BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor

I work at a Netflix hub inspecting the [=DVDs=]. After the 4th of July we had a metric fuckton of returns, meaning many people sat inside and watched [=DVDs=] instead of enjoying the summer weather or something. As I was doing my job I began mentally bitching about how people should be enjoying the nice weather instead of watching movies. The next Monday (the day of me writing this) I looked at my work schedule to see my hours and... well, let's just say the first sentence should be past tense. They laid me off because (wait for it...) ''people are renting less [=DVDs=] and enjoying the nice weather''. On my way home I wondered if there was a Troper Tales for BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor (there wasn't, so I created one).

Ouch. I'm sorry.

Luckily, I've been told I'll be called back when business picks up in late August or early September (as in within the next few weeks).

This editor got sick and tired of her high school's tardy rule, and wished she didn't have to worry about it. Her scoliosis got worse in senior year, requiring her to wear a back brace most of the day... and got her a medical exemption from the rule!

Ouch, not only that, but if high school is anything like this troper remembers, they made fun of you for the back brace. Hope it's better now at least...

This troper was recovering from suicidal depression and wished for something to take her mind off it, and was promptly involved in a minor road accident (nobody was hurt, but it was quite a shock). It worked, though - nothing like a brush with death to erase a wish to die.

This troper wanted to take about a week off from work, needing a break from the place (and she wanted more time to sit around playing Dragon Age). Her back promptly went out.

This troper's husband jokes that their marriage is an example of this trope. (At the time we met, he was single, and he thought I was too pretty to ever go out with him.) He's kidding. I hope.

This troper used to be homeschooled for one year. After loathing it for most of the year, I accepted it the next as the best way to go. A month in, I'm switched to a local school that was far worse.

This Troper has a pair of cousins that I thought were completely awesome. I once wished that they lived with me and my mother, so I could see them more often. Their father ended up losing his house and him, along with his two children, came to live with his sister, who is my mother. You could probably guess that it was the worst 1 and a half years of my life. Mostly because This Troper is an only child, and was not used to having to share everything.

This troper's first-time experience was in hindsight likely this - he had a thing for older women and she turned out to be 30 going on 31 (he was 21). Very poor decision indeed, she turned out to be a ManipulativeBitch to the nth degree.

This troper witnessed a very sad example. Two of his friends - one male, one female - were talking, and at one point the girl said sadly that she feels unloved and wishes for someone to just hold her tight and never leave her, and so on... Guess what came out. This was the very moment that the guy fell in mad love with her (he had a thing for the sad ones), but... she rejected him, despite his numerous signs of affection and just started ignoring him, leaving the room whenever he entered, never explained what was wrong with him wanting her, and then finally angrily berated him when he wanted to talk to her about it. This ruined the man's life, I tell you, almost made him commit suicide and led to numerous other issues. Fortunately, things are getting better now, but the two are still not talking unless they have to. Really, having to watch two of my best friends grow distant from each other because of a stupid wish was part of what made ME a KnightInSourArmor. Life sucks.

I wish I had a challenge in Dungeons and Dragons oh look munchkins.

When I was a kid, I hated homework and being forced to do it before play time always made me mad. After a rough day of school I was gonna sit down to enjoy Nintendo, but my dad threatened to ground me if I didn't get right to those math problems. I remember saying under my breath "Retribution}} Yeah, well I hope something bad happens to you." The very next day, I come home from school to find out that he ended up in the hospital with bronchitis, and he wasn't even a smoker. He got better, but mom's old speeches about words having power meant alot more from that point...

This troper once actually said "Wouldn't it be awesome if a show just suddenly had an out-of-nowhere ZombieApocalypse?" Then he saw {{Dollhouse}}'s "Epitaph One", and he was regretting his earlier wish. To make things even more ironic, he seems to be one of the only people who watched the show and ''didn't'' like the episode, as it was apparently very well received. Sure, you can go back to {{Be Careful What You Wish For}}, but let me warn you: It's not all it's cracked up to be.
