RapidFireTyping

This troper does this all the time when she types. I'm so fast that I sometimes make errors in my spelling. XDD
#107252
You're not the only one. Gets even more annoying when you make the same mistake more than twice constantly because you're typing too fast to be able to correct yourself properly.
#107253
Reiko-chan here again, and yes, that ''is'' a pain. And some of the sites I go on don't even have an edit feature!
#107254
This troper can type really fast when she knows what she is going to say beforehand, and sometimes the computer screen can't keep up. However, she also frequently makes spelling mistakes and has to go back and correct them. Sometimes her brain also works faster than her fingers, and she winds up having to go back and retype entire sections. Her father has actually commented on how fast she can type.

When this troper first looked at this page, this troper thought "Yea, I mean really! You have to use the mouse, at least a little!"... Then he switched to Linux. A few months after he did so(now), he realized that he does this an awful lot, especially when moving/copying files or other mundane tasks via a Console(doubly so when administering a remote server via laggy ssh). Though, he does use a large number of spaces, which is one difference. As for not looking at the display, a number of times this troper has blindly logged in to a console he cannot see due to driver issues, and restarted KDM, the computer or even deleted a file. All without any feedback what-so-ever.
#107256
This troper uses mostly keyboard shortcuts (he finds that having to use a mouse disrupts his workflow). Also, if/when my system reaches high loads, I just have the reaction to CTRL-ALT-F2 (which, on Linux, takes you out of the GUI and into a console), logging in blindly and typing 'killall OFFENDING_PROGRAM' many times (usually it's VirtualBox or VMware with a virtual machine that ran amok).
#107257
I sharpened my skills using MS-DOS on a 286 laptop with about 2M RAM... I ''hate'' software that requires mouse usage, e.g., no keyboard shortcuts are provided for important functions.
#107258
This troper does that to the point where an aversion is forced when a given computer's memory allocation causes a delay in the text arriving on-screen in some or all browsers. It does involve more backspacing than "hunt-and-peck", but never more than one or two characters at a time (at least, when the visual text formation can keep up). A psychology class that allowed the use of laptops instead of notebooks pretty much enforced this with the sheer amount of information that had to be transferred from overhead display to keyboard.
#107259
This troper does this most of the time when he types.
#107260
This troper loves the sound of keyboard keys clicking and tends to type faster when the keys actually click. People have actually told her that she types really fast...
#107261
This troper also loves the sound of keyboard keys clicking. Although he is perfectly capable of typing quietly, sometimes he will press the keys with quicker, harder presses just to get the 'click-click' sound.
#107262
This troper has annoyed family and fellow students (when using their laptop in class) as it sounds like a rainstorm. With some keyboards it even sounds like machine gun fire.
#107263
My mum always complains when I'm typing, because apparently it's loud and annoying. So she says,
"Typetypetypetypetypetypetype..." Also, when I'm talking about working on Computer Science projects, I tend to mime this, even though this is rarely what I actually do in Computer Science.
#107264
Re 'having to go back and correct spelling errors', it's actually often faster for me to shift-<-- and entirely retype the word than it is to stop, decide how many backspaces is necessary, then retype from the amputation. On my home keyboard (A 20 year old IBM model M clicky keyboard) the spacebar is very noticable, but on the squishy keyboard I'm using now, the spacebar is not that much different than a normal key. I tend to hit the other keys harder because I learned to type on a manual typewriter that badly needed cleaning some 30 years ago, but the spacebar doesn't need as much and gets hit with the side of my left thumb.

