ProperlyParanoid

Saves Us}} This troper is
extremely paranoid. Well maybe
not paranoid, but certainly
cautiously vigilant When I enter a room, I check behind all the doors and in the closets, then I look out the window to make sure I'm not being followed. I check the
backseat of my car three times each time I drive and keep tabs on the car behind me. I assume I'm being followed if the same car has been behind me for more than three turns. I sleep with a
knife in my hand. I have a plan to fight every person I meet, just in case they attack me, and
I work out constantly to stay strong enough to survive, even in the
worst of circumstances. However, I am training to be a cop, have had a gun pulled on me, and have almost been mugged twice. So the defensive behavior is
partially justified.
#105475
I thought I was the only one that worked fight plans out, If I talk to anyone I work out a way to get them pinned if they attack, I also have a copper pipe under my bed that's just in reach if someone breaks in. The last part is justifed as the room I sleep in has a massive window anyone could get though and someone nearly did a few years ago.
#105476
I see you and raise you with sleeping besides a baseball bat, checking the room for possible access points in case of a zombie attack, which way to escape, pondering if he could survive and still run a fall, or slip, from the first and second floor, pondering who he would sacrifice in case of the zombies, who'd be worth dying for, pondering which room would be best for defense and as a HQ.

This troper was once in a relationship that, by virtually all means, was absolutely fantastic. Everything I could ask for in every single way. Except...these tiny, niggling little details. This girl's stories...just didn't seem to match up sometimes. It always truly tiny things, background details at best. Instantly justifiable. More than easily ignorable. And yet...it always bugged me, somewhere in the back of my head. As you may have guessed by now, it turned out she was cheating on me.
#105478
This troper is twitchy, dislikes being touched, doesn't trust authority, and plays up her tsun-tsun side to make people GO AWAY. She... did not have good experiances in middle school, and the principal ignored it until she snapped a bit. No, her attackers didn't get punished; they were popular, how could they be bad? Amazing what mental attacks can do to someone who already had social issues.
#105479
There's a reason Dude}} I always sit with my back to a corner anywhere and I don't talk with people...
#105480
This troper isn't particularly paranoid...unless he happens to enter a bathroom, in which case he immediately has to throw open the shower curtain and make sure there are no ninja assassins hiding there. You know, just in case.
#105481
You too? When this Troper uses the bathroom in the middle of the night he always does that. Didn't help when my cat was in it ruffling the curtain for fun. Really damn creepy...
#105482
This troper's father's favourite game is the Paranoia Game. Whether it's staring at the victim with a creepy smile on his face for lengthy periods of time, surprise tickle attacks, or even just promises of future pesterings, he's worked very hard to make his kids rightfully paranoid of him (even if it's all in great fun).
#105483
Del Grapes}} This troper is greatly afraid of being more absentminded than she already is. That combined with having had an abusive childhood and a set of siblings and cousins that, while they love her, do often take advantage of her, and having a tendency to always assume the worst for fear of getting hurt... makes paranoia one of her key traits.
#105484
King 194}} This troper is very, very, VERY protective of his computer, he regularly has Stopscript enabled, avoids downloading torrents from websites, and generally stays locked down. He has not gotten a virus on his computer for 5 years, but nearly got one if he hadn't had Stopscript enabled. He does freak the Hell out if there is even a sign of a hacking. IN that case, it's slash and burn. Change of password, clearing of history, stuff like that.
#105485
This troper has a sense of paranoia of {{Moe}} becoming influenced by {{Yuri}}, and he is right...
#105486
This troper carries a katana, bokken or other weapon on him at all times. Various people tend to visit this house, frequently at very odd hours and rarely upon invitation. Many of them are involved with drugs, although only peripherally, and things could go wrong, let's just leave it at that. Couple that with a childhood of being bullied, and you get someone prepared for attack at any time.
#105487
One of this (female) troper's ex-roomates kept an unsheathed katana in his room right above his bed. We used to lovingly poke fun at him for it and all the times that he came out of his room with it raised over his head at the slightest noise (pets, wind, etc). We stopped making fun of him, however, after the night when there actually ''was'' an intruder in our home and that katana ended up saving all of our lives.

