{{Kuroshitsuji}}. This Troper got into it before her friends, and it's rapidly becoming an anime club favorite. (Besides Hetalia, Bleach, Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Yu-Gi-Oh)

XKCD linked me to TV Tropes. Yes, the comic that provides the page image for TVTropesWillRuinYourLife. However, I don't think I'm addicted. OR AM I?

''MagicTheGathering'', apparently. Went from one person in the 30-person grade playing it to close to 1/2 the grade. All verbal communication replaced with game slang. Thankfully, it stopped after a year. In a similar vein, ''YuGiOhTheAbridgedSeries''. Same year, same percentage, same communication replacement, same results. In America!

This troper's story Evershadow Genesis has the Carenhad Plague, which "first it corrupts the body, necessitating through bizarre mutation the consumption of human flesh. Then, the body is all but incapacitated by unceasing vomiting, boils on the flesh, and joints locking together as if in the stiffness of death. The near-immobility fades as more severe effects become evident. Next, the mind deteriorates slowly into insanity, while the body strengthens. This strengthening should not be mistaken for a sign of renewed health. The infectee slowly gains a horrendous hunger for blood and all manners of things to be consumed. Tentacles then break through the shoulders. Thus, a Carenhad Legionnaire is born."

This troper and a few online pals created a short story (forum game, same difference) about a virus that caused a rapid boost to an individuals metabolism, causing a high risk of both improvement and deterioration to the host's physical structure and mental stability based on situational factors regarding the slim difference between life and death. In other words, it will either make you weak and insane, or gain incredible powers when you're about to die. To list a few; falling from a building makes you grow some nifty wings, being burned alive makes you gain {{Healing Factor}}, and being bullied splits your personality in half to the point where your 'evil' self takes its own physical body. These people were hunted because about twenty people died or went insane from it.
