but that they decided to continue with the theme when his wife got pregnant a third time.
#124890
This troper's sister did the same thing, the first being Makhyla, then Majia accidently, so they went with it and named the third girl Marissa. When she got pregnant for the fourth and final time, the M name was almost kicked off because....it was a boy! He ended up with the name Montay, yes pronounced as it's spelled, It's different from Monty. (I was up for the name 'Mason').
#124891
This troper, upon getting an Apple [=PowerBook=] some time ago, named it Alphonse. He then renamed his previous Gateway laptop Arakawa, after the mangaka who draws herself as a cow, and his external hard drive Sciezka. And then he got a new 13" [=MacBook=], which of course got named Edward...
#124892
Ditto this troper that names his laptops Clar'''is''' and Ir'''is'''. Yes, it has to be girl names, with Iris, the smaller of the two being a {{pettanko}}.
#124893
In this Troper's family, the first son of the first son is named Harold. A subversion is that at least they were until my cousin changed his name. And he seem to have no intention of naming his son Harold.
#124894
For this trooper, my parents matched the first letter of their names to the children that shared their sex. Easy enough to do with Jack (my father) and Joshua, but much harder for Holly (my mother), Heather, Hope, and Harmony. They really struggled when it came to name Harmony, let me tell you. However, my grandparents used an even stranger naming convention for my father and uncle. My father is named Jack E. (the E doesn't stand for anything) and my uncle is named Steve N. (ditto for the N). Odd, but even stranger, their last name begins with M! This trooper recognized a pattern with his father's initials early on. However, it wasn't until much later that I was horrified to realize my uncle shared the same pattern!
#124895
This troper's father is D.F.M. The Third. Yes, he shares the name of his father and grandfather. No, my little (and only) brother is named Christopher. Alternatively, my mother was going to be named "Elizabeth", but she became a "Lisa" instead. Guess what happened when I was born? Baby Elizabeth. Take that gramps!
#124896
This troper's friend's grandpa named all his kids with names that started with "K". All the girls had the initials "KKK" and yes, he is racist. Also, another friend of mine had her parents name their daughters Ally, Brandy, and Celina. (ABC)
#124897
This troper wants to name his old computer Osaka and his newer one Chiyo: y'know, one's big and slow, the other is young and smart. The names stand also for '''O'''pen '''S'''ource '''A'''rchaic '''K'''omputer '''A'''ppliance and '''C'''omputer '''H'''ardware '''I'''nterface for '''Y'''usual '''O'''peration. Now he wants to get an external hard drive and call it the '''Y'''omi '''O'''pus of '''M'''aintained '''I'''nformation, and start calling his flash drive the '''T'''iny '''O'''bject for '''M'''essage '''O'''rganization. ...I think I need a girlfriend.
#124898
This troper likes to theme name groups of Pokemon, particularly related ones- for instance Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf were named "Brains", "Heart", and "Nerve" respectively- not just a reference to Main/TheWizardOfOz but also what those Pokemon actually stand for. The most recent example was trying to get a female Burmy that could evolve into Wormadam- he got several males in a row, and because this was the reverse of Henry VIII's issues with wanting a son, he named them all Henry with Roman numerals... but never got to VIII, as the eighth one was the female!
#124899
This troper names the squirrels in the backyard--hey, he's lonely--after famous movie stars. There's Charlton Heston, Doris Day, Charlie Chaplin, etc.
#124900
This troper's and his brother's names mean the same thing in different languages, ''by accident''. (Mom just liked this troper's name, and Bro was named after a great-uncle.)
#124901
@/{{Nomic}} suspects there might have been some kind of theme naming goign on with him and his brother, as we both have the same amount of letters in our name, and the last syllable is the same (Petri and Henri)
#124902
Also, the above troper's highschool math teacher had three daughters who all had a two-part name. While thei'r full names didn't resemble eachother in any other regard, they were generally shortened very similarly (Riikkis, Hannis and Eevis). He also had a son but his name didn't fit the theme (which is why this troper can't recall it).
#124903
This troper plans to name his children in Japanese, just to MindScrew his relatives.
#124904
Possible inversion: This troper might have his first name from after Kyle Reese from TheTerminator, though he doubts that. His middle name Bennett is after his grandmother's maiden name.
#124905
This troper shares my dad's first name; my brother has the same middle name as our dad. (We both have his last name, obviously).
#124906
This troper lives down the street from a family where both parents have names that start with K. Same with their kids. All six of them (cmon, there ''has'' to be a trope for having a lot of kids like that.)
#124907
My first and middle names are from my Grandfathers on my Father and Mothers sides, respectively. Though being the oldest son in an Italian family, this means I broke the tradition of being named after my Grandfather on my fathers side, only to fall for it anyway.
#124908
