BadLiar
#11905
This troper has never made an excuse in his life. However, he is perfectly capable of lying his way out of a paper bag.
#11906
...I don't want to talk about it... I mean no. I'm not a bad liar.
#11907
This troper is decent with SarcasticConfession and YouNeverAsked situations, but he is horrible at telling BlatantLies.
#11908
This troper is the worst kind of bad liar: his good heart won't let him lie at all.
#11909
This troper cannot lie in person to save her life. However on the internet... Everything she says is a lie.
#11910
Everything? Even this?
#11911
PARADOX!
#11912
She is lying and has spoken the truth at least once in her life. No paradox required.
#11913
This troper WOULD be good at lying, if his mouth didn't spread out into a HUGE GOOFY GRIN every freakin' time he tries to lie. Hell, it's so bad it sometimes happens when he's telling THE TRUTH.
#11914
This used to happen to me, when I was a kid. Either it went away or it was only a problem with ''premeditated'' lies, though. And I have a similar problem with managing to make the truth sound incredibly suspicious; I have a tendency to simplify my recounting of events on the first pass and then correct myself, which makes it sound like I can't keep my story straight, and my tone will creep into 'unconvincing liar' of its own volition.
#11915
Is this troper me? This is why no one belives me when I do tell the truth, because I have the same grin as when I lie.
#11916
This troper is usually a very good liar. Lately though... let's just say I doubt anybody believes that I was so distracted today because of all movement to the right of my head.
#11917
This Troper tends to be a decent liar when playing games like Mafia, but in real life? Not so much.
#11918
Well, I don't know about you guys, but this troper certainly ''is'' a bad liar. Really, he couldn't even fool a small child. I swear.
#11919
This Troper cannot tell a lie in real life to save her life. But online she has fooled people with tricks that were played up so much that it was obvious that they were BlatantLies.
#11920
This troper cannot lie offline or online. And when he does, he acts perfectly like a bad liar.
#11921
This troper has to lie quickly. When I don't leave myself time to feel bad about lying I'm a good liar. And as this happens very, very rarely, people tend to believe me.
#11922
Sounds like me. I can BS off the top of my head just fine, but I'm much worse at delivering a lie convincingly if I prepared it in advance. (Fortunately, the latter hasn't been necessary for a while; either the topic I was planning to lie about never comes up, or I can switch into quick-lying mode. Or occasionally make use of FalseReassurance.) I don't feel ''bad'' about lying, though; it's more that I have an OCD-type compulsion to not lie, but am capable of defying it if I act before my subconscious notices.
#11923
This troper can lie to anyone about anything without my voice betraying me. Unfortunately, around my close friends I've picked up this habit of rotating my hands when I lie.
#11924
My ex-wife was a horrible liar. Her biggest problem was that she seemed to have an inability to tell the truth even when there was no reason to lie. While we were married, if she told a lie, I'd usually just go along with it, but when we got divorced, she was amazed at how easily I could detect a lie. I always took the opposite approach - tell the truth whenever possible. That way, when you really do need to lie, you've already established your credibility and are less likely to be suspected of lying.
#11925
I hate lying. I see no point in it whatsoever, and it makes me feel literally sick to lie to someone close to me.
#11926
Ditto.
#11927
This troper is an inversion. I can lie convincingly well enough. But if I'm telling the truth and being questioned if I'm lying, I can't keep a straight face at all and act in the stereotypical BadLiar fashion no matter how hard I try not to.
#11928
This troper has a hard time with lying when she is asked to by another (laughs too much. Plus the lies are unbelievabe.) But there are some things I've been able to keep a secret from my friend. I can be crying one second, and get on the phone the next, sounding totally fine. This troper can also be crying on second, and go face friends with a totally dry face five seconds later.
#11929
This troper laughs horribly every time she lies. It has reached the point where she now laughs even if she's not lying if she knows people THINK she's lying. Obviously, this leads to awkward situations.
#11930
On one notable occasion, however, this troper sucked at lying without laughing. Her mother cornered her in the car and asked 'Are you and (female friend) dating?' This troper's response? Looking straight out the window and saying 'Everything's fine, mom.'
#11931
Oh gosh, terrible liar here. I get blushy and flustered whenever anyone calls me out on a lie, so then they know for sure it was one. The cool thing, though, is that I've also started being able to act the exact same way when I tell the truth, just to bother my friends.
#11932
@/DesertDragon: I've been a horrible liar my entire life, which is surprising since my mother has raised it into an art form. However, I don't see it as being a bad thing. It's far easier and less stressful to avoid situations where I'd have to lie in the first place, or just deal with the ugly truth. This isn't to say I've never called off "sick" from work before, but I feel much worse about lying to people close to me.
#11933
My sister, when she was 5 years old, every time she lied, she would always look up and, while blinking a lot, she would say: "I didn't do anything".
#11934
Simultaneously subverted and played straight with this troper. On the one hand, he's an ADDer and Aspie, so a lot of things he finds perfectly rational explanations sound like utter bullshit to everyone else. On the other hand, he's extremely uncomfortable with lying, but when he does (oh so very rarely), he's ''incredibly'' good at it.
#11935
Not only am I a terrible liar, but I even have trouble being evasive or refusing to answer uncomfortable questions. For some reason the phrases "None of your business" or "I don't want to talk about it" rarely enter my mind.
#11936
This troper is a very good liar... except to one person, who can easily tell when he is lying.
#11937
This troper has known many people who lie almost all the time on just about any subject you can think of. It gets pretty easy to tell them apart from non-lying people after a while. The only catch is no one ever calls them out on their lies. Ever.
#11938
This Troper is a horrible liar with an obvious tell: She gets very wordy when she's lying. Like about the instance in which she most definitely did not try to use the aid of a twenty-five cent American coin to a plug when she was a year from being a teenager. And it was surely not because of a preposterous hypothesis aided by a certain braining quirk which seemed to supply her with the idea that it may help give a more clearer reception on her little alarm clock radio. Of course not! Why would anybody ever get the notion that she could even commit such an absurdly moronic deed? The truth: When I was 12, I stuck a quarter onto a plug in the light socket thinking I'd get better radio reception....ADHD in it's full glory
#11939
This troper can lie OK online but not that fast, and it's very slow IRL. I have a tendency to crack up or have my eyes go up to the right. For more cases look for the Troper Tales under PaperThinDisguise, the one about Formspring was written by my friend.
#11940
This troper is accused of being a bad liar a lot. The sad truth is, I'm letting them think that. It's harder for me to think of things I've been honest about than things I've lied about and been caught for.
#11941
Averted with this troper who is a fantastic liar. The trick is be vague and slightly honest, and only filling in the details as the person demands them.
#11942
This tropette is an incredibly horrible liar. She starts giggling like crazy whenever she tries.
