CaptainErsatz

This troper, okay, was a ginormous fangirl of Spandam from ''OnePiece'' a couple of years ago. For those unfamiliar with the character('s personality), he is a government official obsessed with power and believes in "absolute justice" to solve problems which he believes only he can solve, as well as insecure, sadistic, and sexist as hell. After having gotten over her stupid little crush on the character, she then went on to write a horror story about an entire sadist academy where troubled teens are punished in horrific ways in the name of breaking their spirits, ran by a power-and-money-hungry megalomaniac who enjoys punishments bordering on torture and has a tendency to smile in that same highly psychotic way as Spandam, as well as look and dress a little like him. The character's name until further notice? Spandam''us''.

This troper created a Blaster character in City of Heroes, looking like a girl dressed up as Sam Fisher - with a cybernetic arm and makeup resembling Cable. Her not-so-{{Secret Identity}} is ''Samantha Fischer''. Of course, it was played for laughs - as soon as the character reached level 20, the alternate costume was designed to look like Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4.

This troper created a DualBoss for a game that consisted of one character with water powers and one character with fire powers. They were twins and you had to find a way to turn the water one against the fire one and then use the water one's power against himself, because they were invincible to normal attacks. They were CaptainErsatz of (male!)Sailor Neptune and Vegeta, both played for laughs.

One of this troper's original characters was once accused by some YuYuHakusho fanboy of being a CaptainErsatz of Hiei, because said character happened to be... *gasp* A DEMONIC LIGHTNING BRUISER WITH A SWORD. I was not amused in the least, and to this day, even though the character has been changed dramatically, it still enrages me to think about it.

This troper has came across the thought of a intentionaly SoBadItsGood 3D flash game called ''Extreme super ultra kilo mega giga awesome zombie killing in 3D''. The main protagonist is this and said troper doesn't try to hide it. His name is Duck Nukem (based off of a typo this troper made on youtube). Three guesses on who it is based on.

This troper has an original Power Rangers fanfic where the main villains are practically clones of the Black Moon Clan from Sailor Moon. Hell, I even lampshade it when they're first shown! But the colors schemes, save for the Big Bad Rashon--an Ersatz of Prince Dimande--are completely different. But the difference is that they're not exactly Anti villains, ''very'' sadistic villains who cross the [[MoralEventHorizon Moral Event Horizon pretty quickly]] but pretty dangerous and cunning villains while giving off an EvilIsCool vibe. And they really piss off the Rangers. I even take it further by making the QuirkyMinibossSquad ersatzes of the Shitennou from Sailor Moon's firsr arc and season. And yes, that is lampshaded, too.

Radioactive Zombie - One of my {{stock character}}s is a stoic named Glenstone. Originally, he was supposed to be like Sousuke, but wound up closer to, say, the {{Terminator}} with a good heaping of Ninja Raiden.
#18893
His {{Shadowrun}} character was supposed to be a cocky, corrupt, more handsome version of Young Ocelot from [=MGS3=] that used bigger revolvers and wore combat armor. He's now more like Deadpool, if Deadpool worked exclusively for the UCAS, used revolvers, was a master of disguise, and more annoying and creepy.

One of the characters in {{DarthWiki/Infection}} is essentially Riku from BloodPlus, except with a British accent.

This freakin' troper and many of her freakin' characters and shows! Not all of them are like this, however, but when you have the mind to turn Vork into a cartoon scientist, or Scott Tracy into a PointyEared psychic HumanAlien, things tend to take a turn for the borderline copyright infringing!

