At the risk of coming across as a StrawFeminist, I hate this trope when it's used in kid-leveled cartoons and teen shows. Not all little kids have flat stomachs. Not all teenagers have flat stomachs. I don't mind slim actresses and cartoon characters, but unless they're wearing a two-piece swimsuit, they don't need to run around in clothes that empathise their HollywoodThin stomach. Shows aimed at adults with adult women wearing this fashion probably don't help the rising of body image disorders, but most adults do have the ability to think critically about what they're seeing, whether they choose to or not.

This troper being fat-positive show up her midriff from time to time during summer, and remember seeing non-thin characters doing it too on Disney TV series. BTW, you mostly come across as using ageist arguments, insulting the majority of an age-group using stereotypes once used against women, when you don't need ageism to unveil the body image point (the trope playing a part in the rising of body image disorders in some persons, be them adults or younger people.)

This troper loves this trope so much that it's basically a fixation. Any partially or fully exposed midriff instantly gets my attention. Any girl that I date is usually persuaded into doing this for me at least occasionally in the summer time.
