Sometimes this happens with new charge EMTs. Ambulance drivers (at least in the state of Maryland) are EMTs who took additional training on how to drive an ambulance and are often more experienced then the guy running the call.

This troper knew a pair of best friends in high school like this. Girl A was pretty, popular and fun to be around; it took a while to catch on to the fact that Girl B, her more serious, less exciting friend was actually a force to be reckoned with (think A running for school president and not having a hope in hell of winning without her campaign manager B, although that particular example never occurred). Not being especially close to either one of them, it's difficult for this troper to say how either of them felt about this set-up and how much manipulation was involved, but she was never aware of any tension between them.

All of this troper's friends consider him so.

This is what I aspire to be.

This troper is more of a hypercompetant antagonist than a side-kick, but once I find a suitable vehicle for my social machinations, rest assured they'll play face for me, whether they know it/want to or not.

One of this troper's high school maths teachers was Ex-PFC Wintergreen with added chalk. He ran the place, and everyone knew it - school folklore said he never slept and lived on Polo mints and coffee. This was partly because he was truly brilliant at his subject (if an advanced problem stumped the student working on it, their teacher and the department head, they'd go to him) and partly because he was in charge of organising things like lesson timetables, which in turn was because he was the only one who knew how the computer systems worked. He now has his own ''Appreciation Society'' on {{Facebook}}.

Much to her annoyance, this happens a lot with this troper when she's working on a group project. I'm one of the few crazy-smart people in my school who aren't BrilliantButLazy when it comes to schoolwork, so I'm always stuck with doing all the real work and making sure that it looks like the other person/people are doing their share when they really aren't and generally doing everything that's expected of a sidekick and more.

This troper volunteers as an Aid at a Girl Scout Day Camp over summer. The adult leaders only need a small amount of training to be allowed to work and any adult leader's daughter attends free. With the amount of poorly trained leaders only working just to not have to pay, the two or three more heavily trained Aids allotted to each unit are normally HyperCompetentSidekicks to the adults.

This troper is part of a (Godforsaken) club at school. Since the teacher really doesn't have a role in the club but provide the room, the students elect who's president, treasurer, secretary, etc. This clubmember however has perfect attendance for the club, conducts all the attendance, cleans up the room after club activities, and does everything you expect Kyon would do. The rest of the clubmembers barely do a thing when they actually do show up.

This troper is in their fifth year of volunteering at the local public library. All volunteers are assigned to the children's section of the library. Already, this should tell you something about my "boss". Through the first four years, the other volunteers and I worked under the same lady, who was ADHD and generally a little absent-minded, but was popular among the volunteers. Due to this, we became a bit of a team of Cloudcuckoolander's Minders and Hyper Competent Sidekicks, all very loyal. This year, a new lady is in charge of the children's section, and all my usual volunteer friends aren't there, leaving me the only person who had done this before. I've had all of these new people come to me for help at least once, INCLUDING my boss.
