Turns out that with certain employers, you're better off doing subpar work and filing the paperwork for it than actually taking the time to do things right. I learned this the hard way after trying to fix something properly until the deadline was well gone, then being told that it had been "good enough" when I ''started'' working. None of this stops me from putting my nose to the grindstone and doing things right before I claim they're done. That's all I'll say on the subject, because I could have to see the boss if I get any more specific.

Non-work example: this troper (still in school) is able but rebellious and, if she doesn't like something, she'll protest against it or refuse to do it altogether. This has worked quite well sometimes, but when the things you're protesting against are actual [=GCSEs=]...it tends not to work so well. She may end up failing English and short course RS because of this.

This troper once found herself in the amusing position of being absolutely loathed by a boss who still didn't dare to fire her. His dislike stemmed from the fact that she insisted on informing her fellow employees of their rights under the Labour Act, loudly demanding more training time for new hires, throwing out food that was past its expiry date, and tinkering with recipes and presentation to make the product better (all of which interfered, in the short run at least, with the boss's efforts to run the business as cheaply as possible.) However, getting rid of her would have meant cutting the number of staff who had any inkling of what the hell they were doing around there in half. The business failed shortly after she left, though not actually due to her leaving.

This troper is of this type in the Skulltag community, which is for some reason has been populated mostly by furries in recent years. He has been flamed simply for NOT liking furries.