This troper has begun naming things after the various angels of christian mythology, using angels who're patrons of fitting to whatever I'm naming. Two of my Fallout 3 characters are Azrael (angel of death, playing a warrior character), and Uriel (angel of prophecy and enlightenment, diplomatic and intellectual character). Likewise my new iPod will be named Sandalphon (patron angel of music). Alittle more obscure than your usual naming theme, but it does give everything a distinct and cool sounding name.
#124909
This troper's step-sisters names are Heather, Hillary, and Hayley.
#124910
My father and grandfather's names are both Albert. My name is Alex, and I also have a cousin named Alex, whose father is Alan. If I have a son, I'm naming him Alfred. If I have a daughter, I'm naming her Allison.
#124911
George Foreman has 10 children, and each of his five sons are named George: George Jr., George III, George IV, George V, and George VI. They are also known by the nicknames "Monk," "Monk II," "Monk III," "Monk IV," and "Barry".
#124912
This troper theme names to a ridiculous degree all his characters and all his Pokemon. Three siblings in a anime-based message board roleplay? Translated to Heaven Arrow, Dragon Arrow, and Time Arrow. Characters in an original story? Named in a specific old language. Pokemon? Named after specific character in shows/games. Oddly enough, his fish are the only things he named that don't follow a theme.
#124913
@/TsundeRay has three ''DJMAX Technika'' cards, all with names based on ''-dere'' personalities: TSUNDERAY:the game won't let you put in more than 8 characters for your DJ name, KUUDERAY, and YANDERAY.
#124914
An old teacher of This Troper's mother and his brothers were named after Nazi Generals. (The one she knows of is called Guerin Picado)
#124915
@/{{Turtleducks}} and one of her friends have a (now identified as female) guinea pig named Rorschach and a rat named Ozymandias, respectively. She also plans on naming any future pets she has after movie stars, starting with a barn cat named Cat Gable (he has a mustache, and is named after Clark Gable) and a hairless cat in the future named Bela Lugosi.
#124916
This troper named a litter of kittens Sydney, Miss Parker, Broots, and Jared.
#124917
@/EtherealFrog theme names every {{Mon}} he gets now. In Pearl, all of my {{Pokemon}} are named are characters from my favorite {{Pokemon}} FanFics. Also in {{Disgaea}}, my first caster is named BillNye, my second caster BarackObama, my first fighter Bill Cosby, and my ninja Jesus.
#124918
It's very common for the hostnames of computers on a LAN to have a naming theme. The computer science department at this troper's university used to use names ending in "ix" (probably because of {{UNIX}}), including some of the same names used in ''{{Asterix}}''. Also, this troper tends to use the names of varieties of tea for hostnames.
#124919
This troper, when he briefly played mysqlgame over a year ago (when it was new), named his rows after Japanese {{Mahjong}} terms: Pinfu, Tsumo, Tsuuiisou, Kokushimusou, Daisangen, Ippatsu, Houtei, Chiitoitsu, Agari, Yakuman, Riichi, Rinshan Kaihou, Sanshoku Doujun, Sanbaiman, Ryuuiisou, Shousuushii, Nagashi Mangan, Haitei, Tenhou, Suuanko, Tenpai. (They're scattered throughout Shard 3, if anybody wants to check. They'll be around for some time, since this troper upgraded to the point where his rows' deletion vulnerability won't kick in until over ''three years'' of inactivity, and he just logged in to check the names.)
#124920
This troper knows two old French ladies, twins, born on May 9, 1945, right after 'Victory in Europe Day'. They're named France Aimée (beloved France) and Victoire Désirée (desired victory).
#124921
This troper knows a family with five kids, all their names beginning with A. And another family, parents are Tim and Kim, and all the kids (six boys) start with J.
#124922
This troper's family has three kids, and their names all start with K. In hindsight, that's probably not a good thing.
#124923
This troper has a female cat named Samus and a male cat named Ridley. Luckily they get along just fine.
#124924
Theme Naming seems to follow me no matter where I go. The first example is that my name, and both of my parents names, all start with D. My older sister was spared from this, but both of us are named after respectively our mother and father. My sister only got my moms middle name as a middle name, I got my dad's entire name. I'm changing it when I get the cash to change my middle and/or last name since my dad remarried into a family where I now have an uncle who goes by the shortened form of my name.
#124925
Characters in a recent RPG I made each have names based on a character from the game they get their powers from. Examples include Neku, Haruka Hunta, and David Redgrave to name a few. Theme naming extends to the real user of the Kingdom Hearts based one, but not the current one(his twin).
#124926
I was writing up a Sentai fic and decided to give each character a surname from toku or anime. I soon realized the guys last names all started with K and everyone's first name has an A in it. All eight. I got bored and decided to change some names around so that they all had K last names. It doesn't help its called ''K''inenger.
#124927
Finally, my second gamespot username is [=DarkMecha08=]. I then realized that my first and middle initials matched with my username and my last intial with my previous one ([=Blazr10K=] to shorten it). I laughed.
#124928
