My sister has been biking to school without taking a lock with her, arguing that her bicycle won't get stolen because it only happens to new bikes (using mine as an example). So one morning, I decided to take it to scare her. Unfortunately, while hauling it out, the school principal noticed and asked me what I was doing. I said, "Do you know [sister's name]? Anyway, she called me earlier. She's going to get a ride home today instead of biking." (It's true. After I take that bike, she's going to need a ride.)

Couldn't you have found a way to teach her a lesson that DIDN'T involve equivocation on your part?

In Spanish class I was asked where my mother was as a question to determine my Spanish skills. I answered, in Spanish, that she was in Oklahoma. Well, yeah, she's buried there.
