OtakuSurrogate

Somewhat subverted that in this troper's rather short life so far, from what I've seen the ratio of male otaku to female has been maybe... 1:50, estimated.

i would say its about 1:300, but thats just what i think

This female troper feels like a walking stereotype sometimes. I honestly have little interest in shoujo or shonen shows that attract girls. My tastes are varied, but they are just like what most people expect from a male anime nerd, and I even think similarly. Yaoi? Eggh, I'll pass. Loli girls being "close friends" and doing cute stuff together? Yes, please! Doesn't help that I love moe series for what they are and am completely accepting of fan service nor feel insulted by the girlishness of cutesy moe blobs. There's also older series and shows with actual plots when I Don't feel like being shallow...

That sounds like me, except that I like some shonen shows.

This troper has had at least two close female friends since school who are both really into anime, manga and Japanese culture in general and both more into the stuff aimed at men than women (even if one is also a YaoiFangirl). They act as quite an interesting contrast to me, a male who of the Anime and Manga he does entertain himself with mainly reads and watches the more female-aimed examples (Let's just say FruitsBasket and VampireKnight are my two favourite manga series)...something got switched around somewhere XD

This is why most of my friends are boys.

In my school life, I practically live in a PinkBishoujoGhetto. I love anime and manga, though I love stuff that's more DarkerAndEdgier. This is why the seinen demographic draws me in so much, I think. I don't know of very many girls, let alone teenage girls, that love shows like {{Hellsing}}, BlackLagoon, and ElfenLied. I've never liked shoujo, although I used to love shounen series as a kid, regardless of whether they attracted a female audience or not. Also, yaoi? Ew, no. Yuri? Eh, I don't mind it.