This troper works in the city of Montego Bay, in his home parish of St. James in Jamaica. The city has something of a reputation for crimes taking place when you'd least expect it (one of the troper's coworkers had his wife attacked and robbed on a certain street recently while she was out minding her own business, and then sometime more recently the troper's girlfriend was robbed of her cell-phone in a bus park in town while going home one night). Because of this, the troper doesn't stick around downtown longer than he has to, and always waits for public transportation with people he knows are going his way, in places where plenty of witnesses can see what's going on. And when the troper walks along the street, he does his best to watch all sides of himself, doesn't make it obvious that he's carrying a wallet or a cell-phone, and walks quickly to get to his destination.
#105489
This troper is extremely paranoid about passwords, after having an e-mail account stolen after using a virus-infected PC in an Internet café:
#105490
He never types any password in a computer that he doesn't trust;
#105491
He always uses HTTPS if using any open wireless connection (protip: install
HTTPS Everywhere if you use Firefox);
#105492
If he eventually needs to type a password in an untrusted machine, he will change it as soon as possible.
#105493
A professor at this Tropers University is very, very paranoid. He always photographs and locks his office when he leaves, and when he gets back he checks if anyone broke in and switched the items on his desk around. He also refuses to walk too far away from buildings because the aliens could abduct him...
#105494
This troper fits. I always watch my back whenever out. I always carry a knife with me, if I get suspicious about the people around me I have my hand around the knife to easily and quickly flip it out. (One situation very much called for this: Strangers slowly creeping up on the car, luckily, they just thought I was someone they knew and left.) I plan to get the best ballistics vest (Erroneously called "Bulletproof vests", even though they can be punctured with right ammo or enough shots)I can afford, and train with several firearms at the shooting range. (and even buy several different kinds.) I know it's a bad idea to have a weapon out and displayed to threaten an attacker, if I pull a gun out on someone I'm going to shoot immediately. I also look at the best ways to bring down a person fast (strike at the throat, kick to the groin, hit the solar plexus, kick the knee where the femur begins, etc.) in case I'm either caught without a weapon or disarmed.
#105495
This troper almost never played American football, due to a very strong fear of
a football hitting him in his glasses. He eventually worked up the courage to play, and before long was hit in the glasses by a football. Due to it being at an agle, it luckily only sent his glasses flying, though not before they managed to inflict a few wounds. He always goes as far away from the action as possible, due to that.
#105496
I never go downstairs between 10pm and 6:45am without a rifle, I also carry a baton around with me at all times.
#105497
This troper's family is genetically paranoid. Grandparents used to tell stories about kidnappers in black cars and bad people around wrong hours. Mother took this from them and then gave it to my brother. They seem to believe someone all the time wants to rob our house, look what we have inside or simply listen what we say in the corridor. They are also CrazyPrepared, which saved my ass a few times and was right once or twice, but still.
#105498
Let me give you some free advice, DON'T SNEAK UP OR ATTEMPT TO SURPRISE AN ARMORED CAR GUARD! It's not going to end well for anyone involved, these people (myself included) spend all day carrying money around with the expectation that someone is going to try to kill them for it, and there have been attempts made. Don't just take my word for it,
here's a google search. Do us all a favor and give them a break, ok? All those trips to the shooting range aren't just for show, they're a survival mechanism.
#105499
ThisTroper is paranoid about telling adults inner secrets and feelings, even when they promise not to tell your parents or anyone else about it. I was right in middle school, my mom promised not to tell anyone about the girls at school bullying me, but she told the counselor anyway. That's why I don't tell my problems to ANY adult or authority figure. They're always gonna tell someone else...
#105500
Well its good to see that
I'm not the only one...
#105501
Wait, am I just paranoid, or am I just stoned?
#105502
This troper was nearly sent to training school for a misunderstanding. He graduated highschool as a homeschooler.

this troper typically isn't overly paranoid, but for a while was VERY paranoid, to the point she would pressure her dad to lock the door after he left for work hours before anyone else got up and avoided going anywhere other than to work or one specific bookstore where she was friends with all the staff alone. what brought the paranoia on was a bad breakup with a friend and her former Marine boyfriend, and it turned out to be completely justified despite the fact everyone was telling her they were too flaky to do anything serious. this troper narrowly avoided a convention where they planned to corner her and "fuck with her" (to paraphrase what both told people they didn't realize were friends of this troper), mess with her car, and had them take advantage of the fact her dad didn't lock the door when he left for work to mess up her computer. it was also leaked out later that her ex-friend's boyfriend had been discharged from the Marines for psychological reasons and had an extensive collection of bladed weapons. the two got married, then went thru a messy divorce and pretty much stopped focusing on harassing this troper, but even now, especially after finding out one of them had been facebook stalking her when they contacted her hours after she mentioned her mom had passed away trying to get friendly with her again, she's far more paranoid than she use to be and sleeps with a wakizashi in reach of her bed.