@/{{Boo}} and her younger sister are called Rachel and Rebecca. What's more, we have the same middle name. Our initials are 'RMM', which is fairly cool because it's a motorbike noise.
#124929
For Theater, This Troper had to create a character for the winter play. Cue the creation of Rhapsody Kensington, a music-obsessed senior who's almost always wearing her headphones. Also, her favorite song is, surprise, "Bohemian Rhapsody" because it was the first time she'd see or heard her name used for anything. Also, This Troper realized after their creation that three of her characters, all related, had names that started with 'S'. Storm (brother), Serenity (sister), and Sophitia (mother). This Troper's last name also starts with an 'S'.
#124930
Nearly everyone in this troper's family has a surname as their middle name, e.g. Gilbert, Houston, Molloy, Jakes, Hayes, Evans, ect.
#124931
This troper has two dogs- a Jack Russell called Tony and a Shiba Inu called Curtis. The theme naming was totally accidental.
#124932
Technically, this wasn't "Theme Naming" as a funny incident involving names, but in this troper's English class, there were two boys with an ironic name coincidence. Their names? John and Denver.
#124933
This troper is in the middle of writing a story (LOL, well, if you know me, that's most likely what I'm doing in my spare time.) in which the lead character is a young sorceress named Rebecca, and her love interest is named Richard. Although this trope just barely applies/was adverted due to the fact that they often refer to each other by nicknames beginning in different letters.
#124934
This troper is a puppeteer who uses song titles for examples of names for characters.
#124935
However, these names are usually just for prototypes. For example, the name Maggie stuck while "Iris" was later changed to a more gender-neutral character with a matching name
#124936
My father, older brother, and I all have first names that start with "Br..." and middle names that start with "St..." My brother's a Junior, and for some reason my parents felt like building a pattern from there. And yes, "Brandy Stephanie" and the extremely {{Libby}}-sounding "Brianna Stacy" would have been their choices if they had girls. Hopefully they wouldn't have more than two, since I can't think of any others.
#124937
This troper has had plenty:
#124938
In a ''{{Digimon}}'' story, three antagonists called "The Triplets" were named Marian, Damian, and Lucian.
#124939
In ''ShadowHearts'', everyone was named Aurael, Ariel, Nathaniel, Raphael, and Daniel. Except for Yuri, who was named "Shiro" for some unknown reason. Another time, he decided to name Alice, "Eggs" (Because Roger ''Bacon'' called her "sister"), everyone else was called "poached", "Deviled", "Benedict", "Boiled", "Scrambled".
#124940
Two ''KingdomHearts'' [=OCs=]. Tori, the tomboyish type had her keyblades that looked like cars (Due to her being able to attack with both sides, eg double teethed). Thus her keyblades were named after car models or companies. So they were stuff like Fiat, Reventon, Espada, Civic, Vibe, Sierra, etc. The other, Brian, was a nerdy bookworm dude so they were named after DoorStopper books/series or just famous ones. Like say War and Peace, Brave Story, Wheel of Time, Great Expectations, The Witcher, etc.
#124941
This troper's current d20 modern campaign has all the antagonists named after a color. It started as a shorthand two of them before they were named, one being the red oni the other being blue, it stuck then expanded to include every other character.
#124942
This troper knows three siblings who's initials are all CWB and the sum of the letters of their given names all total to 11.
#124943
At this troper's high school there were two teachers named RobinHood ("Bob") and John Little.
#124944
This troper's dad is named James. His brother and sister are John and Julie. Pet-related, I once had some goldfish I named Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Raphael.
#124945
Everyone in This Troper's family has a name that begins with L.
#124946
My three cousins all have names that begin with K
#124947
This Troper's friend named all of her pets magic-themed names. Merlin and Pixie were huskies, while Abracadabra was a cat.
#124948
This troper once saw a particularly egregious example combined with a heavy dose of XtremeKoolLetterz while she was driving. The SUV in front of her had those little stick figure decals that tell people how big your family is on the rear window; this family had four girls and one baby boy. The names listed under the kids' stick figures went, going from left to right: Matti, Minni, Molli, Merri, Miles. The last is a borderline OddNameOut, considering how difficult it is to come up with a boy's name that follows the "M-vowel-double consonant-I" pattern.
#124949
This troper does this from time to time with his stories; in his most recent work, the villains are all named after various songs that he likes
#124950
Through a long, arbitrary, ultimately unimportant and truly random process, this troper and his friends ended up with: Spanky, monkey}} Skippy, and Slappy. We have more available, including: sparky, spoony, spunky, and tim. We hope to keep the numbers growing.
#124951
I know someone named Jerry who has mentioned frequently going to clubs with his friend Tom. This might not sound like theme naming at first, but as he pointed out, when you and your friend introduce yourselves as TomAndJerry, people seem to be a little skeptical.