@/EponymousKid is working on ''several'' projects that deal strongly in this trope. ''198X'' is pretty much completely based on every 80s cartoon and toyline, with Squadron X and Leopard (GI Joe and Cobra), FACADE and Virus (MASK and Venom), Infiltrators (Transformers; Sinistroids and Technomechs being the ersatz Decepticons and Autobots), Featherheads (Thundercats except birds of prey rather than big cats), and Subhumans (Tiger Sharks with Silverhawks elements), and Saurids (TMNT). ''Dr. Detective'' started out as a flat out pastiche of Batman before evolving into a more unique character (he's currently a much more street level crimefighter who lacks Batman's wealth and intelligence yet faces villains that typically have incredible superpowers); his villains are mainly Spider-Man villain inspired (Falcoid = Vulture, Bullhorn = Rhino, Spitting Cobra = Lizard, etc. Notice the shared animal motif), but also include the Mr. Freeze-like Aquarius and Bruce Lazer, conceived as an evil version of Buck Rogers/Dan Dare/Flash Gordon. Dr. Detective started out as part of a larger JLA-style team featuring Deep Sir (Aquaman), the Magman of Mercury (Martian Manhunter), the Silver Sword (Green Arrow), and Hurricane Runner (The Flash). Hyperlord (Superman) is unaffiliated with them, unfortunately. Finally, ''Sgt. Swagger and Combat Company'' is based on every war comic imaginable featuring TheSquad, with Sgt. Swagger in particular based on Sgt. Rock, Sgt. Fury, Lt. Heller, Captain Hugo Darcy, Lt. Savage, etc.

This troper has a penchant for making these in his youth, and has taken to retooling them to make them less obvious and more my own.
#18898
This troper used these deliberately. He was writing a story in a SharedUniverse, but one much deeper down the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVsCynicism than what had (hitherto) been normal. So he thought, Hey, how about having a cameo from one of those LighterAndSofter stories, just to drive the point home? This had to be changed to Expies when the owner of the wanted characters declined to lease them, but the end result was the same.

This troper wrote a short story about the end of the world, which is aptly titled “Armageddon”. It starts off with a concrete statue discovered on a ship. People in viewing range have to maintain eye contact. Otherwise, the statue will break their neck or rip out their carotid arteries. There’s also an epidemic of people becoming clockwork, clouds that brings people back to life, phones that suck unattended people into an unknown location and operatives that are trying to salvage the situation, led by something called the Foundation. Guess what this story is based from?

This trope is why I deleted my sci-fi work. The protagonist is TheStoic with really, REALLY powerful handgun. I realized that I was basically copying Killy from {{Blame}}. And I thought I was being original......

superfroggy: I just noticed that a character from a pet project I'm working on looks almost exactly like... Detective Gumshoe. ...Yeah. His mannerisms and personality are completely different, but his character design is nearly identical. I'm... not sure what to make of this. I never noticed it until I actually drew him, but then the similarities sort of leapt out at me...

This troper's writings are populated with YuppieCouple that are CaptainErsatz of the {{Animorphs}}, and one story had a CaptainErsatz of the {{Justice League}}.
#18903
This troper has met his own CaptainErsatz. Creepiness ensued.
#18904
For some time, This Troper had an OC in mind that was really beautiful. When This Troper started watching {{Soul Eater}}, she noticed that Tsubaki looked exactly like her OC. It was when she developed the character a bit did she realize that Aki (Said OC) is a CaptainErsatz of Tsubaki.
#18905
This troper once made a CaptainErsatz of Two-Face, asymmetric suit and all. The weird part is I'm a huge Batman fan and Two-Face is one of my favorite characters, and yet I totally did not notice these similarities until somebody else pointed them out to me.

The packaging of the ActionReplay I saw at Gamestop included obvious CaptanErsatz of various Pokemon(including Piplup, Hippopotas, and Chimchar), a Team Galactic/Magma grunt(seemed to be a slight mix of them), and ProfessorLayton.
#18907
I once created a "Major Blood", based on Commander Gore. BaldBlackLeaderGuy, similar position as the head of a well-equipped team meant to do something nigh-impossible (whether that was destroy the Schwarzwelt or to arrest {{Physical God}}s)), but came BackFromTheDead. I also threw in a hint of Jax, the ''other'' black man with the rank of "Major", in that death involved him losing his arms, so when he was revived, he had to be given new, more powerful, bionic arms.
#18908
No, but he was inspired by him.
