ParentalBonus

This troper was in a high school play (can't remember which one, probably either Bye Bye Birdie or Kiss Me Kate) where one of the lines nobody really got the joke of. The director said "Don't worry, your parents will laugh". Sure enough, they did.

Same thing happened to this troper. I played an old Southern Baptist woman in our production of Dearly Departed, and at one point, told the dead main character that the mortician had him all "painted up like Miss Kitty on Gunsmoke." No one at rehearsal got it, but it was a big laugh when parents and grandparents came to see the show.

The BackyardSports movie I'm making will have jokes that only the TargetAudience's parents could get, such as when TheBeatles-esque band Tony, Achmed, Jorge, and Joey make (T.A.J.J.) appear on Ellen DeGeneres for the first time, and Ellen says "SORRY LADIES, HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND."

Or when the boys have their first concert, Tony says, "Hello there, I'm Tony and this is Jorge and we here to sing TheBeatles and {{chew bubblegum}}. And we all out of gum!"

It's gonna be full of this stuff. They'll be covering the songs by the musicians they parody, and how many kids in their demographic would actually get songs not from their KidzBop {{Beatles}} [=CDs=], like "Help!" or "Day Tripper"?

And like I said, the ''friends and wives'' of the Beatles are parodied, and the boys who parody TheBeatles get the most attention. Angela Delvecchio as Cynthia Lennon, Dmitri Petrovich as EltonJohn, Tony Delvecchio as PaulMcCartney.

On the ToyStory page, the appearance of a Totoro plush toy in a kid's room is listed as a ParentalBonus because MyNeighborTotoro is not one of Miyazaki's most popular films as well as having come out in the late 1980s with the English version coming out later. In my household, this ParentalBonus was subverted by the fact that my dad is an anime freak, especially when it comes to Miyazaki, and has shown this troper and her siblings a lot of the Miyazaki films, meaning that even this troper's seven year old brother got the reference.
