From what I have heard, orphanages (especially inner-city ones) are full of the unpleasant sort of child that joins gangs. There has been more than one account where there were fights over ''food''.

You never went to public school in a major city, did you? It's the same thing, only most of those kids have at least one parent.

Actually, this troper has, and he lives in a fairly large city. It's just they they don't have parents is what separates them from annoying gangbangers in your average underfunded hellhole.

This Troper was in an institution (for foster kids with extra needs). Kids would throw bricks at the window, beat each other with brooms, and there was a time when eight girls ganged up on one. One time a girl started beating on me while I was sleeping, I've been jumped on by three at the same time, had my nose broken, burned people, and beat people with rocks. The staff are more emotionally manipulative and judgmental than anything else.
