TheMessiah

AuraTwilight's Paimon character is designed to be one of the most triumphant examples of this trope to the point of turning its Mary Sue aspects on its head. He was an artificial creation of an eldritch abomination intended to embody "everything worth saving" from its perspective and then to corrupt that, using sympathetic magic to end all of reality. The plan backfired miserably, because Paimon is Incorruptible Pure Pureness. This was demonstrated early on when in a typical quest to get an enchanted sword to defeat a villain (which could only be lifted by one of pure and kind heart), the sword lifted out of the alter, zipped out through the air, and collided its blunt end with Paimon's head before he could even get within the dungeon. After a few years of character development, he has become akin to a deity, with the titles of the Sorcerer of Smiles, Alchemist of Amour, and the King of Kindness. The setting runs on Narrative Causality, and the divine beings are personifications of tropes. Paimon is the embodiment of happy endings, and aims as high as possible, taking what he can get but ultimately only satisfied with solutions where no one is sacrificed or left to suffer; not even the villain (who is redeemed). Paimon's real magic is that he never gives up on anyone, always finds the good in them, and never fails. He loves things, and they become worthy of his love. Given that he was originally an artificial intelligence based off of dating sim cliches, he makes a perfect Buddha counterpart. His flaws are significant though; he takes Love You and Everybody to such an extent that he routinely cheats on his lover to sleep with other people (including his step-brother), he has poor English skills and speaks in broken Japanese/English mix, he's mentally handicapped due to being a recently created child mind in an adult body, and he goes too easy on people; though things are generally alright in the end, there has been unnecessary suffering because he always hestitates to do what must be done; He won't destroy the Eater of Reality Mindless Void-Beast because he wants to save it, too. He's been used to explore the realistic applications of his characteristics; he seeks out and befriends people who need him most and accepts them as they are, so he tends to be surrounded by evil necromancers, criminal thugs, unrepentant demons and the like.

This Troper has a character who goes by the name of X,who is very much a Messiah character despite me not trying to make her one.She joins an organization to fight against the demons in an apocalyptic era, specifically because she wants to protect people. However, along the way she finds out that some of the demonic creatures were mutated humans, and so she fights them, and even manages to befriend them. She seems distant at times, but she is extremely warm hearted. When she finds out that some of the mutated humans came from the organization that she worked in,and when she chooses to save a very important friend to her,who was kidnapped by her brother, she chooses to leave the organization, not just because she's her friend, but because her friend is also very important to others. When she finds out why her brother was doing the horrific things he was, during their final battle, she even manages to change his heart, and his mind with some endearing words and a hug after defeating him.She barely killed anyone, except for a Sadistic Scientist, and even then she felt bad about it.She also goes out of her way to help complete strangers, and tends to wear herself out from how hard she tries. She also follows HonorBeforeReason alot.

In the novel I'm writing, 0-42 the Nu-Golem's character is formed around the idea that he was designed to be this for other Golems - except that he doesn't know that, ''and neither does anyone else.''

The protagonist of This Troper's story is intended to be a {{Deconstruction}} of TheMessiah. He's a naive and idealistic young man who is friendly to everyone, dislikes violence and wants to help everybody he can. He believes he can overcome his opponents through peaceful methods and that everybody is actually a good person when you get to know them, so he also wants to redeem bad guys and make them see how great it is to be good. This leads to SamaritanSyndrome as he desperately tries to make things better for people, culminating in a HeroicBSOD when he realises he can't help everybody and that, despite his best efforts, there are still cruel and apathetic people who have no interest in doing good or being helped. His role as TheChosenOne is also taken apart, as he realises that he has no choice but to obey TheCall, even if doing so would go against his morals and lead to him doing something he would regret. With his idealism being shown up as just a naive daydream, he starts to question his own ethical standards and whether he's really cut out to be a hero after all. Reconstructed again when he eventually comes to terms with the fact that, even though there will always be evil and that you can't please, help or save everybody, no matter how hard you try, all that you can do is give it your best shot and never lose sight of why you want to do good in the first place. He comes to the conclusion that assuming everybody is genuinely good is naive and unproductive and that trying to do help everybody is not only wearing him out, but also essentially inadvertently self-centered, as losing faith in himself just because he doesn't think he's good enough is just him feeling too sorry for himself and it won't help anybody - he has to be a hero because the people need a hero, not just because he wants to be, and that if he doesn't think he's good enough, then he can at least keep doing the best he can for the sake of everyone else. Once he accepts that people can take care of themselves without needing to rely on him, that not everybody is really a good person, that force and physical action are necessary when called for and that the important thing is that he's still trying to do his best for the good of everyone, he becomes a lot stronger and a more capable hero.