This troper took typing classes in the sixth grade. A total waste of time, I've known how to use them for well over 7 years at that point. So, instead of bumming it out, I took the class. I hit around 140WPM/97%Acc by the end. As for texting, my phone can't keep up and skips letters.
#107266
I type really fast but often get letters mixed up, miss letters out and hit the wrong keys.
#107267
This troper's mother is the embodiment of this trope. She types incredibly fast, but with only about 65% accuracy. i always have to ask her what she is trying to say in her messages when she texts or e-mails me.
#107268
This troper types with two fingers. Despite this, her typing can be incredibly fast when she wants it to be. I occasionally have to stop and let my mind catch up with my typing.
#107269
This troper types inhumanly fast, and manages to spell things correctly most of the time. It's actually a pretty valuable skill, because I "type with purpose" and can look like I'm doing important stuff at work when really, I'm just editing on TVTropes.
#107270
I took a computer class back in seventh grade that used programs which would count the number of words we typed per minute. Each lesson was capped by a minigame which would adjust its difficulty based on our words-per-minute speed. There was a lesson where the minigame was
Typing of the Dead-style asteroid defense. The lesson in question calculated my speed to be 150 words per minute. The asteroids were on screen for about a
fifth of a second, tops. I started typing with just my left hand to handicap myself after that.
#107271
I taught myself how to type at insane speeds when I was seven. Seven, I tell you. At first, I made a lot of mistakes and kept having to go back and edit what I had just typed, but now I've gotten better about it because I've been editing TvTropes so much. Then again, I probably taught myself incorrectly, because although I use both hands to type and I don't do hunt-and-peck ever, my hands jump all over the keyboard and don't stay in the home row.
#107272
I type very fast, but I oiften make mistakes as I type faster than my brain can think
#107273
I type pretty fast when I want to, and backspace is used a lot. Ive gotten good enough where I can type while not looking at the screen, and detect mistakes through some kind of sixth sense, then click backspace and fix it. Although sometimes I get tripped up and have to take a moment to figure out where I was. Also, i arguably type much much better while not looking at the screen. I seriously make about 10 times more mistakes while looking at the screen. It might be because I see all the letters on the screen and get confused. Im gonna stop ranting now.
#107274
This troper's typing speed was reasonably quick at the beginning of high school. This troper then proceeded to get addicted to a MUD; his speed and accuracy increased exponentially. Even without caffeinated intervention, this troper's typing speed runs to the 90s of WPM with complete accuracy--backspacing and correcting errors happens in realtime. The hands just know what to do.
#107275
The same with this troperr. Just without caffee. On the negative side do my hands remember the English words, not the German words, when I am typing. Very annoying. Damned Muscle Memory.
#107276
This troper types accurately at around 90WPM. The main limiting factor is that the keyboard's little plastic stands were broken as a result of poor game design, and so it rests on a set of plastic wedges held together with tape.
#107277
I tried out a website that lets you test your typing speed, http://speedtest.10-fast-fingers.com , and found that I average anywhere from 60 to 80 WPM. I could go faster if I sacrificed accuracy for speed on the test. Thing is, I can't quite put words in order fast enough to keep up with my fingers.
#107278
I took that, it said that I did 130 words per minute...I cant believe that though, although i made less mistakes than usual
#107279
104 wpm with 0 mistakes, typing casually. I keep pausing for a second when I finish a page because the first time it made me type the word twice and I can't seem to get that out of my head.
#107280
It's been over 15 years since I took keyboarding class and in that time, I've adopted terrible typing habits that have severely slowed my typing speed down. Still, I scored an average of 70 wpm on that test. Not bad. Oh, and I normally do extreme touch typing. Like, I'm in a dark office right now and watching the Cooking Channel (yay "Bitchin' Kitchen"!) while typing this. Not even looking at the screen.
#107281
This troper took 3 semesters(one per year) of computer class in Middle school. To start out the class we took 15 minutes to practice typing on a typing program. Usually i'd average at 76 WPM but one lesson had me so irritated that I typed up to 101 WPM. When I was done I was so happy about it, and then I noticed
the room, with 30 other students and the teacher in it, was silent. I found out I had singlehandedly interrupted the entire class.
#107282
This troper never really though he was a very fast typer, although he's quite fast compared to his youngest cousin. She types at barely 5 WPM, yet when I was her age, I was typing at a rate of at least 70 WPM (Of course, I had MS-DOS on an old 486 to train myself on, while she's likely never heard of DOS).
#107283
This is how
this troper types ''normally''. '''And the content is all grammatically correct with proper spelling'''.