This troper has a case of accidental theme naming going on with her cats. One, my family named Elliot just because we liked the name. The second one was named Kelso, after Micheal Kelso. It wasn't until a few months later that we actually got into Scrubs. Needless to say, all future pets will be named things like The Janitor and Turk Turkleton.

This Troper crosses it with ShoutOut and RunningGag for her BioWare games. Her Bhaalspawn is a ChaoticGood Ranger named Shane. Her Light-Side, female version of Revan is named Niko, and her default MassEffect run is the Engineer class, (mostly) Paragon Walter Shepherd. All three were named for her fallback fandom/favorite obscure cartoon. Her Gray Wardens, however, were named for their sister series.

Schol-R-LEA: In one place I worked I was given free rein to choose the machine names for three groups of ten computers each. The first group I gave them the names of composers (Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, etc.) and the second, inventors (Tesla, Franklin, Edison, etc.). The third group, however, I noticed wasn't used much... so I decided to play a bit of a joke. The names I gave the last group of computers were : Clyde, Emma, Joe, Bob, Kerry, Lysander, Benjamin, Big-Bill, Bonnie, and Noam. I figured no one would guess the pattern, and as far as I know, I was right.

This Troper nicknames his Pokémon as characters from other things who remind me of them. My "Special Team" in Black, for example, features Swanna, Pidgeot, Beeheeyem, Lopunny, Gallade and Furret. Their names? Haruhi, Kyon-kun, YukiNagato, Mikuru, Itsuki-kun and Tsuruya.

The names of This Troper's "priest"-type characters in [=MMO=]s? '''Kh'''iyomi, '''Kh'''asiim, and Taua'''kh'''ina. But to be fair, only the last was deliberate.

The roughly translated given (first and middle) names of this troper and his siblings, in order from Oldest to youngest- "God Blesses the Bearer of Christ", "The Godlike Warrior", "Purity of God's Word", and "Victory of the Legendary Warrior". The last has convinced me that the theme naming of the first three was accidental, but DAMN...

This troper's surname is Goerling, pronouncing Girl-ing, and my best friend's surname is Boyer. Completely coincidental, of course, but oddly enough, her pursuits are more traditionally masculine compared to mine (computer programming as opposed to writing), and she's also more comfortable with "icky" stuff, like picking up bugs. And for double the irony, her boobs are bigger than mine!

My younger sister has decided to have three daughters and name them: Ringo, Ichigo and Lemon.

This troper is an only child with the birth name Angelica, but his mother joked that if she had more kids she could have continued naming them after Puccini operas. Destroyed by the fact that this troper is ftm & plans to soon change his name.

This troper encountered a parent who had a bit of a thing for plants. Her kids names were Ivyrose (God help you if you call her by the whole thing), Lily, and Aspen.

This troper has a unique (and most likely coincidental) example with her father and his brother. Their names are Thomas and Wayne, both of which are also the names of bus manufacturing companies.

A long time ago, I had pianoclasses together with a girl named Amadeus - her sisters were called Amadea and Amadeo. I don't think the parents had a lot of imagination.

This troper's cousin is a bit... odd when it comes to the names of her two daighters, this troper's goddaughters. The first girl is named Malena Manja - the second one... Manja Malena (since this troper's name is Manja). not only considers she it cute and appropirate (since they are my goddaudgters my name SHOULD be included... yeah...) she also is either very unaware of the UnfortunateImplications coming with combining variations of "Maria" and "Magdalena" - or she doesn't care.

She explained she DOES care. Since children never do what their parents expect them to she invoked the expectiations of her daughters one day getting into THAT profession. Following her logic the girls will never do so. This troper is still not impressed.

This troper is writing a story in which everyone but the main characters have theme names. A whole family chooses what theme to name the next generation, the current one is cities around the world, the last was gemstones etc. Another family who, fittingly, owns a casino is all named after gambling and card games. And one woman has a harem of guys named after expensive cars.
