RuleofFunny
#109880
This troper was once in a game of DungeonsAndDragons in which one player-who was playing as a druid with the ability to shapeshift-was given the ability to transform into a flying shark "for the sheer hilarity of it".

I'm sorry doesn't that belong in the RuleOfCool?
#109882
Only if you don't laugh.
#109883
This is pretty much what This Troper uses when she writes her fanfics, which are mainly comedies.

Let's just say This Troper says a lot of random ass things for laughs, and it works. I also poke people.

On the subject of RuleOfFunny during a D&D match....This Troper was playing a home-brewed version of 3.5 and one of her friends that was running the game got his gf to come along and create a character for the game...she's naturally really timid in her actions during the game because she has never done anything like this before. WELL....quickly everyone in the game (that meant, me, the gm (who had a character in the game), the GM's gf and 2 other friends) found out that she was UNGODLY with rolling 20s at the most awesome (TakeItAsYouWill) of times durign the game. Oh this troper forgot to mention that the GM's gf is/was an animal science major and therefore any wild animal that we came across in the game (This included dangerious lizard/lion/furry/thigns monster hiding in some acient ruins that you are supposed to RUNAWAY FROM...but no....), she would try and tame it using "Handle Animal".....which ALWAYS got a 20 roll on it....what animal doesnt like what is going on? "I'd like to roll handle animal on it *20*", Hey...something else has disturbed it...."Roll handle animal *1*".....it's going bezerk, what are you going to do? "Handle animal *20*"....*everyone in the room in dumbfounded*"The animal is perfectly alright and you in fact now have a empathic bond with the animal now....*GM shaking his head the entire time*"....

Though one that fits more under this rule....Some other friends of above troper set up a game of D&D 4.0 and they decided to randomly roll the stats for the big baddy at the end of an arena match (This troper got within 2 turns of defeating it before bad rolls knocked him out)....well once they roll a character, they stick to it...too bad it practically has damn near max stats all over the place (I think it had above 15 in like EVERY catagory)...whiel fighting one of the other party members in the arena (1v1 matches of course)....it decided to get creative and finish off it's opponent with a PELVIC THRUST OF DEATH! (Accompanied with the necessary "BAAAAWWWWWWW")....needless to say that the party member was obliterated and the whole room was cracking up for at least 5-10 mins...

This is the one reason behind most of what this troper does.
#109888
This is the one and only reason this troper is putting omake chapters in the novel he's writing. In the first one, for instance, we find out that the LadyOfWar is a perfectly good cook, but makes all her food so spicy that the main character, Todd, can't stand to eat it. The PluckyComicRelief CoolOldGuy mentor asked for seconds when Todd got back from dunking his head in the nearby stream (after just one bite).

My best friend acts like a ditz, but once you get to know her better you learn that some of it is because of this. (Not all of it, mind...) #QUOTE#'''Friend's father''': Are you hungry? #QUOTE#'''Friend''': I forget.

This troper once deliberately wore three pairs of progressively larger sunglasses over each other purely to be able to perform the dramatic sunglasses whip-off twice in succession and ''still be wearing sunglasses''. Couldn't see a damn thing with all of them on, but it got a certain lady to laugh, so it was well worth it.

I think it's safe to say that many of the more casual IRC channels operate on this, especially late at night.
#109892
This is the entire reason that this troper does anything. Things like eating Play-doh when someone offers it as cookie dough and having a second helping after the reveal, walking down the aisles of Walmart while loudly proclaiming that one rack with a men's suit and a bra over it is the transvestite clothes rack, a bad habit of spouting random nonsense for the laugh factor (mainly for her sister's sake), and generally playing up the part of an insane ditz.

This is how I play SuperSmashBros. While the overall effect on my win/loss record is negative, the damage caused by my ContractualGenreBlindness and hare-brained schemes is at least partially mitigated by the resulting unpredictability... hell, against certain player types, it's an advantage if toned down properly.

I do this, too. Except I'm GenreSavvy and I tend to win every match I play... but the result is still hilarious, especially when you tend to only use explosive items...

This troper, who loves to make people laugh, lives by the RuleOfFunny and has a unique sense of humor that never fails. My strategies vary, the most common being: being a LargeHam who sometimes parodies my MemeticBadass reputation, being an {{Unfunny}} DeadpanSnarker, or just playing dumb
#109896
This sounds a lot like me =O
#109897
This is one of the only reasons why I bother with Towns when I'm bored.
#109898
Everything I say comes back to this trope. #QUOTE#'''Me''': You would 'ship those two faster than a... what's something incredibly fast? #QUOTE#'''Friend''': A peregrine falcon! #QUOTE#'''Me''': No! It has to be something ''funny''. A peregrine falcon isn't funny. #QUOTE#'''Friend''': Oh. Sorry. #QUOTE#'''Me''': ...A greased dachshund on a hockey rink! Now ''that's'' funny.

Not to the dachsund.
