Journal
In the middle of the year, I accidentally wrote my best song ever and then hid it away as a bonus track on Signal from the Sky. Now that it's been four months, I'd like to release it more widely (and to show it to Moa as some sort of weird uninvited tribute), and it's become the first full song that I'm putting through Reaper - tempo changes, sound effects and all. I am yet to decide whether I sing it or not, especially as the lyrics are sort of ridiculous by design. http://soundcloud.com/davidxn/the-crimson-angel-of-judecca This isn't quite finished and I'm still adjusting things piece by piece, not least because the volumes of some parts seem significantly different in the rendered file compared to how they sound when editing it. The glockenspiel at the start is too quiet here, for example, and will probably make people jump out of their seats once they're a couple of bars in. Conversely the toms are overwhelmingly loud. I've ported over the synthesized trumpet and the stand-in voice, and the new lead guitar sounds reasonably pleasant, but isn't exactly an improvement on my old sample-based one in realism... It's hard coming off twelve-year obsolete software into a new world - I already love how a lot of this is sounding, but it's always difficult to take a step off a comfortable pillar and build up again to another one, even when you can see it could potentially be higher. 2012-10-09 23:34:00 19 comments |
