PatrioticFervor

At times, this troper consciously inverts this trope, other times, he tries to embrace it. Most of the time it's the former, due to his Asperger Syndrome and fixating on foreign cultures mixing with his ill-treatment at the hands of other Aussie students in the past. However, it's mostly an Australia-specific MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch, but he has revenge fantasies about being TheQuisling. In a further backsliding toward the powers of Un-Australianness, he has been listening to J-Pop, when it is ANZAC Day...

This troper often bombastically proclaims difficult tasks to be "for the Motherland!" Of course, said difficult things are usually lifting heavy objects or putting together appliances. Her dad tells her to stop acting anti-American in his own embodiment of the trope.

This trope applies to me so much that the Constitution is like a second Bible to me. Though my foil has been sharpened by constant America-hating peers, it gets depressing sometimes, but it never changes me. Please note I am NOT type 2 Eagleland, I'm not perfect but I respect other peoples and their cultures.

Talking about really misplaced and messed up nationalism...This troper holds a similar vision about the US Constitution (what I call the "most perfect political document in the history") but the thing is...I'm Mexican...
#101132
Hey! Your Constitution was modeled after ours. Besides America is an ideal, not a race or birthplace. I'm starting to love immigrants (like or possibly like yourself) more than native-born because they appreciate the genius of the Founding Fathers.
#101133
YourMilageMayVary on the extent of that so-called "genius".

I love America. I love every single thing about it, even the flaws. I love its ideals, I love its reality, I love its past, I love it's present, and I expect I'll love its future. I love all its contradictions, between the ideals of free self-determination and ManifestDestiny, between "liberty for all" and the draft, between the adoration of Capitalism and the welfare state, between "in God we trust" and the seperation of church and state, between the Monroe Doctrine and banana republics. I love it even though it makes no goddamn sense. I love it ''because'' it makes no goddamn sense. I love it at its best and at its worst, simply because it's America, and there's nowhere else like it.

Are you the American version of The Major or something?
#101136
Despite being a Brit with a rather cynical view of much of the Western world, this troper found himself a little moved while reading this. You uppity colonials sure know how to put a country together. :)
#101137
Despite being a rather Anti-American troper who's always been more proud of his Australian heritage, I was also pretty moved. If you ever become some kind of military officer, you're the guy who's going to inspire our soldiers to kick ass when it counts.
#101138
I found it more depressing than anything. That's how you're supposed to feel about a loved one, not a country.
#101139
I agree with the above troper. I mean there's being patriotic and there's being fanatic.
#101140
I agree with those two. I'm deeply disturbed by the OP and feeling slightly more homicidal than normal. Note: I'm in America, born and raised here. I loathe this country.
#101141
If you can listen to this without feeling the need to pump your fist triumphantly, you are likely immune to attempts at provoking patriotism. Use this gift wisely.
#101142
Or listen to this without headbanging.
#101143
Listen to both at the same time if your a true American you'll rock out
#101144
You know that there are a lot of foreigners here right? "For America" doesn't exactly inspire me...
#101145
You seem to be assuming that the Patriotically Fervent count foreigners as people.

After word broke out that OsamaBinLaden had been killed, This Troper witnessed industrial-grade PatrioticFervor that he didn't know the people at his college possessed (while he himself was pleasantly surprised, he didn't take it to extremes... because he was trying to go to sleep.) Not only was there nonstop chanting and vuvuzela blowing, but there was ''fireworks''-- which was especially odd because not only did the celebrants only hear of the news a few minutes before, but fireworks are illegal in my state. I would have joined in, but, as previously stated, it was late at night and I needed to get my sleep.
#101147
I'm sorry, but I don't think that celebrating is the right thing to do. While I think it serves Bin Laden right and am glad that the Americans finally took care of him it just doesn't seem right to me to go on the streets and celebrate.
